Paper On Landscaping
Gardening and landscaping is a wonderful way to make use of your outdoor space. In order for
you to have a beautiful garden, you are going to have to plan it around the conditions that are in
your area. You can have great looking garden anywhere; you just have to make sure that you work
with what you have. Living in the west or southwest where the air is arid and the climate is dry,
will require the planting of drought tolerant plants that can survive the hot and dry conditions that
are present in these areas of the country. Since these areas are close to the desert, they can get
anywhere from 4 to 16 inches of rainannually. Rain is very inconsistent in this area of the country.
Some years they will get very little and other years twice as... Show more content on

The early steps toward winterizing includes weeding, mulching and composting the weeds.
Hopefully, the gardener will have time to weed before the weeds develop seeds. If this should not
be the case, compost or dispose of the resultant greenery away from the garden to prevent a
bumper crop of weeds next year. Cover fallow areas of the garden or future garden patches with
garden cloth or black plastic; lay down a layer of mulch, and cover the mulch with plastic.
Weight it down well. The mulch and plastic will kill the weeds in the future gardening area;
containing the mulch as the filling in a plastic sandwich allows the gardener the ability to lift
away incompletely rotted material without excessive handling. This is especially important for
individuals with mold allergies. As autumn approaches and the nights grow longer and colder,
assess the plants still growing in the garden. Salad beds and even tomato plants can be made to
grow a little longer if surrounded by square hay bales topped with a plastic window . This creates
an impromptu cold frame. The hay or straw provides insulation; the plastic allows sunlight for
photosynthesis and solar heating. Autumn is a good time to plant green manure crops, such as
turnips, that can be tilled into the soil in the spring. It is also a good time to apply slow release
organic fertilizers.

Hand Hygiene Research Paper
Introduction
The dirtiest thing you own maybe your cell phone. Imagine what touches your phone the most,
probably your hands and face. Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most
helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens
everywhere today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria
associated with health care associated infections, Karabay states, Our study reveals that mobile
phones may get contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and
Klebsiella pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread
of nosocomial pathogens (Karabay, 2007). Touching contaminated... Show more content on

These microorganisms are transmitted from poor hand hygiene from health care workers to patients
as well as touching of contaminated equipment and environmental surfaces. Microorganisms are
most commonly introduced to susceptible sites such as open wounds or other portals of entry by
contaminated hands. Infection leads to adverse clinical outcomes and can directly threat patient
recovery.
Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that
healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some
of the barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks,
insufficient time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some
solutions they explain to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where
sinks are not around and placing them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can
be a suitable way for proper hand hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also
describe, Involve staff in trying several alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and
involve employee health services in creating a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff.
Alcohol based sanitizers that have lotion in them can be helpful for staff who have very sensitive
skin (Hass amp; Larson, 2009).

Military Deployment Essay
We wait. We Hope. We pray. Until you re home again. When you re home, we re more than a
family. We are a nation... that is whole again. That is a very famous quote said by Oprah Winfrey
about our military personnel and family members. Military deployments have many stages
including pre deployment, deployment, post deployment, and the aftermath of the military. These
will affect the military member from the time they are active duty, to being a veteran. The pre
deployment is from the time the orders are assigned to the time the military member leaves for
deployment. The deployment is from the time the member leaves to the time they return back to
their duty station. The post deployment typically lasts about the three to six months after the
deployment ends. The period of being a veteran is from the time the member resigns or retires from
the military for the rest of their lives.
The first phase of the deployment is the pre deployment. The pre deployment phase beings from ...

PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This can occur when the service member has
experienced, heard, or seen that was traumatic or scary; which this traumatizing to the member. In
totally throughout America, about 7.8% of Americans will at one time in their lives experience
PTSD; whether it is temporary or permanent. When considering the service members in a combat
zone, about 30% of them will experience PTSD as well. PTSD will typically occur during the
times of night. This is because studies have proven that more flashbacks occur at night. PTSD
symptoms include flashbacks and nightmares about past events that have traumatic to the person,
not always a military member, but typically is. Because military members that go to combat zones
are exposed to more traumatic events than a typical person, they are more likely to experience

The History And Transitions Of Music
The history and transitions of music has had many talented persons that have influenced music
but none are so well known as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van
Beethoven. All three of these great composers performed during the Classic period and it would
act as the base of classic music for the next one hundred and fifty, to two hundred years. The
names of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are so well known that people who have little to no
knowledge of music will recognize their names. The urban communities of Austria and Germany
would find the settings from 1750 1820 that would become known as the classical period. The
Classic period had many developments such as the sonata, symphony and string quartet along with
a growth of opera houses and concert halls were abundant during the classical period. The Golden
Age will later refer to this time of classical music. The works of Franz Joseph Hayden, Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozartand Ludwig van Beethovenwill be everlasting in the world of classical music.
There are many opinions of the three big composers that do not include Haydn, Mozart and
Beethoven, furthermore everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Franz Joseph Haydn was born in Austria March 31st 1732 and died May 31st 1809 at age seventy
seven. Haydn s parents who neither one could read music but his father had been a folk musician

Should People Learn English Before They Move To The United...
How should people from other countries adjust to living in the United States the best ? Should
people move to bigger cities and then to smaller, or move to smaller cities and then bigger. Or get
better jobs before they come to the new country, and get their children ready for school. What I
think people should do from other countries for adjusting in America better are: moving to a smaller
cityfirst, learning english before they move to the United States, and to familiarize themselves with
the technology before they arrive .
Why do I think moving to a smaller city is best? I think this, because moving to a smaller city first
can make it easier for them to adjust, because there aren t a ton of people and the streets aren t
packed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, because when they get to the United States and get a Job they can know what people are
saying. Also they can teach their kids how to speech english for when they go to school. In my
research it says that everyone when they get to the United States has to take an english test, and
that anyone who takes it must be ready for it . If people did learn english before they came to
America it will help them get a job and read what signs say e.t.c.
Should people that are moving to the United States familiarize themselves with the technology ?
Yes, because when they get to the United States they can know how to use it. I my research it says
that they should have a friend or somebody take them to concerts, movies, and show them how the
technology works . Being familiarized with the technology can help them in their jobs, school
things, and getting in touch with people from the country that they immigrated from.
So how should people from other countries adjust to living in the United States the best ? They
should move to a smaller city when they arrive, learn english before they move, and to familiarize
themselves with the technology. These are what I think people who are moving to America should
do to adjust

