Fairness In The Ulstimatum Game Paradigm
In what is known as the ultimatum game paradigm, people have an opportunity to split a pie of money
between themselves and another player as they see fit. However, if the other player rejects the offer,
no player wins anything. If both players were perfectly rational and did not incorporate fairness
considerations into their decisions, then those making offers would always offer $1 while keeping the
rest and those receiving offers would always accept the offer since winning $1 is better than $0.
However, people often reject offers where they receive less than 20% of the pie because they perceive
the offers to be unfair. Essentially, they derive more utility from denying the proposer s allocation than
they would have if the proposed allocation went through. Even though they have complete outcome
control, dictators typically do not take all the money available in the pie despite having the option to
do so.
A real world analogue to a dictator game is pay what you want pricing. The concept behind pay what

We tend to activate parts of the brain associated with negative emotion when considering unfair offers.
Cross cultural studies suggest that fairness is an important consideration in every society that has been
tested, though its strength may vary across cultures. Even monkeys tend to respond to unfairness by
refusing to work for rewards. Pay differentials play a key role in dictating organization level
outcomes. Companies with more pay equity tend to produce better products than ones with pay
inequity. Major league baseball teams with more pay equity tend to perform better than those with pay
inequity. The gap between CEO pay and the pay of the average executive is negatively correlated with
performance. Pay differentials have important consequences because we use others outcomes as
reference points to help us determine the acceptability of our own

Root Cause Analysis In Healthcare Organization
A root cause analysis (RCA), an organized protocol or procedure, institutes a means of analyzing a
sentinel or adverse event that occurs within a healthcare facility, ultimately uncovering causes of
problems or errors. U.S. hospitals are required to keep confidential records within the facility of
adverse reactions, yet RCAs are mandated to accompany a reported sentinel event to the accreditation
organization, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and other
organizations (AHRQ 2014). Various members from all aspects of the hospital form a
multidisciplinary team to analyze, evaluate, and resolve errors with the goal of prevention of future
adverse, sentinel events. A RCA allows for concentration on events and underlying problems that
contributed to the incident rather than focusing on individual actions and behaviors (AHRQ 2012).

Right To Bear Arms Justified
How is owning a gun justified? By the second amendment, the right to bear arms is granted to the 318
million people currently living in the United States of America. It justifies the ownership of a gun
without directly justifying it. The initial understanding of this amendment by the majority of the U.S.
is that every person (under the right circumstance) has the right to have a gun in their possession.
Although this meaning has been the inherited mindset of most ideas concerning the matter, the
controversial conflicts arising around the existence of this amendment represent the true depth of it s
meaning and how it stands for much more than just the right to own a gun.
In correspondence with the debates on how valid the second amendment ... Show more content on

The United States has been and continues to be a strong, democratic country, but the importance of the
second amendment resides with the precaution that an unprincipled mind may come into power. It
represents security from an unjust power that could eventually come to leadership in the many future
years of the U.S.A. It gives the people something that they can yield extra strength with against the
corrupt side. The citizens are able to fight back or at least defend themselves in the situation that they
would need to do so. It gives them the opportunity to take additional precaution. In this way, the
second amendment stands for how the rules in this state remain honest to America s power and how it
truly resides with its people. It represents America s kept promise of democracy and how it acts as a
government that is for the people and by the people. This amendment shows that the United States is a
country that will act in truth to its claims and how the democracy of its state will favor the the

The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, the first game in the series, was released for the Super
Nintendo Entertainment System during 1992 and 1993 and later re released for the Game Boy
Advance in 2002. In six different levels and with four different special power outfits it features
Mickey Mouse on his journey to find his dog Pluto.[7] The game, and especially its outfit system and
graphics, received mostly positive reviews. It was criticized, however, for being relatively short. A
port for Sega Mega Drive was originally planned, but was abandoned.[8]
Story
Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Goofy and Donald Duck are playing catch in the park. When it is Goofy s turn
to throw the ball, he accidentally throws it too far. Pluto runs off chasing the ball and Goofy runs after
Pluto, leaving Mickey alone.[9] Mickey goes searching for his friends after a while, but falls down a
cliff into a strange magical land. Later, Mickey meets an old wizard who tells Mickey that Pluto was
taken by the evil king Pete.

Application Of Identification For Biometrics
In order for biometrics to work, there must be a database of information containing substantial
information on each individual. By nature, biometric systems collect more information than just the
users fingerprints, retinal patterns or other biometric data. An individual who uses a fingerprint contact
system allows government agencies and local law enforcement access to their every move. Most
systems will record the whereabouts of an individual at the time of scan. Organizations will have the
ability to anticipate the actions of an individual, and the loss of privacy will grow tremendously. Cross
trading of an individual s personal data will increase, as an organization will have the attainability to
share data in the market. If biometric details such as your fingerprints are compromised, it is not going
to be possible to provide you with a new scan right away. Pam Dixon s honey pot analogy has some
truth, but in the end law breakers will be held accountable for their actions. Individuals on probation
or parole already have to report their whereabouts to a law official. However, the common citizen is
placed under surveillance and constant security breaches that could ruin their credit, reputation and
lives. For those who have overcome their past mistakes in the judicial system, they will be constantly
criticize and monitored for their personal consumer purchases. No technology is perfect, any loss of
data, hackers or terrorist threats to the database would cause a

