Advantages Of Low Self-Esteem
Self esteem remains the center focus of academic interest, with numerous studies examining age
differences predictors and change over time periods or cohorts. Having a low self esteem can create
difficulty with interest, education, and social skills. Having a low self esteem is not only unhealthy,
but it can lead to neuroticism and depression (Orth, Robins, and Roberts 2008). On the other hand,
having high self esteem can create problems as well, if one thinks they are great at everything then
they have difficulty seeing their flaws. Understanding how self esteem fluctuates has important
implications for theories of personality development.
A longitudinal study is observational or it can involve collecting data/ surveys. Therefore, the
researchers do not impact the participants answers. However, in a longitudinal study, researchers have
to examine the same participants over the course of the study, which can take decades. A couple
advantages of a longitudinal study are they can show clear variable patterns over time, clear focus and
validity, useful data, and they are flexible. On the other hand a few disadvantages are they can last
many years, participants may drop out of the study, large sample size, and are typically costly.
An advantage of the researchers study is the board ages that were exampled in the research. The
researchers used participants 24 104 in their research allowing for an evaluation of all age groups.
Some research studies leave room for error

Meursault And Raskolnikov
How can the way a character acts or treats other people push the plot of a book forward? Fyodor
Dostoevsky s novel Crime and Punishment and Albert Camus novella The Stranger both feature main
characters guilty of committing murder; however, the the two main characters, Meursault and
Raskolnikov, act very differently and so their fates end up very different. The main character of the
The Stranger is a man simply called Monsieur Mersault. Camus presents Meursault as an honest
person. This doesn t necessarily work in his favor, as he tells people repeatedly that things don t
matter. He is very emotionally detached from everyone and everything. He does not even cry when his
own mother dies, and he does not love the woman who is supposed to be his love interest. Meursault

Meursault, true to his characterization, doesn t really react. He feels no guilt because he does not feel
like anything matters. The murder he committed was just another thing that happened. He is caught
and put on trial for his crimes. The prosecutor uses his indifference toward the death of his mother and
everything else to get him convicted. Even after his conviction, he doesn t show any emotion.
Raskolnikov, however, immediately becomes paranoid about what he has done and thinks that
everyone knows. He falls ill after his crime and the people around him start to believe he has gone
insane. This leads people to suspect him of committing the crime. Perhaps had he not acted the way he
did, no one would suspect of the crime. Despite actually having feelings after his crime, Raskolnikov
also feels no guilt for killing the old woman because of his philosophy about extraordinary men. He
simply dislikes the fact that he wasn t successful and therefore not an extraordinary man. Raskolnikov
ends up confessing to the crime and because of his supposed insanity after the murder it is decided
that he is not some simple

The Ethics Of Business Ethics
Business ethics refers to the consideration of moral decisions and responsibilities in the process of
operating a business. Business ethics, practiced throughout the deepest layers of a company, become
the heart and soul of the company s culture and can mean the difference between success and failure.
Values drive behavior and therefore need to be consciously stated, but they also need to be affirmed by
actions. Ethical business environments are created with foundations of integrity, accountability and
commitment. Personal/Professional Application Integrity is defined as following your moral or ethical
convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having
integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. When
employees are asked what they want from leaders it is integrity. Qualities change across culture and
time, but what people say they want most in American society is integrity. When people are asked to
define integrity, the word they mention most frequently is honesty. The leader with integrity always
tells the truth as he or she believes it to be. Think about the best leader you have ever had; she or he
probably had integrity. First and foremost, people want a leader they can trust. Ask yourself whether
you have a reputation for integrity. (Manning 6) Integrity can be broken down into sub components:
Honesty honesty creates an open environment in the workplace and effective

Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online
Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s,
adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was
considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s
visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social
commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass.
Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of
Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to
compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to
inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of
outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms
with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people
allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet
could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the
1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for
example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer
of Spanish art

Christopher Blackwell s The End Of Athenian Democracy
The End of Athenian Democracy
Christopher Blackwell writing about democracy in, Athenian Democracy: A Brief Overview, says its
decline was a gradual process (2003a, p54). It seems clear that Athens 338 BCE defeat by Macedonia
at the battle of Chaeronea marks the end of Athenian Democracy, but I see this more at the final
tipping point.
In another piece by Blackwell, The Development of Athenian Democracy, he writes, Shortly
thereafter, in 411 BCE, The Athenians brought an end to their democracy and instituted an oligarchy...
(2003b, p24). I think Blackwell s meaning is more figurative than literal. He mentioned Athens failed
415 BCE invasion of Italy and the resulting loss of the Athenian navy and at least one army group.

