Effects Of Invasive Plants
The devastating effects of rangeland invasive plants have influencedeffect many natural resources, as
well as humans lives, without them knowing about it. The impacts of the invasion vary from place to
place. Invasive plant species have numerous effects on the ecosystem goods and services provided by
rangelands ( Basics of Invasive Species ). The resources that are gathered from rangelands are
affectedeffected by the invasive plant species, all of those effects become one great issue that humans
need to try and solve. Livestock is one of the major factors that are impacted by the introduction of
invasive plants. These unwanted plants impact grazing lands by lowering yield and quality of forage
for livestock, impeding access to desirable forage, poisoning animals, increasing costs of managing
and producing livestock, and reducing grazing land value (Techline News). All of these impacts are
the part of a larger ecological impact that can kill livestock, and other plants and animals living in that
area. All of these ecological issues create a big enough picture to see what is really going on when one
plant invades, the invasions hurt the environment and ecosystem.
Several financial impacts of these invasive rangeland plants, appear in the livestock market as well as
many other agricultural related markets; these losses affecteffect all consumers that would purchase or
use agricultural related products. The beliefs of many people are that rangeland plant invasions will

Economic Inequality In America
Economic inequality reigns as a massive divide in the United States of America. Many active policies
cause people to occupy an economic level which is meant to benefit those above them. With that said,
there have been many efforts taken in hopes of reducing the current levels of economic inequality, but
with these efforts, money and wealth will have to be taken from the rich to give to the poorer. This is
where the problem lies with wealth inequality many have to sacrifice for those whom they presume to
be unworthy of benefiting from their fortunes. Education, wealth, race, and power all play a role as to
why action will not be taken to reduce the current levels of inequality in America.
The rich see their money and how it will benefit them. In What the Rich Won t Tell You, Rachel
Sherman addresses the mentality of the rich. Some rich people feel the need to conceal their wealth
when it benefits them, and on the other hand, they will flaunt their wealth when it benefits them. For
instance, Sherman interviewed a financially well off, middle aged woman named Beatrice. Beatrice
stated that she was uncomfortable with the inequality between herself and her nanny, a Latina
immigrant. (Sherman) Although her wealth made her uncomfortable, and she would remove price tags
from her clothing and food, Beatrice was unwilling to suppress her lifestyle to lift the Latina nanny s
financial situation any higher. The wealthy simply described themselves as normal people who

Hip Of Hip Hop Music
Hip Hops Redemption Hip hop music is described as, a subculture especially of inner city youths who
are typically devotees of rap music . (Merriam.com) Hip hop music is one of the most listened to
genres in history. Hip hop music started in the mid 1970 s, but some say that it started much earlier.
Many people today would argue that Hip Hop is disgraceful now a days, and that it has no positive
message given. Me personally, I would agree since the days have changed over time. I could also
argue that music as a whole has changed and wouldn t always be the same, but that s not the main
point. The main point is to show how Hip hop music is actually positive. For starters, music has
always been very special to people. Music can affect people, even more than people affect people.
Think about it, even in the bible days, Lucifer was the ruler over music. God s most beautiful angel
controlled music and the music set the tone in heaven. Yes, music has a very strong impact on humans,
animals, and deities out there. Hip Hop is an awesome form of music. Hip Hop started off from poetry.
Yes Langston Hughes would be known as a lyricist in today s era. It was meant to express the troubles
and sadness throughout the lives of blacks. Hip Hop has gone through it s changed throughout time.
As technology advanced Hip hop has also advanced too an extent . Usually the older generation, when
hearing todays Hip hop music would say, How do you listen to all this

Role Of Community In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society Of The...
Community
A community is a group of people interacting in a meaningful way with regard to something they
share in common. It used to be that a community, in order to function as a group and interact, had to
be in the same geographic location or at least within driving distance. Since the internet has now
become so widely available we find that people with common interests and goals are reaching across
vast distances to interact with each other. There is even language translation software available that
can translate other languages into one s own. These have begun to break down previous barriers such
as distance and language but even cultural barriers may become a thing of the past. In Mim Udovich s
A Secret Society of the Starving, the author describes a community that meets online to share feelings
about their eating disorders. In Shari Caudron s Befriending Barbie, the author writes of her
experience at a Barbie convention. Not only are online communities functioning in almost every way
as a cohesive group, but they have the potential to transcend distance, language and ... Show more

After Shari is acquainted with some of the other convention women, Debie tells Sharie how the Barbie
community has helped her. When her son was killed, her friends didn t know what to say and dropped
out of her life. Her friends in the online Barbie community did just the opposite. They encouraged her
by sending her letters, care packages, and raising money for charity in her son s name. She tells
Sharie, I am so blessed. This is the closest circle of friends I ve ever had (Cauldron 173). Debie s
online community was able to offer much more support and compassion than her physical community.
This is because the online world lacks the awkwardness of face to face relationships, which in this

B) Diets are lower in calories compared to a typical western diet.
In the context of present time, one can therefore make two general assumptions in regard to the
question of what constitutes a healthy diet: 1) generally, the less a food is processed the better. 2) Eat
less eat what is adequate, do not over eat.
Generally, the less a food is processed the better
He reason for this is simple. For 99.9% of human existence, our species lived on foods that were either
raw or minimally processed. The technology needed to increase food processing did not exist until
very recently. It is therefore reasonable to assume that our bodies are best adapted at utilizing and
dealing with the raw or minimally processed foods which sustained us, and our predecessors, for
millions of years: fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts and seeds. | Dried peaches are good for anemia,
fatigue and constipation. | |
Often, the more recent the food is, the more likely it is to be less beneficial or even directly harmful
possibly due to lack of full adaptation to such foods. For example, it is estimated that food cooking
started about 500 000 250 000 years ago (depending on the source, the range may vary). During this
time frame, it is likely that human species have at least adapted in some way to very simply cooked
animal and vegetable foods. On the other hand, the beginnings of grain consumption are much more
recent. Evidence of earliest known,

Essay on Understanding the Sociology of Health
Health can be defined in three different ways; negatively, positively and holistically as well as
contextually, that will differ from person to person. The English word for health is derived from the
old English word hale meaning Wholeness and wellness , in this essay I will be exploring the different
definitions, views and models of health. The World Health organization defines health as Health is a
state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity. Firstly the negative definition equates to the lack of any disease or body abnormalities, or an
pessimistic outlook due to illness, disease (both physical and mental) or injury. Examples of this

the aspects that the individual takes to achieve and maintain optimal physical health through the
combined efforts of beneficial activities (ie. exercise) and a positive view of diet and food as well as
healthy eating habits. This aspect empowers the individual to take responsibility to take care of their
own health such as caring for themselves through minor illnesses and knowing when to seek
professional medical attention. While the individual is empowered to take these steps they may have
little or no control of them if they suffer from an condition such as anorexia. Mental Mental health is
described by the World Health Organization as state of well being in which every individual realizes
his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully
and typically covers topics regarding the happiness derived from work , relationships, family and life
in general. Previously stigmatized in society , ferm links have been establish between mental health
effecting physical health, in which the holistic approach , similar to the social model, draws attention
to the root cause of the condition and its triggers. Social Social

Article Number 1 Title: There May Be a Little Poop in Your Starbucks Iced Coffee
Author: Clint Rainy
Date of Article: March 1, 2017
Summary of Topic:
What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human waste. In
other words, the intestines of warm blooded animals. Such bacteria often pollute water sources
however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were found in the ice of the Starbucks
food franchise. The issue with faecal coliforms is that their presence in water indicates the presence of
other more dangerous bacteria, it is this more dangerous bacteria that causes water borne diseases such
as cholera or typhoid which is deadly. (Washington State ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Rainy, 2017)
Article Analysis:
The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of
marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of faecal
bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is that it is
negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well being of its consumers. According to
the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, Consumers have the right to
fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the scandal in the article is
an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of poor quality and had the
potential to make customers very sick.
The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that
particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous
checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will
always be feeling on edge.
In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of
minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it was
exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence because the
buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

Opioid Persuasive Essay
It s impossible to fix a leaking faucet without fixing the pipes first. You can try to mop up the water,
but the problem won t go away until the leak is stopped at the source. Likewise, the current opioid
epidemic that is taking over lives will not come to an end unless the source unneeded opioid
prescriptions for teens is stopped. A plethora of teens receive prescriptions for trivial injuries, but
doctors over prescribing these medications can put teens on the road to a full blown addiction. The
current opioid epidemic is a problem that plagues the lives of thousands of people every day, and
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is taking steps to end the problem.

