The Impact Of The Modern American Home On The Environment
The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the entire house. Compared to other rooms, it
typically has a great deal more built in. Remodeling it is one of the most expensive things you can do
to a house. It also has substantial impact on the environment.
Why does it have so much impact on the environment? Because it is a work horse of a room. It uses a
lot of energy and water to keep everyone fed. A refrigerator is one of the bigger contributors to
electrical usage in your typical home, in part because you can t turn it off. It needs to be on 24/7.
Doing this room right is one of the better ways to make sure the home is eco friendly. A large part of
that is choosing the right appliances.
Some modern appliances can save enough energy over the course of a year or two to pay for
themselves. Getting things right from the very beginning can save money down the road by preventing
the need to upgrade in the near future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Start by right sizing everything. ( removed HTML )
The ideal image of the modern American home is rooted in the needs of the post World War 2 nuclear
family. As the soldiers came home, the nation came together and created the modern housing industry
from which was born modern suburbs. To this day, homes suited for a nuclear family with a full time
mom set the standard of expectations in the American housing industry.
But since then, our demographics have diversified. On average, there are few people per house than
there were in the 1950s. Lifestyles have changed and people eat out more than they used to. It may
make no sense to have a kitchen outfitted as if there is a full time mom cooking from scratch every
night for a large family.
This means the standard appliances can be overkill. If the space is only intended for two to three
people, a three burner stove may work well in place of a four burner one and it might make sense to
downsize the refrigerator as

The State System Of Higher Education
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) has, for decades, provided an
opportunity for students of all backgrounds to pursue higher education. PASSHE has been an
institution that allows students to gain knowledge, experience and skills that can be applied to not only
variables within their major concentration but also within their everyday life. The state system has, for
generations, developed the traditional and nontraditional student s critical thinking and awareness that
allows these individuals to become contributing members of society whether it be through monetary
gains or social and environmental sustainability. However, through many different outputs the state
system is being threatened and faces problems that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means a major decline for almost all universities programing as well as environmental change to
each school. This recent decline in the state budgeting system primarily affects faculty, staff and
students. Reasoning why a few Passhe schools had to make cuts in their faculty and staffing rosters.
Getting rid of professors draws a two way deficit on both the programing system and students. Most
programs have been cut due to recent budgeting declining. Without a representative being able to
teach the subject, it no longer has any use to the department. Meanwhile, students then have to be
condensed in larger class sizes for the remaining professors to teach them. Unfortunately, this brings a
significant drawback on each university, making it unsatisfying by some high school graduates who
look into specific career paths which are no longer an option. Enrollment is the next issue which
continues to harm the Passhe system. State funding being second to 70 percent of tuition dollars, is
where all universities under the Passhe branch will receive most of their funding. As we discussed
earlier on how the state system budgeting can affect Passhe. Enrollment is another significant factor as
well. When addressing enrollment, we must first look at the loss of many high school graduates. Most
high school graduates are
either exposed to two things, being opportunity cost or traditional learning. The opportunity cost
approach is where most

Feral Cats Essay
Cats are one of the most beloved pets to humans beings. Though they provided a sense of comfort and
love, there is a dark side to these soft, adorable, felines. Cats, both domestic and feral, poses a serious
threat to native bird populations in the United States and health risk to both people and other animals.
It is important that people realize the impact that feral cats have in the environment that they inhabit
and how it not only effects other species, but us humans as well. Feral cats have no form of human
interaction and therefore are difficult and or nearly impossible to assimilate as a regular house pet.
There appears to be limited options on what can be done to help assist in the reduction of feral cat
populations without sparking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to note the difference between stray cats and feral cats. Stray cats are cats that were
once owned and then later abandoned or lost. Feral cats are cats that grew up with no human contact.
Cat colonies are not some big happy cat family like Cat Warriors According to this article, in the 1980
s, the population of Brown Pelican colonies decreased as the population of feral cats increased, Feral
cats could depress Brown Pelican productivity in local areas... (Daniel, James, Gene, Franklin,
Leopoldp). Brown Pelicans constructs their nests close to the ground. Their natural predators when it
comes to eating their offspring s have been black rats. However, this relationship between pelicans and
rats have always existed before the introduction of cats. With cats interring the game, Brown Pelicans
not only have to defend their eggs and hatchlings from rats, but also a new, and skilled predator; cats
having the ability to attack and kill both parents and offspring will surely lead to the extinction of
Brown Pelicans along the California coast. Piping Plover, California Clapper Rail, Florida Scrub Jay,
and Hawaiian Petre are example of rare species of birds that find their existence threatened by cats.
According to an article from abcbirds.org, cats carry bacteria and viruses in their mouths, some of
which can be transmitted to their victims. Even if treatment is administered immediately, only about

