Symbolism in the poem the Walrus and the Carpenter
Lewis Carroll s The Walrus and the Carpenter could possibly be just a nonsensical rhyme meant
purely for entertainment value. The fact that this is a nonsense poem inside a nonsense story makes it
all the more difficult to decipher a deeper meaning. Like the author, who had a darker side to him, so
too might his work. Carroll made this statement in a letter to an American friend,I m very much afraid
I didn t mean anything but nonsense. Still, you know, words mean more than we mean to express
when we use them; so a whole book ought to mean a great deal more than the writer means. So,
whatever good meanings are in the book, I m glad to accept as the meaning of the book. (Shaw)This
passage almost defines the relationship between the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through his wise years and possible tricks in the past he knows enough not to budge from the mud.
The eldest Oyster looked at him,?But never a word he said:?The eldest Oyster winked his eye,?And
shook his heavy head ?Meaning to say he did not choose? To leave the oyster bed. (Carroll 37 42 qtd.
in Shaw)The youthful oysters, who have not yet dealt with such persons, agree to venture out on a
jaunt. The trip down the beach symbolizes the blind way the common man will follow the politician to
his eminent demise. The oysters gather and more and more follow the two leaders down the length of
the beach. The Walrus and the Carpenter lead the oysters a great distance until the oysters are
exhausted from the journey. Stopping on a rock that is conveniently low, the Walrus gathers up his
followers, who stand in neat rows close by, and begins a speech with the most remembered portion of
Carroll s poem. The time has come, the Walrus said,? To talk of many things:?Of shoes and ships and
sealing wax ?Of cabbages and kings ?And why the sea is boiling hot ?And whether pigs have wings.
(Carroll 61 66 qtd. in Shaw)The Walrus s speech is a remark on politicians gathering listeners and
mesmerizing them into thinking that everything they say is pertinent to them when really it is all
nonsense (De Rooy). Oysters do not care about shoes, they do not even have feet, which Carroll points
out in a previous line. Before the walk, the oysters did make sure that

Comparing Rowe s Argument Of God And Evil
God is Evil
In this paper, I will carefully reconstruct Rowe s argument by: identifying the premises and
conclusion, testing the validity and soundness according to Rowe s argumentation, determining what
the best objection is, and finally discerning whether the opposition is truly the best counterargument.
Rowe s argument originates from the argument of evil, which is, if there is an omniscient being, who
is in fact, then why does this being allow meaningless suffering to exist ? Therefore, there is no God
because gratuitous suffering does exist. In this argument, Rowe finds the definition for God and Evil
within this argument. In Rowe s case, God means a wholly, good omniscient being, and Evil
means(well in God s case) the action of not doing anything when animal or people are in need of such
an awesome being. Rowe s argument is pretty much the same as the argument of evil, except he
applied a few conditions, which is what he summarized from the evil argument himself . The
conditons: If there is some greater good, it is only obtainable if God permits it. Or, there is a greater
good, that God permits either, or some evil equally bad or worse. Finally, gratititous suffering is
preventable only if omniscient God permits some evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since, this was not properly address this is the current best objection to Rowe s argument. The
question remain unanswered by his argument: If we do have free will, is that the reason that God
cannot stop evil ? However, this is not an adepuate response to Rowe s argument, the best response is
simply that God is evil. Rowe dives into himself in his second condition: ...or some evil equally bad or
worse.. . The best counterargument: Since there is suffering in this world that an which a perfect being
could have stopped, and it was not stopped, therefore this perfect godly being is

Socioeconomic Status And Quality Of Education
In an ideal world, socioeconomic status would not affect the quality of education one would receive.
Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder. Durkheim
(1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities would be
relatively equal. Even with equal education levels, there would still exist some inequality in the form
of legitimate inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would level the playing
field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a society where money talks
and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational background. Research has shown
that a child from a high income family will have a better life chance and that a child from a low
income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my paper, I will argue that there is a
correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education in that the higher socioeconomic
status a person has, the better education opportunities they will be able to obtain.
Statistically data from Piedmont, CA and East Oakland, CA demonstrates the idea that educational
quality and opportunities is closely related to socioeconomic status. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy city
surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area. To clarify, the median household income of Piedmont
is $207,222 while East Oakland s median household income is $56,944 (US Census 2013). There is an