Opioid pills flood the body with chemicals to give the user pleasure and pain relief (Triffin). To many,
these drugs seem safer than other drugs. However, this is far from the truth. Right now, the opioid
epidemic is the fastest growing drug problem (Volk). Teens young age makes them especially
vulnerable to addiction. John F. Kelly, Ph.D, associate professor of psychiatry in addiction medicine at
Harvard Medical School explains, The brain is in a critical and vulnerable period of growth during
adolescence. Kelly added that early exposure to drug misuse increases your risk of addiction by 5 to
10 times, independent of other factors (Triffin). Simultaneously, studies show that when rewarded,
teens brains have a strong reaction. This, combined with the impulsive nature of the teen brain means
that teens are attracted to thrills. These weaknesses are manipulated by drugs, as observed in animal
research. Young rats tend to work harder than adult rats to get drugs, which implies that the teen brain
is more attracted to drugs. The thrill of taking a drug is pleasing to teens (Teen Brain Vulnerability
Exposed). In fact, When someone takes a painkiller,

The Issue Of Pay Equality
Lilly Ledbetter wasn t lazy; she and all women just want equal pay Rebuttal
The issue of pay equality between genders has always been an important topic. For some reason many
people believe that women are still unfairly paid less than men. The common statistic, now popular
belief, is that women get paid seventy seven cents for every dollar a man makes. Though this statistic
seems real it was no more than a false statistic used to help politicians get votes. The truth is, if the
math was done the correct way, then this statistic would be significantly smaller than we originally
thought.
When comparing job salaries between workers you would first need to compare the average income
between the two sexes. The statistic used (seventy seven cents) is a median value for women. The
reason why this information would be wrong is because this compares all ranges of salaries; the
amount of people involved, and finds the middle value in the list. This method is incorrect for two
reasons in particular. First of all, the salaries of all workers of that gender would be compared; this
means workers of different work fields would be compared to each other s. Second of all, if there were
numerically more of one gender than the other then the statistics for comparing them would be off.
Basically, because of these seemingly obvious reasons the standard deviations in pay differences
would be a much larger value than it should. This is exactly what happened in the statistic seventy

The Difference between Democratic Government and Oligarchy...
Democratic Government VS Oligarchy Government The government is merely a servant merely a
temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and
decide who is a patriot and who isn t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. Mark Twain
Democracy and Oligarcy as forms of government have been in existence for a long period of time,
both terms first appeared in ancient Greek political and philosophical thought. Both forms of
government exist in the modern world, but which form of government is more better, there is a
question. So, in my essay I will compare Democratic and Oligarchy Governments to understand which

In a democracy, if people are unhappy, they can raise their voices through various platforms such as
the media. However, in Oligarchy government, common people might not be granted fundamental
rights which are essential for any person to live a good life. If you compare Oligarchy vs Democracy
on how stable a government these can provide, then certainly dictatorship wins hands down.
Oligarchy government often resort to violent methods to curb any kind of public uprisings to protect
its power and ruling status in the country. Robert Michels believed that any political system eventually
evolves into an oligarchy. He called this the iron law of oligarchy. According to this school of thought,
modern democracies should be considered as oligarchies. Unfortunately, Oligarchy Governments
really hide under the name of democratic. As an example, a number of former Soviet states, including
Ukraine. Officially, we live in a democratic state, but we all know who is at the helm of state power.
Ukraine is called a democratic state, which governed by a few oligarchic clans. Every form of
government is bound to have some shortfalls. Different people have different views about the various
political systems. But in today s world, democracy is considered to be the best form of government,
reason being that people are treated equally and have full rights to live a life of their liking. Unlike a
Oligarchy government is not considered to be a

The History Of Israel Is Full Of Patriarchal Stories
Introduction The history of Israel is full of Patriarchal stories with a few less matriarchal stories. It
could be said that women did not hold as high of a place as men in the ANE time, but there is one
woman s story that holds a significant amount of weight to the construction of an astounding prophet
of Israel named Samuel, his mother s name was Hannah. Although Hannah did not have a voice in her
society or the polygamous familial situation she was in, God was able to subjectively liberate her
giving her a standing relationship with him, and with her newfound voice she co raised an incredible
son with God. I will review Hannah s position in her story through her polygamous relationship, a

The way that he loved her was that he wanted to be her everything rather than giving her a son. It is
very possible that Hannah was his trophy wife and he did not want to assume the responsibility of
having children with her. The fact that he already had other children with Peninah lets us know that he
already has that responsibility tolling on him and his money. Birth control was not uncommon in their
day and age too. Elkanah loved Hannah but not enough to give her what she wanted out of this
marriage, a child. The radical monotheist can read this text and note that it was God that had closed
her womb, but with studying more of Elkanah and the cultural practices of their day it is men who
keep women from having kids, not God. Hannah is stuck in this childless marriage and she is
unhappy. She craves to be a mother, something that is so naturally innate in women and she is sad.
Elkanah asks her the question, Am I not more than 10 sons to you ? And she does not even respond to
him. Her voice in this moment will not change the fact that she has no children. She is powerless and
childless which makes her feel less of a woman than Peninah. Hannah goes to the temple at Shiloh to
weep. Her burden is too much for her to bear so she seeks some comfort there. The text says, She
presented herself before the Lord (1 Samuel 1:9). She couldn t use her words to change her position
with her husband so she goes to

the creator and how no one even the creator accepts the monster because of the way he is and the way

Globalization refers to the shift toward a more integrated and interdependent world economy. [Hill,

the pre democratic period was a period of very little globalization, which can be contrasted with the

the effects that globalization has on a country.

The theory has implications for inequality within a country (Stopler Samuelson) and between
countries (Factor Price Equalization). The Stopler Samuelson theory, which builds on the Heckscher
Ohlin theory, predicts that with increased trade, the nation s abundant factor will gain and the scarce
factor will lose. In terms of income inequality within a country this means that by increasing trade the
lower income group, which control the abundant and cheap factor would realise an increase in income
and the higher income group controlling the scarce resources would see a fall in income. The assertion
by Stopler and Samuelson that increased trade would cause a decrease in inequality within a country is
not strongly supported by empirical evidence. A study by Dollar and Kraay [2001] shows that in the
period between 1960 and 1995, inequality has in fact slightly increased within countries that the
authors have termed globalizers .
The empirical evidence, however, does support the Factor Price Equalization theorem, which states
that the movement of factors between countries is replaced by trade in final goods, thus international
trade brings about an equalization of relative factor prices between countries. Dollar and Kraay [2001]

Analyzing The Current And Future Economic Status Of Ohio
Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio
Abdulaziz Musallam December 4, 2014
Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio
This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which we
will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in order
to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research
(NBER), recession is the period when business activities have reached its peak and a fall starts. This
continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a recession lasts
for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A great example is the
Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in order to differentiate
the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913 (Smiley, 2008). So we can
lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts longer and its business activity
decline is larger.
Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes in
GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression, the
GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an economic
decline that is less severe. A number of world leaders have warmed of the looming economic

