german economy 2004-2011
Assessment: Germany 2011 Germany from 2004 until 2011, showed a positive trend with the GDP per
capita. From $29,684.33 in 2004, Germany boosted their GDP per capita up to $39,187.01 in 2011,
which is approximately a 50% increase. This shows that Germany managed to put its economy in an
upward trend, although the Eurozone was struggling with its economic growth, particularly during
2009 and 2010. Similarly, GNI per capita of Germany in 2004 was $29,938.63, yet by 2011, the GNI
per capita was $39,943.53. This again shows a positive trend overall, which shows that Germany has
been growing gradually as years passed with its economy. One thing which differs GNI from GDP is
that GNI involves overseas investments and foreigners earns in ... Show more content on

Moreover, the fact that the government kept its stability of tax revenue even during 2009 and 2010
when Eurozone crisis occurred, shows that Germany s economic health was still relatively good even
when crisis occurred around Europe. We assume that the tax revenue in 2011 was about 37%, seeing
the overall trend of tax revenue. As mentioned before, this means that Germany has had a stable
economic health throughout the 7 years, considering the fact that the tax revenue has not gone up or
down by a great number. Current account balance of payments was positive value throughout the 7
years, showing that the amount of exports from Germany exceeded the amount of imports. That shows
that country is making profit overall, by exporting and importing with other countries, yet exporting
great amount, enough to keep the country earning profits. Moreover, the fact that the current account
balance of payments went up from 4.6% to 5.7% shows that the country managed to widen the
difference between the amount of exports and imports even more, to bring more profit into Germany.
Germany did a fine job in keeping the unemployment rate low. In fact, Germany managed to cut the
unemployment rate by almost a half, from 10.5% in 2004, to 5.9% in 2011. This means that there are
more jobs available in Germany now than in 2004. According to the circular flow of income, this
means that there is more money going around, prospering the

The Consequences And Effects Of Nurse Bullying And Solutions
Effects of Nurse Bullying and Solutions Nurse bullying is a problem within the nursing profession that
continues to be harmful. Nurse bullying is defined as a repeated, offensive, abusive, intimidating, or
insulting behavior, abuse of power, or unfair sanctions that make recipients upset and feel humiliated,
vulnerable or threatened, creating stress and undermining self confidence (Castronovo, Pullizzi,
Evans, 2016). Nurse bullying is not a new problem and impacts nurses, healthcare organizations, and
patients. There has been documented evidence of nurse bullying for the last 100 years and proposed
solutions. The consequences of nurse bullying are immense and effect the victim and the organization.
There have been efforts to address the problem, however bullying continues to be widespread in the
nursing profession.
Issue
Nurse bullying is an important issue in the nursing profession. Bullying contributes to unhealthy and
toxic environments, which in turn contribute to ineffective patient care, increased stress, and decreased
job satisfaction among healthcare providers (Bennett Sawatzky, 2013, p. 144) The personal effects
include anxiety, depression, fatigue, and headaches (Castronovo et al. 2016). Bennett and Sawatzy
(2013) explain that the professional consequences include staff turnover and loss of productivity.
According to Bennett et al. (2013), it is estimated that bullying may cost over $4 billion annually.
Nurses who experience bullying turn to other

Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Response
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost also shows the traveler making his own moral decisions. The
traveler values perseverance. At the fork in the road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark,
overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn t lose sight of what his goal
is, and doesn t even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more
challenging path, no matter how hard it is. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way
leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost The Road Not Taken) Frost says, the
character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh
friend, because he is known for making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the
traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he can, he still chooses
to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance
to come back, and pick between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road
that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. Persistence ensures we follow through with our
decisions. Being sure, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this poem, the character wants to make a choice, break free from societal norms, but many factors
are slowing him down. Though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice though the whole
house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. Mend my life! Each voice cried. But
you didn t stop. (Oliver The Journey) These few lines from The Journey show breaking free can be
difficult. Society will always be shouting their bad and negative comments, ignore them and be
independent. When we want to be different, and choose not to listen to societies comments, we can

Dysfunctional Leadership
Dysfunctional leadership suffocate others with coercive power and ego, are unpredictable, and often
lack self awareness about their dysfunction (Shuck, Rose, Bergman, 2015).It has an emphasis on
selfishness, as its primary focus is on the leader s goals and objectives contrasted with the needs of
employees and the greater social organization. The impacts of dysfunctional leadership are felt in the
outcomes of the organization that undermines the quality of life for individuals who are could either
be internal or external to the organization and undermine their fundamental objectives. Undesirable
organizational consequences are the result of a dysfunctional leader behavior and vulnerable followers
working together in an enabling environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several studies suggest that followers require security, safety, predictability, and group membership in
an unstable world. Certain followers gain from dysfunctional activities making contributions to the
toxic foresight of the leader. Needs for identity, social order, coordination of collective activity, and
cohesion exists at the team level. An expected drive to for individuals to conform to group norms,
impersonate people of high status, and submit to figures of authority is also present. As such, it is
important to differentiate the diverse varieties of vulnerable populations. Some followers lack well
defined self concept and those who share in values of the leader, bystanders who let bad leadership to
take place, and acolytes who are the true believers who subscribe to the destruction. Collectively, there
is a creation of two groups of followers which includes the colluders and the conformers (Manning
Curtis, 2015). Colluders actively take part in the agenda of the dysfunctional leader whereas
conformers obey with the dysfunctional leader due to fear. Both categories of followers are driven by
selfishness though have varying concerns. While colluders pursue personal advancement through
involvement with a dysfunctional leader, including promotion and prevention inspiration, conformers
seek to reduce the outcomes of not going along. The foundation of conformers susceptibility is on
negative self assessments, unmet basic needs, and emotional immaturity. Conversely, colluders are
selfish, ambitious and share the worldviews of the dysfunctional

DISCUSSION
The primary aim of this study was to observe the force characteristics occurring during the SL under
different attentional focus conditions. Data was collected in a controlled laboratory setting where
conditions were counter balanced with participants. It was hypothesized that lifters would have a
larger propulsive impulse and max rate of force production in an external AF environment. The null
hypotheses were accepted due to no significant differences in force characteristics during the SL from
attentional focus cues. In order for optimal force generation to occur lifters must complete a series of
movements to manipulate the bar overhead to successfully complete the SL.