Semiotic Analysis of True Detective
Semiotic Analysis of True Detective In 1951, the first television crime drama series, Dragnet
significantly influenced our American culture. According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, the
term dragnet is a symbol, for, a system of coordinated measures used to apprehend criminals or
suspects. Most crime drama series solve a different case each episode. Although, in current pop culture
crime dramas focus on one particular crime, throughout an entire season. Similar, to the show
Homeland, the HBO crime drama True Detective adds a twist on the conventional series. The show
depicts a subject matter that has affected modern society as a whole. Southern Louisiana police
detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, in 2012, are asked to revisit their solving of a ritualistic murder
case from 1995. The murder of a former student of the Light of the Way Christian Academy lays the
foundation, for detective Cohle s doubts about the true design of religion. The True Detective storyline
portrays the utilization of religion, education, and politics, by men in power who manipulate and
control young innocent children. Questioning the validity of religion within a crime drama series is
relative to modern society. The conspiracy within the Catholic Church to suppress hundreds of child
molestations committed, by Catholic priests is a pertinent sign represented in True Detective .
Southern Louisiana is located in the heart of the American Bible belt, where religion is not a choice,

front stage. (Gidden, 1991) Saving face which is another term created by Erving Goffman is used to
describe when individuals feel embarrassed, and they try to maintain their orderliness by
acknowledging that you have done wrong. The next concept that will be applying to my observation is
cultural objects. The term cultural object is an object or symbol that has multiple meanings; in society
we negotiated around these objects for power purposes. The next term that I will be focusing on in
civil inattention which was created by Erving Goffman, is acknowledging a human being that is in

Breeching civil inattention is the breaking of civil inattention. This is interacting that you may or may

How Did The Union Win The Civil War A Turning Point
During the time of the civil war, there were a lot of things that happened that affected the outcome of
the civil war. When this war started, both sides had reason to believe that they would win, but both
were surprised that the war was going to be longer and much more difficult than expected. After this
long and difficult war, it is safe to be said that the turning points and advantages that helped the Union
win this war were the resource ratio advantage, the population differential advantage, the battle of
Gettysburg, Emancipation Proclamation, and Sherman s March.
The civil war was a four year long war. Four years worth of war requires four years worth of
materials. Although this seems like such a small thing that plays a factor in the ... Show more content

The battles were fought in effort for the North to take over all of America in order to run all of this
land the Northern way instead of having the South run it a different way down South. The battle of
Gettysburg was memorable because this all changed. During this battle the South for the first time
went on the offensive to try and push the North further back into their territory and attacked them. The
two sides battled for three days until the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. Document 6
says this about the end of the battle, The Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg, sometimes referred
to as the High Water Mark of the Rebellion resulted not only in Lee s retreat for Virginia, but an end to
the hopes of the confederate states of America for independence (Document 6). This quote is
explaining the fact that the Lee and his army was not going to be able to force the North back so they
were eventually doomed. Without the force to push the enemy back you are going to be overrun so
this was a turning point in the war when this was realized. This may be seen as a turning point in the
war which it is, but it can also be considered an advantage. Since the North could not be over run there
was not as much pressure on them because they knew they could defend and they did not have to be as
worried of attack. The North used this advantage on its journey of winning the civil

Capital Gains Taxes
There are many different types of taxes out there that everyone has to pay at some point in their life.
There is a tax on Income, for instance, capital gains taxes, estate taxes, and inheritance taxes. Next is

person has $50,000 in long term gains from selling one stock, but have $30,000 in long term losses
from the sale of another, then that person could only be taxed on $20,000 worth of long term capital

Who Is Dexter Green
Dexter Green:
Dexter Green is our main character throughout the story. Dexter is born in Keeble, a Minnesota
village, but he later moves to Black Bear village, which is located 50 miles further north. He is the son
of Black Bear village s second best grocer and a Bohemian mother. Growing up in a middle class
family, Dexter also works as a caddie in Sherry Island Golf Club, but unlike many of the caddies he
has a reasonable life and is not poor like many of them. Dexter appears like an ambitious boy from the
beginning, and with a work ethic beyond the usual for a 14 year old boy. One of his main goals in life
is to advance and make a lot of money, which will elevate him up from the middle class that he has
grown up in: He wanted not association ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He aspires towards social advancement and a life of wealth and success. In the first chapter of the
short story, Dexter s winter dreams are filled with high expectations associated with an upper class
life. A hundred times, he replays an imagination of a summer at Sherry Islands in which he beats Mr.
T. A. Hedrick in a marvellous golf match. Untiringly, he changes the details of the matches.
Sometimes he would win with laughable ease and sometimes he came up magnificently from behind.
His dreams of succeeding would lead to him being honoured by an admiring crowd. He would by then
have achieved an adequate status amongst the wealthiest of patronisers at the Sherry Island Golf Club
. The dreams and aspirations towards success and prosperity make him quit his job already at the age
of fourteen: I don t want to caddy any more.. I m too old, (page 1). He then hands in his A class badge
, collected the salary that was due to him and walked home to Black Bear Village. He is persuaded by
his winter dreams and is willing to sacrifice in order to achieve them: ... Dexter was unconsciously

glimmerings things and glimmering people, instead he wanted the glimmering things themselves. F.
Scott Fitzgerald foreshadows the development of Dexter s American dreams: His winter dreams
happened to be concerned at first with musings on the rich... (page 2). Later, his real intention and
underlying American dream would turn out to take shape in a relationship with Judy Jones rather than
succeeding in business. It is no secret that by the end of the short story, Dexter and Judy Jones are
neither married nor engaging in a relationship. His real American dream is lost. This very sequence
and future of Dexter s American dream is already revealed within the second paragraph of the short
story. The second paragraph deals