The Passion And Oppression Of The Scaffold In Nathaniel...
The Passion and Oppression of the Scaffold A motif is a recurring subject, theme, idea, etc.,
especially in a literary, artistic,or musical work. A scaffold is an elevated platform on which a
criminal is executed that was used in the olden days as a site of public shaming. It was, in short, the
platform of the pillory...punishment to do. (Chapter 2). The scaffold scenes in the Scarlet Letter
seem to be the most significant motifs in the novel. First off, the dominant symbol, scarlet letter A,
and all of the main characters, Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, Pearl, and Roger
Chillingworth, are present at each scaffold scene. The location of the scenes in the text also
provides a relevance to the novel: the first scene is in the first third... Show more content on

Dimmesdale is on the verge of dying at any moment, but he does not want to die without letting
out the truth. He tries to confess his sin in a sermon, but it just makes the townspeople love him
more. Finally he resorts to revealing his scarlet letter A chest to the public and calling upon
Hester and Pearl to stand with him on the scaffold, Hester, said he, Come hither! Come, my little
Pearl! . Dimmesdale is so weak, dim, and fragile that he requests help from Hester to carry him
up to the scaffold. Chillingworth is still a psychotic fiend, but he can no longer wish any harm
upon Dimmesdale because his life has basically hit rock bottom, sick, dying, unforgiven sinner,
and lier for years. Therefore, without any more purpose in life, Chillingworth ultimately ends up
withering and dying. In this scene, as in the other two scaffold scenes, all of the main characters
are present, and the key symbols of the scarlet letter, the scaffold, the symbol of Church and State,
Pearl, and the meteor are all involved at one point or

Background Of The Arabian Nights
Background of The Arabian Nights The Islamic Golden Age Among several renown works of
the Islamic Golden Age is The Thousand and One Nights, which was consolidated between the
10th and the 14th centuries, and which later became a source of inspiration for not only many
writers, but also for the Arabian Theater. The Islamic Golden Age refers to the period when the
Muslim world was ruled by various caliphates, which came to an end in 1258 due to the Mongol
invasions and the sack of Baghdad. Nonetheless, this period is still known for its scientific
flourishing and cultural boom, and during this period, knowledge had become such a great priority

It is, in fact, a blend of Greek, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Persian and Arab sources although
scholars agree that the frame story, of Shahrazad saving herself from execution by King
Shahriyar by recounting a series of entertaining stories and using cliffhangers each night, is
likely of Indian origin. The tales of The Thousand and One Nights are rooted in oral traditions,
and these tales were further popularized by various professional storytellers who would recite
them in coffeehouses, the main forums for interactions between people, all over the Middle East.
These tales contain three major strains: Indo Persian stories that were later adapted into Arabic,
stories composed in Baghdad, and stories composed in Egypt. It is said that the Arabian Nights
actually originates from an old Persian book called Hazar Afsana, or A Thousand Legends, which
was later translated into Arabic. The tales of Hazar Afsana were modified between the 10th and the
16th centuries, and they, in turn, gave us one of the most famous books in Classical Arabic
Literature, The Thousand and One Nights. This unusual title was known in the 12th century, and it
came to be not because there were a thousand and one stories, nor because Shahrazad continuously
told stories for a thousand and one nights, but merely because a thousand and one is used to signify
a large number close to infinity, and because in the Ancient East, time was counted in nights and
not in days. Moreover, it is said that this title most likely originated from the Turkish expression bin
bir which means a thousand and one, and is often used to indicate a large number or an
unimaginable amount of

The Turks were so in love with the coffee, that they would actually par boil the beans, so they
could not be transported to other parts of the world and re planted. It is said though, that an Indian
named Baba Budan smuggled beans to India in his stomach and that the Dutch eventually got hold

Europe.
The beans eventually made their way to Java and by 1683 Mocha and Java were the most popular

Balloon Angioplasty Essay
1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world accounting for
17.5 million people, or more than 30% of all deaths. Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery
disease, which is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or
becomes blocked, intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi
vessel coronary artery disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a
better method due to the greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those
with a single vessel obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary
intervention (PCI) has been shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved
using balloon angioplasty, which was first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS)
By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS) were developed to overcome the limitations of
balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal lattices that hold the vessel open, which
prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. They are delivered using a catheter mounted balloon
inserted either in the brachial or femoral artery, which is then threaded to the site of blockage in the
coronary artery. The balloon is inflated, and the stent is released covering the stenosed lesion...

(32.4%); ST segment elevation MIs (17.7%); reimbursement/other reasons (9.4%); advanced age

(9.5%); planned surgery within 12 months (5.5%); and anticipated poor dual antiplatelet therapy
(DAPT) compliance (1.7%). Patients often receive BMS over DES to avoid long term DAPT; this
reduces treatment from 1 year for DES to 1 month for BMS

Why Building Self Confidence Is Vital
Confidence. Some are born with it, some have to grind for it, and others are unaware on how to
obtain it. It is something either one has or lacks, but can always be accomplished over time. Self
confidence can loosely be defined as the capability of a person to have assurance in his or her
aptitudes and capability. Self confidenceis the key to triumph, or the first step to success and
happiness. Possessing self confidencecan help to give wings to soar and develop a high level of
passion, joy, optimismand understanding within the individual. It gives the credence that one
can challenge the world and pave a path for one s self that will lead them to their visions and
aspirations. This describes exactly why building self confidence is vital and how crucial self
confidence is to one s persona. Joy, courage and self confidence go hand in hand. Courage, in the
present perspective, refers to the capability of being able to have faith despite the opposition or
complications involved. Fear is the primary adversary of self confidence and fulfilment. With
courage, you overcome all limitations and doubts to follow your accomplished targets. This
predictably increases the likelihood of your success. Self confidence and courage give the control to
write one s own destiny. Helen Keller said, Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing
can be done without hope and confidence.
The denotation of confidence is the belief in oneself and one s powers or abilities. Everybody is

Gun Control Laws Should Have A Balance
America has the highest amount of gun related deaths each year in the world. In Germany 381,
in France 255, in Canada 165 in the United Kingdom 68, in Australia 65, in Japan 39 and in the
United States, 11,127 (Moore Michael, 51:15 51:48). Since the United States has the highest
number of deaths, it is important to have gun control laws that restrict people from owning
dangerous firearms like machine guns. Gun control laws should support both sides of the debate.
Of course, both sides will not be completely happy with the laws created, but America should have
a balance. In 2008, a poll was taken stating: Adult poll respondents views on the meaning of the
Second Amendment; An individual s right to bear arms: Republican 51% and Democrats 41% (The
History of the Right to Bear Arms). Today, the United States
is more divided on gun control than it
has ever been. The Second Amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
(Milestones in Federal Gun Control Legislation). Unless the Second Amendment is changed, we
cannot take the right from others to own guns. However, the government should regulate the types
of gun Americans can own and who can own a gun because times have changed and American s
mental health system is broken.
Decades ago, the United States was once a country where a gun was considered to survive and

