Dave Barry Response
Summary/Response Essay Women all around the world wonder why men never clean, Dave Barry
thinks that he found the perfect excuse for them this time. Men always come up with some reason to
not clean things. Dave Barry emphasizes that men are just not able to do housework because of how
their brain works. He uses the excuse that all men just don t see or feel the mess that is going on. Dave
Barry goes on throughout his article to say that men cannot detect dirt like women can. This is just
another excuse men use so they don t have to clean. All men and women are capable of cleaning, even
if they don t see the dirt. If something has not been cleaned in while, it is going to need to be cleaned,
no matter if men or women want to clean it. Men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since the beginning of time, young boys were nagged by their mothers to clean their room and
their dream was to have their own place and leave things wherever they want. If men can detect or see
the dirt on their cars they can see it on the floor when they come in with muddy shoes and just don t
want to clean it up. Men just make excuses because they would rather spend their time cleaning a car
or watching a football game instead of actually cleaning around the house. From experience my dad,
my boyfriend, and all the other male figures in my life say the same thing about cleaning a house,
What s the point if it s just going to get dirty again soon anyway . Men have higher things to do with
their life than to clean and they make it very obvious. . My cousin tells me that his mom is always
telling him to clean up his plates, clothes, bags, etc and he gets so sick of it and cannot wait until he
has his own house and the control to do whatever he wants with that stuff. Dave Barry says in his
article he doesn t see or even feel the dust and household mess in the same way Got that? We can t see

Abstract As Dr. Stephanie White prepares to cope with the a steep reduction in the budgetary
allocation to the Uptown Clinic she must carefully determine which areas to cut while striving to
maintain current levels of service. This essay will offer advice Dr. White on preparing for budget cuts.
It will also discuss the lean production philosophy and how this compares with typical production.
This essay will also describe the differences between managerial accounting and cost accounting.
There are many strategies that Dr. White could employed to adequately mitigate the negative impact

This philosophy is now generally accepted as the ideal business model of the 21st century and
replaces the mass production philosophy of the previous century. On the website
www.1000advices.com Mr. Vadim Kotelnikov, Inventor of inspirational Business e Coaching states
that the lean production philosophy is about doing more with less: less time, inventory, space, labor,
and money. Lean manufacturing , a shorthand for a commitment to eliminating waste, simplifying
procedures and speeding up production (www.1000advices.com).
At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven
key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what
customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory processes to
eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over processing by removing
any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion/movement of people and
equipment; eliminating transportation delays and unnecessary material handling and reducing
defective products and the cost to repair/replace them (www.1000advices.com).
As is obvious by now, there are clear differences between typical production process and the lean
production model. Suited for the mass production strategy of the last century, the manufacturing cycle
of the typical production process primarily engages in cost accounting whether periodic or

Criminological Theory
Criminological theory and research can underpin criminal justice policy but this is not the soul
influence as there are many other factors that can contribute to its formation. Within this essay I will
discuss the relationship between the two and consider how criminological theory has been used to
inform policy. This will be done by looking examples such as neighbourhood policing. I will then
asses how and why evidence based policy is not always successful by highlighting its limitations.
Finally, I will consider the multitude of other factors that must also be taken into deliberation when
reviewing how criminal justice policy is formed, this includes; societal and cultural pressures, policy
transfer and structure of government.

Endodontics Essay
When it comes to flashing your smile, you would often brood over the kind of teeth that you have
encircled within your mouth. Would it not be a leading concern of anybody? The level of self
confidence plus the manner of dealing with your relations publicly and professionally are utterly
affected by the way your teeth are arranged. How much more when you have decomposed or plague
ridden teeth? The more that you need to submit yourself to root canal treatment in Gurgaon!
What is Endodontics?
To simply put, endodontics is the segment of dentistry which tackles the apprehensions about the
ailments that highlight the pulp of the tooth. The pulp is sited right in the core of the tooth as well as in
the canals within the root of every tooth. The pulp encloses the blood vessels, the nerves, and the

pulp infection and pulp damage. Any cavity that rests untreated is the root cause of pulp infection. The
decay is the foundation which wears away the dentin and enamel of the tooth until such time that it
leads you to the root canal. With this, the pulp gets predisposed to bacterial septicity. Usually,
antibiotics would be taken to pacify the pain away but the truth is, the septicity that lies inside the
teeth could never be treated. As the infection gets harsh, it brings forth swelling which then lessens the
supply of blood into the tooth and that leads to the boundless agony since it rids the healing of the
pulp. Another reason that must provoke you to undergo root canal treatment is owing to the
impairment in the pulp that could not be fixed by any means. Fracture or trauma to the tooth could
result in the damage of the pulp. The same thing happens when excessive restoration or fillings have
been applied in the same tooth time and again. Another is the application of a crown and other dental