Electrical Submersible Pump
Electrical Submersible Pump Analysis and Design

Electrical Submersible Pump Analysis and Design
Case Services, Inc.
Abstract
Case Services software provides production optimization for a variety of different methods of artificial
lift. This paper discusses the dominant factors in electrical centrifugal submersible pump design and
monitoring. Emphasis is placed on three areas: Well inflow performance behavior. Fluid Pressure
Volume Temperature and phase behavior. Pump equipment performance specifications.
An examination of fluid dynamics within a centrifugal pump provides appreciation for the need to
analyze the pump one stage at a time. The importance of individual pump testing is also identified.
This paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is crucial to analyze pump performance based on a known good condition. Experience
has shown that each serialized pump demonstrates unique performance data. Therefore, a factory
pump test should be obtained before the pump is installed in a well. The data from this test can be
used throughout the equipment life for accurate performance analysis. This discussion is limited to
conventional applications of centrifugal pumps specifically excluding: Pumps installed below the
producing formation. Downhole gas separation. Variable frequency drive considerations.
Focus is placed upon the pump itself. The downhole motor is discussed only in passing. Steady state
operation (no pump cycling) is also assumed.

The Basics
This section describes the formulas that are the basis for the csSubmersible suite s calculations. When
employing any pumping method, optimum artificial lift is achieved only when the pump is closely
matched to the well s ability to produce fluids. This is especially true with centrifugal pumping.
Before the pump design process can even begin, an accurate model of the well s inflow performance
must be developed.
How Much Will It Make?

A Sand County Almanac Summary
Fall is a time of change. The leaves change from green to brilliant shades of brown, red and yellow.
The seasons begin to change from the dog days of summer to the cool stillness of winter. Fall is my
favorite time of the year. When asked to choose just one chapter from A Sand County Almanac, my
first idea was to look in the section about the fall.
When reading the chapters about Fall, the one that struck a chord was the chapter about October. I
chose this section because it really seemed to paint a picture that reminded me of what the fall is like.
In Smoky Gold , the writer discusses hunting for birds. This is defiantly something that I associate
with the month of October. In Too Early, the author discusses what a person who chooses to go out
into the wild before dawn can witness. In Red Lanterns, the author discusses a pheasant hunt. All of
these readings give a feeling of fall. They reflect the month for which they were entitled and they help
to paint a picture of what I believe fall is. That is why I chose to write about this specific section of A
Sand County Almanac.
The first section of this chapter is called Smoky Gold. In this section of the chapter, the writer
discusses grouse hunting. He states that few people are aware of the grouse population in Adams
County. He goes on to say that most hunters speed on through to the counties farther north. He smiles
as he sits in the tamaracks and listens to sounds of these other hunters speeding by. The point he is
trying to make here is that there can be beauty in many places; you just have to take the time to slow
down and experience this beauty. The hunters that speed by are on their way to hunt in another place.
This is most likely a place they have been before. They are used to doing things the same way and
they do not take the time to try anything new. If they would slow down, they may come to discover
that what they are looking for can be found in Adams County.
Section two is called Too Early. In this section of the chapter, the author discusses the beauties that can
be seen by people and animals that get up before the sunrise. The author describes showing up at the
marsh too early for the sun was really a lesson in listening. The

Stanley Vs Blanche
Throughout the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams portrays Stanley and Blanche as
extreme opposites. This leads to a clash between characters due to Stanley s harsh and realistic view
on life and Blanche s illusionary and magical view. In the play, Williams is expressing that reality and
fantasy cannot exist together without conflict. Blanche s character in this play creates a world filled
with illusions and lies. She does so to hide from reality since she would much rather be known as the

He chooses to see the world for what it truly is, while Blanche is consumed with illusions. Throughout
the play, it is evident how often Stanley gets frustrated with Blanche s fantasy world she has created.
Stanley tries to warn his friend, Mitch, to be aware of Blanche s secrete lies. On some other occasion,
Stanley intervenes violently, stopping Blanche s and Mitch s dance. Blanche was trying not only to
seduce Mitch but also to make him believe in her innocence and even in her youth. Stanley, who had
done some research on her past, could not tolerate her lies towards Mitch, his friend. (Drobot). Stanley
informs both Mitch and Stella about Blanche s past. His main goal is to get both of them to see right
past Blanche s acts and have his life retreat back to how it was before she came. Stanley calls Blanche
out for the person she is and is not afraid to be blunt with her, because he is frustrated with her
interfering with his life. Furthermore, Stanley s view on women is a lot different compared to what
Blanche believes men are attracted to. In the play, Stanley announces, I ve never met a woman that
didn t know if she was good looking or not without being told, and some of them give themselves
credit for more than they ve got. I once went out with a doll who said to me, I am the glamorous type,
I am the glamorous type! I said. So, what? (Williams, 103). It is evident that Stanley s views when it