The current study used symmetry index as an indicator of coordination but no differences were found
between the conditions. Another measure of coordination has been seen in research using
electromyography (EMG) and it has been shown that external AF cues lead to efficient muscular
contraction and better motor control performance. For example, Zachery et al. had participants
shooting free throw tasks under both internal and external AF conditions. EMG activity was measured
from the biceps and triceps of the shooting arm. Their results demonstrated that with external focus
shots were more accurate and EMG activity was lower with biceps and triceps19. In another study,
Wulf et al. had participants complete the vertical jump and reach task and measured their jump height
and EMG activity of lower limb musculature. Their findings showed participants jumped higher and
had EMG activity generally lower when focusing attention externally compared to focusing attention
internally20. Lastly, Marchant et al. had participants complete isokinetic elbow flexion contractions
using a Biodex. Authors reported a net joint torque at the elbow was larger and the EMG activity of
the bicep brachii was decreased under external AF conditions 21. None of the studies above measured
force production but claim enhanced neuromuscular control allowed for greater force generation.
Therefore, when directing attention externally during max force generation tasks, muscle coordination
patterns are optimized producing more efficient and effective

DNA: Interactions between Proteins
Deoxyribonucleic Acid is a molecule that contains the genetic makeup of almost all living organisms.
While Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA, has been successfully mapped out, many of its interactions
with certain proteins and enzymes have not been fully revealed within the atomic level.
The history and mysteries of DNA continue to fascinate biologists and chemists alike. However, we
must question, who was the first to discover DNA, and what scientists have done to further enhance
our understanding of it? In short, DNA was first isolated by physician Friedrich Miescher in 1869; in
1937, William Astbury became the first person to produce an x ray diffraction pattern of the DNA
molecule. Sixteen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, adenine may only bind with thymine with two hydrogen bonds, and guanine may only
bind with cytosine with three hydrogen bonds. In broader perspective, purines may only bond with
pyrimidines. Adenine and guanines are the purines, due to their double ring molecular structure, while
thymine and cytosine are the pyrimidines due to there single ring structure. In addition the strands of
DNA are connected together between base pairs, through Hydrogen bonding. While each base pair
may only bind with its complimentary base pair, it is the sequence of the base pairs that creates such
genetic diversity amongst living organisms around the world. As scientists further investigate the
atomic structure and function of DNA, DNA replication is also being further examined. During DNA
replication, multiple enzymes, such as DNA Ligase, DNA Helicase, and DNA polymerase assist in
unwinding the DNA double strand into single stranded DNA (essentially an unwinding of the DNA in
which the hydrogen bonds are broken separating the two strands) which would latter be used as a
template for the creation of a new single DNA strand. DNA is thus widely known as the genetic
material for almost all living organisms. Although DNA replication is in general understood, its
atomic structure and interactions (between DNA and its proteins and enzymes) are not. Hence, we
must begin to

Art And The Spectacle In Swamplandia
The Contract of Meaning: Art and the Spectacle in Karen Russell s Swamplandia!
Karen Russell s Swamplandia! exhibits the incomplete methodology of Formalism and New Criticism,
requiring an analysis of literature as the interaction between author and reader. By demanding a
combination of authorial intent and the comprehension of the reader, Russell calls for the elimination
of the spectacular, and instead, for seeking the sublime. Swamplandia! contends that only through the
integration of many distinct perspectives can one find reality, as fantasy derives from designating a
singular objective truth.
Swamplandia! claims that language acts as a contract of meaning between speaker and listener, as
opposed to a statement with intrinsic meaning as viewed in Formalism, in order to allow the reader

Disadvantages Of Collective Bargaining
Collective Bargaining and Dispute Settlement System The expression collective bargaining , was
coined by Sydney and Beatrice. This was widely accepted and used in the United States of America
for settling industrial disputes. International Labour Organisation (ILO) through various conventions,
recommendation and other instruments recognizes the right of collective bargaining as a fundamental
right throughout the private and public sectors . Further one principle adopted by ILO is that collective
bargaining is a right of employer and their organisations, on one hand and organisations of workers,
on other hand (first level trade unions, federations and confederations); only in the absence of these
latter organisations, may representatives of the workers concerned conclude collective agreements.
The meaning of the expression collective bargaining has been a subject matter of controversy and it is
defined in variety of ways. However the term Collective bargaining has been defined by the Supreme
Court of India in the case Karnal Leather Karmachari Sangathan v. Liberty Footwear Co. : The
technique by which dispute as to conditions of employment is resolved amicably by agreement rather
than coercion . The conflict here is between the management and the employee and is inherent in an

Descartes Vs Newton
Sir Isaac Newton, Rene Descartes, and Galileo are three very important people who have carved out
many important milestones in scientific, mathematical, and philosophical history. Sir Isaac Newton
was a physicist and mathematician who played a huge role in the scientific revolution. Rene Descartes
was a both a philosopher and mathematician who later become deemed as the father of modern
philosophy. Lastly, Galileo Galilei was an engineer, physicist, mathematician, and philosopher who
also played a major role in the scientific revolution. Although these three men were monumental in
history, all three had similarities and differences within their works and inventions that they created
over time.
One similarity that all three men possessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Galileo established the principle of inertia which coincides with Newton s first law that states, that an
object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced
force. The difference, however, for the two men is that during the time that Galileo was around he was
persecuted and thrown in jail for his beliefs while Newton would be applauded for his findings.
Since Galileo was so much earlier than Descartes, and Newton his work was ridiculed more than the
other two. This was a difference from Descartes and Newton that is significant because even though
his finding were important people never fully grasped the realm of his work because he was unable to
speak up about findings. He was even thrown in jail and on house arrest because people did not agree
and did not want to hear what he had to say. Descartes and Newton were never condemned to the
extent that Galileo was.
Even though Descartes and Newton were both scholarly and knowledgeable in the field of science
they had different ideas on some things. During Newton s studies he placed alot of importance on
philosophical principles that would be the basis of experimental science, while Descartes in his
principles of philosophy determined that reason, rather than experimentation , would be the way to