Billy Selingo Research Paper
During my lifetime I encountered many amazing people. One man who I admire most is my friend,
Billy Selingo. Billy is twenty seven years old and currently attending Manhattanville College to
receive his master s degree. Billy always been a very talented hockey player, as a freshman he began
at the Holderness School then attended a post grad year at the Selects Academy at South Kent, which
totals five years at the competitive prep school level. Next up for him was a scholarship to continue
his hockey career at Manhattanville College, where the team competed at the division three hockey
level. Billy had more skill than most of the team, he thought by playing at the division three level he
would receive more playing time than he was actually getting. Halfway through the season he grew

the assistant coach of the Manhattanville men s ice hockey team. The reason I admire Billy as much as
a do, is because he is not someone who lead a perfect life, he is real, he showed me life isn t always
going to go your way and curve balls will be thrown but you just how to power through it, there is
always a light at the end of the tunnel. I see myself learning from Billy each and every day, he taught
me how getting an education and powering through school will soon pay off and open many doors
each holding new and exiting opportunities that may never have presented themselves without a
strong work ethic, strong mind, and most importantly an education. I live in hopes that one day I will

Hop-Frog And Zadig Irony
Introduction Poe develops narrative point of view through Allusion Foreshadowing Irony Sarcasm

to two books, Rabelais s Gargantua and Voltaire s Zadig. The king prefers to read humorous books
such as Rabelais s Gargantua , instead of serious and philosophical books such as Voltaire s Zadig.

The Impact Of Heroin On Families
The Impact of Heroin on Families
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In today s busy lifestyle world, there has been a number of rising cases of drug abuse. Illicit use of
Opiates, especially heroin has dominated most parts of the world According to the National Survey on
Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), in 2012 about 669,000 Americans reported using heroin in the past
year of 2012. (1.) Research conducted in the past has been focused on the causes and consequences of
heroin abuse primarily from the standpoint of the addict and never the clear view point on the effect of
families. It is thus worth exploring on this menacing drug in quest to look for ways and means of
eradicating it. This paper provides an in depth view on the policy developments with evidence to back
the claims on how Heroin effects families as well .
Here is a graph to show you the use of Heroin users from the age of 12 and older for the past month
and past year of 2012.
1 Introduction A written piece of document on heroin would be incomplete without exploring its
historical background. The passing of the 1914 Harrison Act in US banned the use of cocaine and
opiates. After the passing of the act, regular users in US switched to heroin, which at the time was not
regulated by this Act. In the mid 1920s, intravenous injection of heroin became popular but was later
banned by the US government. While in UK, emergency drug controls were introduced under the
wartime defense of the realm act in 1916. Opiates were not its main

Midsummer Night s Dream Puck Essay
In this play called the Midsummer night s dream it talks about this crazy love rectangle between
Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are important but not as important as this
little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in
love with each other throwing off the balance of love in this play.
In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way he
talks in the play it s very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks it s
normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most
important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the balance of
love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with the girls
fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their for sure.
During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event
of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that
Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play because he s a
fairy and I don t remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical fairies lead by a fairy
named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be considered the most important
character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man
with horns mess with that love

Financial Ratios Case Study

RATIOS TELL A STORY 2011
Financial results and conditions vary among companies for a number of reasons. One reason for the
variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For
example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while
others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits
companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing
structure imposes a much lower profit margin. In most low margin industries, however, companies
often experience a relatively high rate of product throughput. A second reason for some of the ... Show

Who Is The Hero In Willa Cather s My Mortal Enemy
My Mortal Enemy was written by Willa Cather in the early 1900s. She wrote this novella after dealing
with S.S. and Hattie McClure. She actually worked for McClure at one time, and this is when she
experienced their lives the most. After learning all about their lives, she decided to write about them.
In substitution of the McClures she used the Henshawes. Myra and Oswald Henshawe had a very
similar relationship to the McClures. It started with happiness, started going downhill, and then ended
with sympathy and regret. All of the regret and sympathy revolves around Myra. Myra lives a self
centered life, and is her own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. This novella is
narrated by Nellie, who has become friends with Myra Henshawe ... Show more content on

Stefanie on somanybooksblog.com says Myra s jealously and insecurity cause the problems in her and
Oswald s marriage. She says that Oswald and Myra love each other, but are only staying together to
hold on to what they once had ( So Many Books ). Stefanie is certainly right because all the problems
revolve around Myra s jealously and insecurity. She expects the world from Oswald, and does not
appreciate the slightest thing he does for her. Another example comes from a blog on wordpress.com.
The individual says that Myra is the enemy, and her negativity and reckless actions cause her madness
and regret ( Tales from the Reading Room ). This could not be any truer. All of her regret is her own
fault, not because of anyone else. In conclusion, Myra definitely lives a self centered life, and is her
own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. She has a very selfish demeanor to her, and
gives Oswald a hard time. There is no pleasing Myra, because she only keeps asking for more. When
Myra came down with her sickness, her self centered personality hurt her even more. This is what
eventually leads her to her death in front of the sea. Overall, many people choose Myra as her own
mortal enemy, but is there another way to look at it? It is hard to go against choosing Myra because of
her self centered