The Effectiveness of Octavian in Enlisting Senatorial...
The Effectiveness of Octavian in Enlisting Senatorial Support for his New Administration in the
Period 30 to 19 BC.
Octavian was the son of Gaius Octavius, a senator, but was the adopted son of Julius Caesar.
Essentially Octavian, or Augustus as he became known as in 27BC, was a conservative republican.
This is shown by Res Gestae Divi Augusti (literally the achievements of the Divine August )
paragraph 8: I brought back into use many exemplary practises of our ancestors which were
disappearing in our time. And also by Suetonius The Twelve Caesars, Augustus, chapter 93: Augustus
showed great respect to all ancient and long established foreign rites. The Republican system was
based on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Octavian did not realise this at first and he illegally created himself consul: At the age of 19
he created himself consul, marched on Romeas if it were an enemy city ... to demand that the
appointment [of consul] should be confirmed. When the Senate hesitated to obey ... a centurion ...
displayed the hilt of his sword and boldly said If you do not make him consul, this will! (Suetonius
26). But how were these aims to fit into the fact that Octavian wanted to remain in power, and not be
too obvious about this fact?
Following the death of Julius Caesar, on the 27th of November in 43BC Titius, a tribune passed the
lex titia in the tribunal assembly. This was a law appointing Anthony, Lepidus and Octavian triumvirs
for 5 years, but this time could be lengthened. This was the technique of a populares, rather than being
passed by the Senate and being Optimates. The Triumvirs were clever in the fact that they did not
advertise the unconstitutional position of dictator. The leader of the three men to rule was Antony a
leading Caesarean and so therefore a populares. The constitutional position stood against the ideals of
the Roman Republic and therefore brought an end to the Roman Republic. This was unacceptable
from the point of view of a conservative republican senator. They immediately set to work getting

Comparison Of March Of The Penguins And Happy Feet
In the films March of the Penguins and Happy Feet we get the essentially the same story both times.
The movies try to depict the life of a penguin and the struggles that they deal with. In both cases the
audience is going to walk away thinking that they have received this. However, March of the Penguins
is a genuine display of a penguin s life while Happy Feet feeds us a happy cartoon. Another thing to
consider here is the audience that might be attending each film. In this case a child is going to be much
more pleased with Happy Feet for obvious reasons, while an adult might enjoy the experience of
knowing how a penguin actually lives in the wild. Any viewer can have a preference for this or that,
they either want the real thing or the fairytale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is an act that is taking place in front of the camera and just being captured. There are usually no
special effects and no one is manipulating the scene. During this film when the egg falls onto the ice it
is a very real thing happening. Inside the egg is a live penguin of some sort and it is actually dying on
film. While it is very sad, it is nature taking its course with no human intervention and regardless if it
was captured or not this egg would still have frozen while the parent looked on helplessly. These are
not people waddling around in costumes or a special effects egg that is made to represent the real
thing, it is real life. There is no recreating or acting out a moment like this which is why this is easily
viewed as a realist film. That is where mise en scene comes into play. Everything that you do see is
without a doubt real and not a constructed set. They didn t just kill penguins to throw on camera and
they didn t bring in stuffed ones either. They simply recorded what they saw and found. Everything
from the blistering cold winds to the layers upon layers of snow dropped upon the enormous flock of
birds is authentic. Even the lighting and sounds around them is what the crew is forced to work with,
no one on this earth can change a blizzard just because they want to get a better shot for a movie. It s
something that would be very difficult to recreate and equally difficult to capture. The only effect that
humans add is the Voice of god that Morgan Freeman is giving to us. This man is never seen on screen
and is never mentioned throughout but he knows exactly what is going on and also he is very
knowledgeable about the unfolding events. This voice seemingly comes out of nowhere and that is
why it is referred to as such. While in actuality this man probably never set foot in Antarctica and
mostly likely recorded all of this in an air conditioned studio somewhere. So

Conversion Therapy Argumentative Essay
An individual s sexuality should not define who they are as a person. What is Conversion Therapy?
Sexual Orientation Conversion Therapy has a range of treatments that are designed in hopes to turn a
person s sexual orientation to heterosexual. Conversion therapy is also used in attempts to convert a
transgender person s gender expression to match with the gender given at birth. It is currently banned
for minors in 5 states (California, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, and Illinois) and the other 45 states
have no law against it. Many teens in this current time period are coming out as either lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, and/or queer. Homosexuality is often seen as a negative effect towards society.
Some people may think that conversion therapies are wrong and that they should be banned
throughout the country, some people understand why conversion therapy is helpful. In the recent 2016

However, the most disputed one is aversion therapy as it is more likely for it to turn dangerous. In the
1970s, many conversion therapy programs used the electroshock technique or vomit inducing
chemical compounds when a person showed an attraction to a same sex individual. However the
techniques have changed overtime; for example: a milder aversive technique is encouraging someone
to snap a rubber band on his or her wrist when they are allowing themselves to be attracted to a same
sex individual. Many aversive techniques, ones that are particularly physically abusive actions, are
strongly disliked in the United States. Today, conversion therapies are influenced by conventional
psychotherapeutic practices to help people change their minds. People have argued that a traumatic
experience, including sexual abuse, can change an individual s sexual orientation. Therefore, people
believe a person s sexuality can be

New Transit System for Sunshine Coast
As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population of the Sunshine Coast, and therefore rising
transport demand, various suggestions have been made in regards to the establishment of a new transit
system. Currently, the most favoured option in regards to alternative transport on the Sunshine Coast
is that of a light rail line which would link all major destinations and attractions within the region as
well as connect with bus and train services in hinterland communities (Deutscher, 2013). In addition,
present studies conducted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (2013) detail that the light rail
would extend from Caloundra to Maroochydore, via the University of the Sunshine Coast. However,
the development of the light rail line along this route would involve crossing Currimundi Creek, a
critical environmental and tourism feature of the Sunshine Coast. The distinctive and biodiverse
environments of this area are crucial for the sustainment of certain conditions that various species rely
on for survival (Williams, 2010). Moreover, the Currimundi Catchment is also the habitat of multiple
species with Conservation Status as detailed in the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Department of the Environment,
2013). Based on the field work studies completed by local students, as well as the data of secondary
sources such as the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management (GCCM), it can be determined that the

A Critical Analysis of My Kiowa Grandmother, and
Take My Saddle from the Wall: A Valediction
The essays, My Kiowa Grandmother, by N. Scott Momaday and Take My Saddle from the Wall: A
Valediction, by Larry McMurtry, both seek to understand the values and traditions of an old way of
life that has been lost to the trials and tribulations of time. By reaching back into history through their
families, both authors achieve the same effect, while using starkly contrasting narrative structure; they
show the characteristics that have been lost to younger generations.

McMurtry creates a story about his family, based on their accounts left to him in memoirs and letters
throughout the years. McMurtry s ultimate purpose is to narrate an expressive literary essay that uses
humor and drama to attract the attention of the reader. While discussing cowboys and their
straightforward wisdom, he concludes that cowboys observations turn into aphorisms. One such
aphorism he finds particularly appealing is as follows: A woman s love is like the morning dew, it s
just as likely to fall on a horseturd as on a rose (149). McMurtry also includes a great deal of drama
and suspense as well. At one point, he recalls his grandfather s troublesome drinking; one day his
grandmother issued an ultimatum, sober up or she would leave him. The threat was undoubtedly made
in earnest, and he took it so immediately to heart that he stopped drinking then and there, with a jug
half full of whiskey hanging in the saddle room of the barn (143).
Additionally, a substantial difference between the two essays is the author s view of their ancestors.
McMurtry admits that he never considered genealogy much of an aid to recognition, and thus never
pursued [his] lineage any distance at all (143). On the other hand, Momaday is very curious of his
lineage. So curious in fact that he actually sets out on a fifteen hundred [mile]... pilgrimage (289) to

