Analysis Of Frozen Assets By Diego Rivera
Paintings are expression in art form, they reveal the feelings of the painters, and convey the messages.
One of the greatest painter that can reflect the lives of the Mexican people is Diego Rivera. Diego
Rivera is famous for marrying a fellow Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, but is a notorious womanizer, also
famous for his paintings. In one of the paintings, Frozen Assets, Diego Rivera visited New York
during the Great Depression depicting the people and city in his paintings with colors with the
meaning behind it. Since the color is a big thing in paintings, the color gray that Diego Rivera paint on
Frozen Assets, probably represent the people facing in the Great Depression. The first two panels have
the color gray because people were suffering and not enough money and the last panel, it has more
light and have these bright colors. First, the first panel, the skyscrapers were there when Diego Rivera
arrived to New York, perhaps symbolizing that the unfinished city is frozen in time. The machines
below the skyscrapers are still there because probably, they are still building more, but stop since there
was great numbers of unemployment, the machines perhaps have stop working at that time. The
grayish color on the buildings probably represent that money ran out and people are facing the
consequences of the Great Depression. Then there is the train below the buildings, it is believed that
that train was running at that time Diego Rivera visited New York. The functional train

Pro and Con of Liberalized Gambling in Texas
Efforts are once again underway in the legislature to bring casino style gambling to Texas. It s an idea
that has failed in recent legislative sessions, but backers are hoping they ve found the right formula for
success in 2009.
There are many appealing arguments on the side of pro gambling groups. Keeping gambling money
that is now going to Louisiana and Oklahoma in Texas is one popular idea. Reviving the state s horse
raising industry by allowing slot machines at racetracks is another. Some advocates want to help
struggling Indian tribes develop their economies through gambling.
Opponents generally cite moral grounds for their hostility to gambling legislation. There are, however,
many fiscal arguments against gambling as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, this session is the first for new Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus, who
has family ties to the horse raising industry. This creates a potential conflict of interest should any bills
related to casinos at horse racing tracks come before the House. To deflect criticism, Straus has
peremptorily recused himself from any role in considering such legislation.
However, Straus created the committees which will oversee gambling issues, assigned members to
them and selected which bills are referred to which committees. So far, most of the gambling
legislation filed in the Texas House has been referred to committee. That filed in the Texas Senate,
where Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst presides, has not been referred.
To his credit, Straus did not pack any of the committees dealing with gambling. The Licensing and
Administration Committee, through which most gambling goes, retains roughly the same percentage
of members for and against gambling as the previous committee under Speaker Tom Craddick. In both
cases, the committee leaned slightly toward expanding gambling.
Current Legislation.

Waxahachie), as well as its Senate version by Sen. Rodney Ellis (D Houston) would establish full

The Three Stages Of Lyme Disease
What is Lyme Disease?
Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection primarily transmitted by lxodes ticks or deer ticks. The disease is
caused by a bacterium called Borrelia burgdoferi. Lyme is named The Great Imitator, as its symptoms
mimic other disease that affect the brain and nervous system, muscles and joints, and the heart.
How do People Get Lyme Disease?
Lyme Disease is spread through the bite of a tick. Due to its size, many people do not realize they
have been bitten because most are as tiny as a poppy seed. Once the tick has attached to its host, it will
transmit the Lyme and pathogens to the bloodstream.
Three Stages or Lyme Disease
The progression of Lyme Disease is marked by three stages:
Early localized stage: A red spot can

Choices in Robert Forst´s The Road Not Taken and Stopping...
Life is based on the choices that people make. Daily, people face choices that have positive and
negative outcomes in life. For example, deciding to go out on a Saturday night, instead of doing an
important poetry paper; perhaps achieving a good grade is not on the agenda for Saturday.
Consequently, this leaves a person with regret as they reflect back on their D mark. An example of a
positive choice, is graduating college and starting a career. However, there are choices in life that are
not simple to make. Choices such as the ones that alter one s path in life. It would be great if there was
always a guiding light to show people the way. Robert Frost wrote many didactic poems with the
intent to teach people about decision making. The poems The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods
on a Snowy Evening , are both didactic in nature because they reveal a common theme of life
changing decisions.
The poem The Road Not Taken , focuses on the theme of choices. Frost accomplished the theme by
using conflict and imagery. Every single person, at one point in their life or another, faces a fork on
the road that causes a conflict. Conflict on choices, begins an inner battle within one s self and it
causes turmoil. For example, the quote Two roads diverge in a yellow wood, / And sorry I could not
travel both (Frost line 1) , the narrator in this poem has to make one choice; he has to go either one
direction or another in life and he cannot look back. The choice itself

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders In The Outsiders
Have you ever felt like you didn t fit in? Like you were an outcast in your society. That you didn t fit
in with anyone in the group or even your society. In the outsiders it shows how some people just don t
fit in with a crowd. The novel is The Outsiders and the author is S.E Hinton. Even 50 years after it s
release the outsiders theme of the society/class and violences are still uncannily similar in our modern
society.
Even 50 years after it s release the outsiders theme of the society/class and violences are still
uncannily similar to our modern society. The Greasers and the Socs are different when it comes to our
society/class. The Society/Class is one of the major reasons why Socs and Greasers always fight.
Society/Class makes them think of each other are nothing alike and they actually have things in
common. The Socs are prepped who, according to Ponyboy, Jump greasers and wreck houses and
throw beer blasts for kicks, and gets editorial in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and
asset to society the next (Hinton, pg. 3).The Socs love picking on the greasers and starting fights yet,
they are a Upper class out of the two. Society views the Socs as rich and classy, and the greasers
agree. In the texts Ponyboy says Greasers are almost like hoods, we steal things and drive old souped
up cars and hold up gas stations and have gang fights once in a while (Hinton, pg. 3). When our
society decides whether or not you re in an upper class or lower class when it comes to what job do
they work at, or even what s their salary and where they live. In the Outsiders the Socs and Greasers
didn t get along because they both were on different sides of the track. The Socs were on West (rich)
side and Greasers East (poor) side. This doesn t only relate to the Outsiders, but to reality because
everybody stereotypes someone from their appearances which leads to what Society/Class you are in.
Society/Class is one of the huge parts in the Outsiders and in everybody Society . But can lead to
some serious violences which brings danger to our society.

