Roman Aqueducts Research Paper
Roman Aqueducts
Roman aqueducts are still around today and prove the Roman s intelligence of engineering and
knowledge of water structures. Some aqueducts are even operational to this very day! Many of the
aqueducts can be found throughout Rome, and it can really seem impossible that they built them
with how little knowledge and supplies they had at the time. Three notable aqueducts in Rome are
the Porta Maggiore, the Arch of Drusus, and Nero s Aqueducts. Roman aqueducts provided a vast
amount of support to the Roman civilizations. A few of these include drinking water, indoor sewer
systems that swept water away from the city, supplied the bath houses with plentiful water where
the Roman citizens relaxed so often. More uses of aqueducts included ... Show more content on

Waste water was dealt with by the Roman s sewage systems and then released into convenient,
nearby bodies of water. This kept Roman cities free from toxic waste, poisonous chemicals, and
other unwanted materials. It was not uncommon for aqueducts to be used for mining, processing,
manufacturing, and agriculture. Rome s complex water systems ran underneath the city,
throughout 260 miles of rock, and 30 miles of above ground arches. The aqueducts required very
specific positioning for the water to flow at the appropriate speed and direction. Many other
Roman civilizations manipulated and customized this model, tweaking it to fit their needs. It was a
very popular creation. By the 3rd century AD, the city had eleven aqueducts, with sustained an
overwhelming population of over 1,000,000 Roman citizens! If you think about it, this is a great
abundance of water. It s outstanding to think the Roman s developed this with such prehistoric
tools and limited knowledge. The aqueducts provided up to 1 cubic meter of water for every
person in Rome. Most water went to the use of public baths. The aqueduct s conduits were
constructed from many materials, some included stone, brick, and/or concrete. These materials
were used because they were strong and durable enough to carry

Lease Of Capital Lease Vs. Operating Leases
Leases
Capital Leases vs. Operating Leases The most significant difference between a capital lease and
an operating lease is how each is recognized in the financial statements. According to U.S. GAAP,
a lease is capitalized if it fulfills one of the following requirements: transfer of ownership, bargain
purchase option, lease term is 75% or more of economic life, or present value of minimum lease
payments is 90% or more of fair value. All other lease agreements are classified as operating
leases (Wahlen et al., 2013, p.20 15). Operating leases present advantages to the leasee, as they are
not required to be recognized on the balance sheet, yet operating lease agreements must be disclosed
in the notes to the financial statements.

Leases vs. Purchase: Advantages and Disadvantages There are numerous advantages to leasing
over purchasing, the majority of which relate to cash flows, financing issues and financial
reporting. Specifically, leases have the potential to offer a lower interest over the long term and
only lay claim on the leased asset, not on all assets (Wahlen et al., 2013). Additionally, leases do
not constrict cash flows to the same extent as purchasing. For example the statement of cash flows
demonstrates Amazon used $2.4 billion and $121 million to repay capital lease and finance lease
obligations respectively, foregoing the drastically greater cash outflow if Amazon were to purchase
these assets. Furthermore, leasing provides an exit strategy if the location is not conducive to
operations.
Statement of Changes in Financial Position
Memo: Cash Flow Concerns and Recommendations
TO: Jeffrey Bezos, CEO
FROM: Krystle Hernandez, Controller
DATE: September 25, 2016
SUBJECT: Recommendations
Upon reviewing Amazon s statement of cash flows, it appears net cash provided by operating
activities, $11.9 billion, only slightly outweighs net cash used in investing activities, $6.4 billion
and financing activities $3.7 billion by, $1.7 billion. When measured against the previous year,
2014 cash inflows exceeded 2015 by $4.5 billion. The primary causes of the reduced inflows in
2015 can be largely attributed to two causes.

