While Modern Film Productions Have Lost The Ambitious...
While modern film productions have lost the ambitious classicism of early cinema, the idea to view
cinematography itself as a self governing construction of thinking has been carved into the history of
continental philosophy. Due to the variety of material and conjecture, film manipulates the four
dimensional reality in which we live our everyday lives in. From A quoi pensent les films?, Jacques
Aumont, a French academic writer on film theory, states that film has the power of thinking in order to
express that the art form has the ability to release us from the restriction of our realistic judgements
and radical perceptions, producing a poetic and dreamlike reality.
Film philosophers that were specifically intrigued in the mechanics of ... Show more content on

Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, declines this model theory by communicating that the cinematic
adventure actively perceive time and movement all in one platform, his philosophy was the variance
of material and spiritual actuality. In a counter exploration of Benjamin s ideals, when one looks at a
clock they view purely different placements and positions of the clocks hands, but this act entails no
specific spiritual connection to the viewer. The same logic of this situation compares to the example
from Benjamin s. Only the single audience s encounter can determine the product. Exploring this
theory, French philosopher Deleuze, who wrote on the philosophy of literature, film, and fine art,
counters Benjamin s statement arguing that our mind does not need to put together the arbitrary
components that is required to construct a piece but rather we can receive the information as a whole.
In his two most popular books on cinema, Deleuze argues that because of Image Mouvement (Cinéma
I) and Image Temps (Cinéma II), Deleuze moves to say films do not think with plain set images like
paintings, which produce no mechanics to personify thought, but with movement images and time
images. Movement images are explained as a scene of action the creates a reaction, producing the
cycle of similar scenes. Time images are defined by Deleuze as a scene that is created entirely on
thought. Not only do these two components provide the audience

Software Design Of A Computer Based System
A key requirement of the software design of a computer based system is to transform basic
requirements into an architecture that describes the software s top level structure and identifies its
components. Accomplishment of this requirement is through architectural design, providing a
blueprint for developing the framework of the software (Mattsson, Lundell, Lings, Fitzgerald, 2009).
The establishment of the framework involves examining the software requirements document and
designing a model for providing necessary implementation details. The details specify components of
the system along with all inputs, outputs, functions, and the interactions between the components. This
paper includes a description of the architectural design of a computer based system that has transform
characteristics, and includes a data flow diagram with process narrative, and evaluation of the
architectural design. Further, an assessment of the structuring requirements associated with software
architecture is included.
Architectural Design Structure An architectural design performs key functions, and is of crucial
importance in software engineering during the phase of software development where the essential
requirements of reliability, cost, and performance are determined. Architectural design provides the
definition of the abstraction level at which the software design specifies both the functional and
performance behaviors of the system, and the guidelines for enhancing the system by

Dee Daffodl
Many country songs, such as Think of You by Chris Young, can be used to help heal a broken heart, or
let a person know they aren t alone when going through a breakup. Songs have a very distinct way of
reaching individuals, and poems can too, if time is taken to read them. Chris Young and Dee Daffodil
have very similar ideas when it comes to a broken heart, yet are formatted in two completely different
ways, with one being a poem, and the other being a song. The poem To the Memory of Love by Dee
Daffodil is similar to the song Think of You by Chris Young when it comes to using poetic devices,
making them equal, yet different.
Both the poem, To the Memory of Love , and the song, Think of You , are similar in ways of

but it s true / When they think of me, they think of you (16 17). Chris Young and Cassadee Pope are
expressing the pain of moving on and how they are realizing that what they had was special and it is
hard to move on. Dee Daffodil expresses how the certain love between the two people in the poem has
disappeared from a lack of effort, which is defeating to any other human because it is something easily

Go Set A Watchman Conflict Analysis
A major conflict in Go Set a Watchman is the epiphany/reality check that Jean Louise goes through.
She realizes that Maycomb may be in the same location, but almost everything has changed. My aunt
is a hostile stranger, my Calpurnia won t have anything to do with me, Hank is insane, and Atticus
something s wrong with me, it s something about me. It has to be because all these people cannot have
changed. (167) It may have changed physically or metaphorically for example, the home that she grew
up in is now an ice cream parlor and Atticus is no longer the hero she thought he was. Atticus was her

her father and believed that he could do no wrong. If a man says to you, This is the truth, and you

you will not be caught on by him again. (179) Now, she sees him as the bigot he is (and was). He He

insular world, she may have discovered that all her life she had been with a visual defect which had
gone unnoticed and neglected by herself and by those closest to her: she was born color blind. (122)
This sense of colorblindness is not entirely true. She makes some racist remarks, thus showing how
growing up in the south influenced her opinion. Throughout the novel, it appears that she has blinders