Epic Poetry By Homer And Catullus Essay
From ancient Greek to Roman literature, styles and genres in writing changed drastically. The
Greeks were adamant on showing their extensive knowledge of myth, often referencing the most
obscure myths. The gods mentioned in their poems often had crucial roles necessary for
developing the plot, or they were the reason the story began at all. The Romans however were
very educated, and showed this in their works by referencing older Greek literature or authors
instead of direct myths. Another drastic difference in the divergent genres, namely epics and lyrics,
is the expression of love, which through Homer and Catullus, shows us how love can be
expressed as erotic, familial, or as a love of place by the protagonists and secondary characters,
despite whether it is the primary or secondary theme. In Greek literature a prominent author is
Homer, whom we don t know if actually existed or if Homer is a pseudonym for a collective
group of writers. Homer is popular for writing epic poetry, which follows the heroic journey of the
protagonist through a lengthy narrative. In epics, the poet focuses on the main character s search

Racism In Do The Right Thing
Do the Right Thing (1989) is about a young black man, Mookie, living in a Puerto Rican
neighborhood in Brooklyn with his sister. He works at a local pizzeria, Sal s Pizzeria, and has a
girlfriend named Tina with whom he has a kid with and his name is Hector. Sal can been seen as
racist in some scenarios, but not nearly as racist as his son Pino who also works at the Pizzeria.
Pino dislikes African Americans, but most of his favorite celebrities are black. Sal has another
son, Vito, who also works at the Pizzeria and is friends with Mookie. As mentions before, Sal can
be seen as racist in some cases, one being that he does not have any black celebrities in his
Pizzeria. This causes a big scene when Buggin Out notices this, which forcefully

The Impact Of Technology On The Financial Sector
SOCIAL In the years since the 2008/2009 financial crisis, mistrust of the banking and financing
industry remains high (Erman, 2013). This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector,
including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the
market crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American
populace dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came
to a head two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement
(Erman, 2013). While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the
increased regulation that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part
of this negative backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the
financial system (Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash
was any less successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from
both an internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all
industries are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly
being done via computer instead. This has lowered overhead costs and has increased the computing
power of those making the investments. Externally, the boom in technology is providing a plethora
of investment opportunities. Industry

Online Shopping Case Study
Who would have ever imagined that buying groceries online would be an option to the general
public? The internet has taken over nearly every aspect of the business world, and the grocery
business is the most recent item added to the list. The grocery business is enormous, but they were
uncertain about what their future may hold due to the increase in online retail. They knew that
their next move would have to be to take their business online if they wanted to continue to
flourish. Amazon saw this as a perfect target to grow their industry, as well. This is one of the
many reasons why Amazon decided to buy out Whole Foods. Unfortunately, this decision will have

According to Harrison (2014), Whole Foods Market has grown into a natural and organic food
empire, with nearly 400 locations, more than 80,000 employees, and annual sales exceeding $12
billion, , and it has continued to expand to 460 locations since then. Amazon is looking to
amplify their business through Whole Food s numerous locations all over the world. Whole
Foods has acquired the nickname Whole Paycheck due to the high prices of their groceries
(Wingfield Merced, 2017, para. 8), and because of this aspect, they struggled to compete with
stores such as Walmart and Kroger who have reasonable pricing. They often have better and
healthier products, but consumers are drawn to lower prices. Struggling to attract customer has
led to Whole Foods losing a fifth of its value in the last three years (Gensler, 2017, para. 5). With
that being said, Amazon saw this as the perfect opportunity to save Whole Foods s business, as
well as help their own. On June 16th, Amazon announced that they were going to buy Whole
Foods in a $13.7 billion deal. In this deal, Amazon would pay $42 per share in cash for the
company, which represents a 27% premium to the closing price (Gensler, 2017, para. 2). Back in
the day, many people thought of online stores and physical stores as two things that would never
overlap. Amazon and Whole Foods saw the potential in combining the two. In this arrangement,
consumers can order their goods online and

Scapegoats In The Crucible
In the play The Crucible, the use of scapegoats is rampant; the main use being to place blame
onto others in order to deflect blame from themselves or to help reach a goal. Those that don t
agree with the majority or have differing ideas are outcasts and easily made scapegoats. Many of
the scapegoats in the play can attribute the blame they receive to the antagonist, Abigail
Williams. Three primary examples of people that are scapegoats because of Abigail are, the
Parris servant Tituba, the Proctor s servant Mary Warren, and Elizabeth Proctor the wife of
Abigail s past infatuation. At the start of the play Abigail faces accusations from Parris and
Reverend Hale of dancing in the woods. Knowing that dancing in the woods is a very critical

Throughout the play we see instances where Abigail shows she still has feelings for John saying
things like Give me a word, John. A soft word. , but she is only met with rejection from John No,

righteous life. Even though John has made his intentions clear Abby continuously attempts to
sway him ...do you tell me you ve never looked up at my window? (Miller 23) believing he will
still come back to her. After still facing rejection from John, Abigail believes the only reason he
denies her is because of his wife. Knowing that she has the power to condemn people by accusing
them of witchcraft, Abigail decides that it is the only option she has to be with John. As time
goes on the Proctor family is torn apart when Cheever, a clerk of the court, comes with a warrant
for Elizabeth. The Proctor s find out the reason for the arrest is because of attempted murder
through the use of witchcraft. It is to our understanding that a poppet that is in the possession of
Elizabeth, given to her by their servant, Mary, was used to attempt to murder Abigail . As the
situation goes on we discover the entire ordeal was an elaborate plan by Abigail when Mary
says ...she saw me sewin it in court. Or better still: Ask Abby, Abby sat beside me when I made

The Is The Heartbeat Of Every Human Enterprise Essay
Hope Deferred Hope is the heartbeat of every human enterprise. It s the power of reason and the
fuel of passion for man s constant pursuit to improve his living conditions and reach unattained
goals. Hope reflects the ethos of its subject and the nature of its object. To know the essence of a
person it suffices to discover his/her hope. To know the reliability of our hope it is necessary to
uncover the liability of what we hope in. The need for redemption feeds hope. The redemption of
a carnal man is self sufficiency (Jeremiah 9:23 24); paradoxically the redemption of the spiritual
man is God dependency (Jeremiah 29:11). Strong s Concordance tiqvah: cord (6965) Original