Graduation Speech
When my family arrived in the United States as immigrants in December of 2000, we were foreigners
in a strange place. We did not know any English so my siblings and I were placed in a school that had
an English as a Second Language program specifically designed for immigrant students. I remember
being pulled out of my normal classroom regularly to work with teachers and other students on
activities that were designed to teach me English. The memory that stands out to me the most when
thinking of those classes are the teachers who patiently worked with me sounding out words in books
or writing sentences. The teachers made me excited about learning even when I was pulled out of my
regular class at times when we were watching a movie or playing games. One day we were reading
out loud in class and I nervously raised my hand to volunteer to read. I began reading the sentence in
my small timid voice and as I continued reading I heard the voice of a girl who was comfortable and
assured in the words she was speaking. There were no unsure pauses or nervous stutters in my reading
and I remember feeling a sense of triumph that I could read so clearly. The separate time I received
with these teachers played a large role in my success as a student. I was able to form a comfortable
relationship that allowed me to be more engaged in the class and willing to learn without fear.
Although I was disadvantaged because of

How The Civil War Became A War To Free The Slaves
When President Lincoln first called for troops to put down the confederate rebellion, he made no
connection between this action and an attempt to end slavery. In fact, he explicitly stated the utmost
care will be observed to avoid any devastation, any destruction of, or interference with, property... At
this point, slavery was not yet integral to the struggle, it was much more important for the Union to air
on the side of political prudence and avoid angering loyal boarder states. However, despite this lack of
political dialogue, many abolitionists, slaves, and free blacks felt the war to preserve the union could
also be a war to end slavery. In the end, they were right, as military need overwhelmed potential
political dangers, slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these misgivings, the Union policy of returning slaves who had not been employed by the
Confederacy continued as the army moved through the boarder states. When they began to move
deeper south, however, this policy became much more difficult to enforce. General Ambrose E.
Burnside found this to be true after invading coastal North Carolina and finding virtually no loyal
slaveholders but many slaves who seemed to be wild with excitement and delight. This, combined
with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led
Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their
owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation
efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David
Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly
overruled by President Lincoln. However, while Lincoln clearly stuck down General Hunter s
proclamation, he also offered aid to the boarder states so they may adopt a gradual abolishment of
slavery. Despite this set back, Hunter continued to work for the emancipation of slaves, and went so
far as to enlist ex slaves as soldiers without any authorization to do so. Although his actions may have

Gender Bias On The Classroom
Gender Bias In The Classroom Gender roles are widely accepted societal expectations about how
males and females should behave (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). Gender roles create a difference in the way
that masculine and feminine behaviors are accepted among society. Gender roles are often depicted as
just a part of who a person is and help better define the difference between male and female. When
society begins to use these gender roles as norms we often see those who don t fit into the correct role
become ostracized by society. When these gender roles become rigid they can become gender
stereotypes. These stereotypes are fixed and oversimplified beliefs about the way in which men and
women ought to behave (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). One of the most common gender stereotypes is that
men are the breadwinners and women are the homemakers. These stereotypes also carry into emotions
as well, women being more likely to feel sadness, fear and sympathy, while men are more likely to
feel anger and pride. Another area where gender stereotypes can be observed is in the work place with
women taking jobs such as nursing and teaching, and men holding jobs in fields like medicine and
law. (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). There are many physical, cognitive, personality, and behavioral
differences between genders. Physically men and women have different primary and secondary sex
characteristics. The primary sex characteristics are the organs of the reproductive system where
women have ovaries and men

Racism And Hate Crimes
In the current world that we Americans live in, there is an issue with different races being oppressed,
and as those races fight to get their rights, white people don t like not being in the spotlight. White
people also like to claim that We can be racially oppressed but in reality, they can t.
I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men because racism and sexism
describe structures of privilege based on race and gender and therefore women of color and minority
genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system. Bahar Mustafa

harm against men or thin bodies. Throughout American history, women have been similarly subjected
to national laws and systems created to oppress them, such as the fact that until the 19th century, a
woman did not exist as a separate entity from her father, brother or husband, and that until the 1920s,
women were denied the right to vote, to get a divorce and own property. From this came a deeply
embedded system of systemic sexism that still exists today, which includes things like

