Creating a High Speed Rail Line in Wisconsin Essay
The people of Wisconsin who commute from Madison to Milwaukee and vice versa would find a
High speed rail line useful for many reasons. Granted most people that commute from Madison to
Milwaukee of vice versa aren t doing it every day. They are generally just doing it once in a while.
The technology of high speed rails is relatively simple; it consists of magnetic tracks repelling the
train with a polar opposite magnet on the bottom. This creates a surface with little friction; therefore
the train can go faster. A lot of factors come into play when the state thinks of funding this. Governor
Walker rejected the funds and cancelled the project in 2010, but there are people that sill have hope.
The cost of operation is in the millions per ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The states of Ohio and Wisconsin were given about $1.2 billion, but they both passed the grants up.
The funds were reallocated to other states ( Wisconsin and Ohio ). For many the hope for high speed
rail in the near future in Wisconsin has diminished because of Governor Walker rejected the funds, but
Minnesota never stopped planning. Governor walker would have liked to spend the money on other
things such as highway systems for the state and other infrastructure. After Wisconsin governor Scott
Walker cancelled the funds for the high speed rail program, Minnesota continued planning. They
currently are still planning a line from Milwaukee to Minneapolis that would run about 110 mph.
Consequentially, it doesn t run through Madison. The route is called the Empire Builder and the state
of Minnesota plans to upgrade the line (Ryan). This line wouldn t help commuters between Madison
and Milwaukee, but it would make an easy trip from Milwaukee to the Twin Cities. The state of
Wisconsin plans to pay around $57,000 of the planning for the line. That is about half, and the plan
should be drawn up by the summer of 2014 (Ryan). High speed rail will modernize Wisconsin and
America if implemented. If American wants to stay a modernized country and stay ahead of the others
they would need to stay ahead of the technology that is not the case with high

Limbic System Research Paper
Yet we judge people by their appearances all the time, said David Perrett. When you find another
person attractive it is your human instinct to find a mate. Women look for strong but gentle fathers for
their child and men look for gentle birthing mothers for their children. This is the scientific reasoning
behind composite faces. Composite faces are a mixture of the attractive features that your brain sees
and understands it as beautiful. It is believed that the human brain s occipital lobe and limbic system
are responsible for the desire and feeling of attractiveness toward faces. (Perrett)
To understand the way we see composite faces, the brains relevance to sight must be understood as
well. The part of the brain that is responsible for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why do people find others attractive? This is a question that has been asked since the human species
started taking pride in their appearance. Women and men look for very different qualities. Where a
man may look for a small nose and full lips, a women will look for a defined jawline and raised brow
line. A female s interest in a male may differ depending on what type of person they wish to be with. If
they want a strong masculine man they may want a temporary relationship, while they may look for a
gentle looking male for a long term interaction. Facial features also indicate certain desirable or
undesirable personality traits, which accounts for the desire of a mate. Studies show that most people
find the same faces attractive, which insinuates that today s society has labeled what and what isn t
acceptable or beautiful in people.

Local Governments In Texas
In Texas local governments play a major role in the wellbeing and safety of its citizens. In each county
of Texas there are an average of about 19 general purpose governments, that means that all the county
general purpose local governments combined would be more than 4,800. In the United States of
America all but two states have governmental units known as counties or parishes. County
government is primarily a way of governing rural areas, because Texas is so vast, with huge areas that
are sparsely populated, county government remains an important aspect of local government. County
governments in rural areas do not actually have the ability to govern themselves, they act more as an
extension of state government. Municipalities or ayuntamientos ... Show more content on

Law enforcement is another one of the important services that the county government must supply it
citizens with. In Texas, the counties have control over law enforcement budget, but it is often the
sheriff who will decide how its spent. The person in charge of this job is usually a sheriff or
constables. Every county in the state of Texas has a sheriff and a county court which belongs to said
sheriff. Often times operating a county jail can be very expensive especially when the jail has a
capacity of 13 and there s is only one single inmate in the entire facility. Traditionally in Texas the
office of constable has been an elective office with limited duties. Some constables change their
offices into full fledged police departments. Some constables offices have traffic enforcement roles,
some enforce truancy laws, and some even have formed heavily armed, tactical units that patrol high

Persuasive Essay On Whitewater Canoeing
Many people love the excitement of extreme sports. One of those sports is whitewater canoeing,
which involves going over waterfalls and battling strong currents. The problem is that the canoe can
get wedged between rocks and stuff, or the person may be thrown into the freezing water. Some
precautions can be taken, like wearing life jackets and helmets, but the sport is still hazardous. Age
restrictions should be set for whitewater canoeing, because serious injuries or death may occur from
the river features like rocks, branches, and waterfalls. Whitewater canoeing is a very intense sport.
The rocks are dangerous, and people may get hit by their friends paddles if a collision knocks
someone out the boat. Spring water and ice water

Different Types Of Different Risks In An IT Audition
Other Risks. There are different types of risks in an IT setup which are supported by segregation of
duties outlines and formats. Audit risk is a risk that the auditor will issue an unqualified opinion.
Being a major aspect prone to fraud, audit risk entails material error can be hardly identified and can
go undetected during an information financial audit report. The audit risk however has different
classifications. Inherent risk The risk that an error exists that could be material or significant when
combined with other errors encountered during the audit, assuming that there are no related