Step 3: Relapse Education
Relapsers have to be familiar with the relapse process and the best ways to manage it. Involving
the family and other sponsors is a great idea. The education should strive to emphasize four main
messages: First, relapse is an ordinary and a natural process in the recovery out of the chemical
dependence. One should not be ashamed of it like in the case of Jed who gets jumpy when he
tries to stay away from drinking, feeling closed in or like he is suffocating . He also cannot
imagine how to explain to his buddies why he is not joining them in the bars. Secondly, people are
not all of a sudden taken drunk. There are gradual warning sign patterns that indicate they are
slowly cropping in again. Such signs can only be recognized when one is sober. Thirdly, after they

Professional staffing is a necessity for the success of the EAP. Organizations should ensure EAP

experienced an expansion in certifications with the assistance from the Occupational Programs

the establishment of standards of professional practice and conduct was established under the

In the case Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562 , Lord Macmillan said in his judgment that That
duty, in my opinion, he owes to those whom he intends to consume his product. This concluded that
Stevenson did owed a duty of care to Donoghue even though she is not the one who bought the
drink but she is the one who drank it and that Stevenson did breached the duty of care between
them. Lord Atkin put forward the neighbour principle, which states that:
The rule that you are to love your neighbour becomes in law, you must not injure your neighbour...
You must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would
be likely to injure your neighbour...
Therefore, the food vendor did owe a duty of care to Luke. Duty of care is the obligation
imposed on a person to take reasonable care to ensure that they do not cause another person to
suffer harm . Duty of care exists between a food vendor and the consumer. In this case, the food
vendor breached his duty of care to Luke. In the case Lynch v Lynch (1991) 25 NSWLR 411,
Lynch was born with disability as a result of his mother s negligence. The court held that the
mother did owed a duty of care to her children .

easiest for customers to understand and plan for ahead of time. CompuServe and Prodigy offered
the same pricing as AOL for its standard service, but, charged additional feesfor premium services

If subscriber acquisition costs are written off (expensed) instead of being capitalized, the value
of the asset created by this cost will not show up on the balance sheet as part of the total assets of
the firm. This, in turn, creates ripple effects for the measurement of capital and profitability ratios
for the firm. The balance sheet would show a reduction in the amount of assets by $130,473
million (See Appendix C.1). The profitability ratios (ROE, ROA and ROC) are much better when
the costs are capitalized (See Appendix C.2).
Expensing subscriber acquisition costs increases expenses in the income statement by $51,467
million and causes the operating income and net income to be much lower than if they were
capitalized. The operating income and net income consists of loss of $19,294 million and
$33,647 respectively in the case of capitalization versus a loss of $70,131 million and $84,484
respectively in the case of expensing (See Appendix B). However, there is a superior tax benefit if

Corporate Social Responsibility Definition
This research study is about what the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is, how people
define and how I understand this term? According to my research and observations, CSR does
not have only one and constant definition. I have read a lot of definitions of CSR and in fact,
they are similar but not the same. Briefly, definition and understanding of CSR depends on
person to person. Thus, I am going to talk about definitions of the CSR and I will define my own
perspective about the CSR. As I mentioned, CSR does not have one definition. There is huge

THE PYRAMID OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
According to Archie Caroll, who found CSR pyramid, there are 4 aspects of Corporate Social
Responsibilities which is divided in Economic, Legal, Ethical and Philanthropic
Responsibilities. Corporate Citizens are expected to be profitable, be abiding the laws, be
ethical and be charitable to society. (Carrol, July Aug. 1991.) This pyramid reflects what the
CSR is by defining the responsibilities of the corporations in four different stages. First level is
Economic responsibilities of the corporations which refers the corporations main goal, making or
being profitable. Second step Legal Responsibilities, this stage explains how the corporations act
when they do business, obey the laws and follow the rules. Third part of the pyramid is about
Ethical responsibilities of the corporations. This step reflects being ethical. On the other word,
what the right and wrong is. In addition, Corporations should avoid unfair and non ethical actions
in the society. Finally, top of the pyramid reflects being good corporate citizen. I think, it suggests
corporations should follow the laws and rules, pay the taxes, do the right and ethical, and take care
of its workers and environment. In my opinion this pyramid reflects my exact definition about the
CSR.

Kid Rock, Fuel, and Buckcherry
For my first critical essay, I have chosen to review my attendance and experience at a rock concert.
On Thursday January 18, at the Scottenstein Center in Columbus, I attended the concert of the
controversial Kid Rock. Other performers at the show included rock bands Fuel and Buckcherry.
Although there were only three bands that preformed that night, I found another source of
entertainment within the crowd of people; the wild antics of the die hard fans. In my essay I will
try and attempt to describe as realistically as possible, my experience. Prior to the concert I had
been somewhat familiar with all three bands music. I was excited to attend the show, but I didn t

After about a twenty minute wait, the first band took the stage. The first band was my favorite of
the three, Fuel. Fuel made a calm but cool appearance, and put on what I felt to be a great show.
After they were done, I thought that the eighteen dollars I spent to buy a ticket was already well
worth it.
Fuel has many songs on the radio, so the fans sang along and seemed to have a good time.
I also found myself getting extremely into their performance at times, and screaming out their
lyrics in unison. After they exited the stage I heard a couple of nearby fans wishing they had
played longer. Overall, their performance was outstanding. As we waited for the next band to take
the stage, more people filtered into the arena. As more people arrived, I found the noise level to
jump also. The space in front of the stage that I was occupying, seemed to get smaller and smaller
as more people squeezed in. After another tedious wait,
Buckcherry arrived. Their entrance was a little bit louder and more fans seemed to get into it
this time. As they played, I realized their music to be very heavy and thrashing at times. One
song almost gave me a headache. On the up side, I enjoyed one of their songs a lot. It is called All
Lit Up . It gained great airplay on the radio a couple of years ago, and I actually have it in my
collection at home. When Buckcherry performed this song I found myself jumping up and down

The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization
Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of
improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to
increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of
undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilizationrefers to
the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by
those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands
of lives and impacted individual in multiple ways.
Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual
deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411).
Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class
and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In
addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial
burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014).
Eugenic Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded
(Kaelber, 2014). These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates
believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the
undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human
population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it
was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the law was unconstitutional and there
the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The landmark 1927 United States
Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many eugenic sterilization programs
across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General Assembly passed new
sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). It stated that the governing body or the responsible head of any
penal or charitable institution supported wholly or in part by the State