Leadership And Commitment Of Senior Management Essay
Leadership and Commitment
Senior management leadership and commitment forms a key element of this model. A successful OSH
risk management strategy must be driven by senior Management. This is the level of management
mandated to make critical decisions on policy development of an organization. Risk management is
most effective when it is integrated into the initial stages of business and strategic planning. In
Australia the public service legislation places an emphasis on high levels of professional leadership
and expertise; and performance management, and accountability in devolved management framework
(Commonwealth of Australia, 2005). In a study done to establish safety standards in Borabu District in
Kenya it was found that 36% of head teachers indicated that Board of Governors were uncooperative
in improving safety standards. (Migiro, 2012). Training institutions like other organizations must be
led by senior management that is committed to safety.
2.3.1.2 Active Involvement of all workers
Active involvement of all workers in the workplace ensures success of any OHS management
program, and helps to develop a safety culture in the workplace. Open communication between
management and workers support OSH activities. Employees provide critical OSH information as
they are often in the immediate work area and identify hazards. They can provide valuable advice
about risks and possible solutions (Commonwealth of Australia, 2005). In Kenya the OSH Policy
demands that workers

The Technology And Social Trends
When it comes to investing, millennials have a different approach than their parents. Young investors,
who have been through two market crashes, have developed skepticism and mistrust towards banks
and traditional advisory services. Many millennials prefer to save and forgo investing all together. For
those willing to test the market, technology and social trends play a significant impact on their
decision making. With millennials now outnumbering baby boomers in the U.S., many traditional
financial services strive to connect with the younger generation. This comes on the heels of a
noticeable upward trend in financial technology and online wealth management. Through the use of
technology, robo advisors have built a successful foundation for attracting young investors.
Technology
Given their love of technology, it comes as no surprise that millennials are gravitating towards
financial technology. Young investors are accustomed to using technology for every aspect of their
lives and investing is no different. Their relationship with technology makes digital asset management
more appealing. Young adults are more inclined to make choices via a smartphone over in person
interactions. Not only do millennials prefer accessible apps and web based platforms, but automation
has played a major factor in the success of robo advisors. Millennials are accustomed to subscribing to
all their services electronically. To them, investing is another service that should be automated.

Coprophagia Research Paper
The act of consuming feces is known as coprophagia. While most humans find this disgusting, poo
eating is a normal behavior in some species. It s rare that a plant is coprophagic, such as certain
cannibalistic plants, but a surprising number of animals partake in poo.
A mother dog will eat the feces of her puppies, because they aren t able to eliminate on their own. This
happens after she licks her puppies to activate the defecation reflex. Ingestion of the feces also keeps
the nest clean. Adult dogs without puppies sometimes eat their own feces, and other dogs feces. Some

Fly specks contain much undigested, or partially digested food. A fly will regurgitate some of its
stomach contents after landing on a potentially edible solid substance. The regurgitated liquid
dissolves the substance and creates more liquid for the fly to suck up.
Poo eating is normal behavior in horses, especially in foals. The feces a foal eats, especially from its
dam, is thought to introduce microorganisms in the gasto intestinal tract. These microorganisms are
needed to switch from a milk to a forage based diet. Other reasons for coprophagia in horses are
boredom, nutritional deficiency, and disease.
Opportunistic omnivores, pigs are known to eat mostly plant matter. But they ll also eat invertebrates,
small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They ll also eat poo. In Medieval Europe, pigs were used in
toilets. The toilet was built raised, and the pig lived below in a cave like chamber, eating human waste

up to between four to five feet, which is literally my grandma s height. Orangutan s hair colors are
slightly different than one another. Some have dark orange, brown orange and sometimes even pale
orange. Those are some of the rare colors you will see in orangutans; the most common hair color for
an orangutan is reddish orange. Their physical appearance is almost looking at a human being who is
very hairy. They have almost everything we have and look just like them for example. Orangutans

this for thousands of years and have adapted to it. I do think that humans and orangutans can relate to
the ecology behavior. For example our human ecology is basically a short term of having an
interrelationship between humans and our social, economic and political organizations. The
development of tool use amongst the apes is truly an amazing thing seeing as for us that is probably
how we once started out as. Slowly making and building new tools for our survival and comfort needs

Essay on Ibm Eclipse Case Study
1. Why was the creation of an independent IBM software group [SWG] strategically important? Note:
this discussion should include some view of hardware as well. The creation of an independent IBM
software group (SWG) was strategically important for the following reasons: a) A category of
software named middleware was emerging in the mid 90s. At this point SWG abetted IBM to emerge
in the middleware market. b) SWG was also strategically important for IBM to help focus its software
activities and prepare for a new age in distributed networked computing. ... Show more content on