Chicago Race Riots Essay
A Look Into the Chicago Race Riots
The Civil War was fought over the race problem, to determine the place of African Americans in
America. The Union won the war and freed the slaves. However, when President Lincoln declared the
Emancipation Proclamation, a hopeful promise for freedom from oppression and slavery for African
Americans, he refrained from announcing the decades of hardship that would follow to obtaining the
new won freedom . Over the course of nearly a century, African Americans would be deprived and
face adversity to their rights. They faced something perhaps worse than slavery; plagued with the
threat of being lynched or beat for walking at the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite the addition

Many left to the North because it was a place ...where there are no lynchings (Sandburg 15), a place
where they could be safe. The black population in Chicago lived in an area known as the black belt.
The Negro Migration caused the population in the Chicago black belt to more than double from
50,000 to 125,000 making Chicago have the third or fourth largest black population next to New York,
Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington (7).
A large influx of colored people created many problems. First, there was a major problem in the
availability in housing, of which was responded to with racism. This is the root for the hatred between
the black and white communities. There wasn t enough housing in the black belt community, so
Negroes began to spill into white neighborhoods. The very existence of a colored person in a
neighborhood would lower the property values. When a house was sold to a colored person, the rent
for the house would be higher than the previous, white owner s rent. Real Estate companies believed
that it is a matter of common knowledge that house after house...whether under white or black agents,
comes to the Negro at an increased rental (Sandburg 46). They sold housing despite the fact that the
Negro in Chicago, paid a lower wage than the white workman (47), and that black people would have

Robert Bannister Neo Darwinism
From another perspective, Robert Bannister, author of Neo darwinism and the Crisis of the 1890s,
observes that social Darwinism described a variety of evils from its first appearance in Europe around
1880 to the time it found its way into American thought twenty years later. For example, while some
early commentators identified social Darwinism as brutal individualism similar to that advocated by
Herbert Spencer, others insisted that it provided a new rationale for socialism and the class struggle or
an explanation for the rising tide of imperialism and militarism in the late 19th century. Such
individualism can be found in the laisse faire system of economics first utilized by American
businessmen. American businessmen found in darwinistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pantaleoni is credited with being the first to apply marginalist analysis to public finance. He was also
the author of a famous textbook, the first to systematize marginalist thought and his paper on
economic dynamics was discussed in a session of the American Economic Association s annual
conference, contributing to the spread of social darwinistic economics overseas. Nitti, in turn,
conditioned Italian economic culture and found important reviews. These two important Italian
scholars, whose impact on the discipline in Italy was enormous, were on opposite sides with regard to
economic methodology, as well as on the issue of government intervention in the economy. However,
they both found their divergent inspiration in Spencer. To note just one, Pantaleoni uses biology to
validate the premise of marginalism: the sensations of pleasure he writes, citing Spencer are such only
insofar as they are appropriate to the preservation of life . This concept is reiterated in his well known
Pure Economics, through the words of Spencer himself: pleasure giving acts are life sustaining acts.
Pantaleoni verses many of Spencer s words, which in turn contributed to success among economists.
Soon after, Pantaleoni abandons static analysis, and takes to exploring beyond the confines of
economics as a discipline: on the one

Define Mistaken Behavior
Assignment 1. Define mistaken behavior and misbehavior . Compare and contrast the two, and explain
the value in having an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and how can help
teachers guide young children?
Mistaken Behaviors
Mistaking behavior is a comprehensive guidance that professional teachers are developing to assist
children through difficult situations. This guidance approach recognizes that children are in a process
of development where they are learning skills to live in a democratic life, during this process children
has many mistakes that are reflected at their behavior. The importance of this this concept is that
teachers can understand that children can make mistakes, and they can learn from them. Instead,
teachers and caregivers are the principal guidance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe they feel hungry, sick or tired. They have lack knowledge or experience. They feel stressed
(something wrong or new is happening at house).
Misbehavior
This discipline concept suggests that the children are doing intentional mistakes and teachers must
discipline and punish to the child. At this wrong guidance teachers label children who misbehave
calling names such as naughty bad mean rowdy , and also punish the child. Teachers who do this
practice think that when the child get shame they will be behave good. These negative labels can
affect with bad consequences to their behavior. The child will believe that they are the wrong label
given.
As Ginott wrote in Teacher and Child (1972), Firmness without harshness is essential in guidance. The
adult who intervenes in the face of mistaken behavior often must be firm, but must be firm and
friendly not firm and harsh . The goal is to help children learn positive social skills from their
mistakes; punish discipline cannot achieve this.