The Truth About Human Papillomavirus
The Truth about Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and around the world
(The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia [CHP], 2009). Today, parents vaccinate their children
because vaccinations are recommended by the child s pediatrician and most importantly vaccinations
are required for the children to attend school. When a new vaccine becomes available parents are
becoming reluctant to get the vaccination for their child fearing negative results brought by myths,
rumors, and the uneducated. The HPV vaccination is not required to attend school, so most parents
will not follow up to get all the shots necessary in order to protect their child. HPV is a disease that
currently has no cure and can help be prevented by vaccinating your child before they become
sexually active.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus that spreads from person to person by
direct contact of infected tissue. According to the CDC, nearly all men and women will contract HPV
at some point in their life (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2013). HPV can cause
cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers in females. HPV can also cause anal, throat, and neck cancer in
both males and females. HPV is also known to cause genital warts in both males and females.
According to the National Cancer Institute (2013), approximately 12,340 new cases of cervical cancer
will be diagnosed in the US, and 4,030 US women will die

Eleanor of Aquitaine Essay
Eleanor of Aquitaine
Much has been written about the historical life of Eleanor of Aquitane. Her life, Undoubtedly reads
like legend, at least in part because it is. It is fairly safe to say that the world had never seen a woman
like Eleanor of Aquitane, and it is doubtful that there has been a woman since who could rival her
power, intelligence, beauty and sheer force of will.
Like many other women of her time Eleanor came from a long line of noble and royal blood. Her
lineage can be traced back to the earliest kings of both England and France.(follow link to take a look
at Eleanor s very long family tree http://www.my ged.com/db/page/scokin/12251) Her father William

Fearing her ambitions, Henry had Eleanor imprisoned until his death in 1189.
Eleanor s life was obviously a very complex network of events and relationships. However, the
nuances and specificities of this compelling woman s extraordinary life can not fully be explored here.
For a more in depth historical analysis of Eleanor s life the following web sites and link sites have
proved themselves to be invaluable.

The truly compelling questions of Eleanor s life revolve around how she found the pure strength of
will to live the life that she did as a woman. She undoubtedly had an enormous amount of power,
certainly more than any woman before her, and arguably more than any woman since. Eleanor had the
courage to be exactly the person that she was, regardless of gender, however the question that remains
is how she managed to do so. What was it about her life and her early upbringing that compelled her
to become the woman she was? What influences in Eleanor s life allowed her to pursue her own
dreams and goals in defiance of her social norms and

Relationship Between Society And The Individual
The relationship between the individual and society is not just something found throughout human
history, but also within the pages of a literature classic. From the first days of settlement in America,
to racial tensions and slavery, to the development of capitalism, there has always been a relationship
between the individual and society that is reflected in the written pieces of each time, revealing the
connection between oneself and the collective spanning across the centuries. The Scarlet Letter ,
written in a Puritan world, and Bartleby, The Scrivener , written in capitalist America, are two key
examples of literature that expose, detail and discuss the relationship between society and the
individual in American history.
Alexis de Tocqueville (1835), a French political thinker, stated that individualism is not mere
selfishness, but is a mature and calm feeling, which disposes each member of the community to sever
himself from the mass of his fellows and to draw apart with his family and friends, so that after he has
thus former a little circle of his own, he willingly leaves society at large to itself [...] individualism, at
first, only saps the virtues of public life; but in the long run it attacks and destroys all others and is at
length absorbed in downright selfishness . In this sense, the relationship between the individual and
community is seen as a negative one, with individualism being a selfish time bomb that explodes and
destroys the collectiveness needed to

Andy Warhol Interpretation
The movie Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol describes his work as being focused on sex,
drugs, and beautiful people. All these of these aspects are a part of Andy Warhol s personal life and the
popular culture of the 1960s. Deeply rooted in the popular culture of the time were the ideas of
images,
power and politics, all of which are shown through his work.
Representation is, as described in Practices of Looking , is the use of language and images in order to
create a meaning and viewer interpretation. This interpretation is a way for the audience to either
better understand or alter their view of their world and reality. Many of Andy Warhol s artistic pieces

Campbell s Soup Cans exemplifies the same ideas of representation. As Warhol explained, the soup
cans were a part of his previous personal life, they were something that he had for lunch every single
day as a child. The Campbell s cans relate to Magritte because both painting merely represent the
image
that is shown. Just as the pipe is not actually a pipe, the soup cans aren t actually soup cans. Both as
representations of aspects of the current culture. They create meaning, maybe evoke a memory.
One of Andy s pieces, The Nose Job illustrates the idea behind the myth of photographic truth. The
myth is the idea that while a photo is supposed to offer a truth , there are always several truths and
limitations that come with a photograph. This idea explains that the truth of a photo is actually a myth
and not a truth at all. The artistic piece by Andy depicts two images, one with a woman whose nose is
overhung, sort of like a witch nose. The second image is one with the American beauty nose. This was
a
time in history where physical appearance was becoming more emphasized and the beauty of

Dan Buettner s Chapter On Singapore
Dan Buettner s chapter on Singapore was very interesting, especially when comparing it to our
American way of life. At first glance the idea of living in a country with very strict laws, such as
public canings for what we would call a minor offense, was mind blowing to me. How could this be
one of the happiest places in the world? Upon further study my mind was changed to some degree, in
fact I could see myself visiting there some day, but only have studing on the most current laws. I think
the United States would be better off if we as a nation thought more about how our individual actions
affected those around us. If you were to visit Singapore, it is highly advised that you first take time
and review both their customs and strict laws. This country is not like any other country you have
been to before. From the time you arrive at Changi International Airport, this difference is very
apparent. You will see go through customs and or immigration, normal and typical when arriving to a
new country, but that is where the similarities end. You will see numerous signs warning you of the
public laws, that you are expected to obey without question. No photography, smoking, or gum
chewing is allowed (Buettner, 2011, p. 75). Think for a minute how odd this might be. You have just
arrived as a visitor and you cannot chew gum and you are not allowed to take photographs!? After
some further research I have found that this law of gum chewing has been modified to some degree.