Very soon java became popular in the software community, which resulted in more and more
companies building their line of products in Java. Though Java quickly gained momentum, it raised
new business and technical issues. On the business side, java weakened the stronghold of other
application development tools, especially Microsoft s Visual Studio. Also, market was becoming
fragmented with the introduction of many similar java development tools, thus increasing the
development costs for the ISVs trying to develop complements for java products. There were two
issues created by Java on the technical side. First, Java provided Swing, its own graphic environment
to provide consistent look and feel across multiple OSs which resulted in customers losing familiarity
with their native OS. Second, Java s Swing implemented their own set of graphic libraries adding
computing overhead, making Java applications slower than those applications which directly used
native operating system s graphic libraries. 4. Is a single platform a utopia, a nightmare, or something
in between? To develop your answer, think of this from the various points of view [POVs] of different
IBM organizations and managers. Single platform across all IBM tools would be a utopia, but creating

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder caused by pancreatic dysfunction resulting in absence
or insufficient insulin secretion. Different categories of DM are as follows; type 1 DM, type 2 DM,
other specific type and gestational DM (GDM) (Huether McCance 2012). Type 1 DM is caused by
autoimmune where there is no insulin production, type 2 DM happens later in life due to insulin
resistance from obesity, low level of HDL(good cholesterol), or polycystic ovary disease (Blair, 2016).
Other specific types could be idiopathic, and lastly GDM which is seen only during pregnancy due to
increased pregnancy hormone. Diabetes Insipidus (DI) is caused by vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone
(ADH) deficiency resulting in disorder of water metabolism. Hypotonic polyuria, increased thirst and
excessive fluid intake is common with DI. In addition, DI has four classification; namely neurogenic,
nephrogenic, gestagenic, and dipsogenic types (Walsh March, 2016). Pathophysiology of Diabetes
Mellitus
Type 1 DM is caused by autoimmune disorder where the T cell mediated disease damage the
pancreatic beta cell (Huether McCance, 2012). At the onset of the disease process, lymphocytic
infiltrates of macrophage activating CD4+ cells with cytokine secreting, cytotoxic CD8+cells
surround the necrotic B cells (McPhee Hammer, 2010) (p.507). This is a gradual process that happens
over several years. However, the production of glucagon increases due to the damage to the beta cells

Examples Of Literacy Redefined
Literacy Redefined Literacy practices are what people do with literacy. However, practices are not
observable units of behaviour since they also involve values,, attitudes, feelings, and social
relationships, (Barton, Hamilton, 2017, p.299, ). As Barton and Hamilton (2017) wrote, Literacy
practices are incorporated through several methods within literacy events (p.299). Just as Literacy
practices, the definitions of literacy events, reading, writing, and texts stretch beyond their
connotations. The terms previously mentioned are essential to redefinining literacy because they are
the building blocks of literacy. Literacy is an ongoing developing skill that is unique to each person s
life and is changing with time and cultural development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hawisher and Selfe s article (2017), they write about Melissa Pearson, an African American woman
who grew up in the 60 s and 70 s. Melissa Pearson s family lived in the midst of the rapid innovation
of the size and functionality of computers, as well as in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, The
Cold War, the election of John F. Kennedy, and other major turning points in American history

Selfe and Hawisher (2017) express that because of segregation, Melissa was placed in a segregated

present education paths, it was a great improvement in opportunity for African Americans compared to
the years before Pearson was born. Despite her disadvantage in the education system and in life
experiences because of her skin color, Pearson had a greater opportunity than other African Americans
because of her family s values. Pearson s literacy events described in Hawisher and Selfe s article

and moving to another country right at as microcomputers entered the US (Hawisher and Selfe, 2017).

Why Don t We Complain By William F. Buckley Jr
Who Can Complain As human beings we strive for more. The ultimate goal is to live a luxurious life
and accomplish the goals we set out for ourselves. Sometimes a person has to be grateful for what they
have, and just allow faith to run its course. There is a saying in my country, if you have everything you
want in life, and everything goes your way, you will die . What I mean by this is, once a person as
accomplished all their life goals, there is nothing left in life to fight for. Above all the material wealth
one could wish for, the most important thing is respect. In Why Don t We Complain by William F.
Buckley JR, Buckley really found the lack of respect and the lack of consideration some people have,
for him, intolerable. Compared to The Fourth of July by Audre Lorde, her parents did not contradict
any of life s circumstances, because they couldn t complain. Complaining would have made the matter
worse. Looking at these two essays I realize that complaining about something you feel is unfair is not
good, but there are certain complaints which are more serious than others.
Surprisingly, Why Don t We Complain and The Fourth of July both had problems with the train
system. A person would expect Audre s family to complain more about the trains; instead it was
William who mentions how uncomfortable he felt in that situation. In the Audre essay she mentions
how they could not dine in the diner car, meanwhile William was complaining about how hot the train
was. He was