Jap A Economic Power
Japan, to this day, is a major economic power that has major influence on the rest of the world. It
is a nuclear state, and has a GDP of almost 5 trillion USD. Japan wasn t just like this and has gone
through a tremendous period of growth after World War II in 1945. Since then, its economy has
grown through its technological and manufacturing side. When the company was defeated in 1945,
it was in an economic ruin. Everything that came before was in shambles, but little did the country
know there was huge room for growth. (Ohno, 2006)
After Japan was defeated in 1945, Japan was under US occupation. During this time a recovery
strategy was put into place to work with the already in motion political and economic system. The
Japanese entered a period of rapid growth between the years 1950 1970. This growth completely
changed the economy and made Japan one of the best capitalistic economies of its time. Japan was
a major industrialized nation with many new companies coming into power. This would of not
been possible without Subsidies, fukkin loans and US aid. (Ohno, 2006)The Japanese benifeted
from the war because of its close alliance with America and the fact of letting American troops
station in Japan.
War was actually an important factor of economic growth in Japan. Due to the fact of many
factories and companies being wiped during the war, investments were made to bring better
equipment into the factory so that efficiency was highly prioritized. Ohno puts it, New

FUTURE MAKING
As human beings are almost the only species which has perception of future and also has an ability
to take advantages from the future by changing their current behaviours (David Suzuki, 2013),
people are enthusiastic about evaluating new objects or unusual events, to maintain their well
being. Hybrid Making , in some of highlighted discussions, has been called the most revolutionary
invention in this century; which is somewhat exaggerate, but shows the high expectation and
reputation obtained by hybrid making with its ultimate potential. Thus this ... Show more content on

Although, there has not been proved by certain evidence that society could be dehumanised by
technology which has been created to expand human s ability; it seems that people would be worried
of the impacts when something cannot be understand with the common knowledge. This is not
difficult to understand, when a staff of Volkswagen died by a punch of an automatic robot in the
assembling factory, people had a doubt that the robot possibly attacked this worker (Time
Magazine, 2015); if it was not about an automatic robot, but a cast machine or a swing lathes which
have caused numerous injuries and deaths, perhaps nobody could have a thinking of that. Actually,
automatic robots do their job with specific programmes which cannot offer any intelligence to
attack someone. Likewise, technology, especially the mass production, has never betrayed its
purpose, which is to increase the productivity, but just because of its different thinking aspect
from crafting, which aspect is based on specific theories and unfriendly interfaces, people
commence a crisis of losing the original joys of crafting things. Accordingly, hybrid making
benefits in this view because of its easy understand process producing objects with addition of
material, layer by layer, which is similar with people s thinking of crafting and building. This
advantage also

The Underground Play
Entry No. 14 I designated Mount Ebott as the location to which the subjects would enter the
WORLD. After watching the story of the Underground play out, it seemed a fitting place for a
new beginning. The first five made it through without any problems. Subject 06, however, was
not so lucky. She was shredded , for lack of a better term, and scattered into the Void as Gaster
had been. I am currently running a diagnostic in an attempt to figure out exactly what went
wrong. Subjects 01, 02, and 03 displayed a fair amount of hostility towards the other two before I

And having your best friend around while you do that is too much past for you to handle?
Nazaire sighed. It s not like we can t find each other later. I shook my head at him, a twinge of
anger sparking in my chest. Whatever, I said turning away and trudging further up the mountain,
good luck with whatever it is you plan to do. He headed in the opposite direction without another
word. He didn t stop me. Why didn t he stop me? Feeling hurt and confused, I just continued
walking, and allowed my mind to wander worlds away. Away from the frustration of being left
alone in an unfamiliar place, no matter how gorgeous it was. Thus distracted, it was no wonder I
didn t notice the gaping hole in the earth before foolishly falling into it. Fortunately, I managed
to slow my decent at the last second using wind magic, and landed on my feet onto a bed of
golden flowers. Nice job, genius, drawled a voice from nearby, you mind getting off the flowers?
Where are you? I asked, tiptoeing cautiously out of the flowerbed. Down here, replied one of the
flowers, an irritated expression creasing his face. Oh, hello, I greeted him tilting my head curiously.

Essay on Review We Have No Right to Happiness
Review on We have No Right to Happiness
By: C.S. Lewis
In class we read three different essays including The Dying family by J.H. Plumb, Does
Fatherhood Make You Happy? By Daniel Gilbert, and We Have No Right to Happiness by C.S.
Lewis. Though the purpose of these essays can be very controversial to some, after reviewing all
three essays I have picked my favorite, or the one I agree with and disagree with most. We have no
Right to Happiness makes a very good argument on the point the author is trying to make. Some
people believe that happiness is a right and is supposed to be given out, or is required to be
provided by the government, like a right. In all reality that is true, but to an extent, we do have a