The Struggle Of Gay Rights
The struggle between Edward and Bella in the Twilight Saga can be closely related to the struggle of
gay right s in today s society. During the whole entire saga Edward and Bella have to fight to keep
their relationship with one another. This is similar to what the LGBT community has been doing for
many years now. In the Twilight Saga some of the characters do not believe that Edward and Bella
should be with one another because he is a vampire and she is a human. Similarly in today s society
some people do not believe that people of the same sex should be in a relationship or marry one
another. The biggest factor that plays into why people believe and think this way is because of the

The fact that they thought that this was a mental disorder was very wrong, and it also shows how close
minded people are. Just because one is different, or loves differently than another person, does not
mean that they have a mental illness. If it did, we would be claiming that a lot of people have mental
illnesses. More recently things that have happened for the LGBT community is that on April 1st of
1998, Coretta Scott King who was formally Martin Luther King Jr. s wife, now a widow, stood up and
called on the civil rights community to help her join the struggle for the LGBT community ( PBS ).
She received lots of criticism for this because she was comparing civil rights to gay rights. The
representatives of the black civil rights movement thought that this was wrong of her ( PBS ). The
stance of the African American Community is hard to believe. One would assume that African
Americans might be somewhat more accepting of others considering that they too have gone through
the struggle and know what it feels like to be treated unfairly, but in this case that was not necessarily
true.
Finally, in 2008 on May 18th, Massachusetts became the very first state to legalize gay marriage in the
United States of America. The court finally was able to see that denying the LGBT community the
right to marry was unconstitutional because it denied people their dignity as well as

The Effects Of Divorce On Children And Teens
Divorce is one of the most common happenings in the world experienced by children. Most children
go through different adjustments to become comfortable with the fact that their parents are not
together anymore. Children of divorced parents are prone to lifelong effects. Seventy five to eighty
percent of children have divorced parents and twenty five percent of those children have serious
social, emotional, or psychological problems for the rest of their life. Most adults think that it is best
for parents to stay together for the sake of their child because having two parents in different
households can become difficult for the child socially and academically.
Parents value obedience as a favor when the child s actions conflict with the parents rights. Different
parents have all sorts of rules for their child in different households. It becomes difficult for the child
during a divorce because now they are needed to go by different rules in different households. Studies
show that if the child is out with the wrong parent they will most likely do drugs or bad in school.
Children and teens start to make bad decisions when they re going through their parents divorce. The
child needs discipline, The child tends to more likely do better if the parents has rules in their
household. The younger they are, the less they achieve academically. Parenting has a huge impact on
the child s whole life.

2. INTRODUCTION 2.1 Meaning of Databases and compilations
Databases in copyright are principally kinds of compilation, and compilations are seen as things that

definitions section as: A work formed by the collection and assembling of pre existing materials or of
data that are selected, coordinated, or arranged in such a way that the resulting work as a whole
constitutes an original work of authorship.
This evidences that the protection of copyright in a compilation emphasizes and concentrates on the
original ways that the data or materials that pre existed are arranged, organized, coordinated and
selected, not the data. In s. 102 the subject clearly shows and comprises of compilations and derivative

The Rise Of Witch-Hunting In 15th And 16th Century Europe
The Rise of Witch Hunting in 15th and 16th Century Europe Following the Middle Ages, as the
Renaissance and Reformation began across Europe, an intense fear of witches was provoked among
citizens. Witches were characterized as individuals who were possessed by the Devil, and were
believed to be threats to the order and wellbeing of society. Individuals accused of witchcraft endured
trials that typically resulted in execution. Satanic worshipping was considered heresy, thus was these
executions were considered justified. While witch hunting occurred throughout Europe, the most
prevalent areas were regions of Germany, as well as other Protestant areas such as Switzerland,
England, and Denmark. Although individuals were often persecuted as witches out of a fear of the
unknown that sparked mass hysteria in the Renaissance, the desire for religious conformity to
Christianity throughout the Reformation and the exploitation of fear as a means of political control
also lead to an increase in persecutions throughout the 15th and 16th centuries. Ultimately, the witch
trials throughout Europe were the result of hysteria following shifting social ideals within the
Renaissance. Following the Black Plague, Europeans began questioning existing social structures,
specifically religious standings. People sought new answers and began exploring through science and
the humanities. This period, known as the Renaissance, lead to an increase in worldly knowledge, yet

Lake, he and his friends mistakenly hassle a stranger and his girlfriend. Instead of apologizing for the

Avoid Real Estate Investment Tax
Minimization of Individual Tax Liability in Real Estate Investment
In the world of investing, in general, one question is often the most challenging to answer. How does
an investor grow their nest egg without losing the majority of their gain to the IRS as income tax? This
question is even more challenging in the area of real estate where one s tax liability is drastically
increased by just the sale of one property. This simple transaction can increasing the investor s
ordinary income if the property is a short term investment (investment is less than 1 year) or
increasing their capital gains for long term investments (over 1 year). Surprisingly, there are several

stock market but the seemly endless rules can quickly change an invertors mind. Furthermore if an
investor knowingly or unknowingly breaks one of the many rules they could be audited by the IRS
and if caught the entire IRA becomes immediately taxable as ordinary income. The most important
rule is that the investor must keep his personal funds separate from their IRA funds. Most
professionals agree it is important to consult an attorney and a CPA to facilitate the creation of a self

Theme Of Friendship In The House Of Cather
In life, there are several things that cannot be bought in a store, such as friendship. There are several
views on the purpose of friendship. The House of Mirth is a novel by Wharton that revolves on Lily
Bart attempting to find a husband as a way to have a successful life and provides insight on upper
class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. O Pioneers! is a novel by Cather about how Alexandra
Bergson connects to the land and others and how Emil Bergeson s romance with Marie Shabata
evolves. Both Wharton and Cather view friendship as a means to support and comfort. However,
Wharton also sees friendship as a way to achieve certain things while Cather perceives friendship as a
way to combat loneliness.
For both Wharton and Cather, friendship serves as a vehicle for support and comfort.
Although Mrs. Trenor tends to take advantage of Lily, Mrs. Trenor gives Lily advice on how to find a

