Bootstrap Essay
2.1 Research and Report on Rapid Interface Design Tools
Introduction
A rapid prototype is defined as a 3D model generated rapidly with the help of Computer Aided
Design (CAD) drawing. The process of creating such a masterpiece requires a number of
prerequisites to be fulfilled on the onset of creating the 3D model. The various portions of the
model are built layer after layer. The processes involved in the creation process include solid ground
curing; selective laser sintering, fused deposition modelling, and stereo lithography.
Rapid Prototyping Tools
There is a wide array of rapid prototyping software available in the market today. They range from
WebZap, Balsamiq, Pencil and paper, all the way to Bootstrap. In this assignment, special focus
will be given to the review of Bootstrap.
Bootstrap
This is specially designed for prototyping in code. It bypasses many basics of creating and
enforcing a basic User interface (UI). This software was designed to eliminate the need for having
to write all the codes you need by hand. It works by availing Bootstrap components you require for
rapid prototyping in the canvas section.
Bootstrap Builders and Editors
The editors and builders simplify prototyping testing and creating responsive WebPages and
websites. The editors have drag and drop options from the Bootstrap s rich components library.
The builders and editors include the following:

The Growth Of Electronic Commerce
Growth of Electronic Commerce Commerce is the activity of buying or selling things. When two
person come together to change things in return of something they are doing business.
Traditionally, trade was done by meeting in person with the buyer or seller but that doesn t hold
true in the 21st century. Today most of the business have adopted electronic form of business. John
B. Horrigan writes, Two thirds (66%) of online Americans say they have purchased a product
online, such as a book, toy, music, or clothing. Many people have moved on with online shopping
for some good reasons that comes with it. One of the reason is it being convenient. E commerce
provides option of home delivery which saves effort of actually going to the store and move
around to make a choice. Buying online means to just seat on your couch and make a selection
without even moving from your place. The best part of it is that you just have to place the order
and it gets delivered at your doorsteps. Number of internet users have been increasing since 2000,
but the online transaction rate has been increasing more rapidly. 78% of internet users either
agree (53%) or agree strongly (25%) with the proposition that shopping online is convenient for
them (Horrigan). The other reason why electronic form of business is popular is that it saves a lot
of time to people. While it makes convenient to buy almost everything from home, it also save time
to travel to and from the store. Horrigan says that 68% of

The Negative Effects Of Propaganda In Our Society
Propaganda is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as the spreading of ideas, information, or
rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person .
Whether the effects of propaganda on society are negative or positive is subject to opinion.
Propaganda has been used throughout history, taking different forms and using different
techniques, and is still surrounding us and our society. Propaganda affects us by appealing to our
emotions and to the conformist in all of us. For better or worse, it influences us to bend our
thinking to the perspective of the propagandist, be it a perspective regarding a governmental
policy, a political cause, or a corporate issue.
When people hear the word propaganda , a negative image automatically seems to pop up in their
heads. Propaganda generally revolves around hiding the whole story with information often being
provided in a biased or misleading fashion.
In the United States during World War II, propaganda was everywhere. There were posters with
Uncle Sam on them telling young men to enlist in the military and go fight. There were posters
with American soldiers and American flags, with the words Buy War Bonds at the bottom. The
Japanese Navy devastated Pearl Harbor, and in its wake it left the American people with a passion
for vengeance. The Empire of Japan was violating widely accepted human rights in eastern Asia,
and its government had been seen by the oppressed as a monster that needed to be stopped. The
world was divided between two sides, the majority of the nations of the world supporting the
Allied Powers. If propaganda had not been used to rally support for the war, it is possible that the
war effort would not have been as powerful. Perhaps it could have been weak enough for the Axis
Powers to continue building up strength all over the world. However, this does not justify
propaganda as something that is absolutely good .
Propaganda still has its aspects that are seen as negative. Even the example regarding World War
II could be seen as negative in the eyes of an Axis supporter. However, in the eyes of the common
person, it s a good thing. There are still things seen as negative aspects of propaganda. For
example, the

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. These powerful words were penned in a letter
from a prison cell of Birmingham Jail in 1963, by one of America s best known advocate of equal
rights Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. According to him, all humans are caught in an inescapable
network of mutuality, tied in single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all

Each of the different spheres expresses the principles of justice and fairness in its own way,
resulting in different types and concepts of justice; distributive, procedural, retributive, and
restorative. These types of justice have important implications for socio economic, political, civil,
and criminal justice at both the national and international level.
Distributive justice, or economic justice, is concerned with giving all members of society a fair
share of the benefits and resources available. Fair allocation of resources, or distributive justice, is
crucial to the stability of a society and the well being of its members. When issues of distributive
justice are inadequately addressed and the item to be distributed is highly valued, intractable
conflicts frequently result.
Procedural justice is concerned with making and implementing decisions according to fair
processes that ensure fair treatment. Rules must be impartially followed and consistently applied in
order to generate an unbiased decision. If people believe procedures to be fair, they will be more
likely to accept outcomes, even ones that they do not like. Implementing fair procedures is central
to many dispute resolution procedures, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and
adjudication.
Retributive justice appeals to the notion of just dessert the idea that . people deserve to be treated
in the same way they treat others. It is a retroactive approach that justifies

Creating A Blue Ocean Strategy
According to Michael Porter, a company strategist who understands that competition extends well
beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats and be better equipped to address them
(Porter, 2008, p.16). Thinking comprehensively about the structure of the industry as well as its
customers can afford companies the ability to obtain superior performance. Therefore, it is key for
companies to focus on how to maintain existing customers as well as lure new ones.
Three tiers of non customers
As we have learned from our readings, to create a blue ocean strategy means to reach out to
untapped market space, demand creation, and the opportunity for highly profitable growth (Kim
Mauborgne, 2005, p.4). These blue ocean strategies can exist beyond existing industries/markets or
they can be expanded upon in existing markets (red oceans). Either way, companies need to go
beyond competing (p.5). To do so companies should identify and attract non customers. The three
tiers of non customers identify different level of non customers companies can attract to convert
them into new customers. We will discuss these non customers as it applies to the Apple IPhone.
The first tier non customers are those smartphone users that are curious about the IPhone and
interested in possible switching. The launch of the IPhone 5 was geared towards two sets of
buyers; existing customers and first tier non customers. Both sets were disappointed with the
previous IPhones screen sizes. The

Old San Juan Narrative
We had arrived at a small cul de sac just outside of San Juan, Puerto Rico. My hosts paid the cab
driver as I took in the mostly abandoned beachside village. I watched the locals standing in
doorways of grocery markets and bars, or sitting in old lawn chairs speaking rapidly and
laughing with each other as they watched me in return. This wasn t a place use to outsiders. The
stark contrast between Old San Juan and here was surprising at first. The buildings weren t well
maintained and the boardwalk well worn. We came across houses or old bars that the sand had
reclaimed. My company and I walked in near silence, stopping to take pictures and appreciate the
views. Earlier that month I had lost my job, I felt broken and disappointed. I knew it