But there still is their pursuit of happiness. Guaranteed your parents social status was not just
given to them, nor will yours, your parents open that door for you to pursue your happiness. I
guess whether you agree on this point or not would have something to do with where you come
from or what you have been provided with up until this point, in which ever case government is
not required to make you happy as an individual. I believe government already helps out people
too much already, even if there not as deserving or willing to work for it. Though the right to
happiness is chiefly claimed for the sexual impulse, it seems to me impossible that the matter
should stay there Lewis said. Sexual happiness is on a whole different aspect. It s probably not
in your best interest to act on every sexual related impulse you have to make you happy.
Although you are entitled too, sexually fulfilling your happiness is not true happiness, it seems
to be very superficial. In this case, leaving your wife to marry another isn t ideal, on the other
hand to some it would be. Overall, although these situations arise, it is probably not in your best
well being to depend on them. Life is short. I wouldn t blame you for trying to make it a good one
but depending on it will only set you up for

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay
Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if
Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the
eyes for about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home dГ©cor. Burton in
collaboration with Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty
and a beast who falls in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence,
peace, and all those qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have.
Additionally, the beauty Kim (Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise.
Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin)
treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon
discovered when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains
fame around the community and his disability becomes a tool.
Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the
typical idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a
good helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful
sister approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another
phase like ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock
set for Harvard with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad.
The neighbors are the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad.
Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards
psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the
innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is
hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores
the debts of Edwards mind through his art because it

Overcoming The Challenges Of Corraditional Family And...
Nontraditional families have become more and more common today, these include stepfamily and
blended family systems, single parent families, and same sex couples. It is hard enough to cope
with the challenges however, when you add the military culture it can become even tougher to deal
and overcome these challenges. We will explore the nontraditional familyand some of their
challenges.
Stepfamilies
Divorced spouses subsystem can impact the entire family in a positive or negative manner. For
the positive effects, we can see that these couples that tend to support each other are able to
really act as civilized adults and move on. This is generally because of the commitment to the
child(ren), by years of common history and/or friends, or genuine concern for each other (Hall,
2016, p.123) . When the positive effects occur, one can see healthy relationships built with each
other, the child(ren), and the new partner as well. This allows for the child(ren) to get the proper
discipline and guidance that is very much needed in children today. On the flip side of this the
negative effects can be caused by revenge, distrust, or anger (Hall, 2016, p.123) . This can cause
tension among the ex couple, family, friends, child(ren), or even the new relationship. This makes it
very difficult for the child(ren) involved to adjust to their new found lifestyle. Another challenge
here is when the military member lives some distance from the child(ren) home; if the member lives

Comparing On Keeping A Notebook By Joan Didion And Tim O ...
Joan Didion and Tim O Brien have many differences and similarities in their writing. In On
Keeping a Notebook, Didion emphasizes how she keeps a notebook, not a diary, and the differences
between a notebook and a diary. She makes numerous other points along the way throughout the
writing. O Brien writes about the Vietnam War and emphasizes items that the men carry, switching
from point of views sporadically. Both authors write with a reminiscent tone, as if they are looking
back on old memories and jotting them down in a notebook. Even though Didion stays in one point
of view throughout the whole piece, and O Brien switches between characters and points of view
rather often, one can still see the similarities in the way they write. Didion cannot remember exactly
what might have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Who started it, and when, and why? (O Brien 38). Neither is fully positive in the way they write.
A point made in both pieces has to do with stretching the truth somewhat to make for a better
story. Didion mentions how with a diary, one would have to write exactly what happened,
whereas with a notebook, she feels she only has to jot down some things. Like she would be
able to expand on what happened later, make it up as she goes along. And yet it is precisely that
fictitious crab that makes me see the afternoon all over again, a home movie run all too often,
the father bearing gifts, the child weeping, an exercise in family love and guilt (Didion 83). She
says how part of her story about the cracked crab was untrue, and exaggerated, however it is that
part that makes her remember and believe it all the more. O Brien plays with similar ideas about
truth, elaborating on it in the chapter How to Tell a True War Story. The story Sanders tells about
the men and the mountain, speaks of strange sounds, almost sounds like it s a story about ghosts,
and he mentions how he doesn t really remember all of the details, so some of it may be
exaggerated.