The Revolt Of Mother By Mary Wilkins
Oppression will not last forever. Sooner or later, the oppressed subject will stand up against the
oppressor someday and finally attains freedom, dignity, and respect. Mary Wilkins wrote her short
story, The Revolt of Mother which mainly focused on a woman to stand up against her authoritarian
husband. She wrote it during the time when women had no voice and counted as a second class citizen
if not a slave. The writer realized that speaking out was the only chain breaker, especially for the one
who was acting as Sara Penn to free others and herself from the cage since she was not treated better
than her husband s cow. Mr. Adoniram, husband of Mrs. Penn, built a new barn for his animals while
his wife stayed in an old, wall paper torn and dilapidated roof home. Moreover, he promised to build
her a decent home but he did not fulfill his promise for forty years. In The Revolt of Mother, Mary
Wilkins portrays the voiceless wife as mother, second and confided citizen, and protagonist role of
women clearly.
Mrs. Sara Penn is a mother , but the word mother can have different meanings such as a maid woman,
selfless wife, or just a caring person to her kids. First, according to the article, Mrs. Sara Penn is maid
because the writer speaks clearly saying, she went into the pantry, and there was a clatter of dishes
where she can cook and wash the dishes (par. 44). Her only work is to fulfil her family s needs. The
writer adds a value saying that, she laid out Adoniram s

Differences Between Star Wars And Star Wars
In this article I ll be talking about the difference in the famous films: Star Wars and Star Trek have a
lot of movies and series.
Introduction:
These two films: Star Wars and Star Trek are films which have to do from the first to the last to
understand. These two films are classified as the two most fanatical movies starting with children and
ending with the elderly. These two series of films I put them to the title: Fantasias Wars
Star Wars information:
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created by George
Lucas. It depicts the adventures of various characters a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away .
The first film in the series, Star Wars (later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope), was ... Show more

Gains movies
While Star Wars has raised its six films about $ 5,670 million, Star Trek with its dozen films he has
reached $ 1,760. And yet here we do not have the latest animated film, which also must be much . The
film pocketed more money from the Star Wars saga was the original 1977 about $ 1,610 million while
Star Trek are barely reached $ 235 million with its Star Trek IV 1986
Conclusion:
I choose Star Wars vs. Star Trek because I like science fiction and fantasy movies. I liked Star Wars
more because it has more special effects and the characters demonstrate more action; however the part
of the movie as the main character. Star Trek didn t Convince me. I think it was boring. Comparing to

Analysis Of The Movie The Bloody Chamber

The Bloody Chamber In the short story The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter depicts a naïve young
girl who is also the narrator who marries a widow named Marquis. The girl is excited to venture into
the world of adulthood, but that excitement ceases when she discovers the horrifying truth of her new
husband. Her husband begins to display a side that she has never seen before and what was supposed
to be a fairy tale love becomes a story full of lust and violence. In this unconventional damsel in
distress tale, the narrator incorporates imagery, metaphor, and allusion to portray sexual innuendo and
male dominance the husband exerts on women. Right before the narrator and Marquis, her groom is
about to wed, he already started to display a dark side of him though that thought was shrugged off for
the time being. She had noticed that he looked at her as if he was a connoisseur inspecting horseflesh
(6), highlight the metaphor to compare the bride to that of a tasty meat at the market. By inspecting
her as if she was some kind of object highlights Marquis preference for dominance over women and
his violent sexual nature. The narrator becomes the object of his fetish and as the horseflesh represents
her body, it becomes sexualized in his eyes. As Marquis is compared to that of a connoisseur, this
elevates him to a status where he becomes something of an expert in choosing the right kind of girl

Analysis Of The Nightmare Before Christmas
Around the world, people know of holidays like St. Patrick s Day, Valentine s day, or Christmas.
However, there is a magical place where not everyone knows of such things, they just know what is
around them. Screenwriter Caroline Thompson allows for others to see a new look at how the holidays
are in their world. For example, Thompson describes how a scary skeleton embarks on a journey and
learns of another holiday that is completely different from his world. Edward Ivory is the main
voiceover of the Thompson s 2014 20/20 winner The Nightmare Before Christmas (Jon Reeves).
Ivory is given the role of Santa, who is the man to save the day after Jack Skellington, Chris Sarandon,
decides to take over Christmas and ruins it all together (Jon Reeves). Jack is bored of being the ruler
of Halloweenland and goes off on a melancholy walk, not realizing where he is going. He comes upon
a group of doors that are for all the Holidays, and becomes intrigued by all the different lands, this is
where the disaster starts. As Jack goes along in the story, he becomes more and more obsessed with
the idea of Christmas, and begins to destroy all that is set in order. The Nightmare Before Christmas
shows why things should stay the way they are, and why disrupting the order of things will cause
chaos. In the beginning of Act I everyone in town is happy after having completed the Halloween
song. The song sets the scene for the entire movie, showing that this town is all about the Halloween