Simultaneous bilingualism describes a situation in which a child learns more than one language
from birth, meaning they are spoken to in both languages on a regular basis. If this occurs
throughout the final stages of language development, the child will be able to fluently speak and
understand both languages; both languages are considered the child s first speaking language. On
the other hand, sequential bilingualism occurs when a second language is not learned as a native
language but taught as a foreign language instead (Rowe, B. M., amp; Levine, D. P., 2006). This
could occur in an immigrant family, for example, perhaps the parents do not speak the native

The fact that code switching comes in as a factor supporting the unitary language systems
hypothesis moves me in the direction that ultimately sequential bilingualism makes the most sense.
We must keep in mind, though, that the abilities of language learners become influenced not only
by their innate abilities, but by society, the community they live in, their family life, and other
outside influences which could assist or impair linguistic competence. Overall, whether a child
learns a language from birth and is spoken to in those languages on a regular basis like in
simultaneous bilingualism, or if they learn a language foreign to them later in life as in sequential
bilingualism, the fact that the human brain can process and communicate in so many ways is
miraculous.

including the white portions, the recipe should yield very similar results. Set these items aside and

place them in the glass pan. Take a flour tortilla(I use Mission brand burrito size flour tortillas)

beans. Add a tablespoon of the cream sauce. Next, sprinkle some grated cheese on it. I like to go

need a sprinkle of the green onions and the diced tomatoes. While adding the sauce, cheese, onions,
and tomatoes, keep in mind that you need to save some on the side for a topping, so sparingly use
these items. Then, roll the tortillas and place them in the glass pan. Make sure, when you place the

Dangers Of Deforestation
Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment?
Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the
rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of
earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to
make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many
reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a
profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and
growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and
burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a
combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may
prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and

Cultural Differences Between France And April Fools
Hooray! Went the family in a joyful sound for Christmas was near. Everyone loves holidays in
some way, spending time with family and receiving gifts show two ways of the greatness in
holidays. The French holidays connect to many of the United States holidays when referring to
April Fools Day, Mother s Day, ChristmasDay, and Bastille Day.
The French, just like America have the same holiday as we do, April Fools Day. The French
celebrate this holiday on April 1 yearly just like the American culture. Except in France they call

The country France celebrates their independence day on July 14th while ours is on July 4th.
This day reminds the French the end of the French Monarchy and the next start into the French
Revolution. Basically this day symbolizes the great day of many French people rebelling against
the royal powers in France. The word Bastille comes from the name of a prison located in Paris
that broke out to start the revolution. Every year, down the famous French Avenue, the largest
parade in all of the continent Europe takes place on this very date in remembrance of this
holiday. A very big connections between the French and the Americans is on our independence
day s we both like using many fireworks to light up the sky! The main firework display takes place
right over the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Bastille Day and our July 4th connect very well to one

Analysis Of The Three Golden Hairs By Parker Fillmore
The Three Golden Hairs by Parker Fillmore, is a Czechoslovak folktale which is about a charcoal
burner s son s fate in marrying a king s daughter leading him to eventually rule. The story
revolves around the king doing everything in order to keep his daughter free from this marriage.
However, in the reading, there is a great deal of emphasis on power. This leads to the conclusion
that power through monarchy s in the culture of Czechoslovakia are a great deal of importance.
Throughout the story, the king steadily tried to control his own power as king. Until, the
obsession of power fell out of his hands and led to a complete downfall. A King who was a hunter

A few days later, the King sent a steward to retrieve the charcoal burners baby and ordered him to
drown the child, or else, he will be drowned himself (para. 15). The steward dropped the baby
into the river and assumed the baby had drowned, yet the basket containing the baby only
floated down the river and into the hands of a fisherman (para. 18). The fisherman said to his
wife, You have always wanted a little son and here you have one. The river has given him to us
(para. 19). The couple felt they had been blessed with the son they had been waiting for. Just
twenty years later, the King found himself in the vicinity of the land and river of the fisherman
and ran into his son, Plavachek, the baby who he thought was once drowned, but was now
grown up (para. 24). The King asks for the fisherman to find him a messenger to bring a letter to
his palace (para. 26). The fisherman immediately offers to have his son assist the King in this
request. The King wrote his wife the letter which read, Have the young man who delivers this
letter run through with a sword at once. He is a dangerous enemy. Let him be dispatched before I
return... (para. 29). With the letter in hand, Plavachek begins his retreat to the palace, gets lost
along the way and meets one of his godmothers who reads and changes the letters message. The
message now read, Have the young man who delivers this letter married to our daughter at once.

Traditional And Blended Learning
Blended learning is a combination of multiple approaches for teaching. It is where a mix of
different learning methods that together in learning and teaching (Garrison Vaughan, 2008). The
methods are the traditional learning method and online learning. Traditional learning is face to face
teaching. This type of method is where the students will listen to the instructor through visual,
whiteboard, case studies and etc. It is an immediate interaction as the students have a chance to ask
question or doubts to the teacher right there and then. By doing this, they get to participate more
actively in class and they also will have an opportunity for them to learn something new from their
fellow classmates. Online learningis a method of learning that an individual learns outside of the

Public Libraries Should Not Block Internet Pornography
Since the internet has been available in schools and libraries in this country, there has been a debate
about what should be accessible to users, especially minors. The amount of information
disseminated on the world wide web is vast, with some sources valuable for scholarly and personal
research and entertainment, and some sources that contain material that is objectionable to some
(ie. pornography, gambling, hate groups sites, violent materials). Some information potentially

Plaintiffs claimed that constitutionally protected materials were wrongly blocked and that the
Loudoun Policy violated their First Amendment rights. The court agreed and found the Loudoun
Policy of filtering for all patrons unconstitutional. The court held that there were less restrictive
means available to achieve the privacy level demanded by the Loudoun County community than
interfering with free speech. Less restrictive, in the court s opinion, were privacy screens for
computer monitors and a certain degree of physical monitoring by library staff.
Congress made an attempt to place content based restrictions on school and public library internet
use in the Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) of 2000. This act requires the use of some
type of internet filtering software for all public libraries that attain funds from the Federal
government (in the form of E rate discounts or Library Services and Technology Act grants).
Should a library refuse to comply with CIPA guidelines, that library would have to maintain its
technological services without the government discount or LSTA grants. Holding to the CIPA
guidelines, both the E rate and LSTA stipulate that filters may be disabled or legitimate sites
unblocked by adults who request it, but it is unclear whether libraries must provide for such
disabling (Anten 79).