Analysis Of Edward O. Wilson s The Future Of Life
Edward O. Wilson in his book The Future of Life (2002) writes two bi oppositional passages that
illustrate two extreme sides of an argument on environmentalism. Wilson writes both passages with
the same rhetorical patterning and reasoning to show how these arguments are not productive,
because all they are doing throughout these passages are attacking the other side through pointing
out their wrongdoings. In both passages, there is a question of illegitimacy and skepticism brought
into light. The [environmental] wackos have a broad and mostly hidden agenda that always comes
from the left ... Their aim is to expand the government[.] (7 10) Here Wilson uses an ethical appeal

goal of the environmentalists. However, the environmentalist passage includes Their conception
of the public trust is a strong military establishment and subsides for loggers and ranchers. (53

are. The point Wilson is really trying to make with the combination of these two statements is how
they are nothing but unproductive. Instead of saying these things about the other side, it would be
more beneficial to reinforce beliefs and stances, build your own case up, end the self righteousness,
and end the idea that their side is superior without explanation. There is little to be won from

The Importance Of Narrative Writing
Narrative Writing is a story that is told and the order in which it is told. Some stories have
narrators and some without. The narrator is normally a series of characters or one character who

narrative writing. The first rule of narrative writing is, the report should always be written in
first person. When the narrative explains first person, the narrative is stating that using I or Me
in the reports identify the author of the person who is writing the investigative report. If I or Me
is not being used to write the investigative reports, the investigation could be sought as made up

along with first person view. According to the text, If you write in the past tense, you will
develop consistency and, as a result, create a report that is professional and easy to read. With this
type of consistency, the reports are easily believable to the reader and makes it easy to follow the

Gender Stereotypes In Full House
Full house is an American sitcom television series that s about a widowed father named, Danny

unfortunately, due to the the increasing costs of producing the show the series was cancelled on
May 23, 1995. As a young child, Full House may have seemed as your ordinary American sitcom
that is about love, friendship, and family. But that is not the case in this show, as young adults and
re watching the show again, you may stumble upon the deeper meaning and messages behind the
show that is significant to society today. Such as, Full house breaks genderstereotypes and it has
strong, real, and important life lessons for children. During the time of the 80s, there were many
television shows that portrayed traditional families. A traditional family, which is two married
parents of the opposite gender and their child or children. Even though, Full house doesn t
necessary mirror the traditional family valuesthat all society knows, it s one of the shows that
helped break gender stereotypes. For example, the whole family tradition norm was that women
would be the caregivers and men would provide for their family. In Bittney Davis article,

Alfred Hitchcock And Psycho And Peter Shaffer
Alfred Hitchcock in the film Psycho and Peter Shaffer in his stage production Equus both explore
the true nightmares that manifest from sexual and emotional repression. The writers emphasise the
motives and the reason for the characters actions opposed to how the causations of this repression
occurred. Conversely, both works draw on the common theme of the disturbed human psyche,
offering a critical perspective on the upbringing of each individual with regards to their early
development, each characters subcontious fixations and abnormal behaviours through the use

This is seen to when Shaffer displays Alan, front and in centre in order to intensify the effect
bringing true significance to his actions. Alan is seen to thrash himself as he chants, Flankus begat
Spankus. And Spankus begat... By Shaffer placing Alan in this position audience is drawn away
from Frank presenting the scene and is drawn to Alan as the audience is in horror as Alan presents
his ritualistic behaviour. The nouns Flankus and Spankus all have symbolistic features all linking
back to horses, moreover, this is further interconnected through the symbolism displayed through
the bridle . By Alans new found god, he appeals to Franks ideals of a disinterest of Christianity.
Although, by the chanting and ritualistic recreation of the martyrdom of Jesus Christ through self
punishment and torture, Alan succeeds in fulfilling the religious worship and ideologies that Dora
wants Allan to follow.
Further to this sexual and emotional repression, both Shaffer and Hitchcock realise the explosive
and unsafe nature possessed by the characters in indescribable and unknown behaviours. Equus
portrayal of the Alan Strang s infatuation with horses indicates the filtration and display of
emotions through a widely accepted activity by society. Alan s adoration for with the horses
however is his key link to his sexual repression as Alan describes how his horse Nugget left sweat

To What Extent Can the Modern Conservative Party Be...
. To what extent can the modern conservative party be considered One nation ? (25 marks)
One nation is an idea that is based upon principles such as paternalism, and it is the name given to
describe this particular faction of the conservative party. One nation conservatives is the name
given to the followers of the ideas presented by Benjamin Disrael, and the belief in changing Britain
from two nations i.e the rich and the poor, and instead creating one. Benjamin Disraeli adopted one
nation conservatism for both ethical and electoral reasons. Before he became leader of the
Conservative Party, Disraeli had announced that, as a result of the Reform Act of 1867 the party