A Review Of Tanf Assistance Programs
A Review of the TANF Cash Assistance Programs
Roughly 20% of the United States children are living in families suffering from poverty (National
Center for Education Statistics, 2015). According to Yeung, Linver and Brooks Gunn (2002); Pungello
et al., (2010); and Evans (2004), economic hardships increase the likelihood of maladaptive behaviors
while decreasing school performance and poor cognitive behavioral development. (1861 1879; 410
426; 77 92). To prevent this, lawmakers were spurred into creating public policy to actively reduce the
rate of childhood poverty along with associated risk factors as well as foster economic independency
in families apart from the welfare system.
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Act, TANF, was created out of a block grant from
PRWORA. TANF replaced two programs: the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training program
JOBS and the Aid to Families with Dependent Children AFDC program that provided assistance to
mothers and children. Then president, Bill Clinton remarked that the creation of this act would [end]
welfare as we know it (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 2015). AFDC had been criticized for
providing assistance to non working mothers and incentives for children out of marriage. As such,
program s design was tailored to fill the needs of poor families through cash assistance so that they
would be able to obtain economic self sufficiency (Abt, 2001). The program has four additional
declared purposes: 1. to

Summary Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin
A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both
authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in
order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role
of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the
oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction
and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young,
hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos,
readers can view both short stories in a new criticism lense and juxtapose two societies that feature a
suffering aspect in each story. In Ray Bradbury s short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft
Rains , the protagonist is the only house left standing in Allendale, California after a nuclear
explosion. However, the protagonist is not an average house. The house is technologically
programmed to carry out all of the tasks and duties of an ordinary family. Although the family that
lived in the house before the explosion are no longer present, the house carries out its scheduled
routine. At the beginning of the story, Bradbury explains that memory tapes glided and chimed out the
passing time while no doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels . The house has
become abandoned, yet, it continues to exercise its daily functions. Ray Bradbury also gives life to the
house in a way that it seems to be a human. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: rain, rain,
go away; rubbers, raincoats for today... is a prime example of the way Bradbury brings life to the
empty house. Another example of personification that Bradbury uses in his short story is, It quivered
at each sound, the house did. If a sparrow brushed a window, the shade snapped up. The house is
depicted to have a mind of its own. In August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains, the house continues
to function even though the family and residents of the town has suffered from the nuclear explosion.
In Ray Bradbury s August 2026:

Aristotle believes that the language must be sweet in tragedy. The level of language used by different
characters should differ to depict the social stands of the characters (Adade Yeboah, Ahenkora,
Amankwa, 2012 pg. 1). Additionally, he focuses on meaningful language reflected throughout the
entire play, and stresses that tragedy must be taken seriously.
Aristotle presents that there is a complex relationship between tragedy and emotions. For him, it is
expressed through pity and fear. Konstan argues:
The idea that the object of pity does not deserve his fate is present in the definition Aristotle offers in
the Rhetoric; in the Poetics, however, Aristotle exploits the concept of similarity in order to explain
the terror that tragedy induces. If the characters on stage are enough like ourselves the context
indicates that the sense is morally similar then we will experience their fear as our own. (Konstan,
1999, pg. 1) Unquestionably, the audience reacts to the sequence of events in the play; feeling pity for
Oedipus about his fate and the predicament he faces.
Aristotle praises a brilliant arrangement that makes the play more attractive and creates higher
expectations:
The putting together of the separate actions is very crucial. The beauty of the plot therefore lies in the
arrangements which must have magnitude and not be a matter of chance. Indeed, the subtle
manipulation of the

Chicano Film Analysis
Chicano Films for Future Chicanos Chicano film is a special and important genre of film that has
become an outlet for Chicanos in order for their voices to be heard and stories to be seen by all. After
watching a number of Chicano films this semester, I have gained a deeper understanding of Chicano
history and have even been able to relate to many of the stories, conflicts, struggles, and pride shared
through these films. I feel as though Chicano film has progressed quite a bit since the beginning of
Chicano cinema in 1954 when Salt of the Earth was released, and many modern films have allowed
different perspectives to be seen regarding Chicano and overall Latino culture. If I had to choose two

The students both in Walkout and Stand and Deliver experience some sort of discrimination brought
on by administrators at their own schools. In Walkout, Paula and her classmates face apathy from
school officials after asking for reform in their school system, due to the fact that they attend an East
Los Angeles public school filled with mainly low income Chicano students. In a particularly powerful
scene, the filmmaker showcases this apathy in a high angle shot, when the school board dismisses a
call for action by Paula, her classmates, and Sal Castro after they show up to a meeting. In Stand and
Deliver, we see the same event happen in a scene when Jaime Escalante proposes teaching calculus to
his students during a board meeting. The filmmaker uses reaction shots and close up shots to show the
other school teachers and administrators disapproval over the idea, stating that they do not believe the
Latino students in the school can rise up to the challenge. I believe that this is very influential,
especially with Chicano students, as discrimination in film can serve as a teaching lesson to be more
empathetic and open minded to others who are different in some