At the age of 6 years old, a child would most likely experienced the school system which would
include pre school and kindergarten. There are many physical, cognitive and social changes that are
happening in middle childhood development. This paper will examine what these changes affect the
child s ability to function in society. This analysis will focus on the normal course of development in
middle childhood as it applies to the theorist Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Stages and then give
examples of what may happen if the developments are not carried out.

Studies show that childhood injuries and deaths occur right in their home (Morrongiello, Corbett,
McCourt, Johnston, 2006). In the United States, it is estimated that 1 in 4 children will experience an
injury that will need medical attention (Morrongiello, Corbett, McCourt, Johnston, 2006). Erikson s
psychosocial theory is an excellent way to better understand why a child will get injured by providing
a different perspective (Ginsburg, 1992). This will lead to more extensive research on childhood
injuries (Ginsburg, 1992).
Social skills
If the child is unable to play with others, participate in school activities and demonstrate proper social
behavior. The parents or the teacher should intervene to ask the child why they are not participating.
Failure to participate in these developmental activities could be a sign of low self esteem, depression,
abuse and being bullied by others.
The child develops a sense of pride and competence in new skills they learn (Huffman, Younger,
Vanston, 2010). For example, this accomplished by being confident that they score a goal when they
play soccer, spelling a word correctly or putting shape blocks in the correct place. A sense of pride
may be felt when they contribute to society (Huffman, Younger, Vanston, 2010). Opening a door for
others, fundraising by selling chocolate bars, volunteering in the community are some examples of
how the child can feel this pride. The

The historical utilization and historical data for facility services is the same, regardless of the level of
patient s level of co payment. The average fees are as follows:
Inpatient Acute Care Services Average daily free for service charge $1,200.00
Surgical Procedures per case $1,300.00
Skilled Nursing $430.00
Mental Care Average Daily Cost $540.00
Emergency Room Care per visit $190.00
The following services were calculated by dividing the cases, days, and/or the visits per year by 1,000.
Service Calculation Result
Inpatient Acute Care 400/1,000 0.4
Skilled Nursing Facility Care 25.2/1,000 0.0252
Inpatient Mental Care 64.4/1,000 0.0644

Emergency Room Care 132/1,000 0.132
Next, in order to attempt to find the base PMPM cost, the utilization data is multiplied historical cost.

Lifelong Health Benefits of Mandatory Genetic Screenings
Since their development and introduction to the field of medicine more than a century ago, genetic
screenings have become incorporated in many fields of healthcare, including reproductive health and
cancer prevention. Genetic screening is a method of identifying genetic disorders through the study of
an individual s DNA. They can be used to determine predisposition for various disorders such as
Alzheimer s, breast cancer, and sickle cell anemia. Genetic screenings inform individuals about their
state of health and can help them make efficient choices in regard to disease treatments and
prevention; however they have not gone without controversy. Many feel that such screenings can

Despite their benefits for individual and public health, genetic screenings can lead to social stigma
against those with genetic disorders. Since the introduction of mass genetic tests, there has been a
legal debate about whether or not to release information about an individual s screening results. On
one side of the debate are those who argue that the data from genetic screenings can be used to benefit
public health through the development and improvement of treatments and public health policy
(Hodge, 2004). However, a prominent opposing side to this debate has focused on the potential for
social and even ethnic quarantine if the results of screenings are made public (Atkin, 2003). Though
there is a consensus that genetic screening is beneficial in preventing and treating diseases and poor
health, many worry that releasing their results can lead to social stigma for individuals of certain
minorities simply because of their greater susceptibility to certain health problems (Natowicz and
Alper, 1991). Ethnic discrimination has indeed proved to be a legitimate issue in regards to genetic
screenings; for example, in the 1990s several states did not allow African American individuals to wed
until they proved that they did not have sickle cell anemia. Opponents of publicly mandated genetic
screenings fear discrimination against some ethnicities due to their