My Education
I am grateful to my parents because they made me understand that my education is the most valuable
thing I could ever have. My parents sacrificed many things for us to have a better life, and I won t let
them down. I was born in Zinapecuaro Michoacan, when I was seven years old I came to Salinas
California with all my family. I remembered when I was a child my dad used to come every year to
work on the fields. Then, he would go back each year for a short period of time, and I was waiting for
him with happiness. As I grew up I realized that my parents wanted me to have a better life which they
never had. Because my parents worked all day to bring food to our table, my brothers and I didn t
spent too much time with them like we would like. My childhood was not easy at all, but I had the
most amazing parents. Also, having their love made the happiest girl in world because that was
enough for me.
When I was a little girl I dreamed to be a doctor, but I changed my mind. Since high school I wanted
to join the military, but I could not because of my weight. So, in my second semester during college; I
decided to join the army to have a professional career and at the same time took a break for college.
For all my experiences that have happened to me; I can only say that joining the Army was the best
decision I have taken. In addition, I learned to live by the army values which are loyalty, duty, respect,
selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values helped me

Censorshipures And Control Government In George Orwell s...
Imagine a world where you have no privacy, no secrets, and no voice. Every step you take, every
direction you change is watched closely. Every word that comes out of your mouth is heard. You think
before you talk even in front of your own children, because they too are one of them. They control
everything you see, think, and do. They are Big Brother. In George Orwell s novel 1984 , a man
named Winston Smith lives in a world of absolute totalitarian political regime. Although the
totalitarian state is taken to the extremes in Orwell s novel, the parallel between the lives of the
citizens in the novel and citizens living in a world of censorship in China is evident. The governments
in both situations manipulate and control the people. Orwell s novel provides an example of the
outcomes of an absolute power government and how dangerous the situation truly is. Additionally, the
novel shows us how the government in China uses their advances in technology to spy on the people,
while making sure that everyone is aware that they are constantly being watched. Although the
government seems to be acting as if they are doing their part in the novel, the residents of the Air Strip
are having their rights controlled, manipulated, and violated by these powerful forces. Once the
government has absolute power, they will edit any media that their people read, hear, or see. Not only
do they control the people s minds, and thoughts, but their bodies as well. In 1984, the government

The health effects following exposure to blast impact are a growing concern in the United States,

to many unseen developments not only psychologically but also physically in the service men and
women returning home. Technological changes in current years have allowed for the development of
various types of lethal weaponry, such as with high intensity explosive devices. Improvised explosive

purpose of the study was to see if participants with blast exposure performed worse on these tests than
participants without blast exposure, especially with hearing in complex auditory environments and
speech in noise types of measures (Gallun et al., 2012). The blast exposure group included veterans
seeking treatment at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center post Iraq War. They identified as having
exposure to a high intensity blast at least once within the past year. They were excluded from the study
if they had any TBI higher than the moderate diagnosis, and were also excluded if they had a hearing

Analysis Of Fasting Feasting By Anita Desai
In the passage from Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai, Arun, a foreign exchange student from India,
much to his disdain, joins the mother and daughter of his host family, Melanie and Mrs. Patton, on a
day to the beach. The complicated and warped experience that Arun faces on the day trip is
characterized by the literary tools used by Anita Desai, such as diction, syntax, and rich descriptions.
From the opening paragraph of the passage, Arun s uneager disposition is shown, when he is displayed
trying to avoid of the day s plans. However, the extent of Arun s disapproval of the plans is shown
through words like despondent, to show the dispirited disposition of the boy, and wildly when
describing his formulation of excuses. Furthermore, the relationship between Arun and his host family
is presented in this introductory scene, and their eagerness of getting the boy out of the house is shown
through Desai s choice to describe Melanie s method of getting him involved as staring challengingly.
This emphasizes her determination to get the exchange student out of the house by using a fairly
aggressive term, creating the sense of a showdown for the reader.
Desai continues the description of the standoff with her use of syntax in the next paragraph. The
author avoids using quotation marks during dialogue, as shown when Mrs. Patton says, No, she will
not. Absolutely not. This creates a more intriguing section to read, but also creating a strong sense of
insistence. With the

How Does Legislation Affect The Welfare Of Children
The welfare of children is paramount for anybody working closely with children. To ensure the safety
and wellbeing of children certain acts and legislations were brought in for people working closely with
children. The Children Act 1989 brought in changes to legislation in England and Wales surrounding
child welfare, the Act identified the responsibility of parents and people who work with children to
ensure the childâ€TMs safety. The Acts main aims were to encourage partnership between statutory
authorities and parents, redefine the concept of parental responsibility, restructure the framework of
the courts in particular with regard to family proceedings and finally to achieve a balance between
protecting children and the rights of parents to challenge state intervention. This Act is an important
piece of legislation as it has such a strong focus on safeguarding children and the duties that local
authorities have to ensure this. The Every Child Matters Guidelines came into being after the tragic
death of Victoria Climbie, the main points that emerged from the case and which formed the Every

A comparison of poems by Wilfred Owen Dulce et Decorum Est and Anthem for Doomed Youth
Wilfred Owen fought in the ww1. He enrolled into army at an early age which was probably
influenced by the government s enticing and false advertising. However in the trenches Owen soon
discovered the reality of war and how horrific the war was. At first he started to take notes about the

In the final stanza Owen writes as if the reader could see the bodies of the deceased soldiers, they
would not stop sending young men to war, nor would they tell their children the old lie with such high
zest . In the poem Owen uses the first and the second persons; he uses the first and second persons to
make the reader think that what he is talking about in the poem he witnessed. He uses for example we
, I and me . Owen uses the second person when he wants to make us reflect on the cruel reality of was.
We can see the third person when Owen is describing how the soldiers are going to fight.
Dulce et Decorum Est Owen uses a lot of powerful imagery in this poem. He conveys his thoughts
through the use of descriptive language techniques such as: metaphors, alliteration and similes.
Metaphors are used to. Alliteration makes the reader remember certain phrases, Knock kneed , men
marched and GAS! GAS! these are all examples of alliteration and Owen is trying to hammer in the

Anthem for Doomed Youth is one of Wilfred Owens best known poems. It s about the fallen soldiers

could be used to relate to soldiers today.