Female Infanticide
Imagine a world with no women. There as no wives, no sisters, no daughters, and no mothers.
Unfortunately this world is on the brink of becoming a scary reality for Asian countries such as China
and India. Due to attempts to control population and the low value associated with females in these
societies historically and culturally, both China and India are now facing a serious gender imbalance.
Female infanticide and sex selective abortion are responsible for this gender imbalance. The two
atrocious practices have led to problems such as elevated rates in female kidnapping and slave trade,
as well as forced marriages. This paper will focus on the roots of female infanticide and sex selective

In the countryside, less than half a million out of a total rural population of eight hundred million were
receiving pensions in 1981. Individuals and families who live in rural areas rely on their off spring to
be part of their working staff. If such families are only allowed to have one child, they much prefer to
have males because they believe they are of more use for jobs that require physical labor. (Hong,
1987) If a Chinese family who is not secure financially does indeed have a daughter than she will
most likely not marry, Hong explains. For economic reasons, families with daughters are unlikely to
let them go to grooms villages to live because they will be needed not only for the parents old age
security but also to boost the life long earning potential of the household. (Hong 1987 pg. 320)
In Chinese culture, it is said, a woman s greatest duty is to have a son. If a woman does not give birth
to a son, her husband will often take another wife in hopes of another woman carrying his heir
(Hvistendahl 2008). Women are viewed as so inferior, that often, poor families would sell their
daughters as servants to rich families. Despite the egalitarian nature of Chinese society, many parents
believe that having a son is a vital element of providing for their old age. When a daughter is married

Accuracy Of Gladiator
Gladiator is an epic historical action drama set in the Roman Empire during the reign of Commodus,
the last emperor of the Nerva Antonine dynasty. The film is directed by Ridley Scott and features big
name actors such as Russel Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and the late Richard Harris. In brief the story of
Gladiator centers Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe), a betrayed Roman General who is
forced into becoming a gladiator. Maximus fights his way from a lowly arena on the outskirts of the
empire, to the Colosseum at Rome with the goal of killing the emperor Commodus, avenging the
murder of his family. In terms of their social status, the film portrays gladiators as a mix of slaves,
prisoners, and professional athletes. The gladiators are the property of a Roman citizen, most seemed
to be there against their will, and yet they could achieve massive popular approval and support like a
professional athlete of today. Maximus s relationship with the crowd is an important plot point,
showing the necessity of a gladiator in getting the approval of the masses to better ensure their
survival. The film projects gladiators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The New Vice President Over Administrative Affairs At...
The new vice president over administrative affairs at Sweetwater State University, Rob Winchester,
has been tasked with improving and developing a new appraisal system used to evaluate secretarial
and clerical performance at the university (Dessler, 2015, p. 287). Rob s initial memo to the
administrators instructed that in the future, no more than fifty percent of the secretaries under each
supervisor could receive a rating of excellent on their annual performance appraisals. Immediately,
this memo caused turmoil within the university with both the secretaries and managers. The
secretaries were worried this new system was unfair and reduced each secretary s chance of receiving
a maximum salary increase (Dessler, 2015, p. 287). Additionally, the managers were concerned they
would begin losing secretaries to more lucrative jobs. With all of this at hand, Rob called on several
performance appraisal experts within the university to find a viable solution to the task at hand. Rob

In comparison to text based performances, those of a non text based nature can illustrate the unity
between cultures with less difficulty due to universally understood practices and semiotics in an
increasingly globalised world. Non text based performances provide both beneficial and critical
elements when compared to text based performances and this will be analysed and demonstrated with
the example of performing the dark arts . The will ensue performances of ritualised purposes,

As the performance of illusion and secular magic does so already. Secular magic, being of a non text
based nature does not, as previously mentioned, follow such rigid performance boundaries as text
based performances that stem from plays or scripts, for instance. A dramatic text can often represent
eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not
to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a
little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of
Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a
non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are
linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue.
Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or
viewing a performance. Simon During

Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens
Angelina Almanzar
ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel
Professor Elizabeth Weybright
27 June 2016
Utilitarianism in Hard Times
During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking,
choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles
Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly,
through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath
Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism
and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class.
Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he
commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to
the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web
(www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in
exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at
the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory which as we may
know recommends ethical recommendations for everyday life, thus making hard decision making
easier for us. This theory mostly focuses on moral action, holding on to the belief that people s

nothing on the other side. These people felt that and were very scared. The Pilgrims suffered a lot in
the first months. People were sick and helpless. The people were dying. Their only solution was to

Americans were really smart people. They had a lot of knowledge about the land. This was their land,

coinciding portrayals of women by explaining their societal roles, handling of circumstances,
character, and external depictions. In terms of being categorized as female, a woman must manage
both the circumstances at hand and her societal roles. Willy Loman, an arguably proud man,