On Keeping A Notebook, By Joan Didion
Essayist, Joan Didion, in her narrative essay, On Keeping a Notebook, expresses how a
notebook helps her keep track of her memories. Didion s intention is to explain to the reader how
when she seems to only be going through the motions (Paragraph 8) of what she is supposed to
be doing, her notes allow her to regain her sense of self. She employs a nostalgic tone in order to
draw apon the curiosity in her adult readers. Didion makes her point quite heavily by use of pathos,
ask answer questions, and parenthesis.
Didion begins her narrative by describing her thoughts both during and after reading an entry from
her notebook. She emphasizes this point by demonstrating how at first, she can merely state that as
the note is in my notebook, it presumably has some meaning to me (Paragraph 1.) As her
remembrance improves more and more however, she becomes able to recall emotions from the
incident with phrases like she wishes and she wants (Paragraph 2.) These statements create a wistful
atmosphere. Didion use this pathos appeal to establish an emotional connection to her audience.
This causes her readers to experience similar memories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She asks questions such as, Why did I write it down? or Why do I keep a notebook at all?

a notebook. The effect of this is the reader being more open and willing towards the idea of writing

T he Great Chicago fire was a tragic. We never knew what actual happened we just have theory s.
We think we know what happened but what we do know was why it was so fierce.
The theory is that a women by the name of Mrs. O Leary was milking her cow when the cow
kicked a lantern that was used to light up the barn. What they think happened is that the fire got out
of hand, before the firefighters got there. It spread so fast from the dry and humid weather. What
didn t help the fact is that the whole city was made out of wood. The city only had one water supply
and the city was full of oil.

The War That Made America
America is the home of the free because of the brave. Most Americans know this to be true
because of our current armed forces but more importantly our past. Our past militiamen and
soldiers have gained us freedoms and homestead of our own religions, families, and the power to
make our own decisions. Over the past few weeks I have read many different articles and a
narrative by Fred Anderson, The war that made America. . Through all these things I ve come to
see how big of an impact our armies have made past and present. The thing people don t take into
consideration is that from the founding of Jamestown until 1785 the American colonial society was
in a constant state of conflict.
The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army
to defend the things we want to achieve. Whether its freedom from our fathering country s or to
show the power we have. Understanding how we have come to be from wars like the French and
Indian war that sparked the beginning of the American revolution and the military culture and how
the experience and significance of our country s soldiers and militia men compared and brings us
to our American military culture and the value s of American thought, culture, and society. We
would not have things like Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness , if it wasn t for our great
nations military force. A time period ranging from about 1755 to 1861 America has dealt with many
trials and stipulations that

Persuasive Essay On Why Kids Should Get A Trophy
Many kids around the world are in sports to play for the competition and winning. Starting out as
little kids when joining sports, it is for the fun and enjoyment. If I had a child and my kid had a
bad attitude going out onto the field or court and never tried the whole time, I don t believe that my
childdeserves a trophy in the end for participating. Our big question is; does everyone deserve a
trophy for showing up? I oppose the idea of giving everyone a trophy for participating in a sport.
I believe that every person in a sport does not deserve a reward for participating. There are people
out in the world that work every day to become the best they can be in the sport they play. In the
end, it pays off when they win. If I won in one

Nonconformity In Transcendentalism Poems
Nonconformity is one of the themes used in transcendentalism poems. It is used to mostly provide
support for another important theme, Self reliance. The story and theme are two different things by
the way. Nonconformity is usually used to give the reader a direct definitions of someone s
originality and individuality. In the beginning of Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he says,
whoso would be a man be a nonconformist. What he means by that is that if you are good at

Pros And Cons Of Job Stress
Final exam
Stress is a body s reaction on any situations which are usually caused by both good and bad
experiences. When the body is stressed, most of the individuals experience different health issues,
such as muscle tension, headache, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, etc. These
symptoms can affect not only body, but thoughts, mind, feelings, and behavior as well.
Nowadays, the most major source of stress for American adults is the job stress. The statistic
highlights that an estimated 1 million workers are absent every day due to stress. The European
Agency for Safety and Health at Work reported that over half of the 550 million working days lost
annually in the U.S. from absenteeism are stress related and that one in five of all last minute no
shows are due to job stress (The American Institute of Stress).
Some jobs, naturally, involve more stress than others, but i believe that the most stress related jobs
are those that involve public safety working environments. Researchers have found that the police
officers are most exposed to stress due to their negative pressures related to work. These pressures
can cause threatening psychological and underlying mental health disorders including substance
abuse, marital problems, anxiety, depression or post traumatic stress disorder. Untreated depression,
the feeling of dissatisfaction with oneself may develop suicidal thoughts in the individuals.
Suicide is one of the biggest problem for law enforcement officers.

Tragic Hero In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
Title Goes Here
The play named, Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, still remains an classic . There is
much conversation about this play being defined as a tragedy . According to Aristotle s definition,
A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in
itself; in appropriate and pleasurable language;... in a dramatic rather than narrative form; with
incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions. This play
can be defined as a tragedy because of two reasons. The first reason being that the downfall of a
person who believes that doing something wrong is the right choice. Doesn t bother to think how it
will affect him or her and others around them. Another reason of the play Death of a Salesmanis of
lack of the sense ,comprehension, of achieving the classical American dream. Defining the play as
a tragedy, does it makes Willy Loman a tragic hero? Aristotle once stated, A tragic hero is a literary
character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction. Arthur
Miller believed that the common man best fits an tragic hero because they deal with everyday life,
struggling to live the American Dream. Never does Arthur states Willie Loman name, he is just a
primary example. Insistence upon the rank of the tragic hero, or so called nobility of his character,
is really but a clinging to the

Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis
Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of
music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were
composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by
composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon musicand the concert hall for
solo pianorepertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and
Haydn and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late
sonatas, Op. 101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came
before in their style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five
piano sonatas from Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of
Beethoven s compositional style as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical
style. The piano sonatas are reflective of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort
of condensed versions that still show the same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed
throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style
of composing, particularly in the late sonatas. Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer
and these five sonatas were the chief output of six years of work in the second to last decade of his
life. Beethoven s increasing deafness was a major

Biography of Edgar Allan Poe
There are two bodies the rudimental and the complete; corresponding with the two conditions of
the worm and the butterfly. What we call death, is but the painful metamorphosis. Edgar Allan
Poe was a poet who grew up with theater in his blood and who became known for his style of
literature. First I will inform you of his birth along with his parents, then I will tell you about his
childhood and education, after that I will follow up on his mysterious death.
Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in a cheap rooming house near the Boston Common.

Since we have talked about his childhood along with his adulthood, let s move onto to his later
years and his death
Edgar Allan Poe passed away on October 7, 1849 at the age of 40 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Walsh, the author of The Mysterious Death Of Edgar Allan Poe, said that The Immediate Cause of
death given was congestion of the brain, or inflammation of the brain, catch all medical phrases of
the day.
In his own time and even decades later, no one really questioned the verdict that the culprit was
liquor.
No one seriously questioned that Poe died as a result of complications arising from a drunken
debauch (de batch).
Drunkenness explained all, it was decided; otherwise, if Poe had been found in extreme distress in
a public place, that standard procedure would have been followed, and much more would now be

What was assumed was some sort of physiological or orthostatic collapse.
Science in that day was unable to define it further.