A Report On The Police Service
I spent my third and fourth session of my practicum with Constable Dwayne Harrison and Constable
Paul Davis. Both members of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service (LRPS) are in the patrol unit;
responding to calls and investigating. Patrol work is broad, responding to calls that mostly consist of
theft, mischief, and domestic. It defines the police as a public service and making the public happy to
have someone to solve their problems.
The first stop Harrison and I made was in the industrial area, in response to a reported theft earlier that
morning. After we met the owner, we went out to the back and into a freight trailer where two spools
of copper wire were stolen. The investigation involved mostly questioning the owner about the ...

After reaching some dead ends while investigating some warrants, Harrison and I responded to a theft
at a liquor store on the North side of town. Again, we investigated by asking questions and reviewing
surveillance footage, but we took two statements this time. We took a statement from a worker at the
store and another from a witness who saw the men described by the worker. Both of the witnesses
believed that the group of aboriginal men that were originally in the store were in league with the
other one that stole the bottle of rum. Harrison explained to me that he had no reason to believe that
they were working together and the witnesses prejudice was the only commonality (This was implied,
he did not actually say it). Forms of prejudice or discrimination are a part of dealing with public or
investigating. In the school yard nearby, Harrison asked a group about the one man who stole the
bottle but did not get any useful information. So, Harrison wrote up a report outlining what he did and
that concluded it. During the time he wrote up his report, Harrison explained to me that it probably
cost the public more in taxes for him to show up and ask a few questions than doing nothing about it. I
knew policing is a public service, but sometimes the cost outweighs the means; relying on the
principles of, justice .
We responded to a stalking/domestic violence call later that afternoon. Harrison

The Aztecs were a powerful civilization in early Northern America. With harsh punishments and a
strong government, they kept the civilization going for a long time. The capital of their empire was
Tenochtitlan. It was located on Lake Texcoco. The Aztecs had a very interesting religion, A strict
government, very lively citizens, and language.
Aztec religion was a very interesting part of their culture. The Aztec worshipped many gods. Such as
Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli. They sacrificed people to keep their gods
happy. One time they sacrificed a princess to one of their gods as his spouse. The king later came, and,
horrifically, found the priest of Aztec wearing the skin of his daughter. The king had ordered that the
Aztecs be destroyed. Chicomecoatl was the god who produced food. They had two gods of war,
Huitzilopochtli, and Coatlicue. The Aztecs also believed that when they died, in the afterlife they
would be given a job to help the gods. (Aztec Religion. aztecs.mrdonn.org)

Examination Of The Bones And The Data Gathered
Introduction: Last week, a couple running in the park came across some bones. They went to the
police to report what they ve found. The bones were then sent in to be observed and tested to identify
who the bones belonged to. Based upon the analysis of the bones and the data gathered, the conclusion
is that the bones belonged an Asian female over 30 years of age that was between the height of 4 8 and
5 3 .
Summary of Findings: sex: Through examination of the bones, the individual is identified as a female.
The main bones used to determine sex are the pelvis and the skull. The pelvis is a crucial indicator of
gender, but because the individual is small in stature, the pelvis may not be as accurate. Nevertheless,

: The height of the individual was determined to be between 4 8 and 5 3 based on the measurements
taken of the humerus bone. The humerus bone had the most important information to investigate the
approximate height of the individual based on the bone s maximum length. It was found that the
maximum length of the humerus was 270 mm, or 27.0 cm. After finding the maximum length of the
humerus, the number was plugged into the regression formula for the correct sex and ethnicity (in this
case it was female and Asian) to provide with the maximum and minimum heights. Normally, the
femur is predominantly used to find the height of an individual but there was no available regression
formula for a female of the Asian ethnicity.

Leadership And Culture Of The Field Of Organizational...
Leadership and Culture
Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership, powerful
leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization (Yukl,
2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically neutral ground for theories
of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit assumptions about proper forms of
influence.
The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining by
the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is
behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership, and
(3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership
Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges
(2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus on
serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective leadership
with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first developing a
character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. As stated by Yukl
(2006, p.357), servant leadership theory explains why the primary concern of leaders should be to
nurture, develop, and protect followers. The direct link to servant leadership lies within the biblical

Psychoanalytic Theory In The Film Pan s Labyrinth
The founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, developed a wide variety of psychoanalytic theories
that are often used to examine a diverse body of literary and artistic works. For example, the Family
Romance theory. It is an abnormal state of mind a child enters during the pre pubescent stage. It
consists of the child fantasizing that they are not the biological son or daughter of their given parent.
This phenomenon commonly occurs when a parent fails to reciprocate affection to their child;
consequently, causing them to seek retaliation through imaginary means. In addition, the Family
Romance theory is often used to explain a child s transition into adulthood. Acclaimed Mexican
filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, featured Sigmund Freud s psychological concept within the family ...

child, and the magical realm she comes across in the woods. In order to showcase the importance of
rejecting the authority of a parent to gain independence, Guillermo del Toro presents various elements
of the Family Romance theory throughout the course of the film. For instance, it is Ophelia s lack of a
father figure, a rivalry between her and her unborn brother, and withering relationship with her mother
that ultimately serve as the catalyst for her fantasies as well as her development into the adult
community.