School Environment And The Classroom Environment
Do you remember ever as a kid dreading going to school? Somedays you just really didn t feel
like it, but you had to anyway. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school whatsoever, or was it really
the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids today are facing those exact same problems
each day. It s time to get to the bottom of it. The school environment children spend most of their
day is a place many kids across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school
environment that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling
them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a small percentage
of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety percent, that is completely false,
and it is crucial we emphasize that. School environment issues include children being allowed to
have their cell phones in the classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of
homeworkkids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them anxiety
and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would push back students
schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake up just as early as before the in the
morning. To begin, some students and teachers are wishing to bring cell phones into the classroom
more often. They are becoming rather eager to have cell phones be the next step in transforming
our classrooms into techonology

Latin American Indigenous Groups Essay
Indigenous groups in Latin America have unfortunately suffered from losing many of their rights

While many in the United States and Peru saw this agreement as positive legislation for further
economic growth in both the U.S and Peru, many indigenous groups in Peru had concerns and
doubts. Many indigenous people participated in demonstrations and protests against the TPA.
The government often criminalized and repressed these relatively peaceful acts. On June 5th
2009, outside of Bagua Chica city violence ended up breaking out between sides, leading to 11
members of the police force and 23 civilians dead ( Peru Overturns ). WOLA along with 12 other
human rights groups wrote a letter to the U.S Secretary of State asking for the government to
examine the TPA, clarify it, and possibly repeal parts if necessary. They also condemned the
violence that had happened on both sides of the dispute (WOLA). The Peruvian government
decided to throw out a couple parts of the legislation to try and make the indigenous activists happy.
While this did help calm things down there are still ongoing environmental problems especially for
indigenous peoples. There was not only a national outcry for change, but also an international one as

The Patent Law Of Taiwan
This thesis is to address the possibility of adapting the patent law in Taiwan, compared with what is
done in India. These adjustments utilize the so called TRIPS flexibilities embodied in the TRIPS
Agreement (The Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights), as Annex
1C of the Marrakesh Agreement establishing the World Trade Organization (hereinafter the WTO)
which came into effect in January, 1995. As a trade off between promoting knowledge diffusion
and exclusivity to use the knowledge, the patent system is part of the minimum standard established
in the course of the globalization of intellectual propertyright (IPR). The formation of TRIPS also
demonstrates that the strength of private sector and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the root of the intellectual property rights inevitably goes to the inherent public goods
analysis, favoring partially the inventor s power of control will become a burden for users and
competitors. Excessive protection may ultimately reduce competition barrier and weaken the
power of the national innovation. If developing countries can render their laws to curve it to the
pro competitive strategy, and this would allow the technology free rider countries to become fair
followers, as Professor Reichman indicates. In this way, developing countries can make use of
TRIPS flexibilities, because wiggle room in fact exists in the TRIPS Agreement. For example,
Brazil employs this idea in constructing its compulsory license requirements in its copyright law;
South Africa adopted a more stringent patent protection than the TRIPS Agreement demands while
incorporated a safeguard clause to facilitate the use of essential drugs. Another good example of
employing TRIPS flexibilities is the patent law of India. Before the TRIPS Agreement was
negotiated, India s patent law did not regard pharmaceutical chemicals as subject matter of
protection and India consequentially became one of world s top generic drug producers. However,
in order to comply with

How Does Goya Design Transcend Into Modern Caricature And...
Baudelaire once said, Caricatures are often the most faithful mirror of life. The art of caricature was
established into print in eighteenth century England as a form of commentary on the current events
of the time. Caricature as a style itself is a combination of two separate social inventions. Caricature
Adopting the Italian invention of caricatura the graphic exaggeration of facial and bodily features
for comic effect and combining it with an updated repertoire of visual metaphor, personification,
and allegorical attributes. Though born in England, the story about to be told in this paper is one
of Spanish origin, a story about Francisco Goya. This paper will discuss how Goya implemented
painting, drawing, and printing technique to stimulate social critique of and satirize the subjects of
his works. Then how does Goya s methodology transcend into modern caricature and social
critique?
Before one can talk about his prints, one must understand who Francisco Goya is as an artist. Goya
was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker of late 18th and early 19th centuries and throughout
his long career was an important commentator and chronicler of his era. Goya produced a great
number of works in a variety of media in his lifetime. He did religious subjects in painted frescos
and portraits, he then also depicted life in Spain through aquatints, etchings, and lithographs .

Analysis Of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams was born in Columbus, Mississippi in 1911. A Streetcar Named Desire was
set at around his time and it describes the decline of the Southern Belle named Blanche DuBois.
The pathos found in Williams s drama came from the playwright s own life. Alcoholism,
depression, loneliness, desire, as well as insanity all played a huge part throughout William s
lifetime, thus, incorporating these into his own life. Williams portrayed different social groups in
his plays, and how they clash (such as the role of men and women, the urban and southern
lifestyles) to criticize many aspects of society such as social criticism.
Women are shown to be fragile and unable to depend on themselves but require a male. Stella and

This indicates that both of the characters clash due to the differences in beliefs about the
American dream. Stanley believes that everyone should be equal and should have equal
opportunities to live a proper life. Blanche is trying hard to separate her past and move on with a
new, fresh life. However in the end, she was unable to complete her dreams which could suggest
that the American dream may not exist since Blanche was unable to achieve it. Furthermore,
love is the main desire for Blanche and Mitch was represented as her main desire for love but, he
did not replace her previous love. However, this connotes that she was able to achieve some
aspects of her American dream or her desire by meeting Mitch when she says Yes I want Mitch...
very badly! Just think! If it happens! I can leave here and not be anyone s problem... (Williams,
1959). Blanche is looking for the emotional aspects of a relationship with Mitch rather than seeking
the physical aspects. This was portrayed when Mitch wanted to kiss her but she

In an Information Age, we can easily solve mathematical equations with the use of calculator
instead of solving it manually or using abacus which is limited only to some countries, we can use
computers to research almost everything, there is also the mobile phones which makes us
connected to each other to talk about the incoming projects, assignments and to take pictures of our
lessons instead of taking down notes. Although there are many advantages of using Technology,
there are also some risks that the students may encounter. Abusive use of Cell phones, Computers
and the Internet may waste too much time because instead of studying they might just play games,

The Effects Of Physical Child Abuse On Children
Effects of Physical Child Abuse Why do folks abuse their child or children? Child abuse includes
physical mistreatment and neglect, and happens everywhere throughout the world. These poor little

become recognized by professions until around the elate 1960s and early 1970s, the abuse of
children has been a feature of most societies for many centuries (p.133). The most obvious or

minor wounds on the body, such as bruises, or it can be very severe, such as broken bones or