The Rational And Self Interested Agent Used As A Model Of...
Meet Homo economicus, the perfectly rational and self interested agent used as a model of human
behaviour in neoclassical economics. Lacking the emotion and cognitive biases that typically cloud
optimal decision making, Homo economicus is able to consistently pursue self interest without any
regard for the welfare of others. The troubling observation here is that economists have been
modelling human behaviour in a manner effectively consistent with psychopathy. The classic, albeit
Hollywood inspired psychopath intelligent, capable of self control, driven to succeed and dominate
others is disturbingly similar to our description of Homo economicus. Indeed, using a variety of
anonymous, one shot cooperation games, Yamagishi et al. (2014) ... Show more content on

This is problematic, and invites the following questions: 1) How to justify modeling economic
outcomes in a manner not accurately reflecting most real life decision making, and 2) How to arrive at
an economic, or even evolutionary explanation for our (nearly) global violations in utility
maximization. I address these points in brief below.
Economists have long known people aren t the tidy, rational, utility maximizing non cooperators that
they re modeled as in neoclassical economics. For this reason, the early behavioral economic literature
was concerned with modifying existing models to better reflect psychological factors (e.g. Kahneman
Tversky, 1979). Most people, for example, do not follow Bayesian statistics in situations under risk,
and so prospect theory serves as a useful addition when modelling loss aversion. Thus the assumptions
underlying Homo economicus can be interpreted as a pragmatic choice that allows economists to
make simplifying approximations appropriate for the problem under review. This notion, that
economists are conscious of the empirical limitations of their models, suggests that Homo economicus
can and should serve only as a preliminary step towards more sophisticated representations of real life
decision making. If it s understood that the assumptions underlying the models are at best useful
approximations, then perhaps the issue is with the breadth of application rather than the models
themselves.
Though why is it that we don t

Essay on Dred Scott
In this position paper I will explain the trials that Dred Scott
had to go through in his life in his attempts for justice to be served.
Dred Scott was born in 1799, and was an illiterate slave. His parents
were slaves and so he was born the property of the Peter Blow
family. In 1804 The United States took possesion of Missouri and
after many debates on whether or not it would be a slavery state, a
resolution known as the Missouri Compromise came along. This
made a balance in the number of free and slave states, the problem
was that Missouri was located right in the middle of what was the
freedom and slavery.

In these nine years
he never made an attempt to get his freedom and it is not known
why he waited until this specific time, there are only three
possibilities that are considered though. One possibility is that he
was tired of being hired out. Another possibility is that he was
possibly on the verge of getting sold to another owner. The last
possible reason was that Scott may have tried to pay for his
freedom, but was refused of it. It is known that the suit was not
filed for political reasons.
The Scotts case took place in the St. Louis Circuit Court and in
1847 the jury ruled in Mrs. Emerson favor and dismissed the case.
The Scotts were allowed to refile their suit. In 1850, the Scotts got
the outcome they deserved, as the jury believed that it was right for
them to be free. Irene Emerson appealed the decision in 1852 and
the State Supreme Court overruled the Circuit Court decision. Scott
then filed a suit in the U.S. Federal Court in St. Louis against John
Sanford who had taken responsibility for John Emerson s estate and
was also Irene Emerson s brother. The decision in this case again
went against Scott and he then tried one more appeal in 1856. In
the case of Scott v. Sanford the court stated that he should remain a
slave being that he was nothing but property. The Supreme Court
stated that A black man had no rights which a white man had to

My current role as a child welfare practitioner is third reason why I am applying for the Victoria s

sometimes create a dominate relationship to a family with child protection concerns. Thus, I believe
that the university s MSW educational mission combined with their scholarly mission to sharing and
creating knowledge from a critical view could help me to improve and integrate more anti oppressive
practices as a parent child capacity building practitioner.
Over my period of volunteer experience and professional work, I have taken special interests in
children and families because conflicts in the home have steadily increased over the years. My area of
interest I will critically explore therefore during my graduate education is, Aboriginal Parents and