Analysis Of The Movie Dope
I recently watched the Netflix movie, Dope, a coming of age movie that doubles as a parody and a
dedication to the 1990s vintage ghetto generation. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy are nerdy
high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their punk band, and
have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was trying to escape a
gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer named Dom. Dom ended up
invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and his friends decide to go. After an
eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom had stashed a handgun and a large
amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police who raided the party. The rest of the movie
plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the
drugs and promises Dom s prominent supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college
interviewer, the profits made from the drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he
helps Malcolm achieve his goal of getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with
the police while still getting into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of
black masculinity, Malcolm counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypes that some have in their head
about young African American men. In the movie Dope, numerous aspects of intersectionality are

Comparisons Between Hurricane Sandy And Hurricane Katrina
Comparisons between Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Katrina Hurricanes are formed over tropical
waters. These intense storms consist of winds over 74 miles per hour (Ahrens Sampson, 2011). The
storms addressed here are Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. This paper will explore the
contrasts and comparisons between these two horrific storms.
Year of Occurrence
Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina occurred in the year 2005; it made landfall on the morning of
August 29th. However, the origins of this storm began as early as August 24, 2005. In the course of
those six days, Hurricane Katrina varied in location and intensity before making final landfall on the
southeast portion of the United States (Ahrens Sampson, 2011).
Hurricane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This decrease in intensity as Hurricane Katrina approached the southern United States was a result of
the replacement of the storm s eyewall. As the storm moved from the warm waters of the Loop current
in the direction of the shore, rainstorms within Katrina robbed the eye of the storm of moisture. This
process caused the replacement of the eye, and the reduction to the category three storm that made
landfall in the vicinity of Buras, Louisiana on the morning of August 29, 2005. At this point,
Hurricane Katrina s storm surge was greater than 20 feet high. Though Buras, Louisiana was the
location of landfall, Hurricane Katrina s reach was much more vast: rampaging winds and the
destruction of levees only added to the ruin this storm caused (Ahrens Sampson, 2011).
Hurricane Sandy Hurricane Sandy made a devastating landfall along the coast of New Jersey
(McCallum, Wicklein, Reiser, Busciolano, Morrison, Verdi, Painter Frantz, 2012). However, the origin
of the hurricane was quite removed from that location. The core instigation of Hurricane Sandy
originated off of the west coast of Africa in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. It started off rather weak,
a category one on the Saffir Simpson s scale. The storm became a stronger category three as it moved
towards the island of Cuba, and then weakened to a category one again as it traveled north through the
Bahamas. On the journey from the Bahamas to the

Lab Report 2 A. Coughran 4/19/17
Objective:
The objective in Lab 2 is to experiment with the relationship between current, force, and length of a
conductor wire that has a current. This will be tested with magnets to create a magnetic field.
Theory:
Equation 1 below shows the relationship of force (F), current (i), length (L), magnetic field (B), and
angle (Ɵ) for a current carrying wire. In this experiment, the angle between the wire and the magnets
is 90⁰. This means that sinƟ=1 and can be eliminated.

Procedure:
In this experiment, three different current loops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scale was zeroed before any data collection. Next, the current was raised slowly to 2A in 0.25A
0.5A increments, depending on the current loop. The direction of the current was reversed and tested
in the same manner, which was represented as negative current values in Excel. For each increment,
the mass value on the scale was recorded to determine the relationship between current and mass in a
magnetic field. Tables of this data are shown below for each different current loop.
Data:
Analysis:
1. For each current loop, the plot of force vs. mass is listed below each corresponding data table. The
slope for the experimental magnetic field (B) is shown in each of these plots.
2. The standard deviations of the magnetic field (B) values for each current loop are shown above in
the data section at the bottom of each table. These values were relatively small with values ranging
between 1 and 5. The magnetic field data was very consistent for each increment of mass and current
and showed little error.
4. The Right Hand Rule is followed by the above data in that the magnetic field can be calculated as a
linear function of force and current (a sketch of this is shown below). When the direction of the
current (i) was changed, the force (F) values remained consistent and linear, but in the opposite
direction. This is evident from the data of

The School of Athens
Raphael s School of Athens fresco is one of the four frescoes in the Stanza della Segnatura , in the
Vatican. The walls are covered with four different scenes, each depicting a different theme. The
School of Athens represents Philosophy. The techniques and figures used in the fresco not only pay
homage to Raphael s influences, but are also a presentation of the skills acquired from each. Almost as
though he was submitting it for approval. As Raphael traveled throughout Italy, he formed
relationships with, and learned a great deal from the masters of the age. In the School of Athens,
Raphael depicts his teachers and influences in disguise and presents the skills learned from each. It is

The figures in the School of Athens are noticeably turning, twisting, bending, and moving. This feat
would not have been possible without the influence of Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel ceiling. This
change is Raphael s style began after the preliminary unveiling of the ceiling. Raphael s figures began
to be more voluminous and hulking, similar to the Sybils on the Ceiling. An online art archive
explained, Following the preliminary unveiling of the Sistine ceiling in 1509, the figures in Raphael s
pictures acquire more voluminous bodies and more powerful arms, and there is a reduction in their
numbers. The bold twisting position adopted by the young woman in the Expulsion of Heliodorus a
pose which reappears in reverse in Raphael s late work, the Transfiguration would be inconceivable
without the influence of Michelangelo. All doubt can be removed when comparing Raphael s figures
to those of Michelangelo s Sybils on the Sistine Ceiling. Any question as to the cause of the widely
acknowledged sudden change in Raphael s style after 1509 is removed for good, however, when we
compare the Sibyls and Prophets executed by Raphael in the Capella Chigi in S. Maria della Pace
(1512) with those by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. In addition to the thematic kinship of these
frescos with Michelangelo, Raphael s new approach to body volumes and twisting poses makes
patently clear the

Teenage Pregnancy During Adolescent Years
Pregnancy During Adolescent Years
Going through school can be a difficult time for children, especially during their adolescent years. The
most difficult part of high school is dealing with peer pressure and the constant pressure of having sex.
As children go through life and generations go in and out of the school system it is becoming more
common for teens to partake in sexual activities. It is said that 47% of all high school students are
sexually active and have been with more than one sexual partner. Unfortunately, this activity is
something that does not discriminate. In fact, it can be seen in all genders, races, and communities.
Being subjected to the pressures of sex is something that all teens should be prepared for. Talking with
your parents and being aware of the consequences could alter the adolescents desire to participate in
such activities (Sex Speaking to Children and Teenagers About Sex, n.d.). There are many different
reasons why adolescents want to partake in these activities including the thought of fitting in.
Thinking about making such a decision is beyond fitting in, in fact there are many consequences that
come along with sexual activities (Sex Speaking to Children and Teenagers About Sex, n.d.). Before a
child decides to partake in these activities, they need to understand what can happen and who all it
affects.
Teen pregnancy is one of the one the top reasons for girl dropouts (Van Pelt, 2014). Statistics show
that approximately 50% of teen

Presidential Election Of The United States
After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new
president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between
Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent
American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted
Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016
presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this
poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what
was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps
victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it
within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was
retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the
decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own
situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than
they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that
voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party ,

The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues
Define the Problem
As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents basic needs: the cost of housing.
According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in California are in the
bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it was
estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the increased
population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs. From January 2014 to
January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city struggling
to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015).
The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam webster
dictionary defines gentrification as the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of
middle class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents (2015).
San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased approximately
16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices also soar to record highs in San Francisco residents
have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along with the influx of new affluent
residents come shops, stores and restaurants. A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle s food
blog Inside Scoop named four new restaurants opening in Oakland s Temescal district, a neighbor
hood that has rapidly changed over