Non-Conformity in The Catcher in the Rye and Igby Goes...
The Catcher in the Rye¬ and Igby goes down, written by JD Salinger and Burr Steers respectively,
explore the issue of non conformity among youth. As Steers text is an appropriation of Salinger s,
similar ideas and opinions are presented, however they are affected by both context and medium in the
way that they are conveyed, and the composers view on the issues. Despite this, their purpose remains
the same, and that is to show the positive and negative sides of non conformism on the mental and
physical health of contemporary youth. The issues used to convey this purpose are conformity,
growing up and relationships, however these are all intertwined throughout the two texts.

In contrary to this, the difference in medium in Steers Igby Goes Down does not allow for this vessel
of empathy; rather, the audience empathises with the character of Igby by seeing his physical reaction
to the events around him. For example, the scene where he begs Sookie to come away with him
through a closed door uses the techniques of misc en scene and symbolism to show the dramatic effect
of the situation on Igby. The audience sees the reactions of Igby and Sookie with only one character
on screen at a time, even though they are so close. In this scene, the door acts as a barrier and a
symbol that they are far apart, which is representative of their gap in age and why Sookie feels she is
more suited to Igby s brother. Through this issue and the techniques used, Salinger and Steers are able
to show the effects of non conformism on contemporary youth.
Another theme that is explored in both The Catcher in the Rye and Igby Goes Down is growing up.
Essentially, both of these texts are a rite of passage novel, where we see the protagonist develop
though their time of adolescence in search for individuality. The journey that the characters in each of
the texts take is originally similar, but result in different outcomes. In Salinger s text, the character of
Holden attempts to stay innocent in the corrupt society in which he lives. Salinger, through this, is

CMO was in 1983 for Freddie Mac was by Salomon Brothers and First Boston (banks). According to
the Investopedia, A collateralized mortgage obligation is a special purpose entity that receives the
mortgage repayments and owns the mortgages it receives cash flows from (called a pool). The
mortgages serve as collateral, and are organized into classes based on their risk profile. Income
received from the mortgages is passed to investors based on a predetermined set of rules, and investors

Eclectic Approach
USING ECLECTIC APPOACH FOR FUTURE TEACHING
Nowadays, English has become the Global language. It is the language of science, technology,
economic, etc. As a result, learning English has become an essential need for everyone. While learners
try their best to reach their goal of successful communicator in foreign language, teachers find ways to
make language teaching effective. In this fashion, considering and choosing the right way in teaching
is prior thing for all of teachers and I am not an exception. We have witnessed the dominance of
Communicative Approach with Communicative Language Teaching in the world in general and in
Vietnam in particular recent years. For me, I will use the Eclectic Approach to teach English in the
future due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is to catch up with globalization of English as well. According to Le Van Canh,
Vietnam introduced CA (approach employed by Communicative Language Teaching) into its school
system rather late than its neighbors such as China, Hong Kong, or Thailand (Canh, 2009). CLT
replaced GMT when The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized the
design of the new curriculum and the writing of new textbooks for all school subjects in 2002.
However, the application of CA faces many challenges. The challenges are from the teachers, learners,
the class constrains, the syllabus. Vietnamese students and teachers are still familiar with GTM that
has influence on them for long time, so the change into the new one is not easy at all. In addition, the
class size with over forty students per class is one thing that make us concern. Also, the mismatch
between the textbook and testing system is another one concern as well. While textbook focuses on
four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, testing still focuses on testing linguistic
competences only on that grammar and reading only as Wang 2008 once stated while curriculum
developers and textbook writers emphasize the adoption of a communicative approach to teaching,
classroom pedagogy has remained textbook based, test oriented and teacher fronted ( cited in Canh
Barrnard, 2009: 28). So eclectic approach which combines the traditional one and modern one is the
solution in this