Adversarial vs. Inquisitorial Justice Systems
The objective of an adversarial system and an inquisitorial system is similar, but the path to justice is
very different. The terms adversarial and inquisitorial are used to describe types of justice systems in
which represent common law and civil law respectively. The adversarial system is a legal system
where two parties positions are represented before an unbiased judge or a jury who attempt to
determine the truth behind the case. In an inquisitorial system, a judge contributes to the preparation
of evidence along with how the different parties are to present their case at the trial. The judge plays
the role of finding the truth and all the evidence that either proves the innocence or guilt of the
accused. The adversarial system is clearly the more impartial and accurate way to determine the truth
within a case.
The adversarial system has many great aspects which makes it the desirable system. In an adversarial
system, the police and defence are responsible for gathering evidence, and an evaluation of that
evidence is done by an unbiased judge. Judges play a role like a referee at a sporting event and the
prosecutor and defence counsel are the athletes. They watch the game and blow the whistle when they
see unfair gameplay. Canada and the United States have an adversarial justice system. This depicts
how first world countries use an adversarial system over an inquisitorial system because they
recognize that it is superior in that it is a fairer justice system. In an

Critical Essay on, The Fall of the House of Usher.
He approached the house wearily, noting with growing horror its advanced, albeit subtle, state of
decay; however the labyrinth of phantasm that composed its interior belied the crumbling edifice...
Poe s gothic tale has inspired generations of readers with his unique style of rich detail and sheer
horror. In, The Fall of the House of Usher one finds the house mysteriously connected with its
inhabitants. As they slowly fall into a state of decay, both mental and physical, so also does its
structure weaken, eventually collapsing into the tarn in which it was standing, as its tenants fall prey to
the strain of body and mind. Without them, the house cannot stand.

He spends his days painting the most bizarre pictures, like that of a deep tunnel lit from within by
invisible sources of colored light; playing pieces he composes extemporaneously on his guitar, then
reciting to these melodies incoherent lyrics revealing a mind in torment. As his sister s condition
worsens and finally is ended by her death, he becomes almost maniacal in his pursuit of the fantastic.
Both the narrator and Roderick are horrified by her appearance of life, even triumphing over her
disease, and wonder as they lock her in an old keep for a fortnight. Poe does not fail to inspire within
the reader a sense of awe in her death, nor does he spare the lurid details of the terror lurking within
this burial scene of the lady Madeline. And so it is the beginning of the end.
Soon Roderick takes to pacing all about the dark house, his mental condition deteriorating no less
rapidly than his physical; and even that has nearly reached its last stages of deterioration. The pallor of
his countenance had assumed, if possible, a more ghastly hue but the luminousness of his eye had
utterly gone out. Gazing upon vacancies for hours, speaking in tremulous quavering tones it appears to
the narrator as if he is concealing something which weighs so heavily on his mind that he is slowly
going mad. Then one stormy, sleepless night, the narrator relates how the seemingly needless

Primary Raynaud s Case Study
Early presenting signs and symptoms of both, Primary Raynaud s (PR) and Secondary Raynaud s
include complaints of or evidence of sudden intermittent episodes of skin color changes, pain, feeling
of coldness, and pins and needles sensation in the affected areas. When an episode or an attack occurs,
the area first becomes white, as the blood flow decreases; a blue color follows, due to decreased
oxygen delivery to the tissues; and lastly, the area becomes red when the blood flow returns. Attacks
can last minutes to hours, and can be initiated by temperature change or stress. The intermittent attacks
of PR generally do not result in tissue injury, and is not associated with an underlying disease process.
The diagnosis usually occurs between the ages of 15 30. Attacks with Secondary Raynaud s are
triggered by cold exposure and stress as well, can last longer and result in damage to the tissues,
leading to ulcers, gangrene, and loss of the digit(s). Secondary Raynaud s is associated with an

persuades her son Bailey to make a detour and let the family see an old house off road. When Bailey
says no, she again uses her grandchildren by telling them lies about the secret panel in the house
where the old family that used to stay in that house hid their silver. The grandmother knows she
ignites the children s imagination and senses winning this time. This sends the children to a frantic
tantrum and ultimately changes Bailey s mind. The detour causes them an accident and their encounter
with The Misfit. In her encounter with The Misfit, still high with power over her ability to changer her
son s mind, she does the same tactic to The Misfit, and hopes not to get killed by persuading The

Learning To Die In The Anthropocene Book Summary
Title Goes Here. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene by Roy Scranton helps humanity learn to
survive in the carbon emission created world know as the Anthropocene. Helpful can be defined as
offering assistance, which this book does by spreading awareness about global warming, helping the
reader learn how to die in the Anthropocene and warning of the lack of action. Learning to Die in the
Anthropocene is a helpful book. This book is helpful because it assists in spreading awareness about
global warming. Scranton takes a scientific approach to global warming, presenting what will happen,
and why, we as the human species, are unlikely to solve it. Scranton writes, climatologists now predict