For example David Cameron (DC) controversially changed the outlook of the conservative party
and claimed it to be The party of the NHS . He also believes that state intervention within
healthcare s needed and vital, as well as being against any privatisation of the NHS. Although
the contrasting Right wing faction of the conservative party Thatcherities oppose this, as
Margret Thatcher reduced the size of the state, and they believe State intervention to be negative
as it took a lot of industries out of public control and into the state. However; overall even though
DC claims he is against any privatisation of the NHS, there is a continuing growth in services
being provided by private health care companies, although I do believe that on the matter of the
NHS DC has moved the conservative party towards the centre as DC and the modern conservative
party have outspent Labour on the NHS, which is what he promised to do. Therefore to some
degree the modern conservative party can be considered more One nation . Thirdly, a one nation
principle is Social Duty, and an example of DC supporting social duty is that during the 2010
election, he launched his main one nation idea, this being The Big Society . This envisaged
volunteers and charities taking the place of government to carry out their social duties and
responsibilities in order to improve their communities. Dc s key argument was that the public

Symptoms And Treatment Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Essay
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or sometimes called Lou Gehrig s Disease,
is a progressive neurological disease affecting the nerves that control voluntary muscle movement.
It is the most common type of motor neuron disease. The body isn t able to operate as it normally
does due to the muscles weakening overtime. As the disease progresses, it starts to damage nerves
of other vital areas of the body. When the body isn t able to breath the way it should causing
respiratory failure and other things start to go wrong, the body has no choice, but to shut down and
die. (ALS Association)
Lou Gehrig s disease came into public awareness from a famous New York Yankees baseball player
who was forced to retire after developing the disease and died two years later. It was originally
discovered in 1869 by a French neurologist named Jean Martin Charcot. He was the first man to be
able to connect motor neurons in the spinal cord to the ALS disease. (Medical News Today)
The name Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is derived from Greek origin. Amyotrophic broken down
with A meaning no, myo referring to muscles, and trophic meaning nourishment. The three roots
equal the meaning of no muscle nourishment . When muscles lose their nourishment, they are not
able to stay strong and can withhold their shape. Lateral being the spinal cord and its position to
the body and sclerosis is defined as abnormal hardening of body tissue. When body tissue is

Comparing Sacrifice In Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
When deciding between two items, their benefits are weighed against each other, and the more
favorable selection is seen as the better. The 1937 publication of the book Of Mice and Men by
John Steinbeck provides a story about friendship and sacrifice, through the connection between two
unlikely travelers, George Milton and Lennie Small. With a parallel story, the 1992 MGM film
adaptation of the book directed by Gary Sinise offers a second perspective to the same subject. Each
with its own strengths, both forms generally convey a similar story, but with slightly different
elements. As each to their own, a portion of the divided crowd favors the novel, rather than the film.
Although the reasons are plentiful, some argue that the events and emotions... Show more content

Rather, the depth created by the scenes absent from the film outdoes that created by the
additional scenes present in it. For example, when the workers are away at town, Lennie and
Candy find themselves in Crook s room, where the three converse about the possibility of
owning land. However, Curley s wife enters and, when Crooks demands that she leave, she
belittles him, telling him, you keep your place then, Nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree
so easy it ain t even funny (Steinbeck 81). Her diatribe at Crooks clearly shows the distinction
made between herself, as a white woman, and Crooks, as a colored man. In an attempt to raise
herself, she shows that he is inferior and powerless, due to the color of his skin. Also, with the use
of the word Nigger, Steinbeck communicates how the society within the book perceives African
Americans as subordinate. With the inferiority brought unto Crooks, he emphasizes upon racism,
in such a way that the modern audience is reminded of the past acceptance of the concept. By
focusing on racism, Steinbeck also focuses on the social hierarchy present on the ranch, in which
African Americans are considered to be the lowest, in spite of one s gender and capabilities.
Through this one event, Steinbeck conveys the ideas of racism and social hierarchy, to which the
film lacks. Thus, by providing the story with