The Tenets Of Behaviorism
The term behaviorism referred to the school of psychology founded by John B. Watson based on
the proposition that all things which organisms do including acting, thinking and feeling can and
should be regarded as behaviors (Staddon, 2001) . And this behavior could be researched
scientifically . According to Pavlov, Respondent Conditioning resulted from the association of two
stimuli, such as causing dogs to salivate at the sound a tuning fork. Consequently, Skinner
developed Operant Conditioning where the Stimulus Response association was elicited through
selective reinforcement (rewards or punishments) to shape behavior. In this regard, behaviorism
assumed that a learner was a passive recipient and responding to environmental stimuli. When
applying the tenets of Behaviorism to teaching, Skinner asserted that the learner started off as a
blank slate, and then his behavior was shaped via positive or negative reinforcement. Behaviorist...

environment triggered off and not through the environment itself. (Brown, H.D. Gonzo, 1995).
Cognitive theorists may have wanted to understand how problem solving changed throughout
childhood, how cultural differences affected the way we view our own academic achievement ,
language development, and much more. (Feldman,1995). Unlike behaviourism, cognitivism
emphasized that learners were not a programmed animals or passive receivers that respond merely
to environmental stimuli; contrarily learners are rational human being and require active

Discovery Process In Tim Winton s Neighbours
The related text Neighbours by Tim Winton follows a young Australian couple s discovery process
as they move into a new multicultural neighbourhood. Through the notion of rediscovering
something that was once lost or concealed, new perceptions and understanding arise challenging the
individual preconceptions, which in turn cause new emotional connections to be formed. When
individuals search for a new experience, they may uncover ideas or objects that were thought to be
lost through which the individual may review the past or see it in a new light and discover
unexpected concepts and understanding. Shakespeare explores this in The Tempest, through
Prospero s rediscovery of humanity. This rediscovery is initiated in Act 5 after Prospero confronts

Hobbes Social Contract Essay
The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political
philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas
Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern
was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau
(1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the
civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his
conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society
they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very
divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later
conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis.
In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no
letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the
life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with
precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly
threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that
incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to

Motifs In Romeo And Juliet
Symbols and motifs are proven to be significant. They are a key element to understanding
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet play and the 1996 modernised version by Baz
Luhrmann. Both texts are about a long feud between the two richest families in Verona, the
Capulets and Montagues. Along the way, a misunderstanding leads to their star crossed lovers
children s death, reconciling the two families. Throughout the film and the play, recurring
symbols and motifs helps the audience understand the deeper meaning of the texts and the ideas
presented, therefore making it significant. Luhrmann uses the recurring motif of water in the
film, contrary to Shakespeare s. This further extends significant themes and ideas in the original
play. The reoccurring motif of light and dark images through Romeo and Juliet show the
contrast of light and dark imagery. Both Shakespeare and Luhrmann use Religious symbols to
reinforce the idea of fate and it s major role in society both in the modern and ancient time.
Luhrmann continuously uses water as a motif to further emphasise Shakespeare s original idea
of ?.The audience first sees a mid shot of Juliet immersed in water, while the world around her is
calm and muffled, when she is out of the water, suddenly everything is shown to be chaotic with
all party preparations and her mother and her nurse shouting Juliet! around the house trying to
find her. The audience is first introduced to Romeo looking out on the beach through an extreme
long shot. Water connects the two main characters, they first lock eyes through a fish tank and
bond in the Capulet s pool, where they their exchange vows. Water is also associated as
cleansing. First when Romeo dunks his head in water to get rid of the effects of the drug, a
closeup of his mask dropping symbolises his now unfiltered and realistic view, after the water has
cleansed him. This is again shown during the battle between Tybalt and Romeo. A long shot of
Tybalt falling into the fountain and then a close up of Romeo, his teary face and then a shot of
rain pouring down on Romeo, which is when he aware of the consequential sin he has committed,
screams, I am fortune s fool! . The rain helps Romeo aware of his actions. The water opens his

Reflection Paper On Drills
When I was assigned as the Assistant Convoy Commander, while deployed in Iraq, my duties
were comprised of giving the mission operations brief before convoys, after action reviews
(AAR), teaching battle drills, rollover drills, vehicle recovery, reaction to Improvised Explosive
Device (IED), reaction to small arms fire, and additional weapon maintenance. (11. BNOCC I
and Phase II, and ANOCC, and 5. Drill Sergeant School). In battle drills I taught the proper
actions to take in different situations for battle. Rollover drills class consisted of how to basically
protect yourself as the vehicle is rolling. This drill was practiced until it was second nature and
consisted of bracing techniques and how to extract yourself from the rolled vehicle. In vehicle
recovery, my soldiers learned how to do combat recovery of a vehicle in a hostile environment. (12.
Combat Action Badge and 14.Bronze Star Medal). Communicationrelated to the reaction of the
IED s include communicating with those in the vehicle, to check for injuries. If there were
injuries we formed a perimeter, secured the area, and called for medical evacuation. If there were
no injuries, we established if the vehicle was okay to drive, checked with the others in the convoy
for injuries and disabled vehicles. My job was ensuring the safety of our people, and those we
were transporting to their destination. Our mission was to keep them out of harm s way, not to
engage, but to keep moving. We only stopped

Thesis: The Japanese aesthetics of irregularity and simplicity manifest in the artistic creations in
calligraphy, make up brushes and pottery. Through an examination of the both the process by
which these items are created as well as the final object made, the soul and personality of the
creator emerges.
Paragraph 1:Caligraphy Irregularity
Each Japanese Calligrapher reveals a part of their soul through each unique stroke. A message
bigger than the words written is told through the width, length and curvature of a calligrapher s
stoke. Every calligrapher s style can be seen through the irregularities in their work. In Hannah Peck

The Japanese atheistic of simplicity is present within the tools. Each tool has one simple job,
however, no brush or paper is made the same as well as the artists who use them. In Hannah s pecha
kucha, she explains the beginning of the process of calligraphy. Hannah mentions the importance of
the brushes in calligraphy and their connection to simplicity. She analyzes,
Furthermore, no two artists are the same. Each one possesses his or hers own preference and
style; some brushes are incredibly elegant with family names inscribed on the handles. Well others
appear as if they were made from a stick of bamboo. Ultimately it does not matter how expensive a
tool may be but rather what can be accomplished with that tool.
The calligrapher s brush manifests the artist him or herself. Whether the artist wishes to have
elegant brushes or simple bamboo brushes, they all have one simple job, to write. The beauty of
the brush does not matter, but rather the work done with the brush. The work created with the tool
rather than their supplies reveal how the Japanese value humility as well as the simplicity of the
work. A simple movement of the brush on the paper creates a peaceful state of mind for the artists.
It is a feeling of simple joy when the brush moves along the hand made paper. The treasured
Japanese paper is different from American paper. Machines create smooth,

Family Abuse And Child Abuse
We have all heard the saying Home sweet home or Home is where the heart is. Unfortunately for
numerous people, especially women and children, home is anything but a safe haven. In our
society spouse abuse, elderly abuse and child abuse is a major family related social issue. Family
abuse comes in many forms, physical violence, sexual violence and psychological and emotional
abuse. Nonetheless, family violence is not unusual, perhaps this reason is because nuclear families
devote to spend so much time together which leads to emotional bonds integrated with emotional
stressors that may trigger outbursts and violence if the person doesn t know how to deal with stress
in other healthier ways.
Our family influences our prospective as individuals. So when faced with abuse within the family
it can influence our outlook of society. Especially for children who are still developing, when a
child is abused in any way from a family member (mother, father, sibling). The effects of the abuse
last throughout their lifetime and can influence every aspect of their life. The lifelong
consequences can transpire into physical, mental, and psychological problems, this also applies to
spousal abuse. Studies have shown that around five youths die each day due to child abuse and three
or more adult females are murdered by their husbands/boyfriends per a day. 68% of children are
abused by a relative and in addition 2.9 million incidents of child abuse are reported each year, here