Jean Rhys s Wide Sargasso Sea Essay
In Jean Rhys s novel Wide Sargasso Sea, Edward Rochester can be considered as an embodiment of
patriarchal and colonial oppression. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, patriarchal means,
relating to, characteristic of, or designating a society or culture in which men tend to be in positions of
authority and cultural values and norms are seen as favouring men... ( Patriarchal ) moreover colonial
means of, belonging to, or relating to a colony... ( Colonial ). In addition, oppression means prolonged
cruel or unjust treatment or exercise of authority, control, or power; tyranny; exploitation ( Oppression
). In order to discuss Edward s role in patriarchal and colonial forms of oppression, his marriage, and
emotional connection to Antoinette, symbolic representation, and cultural differences will be analysed
and discussed, focusing on any evidence of both forms of oppression.
Through Edward s marriage to Antoinette, one can see his colonial British background and how this
influences his role as an embodiment of patriarchal oppression. For instance, Edward is looking to
take the stature of a matured and wealthy, independent male by British standards (Kendrik 235). In
order to achieve this Edward needs to present as a dominant and independent husband in possession of
a submissive and dependant wife. This leads Edward into never completely accepting Antoinette as an
equal as he views her as a prized possession obtained through marriage; her beauty and wealth

Access control system is a system designed to control entry to prevent intruders into selected areas
and manage movement of people/vehicles within. Its purpose is to increase security by determining
who, when and where are they allowed to enter or exit.
When a credential is put forward to a reader, the reader sends the credential s information to a control
panel. The control panel compares the credential s information to an access control list which then
accepts or denies the presented request, and sends a transaction log to a database. If there is a match

Analysis Of The Book Leading From The Second Chair
The book Leading From the Second Chair discusses what it is like to lead from the second chair. This
was a semi new concept for me. I have always heard of leadership and know that it is something
special, however, I never thought of leading from the second chair. This phrase means being a leader
but not the person in charge. This is something that is foreign to me. I have always though that a
leader is in charge of their section and other leaders are in charge of their section and eventually they
come together to put it all together. However, though going through the experience of my internship

pastor. A Sr. pastor is over the whole church and untimely is where most people look when they see
problems going on in the church. The Sr. pastor tends to be the face of the church, just as the president
is the face for the United States. To be a second chair leader to the pastor you are either an associate
minister, or a small specific type of minister, for example youth, children s, young adults, and so on
and so forth. So if you are an associate minister, at least in the United Methodist Church, you may
want your Sr. pastors job but you do not really have any say who will get it or not, so most of the time
you just do not fight with them. If you are a small specific type of minister you more than likely do
not want the Sr. pastor s job because that is not where your calling is or you would not be doing this
job. While that is the basis of the structure it is also important to remember that while the Sr. pastor is
over those in the second chair more likely than not the Sr. pastor wants your input on things and wants
you to succeed. If your Sr. pastor does not want you to succeed then you need to find a different job.
With that in mind the first chair is not some one that you should fight with over things but someone
you should listen to and bounce ideas off of. I currently use this information while at my internship.

My Passion For Literature
It was an honest question, one not verbose to the point of obscurity, What language do they speak in
England? there was a beat, and I, with my ten year old witticism responded to my 17 year old half
sister s question with a candid retort, English, duh! . This amused my parents who continued packing
their suitcases and travel books, her question stemmed from our much anticipated departure to Great
Britain the next day and it had left us all buzzing with excitement. Well when did you become such a
know it all? she veered, it was a half hearted jest, more so antagonistic than spiteful as all sibling
banter was. For me, variations of that question follow my retorts even now. I am the product of two
English teachers as parents, my name, Elizabeth, stems from their equal obsession for the works
written in the Elizabethan Era namely William Shakespeare and John Lyly. I am the product of my
own genetics, my love for literature and passion for writing only fuels my ambitious nature and the
pursuit to understand everything that this world offers.
As a child my father read to my younger brother and I every night, we would jump onto the couch and
he would walk in behind us with a book in hand, he read all sorts of books from Watership Down to
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and while my brother would fall asleep after the first few pages I
would be there chapter after chapter anticipating what would happen next. While this was a way to lull
us to sleep that isn t the effect books

Calla Character Analysis
Calla is an only child, born of two muggles. Her mother and father do not know which side of the
family her powers came from. The first time she showed a sign of magical abilities was on her fifth
birthday. She had managed to make building blocks float above her head in circles. Her parents, were
quite scared, confused by her newfound skill. They taught Calla to hide her power. She was bullied
because of accidents happening at school. Paint cans falling from roofs, Emily Raine s hair turning
pink, and many more incidents occurring causing her to be teased and made fun of. Finally, her family
got a letter. Much to their confusion, delivered by owl. Upon opening they saw it was an invitation to
a school, an explanation to her mysterious ability. Accepting the invitation, Calla learned much about
this world in which she would now live in.

She loves to crack witty one liners but often stutters and in turn gets odd looks from others. She is an
average student and tends to bury herself in literature rather than her real life. Calla tends to be a
recluse when it comes to parties and socializing, as it causes her to blush, stutter, and embarrass
herself at every moment possible. Secretly, she wishes to be liked by most everyone, and praised for
self deprecating jokes. She often times thinks of some quite rude comebacks, but chooses not to share
them. She doesn t want to come off as a bad person. Calla feels as if she is one of the only fifteen year
old girls who isn t fawning over guys, but tends to notice the female population of Hogwarts a bit
more. She has quite a lot of weaknesses like; anxiety, angry outbursts, easily distracted, and she is
pretty horrible at potions. Just awful at

Plato Capital Punishment
Early eightieth century BC records of legalised death penalty laws have been uncovered in the Code
of King Hammaurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty for 25 different crimes. Famous
philosophers Plato and Bentham have given their ethical viewpoints; from there assumptions can be
drawn on their views on capital punishment. The Catholic Church also has its Anti death penalty
position. Capital punishment has been a part of human communal society for centuries. Within these
three ethical viewpoints society can use them as scopes as to whether it should be acceptable in their
community. Contextual analysis is paramount to being able to apply these ethical thought methods to a
contemporary issue. Many that live deserve death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their differences strike in their thought process and in what the rehabilitation would entail. In terms of
context Bentham is straight up against capital punishment that causes suffering and strongly opposes
it. He also spent more time on it then any of his rival or competing philosophers of his time. He
comments in his commentary According to Bentham, a punishment, like any other legal practice, must
be morally justified in terms of its conduciveness to the appropriate end. Bentham wanted laws that
augmented total happiness of the community as his theory on punishment is that they need to justified
and rationale and that in it will generate happiness. Plato however had a structure in place, firstly an
orator (similar to a lawyer) would request that person stand trial in front of a court, rather than that
person going to be put to death they instead would be given a timoria or a trial of retribution similar to
getting rehabilitated or being put on parole. While some major offences of his time were still worth
capital punishment Plato stressed that if it is possible and there is a chance for rehabilitation then that
person deserves it. Comparing both philosophers both can be classed as anti capital punishment as
while Plato does condone the use of capital punishment it is only for serious crimes, Laws prescribes

The impacts of nutrition information on advertisement of fast food chains
The fast food industry in the U.S. has rapidly expanded in the past few decades (Hwang, 2013). In
2014, the industry has created a 3% current value growth, indicating its robust and continued ability in
the U.S. market overall (Euromonitor, 2015). This strong increase has largely changed Americans
lifestyle and eating habits; the amount of money they spend on fast food is more than that on
education, readings and videos (Schlosser, 1998). Moreover, the fast food chains spent almost $500
million on cross promotion events with additional $300 million spent on premiums distribution in
2009 (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015). Indeed, by spending around $10
billion on food related ads every year, the food industry becomes the second largest advertiser in
America (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015). According to a report from
Fast Food Facts, the whole fast food industry spent $4.6 billion on all kinds of advertising in 2012,
among which advertising spending of McDonald s was the most. Looking into the way how fast food
chain advertisements are considered to be capable in influencing people s eating habits and food
preferences (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015), it has been attributed to
the obesity of Americans (Mink, 2006). The total sales of fast food in America was 4% in 1953 while
the number of 1997 sharply increased