Summary Of The Father Of Inklings By George Macdonald
Widely considered to be the Father of the Inklings, George MacDonald s works are bound to be
profound. After all, nobody as inspired as C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien could have been intellectually
influenced by just anybody. In this particular essay, MacDonald ventures toward defining fairytales.
Within that goal, MacDonald identifies and explores two aspects of fairytales he finds crucial:
lawfulness and the capacity for open interpretation. The main assertion that MacDonald makes is that
fairytales can never be fully defined. They don t have a nice and simple definition, and those who try
to give them one are bound to degrade or simplify some aspects. In order to make the breadth of
complexities clear, he draws a comparison between attempting to define fairytales and trying to
describe a human being. There are just too many aspects to state, and it s essentially impossible to
fully cover everything in a common definition like structure without some sort of simplification. Not
wanting to do fairytales such an injustice, he makes clear that he will touch on only some of the
aspects of fairytales in the remainder of his essay. With the establishment of that point, MacDonald

Sophists
Sophists have been perpetuated in the history of philosophy primarily due to their most fierce critic
Plato and his Gorgias, where Socrates brings profound accusations against the practice of sophists and
declares notoriously rhetoric to be a part of flattery (κολακεία, 463c). This paper focuses on the
responses to sophists practices by Plato and Aristotle, analysing on the one hand criticism made on
their practice, on the other, however, trying to evaluate in which respect the responses of the two
philosophers differ. Thus, taking the polemic of sophists as a starting point, the paper moves forward
into discussing the fundamental differences in the treatment of rhetoric as perceived by Plato and
Aristotle. For this reason (and in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Altogether it seems that Aristotle s basic criticism towards sophists is quite similar to Plato s in his
Phaedrus. Namely, the main focus of Aristotle s censure is circling around the claim that previous
theoreticians of rhetoric put emphasis on something quite corollary in nature and secondary to the
importance of rhetoric. So, according to Aristotle, the contemporary rhetoric handbooks discuss
mainly two aspects of a speech: how many different parts a speech has to have (1.1.9, 3.13.1), and
how to arise the emotions of the audience (1.1.4). In both cases, however, rhetoricians are in fact
discussing something non essential to rhetoric and thus engage themselves with matters outside the
subject (1.1.3 ff). Also, because of focusing on these two aspects only, Aristotle argues that the former
practitioners have inclined to the forensic branch of oratory (1.1.12), since there the effect is easier to
achieve, due to the disinterest of the dicasts (1.1.10). Yet, at times it seems as if Aristotle s real
criticism for such rhetoric is targeted on the state and its laws rather than to the contemporary sophists
(1.1.4 ff).
Although Aristotle considers the two previously mentioned occupations of the contemporary
rhetorician not entirely out of

Dantes Inferno- Symbolism
Symbolism The Inferno by Dante Alighieri is a work of art in which symbolism plays a prevalent role.
Whether it is in the punishments or the monsters in each circle, everything has a dual meaning. During
the entire book there are seen thirty monsters and five hybrid creatures, each representing something
different. Throughout the circles the readers view tortures that are the physical equivalent of their
actions. Alighieri exposes societies misdeeds in an ingenious way that leaves the readers smirking
with satisfaction at the justice. In the first circle, those unbaptized wander around in a fog. This is a
fitting punishment because the fog blinds them much like the absence of god blinds them wit no hope.
It is odd that Alighieri put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the harpies are the perfect monsters to put in an area full of bodies that they can move
around and do with as they please. In the third ring lie those who were violent against god. This ring is
further divided into blasphemers, sodomites and those violent against art. The blasphemers are held on
hot sand, the sodomites are both on the hot sand and rained upon by fire. Those who were violent
against art however not only are forced to stand on hot sand while rained upon by fire but they must
also have a heavy purse hang about their necks. In the third ring the readers find Geryon.
He is the only triple hybrid that Dante and Virgil came across. The succession of Geryons body parts
represents the chronological sequence of fraudulent activity as his honest face engages initial trust, the
intricate patterns painted on him confuse and complicate and at the end of the process the sting in hid
tail brings about death or loss (Source 1). In the ten ditches of the eighth circle we see the panderers
and seducers, the flatterers, corrupt politicians, diviners, barrators, hypocrites, thieves, frauds, sowers
of scandal and falsifiers. In the first ditch the readers come upon the panderers and seducers being
forced to run back and forth by demons whipping them. This is a proper sentence because in life they

Why Building Administrations Have A Developing Business...
Building administrations have been a developing business for a considerable length of time, energized
by the expanding many sided quality of electronic vehicle frameworks, for example, motor

Focusing on their identity, culture, and lives growing up, they made stories and poems out of it in a
fun and creative way. Alexie and Barry s lives were very different apart from each other, but the same
effect can be made. They both went through tough and difficult times no matter what it was, and
ended up making the most out of it. The Vertical Hour does not have this in common. Instead of
focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it. This can really
compare and contrast the way children handle their lives versus adult s handling their lives. Of course
adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they do can hugely impact them.
But children start the base of their own lives before they become adults, and this ultimately shapes
them. No one can be an adult without first being a child. This is very obvious, but not in a certain way.
Before growing up and being responsible, children have to make dumb and stupid decisions. Alexie
barely wrote about this and Barry definitely did not. But this is a fact, in order to learn from mistakes,
we have to make these mistakes. Otherwise we would eventually just keep repeating the same
mistake. Learning from them is what moves us past them and truly grow up. Nadia, in The Vertical
Hour, learned from her mistake of quitting being a war reporter and went back

Every Sunday after mass, the village s men would gather there for eating, drinking and talking. The

Mama, Erich and I cut some branches off a large pine tree so we could arrange them in a pot of water.
That was our Christmas tree. We had no ornaments or home baked goods to decorate the tree as we
had in Jena before the war or when we visited Grandpa s farm. But Mama knitted socks for us and she
placed them under the tree. I had a doll made from potatoes, which had no legs, but Mama knitted tiny

Exposition In The Poem By Langston Hughes
. The exposition in any story or poem is the beginning, probably the first paragraph that lays out basic
information on what the author will talk about. It introduces the characters, time, in this place and the
setting of the piece of art. In this poem life is fine by Langston Hughes, the exposition begins when
the author goes to the riverbank to think but he could not concentrate.
This makes him attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river. He sank upon jumping.