Themes And Conflicts In The Glass Menagerie By Tennessee...
Set in St. Louis Missouri prior to World War II, Tennessee Williams reflects back on his deeply tragic
and dysfunctional familial experiences in, The Glass Menagerie . Williams brilliantly incorporates real
aspects of society to reveal how they contributed to the nonreal aspects and the conflicts which
affected his family. The real aspects of the play which had a significant impact on the lower middle
class families such as the Wingfields included, the economic hardships surrounding the Great
Depression, the fall of the American south, society s intolerance towards homosexuality, and many
threats abroad. Although Williams play was merely a series of hazy memories, the nonreal aspects
combined with the major societal conflicts contribute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through Amanda s inability to separate the real from the fantasy, William s proves that Amanda s
main coping mechanism is to retreat from reality. Amanda s role as the forgotten southern belle also
impacts her relationship with her daughter Laura, who suffers from crippling social anxiety and an
inferiority complex as a result of her disability. Aside from the internal and external conflicts which
impact Amanda, Williams s strongly expresses his indictment through his very own character, Tom.
Tom is merely a victim of both societal conflicts and his own guilt caused by his decision to seek
fulfillment within his own life, rather than surrender to the unsatisfying life which his mother had
created for him. One of the greatest factors in Tom s lifestyle that creates his desire to escape this
sense of imprisonment, is society s overall attitude toward homosexuality, specifically within his
mother. Amanda stated, I took that horrible novel back to the library yes! That hideous book by that
insane Mr. Lawrence. I cannot control the output of diseased minds or people who cater to them but I
won t let such filth brought into my house (Williams 759). Because 1930 s society does not allow
homosexuality to be expressed openly, literature is the closest way which allows him to express
himself. The simple fact that his novels are the one way which allows him to gain any sense of
satisfaction is taken away by his

Determining whether or not to use an article can cause some difficulty for Spanish speakers because
their language rules are different from English language rules. In the Spanish language they do not use
articles when referring professions unlike in the English language. This will be noticeable when
transferring for Spanish to English. This is observable in the interview. The interview subject
consistently left out the article when referring to her husband s occupation (Parrott, 2010, p. 25).
* My husband have business. * He is businessman and takes care for my childrens in my house.

playing Article Dominos. Language learners are given several paper dominos with a picture or word

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation Essay
The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation established the Brookhaven landfill in
March 1974. Since then, residents have revealed many health concerns and other relative issues
against the placement of the landfill. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)
has been addressed in regards to a necessary public health consultation to draw attention to these
concerns. After further cooperative agreements amongst the New York State Department of Health
(NYS DOH) and ATSDR, a public health consultation was reached. Many solutions have been
uncovered; however, the outcome has yet to be determined as it is evident that a reasonable response
must be initiated through the cooperation of the government and community. The Brookhaven landfill
has created a number of problems for the citizens living near the establishment. Not only is it an
unsightly addition to the community, but the putrid stench proposes a grave problem concerning the
people s health and real estate success rate. Numerous complaints have been filed throughout the
Bellport school districts regarding the foul and distracting odor that engulfs the hallways. Classes have
been cancelled on multiple occasions because of these problems (1). Similar to the effects shown on

American Workers and Labor Unions in The Twenties
In the period immediately following World War I, American workers struggled to earn a living as
prices rose and wages stagnated, forcing them to seek union support. Labor unions endeavored to
represent the working class against their employers and corporations, who refused to increase wages
or improve working conditions. In order to combat the capitalist s immense political clout, unions
made their voice heard through strikes. After the war, capitalists linked unions to the mounting
communist threat, stressing that strikes undermined capitalism and threatened a republican form of
government. As a result, government sided with capital against labor unions and the struggle of the
American workers, who had no voice against corporations. This struggle can be exemplified in a
correspondence between union leader, Samuel Gompers and bishop William Quayle, published in The
Twenties in Contemporary Commentary: Labor Capital . The letters demonstrate that in the 1920 s,
labor unions were necessary as a means to overcome capitalist greed and enhanced the ideals of
democracy by empowering the working class. Unimpeded in their pursuit of maximum profits to the
detriment of the workers, capitalists and their oppressive methods made labor unions necessary. It is
vital to acknowledge the possible bias in Gompers argument, considering he is a union leader. Also,
bishop Quayle s potential bias must be considered, stemming from him being a clergymen who s in
contact with those affected