The Government And State Government
In understanding the way governments works on a local level, we must first understand that national
government and state government are not the same. The United States uses a system called Federalism
which is a decentralization of the responsibilities of the government. In other words, power is divided
amongst the national and subnational governments all while maintaining a separate and autonomous
authority (Dye Macmanus 56). The purpose for this system is to make sure the national government
doesn t turn into a tyrannical power over the people. This ideology of separation of powers goes even
deeper within the national government and state governments infrastructure. For example, the national
government is divided into 3 main branches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each state is governed by these two chambers in their respective state. Due to the autonomy of each
state in the union, services provided and positions on critical issues may vary across states. Moreover,
there is the cultural aspect within each state that plays an influential role in how each state is
governed.
The state of Florida follows the same infrastructure as the national government as far as legislature.
Florida has its own constitution and its legislature is comprised of the two chambers mentioned earlier,
which are the senate and the House of Representatives. Not all states have both chambers and what s
called a bicameral legislature. Nebraska has only one chamber, and thus considered to have a
unicameral legislature. Florida Senate chamber has 40 senators with Joe Negron as president of the
senate. These senators must live in the district of which they serve in. The house of representatives has
120 Representatives with Richard Corcoran as the Speaker of the house. Both chambers are made up
of democratic and republican members.
States such as Florida also has elections which are held for political positions not only in legislature,
but also positions such as Governor. In Florida, the governor is Rick Scott and he is the 45th governor
of Florida. The qualifications to be elected as Florida Governor is you must be no younger than 30

The Employment Status Of Workers Essay
INTRODUCTION
It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as it is
wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment, atypical
workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required workers and
homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal certainty in relation to
this area of the law.
This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment Rights
Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA 1996,
employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation; that there is
a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does not adequately
deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK Parliament on the
interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a conclusion for the arguments
put forth.
THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have interpreted
the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of workers under
section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section 230(3) ERA 1996,
worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract of employment, or any
other contract express or implied... to do

Advent of Industrialization Essay
The advent of industrialization in the early nineteenth century had wide reaching impacts on
economics, politics, society and demographics. The transition from an agrarian and feudal system of
production to an industrial and capitalistic system brought about many changes to the lives of
Europeans. Some of these changes include gender issues, immigration, medicine, the rise of liberal
and socialist politics, and the rise of some famous political movements. In the following essay I will
expand upon some of the many ramifications that industrialization brought to fruition.
Before the advent of industrialization much of European production was focused on agriculture for
practical reasons. A nation must produce enough food to feed its ... Show more content on

The price of beef, tea and sugar had also come down, allowing many middle class families to enjoy
these luxuries in their diet.
The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working class
was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary. Many
working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing, and
their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the filth from chamber
pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the lack of sanitation.
Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and sugar, the working class
was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary vitamins and minerals would
have put them at a much higher risk for disease and malnutrition.
The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as
liberalism. The liberal movement in thought, politics, and social constructs can be seen in popular
political movements of the mid nineteenth century. The Charter Movement in Great Britain can be
seen as an example of the liberal democratic movements. Chartism sought to obtain universal male
suffrage, secret balloting, removal of a land owning requirement for

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co ed school. The different types of high
schools do not only effect the 9 12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor
noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her
teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to
ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other
questions before asking the teacher, said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school. Many co ed
schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to
behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex
schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex
students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all
schools. It s complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size,
environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for
their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the
habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at
universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show differently in all students at the
start of college. The same goes for co ed graduating

Irony In Harrison Bergeron
Harrison Bergeron is a short story that takes place in a dystopian society where everyone has equal
mental and physical capabilities forced on them by the government. In this short story, Harrison
Bergeron supposedly plays a big role in society by being the savior, but his goal to protest against the
handicapper general and try and save the society from being handicapped ultimately did not work out
in his favor. Harrison symbolizes a savior figure who intends to take down a totalitarian government
but fails, which provides the ultimate irony of the story

How to Read a Roman Portrait SHELDON NODELMAN from E. D Ambra, ed., Roman Art in

often an ideogram of public meanings condensed into the image of a human face. Roman portrait
sculpture from the Republic through the late Empire the second century BCE. to the sixth CE
constitutes what is surely the most remarkable body of portrait art ever created. Its shifting montage of
abstractions from human appearance and character forms a language in which the history of a whole

of their subjects. These are men in later life because the carefully prescribed ladder of public office

Compare And Contrast Descartes And Pyrrhonian Skepticism
Pyrrhonian skeptics and Descartes s response to skepticism are two interesting reads that make one
curious. Pyrrhonian skepticism has a goal which is the suspension of judgment and tranquility, while
Descartes brings reason and doubt to the senses about what one perceives and feels. This essay will
inform about the Pyrrhonian skeptic and the response Decartes has to the skeptic views.
There are two philosophers, Phyrrho and Sextus Empiricus. Phyrrho lived around 360 270 BCE in his
hometown of Ellis, a Greek city state. He traveled with Alexander the Great on the latter s expedition
to the East, India (Woodcock, B.A., 2017). It is speculated that his exposure to Indian naked wise men