Buddhism During The Heian Period
Buddhism During the Heian period (745 1185AD) Buddhism spread throughout Japan and thrived in
the imperial court in Heiankyo (Kyoto). There were two sects of Buddhism that were most popular
during this time, one was Tendai and the other was Shingon. Both of these sects of Buddhism came
from China and were brought over to Japan by two different people. Saicho or Dengyo Daishi brought
over Tendai sect (767 822) and Kukai or Kobo Daishi brought over Shingon sect (774 835) known as
Esoteric Buddhism. Tendai sect beliefs were also of Esoteric Buddhism, but Saicho teachings were
based on Chih I form inspired by the Lotus Sutra, the practice of Chines Ch an, the commandments of
the Mahayant, and part of the esoteric teaching of the True Word (History of Buddhism). Due to both
Saicho and Kukai being introduced to Esoteric Buddhism, some might have thought there was a
rivalry between them, but that was not so due to Kukai was consider an expert due to his training he
had with his mentor. Out of the two sects it would be Kukai that would still have a strong hold in the
Japanese culture today. It is important to understand how Kukai came to understand his beliefs and
what Esoteric Buddhism was for him and the influence Kukai would have on Esoteric Buddhism.
Esoteric Buddhism (Shingon in Japanese) refers to the mantra words and syllables that convey the
essence of the Buddha teaching (Symbols). Esoteric is about the word of presence, the word of God, a

Professional Gamer Negative Outcomes Of An Elite Gamer
Professional Gamer Negative Outcomes It s preposterous and a dream come true, the profession of an
elite gamer. In this day and age, this recreational activity is considered a career. The professional
sports they had in previous generations are transitioning into eSports, one of the fastest growing
industries in the United States, South Korea, and other places around the world. To put the
skyrocketing of eSport viewership into perspective, the 2013 League of Legends Season 3 World
Championship s thirty two million viewers surpassed both the BCS National Championship and game
seven of the NBA Finals by seven million, and more than doubled the viewership of the World Series.
(Kasten) With this career, however retirement comes quickly and fame dissipates gradually. The career
of a famous professional gamer is very dynamic and never set in stone. Although it is theoretically an
enjoyable career, professional gamers develop huge drawbacks which include persistent stress, video
game related health problems, and early retirement, which leaves the gamer living under inhumane
circumstances. The negative outcomes that result from the famous gamer profession, greatly outweigh
the positives.
In theory, the life of a professional gamer is the ultimate dream. To make thousands of dollars while
virtually kicking your enemies ass in a game of StarCraft, League of Legends, or Counter Strike. It is
very easy to enter the world of eSports, no college education is required, so any gamer

Power and Politics Paper
Power and Politics Paper
Power and Politics are necessary influences in most organizations today. Power is not a necessary evil
and is most often contained within the position of authority. Politics is a little harder to describe.
People often see it when an individual is attempting to influence a decision or position within an
organization without a formal role or authority. In this paper I will analyze an organizational
management and leadership practices that impact organizations. I will also provide a couple real world
examples of the relationships between power and politics and how this relates to management and
leadership practices.

The Hatshepsut Of Egypt During The 18th Dynasty

activities like trade, and construction. She expanded trade with Nubia, Libya, and countries in Asia.
She also ordered expeditions to present day Somalia, which was then called Punt, to acquire special

Should Innocent People Be Convicted With Only...
I think people should not be convicted with only circumstantial evidence. Most of the time people that
are convicted are convicted with circumstantial evidence are innocent. My three supporting ideas are
that circumstantial evidence is not enough it should be direct evidence, using circumstantial evidence
will most likely convict an innocent person, and it does not point to one person or party.
If the evidence is not accurate an innocent person will be convicted of a crime they did not commit.
For example, in the Brain Banks article Brain was convicted of a crime that never happened, he was
convicted with only circumstantial evidence. After Brain Banks served his six years in prison Wanetta

three main types of heroes include an epic hero, superhero, and your own personal hero. These heroes
show that it s more than the cape or armour they wear, they show the true meaning of a hero by
defining sacrifice, loyalty, and determination. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf displays

Essay on Differences between Lives in Solingen and Phoenix
Differences between Lives in Solingen and Phoenix
As I arrived at Phoenix in September of 1999, I was very excited to see this famous city and it s
country and to get to know everything about it. But with the time I realized that Phoenix is not more
different than my town in Germany, Solingen. It s a not a big city but it is a very beautiful one with
many small streets and small houses around them. I had even the impression that the life in Germany
was more exciting than in Phoenix. Now I m living in Phoenix for over one year and I can say now
that there are many differences between those two countries which had a big influence at our further
lives. I m talking about differences which you can t notice if you go there for a ... Show more content