  • 2. Advantages Of Low Self-Esteem Self esteem remains the center focus of academic interest, with numerous studies examining age differences predictors and change over time periods or cohorts. Having a low self esteem can create difficulty with interest, education, and social skills. Having a low self esteem is not only unhealthy, but it can lead to neuroticism and depression (Orth, Robins, and Roberts 2008). On the other hand, having high self esteem can create problems as well, if one thinks they are great at everything then they have difficulty seeing their flaws. Understanding how self esteem fluctuates has important implications for theories of personality development. A longitudinal study is observational or it can involve collecting data/ surveys. Therefore, the researchers do not impact the participants answers. However, in a longitudinal study, researchers have to examine the same participants over the course of the study, which can take decades. A couple advantages of a longitudinal study are they can show clear variable patterns over time, clear focus and validity, useful data, and they are flexible. On the other hand a few disadvantages are they can last many years, participants may drop out of the study, large sample size, and are typically costly. An advantage of the researchers study is the board ages that were exampled in the research. The researchers used participants 24 104 in their research allowing for an evaluation of all age groups. • 5. Meursault And Raskolnikov How can the way a character acts or treats other people push the plot of a book forward? Fyodor Dostoevsky s novel Crime and Punishment and Albert Camus novella The Stranger both feature main characters guilty of committing murder; however, the the two main characters, Meursault and Raskolnikov, act very differently and so their fates end up very different. The main character of the The Stranger is a man simply called Monsieur Mersault. Camus presents Meursault as an honest person. This doesn t necessarily work in his favor, as he tells people repeatedly that things don t matter. He is very emotionally detached from everyone and everything. He does not even cry when his own mother dies, and he does not love the woman who is supposed to be his love interest. Meursault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meursault, true to his characterization, doesn t really react. He feels no guilt because he does not feel like anything matters. The murder he committed was just another thing that happened. He is caught and put on trial for his crimes. The prosecutor uses his indifference toward the death of his mother and everything else to get him convicted. Even after his conviction, he doesn t show any emotion. Raskolnikov, however, immediately becomes paranoid about what he has done and thinks that everyone knows. He falls ill after his crime and the people around him start to believe he has gone insane. This leads people to suspect him of committing the crime. Perhaps had he not acted the way he did, no one would suspect of the crime. Despite actually having feelings after his crime, Raskolnikov also feels no guilt for killing the old woman because of his philosophy about extraordinary men. He simply dislikes the fact that he wasn t successful and therefore not an extraordinary man. Raskolnikov ends up confessing to the crime and because of his supposed insanity after the murder it is decided that he is not some simple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Ethics Of Business Ethics Business ethics refers to the consideration of moral decisions and responsibilities in the process of operating a business. Business ethics, practiced throughout the deepest layers of a company, become the heart and soul of the company s culture and can mean the difference between success and failure. Values drive behavior and therefore need to be consciously stated, but they also need to be affirmed by actions. Ethical business environments are created with foundations of integrity, accountability and commitment. Personal/Professional Application Integrity is defined as following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. When employees are asked what they want from leaders it is integrity. Qualities change across culture and time, but what people say they want most in American society is integrity. When people are asked to define integrity, the word they mention most frequently is honesty. The leader with integrity always tells the truth as he or she believes it to be. Think about the best leader you have ever had; she or he probably had integrity. First and foremost, people want a leader they can trust. Ask yourself whether you have a reputation for integrity. (Manning 6) Integrity can be broken down into sub components: Honesty honesty creates an open environment in the workplace and effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s, adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass. Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the 1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer of Spanish art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It seems clear that Athens 338 BCE defeat by Macedonia at the battle of Chaeronea marks the end of Athenian Democracy, but I see this more at the final tipping point. In another piece by Blackwell, The Development of Athenian Democracy, he writes, Shortly thereafter, in 411 BCE, The Athenians brought an end to their democracy and instituted an oligarchy... The reason I admire Billy as much as a do, is because he is not someone who lead a perfect life, he is real, he showed me life isn t always going to go your way and curve balls will be thrown but you just how to power through it, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I see myself learning from Billy each and every day, he taught me how getting an education and powering through school will soon pay off and open many doors each holding new and exiting opportunities that may never have presented themselves without a strong work ethic, strong mind, and most importantly an education. Illicit use of Opiates, especially heroin has dominated most parts of the world According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), in 2012 about 669,000 Americans reported using heroin in the past year of 2012. (1.) Research conducted in the past has been focused on the causes and consequences of heroin abuse primarily from the standpoint of the addict and never the clear view point on the effect of families. It is thus worth exploring on this menacing drug in quest to look for ways and means of eradicating it. This paper provides an in depth view on the policy developments with evidence to back the claims on how Heroin effects families as well . Here is a graph to show you the use of Heroin users from the age of 12 and older for the past month and past year of 2012. 