Overall audit risk the combination of individual categories of audit risks assessed for each specific
control objective. An objective in formulating the audit approach is to limit the audit risk in the area
under scrutiny so the overall audit risk is at a sufficiently low level at the completion of the
examination. Another objective is to assess and control those risks to achieve the desired level of
assurance as efficiently as possible.
As much as this risks are prone to attacking the system; control risk assessment must be backed up by
control testing results.
Suitable Control Mechanisms
For more efficient and effective audit procedures, they are different control mechanisms that can be
applied in order to minimize risk: Mitigation is the most commonly used mechanism that involves
fixing the flaw or in a way providing a set of ways to compensate and control the impact that is
associated therein. The most common is installing system patches at any point a vulnerability has been
discovered. Under mitigation, ensuring compliance can be applied by ensuring compliance with
relevant bodies and rules, logical access can be tailor made so as to clearly target areas with the most
risk and those areas where change can be made and easily implemented. The use of monitoring
counters is the hardware assisted technique usually that adds the least amount of performance
overhead while minimizing the requirement to patch the kernel. It in turn offers a way to

The Case Of Bp Oil Spill
about the dangers of oil and how to clean it up in case it were to get released into the wild. Mitigation
is the actions to reduce or eliminate the risks to people and property from such hazards and their
effects (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition of mitigation seems to say that, when dealing with risks,
they want to greatly reduce any dangers that might come with each risk, and want to save as many
lives or property from severe damage or in some cases death. In the case of the BP oil spill, one
mitigation would be so that no oil would get out and affect the ocean or marine life. Most oil rigs
come with safety standards or protocols in order to mitigate any dangers it might have, to keep the
marine life safe, and the safety of the workers on the oil rig. Here the lessons learned could apply to
the BP oil spill to make sure it didn t happen in the first place. In fact, the disaster could have been
prevented through proper training, education, and exercises (Haddow et al, 2014). Here we can see
that the BP oil spill could have been prevented if the right precautions were put in place and had the
people running the oil rig had proper training on how to handle an emergency if it were to occur on
their watch. The disaster could also have been prevented through a series of preparedness.
Preparedness is the capacity to respond to a disaster, crisis, or any other type of emergency situation
(Haddow et al, 2014). This definition seems to say that, when we use preparedness, it

Manson s Family Of Young Teenage Runaways
Now is the time for Helter Skelter, (Christian 2). The notorious murderer and cult leader Charles
Manson announced Helter Skelter, a predicted racial war between whites and blacks in America, to his
followers one morning in 1969 to prepare them for the chaos that they would inflict upon our country.
The Manson Family, as it came to be known, gruesomely murdered several well known celebrities and
regular civilians in a bloodbath of terror, which left millions of people aghast and deluged with an
overwhelming sense of fear. The 1960 s were an extremely tumultuous era, and the well known
Manson Cult crimes contributed profoundly to the carnage of the decade. Manson s family of young

with more hands to carry out his maniacal plans and diabolical schemes. Each member was now a
puppet tied to Manson s strings, and they would gratefully bend over backwards for their leader, their
master, and their everything. In the beginning, the members of the Manson Family were mellow, laid
back, and inebriated twenty four/seven; however, several members acquiesced to Manson s orders and
practically placed themselves on the front page of every California newspaper. Tex Watson, Squeaky
Frome, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten came to be known as Manson s
most devoted followers (Christian 2). These individuals were willing to do all the dirty work for
Manson, whatever the price might be. If Manson said Jump, they asked How high? , and if Manson
said Kill, they asked How many? Additionally, a later recruited member, Linda Kasabian, would end
up as the lookout for the gruesome murders carried out by her brothers and sisters (2). However,
initially Linda had no clue what she signed herself up for, assuming that the Spahn Ranch was merely
just a place to live, to do drugs, and to hook up with men; nonetheless, she soon got her eye opening

What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat s song Try. Caillat uses
simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel because they
try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition
of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated in an
interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing people
comment on is your image . . . when you don t wear makeup, you hear things like, Oh wow, you look
tired or you re so brave for not wearing makeup! Caillat uses her words, and influence as a celebrity,

We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front of a plain and
drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat starts out all dolled up and then
proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions and a
wig, to un Photoshop themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their faces, and side by side
videos of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but showed
smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their faces as they accepted
themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally shined out of their faces like
sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as they sang along with Caillat s words.
Although this song carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore proudly by the
women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to society such as
being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was
perfect and nobody s skin was oily, had any acne, discoloration, or scars. Those imperfections society
judges more because it is gross and easy to point out. These women looked beautiful with and without
makeup, but without they were liberated and showed their true beauty and who they were. After
watching the video all around the world, people understand how society s expectations make women