The Academics were criticized because in asserting that doctrine it seemed to be making a claim to
know something, contrary to the central claim of not knowing anything, they know that they don t
know . Pyrrhonian skepticism treat Pyrrhonism as a way of life rather than a doctrine. This way of life
is characterized by a suspension of judgment about questions that go beyond the way things appear.
They believe that they are searches and their disposition is that not one thing over the other is
necessarily correct. This causes them to withhold their suspense of judgment. They firmly believe that
there is no true way of knowing whether something is right or wrong, they keep searching for the
truth, and that people ought to live with the current traditions, laws, and customs of their time they live
in. The end goal of the Pyrrhonian skeptic is to promote suspense of judgment because they claim that
it is in our opinion and personal truths that we develop desires, painful efforts, good and bad, fear, and
disappointment. To accept everything as is, will bring bliss and peace of mind. The Pyrrhonian skeptic
views skepticism as a good thing for they have the skill of finding for every argument and equal and

How Women Are Treated in India
In many parts of the world females still have very little rights. Indeed, equality between men and
women have been accepted by the majority of the developed countries, but developing countries still
struggle to see women as equals to men, and India is one of the worst. Currently, the Indian National
Congress Party is only 10% female, limiting the say women get. In India, women are definitely not
seen as equals to men are being treated like second rate citizens. It also really says something about
the inequality in a country when its women are so used to being treated badly most of them do not
even recognize that they have rights. In India, men were always valued more than women, which is
why an estimated ten million female foetuses are aborted every year. The lack of females in areas
leads to crimes like human trafficking for sexual reasons like giving birth to more children. Old
traditions and beliefs are the main reasons to why millions of female foetuses are aborted every year,
but it is also the reason behind bride burning, another serious issue in India.
Bride burning, also known as dowry death occurs quite frequently in India. It is when the husband or
the in laws decide that the dowry the bride offers is not enough and demands more. If the bride refuses
or is financially not able to increase her dowry, she is tortured until she either agrees or dies; otherwise
she is murdered by her family . The husbands and the in laws usually disguise the deaths as accidents

Trade Embargo Dbq
From 1790s to the early 1800s, the United States resisted going to war and tried desperately to
maintain peace and freedom in the seas. However, this mission was impossible to do because of the
ongoing war between France and Great Britain, which were both guilty of blocking American
shipments to prevent from docking in enemy ports. President Thomas Jefferson passed the 1807 Trade
Embargo Act. History books often dismiss the Trade Embargo as a complete failure: it did not
influence France or Great Britain and only the Americans suffered the most, making it a disaster for
the United States (Remini 75) and a political and economic nightmare for Jefferson (Olson and
Mendoza 188). However, in two separate articles, Frankel and Irwin demonstrated, ... Show more

Britain was becoming more and more aggressive in blocking ships by neutral countries, especially by
the United States. The British army was constantly patrolling the eastern U.S. coast and intercepted
American vessels, conducted searches, and confiscated cargo, properties, and even ships and sailors
on a regular basis. In line with this, Jefferson only had two choices: to wage war against Britain and
force it to respect American shipping or to implement an embargo to safeguard American ships and
properties and inflict economic penalty against Britain (Irwin 632). It was an easy choice. Simply
waging a war was the last thing that the U.S. government would have done during this time. In its
earliest years, the United States had always been elusive to go to war. Likewise, in comparing these
two choices, implementing an embargo was the better choice. Declaring war against the Great Britain
could have brought much greater damage to the United States than what the embargo had caused.
Thus, evading a war against the Great Britain during this period should be considered as among the
positive impacts of the Trade Embargo of

that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when
portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece.
For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines
autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The
first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is
society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have
been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. I
realized writing a poem was a good way to portray to her that no matter what anyone says she is
always going to be beautiful. I was able to write my own experience because there is no better way to
explain something than through one s own examples. This advice coming from an older sister is ...

In my own piece I decided to use my own experience from when I was younger to explain to my little
sister that no matter what society says she is beautiful the way she is. As I read the third stanza in
Clifton s work she used the word imagined multiple times to portray what a kid with autism is feeling
or doing as they see people or hear words. I felt that the word change was a great way to portray raw
emotion in my piece. I used the dashes before the word to exaggerate the change that society was
yelling in my head. Finally, the last change comes, but it is modified to changed. I used the word
changed to evoke emotion because I had finally given into society and what society sketched as

Essay about Should Marijuana Be Legalized in the United...
The topic of legalizing recreational marijuana in the United States has been a very controversial one.
States such as Colorado and Washington have gone on the offensive and have legalized recreational
marijuana and have enjoyed the high revenues brought in from cannabis sale. On the other hand other
states have kept low profiles because they are wary of the possible negative outcomes of legalizing
recreational marijuana and are using the states of Colorado and Washington as guinea pigs to see what
their next course of action on this controversial topic should be. This is not only a highly debated topic
among politicians, but also by the people. According to a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center,