Essay on Plate Tectonics Explained
The interior structure of Earth is chemically divided into an outer solid crust, the mantle, a liquid
outer core, and a solid inner core. The core is largely composed of iron, along with nickel and
silicon. Other lighter elements are usually in the crust.
The core is divided into two parts, the solid inner core and the liquid outer core. The inner core is
thought to be solid and primarily made up of iron and some nickel. The outer core is all around
the inner core and is believed to be made up of liquid iron mixed with liquid nickel. The outer core
is about 2890 to 5100km. The inner core is 5100 to 6378km.
Earths mantle is mainly composed of substances high in iron and magnesium. The melting point of
every substance depends on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This then forms oceanic trenches in which the Earth s crust is pushed under into the mantle where
it becomes molten. The oceanic trenches are several hundred kilometers long but narrow. They also
are the deepest parts of the ocean floor. These boundary types also produce mountains. Mountains
are made when convergent boundaries collide but instead of one going under they both are pushed
up by the others force. For this to happen neither of the boundaries can be more or less dense than
the other. There are three types of convergent boundaries: oceanic plate continental plate
convergence, oceanic plate oceanic plate convergence, and continental continental plate
convergence. An example of this type of boundary is the collision between the Eurasian Plate and
the Indo Australian Plate which is forming the Himalayas.
A divergent boundary is where the plates are moving away from each other. These areas can form
in the middle of continents but eventually form ocean basins. Divergent boundaries make ocean
ridges like the Mid Atlantic ridge. At divergent boundaries the floor is higher than anything else
around it. This is because where the plates are moving away from each other there is a crack where
new magma constantly flows upward toward the surface through a gap called a rift onto the ocean
floor making the surrounding area move outward. Sometimes submarine volcanoes might also be
formed. Continental crust is often split along divergent plate

Causes Of Southern Secession
One of the most prevalent justifications and causes for southern secession was the protection of
state and citizen rights. More specifically, the protection of the rights given to them, and protected
by, the fifth amendment of the Constitution. This amendment protected the rights to property that
American citizens possessed, which in the south translated into the protection of their slaves, whom
they considered their property. The majority of southern opinion was that the northern states, or the
union, were attempting to strike down the rights of [the] Southern slave holder and override every
barrier which their constitution has erected for his protection (Document 2, p. 93). By this, the
southern opinion was arguing that the northern majority in the federal government was
intentionally limiting southern citizens constitutional rights, which in the 1860 s was a serious
accusation. The most common instance used to support this was the, in the southern opinion,
disregard for the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Many secessionists pointed out that this law was
meant to protect property rights, but that multiple northern states were attempting to nullify it
(Document 2, p. 94), thereby attacking southern rights in addition to the federal laws in place. A
secondary driving force of southern secession was the belief that the southern states and citizens
needed to protect themselves, and their way of life, from Abraham Lincolns administration and the
implications that it

Siddhartha Lessons
Lessons are best learned through experience. This holds true in Hermann Hesse s Novel
Siddhartha. On his path to enlightenment, Siddhartha experiences many different circumstances
that shape the way he becomes by the end of the novel. He encounters trials and tribulations,
such as affection, self exploration, and sadness, much like I have. Through these experiences,
both Siddhartha and I were not only guaranteed knowledge of our situations, but eternal wisdom
through our experiences. Siddhartha ignores the ways of other spiritual groups, and goes on his
own path, and I break away from mean spirited people. In part one, Siddhartha decides after
trying the way of the Samanas, that it is not for him, and Govinda follows. In this quote,
Siddhartha explains to Govinda, that although Govinda believes that the samanas will help them
attain wisdom and enlightenment, he has noticed that all of them are old and frail, even
unhappy. He has lived for sixty years and has not reached the nirvana. He ll turn seventy and
eighty, and you and me, we will grow just as old and will do our exercises, and will fast, and will
meditate. But we will not reach the nirvana, he won t and we won t. (Hesse 20). This leaves
Siddhartha to believe that although they may have pushed away their desires for human contact,
and ousted their needs for food and shelter, they have still not reached enlightenment, even as old
men. They then try to make way with the Buddha. Siddhartha is bewildered by the fact

Our patient was admitted to the ICU with respiratory distress. Respiratory distress is caused by
an inflammation due to neutrophil activation. The body has an inability to transfer oxygen or
carbon dioxide. This leads to increased permeability of A C membrane, which then causes
edema. Because of the edema, there is an increase in fluid in the peripheral areas and edema in
hands, feet, and the scrotum. Decreased gas exchange also occurs because of the edema and
mechanical ventilation is then implemented. The ventilator settings for our patient were: Rate 15,
Peep 12, Peak Flow 60, FiO2 95, Flow Trig 1. Respiratory distress can also lead to multi organ

Two mechanisms, insulin resistance and decreased insulin secretion, are vital functions that lead to
the development of Type 2 Diabetes. Insulin resistance is the effect that insulin has on insulin
sensitive tissues and their response to the insulin (McCance and Huether, 2010). Abnormality of the
insulin molecule, high amounts of insulin antagonists, down regulation of the insulin receptors,
decreased/abnormal activation of postreceptor kinases, and alteration of glucose transporter
proteins all lead to defects of the insulin molecule itself (McCance and Huether, 2010). Because the
patient is obese, he is at risk for hyperinsulinemia and decreased insulin receptor density. When
compensatory hyperinsulinemia occurs, the client may not begin to see the manifestations of Type
2 Diabetes for several years (McCance and Huether, 2010).
Beta cells eventually undergo an apoptotic cell death. Beta cell exhaustion from increased demand
for insulin biosynthesis, associated with intracellular oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum
dysfunction, also has been implicated in beta cell apoptosis (McCance and Huether, 2010). Four
hormones/peptides influence the development of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. They are: glucagon,
amylin, incretins, and ghrelin. The primary function of glucagon is to increase blood glucose
levels. Glucagon stimulates both glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, and does this in the liver
(McCance and Huether, 2010).

Conserving Water For The Future
Conserving Water for the Future Agriculture must mediate between nature and human community,
with ties and obligations in both directions. To farm well requires an elaborate courtesy toward all
creatures, animate and inanimate (Wendell Berry). Farming is a delicate balance between
producing the most possible from the land without destroying the land. In order for farming to be
sustainable more has to be grown with less. Water conservation can be addressed in developing
countries by simply embracing modern farming methods. In developed countries more money will
have to be invested into water saving irrigationmethods. There was a time when you didn t shut
the water off when you brushed your teeth and now it is habit to shut the water off to save that
little bit of water. The same spirit will have to implemented in farming simple methods can be
used to save water. In order for farming to be sustainable in an ever changing world, more time
and effort needs to be dedicated to water conservation because the population is growing, water is
a finite resource, and using less water allows farmers to irrigate more land with the same amount of
water.
Farmers across the world will have to embrace modern irrigation techniques. Africa is a prime
example of a continent heavily invested in water conservation. In a continent where 23.2% of its
inhabitants are starving they still have farms without irrigation (World Hunger). Well it would
require significant changes switching