Comparing Cops And The Literary Versions Of The Maltese...
Cops and Chiaroscuro In the film and the literary versions of The Maltese Falcon, cops are portrayed
differently because of the distinct tools available to each media. The written descriptions of the novel
give people on the police force a personality, so that they are humanized. On the other side, the film
creates a cynical depiction of cops, where policemen are less complex humans than the criminals of
the world, so this portrayal makes the film s world appears grimmer than the literary world. In lieu of
written description, the lighting of Huston s The Maltese Falcon (1941) causes the policemen to lack
some of the depth that they had in Hammett s novel of The Maltese Falcon (1929) because the lighting
creates fewer contrasting shadows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In figure 2, Polhaus and Dundy wear nearly identical outfits, they have the same grim expressions, and
they have extremely similar lighting on their faces, clothes, and hands. In figure 3, they both appear
menacing with the same dark lighting and this lighting reinforces the idea that Spade is more
trustworthy than the cops. Figures 2 and 3 illustrate how the individuals in the police force have been
blurred, so that they are nearly the same. It has already been established that the lack of contrast in
shadows on the faces of the cops makes them less complex characters, and since all the cops are
similar, it means nearly all are superficial in a way, and that Spade is more human than all of them
because he is in charge of his own actions and morals. The cops in the film have been transformed
from characters into plot devices and obstacles for Spade to get around. This de characterization of the
police forces people to relate to criminals and morally ambiguous private investigators like Spade. The
world of the film is bleaker than the world of the novel because cops, who are meant to protect and
serve others, have been slightly discredited. Thus, the institutions in the filmic world are seen as
ineffective and unstable, and the audience can only relate to people like Spade who work outside the

Essay About Fairy Tales
Introduction As a child, I am fond of fairy tales. In fact, my night would not be complete without my
mother reading me a fairy tale story before going to sleep. One of my favorite fairy tale stories, for
instance, is the story of Aladdin. As a child, it amazes me to think that I have a genie friend who can
give me anything I want. I was thinking about wishing for a castle full of chocolates and goodies and
imagine myself riding that magic carpet while sneaking up on the houses of my friends. Fairy tales
gave me wonderful experience as a child, which I believe enhanced my creativity and imagination.

Some scholars believe that as soon as humans were able to speak, they might have already formulated
their own version of fairy tales in their story telling (Evolution of Storytelling and Fairly Tales, n.d.).
Apparently, fairy tales are deeply embedded in human culture that it can be found even in the earliest
writings of the Aryans and the Hindus (Bunce, 1878). The early Greeks Iliad and Odyssey as well as
the early Anglo Saxons Beowulf are just a few examples of folk tales that have been told until today.
Although these stories are not meant for children, these folk tales laid the foundations of today s
modern fairy tales (Anderson, 2006). Most likely, every culture has their own version of fairy tale,
which could have evolved from the folk tales of their ancient pasts. Modern fairy tales combines the
elements of fables and fantasy in order to instruct moral values. Among the most common are Snow
White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beasts, The Frog Prince, Pinocchio and many other fairy tales of
such genre, which highlights moral values such as goodness, loyalty and honesty. On the other hand,
some modern fairy tales such as Alice s Adventures in Wonderland are purely entertaining without the
need for moral emphasis (Anderson,

Causes And Effects Of The Chinese Inclusion Act
Signed by President Chester A. Arthur on 6 May 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was the very first
law passed by Congress that targeted a specific ethnic group. It was specifically implemented in order
to restrict the immigration of the Chinese into the US as well as interdicting them from becoming a
US citizen. Until the expiration of ten years next after the passage of this act, the coming of Chinese
laborers to the United States be, and the same is hereby, suspended; and during such suspension, it
shall not be lawful for any Chinese laborer to come or to remain within the United States. (Act Sec.1)
[1] Evidently, the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was an event of great misjudgment and blind racism
as shown by its racial discrimination, unjust actions, and laws/prerequisites regarding immigration to
the US. Already facing racial and financial hardships, this particular ban is clearly inequitable as the
Chinese were only immigrating to earn money in order to support their families.
A substantial increase in Chinese immigrants first commenced in 1849 when the gold rush in
California occurred. They were facing extreme poverty back in China where the Taiping Rebellion
caused mass famine and a substandard economy. In such a negative condition, many Chinese
immigrants came with hopes of finding wealth to support their families back in China. They were
exceptionally amicable, frugal, and hard working. Furthermore, they were willing to take low wage
jobs that other groups

Descriptive Essay On The Desert
The hot, arid air burned into my soul as I faced the barren desert surrounding me. My family and I
were on a long awaited vacation to the Grand Canyon, yet we had to drive over 15 hours I radiated
impatience throughout the journey. Walls of heat shrouded me as I gasped for air my efforts were
fruitless, however, swallowing nothing but fire. As the fire in my lungs grew, I looked out the window
and into the looming suns heart. Suddenly, my eyes collapsed and tears engulfed them till they took
their true form; a forest blanketed with soft, gleaming snow. However, I was evoked from my reverie
by a vehement cry and I was staring into the eyes of tattered vultures, of every discrepancy, who
recited a prophecy only I could hear. Who dares enter our land! they screeched in a dissonant manner.
Trembling, I gazed at the sun and was standing amidst a perpetual desert the vultures eyes glued to
me. I froze with fear, though the sun baked my skin. A meal for today, the vultures rasped
flamboyantly, cooked to a crisp! Uh, I sighed, I couldn t wait 10 minutes to save me from you
repulsive demons! I woke up like a corpse rises from the grave, my red eyes flooded with tears. The
cool air lulled my throat; dissipating the faint memory of a raging fire and loathsome vultures
scavenging my flesh. As the tears coated my face, I sat up until a symphony of cracks sang from my
spine. Despite the agonizing pain, I turned around and the world revealed itself as a contemporary