Although they adamantly strive to be independent and liberated individuals, women are not liberated
at all because [they] talk about it too much (Hansberry 64). Women themselves divulge their own
weakness because they formulate a false notion of autonomy. Their error is that they prefer a feeling
of liberation rather than liberation itself. Despite being subject to men s mistreatment and life s
suffering, a woman will sacrifice and do anything for her family (Hansberry 75). Men have at many
times verbally abused women and suppressed their opinions, but that does not impede women from
sacrificing everything for the people they love. Women are portrayed positively because they display
strength and perseverance. In contrast, Willy Loman considers his wife a burden when he expresses
the idea that the woman has suffered (Miller 99). Women are now portrayed negatively because they
are described as weak and fragile. This portrayal is unjustified because Willy Loman has had more
lamentations while Linda Loman has defended his social standing. Although providing a portrayal for
women is largely a subjective evaluation, one cannot deny a woman s character and sacrifices. A

Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples
Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have
gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of
the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the
audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director.
One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet
orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William
Shakespeare. The written work of Hamlet and the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli have many
similar scenes. Act I Scene V is one of the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

due to the fact that Hamlet s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also
connects to the hypothesis that Gibson s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in

Also, Gibson s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because
everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare s
original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the heavy headed revel that
causes other nations to clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase (Hamlet I.iv.21 23). Shakespeare s
Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his
excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with
broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. In the original Hamlet not a lot of
information is given about the general public, but what is known is that Hamlet does not mix with
paupers except for the traveling theater group. The two pictures of Hamlet s world are very different

The Big Time College Sports
In this era of big time college sports, it seems the main focus of Division I athletics evolves around the
money that schools and conferences make through different deals. These deals typically involve
television rights for individual conferences with major television networks. Currently the NCAA has a
14 year, $11 billion TV deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting for the NCAA basketball Tournament,
and this upcoming year ESPN will pay around $470 million to broadcast the new college football
playoffs. The majority of this money is streamed to a teams athletic departments via their respective

the court. Therefore the size of a school s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individually conference. The first and most profitable one is the Big Ten.
Big Ten
The Big Ten is known as the conference where the money is. Year in and year out the Big Ten has the
highest revenues. This can be credited to the prospering Big Ten Network. The Big Ten the first major
conference with their own network, most major conferences have now established a conference
affiliated network. The conference s revenues are expected to grow annually, and 12 of 14 Big Ten
schools are expected to gain $44.5 million during the 2017 18 year, the first year of a new television
deal (the two schools that are not projecting these numbers are Maryland and Rutgers which just
officially joined the conference this past summer and can not receive their full share until 2020 21).
Along with their Big Ten network deal, the conference also has a 10 year TV rights deal with ESPN
worth close to $1 billion that will be expiring in 2016 2017. While negotiations have begun to renew

Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of
themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen
hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage
during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view,
the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s
Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women
had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in
the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that
in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her
husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her
prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before
the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the
community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one
husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times
(Marcotte). The Wife of Bath wants to have equality as a female in the social aspects of her marriage.

Salmonella Typhimurium Outbreak Analysis
In the fall of 1984 in The Dalles, Oregon there was a Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak that caused
gastroenteritis in a total of 751 people. There were two waves of the outbreak, the first being
September 9th through the 18th and the second was September 19th through October 10th. An
investigation of the outbreak determined that the origin of the outbreak was from 10 different
restaurants and eating at their salad bars. During the epidemiological investigation, no water supply,
single food item, or supplier or food distributor was common to all the affected restaurants. A later
criminal investigation determined that the outbreak was intentionally caused by members of a
religious commune contaminating the restaurant salad bars. In the wake of the attacks on September
11, 2001 and the anthrax outbreaks that occurred in the United States, a method needed to be
developed to determine if an outbreak was natural or intentionally released. The open or covert use of
pathogens and toxins as biological warfare agents can no longer be ruled out (Grunow Finke, 2002,
pg. 510). The events that occurred in The Dalles, Oregon further show that such a procedure needed to
be developed. In 2002 R. Grunow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

any terrorist attack, is to not get caught doing so. Therefore, I believe that these two criteria should be

The Eggs of the World Boiled Down
The Eggs of the World boiled down In The Eggs of the World, Toshio Mori writes about 3 men
meeting, one rich, one a poor drunkard, and the narrator. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this
story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story
gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance
between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also
gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed
observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a
narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364).
This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by
a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be
expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are
affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the
inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous
encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just
drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of
drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever
when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting
the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus
on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could
almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. The things that the
author notices are things that other

Nigeria and Angola are both West African countries plagued by the resource curse. The countries are

producer. In 2014, it was reported that Nigeria was responsible for producing 2.4 million barrels of oil

Neither country has strong state institutions so political progress and economic development become
difficult. A lack of state institutions lowers the standard of living and impedes civil rights. Corruption
is also a symptom of missing institutions (McMillan 156). Corruption is a major obstacle in Nigeria
and Angola which is influenced by oil money. In both cases there is a bloc of corrupt powerful elites ...
while a large percentage of the population [continues] to live below poverty lines (Ajayi 1). The
money that is generated from oil falls into the hands of elites which directly impacts the country s
ability to democratize. In Nigeria, oil revenues have been the primary lubricant in making democracy
work (O Neil, Fields, and Share 760). Politicians have rigged elections by promising money and
positions of power to citizens to guarantee votes. This is problematic because Nigerians are not having
their voices heard. They are being bribed with money and power to vote for a politician, which is
enticing in a country where the citizens live below the poverty line. This not only hinders democracy,
but is a breeding ground for violence (O Neil, Fields, and Share). In Angola, the government aims to
keep corruption and other abuses of power a secret from Angolans. The state owns most newspapers