Women in the Western Genre Essay
Ever since the early 20th century, there had been several attempts and experimentation in creating a
new genre of cinema known as the Western. The first well known Western movie The Great Train
Robbery (1903), while not necessarily being the first ever Western, it is by both film historians and
theorists definitely considered the pinnacle of the genre, that got it all started and that would be the
first step in creating others similar to it, but also very different. Because it was still an unknown genre
in film, there had not yet been established a set of rules as for how to construct films in this new
experimental genre so change was to be expected. One of the most significant changes in the genre

One other Western film that comes to mind when it comes to the role and treatment of women
(Shulman ix) is The Virginian, where Molly, an Eastern schoolteacher who comes to Wyoming from a
good but rather needy Vermont family faces several conflicts one all Westerns are typically all too
familiar with being the inevitable conflict of the East and West, but it seems as though throughout
their interactions with one another it serves as more of a guise for a contest between men and women
when Molly proceeds to educate the Virginian, then in turn educating and increasingly dominating her
thus resulting in a genteel version of the nineteenth century war between the sexes (Shulman ix), and
what could also be stated as a masculine feminine contest about responsibility and marriage (Shulman

of the film, Molly is still naïve when it comes to the attempted newly formed laws and customs of the
parts of the West, showing so when she objects to the lynching, but as The Virginian himself
explained, despite how greatly it upsets him as well it is something he has to do, because his friend
knew of the customs of the country, and that if they did not go through with the lynching the judges
wouldn t like it. However, soon Judge Henry overcomes Molly s feminine and Eastern objections, as

Distillation
Steam Distillation is the process of distilling a mixture wherein one of the immiscible phases is a
steam. It is a mild method for separating and purifying volatile liquid or solid organic compounds that
are immiscible or insoluble in water. This technique is not applicable to substances that react with
water, decompose on prolonged contact with steam or hot water, or have a vapor pressure of less than
about 5 torr at 100°C. One way to perform steam distillation is through the live steam method. It is the
more widely used method. It is especially used with high molecular weight (low vapor pressure)
substances. Although it requires more complex setup, this method reduces bumping.

7. Remove at least a tenth part of the distillate once it is already clear.
8. When distillation is to be stopped, the clamp in the water trap should be opened and the steam inlet
tube must be removed from the three necked flask (distilling flask).
9. Hot steam can produce severe burns so steam inlet tube must be cooled a little first before holding
and attaching it to the distilling flask.
10. Cool the whole setup first before dismantling.
11. The thermometer bulb should be below the side arm of the three way adapter.
12. When droplets condensate at the thermometer bulb, the temperature reading is the boiling point.
13. When the first drop of liquid falls into the receiving flask, the temperature reading is the
distillation temperature.
14. Cold water should constantly run through the lower half of the condenser and then water should go
out of the top part of the condenser.
15. When a solid substance is placed in the distilling flask for the live steam method, water is not
needed to be placed with it.
16. Cover joints or connections of two apparatuses with aluminum foil or Plaster of Paris to insulate it
so steam vapors won t condensate there.

Alfred Hitchcock s True Sense Essay
There is a certain familiarity yet suspense while watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie. In true sense
Alfred Hitchcock was an Auteur. Alfred Hitchcock was a film director and producer, who at times was
also referred to as The Master of Suspense . He pioneered many elements of the suspense and
psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and

Water (H2O) is a good solvent because it is partially polarized. The hydrogen ends of the water
molecule have a partial positive charge, and the oxygen end of the molecule has a partial negative
charge. This is because the oxygen atom holds on more tightly to the electrons it shares with the
hydrogen atoms. The partial charges make it possible for water molecules to arrange themselves
around charged atoms (ions) in solution, like the sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl−) ions that dissociate
when table salt dissolves in water.
Other substances that dissolve in water also lower the freezing point of the solution. The amount by
which the freezing point is lowered depends only on the number of molecules dissolved, not on their
chemical nature. This is an example of a colligative property. In this project, you ll investigate

Winston Churchill Personality
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Xplore). This quote
by Winston Churchill exemplifies his hardworking and stubborn personality which helped him
become a figurehead of British history. Churchill s time as a young boy inspired him to pursue a
career in politics, which in turn transformed him into a masterful public speaker and the legendary
personality that he is remembered and celebrated for today. Winston s early years played a major role
in shaping him into the legendary leader he was later in his life. Winston Leonard Churchill was born
on Nov, 30, 1874, in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England. His father was Conservative politician,
Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill and his mother was Jennie Jerome, daughter of a New York
stockbroker, financier and newspaper proprietor. They were a glamorous high society couple but,
distant parents. They were more interested in being part of the English society than caring for her son.
His parents were rarely around to care for and love him; this lead to him resenting them at times. He
felt they treated him as an afterthought (International Churchill Society 1 2). Winston had one younger
brother, named Jack Churchill, who took up his parents attention even more. Since their parents were
always away from home, the Churchill boys were cared for by a nanny named Mrs.Everest. Winston