Meanwhile marijuana has not accounted for a single death in the United States. This has led many
teenagers to switch over to marijuana and by legalizing it the switch to a safer drug would continue
and it would also make it cheaper than other illicit drugs. This correlation can be seen by the statistics
provided by the NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse) 2011 study. About 25% of teens surveyed
said they tried marijuana at least once last year, a statistically significant rise of about 4% since 2007.
Additionally, 6.6% of 12th graders also admitted to smoking weed daily (Gwynne). The study has also
shown historic lows of use of alcohol and cigarettes since 1981.Over the past 20 years, from 1991 to
2011, the proportion of 8th graders reporting any use of alcohol in the prior 30 days has fallen by
about half (from 25% to 13%), among 10th graders by more than one third (from 43% to 27%), and
among 12th graders by about one fourth (from 54% to 40%), (Gwynne). As teenagers will always
continue to experiment with illegal substances, its best we influence them with the safest drug,
marijuana. This change is already happening as NIDA studies have shown teenager marijuana use at
historic highs and alcohol and cigarette use at historic lows, and will continue if marijuana is
perceived as safe and becomes cheaper with

Literary Elements In The Matrix
The Matrix is a well known blockbuster film which was released in the year 1999. Viewers commonly
it identify by the fascinating video effects as well as the unreal (yet real in the movie) acts performed
in the scenes. The idea which I aim to explore concerning the movie in this essay dwells on the usage
of cinematographic elements, the theme of fate as well as the stylistic use of literary elements.
The movie is well known for the advanced cinematographic effects and for a person who understands
film, the effects which are used in the film bring about a scientific as well as imaginary concept which
make the film fall under the genre of science fiction. Although most films are fiction, sci fi films are
quite intriguing because of the technologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

impacts of slavery in the caribbean
How did the African slavery impact the Caribbean region between1640 1985? Introduction When the
Europeans switched from tobacco to sugar cultivation, the plantation needed more lands and more
labour. The labour present came from the Tainos, whose population decreased from abuse, and could
not meet the labour demands. The Europeans brought free labourers from Europe, but they could not
be forced to work under the conditions demanded by the encomenderos. The church suggested the use
of enslaving Africans to replace the fast dying Taino population. The Africans faced tremendous
abuse. They were captured in tribal wars or raids on villages. The conditions of the middle passage
were deplorable. On arrival in the West Indies the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

were branded and chained two by two ,right leg and left leg, right hand and left hand. The stench

the excrements. Slaves suffered from infections from lying in dirt. Some died or were thrown
overboard. Ships sank or were lost in storms and slaves died. For example the George ship, lost 84
percent of the 594 slaves from the length of voyage and badness of weather. Slaves also rebelled, by

Use of Mrs. Tobins s DNA in the Murder of Amanda Christopher
Introduction:
DNA comparisons are crucial when investigating crimes. Amanda Christopher s home had a
significant amount of forensic evidence behind that has yet to be determined. The Supreme Court has
analyzed the issue as to whether or not use storing and using DNA was considered constitutional.
Although, Pennsylvania is silent on the issue, several states have seen the need for the use and storage
of DNA that is obtained of arrestees charged of serious crimes, such as felonies and sexual offenses.
Analyzing both the federal and other states provides some guidance as to whether or not the use of
previously obtained DNA is constitutional.
Questions Presented:
1. What is the standard for using previously obtained DNA from an unrelated arrest for a current
investigation?
Answer: Depends on the state. Few states allow the storage and use of an arrestee s DNA in certain
criminal proceedings. Most states, including Pennsylvania, limit the storage and use of DNA to those
who were convicted.
2. Can the police use DNA collected at the time of the arrest of Mrs. Tobin from the jewelry store
incident for comparison of the DNA found at Amanda Christopher s home? Answer: Maybe.

The War On Plastic Bags
The war on plastic bags is an intense and drawn out debate. It is obvious that the cons of plastic bag
usage outweigh the pros, yet our Earth is still being consumed by the infamous plastic bag. Many
people have voiced their opinions on whether or not plastic bags should be taxed, although the input
of their opinions does nothing but stir the pot since no one can reach a general consensus on how to
handle this increasing dispute. Consumer behavior also contributes to deciding upon the plastic bag
debate. Consumer s heavy dependence on these bags has a distinct impact on the environment and all
of Earths living things. Even though plastic bags can be recycled and reused, the immense overuse of
the bags and damage they cause to the environment are reasons for retail stores to implement a bag
tax.
Human s dependence on plastic bags have grown greatly in just the past couple of years. In 2013, 8.5
million tons of plastic bags were used and not properly recycled resulting in well over 8 million tons
of plastic bag waste. This amount of plastic bags used was expected to grow 10% within the 5 years
following 2013 which would result in 9.35 million tons of plastic bag usage and waste (Usage of
Plastic Bags and Health Hazards 1). The lack of recycling centers and people willing to recycle them
causes only 8% of all the plastic bags being discarded to be successfully recycled. In fact, 4.4 pounds
of plastic bags are not recycled each day, meaning they either make it into a land