. . A future of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer will mean the arctic ocean will be ice free in the
summer . . . warming of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit will eventually lead to sea levels 90 to 200 feet
higher. (35 36) Scranton helps the reader understand how drastic a change of seven degrees in global
temperature is by explaining how seven degrees colder has affected the planet and how seven degrees
warmer will affect the planet. The book is also helpful because it assists with spreading awareness that
we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus preventing us from wasting more
time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are common
propositions as solutions. However, they have their own problems. Renewable energy sources have
problems that revolve around how they are not cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics
question whether renewable energy will ever be a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that
its cost to energy ratios are simply too high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up
and maintain and their energy is not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the
problem of cost with renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a
new and expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly
enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice, CCS is
unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that might make a
difference. This book is helpful because it spreads awareness of what global warming can cause and
why we are unlikely to solve it. However, Scranton does provide the reader with a

Gangs in Prison Essay

and similarities in these gangs.

unite the black prisoners and get rid of a violent uprising. This uprising was believed to be from a
racist prison administration that was white. The gang attracted thousands black American offenders,
and was listed for a number of staff assaults and the murder of Marin County judge in 1970. Its
territory is in California and some selected areas in the United States. It also has a paramilitary kind of
structure. It has around 50,000 members. If one wants to join the gang, one has to be black and must
be nominated by an existing member. They have a symbol of a dragon that is attacking a gun tower of
a prison. This gang is still growing in most of the American prisons with some of its members outside
the confinement.

The Importance Of Poetry In Literature
Danish Faruqi
Sometimes you come to hate things not because of what they are, but because of what meant to you.
They haven t done anything particularly done anything to you directly. But them being in your
presence doesn t help. I don t hate a lot of things, and in literature, that list is even smaller. Through
my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and its effects.
Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be very
interesting.
For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that an
inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and the
mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to know
about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We were
reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the teacher was
startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. And thus, the race to compete was
on.
Since the debate talks were on Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, it required us to understand
her style of writing Stream of Consciousness. From there on, our part was to understand a book which
has multiple meanings and multiple perspectives. To make things easier, our teacher chose to use
confessional poetry as a method to uplift only