The Political Career of Daniel Webster Essay
The Political Career of Daniel Webster
Daniel Webster contributed a large potion of the Civil War. To begin, he was born in Salisbury, New
Hampshire on January 18, 1782. His parents were farmers so many people didn t know what to expect
of him. Even though his parents were farmers, he still graduated from Dartmouth College in 1801.
After he learned to be a lawyer, Daniel Webster opened a legal practice in
Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1807.
Webster quickly became an experienced and very good lawyer and a
Federalist party leader. In 1812, Webster was elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives because of his opposition to the War of 1812, which had crippled New England s
shipping trade. After two more terms in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Replying to South Carolina s Robert
Hayne in a Senate debate in 1830, Webster triumphantly defended the Union states by a very powerful
but short speech. He said, Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable, made him a
favorite and made him well known among many people worldwide.
Webster and President Andrew Jackson joined forces in 1833 to try to change South Carolina s attempt
to nullify the tariff, but Webster and the
Whigs battled him on other issues including his attack on the National Bank. Webster ran for the
presidency in the election of 1836 as one of the three
Whig candidates, but he mostly only Massachusetts voted for him so he lost badly because no one else
voted for him. For the rest of his career he tried very hard to get to the presidency and ran in many
elections hoping to get his shot at the office, but it never happened and he failed every time. In 1841,
Daniel Webster came close to his idea of President but was only named secretary. President William
Henry Harrison appointed him to this position. When he got killed in April 1841, John Tyler was
brought to the presidency. In September 1841, all the Whigs resigned from the cabinet except Webster.
He remained to settle an argument with Great Britain having to do with the Maine Canada boundary
and he wanted to finish the
Webster Ashburn Treaty, which he finally did in 1842. The Whigs finally pressured Webster

The Viological Structure Of G-Protein Coupled Receptorss
INTRODUCTION
G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are highly specialised proteins responsible for the transmission
of signals across the cell membrane. They sense signaling molecules such as hormones and
neurotransmitters, and thus play a very important physiological role in the human body
(Venkatakrishnan et al., 2017). GPCRs are also known as metabotropic receptors, which indicates that
they are involved in intracellular signaling.
Scientific Background
The results from numerous research were combined to create a model for the structure of GPCRs and
the heterotrimeric G protein, which aided our understanding of the molecular nature of GPCRs and its
functions. GPCRs are proteins that span the plasma membrane 7 times, hence the name 7 ... Show

De Lean and Lefkowitz carried out competitive binding experiments to investigate the interaction
between extracellular ligands (both antagonist and agonist), GPCRs and X a membrane component.
Method
The antagonist [3H]DHA and the agonist [3H]HBI were incubated with freshly prepared plasma
membranes and appropriate unlabeled ligand for 60 minutes at 25oC. The reaction was stopped by the
addition of ice cold buffer, and filtered on glass fibre filters. After additional washings with 5ml of
buffer, the concentration of radioactive ligands (antagonists / agonists) trapped on the filters was
measured. Agonist binding is reversible, thus the regular incubation period (60 minutes) was doubled
to ensure that the conditions were compatible with true equilibrium. The binding of [3H]DHA and
[3H]HBI to the frog erythrocyte β Adrenergic receptor were plotted in saturation and competition
curves.
Results
It had been observed that the binding competition curve for antagonists are steep, and express low
affinity, On the other hand, binding competition curves for agonists are shallow, showing 2 distinct
binding states: high and low affinity state. They discovered that the addition of guanine receptors
could convert the high affinity state to low. This observation was also described in numerous other
GPCRs, such as

medium dose cohort were given 30 to 50 injections. Two patients in the high dose cohort were given a
total of 80 to 90 shots in the vastus lateralis muscles, deltoid, and the soleus. Bethesda assays were
performed on equal volumes of test plasma and normal pooled plasma, which determined the residual

Essay on Technology System Options in Restaurants
When opening a new restaurant it is important to consider technology options that will offer
competitive advantage, enhance profit, and work efficiently for the establishment. Three systems that
are generally purchased for restaurant use are inventory systems, point of sales systems, and
reservation management systems. All of these systems should be researched and compared on their
functionality so the most suitable technologies can be implemented into the daily activities of the

A point of sales system is another great addition to nay growing business. The POS has many
functions. The POS will contain a register for purchases, have the ability to track reports and menu
maintenance, improve service speed, and enhance customer service. To increase service speed, the
POS efficiently makes order entries that are then transferred to the kitchen. This results in fewer
mistakes and the ability to track ticket and wait times. The system also has the function of splitting
checks and makes card processing simple. This ensures more seat turnover and shorter wait times for
the customers. In return this has the potential to increase revenue at every service. POS can create
loyalty programs that ensure repeat customers and generate more sales of gift cards. POS provides
operational control that analyzes detailed reports to drill down on sales, server and restaurant
performance (NCR 2013). A software like ALOHA also provides a training interface that allows new
employees to learn the system quickly. This reduces the cost a restaurant would ultimately have to pay
on training new employees. The ALOHA system is very up to date with new technology trends,
providing mobile and digital signage and cloud based solutions and social technologies. The variety of
functions in a point of sales system makes it very attractive to new restaurant owners. The cost of a

HIPAA The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), was initially
established as a way to standardize the electronic dissemination of health information across the field
of health care. The Act was initially introduced as the Kennedy Kassebaum Bill and had two primary
objectives: Portability and Accountability. The portability portion was intended to ensure individuals
would be able to maintain insurance between jobs. This portion was implemented very successfully.
The second portion of the act is accountability, which was designed to ensure the security and
confidentiality of administrative information and financial data as it relates to patient health
information.
The Kennedy Kassebaum Bill was renamed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of
1996 (HIPAA), andenacted in August of 1996. Part of the HIPAA legislation requires the DHHS to

Manzana Insurance Company

Manzana Insurance Fruitvale Branch (Abridged)

Executive Summary
Fruitvale s core management problem is the low performance due to an unacceptable long turnaround
times (TAT). Especially because of the late Renewals many of Fruitvale´s customers are turning to its
major competitor Golden Gate. The operating performance needs to be improved by eradicating the
bottleneck in Underwriting. This will be achieved by restructuring and simplifying the process.
Through our solution we are going to achieve a new TAT of 0,518 days (3:53 hours). Thereby we hope
to recapture the lost market share and satisfy our customers. In average all daily incoming insurance
requests will be processed in an extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An UT will therefore underwrite two requests. After underwriting both each team member will rate
one of the two requests. It is important that the DCs distribute similar requests in terms of rating time
to one certain UT. Due to the fusion of step two and three 25% (time savings in writing and getting
into the case) or more of rating time will be saved. In order to stay within a save margin we reduced
the weighted average rating time by 25% and added this to the weighted average time of underwriting.
We divided the weighting time of the first request lying on the desk while the second is being
processed on both requests. In average 12 requests will be processed by the UTs every 109.6 minutes.
Every 54.8 minutes (109.6/2 min) 6 requests can be processed by the policy writing department.
Hence the average service rate in step two and three is the same. This would also increase productivity
by decreasing queuing time.
Including all these changes our calculations lead to a TAT of 3:53 hours (see Apendix)
We will not set priorities on certain products (RUNs, RERUNs, RAPs, RAINs). We will rather
implement FIFO for all products, independent of the profit generated. In order to motivate the
employees to do so Salary/Plus can set incentives by rewarding an increase of the weighted average
time needed to process a request. This is also a very fair solution with regard to the clients.