Comparison Of My One Wild And Precious Life By Mary Oliver
My one wild and precious life , as I slowly let out a small puff of air, this statement slowly crept into
my head. Who really defines the preciousness of life, does it rely on the good deeds I have done? Does
it have to do with how much people value me in their life? Am I precious in the same way the ring is
precious to Sméagol (Gollum)? As far as I can perceive, a life is precious just because it exists,
because it wanders around in this weary planet looking for that one element that defines them. Most of
the humankind appears to be on a wild goose chase, searching for their own unique purpose in life
because in reality life is a bleak, meaningless barren land. As for me, I am quite uncertain as to what I
plan to do with life. Since I get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, do I still have a plan after having to fight through the forest of infinite possibilities? The answer
would be, I don t think I m ever getting out of the forest and If I do, it s a dreaming. Mary Oliver
raises one of the most complex questions of life in the simplest manner. Even though, I could ve
answered in a literal sense, such as, I want to be a well know, respected attorney, with a loving and
beautiful wife who s going to birth my adorable two kids, Luke and Leia, and we are going to live in
the suburbs outside New York city till the kids go off to college. My wife and I will start a real estate
business called Hogwarts realtor enterprises, be successful and later inn life take out the grandkids for
fishing out in the cabin and live a quiet and peaceful life. Well, as pleasant and pleasing as that story
sounds, I rather get lost in the uncertainties of life and dread about the unattainable plans I have for
life, because, ironically, that was my plan, to write a gloomy, insecure answer to a rather pleasant,
thoughtful

Catullus Poetry Analysis
A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet may
incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double
meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may
unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating
a word picture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By
implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This
theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen
85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem,
obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s
emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful
poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover,
Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of old men, because while the sun is able to
return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses
in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked
ones. The strategic placement of the words let us live and let us love literally place Lesbia as the
central focus of the work. In the original Latin text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia,
atque amemus, which the words vivamus and amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the
center of the poet s life and love (Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much
more than an erotic, love poem topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the
best words in the best possible order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given
significant importance.
Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose
comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). The actual

The Ghost Army
World War II General George S. Patton reflected, These men suffered enough for a hundred lifetimes,
and no one in this country should be allowed to forget it. The men he is referring to were part of a
tactical unit called the Ghost Army. They all could have died if even one thing went wrong. The Ghost
Army was part of the 23rd Headquarters Special troops. This organization was top secret until 1996.
These men and missions are still spoken of and remembered to this very day ( 23rd Headquarters
Special troops ). The Ghost Army spent a long time making a plan that would lead the Allied troops to
victory. They mapped out everything and made sure everything was perfect. They all had their special
strategic skills. These men and the unit have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Operation Fortitude is a go, Commander Patton said. Many people wonder what type of tactical tricks
did the unit use and how they knew about it. Actually, the U.S. army got these ideas of the plan of
deception from The first President of the United States: George Washington. Washington practiced
deception as an art rather than a science. Now the Ghost army was using this Art to fool the Germans (
Ghost Soldier magazine ). The art of tactical deception was their best skill. They wanted to mislead
the enemy forces that were going to fall for the tanks and the fake attacks that they were presenting.
The commander of the unit had to assign the recruits positions so that each designer and artist would
know what to operate: the speakers manipulating gunshot sounds and explosions or the inflatable tank
balloons meant to deceive the enemy into thinking a real unit was closeby. The commander created a
group called the Effect group, and they would be operating the important equipment in the operation (
Ghost Army Tricked Hitler ). What exactly, though, did the Ghost Army do on the battlefield? One
soldier, Jack Massey, commented, We were told we were going to be using inflatable equipment to try
and fool the Germans into thinking that we were a real army, when we were in effect, I suppose, a
rubber army (www.npr.org). They are all set and ready to go into action, they start their journey
through the woods and into a field. Now the army is now setting up their fake tanks off of a ranch in
Germany and waiting for the action to begin. The unit finally finished with their plan and successfully
tricked the Germans with their fake

The Conflict Diamonds Of Sierra Leone
The conflict diamonds started to be present and problematic in Sierra Leone as soon as DeBeers
mining company took control of all diamond prospects throughout this region. Although DeBeers was
keeping a moderate watch on the trading and actions being taken through it, traders from Lebanon
(bordered by Syria and Israel to the south) were able to easily smuggle and mine diamonds out
through the company. Later towards the 1950s, countries, such as Sierra Leone, had to give up the
chance of regulating the illicit diamond industry, thus having to warn owners of the mines to provide
their own security measures for the mines and land they owned. The issue wasn t justly political or
economic until Sierra Leone gained its independence in 1961, letting Siaka Stevens enroll as Prime
minister, therefore having a one party ruler. Stevens took control, and monopolized the diamond
mines, as well as encouraging them to gain power and fame nationwide. Things were looking austere
for diamond control rights and regulations, not only to watch a civil war emerge, surging through the
country as fire fought fire and brother fought against brother. As the war extended from 1991 to 1999,
it brought forth other problems as a result of citizen on citizen warfare for the diamonds such as rape,
murder, and sex slaves. Once 75,000 lives were claimed, the people of Sierra Leone finally realized
that victims and executors of these terrible crimes has emerged from the cash crop known as
diamonds.