Carl Jung s Major Accomplishments
The purpose of this paper is to look into the life and accomplishments of a well known psychoanalyst,
Carl Gustav Jung. Jung s work brought forth several new concepts in psychology. While alive, his
work influenced colleagues and continued to influence the future of psychology after his death. Carl
Jung was born in Kesswil, Switzerland on July 26, 1875 and moved to Laufen shortly after (Jung,
1971; Jung, 1989, p. 6). Jung (1989) discusses a night where his father walked back and forth with
him in his arms, singing, while he had a fever and could not go to sleep. He found out later that he had
eczema and believed that this caused marital problems between his parents. Jung speculated that his
mother s hospitalization, for many months, was the result of the parent s martial problems. Jung s aunt

biased because its validity is stuck in what he calls the neurotic states of the mind (p. 135). Jung
argued that one of Freud s biggest mistakes was to not include philosophy and its criticism in his

Freud on ego. He explains that ego does house our fears, but argues that this is only the case if it does
not go back to the father and mother archetypes (p. 132, 134 135, 141). The relationship between Jung

Programme: International Marketing
Introduction
This essay will attempt to describe and explain how organizations use branding theory and practice to
help develop, establish and maintain their positions in both existing and potential markets. To do so it
will be structured into four chapters that will be supported by examples:
1. What is a brand and why they matter.
2. How to develop a brand.
3. How to establish and maintain a brand.
4. How to develop establish and maintain brands in existing and potential markets.
What is a brand and why they matter
What is a brand? According to the American Marketing Association (AMA) a brand is a name, term,
sign, symbol, or design, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods and services of one
seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competition (AMA, 2004). These
identifiable elements are called brand elements.
According to Robert Scott, author of Fighting the brand wars, a brand is any name, logo, phrase, or
slogan that sticks with the public and evokes a particular product or service (Scott, 2002).
Brands evolve and over time they have become part of our everyday life and have left the traditional
notion of being what represented a company or product name. From the 1366 Stella Artois logo that is
still being used to the 2004 action camera GoPro that uses its customers as branding ambassadors all

Chinese and Filipina women were lured into these sexual schemes by not just deceit, but by force as

Why I Support For The Secdef
The unwritten rule when partaking in discussions professionally is to avoid matters that cover religion
and politics. Many people care very deeply about religion and/or politics, and many factors have
contributed to these passionate opinions. The bottom line is when talking about these topics, focus and
effort are diverted from what is most important in a professional environment. In the military, the
same dynamic can and has been observed in units across the country. The military is a melting pot of
culture, religion, and political opinions with individuals who care deeply about them. Presidential
campaigns summate most of these topics in one discussion. Most conversations start with, Who do
you support and why? . The why, is where most heated debates begin. Today, more pressure than ever
has been placed on service members to comment on presidential campaigns. In addition, more
avenues to comment are now available. In my paper, I will explain why support for the SECDEF is
crucial to help service members remain focused and the united states military to function more
effectively without political influence. Social media is something almost every American citizen

How Did The North American Colonists Have Taxes Justified
North American colonists chose to revolt against the king to get rid of unfair taxes and unjust
treatment of its citizens. When the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights were made, the developers
made sure that there was taxation with representation, and no cruel and unusual punishment. Every
time there is a war, money must be raised to maintain it. However, unlike the king, taxes were made
without proper reason and proof made it harder for colonists to understand why the king s actions
were justified. During the Stamp Act of 1765, Britian declared that all documents (newspapers, books,
court documents, etc.) must be stamp and that a stamp purchase must be required to help finance the
stationing of British troops throughout North America.1 American colonists were not recognized in
the House of Commons, and claimed that Britain had no reason to impose taxes solely based on
making profit on regulating trade.2 The colonists allegiance was still to Britain, but they later decide

Organic Farming Essay
Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a
reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the
Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple
centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began
seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also
happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones
today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the
agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for
how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the
United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that
industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial
farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more
difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we
harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present

Patients may also be hesitant to talk about the original event especially in the case of rape or sexual
abuse. General Practitioners (GPs) often are not well trained in this type of mental illness and are not
aware of treatment options. And many patients suffer from co morbidities. (Wright, 2013) One of the
biggest obstacles in treating PTSD is the high prevalence of co morbidities. Co morbidity is the
presence of two or more chronic diseases or conditions in a patient. A study conducted in Australia
found that at least half of the people with PTSD have moderate depression, while generalized anxiety
disorder was present in a 40% of men and 22% of women sufferers. (Wright, 2014). This study also
found a close link between PTSD patients and substance abuse; it was found that over 30% of people
who suffer from PTSD also suffer from substance abuse. (Wright, 2014) Co morbidities can make
treatment very difficult since it s not the PTSD alone that may need treatment; it s a series of issues.
For example, a patient with PTSD who also suffers from substance abuse needs two different kinds of
treatment. Multiple kinds of treatment may take more time and effort in order to get multiple
conditions under control. Ideally a patient needs to find a provider who can help with all his/her
mental health conditions and a treatment that addresses them holistically. In