The Representation of Miss Emily as an Extended Metaphor...
The Representation of Miss Emily as an Extended Metaphor in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
The short story, A Rose for Emily, took place in the southern town of Jefferson sometime in the
beginning of the twentieth century. One could say that Miss Emily lived and died under certain
circumstances that could compare to how the Confederacy lived and died as a result of the Civil
War. Miss Emily could represent an extended metaphor for the Old South and its traditions and
customs. Faulkner wrote her character and her appearance, the town, her relationship with the
world, and even her home, to reflect the social background of the Old South, as defined as the time
period between the Colonial Era and Reconstruction.
Emily is a person that with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example that furthers this conclusion is the concept of Emily having to pay taxes, and her refusal
to do so; the North imposed taxes that the South did not wish to have to pay just like Miss Emily
and the town of Jefferson.
Emily s appearance somewhat fell from over the years. She used to be a beautiful woman in her
prime, but when the deputy went to her house to ask her about paying taxes, she looked much
different than before she closed herself up into her house. In that aspect, Emily could be a
metaphor for the appearance of the South during its decline. During war, the North started total
warfare; the total destruction of the South. In events such as Sherman s March to the sea, the
Union Soldiers destroyed a lot of the South. Emily appears to be a ruin of what she once was, just
as the South looked beautiful before war and messy during the Reconstruction period. The same
unkemptness and change from magnificent to unsightly could be said about her house as well.
Miss Emily stays in the confines of her own home for a number of years after her father s death.
The only contact she has is with her servant who takes care of her by getting groceries and
helping her around the house. Her isolation from the world is due to the fact that she cannot accept
the fact that her father is dead, for he was all she had in the first place. This reflects

Our team s debate topic covers a controversial issue within the Affordable Care Act in America,

Americans access to affordable, quality health insurance, with a goal of reducing growth in

Americans who will consume healthcare less frequently are needed to subsidize the cost of older
sicker ones (Oliphant, 2013). In order to achieve affordable health insurance and include the
benefits of the packages, not only must Americans actively participate in the healthcare law but
younger Americans especially. In theory, the law would create large pools of younger, healthier
participants whose premiums would help offset the cost of providing care for older policyholders
who use the health care system more (Cohen, 2013). As the deadline approaches for Americans to
shop and purchase healthcare packages, the desperate need for compliance by young Americans
has increased and has been communicated to the People. According to CNN News reporters,

A Short Note On Generation X And The Workplace Essay
Millennials and Generation X in the Workplace
Have you noticed the faces in your workplace getting younger before your eyes? You are not just
imagining it! If the statistics being released on US demographics are accurate, millennials are
slated to be the largest generation yet. This means that they will also make up the largest chunk of
the labor pool for many years to come. Millennials, along with the smaller but significant
Generation X, are replacing retiring baby boomers at an increasing pace. With this reality, it is
obvious that businesses gain by learning what these younger generations want, and how they can
tailor the work environment to address these desires.
Getting over the Stereotypes
To unlock the great potential contained within these younger generations, employers need to
discard the stereotypes projected by the sensationalist media. This is not to say that these groups
cannot be thought of in general terms. The environment that each group was born into and the
opportunities offered to them work together to create a common history which can be a very
powerful force in shaping the needs and desires of these generations. However, it would be a
mistake to only rely on mainstream media depictions of these generations.
The stereotypes the media reports tend to focus on negative qualities, creating a skewed perception
of the ethics and values of these groups. Generation X was initially described as unfocused,

Fermentation is undoubtedly the most important stage to achieve the taste of the beer, because
while sugar transformation into alcohol and carbonic gas takes place, yeast produces other
substances in very small quantities, which are responsible for the aroma and flavor of the beer. The
development of chemical analysis procedures that took place during recent years allowed a more
comprehensive understanding about beer composition. It is therefore during the fermentation
process that the beer style is created. This process normally will take a month.
These two steps are shown by figure 1.
Figure 1
The packaging process occurs after the fermentation. The beer flows to the keg, canning, and
bottling lines when it our of the government cellar. There are five canning lines, three bottling
lines, and a keg line can be run in the Winston Salem brewery. The capacity for can lines is 1300
cans per minute, for bottle lines is 900 bottles per minute, and for keg line is 340 half barrels per
hour. For the five can lines, all the brands of beer can be canned at the same time, or one brand
of beer can be canned with two different types at the same time. For three bottle lines, different
bottle shapes and sizes can be filled at the same time, and new bottles and returnable bottles can
be separated when filling and packaging. The packaging process also can be divided into two
steps: 1. filling and capping and 2. pasteurizing. The packaging will