  • 2. german economy 2004-2011 Assessment: Germany 2011 Germany from 2004 until 2011, showed a positive trend with the GDP per capita. From $29,684.33 in 2004, Germany boosted their GDP per capita up to $39,187.01 in 2011, which is approximately a 50% increase. This shows that Germany managed to put its economy in an upward trend, although the Eurozone was struggling with its economic growth, particularly during 2009 and 2010. Similarly, GNI per capita of Germany in 2004 was $29,938.63, yet by 2011, the GNI per capita was $39,943.53. This again shows a positive trend overall, which shows that Germany has been growing gradually as years passed with its economy. One thing which differs GNI from GDP is that GNI involves overseas investments and foreigners earns in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the fact that the government kept its stability of tax revenue even during 2009 and 2010 when Eurozone crisis occurred, shows that Germany s economic health was still relatively good even when crisis occurred around Europe. We assume that the tax revenue in 2011 was about 37%, seeing the overall trend of tax revenue. As mentioned before, this means that Germany has had a stable economic health throughout the 7 years, considering the fact that the tax revenue has not gone up or down by a great number. Current account balance of payments was positive value throughout the 7 years, showing that the amount of exports from Germany exceeded the amount of imports. That shows that country is making profit overall, by exporting and importing with other countries, yet exporting great amount, enough to keep the country earning profits. Moreover, the fact that the current account balance of payments went up from 4.6% to 5.7% shows that the country managed to widen the difference between the amount of exports and imports even more, to bring more profit into Germany. Germany did a fine job in keeping the unemployment rate low. In fact, Germany managed to cut the unemployment rate by almost a half, from 10.5% in 2004, to 5.9% in 2011. This means that there are more jobs available in Germany now than in 2004. According to the circular flow of income, this means that there is more money going around, prospering the ... • 3. The Consequences And Effects Of Nurse Bullying And Solutions Effects of Nurse Bullying and Solutions Nurse bullying is a problem within the nursing profession that continues to be harmful. Nurse bullying is defined as a repeated, offensive, abusive, intimidating, or insulting behavior, abuse of power, or unfair sanctions that make recipients upset and feel humiliated, vulnerable or threatened, creating stress and undermining self confidence (Castronovo, Pullizzi, Evans, 2016). Nurse bullying is not a new problem and impacts nurses, healthcare organizations, and patients. There has been documented evidence of nurse bullying for the last 100 years and proposed solutions. The consequences of nurse bullying are immense and effect the victim and the organization. There have been efforts to address the problem, however bullying continues to be widespread in the nursing profession. Issue Nurse bullying is an important issue in the nursing profession. Bullying contributes to unhealthy and toxic environments, which in turn contribute to ineffective patient care, increased stress, and decreased job satisfaction among healthcare providers (Bennett Sawatzky, 2013, p. 144) The personal effects include anxiety, depression, fatigue, and headaches (Castronovo et al. 2016). Bennett and Sawatzy (2013) explain that the professional consequences include staff turnover and loss of productivity. According to Bennett et al. (2013), it is estimated that bullying may cost over $4 billion annually. Nurses who experience bullying turn to other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Response The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost also shows the traveler making his own moral decisions. The traveler values perseverance. At the fork in the road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark, overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn t lose sight of what his goal is, and doesn t even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more challenging path, no matter how hard it is. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost The Road Not Taken) Frost says, the character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh friend, because he is known for making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he can, he still chooses to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance to come back, and pick between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. Persistence ensures we follow through with our decisions. Being sure, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. Mend my life! Each voice cried. But you didn t stop. • 5. Dysfunctional Leadership Dysfunctional leadership suffocate others with coercive power and ego, are unpredictable, and often lack self awareness about their dysfunction (Shuck, Rose, Bergman, 2015).It has an emphasis on selfishness, as its primary focus is on the leader s goals and objectives contrasted with the needs of employees and the greater social organization. The impacts of dysfunctional leadership are felt in the outcomes of the organization that undermines the quality of life for individuals who are could either be internal or external to the organization and undermine their fundamental objectives. Undesirable organizational consequences are the result of a dysfunctional leader behavior and vulnerable followers working together in an enabling environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several studies suggest that followers require security, safety, predictability, and group membership in an unstable world. Certain followers gain from dysfunctional activities making contributions to the toxic foresight of the leader. Needs for identity, social order, coordination of collective activity, and cohesion exists at the team level. An expected drive to for individuals to conform to group norms, impersonate people of high status, and submit to figures of authority is also present. As such, it is important to differentiate the diverse varieties of vulnerable populations. Some followers lack well defined self concept and those who share in values of the leader, bystanders who let bad leadership to take place, and acolytes who are the true believers who subscribe to the destruction. Collectively, there is a creation of two groups of followers which includes the colluders and the conformers (Manning Curtis, 2015). Colluders actively take part in the agenda of the dysfunctional leader whereas conformers obey with the dysfunctional leader due to fear. Both categories of followers are driven by selfishness though have varying concerns. While colluders pursue personal advancement through involvement with a dysfunctional leader, including promotion and prevention inspiration, conformers seek to reduce the outcomes of not going along. The foundation of conformers susceptibility is on negative self assessments, unmet basic needs, and emotional immaturity. • 6. Emg Experiment DISCUSSION The primary aim of this study was to observe the force characteristics occurring during the SL under different attentional focus conditions. Data was collected in a controlled laboratory setting where conditions were counter balanced with participants. It was hypothesized that lifters would have a larger propulsive impulse and max rate of force production in an external AF environment. The null hypotheses were accepted due to no significant differences in force characteristics during the SL from attentional focus cues. In order for optimal force generation to occur lifters must complete a series of movements to manipulate the bar overhead to successfully complete the SL. Snatch Lift force characteristic values were lower compared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current study used symmetry index as an indicator of coordination but no differences were found between the conditions. Another measure of coordination has been seen in research using electromyography (EMG) and it has been shown that