Within the hippocampus, long term potentiation (LTP) results due to the increased activity between a
presynaptic and a postsynaptic neuron. The stimulation and subsequent depolarisation of a presynaptic
CA3 pyramidal neuron results in the opening of voltage gated calcium channels (VGCC). Thus, an
influx in Ca2+ occurs, and glutamate vesicles are fused via synaptotagmin. The fusing of these
vesicles allows the release of glutamate, a neurotransmitter which will bind to AMPA receptors and
induce the influx of Na+ into the postsynaptic CA1 pyramidal neuron. This will result in the
depolarisation of the postsynaptic neuron, which is one of the requirements for the opening and

The test groups that wrote out the content 10x showed a significant increase in short term memory
versus test groups that utilised no writing. These results indicate that repetition increases neural
activity and thereby increases the levels of short term synaptic plasticity (STP). The effects of STP can
last between a few millisecond to minutes, whilst long term synaptic plasticity can last from minutes
to years (Pinar et al., 2017). The short term memory results are therefore not a strong indicator of the
strength of LTP occurring. In order to analyse this, long term memory was measured three weeks later.
The test group that viewed a relatable movie before writing out the content 10x, displayed a
significantly higher long term memory recall, and therefore showed an increase in LTP. Students
within the other groups showed lower levels of LTP which may have being caused by the LTD.
LTD is the opposing mechanism of LTP, resulting in a decreased synaptic strength and therefore
eliminating the formation of the memory. It occurs when Ca2+ flows through a voltage gated calcium
channels within the postsynaptic neuron, resulting in an alternative Ca2+ encoding. This different
encoding activates a protein phosphatase which induces a protein cascade that will dephosphorylate
and remove APMA receptors from the neural membrane. This deregulation of AMPA receptors
weakens the neural synapse and thereby results in the elimination of the

Human Vs Robotic Space Missions Essay
Human versus Robotic Space Missions Debate Support sending exclusively robotic missions
Supporting Statements: 1. Nowadays, with the advancing technologies, robots can perform like
humans. Robots can see , hear , touch and smell like humans. Also, robots can think like humans,
including solving problems, studying new things and adapting to new environments. (American
Ceramic Society Bulletin 5) Robots, such as rovers, landers and orbiters have done almost all the
recent space explorations in the solar system. And they gained a big success in exploring every planet
in the solar system and many of their moos. (Mann 1) 2. Robots can complete tasks impossible,
dangerous or hard for humans, especially in space missions. For example, ... Show more content on

4. Sending exclusively robots to space missions is cheaper than sending humans. Human spaceflight is
really expensive and scientific goals can be more efficiently completed by robotic space crafts.
Sending an astronaut to space costs about $1.7 billion but sending a robotic space craft costs about
$500 million. (Mann 1) 5. Advancing robotic techniques have allowed the remote emplacement of
instruments on planets or moons. In this way, telepresence can be realized to instruct robots remotely.
Telepresence, which is the remote projection of human abilities into a machine, can permit field study
on space without the danger and logistical problems associated with human spaceflight. With this
technology, robots can reproduce the movements of a human operator on Earth. Humans don t need to
physically present in space missions, instead, we can just give robots orders using telepresence. (Paul
D 1) Discussion refuting arguments made by the opposing side: 1. Robots don t have the human
ability to make quick decisions in response to changing or new conditions. They can only wait for
time delayed instructions from Earth. They can only handle existing problems but can t solve
problems they meet for the first time. Human are more mobile than current robot explorers. (Mann 1)
Refute: The machines have been designed to learn from each other and past experiences, and had been
trained to act like humans. When they meet the problems new for them, they can look for

Thucydides Retelling Of The Peloponnesian War
In ancient Greek times, it was typical for all written texts to focus on the Greek Gods and their
omnipotence. Thucydides retelling of the Peloponnesian War is considered a secular text mainly due
to the fact that the work was one of the first of its time period to not put any emphasis on the Gods.
Many believe that the work s lack of religious referencing is what makes it secular; however, under
further examination, the reason the text does not discuss Gods could be due to the overall topic and
theme of the book. Since Thucydides is based primarily on the history of the Peloponnesian War, the
lack of referencing to the Gods may have been unintentional on Thucydides part. The Old Testament,
in opposition to Thucydides as a secular text, was written for religious purposes. Since the Old
Testament is predominantly composed of religious prophecies, and its purpose is utilized in different
religions, it is considered a religious work.
Thucydides wrote his work as a historical and objective work for readers to learn about the
Peloponnesian War. The lesson that readers are intended to learn from this work is that we must learn
from our past mistakes, such as going to war for no logical reasons. Thucydides may not have
incorporated any Gods into his work because of the fact that the purpose behind his objective work
was to teach future generations of mankind s faults of creating this war. Thucydides wrote this as he
first handedly observed the Peloponnesian War in Greece and