It also shows the turning point of events. We all thought the speaker would die after attempting to
commit suicide twice but at the end he survives and embraces a new meaning of life.
5. The falling action of the poem is when the speaker does not die and decides that since the attempts
to commit suicide were futile, he will continue living and embrace life. So since am still here livin ,I
guess I will live on . He points out that loss of love pushed him to the edge of attempting to commit
suicide but it also gives him a new meaning of life and understands his sense of purpose. I think this is
the falling action since it shows how the character go back to accepting his life the way it was before
the thoughts of committing suicide occupied his mind.
He recognizes that life is sacred and it should not be given up despite the hard situations that people
go through in life. The poem addresses a scenario where people result to death as a way of
overcoming their problems.
6. Denouement shows the characters going back to the normal life they led before the conflict
occurred. The speaker comes to realize how life is consecrated that he even acclaims that life is fine.
Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine! I think the speaker was happy to be alive because

existence. At the end of the poem

Fear In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt conveyed human nature in these
words, which painted the picture of fear s grip on our thoughts and actions. In Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, a stranded group of boys transformed to savages as they attempted to extinguish the
source of their uneasiness, only they were too late to learn that fright was not something driven away
by a stick sharpened at both ends (Golding 267). Trepidation was proven to be all controlling
throughout Golding s writing as it prompted the juveniles to kill under night s shadows while
pressuring them to act rashly to keep from being hunted by an imaginary monster.

momentarily soothed the children. Exploration for meat, in addition to maintaining a rescue fire, again

the smoke signal was no longer a priority, while the lads thoughts were consumed with fright by the
beast and the lust for hunting. In a sacrificial effort to satisfy the monster, they also left the head of
their killed pig as an offering (Golding 191). From then on, instead of focusing on being rescued,

The Life Of The Divine Comedy
A piece of literature written to walk people through life, and what is waiting for them after. The Divine
Comedy was written by a man of politics, relating his content to the events of his everyday life.
Moving deeper into the substance of the writing, there are three major sections represented, Inferno,
Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Furthermore, we will take a look at the nine circles of hell depicted in the
Divine Comedy.
Dante Alghieri s life leading up to the writing the Divine Comedy. Dante was known for engaging in
political agenda through his life and his writing. He was so into politics that he ran, and was elected as
one of the six priors of Florence in 1300. The priors were seen as a high group in the public eye and
only solidified his involvement in the government. His reign couldn t last forever though, and he was
exiled by the Black Guelfs upon their return to power. Dante greatly incorporated Florence politics
and society into the Divine Comedy because of his experience and knowledge on the subjects. Dante
is recorded to have traveled city to city in the hopes of finding military assistance in finding justice for
his unjust exile (Kumar . ) Along with that, he wanted to fight to bring the White Guelfs back in
power. Bringing this idea together, Akash Kumar wrote, settling for a presence in the court of certain
signori (political and military leaders) such as the Malaspina family in Lunigiana, Cangrande della
Scala in Verona, and finally Guido Novello of Ravenna.

The Relationship Between Race And Educational Expectations...
This bibliography is a collection of articles that illustrate the story of Cape Town, South Africa,
namely, that race considerations in one fashion or another permeate every facet and corner of the
country s life. It appears almost impossible for South Africans of any color ever to get away, or to
remove themselves, from this issue, although obviously the reality of race relations does not bear on
all groups equally or in exactly the same manner. Sadly, these same issues are a problem within the
United States as well. Although there are currently no peer reviewed articles regarding this same topic
within places like Ferguson, Missouri, more research is warranted for a closer look at race relations in
these areas.
Education
This study examined the relationship between race and educational expectations between parents and
their children. Specifically, a longitudinal data set focused on educational expectations among black
(African), colored (mixed) and white (European ancestry) parents and their children in Cape Town,
South Africa. Researchers found that there is a strong relationship between the educational expectation
among parents and children regardless of race, although the black parents and children had higher
expectations than the other races, once socioeconomic factors were controlled for. Also, parents and
children tend to agree more about the expectations and have a stronger correlation to the white and
colored races. They suggest that this is due to the desire for

Overcoming Fear In The Short Story
In the short stories The Last Stop, by Brian Cable, I m not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing, by John T.
Edge and The Long Goodbye: Mother s Day in Federal Prison, by Amanda Coyne, all feel the same
when it comes to the businesses they fear. In all of these short stories each main character tries to
overcome fear by going into the businesses. All of the businesses have weird qualities, and that makes
the character feel weird going into the place. The characters each fear something and it makes it hard
for them to achieve their goals in overcoming the fear. Although Cable and Edge both overcome their
fear of the business, Coyne leaves her problem unresolved. People think that some businesses are
revolting, like working in a morgue, selling pig lips, or working in a prison. For example, In the story
The Last Stop, by Brian Cable, Cable used the quote Come in. said the sign. We re always open
(Cable 58). Cable tries to use humor by saying, come in we re always open. Meaning death does not
have a time limit. Death can happen at any time of the day. In the next story, I m not Leaving Until I

The Benefits of a Liberal Arts Education
The strength of a liberal arts education is the strong, varied foundation it provides over a wide
spectrum of subjects. A liberal arts education is aimed at teaching you how to think. It helps you to
develop strength of mind, and an ordered intellect. This broad based education allows students to
create new theories, discoveries, and connections between fields. With such expansive roots, great
innovators can build and expand from what others have learned, instead of wasting effort on
rediscovery of what is already known. With the knowledge of a subject s strengths and capabilities,
and weaknesses and restrictions, students can combine traits of different subjects to formulate new and
more complicated concepts. New colors can only come from mixing those which already exist. The
pigment of a new color depends on the shades and hues of the colors used to create it. Such is true for
education. The resulting ideas are a sterling product of the compatibility of the subjects blended to
create it. What vocational schools have in central focus, they lose in direct focus. Enormous
concentration in one area pigeon holes, severely limiting the range of career opportunities. A liberal
arts education on the other hand, teaches one how to think, and how to apply this to a variety of
subjects. Both aspects have their strengths and their downfalls. However, one can hardly say the
liberal arts is useless and should be tossed aside in the modern day. A better understanding of
education comes