Athletes Using Enhancement Drugs
Did you ever take banned substances to enhance your cycling performance? Lance Armstrong, seven
time Tour de France winner and cycling superstar responded, Yes ( Lance Armstrong and Oprah
Winfrey ). Lance Armstrong is just one of many professional athletes who doped to get ahead in
sports. Armstrong s guilty verdict exemplifies the efforts to punish athletes using performance
enhancing drugs. The increase in anti doping efforts is evident.
In the middle of the 20th century, a troublesome problem arose in the sports world: doping. In the
1960s, the first evidence that athletes were using performance enhancing drugs surfaced (Catlin, Fitch,
and Ljungqvist 104). Even though significant evidence prevailed that athletes used the drugs to
increase their athletic performance, there was no way to detect drug use. People did not know what to
think of the problem, but when a cyclist died at the 1960 Olympic Games from doping, sports
organizations started to take action (Catlin, Fitch, and Ljungqvist 100). Scientists went to work
looking for a way to detect performance enhancing drugs in athletes. It took several years before any
reliable drug testing methods came about. During the Fédération Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA) World Cup in 1966, the first drug test was performed (Hanstad, Smith, and
Waddington 229). In the following year, more sports organizations took a stance against drugs in
sports. Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the

Brunelleschi s Influence To The Renaissance
In 1418, the town fathers of Florence realized they had to face a major problem. Il Duomo, the
cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed in
1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The
cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a colossal
dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The only
obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as planned,
with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins, which was
more than a craftsman s two year wage at the time.

His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art.
This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and other
artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence
Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome.
This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty
that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These rules
helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom. Brunelleschi s
creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This revolutionary
technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where math and the arts
were inseparably intertwined. Brunelleschi s construction of the dome of Il Duomo clearly shaped the
Renaissance by raising the status of artists and architects, reviving the classical style and creating a

Asymmetry In Crabs
On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a secondary
characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its environment
(McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among bilateral characters
in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The decapod crab Ranina
ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and the segments comprising
its pereiopods. Asymmetry in crabs has been a subject of interest among evolutionary biologist as it

Asymmetry in decapods has been a focus of an on and off interest as observed by Oppenheimer
(1974) in McLaughlin, et al.,(2004) among carcinologist as decapod asymmetry has been a focus of
importance for nearly a century (Przibram 1905; Emmel 1908), then interest plummeted and risen
again. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been observed among
Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering this character to be
sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace, these structure provides
adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina abdomen unique among crab
species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs, abdomen are folded towards the ventral
aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a
tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also participates in the digging activity of the crab
(Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of
shells they are inhabiting. Asymmetry in shapes are often associated with the frequent use of a
particular character such as handedness or constant use (McLaughlin, et

DST Policyholders who may otherwise miss out on an incentive such as continuation of cover through
the lapse process could pay back payments via card. This is an area of huge potential which is
currently handled by a manual application and results in a poor return. Policyholders could make
advance payments for a new health cash plan (or any product), enabling them to secure cover for a set
period of time which could be incentivised by immediate benefit. Policyholders who leave their
company could be given the option to pay their corporate rate in advance for a set period of time (i.e.

The Expanding Field of Stem Cell Research
Stem cell research is one of the most widely expanding areas of scientific research being conducted all
over the world today. In basic terms, stem cell research is the research of stem cells; however in
actuality is much more complicated. A stem cell is a cell with the ability to develop into any of the cell
types that make up the tissues and organs of the body. This makes these cells highly useful and
provides limitless potential in the field of regenerative medicine.
There are two expansive lines of stem cell research, which involve multipotent stem cells and
pluripotent stem cells. Multipotent stem cells are stem cells which can only specialise into cells of the
same type of tissue, for example muscle stem cells can only become specialised muscle cells. This
type of stem cell are known as adult stem cells and are found in the brain, blood, muscles, skin, bone
marrow and other fully developed parts of the body. On the other hand, pluripotent stem cells can
differentiate and specialise into any cell of the body. These are embryonic stem cells which are found
in embryo s that are five to seven days old, and umbilical cords. In 2006, Shinya Yamanaka, a scientist
in Japan discovered that stem cells could also be generated from mature, fully specialised cells. These
stem cells are known as induced pluripotent stem cells, and are reprogrammed so that they can mimic
embryonic stem cells and become every type of cell.
There is much difficulty in the research of adult stem cells,

My High School Experience In My Middle School
As I exited middle school, it wasn t a smooth transition. In fact, it was more like the ending scene
from Titanic when everyone is jumping ship, hoping that they wouldn t die. Of course, I m over
exaggerating, but it felt exactly like that. I was Rose, a young Kate Winslet, clinging to a unhinged

getting called gay slurs. Now I don t want to write this essay, and have you feel bad for me. I m

run performances. I knew the drama department teacher personally before entering high school, and
he seemed incredibly nice and welcoming. This teacher was my third period, and I couldn t wait to

Hitler and The Holocaust by Robert S. Wistrich
Hitler and the Holocaust is a very informational novel written by Robert S. Wistrich that not only
explains this horrible time in history, but also gives us a look into the mind of Hitler and Nazi
ideology. This book is not just centered on Hitler and Germany as it my sound, antisemitism spread
like a plague all across Europe even before the Holocaust took place. In this work, Wistrich is not
making an argument, but is trying to find an explanation on why so many inhumane actions were
allowed.
Robert S. Wistrich defined antisemitism as hostility and/or prejudice against the Jewish people or their
religion of Judaism. Many people in today s world instinctively associate antisemitism with Nazi
Germany because of the mass genocide that took place. Hostility towards the Jewish people dates
back thousands of years ago when the Roman Empire forced them away from their homeland that is
now known as Israel. With the Jewish population forced from their homes they began to spread out all
over the world and so did the prejudice against them. The Judaism religion was looked down upon in
many parts of the world and people felt like it was their duty to treat the Jewish people with inequality.
Antisemitism took a different turn when statesmen begin to use it in their campaign to gain the
citizens support.