Biomedical Model Vs Biopsychosocial Model
The biopsychosocial model and the biomedical model are long standing theories that describe how an
individual s mental state affects their physical health. The biomedical model has been used in Western
medicine for a longer time compared to the biopsychosocial model. However, the biomedical model
health in a fashion that separates physical health and mental health. This model says that the two do
not interact with each other in any way that will affect illnesses. The biopsychosocial model connects
physical and mental health saying that they do have an effect on each other. Poor physical health can
lead to poor mental health, and vice versa. This paper will describe what each of the models are, how
they are used in today s medicine field, as well as compare and contrast the models to each other. The

The biopsychosocial model has become more accepted in recent years as physicians and psychologists
have discovered how environmental factors influence health. While both are scientific models, the
biomedical model is more focused on developing new medicines and cures to treat illnesses while the
biopsychosocial focuses on better ways to properly diagnose patients (Engel, 1980). In this way, the
models interact with each other. The biomedical model will discover the biological issues that can be
cured, which allows the bipsychosocial model to properly diagnose individuals and give them the
correct treatments. While the biomedical model and the biopsychosocial model have their differences,
they are both accepted by today s society. The biomedical model does not include factors other than
biological ones, while the biopsychosocial model does include them. They both involve science, but
the biomedical model is more treatment based, and the biopsychosocial model is based on diagnosing
patients. Physicians and psychologists may use both models to properly diagnose their patients and

Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural
Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the unknown
and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy then go to
something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive to dead, which
could be a supernatural element. Also because change will create fear for the reader. Here s a quote
that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game changed. (Lalah
Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it will kick in that it s not
real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts for example. We read the
story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair
being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows
how a character may have been doing something then suddenly here s something then or scared or
startled. Another example would be possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was
possessed. During the movie it says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps
(William the exorcist ). Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a
different type of fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens.
Something goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing
could happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared.
Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is There
a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp, dampening dusk
the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room table and the father
appeared covertly out the window (Oates pg69). Being unsure of what a strangers doing at your house
makes you nervous and fearful he will do something to your family. There is then dreams. Have you
ever had a bad dream? Waking up in the middle of the night when you re young. Even getting a dream
catcher because you think it ll help stop bad

The Representation of Women, Men, and Sexuality in Music...
OVERVIEW
In this second update of 1991 s groundbreaking Dreamworlds, Sut Jhally critically examines the
representation of women, men, and sexuality in music videos. Jhally s primary argument is that music
videos, not unlike other forms of advertising and popular culture, represent the pornographic
imagination by offering a degraded and limited view of female sexuality based on narrowly defined
adolescent heterosexual male fantasies. Locating the stories and images of music video in a wider
context, the film explores how American popular culture, more generally, encourages and excuses
men s violence against women, and argues that we need a wider range of stories about femininity,
masculinity, and sexuality.
Special Note: This video ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6. Market research drives a lot of what appears in music videos. This means that much of what you see
is designed to sell something whether it is specific products, ideas, or attitudes. Other than CDs,
downloads, concert tickets, or band merchandise, what do you think music videos are designed to sell?
7. How does what Jhally defines as the Dreamworld of music video differ from or echo the
dreamworlds of other advertising genres?
ASSIGNMENTS
1. Cut out 3 or 4 magazine ads that feature pictures of men and women. Tape your ads to the walls of
the classroom and then walk around and look at what everyone else brought in. Participate in a group
discussion on any patterns you detect. What consistent stories about gender are told in these ads? How
do these images compare to the images in music videos? 2. Interview other students about their use of
music videos. Do they enjoy them? How often do they watch? What do they think of the images used?
What do they think of how men and women are depicted? Do they think their own ideas about gender
and sexuality have been influenced by music videos and other media? Many people will say no to this
last question. If they do, follow up by asking them to explain their answer and where they think their
ideas about gender and sex come from. Also, ask them if they think their friends are influenced. Take
notes, and write a summary of the results of your interviews. Be prepared to discuss your findings

Modification Of Host Behavior By Parasites
Modification of Host Behavior by Parasites Two fundamental principals are capable of explaining the
entire field of biology and it can be said that every living organism operates by these two principals.
Whether it be the most basic single celled prokaryotes who dwell in the boiling hot waters of
hydrothermal vents or the most highly evolved of the animal kingdom, Homo sapiens, whose brain is
so complex that it seems to exist almost as a microcosm of our own universe, all are driven by the
same two motivations. First, and by far the most important, is sex. Everything must have sex.
Reproduction, whether sexual or asexual, and procreation are the highest priorities of any organism
and the continued existence of life on this Earth depends upon on this achievement. Secondly, and
significantly less important than reproduction is survival. It may seem humorous to entertain the idea
that a sexual (or asexual) experience could possibly be of greater concern to an organism than the
preservation of its own life, but it is not entirely absurd. Only completion of the former allows for a
species, and essentially life as a whole, to progress and evolve, while completion of the latter does not.
Survival without reproduction has no purpose. Indeed, it could be argued that longevity serves the
only purpose of facilitating the occurrence of more reproductive opportunities before the inevitable
death of the organism. As every organism contained within the millions and millions of