Why so few girls in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)? Women have always
been viewed as the weaker sex, and society will continue to view them that way unless they do
something about it. In the essay When Bright Girls Decide that Math is a Waste of time , the author
Susan Jacoby discusses the problems women steering clear of math and science subjects because of
the traditional view of a woman. She focused on what causes high school girls to focus on arts courses
instead of STEM courses and what are the effects of it on themselves. The underlying discrimination
amongst boys and girls, stereotypical thinking of parents and teachers that girls are not good at math
eventually decreases the self confidence among girls to solve science and math problems.
Interestingly enough, there are many traditional and social reasons responsible for girls decision of not
getting involved in math and science. However, the main reason why females are behind in the field of
science and technology is Inflicted female disability i.e. turning themselves away from studies. In
adolescence, girls begin to fear that they will be unattractive to boys if they are typed as brains (Susan
114). So, they try to keep themselves away from advanced biology, physics, calculus and other
studious subjects. Although we are in the 21st century and are the supporter of gender equality

Response To Conflict Research Paper
What is conflict? It is a word commonly used by humans, but some can t even define the word.
Conflict is a battle, fight, or struggle, and there are many ways that humans can respond to it.
However, the most effective way to respond is by compromising. Throughout history, compromise has
saved so many lives, and has kept peaceful relations between people. Even though war is a terrible
thing, there are times when it is necessary to effectively settle disputes, as shown by Elie Wiesel, who
survived a concentration camp, and Winston Churchill, who was struggling to defeat Nazi Germany.
Overall, compromise is the most effective way to respond to conflict.
There are multiple examples throughout history where conflict has had a better effect than ... Show

On the battlefield, soldiers are hurt and killed every day. But, according to the Science Museum,
Soldiers not only suffered on the battlefield. Veterans often needed long term care owing to the
physical and psychological impact of war. Especially in the Vietnam War, since the soldiers were
constantly being attacked, but couldn t see their enemy. This messed with their minds, and the ones
still alive today have never been the same since they got back from Vietnam. War not only has
negative effects on soldiers, but also on the townspeople who live near war. The Science Museum also
writes, Civilians, particularly children, can also suffer the effects of trauma. Civilians don t only have
the constant fear of the war getting too close to them, but also the fear of bombs and harmful
chemicals. Again, in the Vietnam War, US forces used a chemical called agent orange to destroy the
foliage of forests so they could see their enemy better. This, though, has had a long term effect on
everyone who was exposed to the chemical by giving them radiation poisoning, or in some cases,
cancer. Also in the Vietnam War, the US dropped bombs on North Vietnam, and hit many houses,
villages, and fields where the civilians grew their food. Many people died who weren t even part of
the war. It can be very hard for countries to regain their strength and money once a long war is
finished. Take Germany, for example. After WW1, Germany s economy was very unstable, so the US
gave them reparation loans to rebuilt it. An article written by Wikipedia says, The German
Government estimated it had paid the equivalent of 67.8 billion gold marks in reparations. And they

A Brief Note On Sociological Theory Development Of African...
Unit 9 DB 1
Appling Sociological Theory Development
Introduction
There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to see if
we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no black serial
killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that keep the statistics
of the number of African American serial killers compared with Caucasians. Based on information
received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he
explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain
statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let
alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S.
So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a
nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out
for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic, and
African American serial killers. Basically, the racial diversification of serial killers usually mirrors that

Honda Ridgeline Case Study
The Honda Ridgeline returns this spring after a two year hiatus. The second generation midsize pickup

Ridgeline s unibody construction as it uses a car like architecture it shares with the Honda Pilot SUV.
What this means is front wheel drive is standard, while all wheel drive is optional. We are bringing our
unique technology and original thinking to the market in a new and challenging concept for a Honda
pickup, said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. We think we

It will also be manufactured stateside at its manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Alabama. That s same
approach Nissan and Toyota have taken to gain acceptance in this all American passenger vehicle
segment. To effectively battle in a competitive segment, Honda has to approach potential customers
with something different. It already knows that it will not and it cannot reach off road enthusiasts. On
the other hand, Honda has designed the Ridgeline to provide excellent on road utility as well as
overall versatility. What should help Honda is the Ridgeline s 3.5 liter, V 6 engine, its only engine
choice. This direct injection motor is paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission, forming the only
powertrain combination offered. Honda hasn t specified numbers yet, but the automaker claims that
among midsize V 6 pickup truck models, it expects to lead the segment in a few key areas.
Specifically, Honda says the new Ridgeline will offer best in class acceleration performance. Further,
the automaker expects the Ridgeline to approach the 1,600 pound payload capacity of competing
trucks. If this truck matches the previous edition s 5,000 pound towing capacity, then it ll provide one

The Pursuit Of Happiness
The Pursuit of Happiness A true basis of what it means to be an American can be thoroughly argued
on the grounds of what constitutes an American, is an American born or is an American made. The
collective identity of the American populace is the shared characteristics, the same drive, which
ultimately results in oneness. The unique American cultural identity is the shared revolutionary nature,
which drives Americans toward progressive social changes in the pursuit of personal happiness. The
original thirteen colonies faced a rather odd situation in their nascent years. Far enough away from
Britain to not completely live under their control, the colonies began to form a new way of defining
themselves. Rather than simply being British colonies they wanted to act as a sovereign nation in their
own right. Fearful of the colonies gaining too much power the British government implemented a set
of Acts, such as the Intolerable Act and Tea Stamp Act, with the intention of them limiting the colonies
freedom and smothering any chance of rebellion. However, the colonist took this as an act of
oppression instead and rose above it in order to regain their personal freedoms. They felt that their
society had plateaued into mediocrity under the rule of King George as they didn t have protected
rights (The American Pageant, 126 133). In the hopes of ridding the colonies of the British rule war
broke out, the crude colonist soldiers fighting against the well polished British army,

Social And Cultural Factors Of Society And Culture
Society and culture play an important role in affecting the health and well being of individuals or a
community. The social and cultural factors that determine the health in a society or a culture are
income, education, social wealth, occupation, societal support, community structure, accessibility of
health services, structural inequality, attitude, cultural beliefs, and legal channels. These factors are
linked to produce a disproportionate burden or risk of death, disease, disability and ill health on a
particular population or group known as health disparities. Health disparities are induced through a
process known as social stratification, which is when individuals in a society are divided into
subgroups base on attributes that are considered important by society such as sex, income, race, and
education. Stratification is responsible for formalizing inequality in the way of unequal access to
valuable resources, such as education, health care, dental care, and housing. The United States is a
country that values good dental health but not everybody have access to oral health care in reasonable
way because of social disparities and social stratification. However, since the Surgeon General
highlighted oral health as a major component of general health and well being, there have been many
initiatives taken by the government bodies, the private sector, and community organizations to help
lessen or eliminate social disparities, and make sure dental care is provided to all