Intervention Based On Humanitarian Ideals
The notion of intervention based on humanitarian ideals is not a novel concept in the realm of
international relations. Even Hitler maintained that his 1938 invasion of Czechoslovakia was
conducted to protect the lives of those Czechoslovaks endangered by their government (Bellamy,
2009). However, the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) has attracted significant mention
in political discourse and academia since the end of the cold war not least with the surfacing of state
sponsored violence during the Arab Spring . This essay, with the help of relevant examples such as
Kosovo, Darfur, Libya and Syria will aim to debate the notion that R2P will only be utilised when it is
in the interests of major powers.
The Peace of Westphalia (1648) which ended the Thirty Years War by instituting a political era made
up of sovereign states having absolute jurisdiction over all physical and political matters in the
confines of their territory established state sovereignty as a central tenet of international relations
(Krasner, 1995 1996). The sovereignty of the State was a sacrosanct principle in the Westphalian
system a value enshrined in Chapter 2.7 of the UN Charter, which asserts: Nothing contained in the
present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within
the domestic jurisdiction of any state (The United Nations, 1945).

Private Schools Vs. Private School Education Essay
There s nothing a parent wants more for their child than to get a great education. The main thing they
have to decide is if they want their child to go to public or private school. Another thing to consider is,
which type of school will provide the best education for their child. However, only some families have
this choice, and others don t. Families that aren t financially stable might not be able to afford a
private school education, even if that s what they would prefer for their children.
From previous experience, I feel as though private schools provide a better education. I do not feel it
is fair to families, or children themselves, that the cost for an opportunity to gain more knowledge at a
faster pace is not available to everyone who would like to take advantage of it. As a child, I was
attending a catholic school up until the fifth grade. Once my mother and I moved to Maryland, we