1 Introduction A written piece of document on heroin would be incomplete without exploring its historical background. The passing of the 1914 Harrison Act in US banned the use of cocaine and opiates. After the passing of the act, regular users in US switched to heroin, which at the time was not regulated by this Act. In the mid 1920s, intravenous injection of heroin became popular but was later banned by the US government. • 13. Midsummer Night s Dream Puck Essay In this play called the Midsummer night s dream it talks about this crazy love rectangle between Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are important but not as important as this little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in love with each other throwing off the balance of love in this play. In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way he talks in the play it s very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks it s normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the balance of love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with the girls fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their for sure. During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play because he s a fairy and I don t remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical fairies lead by a fairy named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be considered the most important character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man with horns mess with that love ... One reason for the variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing structure imposes a much lower profit margin. • 15. Who Is The Hero In Willa Cather s My Mortal Enemy My Mortal Enemy was written by Willa Cather in the early 1900s. She wrote this novella after dealing with S.S. and Hattie McClure. She actually worked for McClure at one time, and this is when she experienced their lives the most. After learning all about their lives, she decided to write about them. In substitution of the McClures she used the Henshawes. Myra and Oswald Henshawe had a very similar relationship to the McClures. It started with happiness, started going downhill, and then ended with sympathy and regret. All of the regret and sympathy revolves around Myra. Myra lives a self centered life, and is her own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. This novella is narrated by Nellie, who has become friends with Myra Henshawe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stefanie on somanybooksblog.com says Myra s jealously and insecurity cause the problems in her and Oswald s marriage. She says that Oswald and Myra love each other, but are only staying together to hold on to what they once had ( So Many Books ). Stefanie is certainly right because all the problems revolve around Myra s jealously and insecurity. She expects the world from Oswald, and does not appreciate the slightest thing he does for her. Another example comes from a blog on wordpress.com. The individual says that Myra is the enemy, and her negativity and reckless actions cause her madness and regret ( Tales from the Reading Room ). This could not be any truer. All of her regret is her own fault, not because of anyone else. In conclusion, Myra definitely lives a self centered life, and is her own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. She has a very selfish demeanor to her, and gives Oswald a hard time. There is no pleasing Myra, because she only keeps asking for more. When Myra came down with her sickness, her self centered personality hurt her even more. This is what eventually leads her to her death in front of the sea. Overall, many people choose Myra as her own mortal enemy, but is there another way to look at it? • 16. The Revolt Of Mother By Mary Wilkins Oppression will not last forever. Sooner or later, the oppressed subject will stand up against the oppressor someday and finally attains freedom, dignity, and respect. Mary Wilkins wrote her short story, The Revolt of Mother which mainly focused on a woman to stand up against her authoritarian husband. She wrote it during the time when women had no voice and counted as a second class citizen if not a slave. The writer realized that speaking out was the only chain breaker, especially for the one who was acting as Sara Penn to free others and herself from the cage since she was not treated better than her husband s cow. Mr. Adoniram, husband of Mrs. Penn, built a new barn for his animals while his wife stayed in an old, wall paper torn and dilapidated roof home. Moreover, he promised to build her a decent home but he did not fulfill his promise for forty years. In The Revolt of Mother, Mary Wilkins portrays the voiceless wife as mother, second and confided citizen, and protagonist role of women clearly. Mrs. Sara Penn is a mother , but the word mother can have different meanings such as a maid woman, selfless wife, or just a caring person to her kids. First, according to the article, Mrs. Sara Penn is maid because the writer speaks clearly saying, she went into the pantry, and there was a clatter of dishes where she can cook and wash the dishes (par. 44). Analysis Of The Movie The Bloody Chamber Han Tran Dr. Ewell English 308W November 15, 2016 The Bloody Chamber In the short story The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter depicts a naïve young girl who is also the narrator who marries a widow named Marquis. The girl is excited to venture into the world of adulthood, but that excitement ceases when she discovers the horrifying truth of her new husband. Her husband begins to display a side that she has never seen before and what was supposed to be a fairy tale love becomes a story full of lust and violence. In this unconventional damsel in distress tale, the narrator incorporates imagery, metaphor, and allusion to portray sexual innuendo and male dominance the husband exerts on women. Right before the narrator and Marquis, her groom is about to wed, he already started to display a dark side of him though that thought was shrugged off for the time being. She had noticed that he looked at her as if he was a connoisseur inspecting horseflesh (6), highlight the metaphor to compare the bride to that of a tasty meat at the market. By inspecting her as if she was some kind of object highlights Marquis preference for dominance over women and his violent sexual nature. The narrator becomes the object of his fetish and as the horseflesh represents her body, it becomes sexualized in his eyes. As Marquis is compared to that of a connoisseur, this elevates him to a status where he becomes something of an expert in choosing the right kind of girl who is pure in order for ... However, there is a magical place where not everyone