Persian Architecture Essay
Comparing and Analyzing the Architecture in Ancient India and Persia In ancient civilizations,
architecture was fundamental to revealing certain aspects of a culture, such as its leaders and their
communication with the citizens. Rulers that controlled society utilized temples and buildings to
express their power and communicate with their subjects. Cultures were able to express their
abilities through architecture, along with their beliefs and the functionality of their society.
Architecture allowed cultures to leave behind physical evidence of their existence and further
display their ideologies, capabilities, and accomplishments. The exploration of architecture in
ancient Persia and Indiareveals many correlations between the two cultures. Ancient Persian
architecture displayed the Persians liberal policy, in incorporating diverse cultures, and their
intricate designs, most of which, relating to royalty. Meanwhile, ancient Indian architecture
exhibited close resemblance to Persian architecture, and the Indians also used their building as an
expression of royalty and the power that the ruler held.
The Persians borrowed from other conquered cultures because they lacked strong artistic traditions.
Persian architecture was known to include echoes of Egyptian temple Gates and hypostyle halls,
Hittite audience chambers, and Mesopotamian sculpted animal motifs ( Fazio ). The application of
outside cultural influences to Persian architecture signified that Persian architects

I saw this book on Goodreads. It seemed interesting, I got the free sample on my kindle, I loved

The Bright Spot in My Day One morning bright and early, I went to the nursing home near my

Evidently, she did not like the smell of nursing homes either. It suddenly hit me that she could be

sad! I felt connected to her and it crushed me to leave her. She seemed to understand and
reassured me that she knew I was busy and had lots of things to do. As I stood to walk out of the

Topic: Is Kobe the greatest basketball player in 21st century?
(word counts: 981)
Few months before, Kobe Bryant who is probably the most controversial player ended his 20 year
basketball career. Experts made their comments about him which led to a dispute about whether he
is the greatest player in 21st century. As a limitation, the players in 21st century means the players
who spent most of his career in 21st century, which put Michael Jordan out of consideration. Hence,
the range of the choices could be probably narrowed to three players: Tim Duncan, Lebron James
and Kobe Bryant. Moreover, according to Dan Harriman, a professional writer mentioned, a great
player is the one has his contribution on and off the court, which is also the reason Michael Jordon
is generally considered as the greatest player ever (in 20th century? Better to mention). Namely, the
greatest player is determined by both the achievements inside the court and the impact outside the
court as a public character. As a result, it can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the core player in their team, they are always responsible to take the last chance to score that
will determine the results of games, which is called Game Winning shot. According to a statistic
by ESPN, Kobe has made 36 Game Winning shots in his career while both Lebron and Tim have
made 23 Game Winning shots (Abbott, 2011). It is not difficult to conclude that Kobe has the
dominance to determine the result of games, especially during the last few minutes. Therefore,
Michael Jordan, who has been called the god of basketball , claimed that he loved watching Kobe
s game and Kobe is the only one deserved to be compared with himself (Freeman, 2012). It
definitely shows that Kobe is the greatest in 21st century because of the praise from the god of

What Is Social Fact
Emile Durkheim introduced the concept of social facts explaining that A social fact is any way
of acting, whether fixed or not, capable of exerting over the individual an external constraint; or:
which is general over the whole of a given society whilst having an existence of its own,
independent of its individual manifestations. (Durkheim, 1895/1982:59). In other words the ideals
passed down to us that we pass down to our children, established patterns of human relations,
which create a set of expectations for each individual, these differ in every society. Durkheim
describes his personal experiences of social facts while performing his responsibilities, which he is
obligated to do as a brother, a husband (Durkheim, 1982:50) although... Show more content on

Just as Durkheim explains there are no psychological or biological factors associated with the
racism, hatred and stereotyping that an individual encompasses, but it is established from an
outside influence. The stereotyping associated with racism is passed onto children from their
parents who attributed it from the social fact they were born into that holds the beliefs,
tendencies and practices based around racism towards other particular social facts, it becomes
normal for a individual who was born into a racist social fact to be a racist. Thinking or feeling
any sense of empathy towards those who are subjected to the racism would result in a penalty for
the individual. It is the social standard to be racist and a rational, accepted action to discriminate
against particular groups; they are conforming to the norm of the social group. Just as Durkheim
carries out his duties as a brother, a husband or citizen... (Durkheim, 1982:50). A person who was
born into a racist social fact fulfills their duties by being discriminatory, as social facts have a
cohesive power over them, regulating their thoughts and actions. The 2005 Cronulla Riot s can be
used as an example: the ethnically motived riots were orchestrated between Middle Eastern young
men and White Australian men. The white men believed that they were superior to the Middle
Eastern men, this was based on

How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote...
1.2.1How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote Substantive Equality
This section provides a summary of the main findings of major reviews that have been conducted of
the effectiveness of the Human Rights Act by the government, the Joint Committee on Human
Rights and the Commission. The reviews indicated that the HRA had largely had a positive impact
on public service delivery and the enjoyment of human rights. However there are a number of
barriers to the HRA s effectiveness: significant misconceptions about the HRA are held by sections
of the media, general public and at times public authorities (including by frontline staff in public
authorities on when the HRA is not relevant), a need to improve understanding and application of
the HRA by public authorities, and a need for better leadership on human rights issues by the
government and the Commission.
These issues are also linked to the discussion of the process for developing any Bill of Rights in
Chapter 4.
Reviews by the government and the Joint Committee on Human Rights
There have been two reviews conducted by the government on the effectiveness of the HRA. In
July 2006 the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) published a review in response to the
Prime Minister s request to the Lord Chancellor to consider any problems with the implementation
of the HRA. In addition, the Home Office conducted a review of the effect of the HRA in the
context of a wider review of the criminal justice system to

According to Caroll Brown (2011), medication errors occur in every health care setting, including
the physician s office. It is estimated that there are two hundred and eighteen thounsand, medication
related deaths annually, with a total cost of approximately one hundred and seventy seven million.
Events related to medications are the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart
disease and cancer (Caroll Brown, 2011). The first steps of prescribing and administration are
where error is mostly the highest in hospitals. Medication errors can include the following: wrong
dosage, wrong route, wrong frequency (of rate for IV), wrong medication wrong choice of
medication for condition, wrong time, wrong administration technique, wrong patient missed dose,
known drug interaction, known allergy to drug, wrong reason (Caroll Nakuruma,2011). Ideally, the
organization will introduce a reporting system strategy that is specific to the clinical area to focus
on this vital risk management issue at hand (Caroll Nakuruma, 2011).