  • 2. Fairness In The Ulstimatum Game Paradigm In what is known as the ultimatum game paradigm, people have an opportunity to split a pie of money between themselves and another player as they see fit. However, if the other player rejects the offer, no player wins anything. If both players were perfectly rational and did not incorporate fairness considerations into their decisions, then those making offers would always offer $1 while keeping the rest and those receiving offers would always accept the offer since winning $1 is better than $0. However, people often reject offers where they receive less than 20% of the pie because they perceive the offers to be unfair. Essentially, they derive more utility from denying the proposer s allocation than they would have if the proposed allocation went through. Even though they have complete outcome control, dictators typically do not take all the money available in the pie despite having the option to do so. A real world analogue to a dictator game is pay what you want pricing. The concept behind pay what you want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We tend to activate parts of the brain associated with negative emotion when considering unfair offers. Cross cultural studies suggest that fairness is an important consideration in every society that has been tested, though its strength may vary across cultures. Even monkeys tend to respond to unfairness by refusing to work for rewards. Pay differentials play a key role in dictating organization level outcomes. Companies with more pay equity tend to produce better products than ones with pay inequity. Major league baseball teams with more pay equity tend to perform better than those with pay inequity. The gap between CEO pay and the pay of the average executive is negatively correlated with performance. Pay differentials have important consequences because we use others outcomes as reference points to help us determine the acceptability of our own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Root Cause Analysis In Healthcare Organization A root cause analysis (RCA), an organized protocol or procedure, institutes a means of analyzing a sentinel or adverse event that occurs within a healthcare facility, ultimately uncovering causes of problems or errors. U.S. hospitals are required to keep confidential records within the facility of adverse reactions, yet RCAs are mandated to accompany a reported sentinel event to the accreditation organization, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and other organizations (AHRQ 2014). Various members from all aspects of the hospital form a multidisciplinary team to analyze, evaluate, and resolve errors with the goal of prevention of future adverse, sentinel events. A RCA allows for concentration on events and underlying problems that contributed to the incident rather than focusing on individual actions and behaviors (AHRQ 2012). Case Study ... • 4. Right To Bear Arms Justified How is owning a gun justified? By the second amendment, the right to bear arms is granted to the 318 million people currently living in the United States of America. It justifies the ownership of a gun without directly justifying it. The initial understanding of this amendment by the majority of the U.S. is that every person (under the right circumstance) has the right to have a gun in their possession. Although this meaning has been the inherited mindset of most ideas concerning the matter, the controversial conflicts arising around the existence of this amendment represent the true depth of it s meaning and how it stands for much more than just the right to own a gun. In correspondence with the debates on how valid the second amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States has been and continues to be a strong, democratic country, but the importance of the second amendment resides with the precaution that an unprincipled mind may come into power. It represents security from an unjust power that could eventually come to leadership in the many future years of the U.S.A. It gives the people something that they can yield extra strength with against the corrupt side. The citizens are able to fight back or at least defend themselves in the situation that they would need to do so. It gives them the opportunity to take additional precaution. In this way, the second amendment stands for how the rules in this state remain honest to America s power and how it truly resides with its people. It represents America s kept promise of democracy and how it acts as a government that is for the people and by the people. By nature, biometric systems collect more information than just the users fingerprints, retinal patterns or other biometric data. An individual who uses a fingerprint contact system allows government agencies and local law enforcement access to their every move. Most systems will record the whereabouts of an individual at the time of scan. Organizations will have the ability to anticipate the actions of an individual, and the loss of privacy will grow tremendously. Cross trading of an individual s personal data will increase, as an organization will have the attainability to share data in the market. The United States uses a system called Federalism which is a decentralization of the responsibilities of the government. • 8. The Employment Status Of Workers Essay INTRODUCTION It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment, atypical workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required workers and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal certainty in relation to this area of the law. This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA 1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation; that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a conclusion for the arguments put forth. THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have interpreted the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of workers under section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section 230(3) ERA 1996, worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract of employment, or any other contract express or implied... to do ... The transition from an agrarian and feudal system of production to an industrial and capitalistic system brought about many changes to the lives of Europeans. Some of these changes include gender issues, immigration, medicine, the rise of liberal and socialist politics, and the rise of some famous political movements. In the following essay I will expand upon some of the many ramifications that industrialization brought to fruition. The middle class may have seen some positive changes during this time period, but the working class was not nearly as fortunate. Conditions for the working class were terrible and unsanitary. Many working class families were crowded into small apartments with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing, and their general lot in life was quite miserable. I remember our book talking about the filth from chamber pots, the mold and mildew that grew rampantly inside these dwellings, and the lack of sanitation. Their diet was also a sad tale. While the middle class could afford beef and sugar, the working class was forced to subsist mainly on bread. This lack of protein and necessary vitamins and minerals would have put them at a much higher risk for disease and malnutrition. The division in quality of life gave rise to a set of political principles and ideologies known as liberalism. The liberal movement in thought, politics, and social constructs can be seen in popular political movements of the mid nineteenth century. President Thomas Jefferson passed the 1807 Trade Embargo Act. History books often dismiss the Trade Embargo as a complete failure: it did not influence France or Great Britain and only the Americans suffered the most, making it a disaster for the United States (Remini 75) and a political and economic nightmare for Jefferson (Olson and Mendoza 188). In line with this, Jefferson only had two choices: to wage war against Britain and force it to respect American shipping or to implement an embargo to safeguard American ships and properties and inflict economic penalty against Britain (Irwin 632). It was an easy choice. Simply waging a war was the last thing that the U.S. government would have done during this time. In its earliest years, the United States had always been elusive to go to war. Likewise, in comparing these two choices, implementing an embargo was the better choice. Amanda Christopher s home had a significant amount of forensic evidence behind that has yet to be determined. The Supreme Court has analyzed the issue as to whether or not use storing and using DNA was considered constitutional. Although, Pennsylvania is silent on the issue, several states have seen the need for the use and storage of DNA that is obtained of arrestees charged of serious crimes, such as felonies and sexual offenses. Analyzing both the federal and other states provides some guidance as to whether or not the use of previously obtained DNA is constitutional. Questions Presented: 1. What is the standard for using previously obtained DNA from an unrelated arrest for a current investigation? Answer: Depends on the state. Few states allow the storage and use of an arrestee s DNA in certain criminal proceedings. Most states, including Pennsylvania, limit the storage and use of DNA to those who were convicted. 