the stores or places where you could have go out were pretty far away from our apartment. Mostly I
needed a car to go out somewhere. The buses are stationed only on few places and they arrive in very
long intervals. So after a time, we realized that we had to buy a car. In contrast to Phoenix, during our
time in Solingen, we used the car mostly for longer trips. The whole city was connected with bus lines
and they were coming to the bus stations every ten minutes. If we had to go somewhere in the city, we
used mostly the buses. We saved our gas money and were there always on time.
While in Phoenix you have problems to find the time to go out with your friends, in Solingen, I was
most of the time able to plan something at a short time. Every day after the school, I went to the
downtown of Solingen with some friends or alone and we were walking through the streets full of
stores and joking around. I did this almost every day in the week. On the weekends there were many
places to go out with friends like many clubs and cafe s in Solingen or in the bigger towns next to us
like Dusseldorf or Cologne. This cities are famous for their streets to go out there and have a good
time. People from all West Germany came over to these streets to have fun. So it was never boring
even in a small town like Solingen. I could always do something if I was bored.
A another good example thing that verifies the deference between these unlike cities is having a job.

Essay on Ban the Use of Cluster Bombs
Ban the Use of Cluster Bombs
It looked like the ball boys and girls toss each other during Hmong New Year festivities. Six year old
Sia Ya threw it to her four year old brother, He couldn t catch it and it landed behind him, exploding
and killing him instantly. Sia Ya died after two agonizing days and nights in the provincial hospital.
(Account of Laotian cluster bomblet accident in 1996 Laos War Legacy )
I. INTRODUCTION Cluster bombs were first used in the American conflict in Vietnam and Laos in
the sixties. They became popular because they are one of the cheapest air delivered weapons available,
costing about $60 per bomblet. They can be used against a variety of targets covering significant
areas, rather than, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some bombs open up (Multi dispensers), and other eject out the submunitions (Single dispensers).
Submunitions are classified as bomblets, grenades, or mines. They are small explosive filled or
chemical filled items designed for saturation coverage of a large area that can expand from several
football fields to hundreds of acres. They may be antipersonnel (APERS), antimateriel (AMAT),
antitank (AT), dual purpose (DP), incendiary, or chemical.
Most submunitions are used to destroy an enemy/vehicle in place (impact submunitions). They are
designed to go off when they hit the ground.
For example, the ball type submunitions used during the Laotian conflict are called APERS. They are
very small (of the size of a tennis ball) and are delivered by the hundreds for each bomb. If not
detonated upon impact, they will lie hidden like a land mine, and will not blow up until pressure is put
on it. When it hits the ground, a small fragmentation ball shoots up and detonates about 6 feet above
the ground.
The AMAT and/or AT submunitions are designed to destroy hard targets such as vehicles and
equipment. They are dispersed from an aircraft dropped dispenser and function when they hit a target
or the ground. The fin assembly stabilizes these submunitions in flight so they hit their targets straight
on. The submunitions are also used to destroy hard targets such as vehicles and

There are three types of exchange rates. They are:
1) Fixed rate
2) Managed float
3) Floating rate
FIXED EXCHANGE RATE REGIME
Central bank of any country takes decision on which type of exchange rate to use in their country.
When central bank takes decision that not to change value of their currency with respect to foreign
currency then it is termed as fixed rate. Different variants are available in fixed rate as,
1) Adjustable peg

One of the greatest example when a country moved towards managed exchange rate regime is France
after World War I. France had the stable currency, Franc since 1803 but during the war there was huge
emission of notes due to which the price level shoot up. In 1924, the country was nearing defaults
when the government intervened and took many measures to stabilize the currency. It cut down
expenditures, increased taxes, increased capital inflows. A new ceiling was introduced on money in
circulation which resulted in ceasing of treasury bonds. All of these measures led to accumulation of
foreign reserves and thus the value of Franc increased in the world market and the currency reached to
80% of its pre war

Rarr Essay
RAR, an abbreviation for Roshal Archive Compressed, is a compressed file, or data container that
contains some files and folders in it. File sharing websites and software distributors, at times, put their
data in a RAR file so that they can compress it to a smaller size at a later on stage, which would help
you to download the file faster than usual. These data are encrypted so that its contents are not visible
to other people. Most of the RAR files are not password protected, like files containing images,
documents, videos, etc. RAR files are handy when you need to download a vast amount of pictures or
videos, as instead of downloading each photo or video, one by one, you can download all of them at