knows of such things, they just know what is around them. Screenwriter Caroline Thompson allows for others to see a new look at how the holidays are in their world. For example, Thompson describes how a scary skeleton embarks on a journey and learns of another holiday that is completely different from his world. Edward Ivory is the main voiceover of the Thompson s 2014 20/20 winner The Nightmare Before Christmas (Jon Reeves). Ivory is given the role of Santa, who is the man to save the day after Jack Skellington, Chris Sarandon, decides to take over Christmas and ruins it all together (Jon Reeves). Jack is bored of being the ruler of Halloweenland and goes off on a melancholy walk, not realizing where he is going. He comes upon a group of doors that are for all the Holidays, and becomes intrigued by all the different lands, this is where the disaster starts. As Jack goes along in the story, he becomes more and more obsessed with the idea of Christmas, and begins to destroy all that is set in order. The Nightmare Before Christmas shows why things should stay the way they are, and why disrupting the order of things will cause chaos. The Catcher in the Rye¬ and Igby goes down, written by JD Salinger and Burr Steers respectively, explore the issue of non conformity among youth. As Steers text is an appropriation of Salinger s, similar ideas and opinions are presented, however they are affected by both context and medium in the way that they are conveyed, and the composers view on the issues. Despite this, their purpose remains the same, and that is to show the positive and negative sides of non conformism on the mental and physical health of contemporary youth. The issues used to convey this purpose are conformity, growing up and relationships, however these are all intertwined throughout the two texts. In contrary to this, the difference in medium in Steers Igby Goes Down does not allow for this vessel of empathy; rather, the audience empathises with the character of Igby by seeing his physical reaction to the events around him. For example, the scene where he begs Sookie to come away with him through a closed door uses the techniques of misc en scene and symbolism to show the dramatic effect of the situation on Igby. The audience sees the reactions of Igby and Sookie with only one character on screen at a time, even though they are so close. In this scene, the door acts as a barrier and a symbol that they are far apart, which is representative of their gap in age and why Sookie feels she is more suited to Igby s brother. Through this issue and the techniques used, Salinger and Steers are able to show the effects of non conformism on contemporary youth. Another theme that is explored in both The Catcher in the Rye and Igby Goes Down is growing up. Essentially, both of these texts are a rite of passage novel, where we see the protagonist develop though their time of adolescence in search for individuality. The journey that the characters in each of the texts take is originally similar, but result in different outcomes. According to Le Van Canh, Vietnam introduced CA (approach employed by Communicative Language Teaching) into its school system rather late than its neighbors such as China, Hong Kong, or Thailand (Canh, 2009). CLT replaced GMT when The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized the design of the new curriculum and the writing of new textbooks for all school subjects in 2002. However, the application of CA faces many challenges. The challenges are from the teachers, learners, the class constrains, the syllabus. Vietnamese students and teachers are still familiar with GTM that has influence on them for long time, so the change into the new one is not easy at all. In addition, the class size with over forty students per class is one thing that make us concern. Also, the mismatch between the textbook and testing system is another one concern as well. While textbook focuses on four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, testing still focuses on testing linguistic competences only on that grammar and reading only as Wang 2008 once stated while curriculum developers and textbook writers emphasize the adoption of a communicative approach to teaching, classroom pedagogy has remained textbook based, test oriented and teacher fronted ( cited in Canh Barrnard, 2009: 28). Through Amanda s inability to separate the real from the fantasy, William s proves that Amanda s main coping mechanism is to retreat from reality. Amanda s role as the forgotten southern belle also impacts her relationship with her daughter Laura, who suffers from crippling social anxiety and an inferiority complex as a result of her disability. Aside from the internal and external conflicts which impact Amanda, Williams s strongly expresses his indictment through his very own character, Tom. Tom is merely a victim of both societal conflicts and his own guilt caused by his decision to seek fulfillment within his own life, rather than surrender to the unsatisfying life which his mother had created for him. One of the greatest factors in Tom s lifestyle that creates his desire to escape this sense of imprisonment, is society s overall attitude toward homosexuality, specifically within his mother. Amanda stated, I took that horrible novel back to the library yes! That hideous book by that insane Mr. Lawrence. I cannot control the output of diseased minds or people who cater to them but I won t let such filth brought into my house (Williams 759). • 32. American Workers and Labor Unions in The Twenties In the period immediately following World War I, American workers struggled to earn a living as prices rose and wages stagnated, forcing them to seek union support. Labor unions endeavored to represent the working class against their employers and corporations, who refused to increase wages or improve working conditions. In order to combat the capitalist s immense political clout, unions made their voice heard through strikes. After the war, capitalists linked unions to the mounting communist threat, stressing that strikes undermined capitalism and threatened a republican form of government. As a result, government sided with capital against labor unions and the struggle of the American workers, who had no voice against corporations. This struggle can be exemplified in a correspondence between union leader, Samuel Gompers and bishop William Quayle, published in The Twenties in Contemporary Commentary: Labor Capital . The letters demonstrate that in the 1920 s, labor unions were necessary as a means to overcome capitalist greed and enhanced the ideals of democracy by empowering the working class. Unimpeded in their pursuit of maximum profits to the detriment of the workers, capitalists and their oppressive methods made labor unions necessary.