The PanthГ©on
The PanthГ©on is one of the most popular attractions in Paris. It is famous for a fabulous 19th
century church and now a civil temple.
The PanthГ©on is located near the Sorbonne University and the Jardin du Luxembourg and looks
over the Quartier Latin. According to history, King Clovis was chosen this place as a minster to

Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson
Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson demonstrated unimaginable leadership skills in
an effort to accomplish their respective agendas. Through the use of moral leadership, King
would rise to become the head of the Civil Rights Movement by means of civil disobedience and
nonviolent resistance. MLK began as a Baptist Minister, but after seeing the difference he could
make in the world, decided to stand up for what he felt was right. Johnson, on the other hand,
used political leadership in order to make a name for himself as President of the United States.
LBJ was willing to do whatever it took to accomplish his goals, even if it meant going against the
Southern Democrats who had elected him to political office. One of these risks... Show more

Niebuhr believed that the world was full of evils and oppressions that individuals needed to
fight against. People should not stand back and allow the horrors around them to continue, but
instead fight back in whatever way they can. MLK would take these teachings and apply them
to his ideas of Gandhi s nonviolent protests. Individuals who are in the minority, and thus unable
to take drastic action, would benefit from the use of nonviolence. This strategy would allow
Black Americans to seek justice and equality without truly disturbing the current relationship
with White Americans. King s plan was to allow his religious and political ideals to run on the
same moral edge, something that Reinhold Niebuhr had surely allowed for in his ideology
(Branch, 81 7). Martin Luther King, Jr. was able to use this religious and moral idea of
nonviolence to unite Black Americans who were tired of their oppression. Violence and drastic
action had proven to arguably make their situation worse, meaning that something as different
as peaceful civil disobedience could prove to work. By the time of the 1963 I Have a Dream speech
at the March on Washington, King had become the voice of the various perspectives of life as a
Black American. He now expressed the universal voice of all his people, and he was not afraid to
use it in the pursuit of equality for Blacks (Branch, 881 3). Martin Luther King s Birmingham
campaign would prove to be the