The Albatross
The particular meaning of death is evidently endless, and with the limitless range of possibilities that
follow along with it comes with no amazement that the death scenes in literature sometimes create the
most significant themes in their relevant stories. One similar case to this would be the death of the
Albatross, in the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In the poem,
the Mariner carelessly shots the Albatross, guiding him and his men, without giving any good reasons
why he did so. This can be related to religion because the Albatross represents Christ because he was
our one and only option at achieving eternal life in Heaven, even after man continued to torture him.
The Albatross was the crew s one and only chance at salvation from the icy region, but the Mariner
destroys all their chances after killing the bird. His impression then would reveal his carelessness for
nature, a moment that would illuminate the logical purpose of the poem clearer now than it did before.

He shows no regret or shame as it falls out of the sky, along with no explanation for his disgusting
doing. The Mariner continues to tell his story as if he hadn t known what horrible thing he had done.
Later the spirit of the Albatross would come back and avenge its death by cursing the mariner and his
crew. After all his crew members have died is when he starts to appear sorrowful and begins to pray
not for help, but for God to take him also. At this point of the story, the fate of the mariner lies in the
hands of the spirits. Miraculously, he makes it back to his home country and is acknowledged by a
Hermit who helps him with his

Eveline Research Paper
Did Eveline Make The Right Choice?
The tale of Eveline is a very interesting story. Written by James Joyce in 1914, Eveline was part of a
collection of works entitled Dubliners. The story takes place in Dublin, Ireland around the time of
World War I. It is a narrative about a woman named Eveline who has a very important decision to
make. Eveline has met a sailor named Frank who is from Argentina and is visiting Dublin on vacation.
As the story proceeds, Eveline begins to develop feelings towards him and Frank asks her to
accompany him back to Argentina. However, due to unfortunate circumstances, Eveline s mother
passed away. Before her mother died, Eveline made a promise that she will care for her younger
siblings. Asides from the challenge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As much as Eveline was abused, she still cared for him, and he has feelings for her as well. As she
remembers, Eveline states that her father was becoming old and that he would miss her. Eveline then
goes on to recall a time where she was laid up for a day, and read a ghost story and made a toast for
her. One might argue that Eveline s conscience is beginning to take over her decision making. Eveline
states, in her home anyway she had shelter and food; she had those whom she had known all her life
about her (par.5). As Eveline is about to leave she begins to question the decision one last time.
However, Eveline states, Frank would save her. He would give her life, perhaps love, too, and it seems
as if Eveline is now questioning the life that Frank might provide her. by stating perhaps love, too (par.
18).
After taking into account the fact that she is unhappy in Dublin, Eveline is waiting at the station for
Frank. At this moment, Eveline is still unsure of exactly what she wants to do.If she went, tomorrow
she would be on the sea with Frank, steaming towards Buenos Ayres. However, as Eveline came back
to reality, one can argue that finally she woke up and realized that she knew nothing about Frank. She
was not sure about her feelings toward him and, her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or
recognition (para.

Essay On Impact Of Poverty On Child Development
Poverty has a large impact on a child s development, the child will be affected in a number of different
ways involving their education, health, behaviour and their intellect. When a child lives in a household
where their basic needs are being compromised it is often due to the family having to use the
resources that they do have access to for other factors that contribute to the whole family. As the
family have limited amount of resources it is often found the children have less access to opportunities
than those who aren t living in poverty. This essay will explore the negative impacts of poverty on a
child s health within developing countries, there are two forms of poverty, relative and absolute,
however it is more common for absolute poverty to occur within these developing countries.
Malnutrition is commonly found to be associated with poverty, often it is due to the lack of income
into the household which restricts the family to the food products that they can buy. The food that the
family are able to afford are often low in essential nutrients and vitamins, these food products are
cheap to buy and easy to cook. Malnutrition is defined as the lack of consumption of nutrients which
then leads to further health problems. Being malnourished can impact a child s development,
including weight loss, growth issues and cognitive issues. Having the correct nutrition intake is
required within childhood to ensure that the child develops in the correct way, it is extremely

Essay on The Impact of Refugees on a Society
The Impact of Refugees on a Society
The argument that refugees have a negative effect on society has been a topic of great debate for many
years, both in the UK and across many other countries. Almost since time began, the human race has
had problems when the situation in their area has changed for the worse, and they have had to make
tough decisions about where they should go next, and the problem has never been a more prominent
issue than in today s society. It is an argument with two clearly defined sides. On one hand, the
refugees, tortured, poverty stricken and living in fear day and night. On the other hand, the general
public, worried about the cost of looking after the asylum seekers, the ... Show more content on