Perspective In Elie Wiesel s Night
Perspective is important. The way you look at something may be drastically different from the
way I look at something, giving us a potentially vast difference in opinion. This applies to literature
as well and is shown in the different narratives the stories are written in. Different stories are better
written in different types of narratives (including first, second or third person narratives) and Night
is no exception. Night is written in a first person narrative, which in my opinion, is very effective in
carrying across the author s point. First person narration in this novel allows us to connect with the
narratorand understand the situation in a realistic sense, as well as being the most fitting narrative
for this novel, it makes sense... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is to say writing in first person can allow the author to be more descriptive with the way he
writes his scenes. An example of a very descriptive scene is when the Jews were on the train
cars, heading towards Buchenwald. Passersby threw bread into the cattle cars and watched as
the Jews tore each other apart for the crust of it. An especially gruesome part of this event is
written in the following: He was hiding a piece of bread under his shirt. With lightning speed he
pulled it out and put it to his mouth. His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his
ashen face. And was immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this
shadow threw itself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: Meir, my little
Meir! Don t you recognize me... You re killing your father... I have bread... for you too... for you
too... (Wiesel, 101) The use of first person narration is very effective here. Elie, as a 16 year old
boy, watched the worst of humanity through his own two eyes. It is hard to provide a description
as chilling as this one with other types of

Utah Symphony Analysis
Financial Strengths:
The Utah Symphony received approximately 5% of its incoming from their endowment fund
annually. The organization raised $3,829 in revenue from rental fees, sets, props, costumes, box
office, etc. However, the symphony believes that the fundraising contributions are sufficient
enough currently to allow ticket prices to remain the same as the prior year is successful. The up
side is that there was a $116,308 in surplus at the end of the year.
Utah Symphony Financial weakness:
The Utah Symphony s goal is to become stable financially stable through the raising of sufficient
annual profitable. The Symphony relies too heavily on government grants. The performance
revenue is only 18.5% more than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There needs to be in place a way to bench mark the progress or lack thereof that is made. In
addition, performance measurement must be instrumental in the growth. The symphony has an
opportunity to hire new top quality talent to take their organization to a new level. A program to
scout and recruit new talent is required explore other performers around the world. Furthermore,
with the symphony s reputation, it should draw in new performers. Perhaps a look at the current
salaries are in order to attract new talent.
Financial and Leadership Recommendations;
Anne Ewers must take the following key steps to address above stated financial weaknesses. She
needs to reduce the overall expenses as it relates to the profit; the percentage of profit is less than
one percent of the total expenses. The symphony should increase profits by increasing ticket prices.
In order for Anne to increase the profitability from $116,000 to $500,000 annually, she needs to
increase their number of performances and make the musicians earn more of their salaries.
Furthermore, the symphony can expand the music selection to include other cultures and
communities that are appealing and invites new customers. Anne needs to solicit feedback from
patrons that attend the opera as well as potential customers. She needs to find out what they would
like, what would bring them back and invite friends and family.
Anne