external AF cues lead to efficient muscular contraction and better motor control performance. For example, Zachery et al. had participants shooting free throw tasks under both internal and external AF conditions. EMG activity was measured from the biceps and triceps of the shooting arm. Their results demonstrated that with external focus shots were more accurate and EMG activity was lower with biceps and triceps19. In another study, Wulf et al. had participants complete the vertical jump and reach task and measured their jump height and EMG activity of lower limb musculature. Their findings showed participants jumped higher and had EMG activity generally lower when focusing attention externally compared to focusing attention internally20. Lastly, Marchant et al. had participants complete isokinetic elbow flexion contractions using a Biodex. Authors reported a net joint torque at the elbow was larger and the EMG activity of the bicep brachii was decreased under external AF conditions 21. None of the studies above measured force production but claim enhanced neuromuscular control allowed for greater force generation. Therefore, when directing attention externally during max force generation tasks, muscle coordination patterns are optimized producing more efficient and effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Dna Reaction Essay DNA: Interactions between Proteins Deoxyribonucleic Acid is a molecule that contains the genetic makeup of almost all living organisms. While Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA, has been successfully mapped out, many of its interactions with certain proteins and enzymes have not been fully revealed within the atomic level. The history and mysteries of DNA continue to fascinate biologists and chemists alike. However, we must question, who was the first to discover DNA, and what scientists have done to further enhance our understanding of it? In short, DNA was first isolated by physician Friedrich Miescher in 1869; in 1937, William Astbury became the first person to produce an x ray diffraction pattern of the DNA molecule. Sixteen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, adenine may only bind with thymine with two hydrogen bonds, and guanine may only bind with cytosine with three hydrogen bonds. In broader perspective, purines may only bond with pyrimidines. Adenine and guanines are the purines, due to their double ring molecular structure, while thymine and cytosine are the pyrimidines due to there single ring structure. In addition the strands of DNA are connected together between base pairs, through Hydrogen bonding. While each base pair may only bind with its complimentary base pair, it is the sequence of the base pairs that creates such genetic diversity amongst living organisms around the world. As scientists further investigate the atomic structure and function of DNA, DNA replication is also being further examined. During DNA replication, multiple enzymes, such as DNA Ligase, DNA Helicase, and DNA polymerase assist in unwinding the DNA double strand into single stranded DNA (essentially an unwinding of the DNA in which the hydrogen bonds are broken separating the two strands) which would latter be used as a template for the creation of a new single DNA strand. DNA is thus widely known as the genetic material for almost all living organisms. Although DNA replication is in general understood, its atomic structure and interactions (between DNA and its proteins and enzymes) are not. Hence, we must begin to ... Karen Russell s Swamplandia! exhibits the incomplete methodology of Formalism and New Criticism, requiring an analysis of literature as the interaction between author and reader. By demanding a combination of authorial intent and the comprehension of the reader, Russell calls for the elimination of the spectacular, and instead, for seeking the sublime. Swamplandia! contends that only through the integration of many distinct perspectives can one find reality, as fantasy derives from designating a singular objective truth. Swamplandia! claims that language acts as a contract of meaning between speaker and listener, as opposed to a statement with intrinsic meaning as viewed in Formalism, in order to allow the reader greater ... • 10. Disadvantages Of Collective Bargaining Collective Bargaining and Dispute Settlement System The expression collective bargaining , was coined by Sydney and Beatrice. This was widely accepted and used in the United States of America for settling industrial disputes. International Labour Organisation (ILO) through various conventions, recommendation and other instruments recognizes the right of collective bargaining as a fundamental right throughout the private and public sectors . Further one principle adopted by ILO is that collective bargaining is a right of employer and their organisations, on one hand and organisations of workers, on other hand (first level trade unions, federations and confederations); only in the absence of these latter organisations, may representatives of the workers concerned conclude collective agreements. The meaning of the expression collective bargaining has been a subject matter of controversy and it is defined in variety of ways. However the term Collective bargaining has been defined by the Supreme Court of India in the case Karnal Leather Karmachari Sangathan v. Descartes Vs Newton Sir Isaac Newton, Rene Descartes, and Galileo are three very important people who have carved out many important milestones in scientific, mathematical, and philosophical history. Sir Isaac Newton was a physicist and mathematician who played a huge role in the scientific revolution. Rene Descartes was a both a philosopher and mathematician who later become deemed as the father of modern philosophy. Lastly, Galileo Galilei was an engineer, physicist, mathematician, and philosopher who also played a major role in the scientific revolution. Galileo established the principle of inertia which coincides with Newton s first law that states, that an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The difference, however, for the two men is that during the time that Galileo was around he was persecuted and thrown in jail for his beliefs while Newton would be applauded for his findings. Since Galileo was so much earlier than Descartes, and Newton his work was ridiculed more than the other two. This was a difference from Descartes and Newton that is significant because even though his finding were important people never fully grasped the realm of his work because he was unable to speak up about findings. He was even thrown in jail and on house arrest because people did not agree and did not want to hear what he had to say. Descartes and Newton were never condemned to the extent that Galileo was. Even though Descartes and Newton were both scholarly and knowledgeable in the field of science they had different ideas on some things. During Newton s studies he placed alot of importance on philosophical principles that would be the basis of experimental science, while Descartes in his principles of philosophy determined that reason, rather than experimentation , would be the way to discover the ... I was born in Zinapecuaro Michoacan, when I was seven years old I came to Salinas California with all my family. I remembered when I was a child my dad used to come every year to work on the fields. Then, he would go back each year for a short period of time, and I was waiting for him with happiness. As I grew up I realized that my parents wanted me to have a better life which they never had. Because my parents worked all day to bring food to our table, my brothers and I didn t spent too much time with them like we would like. My childhood was not easy at all, but I had the most amazing parents. Also, having their love made the happiest girl in world because that was enough for me. You think before you talk even in front of your own children, because they too are one of them. They control everything you see, think, and do. They are Big Brother. In George Orwell s novel 1984 , a man named Winston Smith lives in a world of absolute totalitarian political regime. Although the totalitarian state is taken to the extremes in