Compare and contrast tumour suppressor genes and proto oncogenes. Discuss an example of how
recent advances in our understanding of these genes have led to the development of a novel therapy
that is being used in the treatment of human cancer.
Cancer known in medicine as a malignant neoplasm is one of the biggest killers worldwide. In 2007,
cancer caused roughly 13% (7.9 million) of the planet s deaths (Jemal, 2011). This will more greatly
affect an aging society such as ours in years to come, and yet it is already the foremost cause of death
in the developed world. The main reason cancer causes so many fatalities the body s inability to

Mutations (for most cancers) must appear in both tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes for
cancers to form. The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one
another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a
controlled manner (Sherr, 2004).
Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such as
lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity of their
RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the replication of
the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was an oncogene. When
oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd R, 1999). Their normal
function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth signalling pathways, and conversely
to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in function rather than a loss of it. This occurs
in two ways, by producing more of a product, or producing a subtly different product, as a result of a
mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes (Croce, 2008). Oncogenes play a particularly strong role
in the development of breast cancers. Often the normal ERBB2 and other related genes are amplified
in late stage neuroblastomas and rhabdomyosarcomas. ERBB2 encodes HER2 which is a member of
the epidermal growth factor

Key Features Religious Practices of Chinese Popular Religions The main Chinese religions have many
key features. The main religions include shamanism/ancestor reverence, Confucianism, Daoism,
Mahayana Buddhism, and idol worship. These 5 religions share some features in common. For
example, Chinese popular religion focuses on the human being s pursuit of health, wealth, and
happiness in their lives (quote the textbook). Chinese popular religions want the human to be doing
well and succeeding in their day to day activities of their lives. Another key component of the main
Chinese religions is respecting one s elders. The religions teach the importance of obeying the
commands of the elders and honoring the family name. The Chinese allow place a strong emphasis on
the temple. The temple is a place where the people could communicate, understand, and learn about
their gods (quote the textbook). The next subsections will be describing the key religious practices of
each of the 5 Chinese religions.
Shamanism/Ancestor Reverence Shamanism and ancestor reverence are key religions of the Chinese.
Shamans are spiritual healers who call on spirits while they are dreaming to relieve an individual from

the Chinese community and are respected for the tremendous healing power they have on others.

Coyote Omnivore
The Coyote, part of the biological family of canidae, look appears in between a wolf and fox, and is an
opportunistic omnivore predator and scavenger that it s native in North America. Coyote are highly
adaptable species, even when it moves into human occupied territory. They adjust their hunting
techniques to whatever prey they laid its eye onto. For hunting smaller prey alone, they usually stalk
behind the prey and pounce onto them; for bigger prey such as deer, they hunt in small packs and take
down the prey as one. Because of their ability of adapting most habitats, like deserts, plains, and
grasslands, they can spread their habitat range all across the continent, even in large cities in urban
area (Baker Bonine 2015). Originating in the west of North America, the coyote spread eastward into
Ontario, and continue move forwards to Quebec and other eastern provinces (Dumancic Caverley,

Meaning In Art
The meaning of a unadorned sculpture that one passes by on a routine bases, can end up having a
much more monumental and deep meaning than what an individual may have discerned. Untitled is
just one example of the multiple pieces of artwork that stands tall throughout the Lewis and Clark
Community College campus. A strong representation of many different feelings is given off to the
buildings, its surroundings, and the students and faculty that walk among it. Each physical
characteristic comes together to design the horse and can be analyzed to have meanings like
recognition, nobility, and guidance. Outside Trimpe Hall on Lewis and Clark Community College
campus sits a majestic, light brown, wood colored figure. It is placed directly on the ground, along the
side of a little stone pathway. Little patches of grass are peeking up through the mulch. The shape of
the statue resembles that of a horse. As you move closer to the artwork you notice pieces of logs are
carved in a perfect way in order to intertwine between each other leaving just the right amount of
spaces in between. The front end, which faces the parking lot, is slightly facing downwards, as if it
were avoiding something in the distance. The horse has a strong stance with a sturdy body structure.