When two person come together to change things in return of something they are doing business. Traditionally, trade was done by meeting in person with the buyer or seller but that doesn t hold true in the 21st century. Today most of the business have adopted electronic form of business. John B. Horrigan writes, Two thirds (66%) of online Americans say they have purchased a product online, such as a book, toy, music, or clothing. Many people have moved on with online shopping for some good reasons that comes with it. One of the reason is it being convenient. E commerce provides option of home delivery which saves effort of actually going to the store and move around to make a choice. Buying online means to just seat on your couch and make a selection without even moving from your place. The best part of it is that you just have to place the order and it gets delivered at your doorsteps. Number of internet users have been increasing since 2000, but the online transaction rate has been increasing more rapidly. 78% of internet users either agree (53%) or agree strongly (25%) with the proposition that shopping online is convenient for them (Horrigan). The other reason why electronic form of business is popular is that it saves a lot of time to people. While it makes convenient to buy almost everything from home, it also save time to travel to and from the store. Horrigan says that 68% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Negative Effects Of Propaganda In Our Society Propaganda is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person . Whether the effects of propaganda on society are negative or positive is subject to opinion. Propaganda has been used throughout history, taking different forms and using different techniques, and is still surrounding us and our society. Propaganda affects us by appealing to our emotions and to the conformist in all of us. For better or worse, it influences us to bend our thinking to the perspective of the propagandist, be it a perspective regarding a governmental policy, a political cause, or a corporate issue. When people hear the word propaganda , a negative image automatically seems to pop up in their heads. Propaganda generally revolves around hiding the whole story with information often being provided in a biased or misleading fashion. In the United States during World War II, propaganda was everywhere. There were posters with Uncle Sam on them telling young men to enlist in the military and go fight. There were posters with American soldiers and American flags, with the words Buy War Bonds at the bottom. The Japanese Navy devastated Pearl Harbor, and in its wake it left the American people with a passion for vengeance. The Empire of Japan was violating widely accepted human rights in eastern Asia, and its government had been seen by the oppressed as a monster that needed to be stopped. The world was divided between two sides, the majority of the nations of the world supporting the Allied Powers. If propaganda had not been used to rally support for the war, it is possible that the war effort would not have been as powerful. Perhaps it could have been weak enough for the Axis Powers to continue building up strength all over the world. However, this does not justify propaganda as something that is absolutely good . Propaganda still has its aspects that are seen as negative. Even the example regarding World War II could be seen as negative in the eyes of an Axis supporter. However, in the eyes of the common person, it s a good thing. There are still things seen as negative aspects of propaganda. For example, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of the different spheres expresses the principles of justice and fairness in its own way, resulting in different types and concepts of justice; distributive, procedural, retributive, and restorative. These types of justice have important implications for socio economic, political, civil, and criminal justice at both the national and international level. Distributive justice, or economic justice, is concerned with giving all members of society a fair share of the benefits and resources available. Fair allocation of resources, or distributive justice, is crucial to the stability of a society and the well being of its members. When issues of distributive justice are inadequately addressed and the item to be distributed is highly valued, intractable conflicts frequently result. Procedural justice is concerned with making and implementing decisions according to fair processes that ensure fair treatment. Rules must be impartially followed and consistently applied in order to generate an unbiased decision. If people believe procedures to be fair, they will be more likely to accept outcomes, even ones that they do not like. Implementing fair procedures is central to many dispute resolution procedures, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and adjudication. • 7. Creating A Blue Ocean Strategy According to Michael Porter, a company strategist who understands that competition extends well beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats and be better equipped to address them (Porter, 2008, p.16). Thinking comprehensively about the structure of the industry as well as its customers can afford companies the ability to obtain superior performance. Therefore, it is key for companies to focus on how to maintain existing customers as well as lure new ones. Three tiers of non customers As we have learned from our readings, to create a blue ocean strategy means to reach out to untapped market space, demand creation, and the opportunity for highly profitable growth (Kim Mauborgne, 2005, p.4). These blue ocean strategies can exist beyond existing industries/markets or they can be expanded upon in existing markets (red oceans). Either way, companies need to go beyond competing (p.5). To do so companies should identify and attract non customers. The three tiers of non customers identify different level of non customers companies can attract to convert them into new customers. We will discuss these non customers as it applies to the Apple IPhone. The first tier non customers are those smartphone users that are curious about the IPhone and interested in possible switching. The launch of the IPhone 5 was geared towards two sets of buyers; existing customers and first tier non customers. Both sets were disappointed with the previous IPhones screen sizes. The ... Didion s intention is to explain to the reader how when she seems to only be going through the motions (Paragraph 8) of what she is supposed to be doing, her notes allow her to regain her sense of self. She employs a nostalgic tone in order to draw apon the curiosity in her adult readers. Didion makes her point quite heavily by use of pathos, ask answer questions, and parenthesis. Didion begins her narrative by describing her thoughts both during and after reading an entry from her notebook. She emphasizes this point by demonstrating how at first, she can merely state that as the note is in my notebook, it presumably has some meaning to me (Paragraph 1.) As her remembrance improves more and more however, she becomes able to recall emotions from the incident with phrases like she wishes and she wants (Paragraph 2.) These statements create a wistful atmosphere. Didion use this pathos appeal to establish an emotional connection to her audience. This causes her readers to experience similar memories. ... Over the past few weeks I have read many different articles and a narrative by Fred Anderson, The war that made America. . Through all these things I ve come to see how big of an impact our armies have made past and present. The thing people don t take into consideration is that from the founding of Jamestown until 1785 the American colonial society was in a constant state of conflict. The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army to defend the things we want to achieve. There is much conversation about this play being defined as a tragedy . According to Aristotle s definition, A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself; in appropriate and pleasurable language;... in a dramatic rather than narrative form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions. This play can be defined as a tragedy because of two reasons. The first reason being that the downfall of a person who believes that doing something wrong is the right choice. Doesn t bother to think how it will affect him or her and others around them. Another reason of the play Death of a Salesmanis of lack of the sense ,comprehension, of achieving the classical American dream. Defining the play as a tragedy, does it makes Willy Loman a tragic hero? Aristotle once stated, A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction. Arthur Miller believed that the common man best fits an tragic hero because they deal with everyday life, struggling to live the American Dream. • 19. Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon musicand the concert hall for solo pianorepertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and Haydn and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late sonatas, Op. 101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came before in their style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five piano sonatas from Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of Beethoven s compositional style as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical style. The piano sonatas are reflective of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort of condensed versions that still show the same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style of composing, particularly in the late sonatas. Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer and these five sonatas were the chief output of six years of work in the second to last decade of his life. Watson based on the proposition that all things which organisms do including acting, thinking and feeling can and should be regarded as behaviors (Staddon, 2001) . And this behavior could be researched scientifically . According to Pavlov, Respondent Conditioning resulted from the association of two stimuli, such as causing dogs to salivate at the sound a tuning fork. Consequently, Skinner developed Operant Conditioning where the Stimulus Response association was elicited through selective reinforcement (rewards or punishments) to shape behavior. In this regard, behaviorism assumed that a learner was a passive recipient and responding to environmental stimuli. Discovery Process In Tim Winton s Neighbours The related text Neighbours by Tim Winton follows a young Australian couple s discovery process as they move into a new multicultural neighbourhood. Through the notion of rediscovering something that was once lost or concealed, new perceptions and understanding arise challenging the individual preconceptions, which in turn cause new emotional connections to be formed. When individuals search for a new experience, they may uncover ideas or objects that were thought to be lost through which the individual may review the past or see it in a new light and discover unexpected concepts and understanding. Shakespeare explores this in The Tempest, through Prospero s rediscovery of humanity. This rediscovery is initiated in Act 5 after Prospero confronts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Hobbes Social Contract Essay The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis. In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Motifs In Romeo And Juliet Symbols and motifs are proven to be significant. They are a key element to understanding William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet play and the 1996 modernised version by Baz Luhrmann. Both texts are about a long feud between the two richest families in Verona, the Capulets and Montagues. Along the way, a misunderstanding leads to their star crossed lovers children s death, reconciling the two families. Throughout the film and the play, recurring symbols and motifs helps the audience understand the deeper meaning of the texts and the ideas presented, therefore making it significant. Luhrmann uses the recurring motif of water in the film, contrary to Shakespeare s. This further extends significant themes and ideas in the original play. The reoccurring motif of light and dark images through Romeo and Juliet show the contrast of light and dark imagery. Both Shakespeare and Luhrmann use Religious symbols to reinforce the idea of fate and it s major role in society both in the modern and ancient time. Luhrmann continuously uses water as a motif to further emphasise Shakespeare s original idea of ?.The audience first sees a mid shot of Juliet immersed in water, while the world around her is calm and muffled, when she is out of the water, suddenly everything is shown to be chaotic with all party preparations and her mother and her nurse shouting Juliet! around the house trying to find her. The audience is first introduced to Romeo looking out on the beach through an extreme long shot. Water connects the two main characters, they first lock eyes through a fish tank and bond in the Capulet s pool, where they their exchange vows. Water is also associated as cleansing. First when Romeo dunks his head in water to get rid of the effects of the drug, a closeup of his mask dropping symbolises his now unfiltered and realistic view, after the water has cleansed him. This is again shown during the battle between Tybalt and Romeo. A long shot of Tybalt falling into the fountain and then a close up of Romeo, his teary face and then a shot of rain pouring down on Romeo, which is when he aware of the consequential sin he has committed, screams, I am fortune s fool! . • 29. Family Abuse And Child Abuse We have all heard the saying Home sweet home or Home is where the heart is. Unfortunately for numerous people, especially women and children, home is anything but a safe haven. In our society spouse abuse, elderly abuse and child abuse is a major family related social issue. Family abuse comes in many forms, physical violence, sexual violence and psychological and emotional abuse. Nonetheless, family violence is not unusual, perhaps this