  • 2. Analysis Of Frozen Assets By Diego Rivera Paintings are expression in art form, they reveal the feelings of the painters, and convey the messages. One of the greatest painter that can reflect the lives of the Mexican people is Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera is famous for marrying a fellow Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, but is a notorious womanizer, also famous for his paintings. In one of the paintings, Frozen Assets, Diego Rivera visited New York during the Great Depression depicting the people and city in his paintings with colors with the meaning behind it. Since the color is a big thing in paintings, the color gray that Diego Rivera paint on Frozen Assets, probably represent the people facing in the Great Depression. The first two panels have the color gray because people were suffering and not enough money and the last panel, it has more light and have these bright colors. First, the first panel, the skyscrapers were there when Diego Rivera arrived to New York, perhaps symbolizing that the unfinished city is frozen in time. The machines below the skyscrapers are still there because probably, they are still building more, but stop since there was great numbers of unemployment, the machines perhaps have stop working at that time. The grayish color on the buildings probably represent that money ran out and people are facing the consequences of the Great Depression. It s an idea that has failed in recent legislative sessions, but backers are hoping they ve found the right formula for success in 2009. There are many appealing arguments on the side of pro gambling groups. Keeping gambling money that is now going to Louisiana and Oklahoma in Texas is one popular idea. Reviving the state s horse raising industry by allowing slot machines at racetracks is another. Some advocates want to help struggling Indian tribes develop their economies through gambling. Additionally, this session is the first for new Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus, who has family ties to the horse raising industry. This creates a potential conflict of interest should any bills related to casinos at horse racing tracks come before the House. To deflect criticism, Straus has peremptorily recused himself from any role in considering such legislation. However, Straus created the committees which will oversee gambling issues, assigned members to them and selected which bills are referred to which committees. So far, most of the gambling legislation filed in the Texas House has been referred to committee. That filed in the Texas Senate, where Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst presides, has not been referred. To his credit, Straus did not pack any of the committees dealing with gambling. The Licensing and Administration Committee, through which most gambling goes, retains roughly the same percentage of members for and against gambling as the previous committee under Speaker Tom Craddick. In both cases, the committee leaned slightly toward expanding gambling. Current Legislation. • 5. Choices in Robert Forst´s The Road Not Taken and Stopping... Life is based on the choices that people make. Daily, people face choices that have positive and negative outcomes in life. For example, deciding to go out on a Saturday night, instead of doing an important poetry paper; perhaps achieving a good grade is not on the agenda for Saturday. Consequently, this leaves a person with regret as they reflect back on their D mark. An example of a positive choice, is graduating college and starting a career. However, there are choices in life that are not simple to make. Choices such as the ones that alter one s path in life. It would be great if there was always a guiding light to show people the way. Robert Frost wrote many didactic poems with the intent to teach people about decision making. The poems The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , are both didactic in nature because they reveal a common theme of life changing decisions. The poem The Road Not Taken , focuses on the theme of choices. Frost accomplished the theme by using conflict and imagery. Every single person, at one point in their life or another, faces a fork on the road that causes a conflict. Conflict on choices, begins an inner battle within one s self and it causes turmoil. For example, the quote Two roads diverge in a yellow wood, / And sorry I could not travel both (Frost line 1) , the narrator in this poem has to make one choice; he has to go either one direction or another in life and he cannot look back. Even 50 years after it s release the outsiders theme of the society/class and violences are still uncannily similar to our modern society. The Greasers and the Socs are different when it comes to our society/class. The Society/Class is one of the major reasons why Socs and Greasers always fight. Society/Class makes them think of each other are nothing alike and they actually have things in common. The Socs are prepped who, according to Ponyboy, Jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and gets editorial in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and asset to society the next (Hinton, pg. 3).The Socs love picking on the greasers and starting fights yet, they are a Upper class out of the two. Society views the Socs as rich and classy, and the greasers agree. In the texts Ponyboy says Greasers are almost like hoods, we steal things and drive old souped up cars and hold up gas stations and have gang fights once in a while (Hinton, pg. 3). When our society decides whether or not you re in an upper class or lower class when it comes to what job do they work at, or even what s their salary and where they live. In the Outsiders the Socs and Greasers didn t get along because they both were on different sides of the track. The Socs were on West (rich) side and Greasers East (poor) side. The Truth About Human Papillomavirus The Truth about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and around the world (The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia [CHP], 2009). Today, parents vaccinate their children because vaccinations are recommended by the child s pediatrician and most importantly vaccinations are required for the children to attend school. When a new vaccine becomes available parents are becoming reluctant to get the vaccination for their child fearing negative results brought by myths, rumors, and the uneducated. The HPV vaccination is not required to attend school, so most parents will not follow up to get all the shots necessary in order to protect their child. • 9. Relationship Between Society And The Individual The relationship between the individual and society is not just something found throughout human history, but also within the pages of a literature classic. From the first days of settlement in America, to racial tensions and slavery, to the development of capitalism, there has always been a relationship between the individual and society that is reflected in the written pieces of each time, revealing the connection between oneself and the collective spanning across the centuries. The Scarlet Letter , written in a Puritan world, and Bartleby, The Scrivener , written in capitalist America, are two key examples of literature that expose, detail and discuss the relationship between society and the individual in American history. Alexis de Tocqueville (1835), a French political thinker, stated that individualism is not mere selfishness, but is a mature and calm feeling, which disposes each member of the community to sever himself from the mass of his fellows and to draw apart with his family and friends, so that after he has thus former a little circle of his own, he willingly leaves society at large to itself [...] individualism, at first, only saps the virtues of public life; but in the long run it attacks and destroys all others and is at length absorbed in downright selfishness . In this sense, the relationship between the individual and community is seen as a negative one, with individualism being a selfish time bomb that explodes and destroys the collectiveness needed to ... How could this be one of the happiest places in the world? Upon further study my mind was changed to some degree, in fact I could see myself visiting there some day, but only have studing on the most current laws. I think the United States would be better off if we as a nation thought more about how our