  • 2. Dave Barry Response Summary/Response Essay Women all around the world wonder why men never clean, Dave Barry thinks that he found the perfect excuse for them this time. Men always come up with some reason to not clean things. Dave Barry emphasizes that men are just not able to do housework because of how their brain works. He uses the excuse that all men just don t see or feel the mess that is going on. Dave Barry goes on throughout his article to say that men cannot detect dirt like women can. This is just another excuse men use so they don t have to clean. All men and women are capable of cleaning, even if they don t see the dirt. If something has not been cleaned in while, it is going to need to be cleaned, no matter if men or women want to clean it. Men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since the beginning of time, young boys were nagged by their mothers to clean their room and their dream was to have their own place and leave things wherever they want. If men can detect or see the dirt on their cars they can see it on the floor when they come in with muddy shoes and just don t want to clean it up. Men just make excuses because they would rather spend their time cleaning a car or watching a football game instead of actually cleaning around the house. From experience my dad, my boyfriend, and all the other male figures in my life say the same thing about cleaning a house, What s the point if it s just going to get dirty again soon anyway . Men have higher things to do with their life than to clean and they make it very obvious. . My cousin tells me that his mom is always telling him to clean up his plates, clothes, bags, etc and he gets so sick of it and cannot wait until he has his own house and the control to do whatever he wants with that stuff. Cost Accounting and the Lean Production Philosophy Cost accounting and the lean production philosophy By Tyrone Williams AIU Online September1, 2012 Abstract As Dr. Stephanie White prepares to cope with the a steep reduction in the budgetary allocation to the Uptown Clinic she must carefully determine which areas to cut while striving to maintain current levels of service. This essay will offer advice Dr. White on preparing for budget cuts. It will also discuss the lean production philosophy and how this compares with typical production. On the website www.1000advices.com Mr. Vadim Kotelnikov, Inventor of inspirational Business e Coaching states that the lean production philosophy is about doing more with less: less time, inventory, space, labor, and money. Lean manufacturing , a shorthand for a commitment to eliminating waste, simplifying procedures and speeding up production (www.1000advices.com). At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory processes to eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over processing by removing any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion/movement of people and equipment; eliminating transportation delays and unnecessary material handling and reducing defective products and the cost to repair/replace them (www.1000advices.com). Suited for the mass production strategy of the last century, the manufacturing cycle of the typical production process primarily engages in cost accounting whether periodic or ... Criminological Theory Criminological theory and research can underpin criminal justice policy but this is not the soul influence as there are many other factors that can contribute to its formation. Within this essay I will discuss the relationship between the two and consider how criminological theory has been used to inform policy. The Union won the war and freed the slaves. Over the course of nearly a century, African Americans would be deprived and face adversity to their rights. The Negro Migration caused the population in the Chicago black belt to more than double from 50,000 to 125,000 making Chicago have the third or fourth largest black population next to New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington (7). A large influx of colored people created many problems. First, there was a major problem in the availability in housing, of which was responded to with racism. This is the root for the hatred between the black and white communities. There wasn t enough housing in the black belt community, so Negroes began to spill into white neighborhoods. The very existence of a colored person in a neighborhood would lower the property values. When a house was sold to a colored person, the rent for the house would be higher than the previous, white owner s rent. Real Estate companies believed that it is a matter of common knowledge that house after house...whether under white or black agents, comes to the Negro at an increased rental (Sandburg 46). • 9. Robert Bannister Neo Darwinism From another perspective, Robert Bannister, author of Neo darwinism and the Crisis of the 1890s, observes that social Darwinism described a variety of evils from its first appearance in Europe around 1880 to the time it found its way into American thought twenty years later. For example, while some early commentators identified social Darwinism as brutal individualism similar to that advocated by Herbert Spencer, others insisted that it provided a new rationale for socialism and the class struggle or an explanation for the rising tide of imperialism and militarism in the late 19th century. Such individualism can be found in the laisse faire system of economics first utilized by American businessmen. American businessmen found in darwinistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nitti, in turn, conditioned Italian economic culture and found important reviews. These two important Italian scholars, whose impact on the discipline in Italy was enormous, were on opposite sides with regard to economic methodology, as well as on the issue of government intervention in the economy. However, they both found their divergent inspiration in Spencer. To note just one, Pantaleoni uses biology to validate the premise of marginalism: the sensations of pleasure he writes, citing Spencer are such only insofar as they are appropriate to the preservation of life . This concept is reiterated in his well known Pure Economics, through the words of Spencer himself: pleasure giving acts are life sustaining acts. Erikson s psychosocial theory is an excellent way to better understand why a child will get injured by providing a different perspective (Ginsburg, 1992). This will lead to more extensive research on childhood injuries (Ginsburg, 1992). Social skills If the child is unable to play with others, participate in school activities and demonstrate proper social behavior. The parents or the teacher should intervene to ask the child why they are not participating. Failure to participate in these developmental activities could be a sign of low self esteem, depression, abuse and being bullied by others. The child develops a sense of pride and competence in new skills they learn (Huffman, Younger, Vanston, 2010). For example, this accomplished by being confident that they score a goal when they play soccer, spelling a word correctly or putting shape blocks in the correct place. Despite their benefits for individual and public health, genetic screenings can lead to social stigma against those with genetic disorders. Since the introduction of mass genetic tests, there has been a legal debate about whether or not to release information about an individual s screening results. On one side of the debate are those who argue that the data from genetic screenings can be used to benefit public health through the development and improvement of treatments and public health policy (Hodge, 2004). However, a prominent opposing side to this debate has focused on the potential for social and even ethnic quarantine if the results of screenings are made public (Atkin, 2003). Though there is a consensus that genetic screening is beneficial in preventing and treating diseases and poor health, many worry that releasing their results can lead to social