reason is because nuclear families devote to spend so much time together which leads to emotional bonds integrated with emotional stressors that may trigger outbursts and violence if the person doesn t know how to deal with stress in other healthier ways. Our family influences our prospective as individuals. So when faced with abuse within the family it can influence our outlook of society. Especially for children who are still developing, when a child is abused in any way from a family member (mother, father, sibling). The effects of the abuse last throughout their lifetime and can influence every aspect of their life. The lifelong consequences can transpire into physical, mental, and psychological problems, this also applies to spousal abuse. Studies have shown that around five youths die each day due to child abuse and three or more adult females are murdered by their husbands/boyfriends per a day. 68% of children are abused by a relative and in addition 2.9 million incidents of child abuse are reported each year, here in the United ... The core is largely composed of iron, along with nickel and silicon. Other lighter elements are usually in the crust. The core is divided into two parts, the solid inner core and the liquid outer core. The inner core is thought to be solid and primarily made up of iron and some nickel. The outer core is all around the inner core and is believed to be made up of liquid iron mixed with liquid nickel. The outer core is about 2890 to 5100km. The inner core is 5100 to 6378km. For this to happen neither of the boundaries can be more or less dense than the other. There are three types of convergent boundaries: oceanic plate continental plate convergence, oceanic plate oceanic plate convergence, and continental continental plate convergence. An example of this type of boundary is the collision between the Eurasian Plate and the Indo Australian Plate which is forming the Himalayas. A divergent boundary is where the plates are moving away from each other. These areas can form in the middle of continents but eventually form ocean basins. Divergent boundaries make ocean ridges like the Mid Atlantic ridge. At divergent boundaries the floor is higher than anything else around it. This is because where the plates are moving away from each other there is a crack where new magma constantly flows upward toward the surface through a gap called a rift onto the ocean floor making the surrounding area move outward. Sometimes submarine volcanoes might also be formed. Continental crust is often split along divergent plate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Causes Of Southern Secession One of the most prevalent justifications and causes for southern secession was the protection of state and citizen rights. More specifically, the protection of the rights given to them, and protected by, the fifth amendment of the Constitution. This amendment protected the rights to property that American citizens possessed, which in the south translated into the protection of their slaves, whom they considered their property. The majority of southern opinion was that the northern states, or the union, were attempting to strike down the rights of [the] Southern slave holder and override every barrier which their constitution has erected for his protection (Document 2, p. 93). By this, the southern opinion was arguing that the northern majority in the federal government was intentionally limiting southern citizens constitutional rights, which in the 1860 s was a serious accusation. The most common instance used to support this was the, in the southern opinion, disregard for the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Many secessionists pointed out that this law was meant to protect property rights, but that multiple northern states were attempting to nullify it (Document 2, p. 94), thereby attacking southern rights in addition to the federal laws in place. A secondary driving force of southern secession was the belief that the southern states and citizens needed to protect themselves, and their way of life, from Abraham Lincolns administration and the implications that it ... On his path to enlightenment, Siddhartha experiences many different circumstances that shape the way he becomes by the end of the novel. He encounters trials and tribulations, such as affection, self exploration, and sadness, much like I have. Through these experiences, both Siddhartha and I were not only guaranteed knowledge of our situations, but eternal wisdom through our experiences. Siddhartha ignores the ways of other spiritual groups, and goes on his own path, and I break away from mean spirited people. In part one, Siddhartha decides after trying the way of the Samanas, that it is not for him, and Govinda follows. In this quote, Siddhartha explains to Govinda, that although Govinda believes that the samanas will help them attain wisdom and enlightenment, he has noticed that all of them are old and frail, even unhappy. He has lived for sixty years and has not reached the nirvana. He ll turn seventy and eighty, and you and me, we will grow just as old and will do our exercises, and will fast, and will meditate. But we will not reach the nirvana, he won t and we won t. (Hesse 20). Two mechanisms, insulin resistance and decreased insulin secretion, are vital functions that lead to the development of Type 2 Diabetes. Insulin resistance is the effect that insulin has on insulin sensitive tissues and their response to the insulin (McCance and Huether, 2010). Abnormality of the insulin molecule, high amounts of insulin antagonists, down regulation of the insulin receptors, decreased/abnormal activation of postreceptor kinases, and alteration of glucose transporter proteins all lead to defects of the insulin molecule itself (McCance and Huether, 2010). Because the patient is obese, he is at risk for hyperinsulinemia and decreased insulin receptor density. When compensatory hyperinsulinemia occurs, the client may not begin to see the manifestations of Type 2 Diabetes for several years (McCance and Huether, 2010). Beta cell exhaustion from increased demand for insulin biosynthesis, associated with intracellular oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction, also has been implicated in beta cell apoptosis (McCance and Huether, 2010). To farm well requires an elaborate courtesy toward all creatures, animate and inanimate (Wendell Berry). Farming is a delicate balance between producing the most possible from the land without destroying the land. In order for farming to be sustainable more has to be grown with less. Water conservation can be addressed in developing countries by simply embracing modern farming methods. In developed countries more money will have to be invested into water saving irrigationmethods. There was a time when you didn t shut the water off when you brushed your teeth and now it is habit to shut the water off to save that little bit of water. The same spirit will have to implemented in farming simple methods can be used to save water. In order for farming to be sustainable in an ever changing world, more time and effort needs to be dedicated to water conservation because the population is growing, water is a finite resource, and using less water allows farmers to irrigate more land with the same amount of water. Farmers across the world will have to embrace modern irrigation techniques. Africa is a prime example of a continent heavily invested in water conservation. • 36. Persian Architecture Essay Comparing and Analyzing the Architecture in Ancient India and Persia In ancient civilizations, architecture was fundamental to revealing certain aspects of a culture, such as its leaders and their communication with the citizens. Rulers that controlled society utilized temples and buildings to express their power and communicate with their subjects. Cultures were able to express their abilities through architecture, along with their beliefs and the functionality of their society. Architecture allowed cultures to leave behind physical evidence of their existence and further display their ideologies, capabilities, and accomplishments. The exploration of architecture in ancient Persia and Indiareveals many correlations between the two cultures. Ancient Persian architecture displayed the Persians liberal policy, in incorporating diverse cultures, and their intricate designs, most of which, relating to royalty. Meanwhile, ancient Indian architecture exhibited close resemblance to Persian architecture, and the Indians also used their building as an expression of royalty and the power that the ruler held. The Persians borrowed from other conquered cultures because they lacked strong artistic traditions. Persian architecture was known to include echoes of Egyptian temple Gates and hypostyle halls, Hittite audience chambers, and Mesopotamian sculpted animal motifs ( Fazio ). • 46. What Is Social Fact Emile Durkheim introduced the concept of social facts explaining that A social fact is any way of acting, whether fixed or not, capable of exerting over the individual an external constraint; or: which is general over the whole of a given society whilst having an existence of its own, independent of its individual manifestations. (Durkheim, 1895/1982:59). In other words the ideals passed down to us that we pass down to our children, established patterns of human relations, which create a set of expectations for each individual, these differ in every society. Durkheim describes his personal experiences of social facts while performing his responsibilities, which he is obligated to do as a brother, a husband (Durkheim, 1982:50) although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Durkheim explains there are no psychological or biological factors associated with the racism, hatred and stereotyping that an individual encompasses, but it is established from an outside influence. The stereotyping associated with racism is passed onto children from their parents who attributed it from the social fact they were born into that holds the beliefs, tendencies and practices based around racism towards other particular social facts, it becomes normal for a individual who was born into a racist social fact to be a racist. Thinking or feeling any sense of empathy towards those who are subjected to the racism would result in a penalty for the individual. It is the social standard to be racist and a rational, accepted action to discriminate against particular groups; they are conforming to the norm of the social group. Just as Durkheim carries out his duties as a brother, a husband or citizen... (Durkheim, 1982:50). A person who was born into a racist social fact fulfills their duties by being discriminatory, as social facts have a cohesive power over them, regulating their thoughts and actions. How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote... 1.2.1How Effective Does The Human Rights Act 1998 Promote Substantive Equality This section provides a summary of the main findings of major reviews that have been conducted of the effectiveness of the Human Rights Act by the government, the Joint Committee on Human Rights and the Commission. The reviews indicated that the HRA had largely had a positive impact on public service delivery and the enjoyment of human rights. However there are a number of barriers to the HRA s effectiveness: significant misconceptions about the HRA are held by sections of the media, general public and at times public authorities (including by frontline staff in public authorities on when the HRA is not relevant), a need to improve understanding and application of the HRA by public authorities, and a need for better leadership on human rights issues by the government and the Commission. These issues are also linked to the discussion of the process for developing any Bill of Rights in Chapter 4. Reviews by the government and the Joint Committee on Human Rights There have been two reviews conducted by the government on the effectiveness of the HRA. In July 2006 the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) published a review in response to the Prime Minister s request to the Lord Chancellor to consider any problems with the implementation of the HRA. In addition, the Home Office conducted a review of the effect of the HRA in the context of a wider review of the criminal justice system to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Perspective In Elie Wiesel s Night Perspective is important. The way you look at something may be drastically different from the way I look at something, giving us a potentially vast difference in opinion. This applies to literature as well and is shown in the different narratives the stories are written in. Different stories are better written in different types of narratives (including first, second or third person narratives) and Night is no exception. Night is written in a first person narrative, which in my opinion, is very effective in carrying across the author s point. First person narration in this novel allows us to connect with the narratorand understand the situation in a realistic sense, as well as being the most fitting narrative for this novel, it makes sense... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is to say writing in first person can allow the author to be more descriptive with the way he writes his scenes. An example of a very descriptive scene is when the Jews were on the train cars, heading towards Buchenwald. Passersby threw bread into the cattle cars and watched as the Jews tore each other apart for the crust of it. An especially gruesome part of this event is written in the following: He was hiding a piece of bread under his shirt. With lightning speed he pulled it out and put it to his mouth. His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And was immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw itself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: Meir, my little Meir! Don t you recognize me... You re killing your father... I have bread... for you too... for you too... (Wiesel, 101) The use of first person narration is very effective here. Elie, as a 16 year old boy, watched the worst of humanity through his own two eyes.