individual actions affected those around us. • 22. Summary Of The Father Of Inklings By George Macdonald Widely considered to be the Father of the Inklings, George MacDonald s works are bound to be profound. After all, nobody as inspired as C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien could have been intellectually influenced by just anybody. In this particular essay, MacDonald ventures toward defining fairytales. Within that goal, MacDonald identifies and explores two aspects of fairytales he finds crucial: lawfulness and the capacity for open interpretation. The main assertion that MacDonald makes is that fairytales can never be fully defined. They don t have a nice and simple definition, and those who try to give them one are bound to degrade or simplify some aspects. In order to make the breadth of complexities clear, he draws a comparison between attempting to define fairytales and trying to describe a human being. There are just too many aspects to state, and it s essentially impossible to fully cover everything in a common definition like structure without some sort of simplification. Not wanting to do fairytales such an injustice, he makes clear that he will touch on only some of the aspects of fairytales in the remainder of his essay. With the establishment of that point, MacDonald then goes on to explore the concept of lawfulness as a crucial part in fairytales. According to him, fairytales must include a system of laws, for nothing lawless can show the least reason why it should exist, or could at best have more than an appearance of life (2). • 24. Sophists Sophists have been perpetuated in the history of philosophy primarily due to their most fierce critic Plato and his Gorgias, where Socrates brings profound accusations against the practice of sophists and declares notoriously rhetoric to be a part of flattery (κολακεία, 463c). This paper focuses on the responses to sophists practices by Plato and Aristotle, analysing on the one hand criticism made on their practice, on the other, however, trying to evaluate in which respect the responses of the two philosophers differ. Thus, taking the polemic of sophists as a starting point, the paper moves forward into discussing the fundamental differences in the treatment of rhetoric as perceived by Plato and Aristotle. For this reason (and in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Altogether it seems that Aristotle s basic criticism towards sophists is quite similar to Plato s in his Phaedrus. Namely, the main focus of Aristotle s censure is circling around the claim that previous theoreticians of rhetoric put emphasis on something quite corollary in nature and secondary to the importance of rhetoric. So, according to Aristotle, the contemporary rhetoric handbooks discuss mainly two aspects of a speech: how many different parts a speech has to have (1.1.9, 3.13.1), and how to arise the emotions of the audience (1.1.4). In both cases, however, rhetoricians are in fact discussing something non essential to rhetoric and thus engage themselves with matters outside the subject (1.1.3 ff). Also, because of focusing on these two aspects only, Aristotle argues that the former practitioners have inclined to the forensic branch of oratory (1.1.12), since there the effect is easier to achieve, due to the disinterest of the dicasts (1.1.10). Yet, at times it seems as if Aristotle s real criticism for such rhetoric is targeted on the state and its laws rather than to the contemporary sophists (1.1.4 ff). Whether it is in the punishments or the monsters in each circle, everything has a dual meaning. During the entire book there are seen thirty monsters and five hybrid creatures, each representing something different. Throughout the circles the readers view tortures that are the physical equivalent of their actions. Alighieri exposes societies misdeeds in an ingenious way that leaves the readers smirking with satisfaction at the justice. In the first circle, those unbaptized wander around in a fog. Instead of focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it. Of course adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they do can hugely impact them. The Divine Comedy was written by a man of politics, relating his content to the events of his everyday life. Moving deeper into the substance of the writing, there are three major sections represented, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Furthermore, we will take a look at the nine circles of hell depicted in the Divine Comedy. Dante Alghieri s life leading up to the writing the Divine Comedy. Dante was known for engaging in political agenda through his life and his writing. He was so into politics that he ran, and was elected as one of the six priors of Florence in 1300. The priors were seen as a high group in the public eye and only solidified his involvement in the government. His reign couldn t last forever though, and he was exiled by the Black Guelfs upon their return to power. Dante greatly incorporated Florence politics and society into the Divine Comedy because of his experience and knowledge on the subjects. Dante is recorded to have traveled city to city in the hopes of finding military assistance in finding justice for his unjust exile (Kumar . ) Along with that, he wanted to fight to bring the White Guelfs back in power. Bringing this idea together, Akash Kumar wrote, settling for a presence in the court of certain signori (political and military leaders) such as the Malaspina family in Lunigiana, Cangrande della Scala in Verona, and finally Guido Novello of Ravenna. ... Specifically, a longitudinal data set focused on educational expectations among black (African), colored (mixed) and white (European ancestry) parents and their children in Cape Town, South Africa. Researchers found that there is a strong relationship between the educational expectation among parents and children regardless of race, although the black parents and children had higher expectations than the other races, once socioeconomic factors were controlled for. A liberal arts education is aimed at teaching you how to think. It helps you to develop strength of mind, and an ordered intellect. This broad based education allows students to create new theories, discoveries, and connections between fields. With such expansive roots, great innovators can build and expand from what others have learned, instead of wasting effort on rediscovery of what is already known. With the knowledge of a subject s strengths and capabilities, and weaknesses and restrictions, students can combine traits of different subjects to formulate new and more complicated concepts. New colors can only come from mixing those which already exist. The pigment of a new color depends on the shades and hues of the colors used to create it. Such is true for education. The resulting ideas are a sterling product of the compatibility of the subjects blended to create it. What vocational schools have in central focus, they lose in direct focus. Enormous concentration in one area pigeon holes, severely limiting the range of career opportunities. A liberal arts education on the other hand, teaches one how to think, and how to apply this to a variety of subjects. Both aspects have their strengths and their downfalls. In the essay When Bright Girls Decide that Math is a Waste of time , the author Susan Jacoby discusses the problems women steering clear of math and science subjects because of the traditional view of a woman. She focused on what causes high school girls to focus on arts courses instead of STEM courses and what are the effects of it on themselves. The underlying discrimination amongst boys and girls, stereotypical thinking of parents and teachers that girls are not good at math eventually decreases the self confidence among girls to solve science and math problems. Interestingly enough, there are many traditional and social reasons responsible for girls decision of not getting involved in math and science. Unit 9 DB 1 Appling Sociological Theory Development Introduction There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to see if we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no black serial killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that keep the statistics of the number of African American serial killers compared with Caucasians. Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S. So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out for.