stigma for individuals of certain minorities simply because of their greater susceptibility to certain health problems (Natowicz and Alper, 1991). Ethnic discrimination has indeed proved to be a legitimate issue in regards to genetic screenings; for example, in the 1990s several states did not allow African American individuals to wed until they proved that they did not have sickle cell anemia. • 15. The Rational And Self Interested Agent Used As A Model Of... Meet Homo economicus, the perfectly rational and self interested agent used as a model of human behaviour in neoclassical economics. Lacking the emotion and cognitive biases that typically cloud optimal decision making, Homo economicus is able to consistently pursue self interest without any regard for the welfare of others. The troubling observation here is that economists have been modelling human behaviour in a manner effectively consistent with psychopathy. The classic, albeit Hollywood inspired psychopath intelligent, capable of self control, driven to succeed and dominate others is disturbingly similar to our description of Homo economicus. Indeed, using a variety of anonymous, one shot cooperation games, Yamagishi et al. (2014) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is problematic, and invites the following questions: 1) How to justify modeling economic outcomes in a manner not accurately reflecting most real life decision making, and 2) How to arrive at an economic, or even evolutionary explanation for our (nearly) global violations in utility maximization. I address these points in brief below. Economists have long known people aren t the tidy, rational, utility maximizing non cooperators that they re modeled as in neoclassical economics. For this reason, the early behavioral economic literature was concerned with modifying existing models to better reflect psychological factors (e.g. Kahneman Tversky, 1979). Most people, for example, do not follow Bayesian statistics in situations under risk, and so prospect theory serves as a useful addition when modelling loss aversion. Thus the assumptions underlying Homo economicus can be interpreted as a pragmatic choice that allows economists to make simplifying approximations appropriate for the problem under review. This notion, that economists are conscious of the empirical limitations of their models, suggests that Homo economicus can and should serve only as a preliminary step towards more sophisticated representations of real life decision making. If it s understood that the assumptions underlying the models are at best useful approximations, then perhaps the issue is with the breadth of application rather than the models themselves. • 17. Essay on Dred Scott In this position paper I will explain the trials that Dred Scott had to go through in his life in his attempts for justice to be served. Dred Scott was born in 1799, and was an illiterate slave. His parents were slaves and so he was born the property of the Peter Blow family. In 1804 The United States took possesion of Missouri and after many debates on whether or not it would be a slavery state, a resolution known as the Missouri Compromise came along. This made a balance in the number of free and slave states, the problem was that Missouri was located right in the middle of what was the freedom and slavery. In 1830, the Blow family moved to St. Louis and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these nine years he never made an attempt to get his freedom and it is not known why he waited until this specific time, there are only three possibilities that are considered though. One possibility is that he was tired of being hired out. Another possibility is that he was possibly on the verge of getting sold to another owner. The last possible reason was that Scott may have tried to pay for his freedom, but was refused of it. It is known that the suit was not filed for political reasons.
  • 18. The Scotts case took place in the St. Louis Circuit Court and in 1847 the jury ruled in Mrs. Emerson favor and dismissed the case. The Scotts were allowed to refile their suit. In 1850, the Scotts got the outcome they deserved, as the jury believed that it was right for them to be free. Irene Emerson appealed the decision in 1852 and the State Supreme Court overruled the Circuit Court decision. Scott then filed a suit in the U.S. Federal Court in St. Louis against John Sanford who had taken responsibility for John Emerson s estate and was also Irene Emerson s brother. The decision in this case again went against Scott and he then tried one more appeal in 1856. In the case of Scott v. Sanford the court stated that he should remain a slave being that he was nothing but property. The Supreme Court stated that A black man had no rights which a white man had to respect. The ... • 22. Adversarial vs. Inquisitorial Justice Systems The objective of an adversarial system and an inquisitorial system is similar, but the path to justice is very different. The terms adversarial and inquisitorial are used to describe types of justice systems in which represent common law and civil law respectively. The adversarial system is a legal system where two parties positions are represented before an unbiased judge or a jury who attempt to determine the truth behind the case. In an inquisitorial system, a judge contributes to the preparation of evidence along with how the different parties are to present their case at the trial. The judge plays the role of finding the truth and all the evidence that either proves the innocence or guilt of the accused. The adversarial system is clearly the more impartial and accurate way to determine the truth within a case. The adversarial system has many great aspects which makes it the desirable system. In an adversarial system, the police and defence are responsible for gathering evidence, and an evaluation of that evidence is done by an unbiased judge. Judges play a role like a referee at a sporting event and the prosecutor and defence counsel are the athletes. They watch the game and blow the whistle when they see unfair gameplay. Canada and the United States have an adversarial justice system. This depicts how first world countries use an adversarial system over an inquisitorial system because they recognize that it is superior in that it is a fairer justice system. In an ... The book is also helpful because it assists with spreading awareness that we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus preventing us from wasting more time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are common propositions as solutions. However, they have their own problems. Renewable energy sources have problems that revolve around how they are not cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics question whether renewable energy will ever be a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that its cost to energy ratios are simply too high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up and maintain and their energy is not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the problem of cost with renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a new and expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice, CCS is unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that might make a difference. Through my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and its effects. Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be very interesting. For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that an inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and the mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to know about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We were reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the teacher was startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. And thus, the race to compete was on. Since the debate talks were on Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, it required us to understand her style of writing Stream of Consciousness.