  • 2. Paper On Landscaping Gardening and landscaping is a wonderful way to make use of your outdoor space. In order for you to have a beautiful garden, you are going to have to plan it around the conditions that are in your area. You can have great looking garden anywhere; you just have to make sure that you work with what you have. Living in the west or southwest where the air is arid and the climate is dry, will require the planting of drought tolerant plants that can survive the hot and dry conditions that are present in these areas of the country. Since these areas are close to the desert, they can get anywhere from 4 to 16 inches of rainannually. Rain is very inconsistent in this area of the country. Some years they will get very little and other years twice as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The early steps toward winterizing includes weeding, mulching and composting the weeds. Hopefully, the gardener will have time to weed before the weeds develop seeds. If this should not be the case, compost or dispose of the resultant greenery away from the garden to prevent a bumper crop of weeds next year. Cover fallow areas of the garden or future garden patches with garden cloth or black plastic; lay down a layer of mulch, and cover the mulch with plastic. Weight it down well. The mulch and plastic will kill the weeds in the future gardening area; containing the mulch as the filling in a plastic sandwich allows the gardener the ability to lift away incompletely rotted material without excessive handling. This is especially important for individuals with mold allergies. As autumn approaches and the nights grow longer and colder, assess the plants still growing in the garden. Salad beds and even tomato plants can be made to grow a little longer if surrounded by square hay bales topped with a plastic window . This creates an impromptu cold frame. The hay or straw provides insulation; the plastic allows sunlight for photosynthesis and solar heating. Autumn is a good time to plant green manure crops, such as turnips, that can be tilled into the soil in the spring. It is also a good time to apply slow release organic fertilizers. ... • 3. Hand Hygiene Research Paper Introduction The dirtiest thing you own maybe your cell phone. Imagine what touches your phone the most, probably your hands and face. Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens everywhere today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria associated with health care associated infections, Karabay states, Our study reveals that mobile phones may get contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread of nosocomial pathogens (Karabay, 2007). Touching contaminated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These microorganisms are transmitted from poor hand hygiene from health care workers to patients as well as touching of contaminated equipment and environmental surfaces. Microorganisms are most commonly introduced to susceptible sites such as open wounds or other portals of entry by contaminated hands. Infection leads to adverse clinical outcomes and can directly threat patient recovery. Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some of the barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks, insufficient time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some solutions they explain to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where sinks are not around and placing them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can be a suitable way for proper hand hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also describe, Involve staff in trying several alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and involve employee health services in creating a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff. Alcohol based sanitizers that have lotion in them can be helpful for staff who have very sensitive skin (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Military Deployment Essay We wait. We Hope. We pray. Until you re home again. When you re home, we re more than a family. We are a nation... that is whole again. That is a very famous quote said by Oprah Winfrey about our military personnel and family members. Military deployments have many stages including pre deployment, deployment, post deployment, and the aftermath of the military. These will affect the military member from the time they are active duty, to being a veteran. The pre deployment is from the time the orders are assigned to the time the military member leaves for deployment. The deployment is from the time the member leaves to the time they return back to their duty station. The post deployment typically lasts about the three to six months after the deployment ends. The period of being a veteran is from the time the member resigns or retires from the military for the rest of their lives. The first phase of the deployment is the pre deployment. • 5. The History And Transitions Of Music The history and transitions of music has had many talented persons that have influenced music but none are so well known as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. All three of these great composers performed during the Classic period and it would act as the base of classic music for the next one hundred and fifty, to two hundred years. The names of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are so well known that people who have little to no knowledge of music will recognize their names. The urban communities of Austria and Germany would find the settings from 1750 1820 that would become known as the classical period. The Classic period had many developments such as the sonata, symphony and string quartet along with a growth of opera houses and concert halls were abundant during the classical period. The Passion and Oppression of the Scaffold A motif is a recurring subject, theme, idea, etc., especially in a literary, artistic,or musical work. A scaffold is an elevated platform on which a criminal is executed that was used in the olden days as a site of public shaming. It was, in short, the platform of the pillory...punishment to do. (Chapter 2). The scaffold scenes in the Scarlet Letter seem to be the most significant motifs in the novel. First off, the dominant symbol, scarlet letter A, and all of the main characters, Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, Pearl, and Roger Chillingworth, are present at each scaffold scene. The location of the scenes in the text also provides a relevance to the novel: the first scene is in the first third... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dimmesdale is so weak, dim, and fragile that he requests help from Hester to carry him up to the scaffold. Chillingworth is still a psychotic fiend, but he can no longer wish any harm upon Dimmesdale because his life has basically hit rock bottom, sick, dying, unforgiven sinner, and lier for years. Therefore, without any more purpose in life, Chillingworth ultimately ends up withering and dying. Background Of The Arabian Nights Background of The Arabian Nights The Islamic Golden Age Among several renown works of the Islamic Golden Age is The Thousand and One Nights, which was consolidated between the 10th and the 14th centuries, and which later became a source of inspiration for not only many writers, but also for the Arabian Theater. The Islamic Golden Age refers to the period when the Muslim world was ruled by various caliphates, which came to an end in 1258 due to the Mongol invasions and the sack of Baghdad. It is, in fact, a blend of Greek, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Persian and Arab sources although scholars agree that the frame story, of Shahrazad saving herself from execution by King Shahriyar by recounting a series of entertaining stories and using cliffhangers each night, is likely of Indian origin. The tales of The Thousand and One Nights are rooted in oral traditions, and these tales were further popularized by various professional storytellers who would recite them in coffeehouses, the main forums for interactions between people, all over the Middle East. These tales contain three major strains: Indo Persian stories that were later adapted into Arabic, stories composed in Baghdad, and stories composed in Egypt. It is said that the Arabian Nights actually originates from an old Persian book called Hazar Afsana, or A Thousand Legends, which was later translated into Arabic. The tales of Hazar Afsana were modified between the 10th and the 16th centuries, and they, in turn, gave us one of the most famous books in Classical Arabic Literature, The Thousand and One Nights. This unusual title was known in the 12th century, and it came to be not because there were a thousand and one stories, nor because Shahrazad continuously told stories for a thousand and one nights, but merely because a thousand and one is used to signify a large number close to infinity, and because in the Ancient East, time was counted in nights and not in days. Moreover, it is said that this title most likely originated from the Turkish expression bin bir which means a thousand and one, and is often used to indicate a large number or an unimaginable amount of ... Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery disease, which is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or becomes blocked, intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi vessel coronary artery disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a better method due to the greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those with a single vessel obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved using balloon angioplasty, which was first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS) By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS) were developed to overcome the limitations of balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal lattices that hold the vessel open, which prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. They are delivered using a catheter mounted balloon inserted either in the brachial or femoral artery, which is then threaded to the site of blockage in the coronary artery. The balloon is inflated, and the stent is released covering the stenosed lesion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the United States has the highest number of deaths, it is important to have gun control laws that restrict people from owning dangerous firearms like machine guns. Gun control laws should support both sides of the debate. Of course, both sides will not be completely happy with the laws created, but America should have a balance. In 2008, a poll was taken stating: Adult poll respondents views on the meaning of the Second Amendment; An individual s right to bear arms: Republican 51% and Democrats 41% (The History of the Right to Bear Arms). • 19. Epic Poetry By Homer And Catullus Essay From ancient Greek to Roman literature, styles and genres in writing changed drastically. The Greeks were adamant on showing their extensive knowledge of myth, often referencing the most obscure myths. The gods mentioned in their poems often had crucial roles necessary for developing the plot, or they were the reason the story began at all. The Romans however were very educated, and showed this in their works by referencing older Greek literature or authors instead of direct myths. Another drastic difference in the divergent genres, namely epics and lyrics, is the expression of love, which through Homer and Catullus, shows us how love can be expressed as erotic, familial, or as a love of place by the protagonists and secondary characters, despite whether it is the primary or secondary theme. In Greek literature a prominent author is Homer, whom we don t know if actually existed or if Homer is a pseudonym for a collective group of writers. Homer is popular for writing epic poetry, which follows the heroic journey of the protagonist through a lengthy narrative. In epics, the poet focuses on the main character s search for kleos, the only thing a proper hero requires. In the Iliad, while the search for kleos is a major theme, love is also portrayed in many different respects. The love shown between Hector and his wife Andromache is one very strong example of the theme of love. At this time, love was not something people strived to achieve. Marriages were often used to ... This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector, including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the market crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American populace dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came to a head two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement (Erman, 2013). While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the increased regulation that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part of this negative backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the financial system (Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash was any less successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from both an internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all industries are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly being done via computer instead. As I mentioned, CSR does not have one definition. There is huge amount of CSR definitions published by business world and economists. THE PYRAMID OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY According to Archie Caroll, who found CSR pyramid, there are 4 aspects of Corporate Social Responsibilities which is divided in Economic, Legal, Ethical and Philanthropic Responsibilities. Corporate Citizens are expected to be profitable, be abiding the laws, be ethical and be charitable to society. (Carrol, July Aug. 1991.) This pyramid reflects what the CSR is by defining the responsibilities of the corporations in four different stages. First level is Economic responsibilities of the corporations which refers the corporations main goal, making or being profitable. Second step Legal Responsibilities, this stage explains how the corporations act when they do business, obey the laws and follow the rules. Third part of the pyramid is about Ethical responsibilities of the corporations. This step reflects being ethical. On the other word, what the right and wrong is. In addition, Corporations should avoid unfair and non ethical actions in the society. Finally, top of the pyramid reflects being good corporate citizen. I think, it suggests corporations should follow the laws and rules, pay the taxes, do the right and ethical, and take care of its workers and environment. • 31. Essay on Kid Rock, Fuel, and Buckcherry Kid Rock, Fuel, and Buckcherry For my first critical essay, I have chosen to review my attendance and experience at a rock concert. On Thursday January 18, at the Scottenstein Center in Columbus, I attended the concert of the controversial Kid Rock. Other performers at the show included rock bands Fuel and Buckcherry. Although there were only three bands that preformed that night, I found another source of entertainment within the crowd of people; the wild antics of the die hard fans. In my essay I will try and attempt to describe as realistically as possible, my experience. Prior to the concert I had been somewhat familiar with all three bands music. I was excited to attend the show, but I didn t know what to expect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After about a twenty minute wait, the first band took the stage. The first band was my favorite of the three, Fuel. Fuel made a calm but cool appearance, and put on what I felt to be a great show. After they were done, I thought that the eighteen dollars I spent to buy a ticket was already well worth it. Fuel has many songs on the radio, so the fans sang along and seemed to have a good time. I also found myself getting extremely into their performance at times, and screaming out their lyrics in unison. After they exited the stage I heard a couple of nearby fans wishing they had played longer. Overall, their performance was outstanding. As we waited for the next band to take the stage, more people filtered into the arena. As more people arrived, I found the noise level to jump also. The space in front of the stage that I was occupying, seemed to get smaller and smaller as more people squeezed in. After another tedious wait, Buckcherry arrived. Their entrance was a little bit louder and more fans seemed to get into it this time. As they played, I realized their music to be very heavy and thrashing at times. One song almost gave me a headache. On the up side, I enjoyed one of their songs a lot. It is called All Lit Up . It gained great airplay on the radio a couple of years ago, and I actually have it in my collection at home. • 32. The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilizationrefers to the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands of lives and impacted individual in multiple ways. Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014). Eugenic Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014). These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the law was unconstitutional and there the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The landmark 1927 United States Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many eugenic sterilization programs across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General Assembly passed new sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). Bilingualism Paper Bilingualism Paper ENG/380 10 8 10 Simultaneous bilingualism describes a situation in which a child learns more than one language from birth, meaning they are spoken to in both languages on a regular basis. If this occurs throughout the final stages of language development, the child will be able to fluently speak and understand both languages; both languages are considered the child s first speaking language. On the other hand, sequential bilingualism occurs when a second language is not learned as a native language but taught as a foreign language instead (Rowe, B. M., amp; Levine, D. P., 2006). Overall, whether a child learns a language from birth and is spoken to in those languages on a regular basis like in simultaneous bilingualism, or if they learn a language foreign to them later in life as in sequential bilingualism, the fact that the human brain can process and communicate in so many ways is miraculous. You need to roll the ingredients into the flour tortillas and place them in the glass pan. Take a flour tortilla(I use Mission brand burrito size flour tortillas) and smear about a tablespoon full of the warm refried beans on it in a circular patter covering the middle of the tortilla. Then, add about a tablespoon of the browned hamburger to the top of the beans. Add a tablespoon of the cream sauce. Next, sprinkle some grated cheese on it. I like to go the easy route and buy my cheese already grated. I use Kraft brand graded cheese in a bag. I buy the two cup size bag, but you can add more or less cheese based on your preference. You will also need a sprinkle of the green onions and the diced tomatoes. While adding the sauce, cheese, onions, and tomatoes, keep in mind that you need to save some on the side for a topping, so sparingly use these items. For instance, every year the rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation.