Some aqueducts are even operational to this very day! Many of the aqueducts can be found throughout Rome, and it can really seem impossible that they built them with how little knowledge and supplies they had at the time. Three notable aqueducts in Rome are the Porta Maggiore, the Arch of Drusus, and Nero s Aqueducts. Roman aqueducts provided a vast amount of support to the Roman civilizations. This kept Roman cities free from toxic waste, poisonous chemicals, and other unwanted materials. It was not uncommon for aqueducts to be used for mining, processing, manufacturing, and agriculture. Rome s complex water systems ran underneath the city, throughout 260 miles of rock, and 30 miles of above ground arches. The aqueducts required very specific positioning for the water to flow at the appropriate speed and direction. Many other Roman civilizations manipulated and customized this model, tweaking it to fit their needs. It was a very popular creation. By the 3rd century AD, the city had eleven aqueducts, with sustained an overwhelming population of over 1,000,000 Roman citizens! If you think about it, this is a great abundance of water. It s outstanding to think the Roman s developed this with such prehistoric tools and limited knowledge. The aqueducts provided up to 1 cubic meter of water for every person in Rome. Most water went to the use of public baths. The aqueduct s conduits were constructed from many materials, some included stone, brick, and/or concrete. Operating Leases Leases Capital Leases vs. Operating Leases The most significant difference between a capital lease and an operating lease is how each is recognized in the financial statements. According to U.S. GAAP, a lease is capitalized if it fulfills one of the following requirements: transfer of ownership, bargain purchase option, lease term is 75% or more of economic life, or present value of minimum lease payments is 90% or more of fair value. All other lease agreements are classified as operating leases (Wahlen et al., 2013, p.20 15). Leases vs. Purchase: Advantages and Disadvantages There are numerous advantages to leasing over purchasing, the majority of which relate to cash flows, financing issues and financial reporting. Specifically, leases have the potential to offer a lower interest over the long term and only lay claim on the leased asset, not on all assets (Wahlen et al., 2013). Additionally, leases do not constrict cash flows to the same extent as purchasing. For example the statement of cash flows demonstrates Amazon used $2.4 billion and $121 million to repay capital lease and finance lease obligations respectively, foregoing the drastically greater cash outflow if Amazon were to purchase these assets. Furthermore, leasing provides an exit strategy if the location is not conducive to operations. For the positive effects, we can see that these couples that tend to support each other are able to really act as civilized adults and move on. On the flip side of this the negative effects can be caused by revenge, distrust, or anger (Hall, 2016, p.123) . This can cause tension among the ex couple, family, friends, child(ren), or even the new relationship. This makes it very difficult for the child(ren) involved to adjust to their new found lifestyle. (25 marks) One nation is an idea that is based upon principles such as paternalism, and it is the name given to describe this particular faction of the conservative party. One nation conservatives is the name given to the followers of the ideas presented by Benjamin Disrael, and the belief in changing Britain from two nations i.e the rich and the poor, and instead creating one. Benjamin Disraeli adopted one nation conservatism for both ethical and electoral reasons. He also believes that state intervention within healthcare s needed and vital, as well as being against any privatisation of the NHS. Although the contrasting Right wing faction of the conservative party Thatcherities oppose this, as Margret Thatcher reduced the size of the state, and they believe State intervention to be negative as it took a lot of industries out of public control and into the state. However; overall even though DC claims he is against any privatisation of the NHS, there is a continuing growth in services being provided by private health care companies, although I do believe that on the matter of the NHS DC has moved the conservative party towards the centre as DC and the modern conservative party have outspent Labour on the NHS, which is what he promised to do. Therefore to some degree the modern conservative party can be considered more One nation . Thirdly, a one nation principle is Social Duty, and an example of DC supporting social duty is that during the 2010 election, he launched his main one nation idea, this being The Big Society . This envisaged volunteers and charities taking the place of government to carry out their social duties and responsibilities in order to improve their communities. The 1937 publication of the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck provides a story about friendship and sacrifice, through the connection between two unlikely travelers, George Milton and Lennie Small. With a parallel story, the 1992 MGM film adaptation of the book directed by Gary Sinise offers a second perspective to the same subject. Each with its own strengths, both forms generally convey a similar story, but with slightly different elements. As each to their own, a portion of the divided crowd favors the novel, rather than the film. Although the reasons are plentiful, some argue that the events and emotions... For example, when the workers are away at town, Lennie and Candy find themselves in Crook s room, where the three converse about the possibility of owning land. However, Curley s wife enters and, when Crooks demands that she leave, she belittles him, telling him, you keep your place then, Nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain t even funny (Steinbeck 81). Her diatribe at Crooks clearly shows the distinction made between herself, as a white woman, and Crooks, as a colored man. In an attempt to raise herself, she shows that he is inferior and powerless, due to the color of his skin. Also, with the use of the word Nigger, Steinbeck communicates how the society within the book perceives African Americans as subordinate. With the inferiority brought unto Crooks, he emphasizes upon racism, in such a way that the modern audience is reminded of the past acceptance of the concept. By focusing on racism, Steinbeck also focuses on the social hierarchy present on the ranch, in which African Americans are considered to be the lowest, in spite of one s gender and capabilities. Through this one event, Steinbeck conveys the ideas of racism and social hierarchy, to which the film lacks. Thus, by providing the story with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Representation of Miss Emily as an Extended Metaphor in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily The short story, A Rose for Emily, took place in the southern town of Jefferson sometime in the beginning of the twentieth century. One could say that Miss Emily lived and died under certain circumstances that could compare to how the Confederacy lived and died as a result of the Civil War. Miss Emily could represent an extended metaphor for the Old South and its traditions and customs. An example that furthers this conclusion is the concept of Emily having to pay taxes, and her refusal to do so; the North imposed taxes that the South did not wish to have to pay just like Miss Emily and the town of Jefferson. Emily s appearance somewhat fell from over the years. She used to be a beautiful woman in her prime, but when the deputy went to her house to ask her about paying taxes, she looked much different than before she closed herself up into her house. In that aspect, Emily could be a metaphor for the appearance of the South during its decline. During war, the North started total warfare; the total destruction of the South. In events such as Sherman s March to the sea, the Union Soldiers destroyed a lot of the South. Emily appears to be a ruin of what she once was, just as the South looked beautiful before war and messy during the Reconstruction period. The same unkemptness and change from magnificent to unsightly could be said about her house as well. Miss Emily stays in the confines of her own home for a number of years after her father s death.