How Did Columbus Change America
Christopher Columbus, an experienced seafarer, left landmark achievements in various destinations he
set foot in. He made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain and he mistakenly thought there
was a quicker route to Asia. It turned out he landed on two unknown continents (Jane, pg.6). In the
event of making journeys, he accidentally came across to natives where he taught the spirit of
exploration injecting a great deal in America s global economy. The journey started at the beginning of
different acts like colonization.
Landing of Columbus in America shaped up the living standards of the natives from the former states
to improved measures powered by the spirit of exploration. Columbus changed the world by
introducing the land hungry Europeans to America who reshaped Mexico, Canada, and many other
Caribbean nations through exploration and use of natural resources (Mckay, pg.471). It improved the

Alice In Wonderland Power
This essay will consider Lewis Carroll s presentation of Alice in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland,
specifically within the Pig and Pepper chapter. Alice wishes to master the unfamiliar world of
Wonderland, in much the same way as Victorian Britain gained global power through colonization. In
this essay, I will argue that Carroll uses Alice s role as Victorian representative to criticise this
dominant global position Britain held during its imperial century . Alice initially perceives
Wonderland as a world that she can overpower and benefit from, much as imperialist Britain benefited
from its territories resources. She does not succeed, however, and by the end of both the chapter and
overall narrative, finds that compliant interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of learning from other cultures, rather than maintaining imperialistic superiority by
holding Victorian England above the rest, is communicated. This is indicated through Alice s
transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the
infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of
expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially
projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the
infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the
baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of
doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up
into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing
itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland
child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. Consequently, Alice
learns she cannot simply project her own culture onto Wonderland, and must instead operate with
more open mindedness regarding differing

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature
Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points out
that with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure to find
new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In other
words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging,
as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and
literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars feel the urge to
identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so called New Literatures
in English represented by the works of, say, Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Kamila Shamsie, Michael
Ondaatje, or Joy Nozomi Kogawa or recently through Anime with its heavy borrowing of motifs from
western canonised literature and its gradual popularity as an emerging form of literary creativity.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, anime is a style of animation originating in Japan that is
characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action filled plots often with
fantastic or futuristic themes. While Oxford Dictionary dictates anime as A style of Japanese film and

Standards For Financial Decision Making
Abstract. The article reviewed was Standards for Financial Decision Making: Legal, Ethical, and
Practical Issues. The key of the abstract is to emphasize the existence of standards and statutory
mechanisms for financial decision making. The article is based on standards of the National
Guardianship Association (NGA) (p. 1275).
Introduction. The authors study the meaning of term standard . Some dictionaries determine the term
standard as a model of acceptance, others as a measuring criterion. If entities do not operate under the
established standards, they face with sanctions for ethical violations and professional negligence. The
authors analyzes principles and guidance of NGA standards, and frequent mistakes when making
financial decisions. The main objective of the study is to analyze conflicting issues of financial
decision making, guardianship problems, and adoption of NGA standards (pp. 1275 1276). The study
is important because it demonstrates practical approaches of applying standards to the common
financial decisions. The authors consider two problems: the impact of fiduciary duties on decision
making standards, and the acceptance of model behavior by guardians of business.
Literature Review. The authors use a systematic review of literature in the research. The literature
review is categorized into three parts: general principles of decision making, the role of guardian and
conservator in decision making, the relationships between fiduciary duties and

Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of

It aims to ensure that human needs for safe and efficient working are met in the design of work system

The efficiency of operation includes the widest senses of achieving the desired results without
wasteful input, without error and without damage to the person involved or to others. It is inefficient
to expend unnecessary energy or time because insufficient thought has been given to the design of the
work, the workspace, the working environment and the working conditions. It is not efficient to

aims. The human operator is flexible and adaptable and there is continuous learning but there are quite

If schools could automatically have more safety, a stronger sense of unity within students, and higher
self esteem for every individual student at a minimal cost without transgressing any laws, or stepping
over students rights it is doubtful that many would turn up their nose to all of these things. There is no
difference between this situation and the benefits that school dress codes would provide. While the
majority of public schools do not require uniforms, the ones that do report it as a large success (School

Students who do not wear certain brands do not feel left out, and everyone feels like they belong, so
school uniforms should be mandatory.
Secondly, nearly every student has had mornings in which they take an extended amount of time
debating what to wear. Why is this? Students want to wear what is in to avoid judgment. This is just
one of countless examples of how lower self esteem is associated with no uniforms. One survey in
Nevada stated that fifty four percent of students wearing uniforms either Agreed or Strongly agreed
that they still have their identities when wearing uniforms (Riley 3). School uniforms give students a
higher self esteem. In class, students are less focused on what they are wearing and if they will blend
in. By not feeling pressured to dress a certain way, this contributes to students confidence. This gives
Teachers an environment easier to teach in, and students an easier environment to learn in (Daniels 3).
By giving students a higher self esteem, they become more alert during class, also creating an easier
environment to teach in. Multiple studies have shown that this reflects in students grades. Not only
would students feel better about themselves, but uniforms would reduce both stress and peer pressure
among students, which leads to higher esteem and school success. Next, it is a common argument in
the school uniforms debate that they supposedly go against the rights of students by

A Critique of the Behavioural Theories of Learning
A CRITIQUE OF THE BEHAVIOURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING One of the most debated
issues in psychology pertains to the nature and meaning of learning. The systematic study of learning
is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a scientific
manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted experiments to
understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to define and explain
how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were Ivan Pavlov and Edward

They found as reported by Myers D.G, that half a second works well. However if the food i.e. the
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then
conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law of
contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of UCS), the
stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to common sense
idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without presenting food, the
dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the conditioned response (CR) gets
weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets
weaker not because the organism no longer remembers the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker
because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery. After extinction trials, the dog will start to
salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing of UCS and CS. Pavlov called it spontaneous
recovery, where the weakened conditioned response reappeared after a rest pause. This according to
Pavlov occurred because extinction was suppressing the conditioned response and not eliminating it.