Many of the asylum applications in the last three months have not come from Europe, but from Africa
and Asia. Statistics show that applications from the rest of the EU fell by 14% compared to the
previous three months. Top nationalities for asylum applications were nations where politics and
poverty have forced people to move out, such as Iran, Zimbabwe and Iraq. Every year, tens and
thousands of these refugees pour into Britain, seeking aid and support, but should they leave their
country? Is the situation in their country really bad enough to make them have the right to move here?
The main opposition to refugees coming to the UK is not the Tories or any Government party, but the
British taxpayer. Almost weekly, a new story hits the headlines detailing more statistics to make their
readers grimace, usually about the cost that each family has to pay to house asylum seekers, as proved
in the article Refugees cost us £13 each (Michael Lea, The Sun, March 2000), where phrases such as
Shocking , Chaos and staggering are deliberately used to turn the reader against refugees. Some
believe that people such as Lea use all of this emotive language simply to help sell papers by printing
headlines that do not shock the reader, the papers won t sell, so are the views printed in the

Asynchronous Transfer Mode for Transmitting Information Essay
ATM is called Asynchronous Transfer Mode. ATM is a networking technology which transmits
information in the form fixed cells. The main vision behind designing ATM was integration of
services and performance requirements of both telephony and data networking which was shortly
called Broadband Integrated Service Vision (B ISDN). This cell relay protocol was designed by ATM
forum and was universally adopted by ITU T. Usually the size of the fixed cells is about 53 bytes with
5 bytes for header and 48 bytes payload. When compared to the cell sizes used in the previous
technologies, the size of an ATM is small. The smaller size of the ATM cells gives us a major
advantage. ATM enables us to transmit video, audio and data over the same network ... Show more

This should be done without any degradation in the performance or without requiring any
replacement. 3. The design must be implemented in a less expensive method. In case the ATM
becomes the backbone of the international communications the cost of implementing it should not be a
major barrier. 4. The proposed system must ensure accurate and predictable delivery. This is possible
only if ATM is a Connection Oriented system. 5. The major objective of ATM was to move most of
the functionalities to the hardware side and have comparatively less functionalities in the software.
This will ensure higher speed in the delivery of packets. It is clear from the above points that the
major goal of ATM was to ensure guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). To ensure this various service
classes were defined by the ATM forum like Constant Bit Rate, Real time Variable Bit Rate, Non Real
time Variable Bit Rate, Unspecified Bit Rate, Available Bit Rate. ARCHITECTURE OF ATM
NETWORKS The ATM is a cell switched network as discussed previously. There are two important
interfaces which acts as a backbone to the whole architecture of ATM. The first is Network to Network
interface (NNI) and the other is the User to Network interface (UNI). The User to Network interface is
used to connect the User access devices or the end points to the switches, while the Network to
Network interface is used to connect various switches. The connection between two end

The Federal Bureau Of Investigations
Matt Fox Mr. Huggins U.S. History 21 November, 2014 The FBI The Federal Bureau of
Investigations was initially a group of secret agents created in 1908 by Attorney General Charles
Bonaparte. Bonaparte created the FBI under direction of 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt. For the
first couple of years, the amount of federal crimes was very low. The Bureau spent most of their time
investigating things such as national banking, bankruptcy, naturalization, antitrust, peonage, and land
fraud. In June of 1910, the FBI grew larger because the Mann Act. The Mann Act made it a crime to
transport women to other states for immoral reasons such as what would be labeled as prostitution in
modern terms. The FBI could now prosecute people who tried to flee over states lines. Because of its
continued worth and effectiveness, the FBI s number grew to over 300 special agents and 300 support
employees over the next few years. (FBI. FBI, 08 May 2013. Web. 02 Nov. 2014) When The FBI first
started, it required little to know specific training. However, it was a group of undercover agents at the
time so there weren t very many kids who wanted to grow up and become something that they have
never even heard about. Today, however, there are a series of long and challenging tests to become an
FBI Agent. In order to qualify for the FBI s Academy in Quantico, Virginia, there are four tests that
have to be passed. (FBI. FBI, 08 May 2013. Web. 02 Nov. 2014) The First is the Physical Fitness Test.