Orwell s novel, the parallel between the lives of the citizens in the novel and citizens living in a world of censorship in China is evident. The governments in both situations manipulate and control the people. Orwell s novel provides an example of the outcomes of an absolute power government and how dangerous the situation truly is. Additionally, the novel shows us how the government in China uses their advances in technology to spy on the people, while making sure that everyone is aware that they are constantly being watched. Although the government seems to be acting as if they are doing their part in the novel, the residents of the Air Strip are having their rights controlled, manipulated, and violated by these powerful forces. Once the government has absolute power, they will edit any media that their people read, hear, or see. Not only do they control the people s minds, and thoughts, but their bodies as well. The health effects following exposure to blast impact are a growing concern in the United States, especially in the military population. The United State s involvement in warfare in recent years has led to many unseen developments not only psychologically but also physically in the service men and women returning home. Technological changes in current years have allowed for the development of various types of lethal weaponry, such as with high intensity explosive devices. Participants were tested on batteries of behavioral and physical tests whose scores can demonstrate a connection to problems with central auditory processing (Gallun et al., 2012). The purpose of the study was to see if participants with blast exposure performed worse on these tests than participants without blast exposure, especially with hearing in complex auditory environments and speech in noise types of measures (Gallun et al., 2012). The blast exposure group included veterans seeking treatment at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center post Iraq War. They identified as having exposure to a high intensity blast at least once within the past year. They were excluded from the study if they had any TBI higher than the moderate diagnosis, and were also excluded if they had a hearing loss over 50 dB HL. Subjects without blast exposure were also recruited for the study and were tested at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research in Portland. Analysis Of Fasting Feasting By Anita Desai In the passage from Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai, Arun, a foreign exchange student from India, much to his disdain, joins the mother and daughter of his host family, Melanie and Mrs. Patton, on a day to the beach. The complicated and warped experience that Arun faces on the day trip is characterized by the literary tools used by Anita Desai, such as diction, syntax, and rich descriptions. From the opening paragraph of the passage, Arun s uneager disposition is shown, when he is displayed trying to avoid of the day s plans. However, the extent of Arun s disapproval of the plans is shown through words like despondent, to show the dispirited disposition of the boy, and wildly when describing his formulation of excuses. Furthermore, the relationship between Arun and his host family is presented in this introductory scene, and their eagerness of getting the boy out of the house is shown through Desai s choice to describe Melanie s method of getting him involved as staring challengingly. This emphasizes her determination to get the exchange student out of the house by using a fairly aggressive term, creating the sense of a showdown for the reader. Desai continues the description of the standoff with her use of syntax in the next paragraph. The author avoids using quotation marks during dialogue, as shown when Mrs. Patton says, No, she will not. Absolutely not. This creates a more intriguing section to read, but also creating a strong sense of insistence. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leadership and Culture Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership, powerful leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization (Yukl, 2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically neutral ground for theories of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit assumptions about proper forms of influence. The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining by the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership, and (3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges (2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus on serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective leadership with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first developing a character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. The reaction was stopped by the addition of ice cold buffer, and filtered on glass fibre filters. After additional washings with 5ml of buffer, the concentration of radioactive ligands (antagonists / agonists) trapped on the filters was measured. Agonist binding is reversible, thus the regular incubation period (60 minutes) was doubled to ensure that the conditions were compatible with true equilibrium. The binding of [3H]DHA and [3H]HBI to the frog erythrocyte β Adrenergic receptor were plotted in saturation and competition curves. The Act was initially introduced as the Kennedy Kassebaum Bill and had two primary objectives: Portability and Accountability. The portability portion was intended to ensure individuals would be able to maintain insurance between jobs. This portion was implemented very successfully. The second portion of the act is accountability, which was designed to ensure the security and confidentiality of administrative information and financial data as it relates to patient health information. The Kennedy Kassebaum Bill was renamed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), andenacted in August of 1996. • 37. Manzana Insurance Company Case: Manzana Insurance Fruitvale Branch (Abridged) Harvard Business School Executive Summary Fruitvale s core management problem is the low performance due to an unacceptable long turnaround times (TAT). Especially because of the late Renewals many of Fruitvale´s customers are turning to its major competitor Golden Gate. The operating performance needs to be improved by eradicating the bottleneck in Underwriting. This will be achieved by restructuring and simplifying the process. Through our solution we are going to achieve a new TAT of 0,518 days (3:53 hours). Thereby we hope to recapture the lost market share and satisfy our customers. In average all daily incoming insurance requests will be processed in an extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An UT will therefore underwrite two requests. After underwriting both each team member will rate one of the two requests. It is important that the DCs distribute similar requests in terms of rating time to one certain UT. Due to the fusion of step two and three 25% (time savings in writing and getting into the case) or more of rating time will be saved. In order to stay within a save margin we reduced the weighted average rating time by 25% and added this to the weighted average time of underwriting. We divided the weighting time of the first request lying on the desk while the second is being processed on both requests. In average 12 requests will be processed by the UTs every 109.6 minutes. Every 54.8 minutes (109.6/2 min) 6 requests can be processed by the policy writing department. Hence the average service rate in step two and three is the same. This would also increase productivity by decreasing queuing time. Including all these changes our calculations lead to a TAT of 3:53 hours (see Apendix) We will not set priorities on certain products (RUNs, RERUNs, RAPs, RAINs). We will rather implement FIFO for all products, independent of the profit generated. In order to motivate the employees to do so Salary/Plus can set incentives by rewarding an increase of the weighted average time needed to process a request. This is also a very fair solution with regard to the clients. Conclusion We will be able to renew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