  • 2. Effects Of Invasive Plants The devastating effects of rangeland invasive plants have influencedeffect many natural resources, as well as humans lives, without them knowing about it. The impacts of the invasion vary from place to place. Invasive plant species have numerous effects on the ecosystem goods and services provided by rangelands ( Basics of Invasive Species ). The resources that are gathered from rangelands are affectedeffected by the invasive plant species, all of those effects become one great issue that humans need to try and solve. Livestock is one of the major factors that are impacted by the introduction of invasive plants. These unwanted plants impact grazing lands by lowering yield and quality of forage for livestock, impeding access to desirable forage, poisoning animals, increasing costs of managing and producing livestock, and reducing grazing land value (Techline News). All of these impacts are the part of a larger ecological impact that can kill livestock, and other plants and animals living in that area. All of these ecological issues create a big enough picture to see what is really going on when one plant invades, the invasions hurt the environment and ecosystem. Several financial impacts of these invasive rangeland plants, appear in the livestock market as well as many other agricultural related markets; these losses affecteffect all consumers that would purchase or use agricultural related products. The beliefs of many people are that rangeland plant invasions will not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Economic Inequality In America Economic inequality reigns as a massive divide in the United States of America. Many active policies cause people to occupy an economic level which is meant to benefit those above them. With that said, there have been many efforts taken in hopes of reducing the current levels of economic inequality, but with these efforts, money and wealth will have to be taken from the rich to give to the poorer. This is where the problem lies with wealth inequality many have to sacrifice for those whom they presume to be unworthy of benefiting from their fortunes. Education, wealth, race, and power all play a role as to why action will not be taken to reduce the current levels of inequality in America. The rich see their money and how it will benefit them. In What the Rich Won t Tell You, Rachel Sherman addresses the mentality of the rich. Some rich people feel the need to conceal their wealth when it benefits them, and on the other hand, they will flaunt their wealth when it benefits them. For instance, Sherman interviewed a financially well off, middle aged woman named Beatrice. Beatrice stated that she was uncomfortable with the inequality between herself and her nanny, a Latina immigrant. (Sherman) Although her wealth made her uncomfortable, and she would remove price tags from her clothing and food, Beatrice was unwilling to suppress her lifestyle to lift the Latina nanny s financial situation any higher. The wealthy simply described themselves as normal people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hip Of Hip Hop Music Hip Hops Redemption Hip hop music is described as, a subculture especially of inner city youths who are typically devotees of rap music . (Merriam.com) Hip hop music is one of the most listened to genres in history. Hip hop music started in the mid 1970 s, but some say that it started much earlier. Many people today would argue that Hip Hop is disgraceful now a days, and that it has no positive message given. Me personally, I would agree since the days have changed over time. I could also argue that music as a whole has changed and wouldn t always be the same, but that s not the main point. The main point is to show how Hip hop music is actually positive. For starters, music has always been very special to people. Music can affect people, even more than people affect people. Think about it, even in the bible days, Lucifer was the ruler over music. God s most beautiful angel controlled music and the music set the tone in heaven. Yes, music has a very strong impact on humans, animals, and deities out there. Hip Hop is an awesome form of music. Hip Hop started off from poetry. Yes Langston Hughes would be known as a lyricist in today s era. It was meant to express the troubles and sadness throughout the lives of blacks. Hip Hop has gone through it s changed throughout time. As technology advanced Hip hop has also advanced too an extent . • 6. Role Of Community In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society Of The... Community A community is a group of people interacting in a meaningful way with regard to something they share in common. It used to be that a community, in order to function as a group and interact, had to be in the same geographic location or at least within driving distance. Since the internet has now become so widely available we find that people with common interests and goals are reaching across vast distances to interact with each other. There is even language translation software available that can translate other languages into one s own. These have begun to break down previous barriers such as distance and language but even cultural barriers may become a thing of the past. In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society of the Starving, the author describes a community that meets online to share feelings about their eating disorders. In Shari Caudron s Befriending Barbie, the author writes of her experience at a Barbie convention. In the context of present time, one can therefore make two general assumptions in regard to the question of what constitutes a healthy diet: 1) generally, the less a food is processed the better. 2) Eat less eat what is adequate, do not over eat. Generally, the less a food is processed the better He reason for this is simple. For 99.9% of human existence, our species lived on foods that were either raw or minimally processed. The technology needed to increase food processing did not exist until very recently. It is therefore reasonable to assume that our bodies are best adapted at utilizing and dealing with the raw or minimally processed foods which sustained us, and our predecessors, for millions of years: fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts and seeds. | Dried peaches are good for anemia, fatigue and constipation. | | Often, the more recent the food is, the more likely it is to be less beneficial or even directly harmful possibly due to lack of full adaptation to such foods. For example, it is estimated that food cooking started about 500 000 250 000 years ago (depending on the source, the range may vary). During this time frame, it is likely that human species have at least adapted in some way to very simply cooked animal and vegetable foods. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well being of its consumers. According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, Consumers have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick. The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. A plethora of teens receive prescriptions for trivial injuries, but doctors over prescribing these medications can put teens on the road to a full blown addiction. The current opioid epidemic is a problem that plagues the lives of thousands of people every day, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is taking steps to end the problem. Kelly added that early exposure to drug misuse increases your risk of addiction by 5 to 10 times, independent of other factors (Triffin). Simultaneously, studies show that when rewarded, teens brains have a strong reaction. This, combined with the impulsive nature of the teen brain means that teens are attracted to thrills. These weaknesses are manipulated by drugs, as observed in animal research. Young rats tend to work harder than adult rats to get drugs, which implies that the teen brain is more attracted to drugs. • 12. The Issue Of Pay Equality Lilly Ledbetter wasn t lazy; she and all women just want equal pay Rebuttal The issue of pay equality between genders has always been an important topic. For some reason many people believe that women are still unfairly paid less than men. The common statistic, now popular belief, is that women get paid seventy seven cents for every dollar a man makes. Though this statistic seems real it was no more than a false statistic used to help politicians get votes. The truth is, if the math was done the correct way, then this statistic would be significantly smaller than we originally thought. When comparing job salaries between workers you would first need to compare the average income between the two sexes. The statistic used (seventy seven cents) is a median value for women. The reason why this information would be wrong is because this compares all ranges of salaries; the amount of people involved, and finds the middle value in the list. This method is incorrect for two reasons in particular. First of all, the salaries of all workers of that gender would be compared; this means workers of different work fields would be compared to each other s. Second of all, if there were numerically more of one gender than the other then the statistics for comparing them would be off. Basically, because of these seemingly obvious reasons the standard deviations in pay differences would be a much larger value than it should. This is exactly what happened in the statistic seventy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Democratic Government VS Oligarchy Government The government is merely a servant merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. Mark Twain Democracy and Oligarcy as forms of government have been in existence for a long period of time, both terms first appeared in ancient Greek political and philosophical thought. Both forms of government exist in the modern world, but which form of government is more better, there is a question. So, in my essay I will compare Democratic and Oligarchy Governments to understand which form of them is the best. It is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a democracy, if people are unhappy, they can raise their voices through various platforms such as the media. However, in Oligarchy government, common people might not be granted fundamental rights which are essential for any person to live a good life. If you compare Oligarchy vs Democracy on how stable a government these can provide, then certainly dictatorship wins hands down. Oligarchy government often resort to violent methods to curb any kind of public uprisings to protect its power and ruling status in the country. Robert Michels believed that any political system eventually evolves into an oligarchy. He called this the iron law of oligarchy. According to this school of thought, modern democracies should be considered as oligarchies. Unfortunately, Oligarchy Governments really hide under the name of democratic. As an example, a number of former Soviet states, including Ukraine. Officially, we live in a democratic state, but we all know who is at the helm of state power. It could be said that women did not hold as high of a place as men in the ANE time, but there is one woman s story that holds a significant amount of weight to the construction of an astounding prophet of Israel named Samuel, his mother s name was Hannah. Although Hannah did not have a voice in her society or the polygamous familial situation she was in, God was able to subjectively liberate her giving her a standing relationship with him, and with her newfound voice she co raised an incredible son with God. I will review Hannah s position in her story through her polygamous relationship, a wife who was loved but barren, and how she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way that he loved her was that he wanted to be her everything rather than giving her a son. It is very possible that Hannah was his trophy wife and he did not want to assume the responsibility of having children with her. The fact that he already had other children with Peninah lets us know that he already has that responsibility tolling on him and his money. Birth control was not uncommon in their day and age too. Elkanah loved Hannah but not enough to give her what she wanted out of this marriage, a child. The radical monotheist can read this text and note that it was God that had closed her womb, but with studying more of Elkanah and the cultural practices of their day it is men who keep women from having kids, not God. Hannah is stuck in this childless marriage and she is unhappy. She craves to be a mother, something that is so naturally innate in women and she is sad. Elkanah asks her the question, Am I not more than 10 sons to you ? And she does not even respond to him. Her voice in this moment will not change the fact that she has no children. She is powerless and childless which makes her feel less of a woman than Peninah. Hannah goes to the temple at Shiloh to weep. Her burden is too much for her to bear so she seeks some comfort there. The text says, She presented herself before the Lord (1 Samuel 1:9). She couldn t use her words to change her position with her husband so she goes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This sharp contrast emphasises the effects that globalization has on a country. The theory has implications