The Causes Of Colonialism And Imperialism

Imperialism The act of stronger nations taking direct control of weaker nations in order to to create
empires economically, politically, culturally, and/or militarily. Much of Africa and Asia were under
European domination because of imperialism.
Nationalism A citizen s passionate feeling of devotion and pride for their country. Nationalism usually
suggests that a nation s people believe themselves, their ideals, and their goals to be superior to those
of other nations. Many citizens felt a rise in nationalism due to competition among European nations
for large empires.
Annex The act of an already existing country acquiring and controlling a new territory. The United
States expanded by annexing Texas.
Banana Republic Minor C. Keith provided financial services to the government of Costa Rica. In
return, he won long term leases for lands and railroad lines. By 1913, Keith s United Fruit Company
exported 50 million bunches of a bananas a year to the United States. The bananas also played a
significant role in the governments and economies of Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras. Because
of this, Costa Rica was referred to as a banana republic (as were other countries who depended on one
primary resource for most of their economic influx).
Alfred T. Mahan Argued that the nation s economic future hinged on gaining new markets abroad. In
his view, the United States need a powerful navy to protect these markets from foreign rivals.

Social Darwinism The discriminatory belief that expansionism was not only the nation s destiny, but

Because I regard some other person as different, and envision this difference as enriching, not
limiting, notwithstanding the fact that I might not want a specific person inside my private space at a
given time, it does not make me a bigot, or a terrible person. What I see as true nightmare is a
pasteurized world, where, despite the rhetoric in favor of the different, what has been sought in fact is
the homogeneity of humans: Everybody must embrace the same values and obey some theoretical
global leadership.
The issue is quite confusing, I admit. I could never declare that I admire Sharia Law or, to be quite

carbon tax law, the Australian ETS is a political issue due to the economic and social problems it
entails. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to the
unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010; Adams,
2014; Watkins, 2014). Hence a move to the ETS will be unlikely in the future.
Introduction: The Australian Carbon Footprint
Australia has the highest greenhouse emissions per capita as of 2009 (Figure 1). This is attributed to

The Carbon Tax Law and Emissions Trading Scheme
Up to 2013, successive Australian governments have lobbied for an emissions trading scheme (ETS)
to curb national emissions. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in
July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne
which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and
facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011;
Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining
sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate
Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution
will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible
(Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice
industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job
market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government
also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012;
Watkins, 2014).

The Major Problems Of Population Overcrowding In Canada
Problems of Population Overcrowding
The day when population of GTA reach its maximum may be just around corner. Where and why are
people concentrated in GTA? Most people tend to live in cities rather than sub urban areas due to
amenities, job opportunities, infrastructure and educational facilities. Also, immigrants are the major
reason why the population overcrowded in cities. According to the Government of Ontario, over the
past
20 years, the target range of immigrants has been increased gradually. For example, the target range of
immigrants was 280,000 to 320,000 in 2017 and 260,000 to 285,000 in 2016. These numbers are
about
0.75 per cent of total population in Canada each year. (Ministry of Finance, 2007). These factors cause
population overcrowding in GTA and it may lead to several problems such as traffic jams, housing
bubbles and the rise in the homeless rate. These problems can be solved by moving infrastructure,
regulating using a car once a week and implementing training programs.
These days, some people believe that traffic jams occur more often than before. The Toronto
Transit System is slowing down due to heavy traffic. Statistics Canada stated that the number of
vehicles registered in the Control Vehicle System is 18,608,297 in 2005. But, in 2017, the number of
vehicles registered in Ontario is 11,948,296, which is almost two third of number in 2005. (Statistics
Canada, 2017).
People experience inconvenience everyday and are more at the risk of car accidents

Comparing Thompson And Trotter
Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Tariq Black Thought Trotter has always been themselves. In a time
where rappers or hip hop artist carried the stigma of criminality or some other nefarious act, these
gentlemen remained intelligent and social aware while producing the music that they love, seen at the
time has divisive and threatening. Trotter told stories of inner city youth seeking a better life despite
the ills most confronted with every day, some since birth. In every interview, Thompson and Trotter
clearly projected their thoughts in ways that anyone could relate to and understand regardless of their
socioeconomic status or level of education. Both a product of the Philadelphia High School for the