We Are Fascinated By Robots
People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and
artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films
is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something
human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks
this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While
perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and
thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have
been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart phones of today,
and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider
these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you
than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a
robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of
survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. Throughout the film, he is ridiculed for believing that
robots could be dangerous. They are all programmed with the Three Laws. Surely, with the Laws in
place, nothing can go wrong.
Spooner then meets a robot called Sonny, who

  • 2. Symbolism in the poem the Walrus and the Carpenter Lewis Carroll s The Walrus and the Carpenter could possibly be just a nonsensical rhyme meant purely for entertainment value. The fact that this is a nonsense poem inside a nonsense story makes it all the more difficult to decipher a deeper meaning. Like the author, who had a darker side to him, so too might his work. Carroll made this statement in a letter to an American friend,I m very much afraid I didn t mean anything but nonsense. Still, you know, words mean more than we mean to express when we use them; so a whole book ought to mean a great deal more than the writer means. So, whatever good meanings are in the book, I m glad to accept as the meaning of the book. (Shaw)This passage almost defines the relationship between the author ... The eldest Oyster looked at him,?But never a word he said:?The eldest Oyster winked his eye,?And shook his heavy head ?Meaning to say he did not choose? To leave the oyster bed. (Carroll 37 42 qtd. in Shaw)The youthful oysters, who have not yet dealt with such persons, agree to venture out on a jaunt. The trip down the beach symbolizes the blind way the common man will follow the politician to his eminent demise. The oysters gather and more and more follow the two leaders down the length of the beach. The Walrus and the Carpenter lead the oysters a great distance until the oysters are exhausted from the journey. Stopping on a rock that is conveniently low, the Walrus gathers up his followers, who stand in neat rows close by, and begins a speech with the most remembered portion of Carroll s poem. The time has come, the Walrus said,? To talk of many things:?Of shoes and ships and sealing wax ?Of cabbages and kings ?And why the sea is boiling hot ?And whether pigs have wings. (Carroll 61 66 qtd. in Shaw)The Walrus s speech is a remark on politicians gathering listeners and mesmerizing them into thinking that everything they say is pertinent to them when really it is all nonsense (De Rooy). Oysters do not care about shoes, they do not even have feet, which Carroll points out in a previous line. Before the walk, the oysters did make sure that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Rowe s Argument Of God And Evil God is Evil In this paper, I will carefully reconstruct Rowe s argument by: identifying the premises and conclusion, testing the validity and soundness according to Rowe s argumentation, determining what the best objection is, and finally discerning whether the opposition is truly the best counterargument. Rowe s argument originates from the argument of evil, which is, if there is an omniscient being, who is in fact, then why does this being allow meaningless suffering to exist ? Therefore, there is no God because gratuitous suffering does exist. In this argument, Rowe finds the definition for God and Evil within this argument. In Rowe s case, God means a wholly, good omniscient being, and Evil means(well in God s case) the action of not doing anything when animal or people are in need of such an awesome being. Rowe s argument is pretty much the same as the argument of evil, except he applied a few conditions, which is what he summarized from the evil argument himself . The conditons: If there is some greater good, it is only obtainable if God permits it. Or, there is a greater good, that God permits either, or some evil equally bad or worse. Finally, gratititous suffering is preventable only if omniscient God permits some evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question remain unanswered by his argument: If we do have free will, is that the reason that God cannot stop evil ? However, this is not an adepuate response to Rowe s argument, the best response is simply that God is evil. Rowe dives into himself in his second condition: ...or some evil equally bad or worse.. . • 4. Socioeconomic Status And Quality Of Education In an ideal world, socioeconomic status would not affect the quality of education one would receive. Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder. Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities would be relatively equal. Even with equal education levels, there would still exist some inequality in the form of legitimate inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would level the playing field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a society where money talks and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational background. Research has shown that a child from a high income family will have a better life chance and that a child from a low income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my paper, I will argue that there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education in that the higher socioeconomic status a person has, the better education opportunities they will be able to obtain. Statistically data from Piedmont, CA and East Oakland, CA demonstrates the idea that educational quality and opportunities is closely related to socioeconomic status. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy city surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area. To clarify, the median household income of Piedmont is $207,222 while East Oakland s median household income is $56,944 (US Census 2013). There is an extremely steep ... • 5. Graduation Speech When my family arrived in the United States as immigrants in December of 2000, we were foreigners in a strange place. We did not know any English so my siblings and I were placed in a school that had an English as a Second Language program specifically designed for immigrant students. I remember being pulled out of my normal classroom regularly to work with teachers and other students on activities that were designed to teach me English. The memory that stands out to me the most when thinking of those classes are the teachers who patiently worked with me sounding out words in books or writing sentences. The teachers made me excited about learning even when I was pulled out of my regular class at times when we were watching a movie or playing games. One day we were reading out loud in class and I nervously raised my hand to volunteer to read. I began reading the sentence in my small timid voice and as I continued reading I heard the voice of a girl who was comfortable and assured in the words she was speaking. There were no unsure pauses or nervous stutters in my reading and I remember feeling a sense of triumph that I could read so clearly. The separate time I received with these teachers played a large role in my success as a student. I was able to form a comfortable relationship that allowed me to be more engaged in the class and willing to learn without fear. Although I was disadvantaged because of ... • 6. How The Civil War Became A War To Free The Slaves When President Lincoln first called for troops to put down the confederate rebellion, he made no connection between this action and an attempt to end slavery. In fact, he explicitly stated the utmost care will be observed to avoid any devastation, any destruction of, or interference with, property... At this point, slavery was not yet integral to the struggle, it was much more important for the Union to air on the side of political prudence and avoid angering loyal boarder states. However, despite this lack of political dialogue, many abolitionists, slaves, and free blacks felt the war to preserve the union could also be a war to end slavery. In the end, they were right, as military need overwhelmed potential political dangers, slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these misgivings, the Union policy of returning slaves who had not been employed by the Confederacy continued as the army moved through the boarder states. When they began to move deeper south, however, this policy became much more difficult to enforce. General Ambrose E. Burnside found this to be true after invading coastal North Carolina and finding virtually no loyal slaveholders but many slaves who seemed to be wild with excitement and delight. This, combined with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly overruled by President Lincoln. However, while Lincoln clearly stuck down General Hunter s proclamation, he also offered aid to the boarder states so they may adopt a gradual abolishment of slavery. Despite this set back, Hunter continued to work for the emancipation of slaves, and went so far as to enlist ex slaves as soldiers without any authorization to do so. • 8. Gender Bias On The Classroom Gender Bias In The Classroom Gender roles are widely accepted societal expectations about how males and females should behave (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). Gender roles create a difference in the way that masculine and feminine behaviors are accepted among society. Gender roles are often depicted as just a part of who a person is and help better define the difference between male and female. When society begins to use these gender roles as norms we often see those who don t fit into the correct role become ostracized by society. When these gender roles become rigid they can become gender stereotypes. These stereotypes are fixed and oversimplified beliefs about the way in which men and women ought to behave (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). One of the most common gender stereotypes is that men are the breadwinners and women are the homemakers. These stereotypes also carry into emotions as well, women being more likely to feel sadness, fear and sympathy, while men are more likely to feel anger and pride. Another area where gender stereotypes can be observed is in the work place with women taking jobs such as nursing and teaching, and men holding jobs in fields like medicine and law. (Rathus, 2010, pg. 447). There are many physical, cognitive, personality, and behavioral differences between genders. Physically men and women have different primary and secondary sex characteristics. The primary sex characteristics are the organs of the reproductive system where women have ovaries and men ... Most of the time people that are convicted are convicted with circumstantial evidence are innocent. My three supporting ideas are that circumstantial evidence is not enough it should be direct evidence, using circumstantial evidence will most likely convict an innocent person, and it does not point to one person or party. If the evidence is not accurate an innocent person will be convicted of a crime they did not commit. For example, in the Brain Banks article Brain was convicted of a crime that never happened, he was convicted with only circumstantial evidence. The Albatross The particular meaning of death is evidently endless, and with the limitless range of possibilities that follow along with it comes with no amazement that the death scenes in literature sometimes create the most significant themes in their relevant stories. One similar case to this would be the death of the Albatross, in the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In the poem, the Mariner carelessly shots the Albatross, guiding him and his men, without giving any good reasons why he did so. This can be related to religion because the Albatross represents Christ because he was our one and only option at achieving eternal life in Heaven, even after man continued to torture him. The Albatross was the crew s one and only chance at salvation from the icy region, but the Mariner destroys all their chances after killing the bird. This cell relay protocol was designed by ATM forum and was universally adopted by ITU T. Usually the size of the fixed cells is about 53 bytes with 5 bytes for header and 48 bytes payload. The major objective of ATM was to move most of the functionalities to the hardware side and have comparatively less functionalities in the software. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots.