2. Can the police use DNA collected at the time of the arrest of Mrs. Tobin from the jewelry store incident for comparison of the DNA found at Amanda Christopher s home? Answer: Maybe. • 26. The War On Plastic Bags The war on plastic bags is an intense and drawn out debate. It is obvious that the cons of plastic bag usage outweigh the pros, yet our Earth is still being consumed by the infamous plastic bag. Many people have voiced their opinions on whether or not plastic bags should be taxed, although the input of their opinions does nothing but stir the pot since no one can reach a general consensus on how to handle this increasing dispute. Consumer behavior also contributes to deciding upon the plastic bag debate. Consumer s heavy dependence on these bags has a distinct impact on the environment and all of Earths living things. Even though plastic bags can be recycled and reused, the immense overuse of the bags and damage they cause to the environment are reasons for retail stores to implement a bag tax. Human s dependence on plastic bags have grown greatly in just the past couple of years. In 2013, 8.5 million tons of plastic bags were used and not properly recycled resulting in well over 8 million tons of plastic bag waste. This amount of plastic bags used was expected to grow 10% within the 5 years following 2013 which would result in 9.35 million tons of plastic bag usage and waste (Usage of Plastic Bags and Health Hazards 1). The lack of recycling centers and people willing to recycle them causes only 8% of all the plastic bags being discarded to be successfully recycled. • 27. Athletes Using Enhancement Drugs Did you ever take banned substances to enhance your cycling performance? Lance Armstrong, seven time Tour de France winner and cycling superstar responded, Yes ( Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey ). Lance Armstrong is just one of many professional athletes who doped to get ahead in sports. Armstrong s guilty verdict exemplifies the efforts to punish athletes using performance enhancing drugs. The increase in anti doping efforts is evident. In the middle of the 20th century, a troublesome problem arose in the sports world: doping. In the 1960s, the first evidence that athletes were using performance enhancing drugs surfaced (Catlin, Fitch, and Ljungqvist 104). Even though significant evidence prevailed that athletes used the drugs to increase their athletic performance, there was no way to detect drug use. People did not know what to think of the problem, but when a cyclist died at the 1960 Olympic Games from doping, sports organizations started to take action (Catlin, Fitch, and Ljungqvist 100). Scientists went to work looking for a way to detect performance enhancing drugs in athletes. It took several years before any reliable drug testing methods came about. During the FĂ©dĂ©ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in 1966, the first drug test was performed (Hanstad, Smith, and Waddington 229). In the following year, more sports organizations took a stance against drugs in sports. Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Brunelleschi s Influence To The Renaissance In 1418, the town fathers of Florence realized they had to face a major problem. Il Duomo, the cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed in 1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a colossal dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The only obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as planned, with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins, which was more than a craftsman s two year wage at the time. One entry stood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art. This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and other artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome. This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These rules helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom. Brunelleschi s creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This revolutionary technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where math and the arts were inseparably intertwined. Asymmetry In Crabs On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a secondary characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its environment (McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among bilateral characters in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The decapod crab Ranina ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and the segments comprising its pereiopods. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been observed among Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering this character to be sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace, these structure provides adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina abdomen unique among crab species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs, abdomen are folded towards the ventral aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also participates in the digging activity of the crab (Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of shells they are inhabiting. • 34. The Expanding Field of Stem Cell Research Stem cell research is one of the most widely expanding areas of scientific research being conducted all over the world today. In basic terms, stem cell research is the research of stem cells; however in actuality is much more complicated. A stem cell is a cell with the ability to develop into any of the cell types that make up the tissues and organs of the body. This makes these cells highly useful and provides limitless potential in the field of regenerative medicine. There are two expansive lines of stem cell research, which involve multipotent stem cells and pluripotent stem cells. Multipotent stem cells are stem cells which can only specialise into cells of the same type of tissue, for example muscle stem cells can only become specialised muscle cells. This type of stem cell are known as adult stem cells and are found in the brain, blood, muscles, skin, bone marrow and other fully developed parts of the body. On the other hand, pluripotent stem cells can differentiate and specialise into any cell of the body. These are embryonic stem cells which are found in embryo s that are five to seven days old, and umbilical cords. In 2006, Shinya Yamanaka, a scientist in Japan discovered that stem cells could also be generated from mature, fully specialised cells. These stem cells are known as induced pluripotent stem cells, and are reprogrammed so that they can mimic embryonic stem cells and become every type of cell. There is much difficulty in the research of adult stem cells, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wistrich that not only explains this horrible time in history, but also gives us a look into the mind of Hitler and Nazi ideology. This book is not just centered on Hitler and Germany as it my sound, antisemitism spread like a plague all across Europe even before the Holocaust took place. In this work, Wistrich is not making an argument, but is trying to find an explanation on why so many inhumane actions were allowed. Robert S. Wistrich defined antisemitism as hostility and/or prejudice against the Jewish people or their religion of Judaism. Many people in today s world instinctively associate antisemitism with Nazi Germany because of the mass genocide that took place. Hostility towards the Jewish people dates back thousands of years ago when the Roman Empire forced them away from their homeland that is now known as Israel. With the Jewish population forced from their homes they began to spread out all over the world and so did the prejudice against them. The Judaism religion was looked down upon in many parts of the world and people felt like it was their duty to treat the Jewish people with inequality. Antisemitism took a different turn when statesmen begin to use it in their campaign to gain the citizens support. Austrian born Adolf Hitler grew up in the midst of political antisemitism. Even Hitler maintained that his 1938 invasion of Czechoslovakia was conducted to protect the lives of those Czechoslovaks endangered by their government (Bellamy, 2009). However, the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) has attracted significant mention in political discourse and academia since the end of the cold war not least with the surfacing of state sponsored violence during the Arab Spring . This essay, with the help of relevant examples such as Kosovo, Darfur, Libya and Syria will aim to debate the notion that R2P will only be utilised when it is in the interests of major powers. The Peace of Westphalia (1648) which ended the Thirty Years War by instituting a political era made up of sovereign states having absolute jurisdiction over all physical and political matters in the confines of their territory established state sovereignty as a central tenet of international relations (Krasner, 1995 1996). The sovereignty of the State was a sacrosanct principle in the Westphalian system a value enshrined in Chapter 2.7 of the UN Charter, which asserts: Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state (The United Nations, 1945). The main thing they have to decide is if they want their child to go to public or private school. Another thing to consider is, which type of school will provide the best education for their child. However, only some families have this choice, and others don t. Families that aren t financially stable might not be able to afford a private school education, even if that s what they would prefer for their children. From previous experience, I feel as though private schools provide a better education.