for inequality within a country (Stopler Samuelson) and between countries (Factor Price Equalization). The Stopler Samuelson theory, which builds on the Heckscher Ohlin theory, predicts that with increased trade, the nation s abundant factor will gain and the scarce factor will lose. In terms of income inequality within a country this means that by increasing trade the lower income group, which control the abundant and cheap factor would realise an increase in income and the higher income group controlling the scarce resources would see a fall in income. The assertion by Stopler and Samuelson that increased trade would cause a decrease in inequality within a country is not strongly supported by empirical evidence. A study by Dollar and Kraay [2001] shows that in the period between 1960 and 1995, inequality has in fact slightly increased within countries that the authors have termed globalizers . The empirical evidence, however, does support the Factor Price Equalization theorem, which states that the movement of factors between countries is replaced by trade in final goods, thus international trade brings about an equalization of relative factor prices between countries. Analyzing The Current And Future Economic Status Of Ohio Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio Abdulaziz Musallam December 4, 2014 Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which we will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in order to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), recession is the period when business activities have reached its peak and a fall starts. This continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a recession lasts for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A great example is the Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in order to differentiate the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913 (Smiley, 2008). So we can lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts longer and its business activity decline is larger. Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes in GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression, the GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an economic decline that is less severe. Octavian was the son of Gaius Octavius, a senator, but was the adopted son of Julius Caesar. Essentially Octavian, or Augustus as he became known as in 27BC, was a conservative republican. This is shown by Res Gestae Divi Augusti (literally the achievements of the Divine August ) paragraph 8: I brought back into use many exemplary practises of our ancestors which were disappearing in our time. But how were these aims to fit into the fact that Octavian wanted to remain in power, and not be too obvious about this fact? Following the death of Julius Caesar, on the 27th of November in 43BC Titius, a tribune passed the lex titia in the tribunal assembly. This was a law appointing Anthony, Lepidus and Octavian triumvirs for 5 years, but this time could be lengthened. This was the technique of a populares, rather than being passed by the Senate and being Optimates. In order to discuss Edward s role in patriarchal and colonial forms of oppression, his marriage, and emotional connection to Antoinette, symbolic representation, and cultural differences will be analysed and discussed, focusing on any evidence of both forms of oppression. Through Edward s marriage to Antoinette, one can see his colonial British background and how this influences his role as an embodiment of patriarchal oppression. For instance, Edward is looking to take the stature of a matured and wealthy, independent male by British standards (Kendrik 235). In order to achieve this Edward needs to present as a dominant and independent husband in possession of a submissive and dependant wife. This leads Edward into never completely accepting Antoinette as an equal as he views her as a prized possession obtained through marriage; her beauty and wealth carrying ... • 38. Analysis Of The Book Leading From The Second Chair The book Leading From the Second Chair discusses what it is like to lead from the second chair. This was a semi new concept for me. I have always heard of leadership and know that it is something special, however, I never thought of leading from the second chair. This phrase means being a leader but not the person in charge. This is something that is foreign to me. I have always though that a leader is in charge of their section and other leaders are in charge of their section and eventually they come together to put it all together. However, though going through the experience of my internship and going through this book and leadership class I have learned that this is not the case. A Sr. pastor is over the whole church and untimely is where most people look when they see problems going on in the church. The Sr. pastor tends to be the face of the church, just as the president is the face for the United States. To be a second chair leader to the pastor you are either an associate minister, or a small specific type of minister, for example youth, children s, young adults, and so on and so forth. So if you are an associate minister, at least in the United Methodist Church, you may want your Sr. pastors job but you do not really have any say who will get it or not, so most of the time you just do not fight with them. If you are a small specific type of minister you more than likely do not want the Sr. pastor s job because that is not where your calling is or you would not be doing this job. While that is the basis of the structure it is also important to remember that while the Sr. pastor is over those in the second chair more likely than not the Sr. pastor wants your input on things and wants you to succeed. If your Sr. pastor does not want you to succeed then you need to find a different job. With that in mind the first chair is not some one that you should fight with over things but someone you should listen to and bounce ideas off of. I currently use this information while at my internship. Every week I meet with my Sr. pastor to go over the things that I am doing in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Passion For Literature It was an honest question, one not verbose to the point of obscurity, What language do they speak in England? there was a beat, and I, with my ten year old witticism responded to my 17 year old half sister s question with a candid retort, English, duh! . This amused my parents who continued packing their suitcases and travel books, her question stemmed from our much anticipated departure to Great Britain the next day and it had left us all buzzing with excitement. Well when did you become such a know it all? she veered, it was a half hearted jest, more so antagonistic than spiteful as all sibling banter was. Famous philosophers Plato and Bentham have given their ethical viewpoints; from there assumptions can be drawn on their views on capital punishment. The Catholic Church also has its Anti death penalty position. Capital punishment has been a part of human communal society for centuries. Within these three ethical viewpoints society can use them as scopes as to whether it should be acceptable in their community. Their differences strike in their thought process and in what the rehabilitation would entail. In terms of context Bentham is straight up against capital punishment that causes suffering and strongly opposes it. He also spent more time on it then any of his rival or competing philosophers of his time. He comments in his commentary According to Bentham, a punishment, like any other legal practice, must be morally justified in terms of its conduciveness to the appropriate end. Bentham wanted laws that augmented total happiness of the community as his theory on punishment is that they need to justified and rationale and that in it will generate happiness. Plato however had a structure in place, firstly an orator (similar to a lawyer) would request that person stand trial in front of a court, rather than that person going to be put to death they instead would be given a timoria or a trial of retribution similar to getting rehabilitated or being put on parole. While some major offences of his time were still worth capital punishment Plato stressed that if it is possible and there is a chance for rehabilitation then that person deserves it. The impacts of nutrition information on advertisement of fast food chains The fast food industry in the U.S. has rapidly expanded in the past few decades (Hwang, 2013). In 2014, the industry has created a 3% current value growth, indicating its robust and continued ability in the U.S. market overall (Euromonitor, 2015). This strong increase has largely changed Americans lifestyle and eating habits; the amount of money they spend on fast food is more than that on education, readings and videos (Schlosser, 1998). Moreover, the fast food chains spent almost $500 million on cross promotion events with additional $300 million spent on premiums distribution in 2009 (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015). Indeed, by spending around $10 billion on food related ads every year, the food industry becomes the second largest advertiser in America (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015). According to a report from Fast Food Facts, the whole fast food industry spent $4.6 billion on all kinds of advertising in 2012, among which advertising spending of McDonald s was the most. Looking into the way how fast food chain advertisements are considered to be capable in influencing people s eating habits and food preferences (Bernhardt, Wilking, Gilbert Diamond, Emond, Sargent, 2015), it has been attributed to the obesity of Americans (Mink, 2006). Am I precious in the same way the ring is precious to Sméagol (Gollum)? • 48. Catullus Poetry Analysis A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet may incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating a word picture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen 85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem, obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover, Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of old men, because while the sun is able to return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked ones. The strategic placement of the words let us live and let us love literally place Lesbia as the central focus of the work. In the original Latin text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus, which the words vivamus and amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the center of the poet s life and love (Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much more than an erotic, love poem topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the best words in the best possible order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given significant importance. Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). Many people wonder what type of tactical tricks did the unit use and how they knew about it. Actually, the U.S. army got these ideas of the plan of deception from The first President of the United States: George Washington. Washington practiced deception as an art rather than a science. Now the Ghost army was using this Art to fool the Germans ( Ghost Soldier magazine ). The art of tactical deception was their best skill. They wanted to mislead the enemy forces that were going to fall for the tanks and the fake attacks that they were presenting. The commander of the unit had to assign the recruits positions so that each designer and artist would know what to operate: the speakers manipulating gunshot sounds and explosions or the inflatable tank balloons meant to deceive the enemy into thinking a real unit was closeby. The commander created a group called the Effect group, and they would be operating the important equipment in the operation ( Ghost Army Tricked Hitler ). What exactly, though, did the Ghost Army do on the battlefield? • 50. The Conflict Diamonds Of Sierra Leone The conflict diamonds started to be present and problematic in Sierra Leone as soon as DeBeers mining company took control of all diamond prospects throughout this region. Although DeBeers was keeping a moderate watch on the trading and actions being taken through it, traders from Lebanon (bordered by Syria and Israel to the south) were able to easily smuggle and mine diamonds out through the company. Later towards the 1950s, countries, such as Sierra Leone, had to give up the chance of regulating the illicit diamond industry, thus having to warn owners of the mines to provide their own security measures for the mines and land they owned. The issue wasn t justly political or economic until Sierra Leone gained its independence in 1961, letting Siaka Stevens enroll as Prime minister, therefore having a one party ruler. Stevens took control, and monopolized the diamond mines, as well as encouraging them to gain power and fame nationwide. Things were looking austere for diamond control rights and regulations, not only to watch a civil war emerge, surging through the country as fire fought fire and brother fought against brother. As the war extended from 1991 to 1999, it brought forth other problems as a result of citizen on citizen warfare for the diamonds such as rape, murder, and sex slaves.