  • 2. Creating a High Speed Rail Line in Wisconsin Essay The people of Wisconsin who commute from Madison to Milwaukee and vice versa would find a High speed rail line useful for many reasons. Granted most people that commute from Madison to Milwaukee of vice versa aren t doing it every day. They are generally just doing it once in a while. The technology of high speed rails is relatively simple; it consists of magnetic tracks repelling the train with a polar opposite magnet on the bottom. This creates a surface with little friction; therefore the train can go faster. A lot of factors come into play when the state thinks of funding this. Governor Walker rejected the funds and cancelled the project in 2010, but there are people that sill have hope. The cost of operation is in the millions per ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The states of Ohio and Wisconsin were given about $1.2 billion, but they both passed the grants up. The funds were reallocated to other states ( Wisconsin and Ohio ). For many the hope for high speed rail in the near future in Wisconsin has diminished because of Governor Walker rejected the funds, but Minnesota never stopped planning. Governor walker would have liked to spend the money on other things such as highway systems for the state and other infrastructure. After Wisconsin governor Scott Walker cancelled the funds for the high speed rail program, Minnesota continued planning. They currently are still planning a line from Milwaukee to Minneapolis that would run about 110 mph. Consequentially, it doesn t run through Madison. The route is called the Empire Builder and the state of Minnesota plans to upgrade the line (Ryan). This line wouldn t help commuters between Madison and Milwaukee, but it would make an easy trip from Milwaukee to the Twin Cities. The state of Wisconsin plans to pay around $57,000 of the planning for the line. That is about half, and the plan should be drawn up by the summer of 2014 (Ryan). High speed rail will modernize Wisconsin and America if implemented. If American wants to stay a modernized country and stay ahead of the others they would need to stay ahead of the technology that is not the case with high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Limbic System Research Paper Yet we judge people by their appearances all the time, said David Perrett. When you find another person attractive it is your human instinct to find a mate. Women look for strong but gentle fathers for their child and men look for gentle birthing mothers for their children. This is the scientific reasoning behind composite faces. Composite faces are a mixture of the attractive features that your brain sees and understands it as beautiful. It is believed that the human brain s occipital lobe and limbic system are responsible for the desire and feeling of attractiveness toward faces. (Perrett) To understand the way we see composite faces, the brains relevance to sight must be understood as well. The part of the brain that is responsible for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why do people find others attractive? This is a question that has been asked since the human species started taking pride in their appearance. Women and men look for very different qualities. Where a man may look for a small nose and full lips, a women will look for a defined jawline and raised brow line. A female s interest in a male may differ depending on what type of person they wish to be with. If they want a strong masculine man they may want a temporary relationship, while they may look for a gentle looking male for a long term interaction. In the United States of America all but two states have governmental units known as counties or parishes. County government is primarily a way of governing rural areas, because Texas is so vast, with huge areas that are sparsely populated, county government remains an important aspect of local government. • 8. The Case Of Bp Oil Spill about the dangers of oil and how to clean it up in case it were to get released into the wild. Mitigation is the actions to reduce or eliminate the risks to people and property from such hazards and their effects (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition of mitigation seems to say that, when dealing with risks, they want to greatly reduce any dangers that might come with each risk, and want to save as many lives or property from severe damage or in some cases death. In the case of the BP oil spill, one mitigation would be so that no oil would get out and affect the ocean or marine life. Most oil rigs come with safety standards or protocols in order to mitigate any dangers it might have, to keep the marine life safe, and the safety of the workers on the oil rig. Here the lessons learned could apply to the BP oil spill to make sure it didn t happen in the first place. In fact, the disaster could have been prevented through proper training, education, and exercises (Haddow et al, 2014). Here we can see that the BP oil spill could have been prevented if the right precautions were put in place and had the people running the oil rig had proper training on how to handle an emergency if it were to occur on their watch. The disaster could also have been prevented through a series of preparedness. Preparedness is the capacity to respond to a disaster, crisis, or any other type of emergency situation (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition seems to say that, when we use preparedness, it ... • 18. Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the unknown and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy then go to something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive to dead, which could be a supernatural element. Also because change will create fear for the reader. Here s a quote that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game changed. (Lalah Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it will kick in that it s not real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts for example. We read the story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows how a character may have been doing something then suddenly here s something then or scared or startled. Another example would be possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was possessed. During the movie it says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps (William the exorcist ). Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a different type of fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens. Something goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing could happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared. Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is There a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp, dampening dusk the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room table and the father appeared covertly out the window (Oates pg69). Being unsure of what a strangers doing at your house makes you nervous and fearful he will do something to your family. There is then dreams. Have you ever had a bad dream? Modification Of Host Behavior By Parasites Modification of Host Behavior by Parasites Two fundamental principals are capable of explaining the entire field of biology and it can be said that every living organism operates by these two principals. Whether it be the most basic single celled prokaryotes who dwell in the boiling hot waters of hydrothermal vents or the most highly evolved of the animal kingdom, Homo sapiens, whose brain is so complex that it seems to exist almost as a microcosm of our own universe, all are driven by the same two motivations. First, and by far the most important, is sex. Everything must have sex. Reproduction, whether sexual or asexual, and procreation are the highest priorities of any organism and the continued existence of life on this Earth depends upon on this achievement. Secondly, and significantly less important than reproduction is survival. It may seem humorous to entertain the idea that a sexual (or asexual) experience could possibly be of greater concern to an organism than the preservation of its own life, but it is not entirely absurd. Only completion of the former allows for a species, and essentially life as a whole, to progress and evolve, while completion of the latter does not. Survival without reproduction has no purpose. Indeed, it could be argued that longevity serves the only purpose of facilitating the occurrence of more reproductive opportunities before the inevitable death of the organism. The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a controlled manner (Sherr, 2004). Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such as lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity of their RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the replication of the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was an oncogene. When oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd R, 1999). Their normal function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth signalling pathways, and conversely to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in function rather than a loss of it. This occurs in two ways, by producing more of a product, or producing a subtly different product, as a result of a mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes (Croce, 2008). The same irresponsibility is present in Odysseus when he allows his crew to eat the bulk of the food of an unknown host. Odysseus and the crew eat the food behind Polyphemus s back, already disregarding the consequences. A disregard for consequences shows irresponsibility. Meaning In Art The meaning of a unadorned sculpture that one passes by on a routine bases, can end up having a much more monumental and deep meaning than what an individual may have discerned. Untitled is just one example of the multiple pieces of artwork that stands tall throughout the Lewis and Clark Community College campus. A strong representation of many different feelings is given off to the buildings, its surroundings, and the students and faculty that walk among it. Each physical characteristic comes together to design the horse and can be analyzed to have meanings like recognition, nobility, and guidance. Outside Trimpe Hall on Lewis and Clark Community College campus sits a majestic, light brown, wood colored figure. It is placed directly on the ground, along the side of a little stone pathway. Little patches of grass are peeking up through the mulch. The shape of the statue resembles that of a horse. As you move closer to the artwork you notice pieces of logs are carved in a perfect way in order to intertwine between each other leaving just the right amount of spaces in between. The front end, which faces the parking lot, is slightly facing downwards, as if it were avoiding something in the distance. The horse has a strong stance with a sturdy body structure. Each of these short stories is about multicultural characters having trouble finding how they belong in their communities and cultures. Unlike people who live in their mother country or come from one specific race, multiracial people have to figure out how to balance the culture of where they live and the culture of their ancestors. • 31. Alice In Wonderland Power This essay will consider Lewis Carroll s presentation of Alice in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, specifically within the Pig and Pepper chapter. Alice wishes to master the unfamiliar world of Wonderland, in much the same way as Victorian Britain gained global power through colonization. In this essay, I will argue that Carroll uses Alice s role as Victorian representative to criticise this dominant global position Britain held during its imperial century . Alice initially perceives Wonderland as a world that she can overpower and benefit from, much as imperialist Britain benefited from its territories resources. She does not succeed, however, and by the end of both the chapter and overall narrative, finds that compliant interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The importance of learning from other cultures, rather than maintaining imperialistic superiority by holding Victorian England above the rest, is communicated. This is indicated through Alice s transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. Consequently, Alice learns she cannot simply project her own culture onto Wonderland, and must instead operate with more open mindedness regarding differing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points out that with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure to find new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In other words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging, as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars feel the urge to identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so called New Literatures in English represented by the works of, say, Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Kamila Shamsie, Michael Ondaatje, or Joy Nozomi Kogawa or recently through Anime with its heavy borrowing of motifs from western canonised literature and its gradual popularity as an emerging form of literary creativity. Secondly, nearly every student has had mornings in which they take an extended amount of time debating what to wear. Why is this? Students want to wear what is in to avoid judgment. This is just one of countless examples of how lower self esteem is associated with no uniforms. One survey in Nevada stated that fifty four percent of students wearing uniforms either Agreed or Strongly agreed that they still have their identities when wearing uniforms (Riley 3). School uniforms give students a higher self esteem. In class, students are less focused on what they are wearing and if they will blend in. By not feeling pressured to dress a certain way, this contributes to students confidence. This gives Teachers an environment easier to teach in, and students an easier environment to learn in (Daniels 3). By giving students a higher self esteem, they become more alert during class, also creating an easier environment to teach in. Multiple studies have shown that this reflects in students grades. Not only would students feel better about themselves, but uniforms would reduce both stress and peer pressure among students, which leads to higher esteem and school success. A Critique of the Behavioural Theories of Learning A CRITIQUE OF THE BEHAVIOURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING One of the most debated issues in psychology pertains to the nature and meaning of learning. The systematic study of learning is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a scientific manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted experiments to understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to define and explain how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were Ivan Pavlov and Edward Thorndike. Among later researchers, B. F. However if the food i.e. the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law of contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of UCS), the stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to common sense idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without presenting food, the dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the conditioned response (CR) gets weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets weaker not because the organism no longer remembers the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery. After extinction trials, the dog will start to salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing of UCS and CS.