  • 2. The Impact Of The Modern American Home On The Environment The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the entire house. Compared to other rooms, it typically has a great deal more built in. Remodeling it is one of the most expensive things you can do to a house. It also has substantial impact on the environment. Why does it have so much impact on the environment? Because it is a work horse of a room. It uses a lot of energy and water to keep everyone fed. A refrigerator is one of the bigger contributors to electrical usage in your typical home, in part because you can t turn it off. It needs to be on 24/7. Doing this room right is one of the better ways to make sure the home is eco friendly. A large part of that is choosing the right appliances. Some modern appliances can save enough energy over the course of a year or two to pay for themselves. Getting things right from the very beginning can save money down the road by preventing the need to upgrade in the near future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Start by right sizing everything. ( removed HTML ) The ideal image of the modern American home is rooted in the needs of the post World War 2 nuclear family. As the soldiers came home, the nation came together and created the modern housing industry from which was born modern suburbs. To this day, homes suited for a nuclear family with a full time mom set the standard of expectations in the American housing industry. But since then, our demographics have diversified. On average, there are few people per house than there were in the 1950s. Lifestyles have changed and people eat out more than they used to. Most crime drama series solve a different case each episode. Although, in current pop culture crime dramas focus on one particular crime, throughout an entire season. Southern Louisiana police detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, in 2012, are asked to revisit their solving of a ritualistic murder case from 1995. The murder of a former student of the Light of the Way Christian Academy lays the foundation, for detective Cohle s doubts about the true design of religion. The True Detective storyline portrays the utilization of religion, education, and politics, by men in power who manipulate and control young innocent children. • 12. A Sand County Almanac Summary Fall is a time of change. The leaves change from green to brilliant shades of brown, red and yellow. The seasons begin to change from the dog days of summer to the cool stillness of winter. Fall is my favorite time of the year. When asked to choose just one chapter from A Sand County Almanac, my first idea was to look in the section about the fall. When reading the chapters about Fall, the one that struck a chord was the chapter about October. I chose this section because it really seemed to paint a picture that reminded me of what the fall is like. In Smoky Gold , the writer discusses hunting for birds. This is defiantly something that I associate with the month of October. In Too Early, the author discusses what a person who chooses to go out into the wild before dawn can witness. In Red Lanterns, the author discusses a pheasant hunt. All of these readings give a feeling of fall. They reflect the month for which they were entitled and they help to paint a picture of what I believe fall is. That is why I chose to write about this specific section of A Sand County Almanac. The first section of this chapter is called Smoky Gold. In this section of the chapter, the writer discusses grouse hunting. He states that few people are aware of the grouse population in Adams County. He goes on to say that most hunters speed on through to the counties farther north. He smiles as he sits in the tamaracks and listens to sounds of these other hunters speeding by. The point he is trying to make here is that there can be beauty in many places; you just have to take the time to slow down and experience this beauty. The hunters that speed by are on their way to hunt in another place. This is most likely a place they have been before. They are used to doing things the same way and they do not take the time to try anything new. If they would slow down, they may come to discover that what they are looking for can be found in Adams County. Section two is called Too Early. Other specific types could be idiopathic, and lastly GDM which is seen only during pregnancy due to increased pregnancy hormone. Diabetes Insipidus (DI) is caused by vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone (ADH) deficiency resulting in disorder of water metabolism. Hypotonic polyuria, increased thirst and excessive fluid intake is common with DI. In addition, DI has four classification; namely neurogenic, nephrogenic, gestagenic, and dipsogenic types (Walsh March, 2016). Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 DM is caused by autoimmune disorder where the T cell mediated disease damage the pancreatic beta cell (Huether McCance, 2012). At the onset of the disease process, lymphocytic infiltrates of macrophage activating CD4+ cells with cytokine secreting, cytotoxic CD8+cells surround the necrotic B cells (McPhee Hammer, 2010) (p.507). The ultimate goal is to live a luxurious life and accomplish the goals we set out for ourselves. Sometimes a person has to be grateful for what they have, and just allow faith to run its course. There is a saying in my country, if you have everything you want in life, and everything goes your way, you will die . What I mean by this is, once a person as accomplished all their life goals, there is nothing left in life to fight for. Above all the material wealth one could wish for, the most important thing is respect. In Why Don t We Complain by William F. Buckley JR, Buckley really found the lack of respect and the lack of consideration some people have, for him, intolerable. Compared to The Fourth of July by Audre Lorde, her parents did not contradict any of life s circumstances, because they couldn t complain. Complaining would have made the matter worse. Looking at these two essays I realize that complaining about something you feel is unfair is not good, but there are certain complaints which are more serious than others. Surprisingly, Why Don t We Complain and The Fourth of July both had problems with the train system. The hydrogen ends of the water molecule have a partial positive charge, and the oxygen end of the molecule has a partial negative charge. The partial charges make it possible for water molecules to arrange themselves around charged atoms (ions) in solution, like the sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl−) ions that dissociate when table salt dissolves in water. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011; Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible (Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012; Watkins, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Where and why are people concentrated in GTA? Most people tend to live in cities rather than sub urban areas due to amenities, job opportunities, infrastructure and educational facilities. Also, immigrants are the major reason why the population overcrowded in cities. According to the Government of Ontario, over the past 20 years, the target range of immigrants has been increased gradually. For example, the target range of immigrants was 280,000 to 320,000 in 2017 and 260,000 to 285,000 in 2016. These numbers are about 0.75 per cent of total population in Canada each year. (Ministry of Finance, 2007). These factors cause population overcrowding in GTA and it may lead to several problems such as traffic jams, housing bubbles and the rise in the homeless rate. These problems can be solved by moving infrastructure, regulating using a car once a week and implementing training programs. These days, some people believe that traffic jams occur more often than before. The Toronto Transit System is slowing down due to heavy traffic.