  • 2. While Modern Film Productions Have Lost The Ambitious... While modern film productions have lost the ambitious classicism of early cinema, the idea to view cinematography itself as a self governing construction of thinking has been carved into the history of continental philosophy. Due to the variety of material and conjecture, film manipulates the four dimensional reality in which we live our everyday lives in. From A quoi pensent les films?, Jacques Aumont, a French academic writer on film theory, states that film has the power of thinking in order to express that the art form has the ability to release us from the restriction of our realistic judgements and radical perceptions, producing a poetic and dreamlike reality. Film philosophers that were specifically intrigued in the mechanics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, declines this model theory by communicating that the cinematic adventure actively perceive time and movement all in one platform, his philosophy was the variance of material and spiritual actuality. In a counter exploration of Benjamin s ideals, when one looks at a clock they view purely different placements and positions of the clocks hands, but this act entails no specific spiritual connection to the viewer. The same logic of this situation compares to the example from Benjamin s. Only the single audience s encounter can determine the product. Exploring this theory, French philosopher Deleuze, who wrote on the philosophy of literature, film, and fine art, counters Benjamin s statement arguing that our mind does not need to put together the arbitrary components that is required to construct a piece but rather we can receive the information as a whole. In his two most popular books on cinema, Deleuze argues that because of Image Mouvement (Cinéma I) and Image Temps (Cinéma II), Deleuze moves to say films do not think with plain set images like paintings, which produce no mechanics to personify thought, but with movement images and time images. Movement images are explained as a scene of action the creates a reaction, producing the cycle of similar scenes. Time images are defined by Deleuze as a scene that is created entirely on thought. • 3. Software Design Of A Computer Based System A key requirement of the software design of a computer based system is to transform basic requirements into an architecture that describes the software s top level structure and identifies its components. Accomplishment of this requirement is through architectural design, providing a blueprint for developing the framework of the software (Mattsson, Lundell, Lings, Fitzgerald, 2009). The establishment of the framework involves examining the software requirements document and designing a model for providing necessary implementation details. The details specify components of the system along with all inputs, outputs, functions, and the interactions between the components. This paper includes a description of the architectural design of a computer based system that has transform characteristics, and includes a data flow diagram with process narrative, and evaluation of the architectural design. Further, an assessment of the structuring requirements associated with software architecture is included. Architectural Design Structure An architectural design performs key functions, and is of crucial importance in software engineering during the phase of software development where the essential requirements of reliability, cost, and performance are determined. Architectural design provides the definition of the abstraction level at which the software design specifies both the functional and performance behaviors of the system, and the guidelines for enhancing the system by ... Chris Young and Dee Daffodil have very similar ideas when it comes to a broken heart, yet are formatted in two completely different ways, with one being a poem, and the other being a song. The poem To the Memory of Love by Dee Daffodil is similar to the song Think of You by Chris Young when it comes to using poetic devices, making them equal, yet different. • 6. A Review Of Tanf Assistance Programs A Review of the TANF Cash Assistance Programs Roughly 20% of the United States children are living in families suffering from poverty (National Center for Education Statistics, 2015). According to Yeung, Linver and Brooks Gunn (2002); Pungello et al., (2010); and Evans (2004), economic hardships increase the likelihood of maladaptive behaviors while decreasing school performance and poor cognitive behavioral development. (1861 1879; 410 426; 77 92). To prevent this, lawmakers were spurred into creating public policy to actively reduce the rate of childhood poverty along with associated risk factors as well as foster economic independency in families apart from the welfare system. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Act, TANF, was created out of a block grant from PRWORA. TANF replaced two programs: the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training program JOBS and the Aid to Families with Dependent Children AFDC program that provided assistance to mothers and children. Then president, Bill Clinton remarked that the creation of this act would [end] welfare as we know it (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 2015). AFDC had been criticized for providing assistance to non working mothers and incentives for children out of marriage. As such, program s design was tailored to fill the needs of poor families through cash assistance so that they would be able to obtain economic self sufficiency (Abt, 2001). • 7. Summary Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young, hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos, readers can view both short stories in a new criticism lense and juxtapose two societies that feature a suffering aspect in each story. In Ray Bradbury s short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , the protagonist is the only house left standing in Allendale, California after a nuclear explosion. However, the protagonist is not an average house. The house is technologically programmed to carry out all of the tasks and duties of an ordinary family. Although the family that lived in the house before the explosion are no longer present, the house carries out its scheduled routine. At the beginning of the story, Bradbury explains that memory tapes glided and chimed out the passing time while no doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels . The house has become abandoned, yet, it continues to exercise its daily functions. Ray Bradbury also gives life to the house in a way that it seems to be a human. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today... is a prime example of the way Bradbury brings life to the empty house. Another example of personification that Bradbury uses in his short story is, It quivered at each sound, the house did. If a sparrow brushed a window, the shade snapped up. The house is depicted to have a mind of its own. In August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains, the house continues to function even though the family and residents of the town has suffered from the nuclear explosion. The level of language used by different characters should differ to depict the social stands of the characters (Adade Yeboah, Ahenkora, Amankwa, 2012 pg. 1). Additionally, he focuses on meaningful language reflected throughout the entire play, and stresses that tragedy must be taken seriously. Aristotle presents that there is a complex relationship between tragedy and emotions. For him, it is expressed through pity and fear. Konstan argues: The idea that the object of pity does not deserve his fate is present in the definition Aristotle offers in the Rhetoric; in the Poetics, however, Aristotle exploits the concept of similarity in order to explain the terror that tragedy induces. If the characters on stage are enough like ourselves the context indicates that the sense is morally similar then we will experience their fear as our own. (Konstan, 1999, pg. 1) Unquestionably, the audience reacts to the sequence of events in the play; feeling pity for Oedipus about his fate and the predicament he faces. Aristotle praises a brilliant arrangement that makes the play more attractive and creates higher expectations: The putting together of the separate actions is very crucial. The beauty of the plot therefore lies in the arrangements which must have magnitude and not be a matter of chance. Indeed, the subtle manipulation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Stand and Deliver, we see the same event happen in a scene when Jaime Escalante proposes teaching calculus to his students during a board meeting. Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens Angelina Almanzar ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel Professor Elizabeth Weybright 27 June 2016 Utilitarianism in Hard Times During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking, choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly, through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class. Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web (www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Although they adamantly strive to be independent and liberated individuals, women are not liberated at all because [they] talk about it too much (Hansberry 64). Women themselves divulge their own weakness because they formulate a false notion of autonomy. Their error is that they prefer a feeling of liberation rather than liberation itself. Despite being subject to men s mistreatment and life s suffering, a woman will sacrifice and do anything for her family (Hansberry 75). Men have at many times verbally abused women and suppressed their opinions, but that does not impede women from sacrificing everything for the people they love. Women are portrayed positively because they display strength and perseverance. In contrast, Willy Loman considers his wife a burden when he expresses the idea that the woman has suffered (Miller 99). Women are now portrayed negatively because they are described as weak and fragile. This portrayal is unjustified because Willy Loman has had more lamentations while Linda Loman has defended his social standing. Although providing a portrayal for women is largely a subjective evaluation, one cannot deny a woman s character and sacrifices. Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William Shakespeare. • 24. Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view, the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times (Marcotte). There were two waves of the outbreak, the first being September 9th through the 18th and the second was September 19th through October 10th. An investigation of the outbreak determined that the origin of the outbreak was from 10 different restaurants and eating at their salad bars. During the epidemiological investigation, no water supply, single food item, or supplier or food distributor was common to all the affected restaurants. A later criminal investigation determined that the outbreak was intentionally caused by members of a religious commune contaminating the restaurant salad bars. In the wake of the attacks on September 11, 2001 and the anthrax outbreaks that occurred in the United States, a method needed to be developed to determine if an outbreak was natural or intentionally released. The open or covert use of pathogens and toxins as biological warfare agents can no longer be ruled out (Grunow Finke, 2002, pg. 510). In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. According to the American Marketing Association (AMA) a brand is a name, term, sign, symbol, or design, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competition (AMA, 2004). These identifiable elements are called brand elements. According to Robert Scott, author of Fighting the brand wars, a brand is any name, logo, phrase, or slogan that sticks with the public and evokes a particular product or service (Scott, 2002). • 39. Short-Term Synthesis Within the hippocampus, long term potentiation (LTP) results due to the increased activity between a presynaptic and a postsynaptic neuron. The stimulation and subsequent depolarisation of a presynaptic CA3 pyramidal neuron results in the opening of voltage gated calcium channels (VGCC). Thus, an influx in Ca2+ occurs, and glutamate vesicles are fused via synaptotagmin. The fusing of these vesicles allows the release of glutamate, a neurotransmitter which will bind to AMPA receptors and induce the influx of Na+ into the postsynaptic CA1 pyramidal neuron. This will result in the depolarisation of the postsynaptic neuron, which is one of the requirements for the opening and consequent induction of Ca2+ through the NMDA receptor. Through a cascade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The test groups that wrote out the content 10x showed a significant increase in short term memory versus test groups that utilised no writing. These results indicate that repetition increases neural activity and thereby increases the levels of short term synaptic plasticity (STP). The effects of STP can last between a few millisecond to minutes, whilst long term synaptic plasticity can last from minutes to years (Pinar et al., 2017). The short term memory results are therefore not a strong indicator of the strength of LTP occurring. In order to analyse this, long term memory was measured three weeks later. The test group that viewed a relatable movie before writing out the content 10x, displayed a significantly higher long term memory recall, and therefore showed an increase in LTP. Students within the other groups showed lower levels of LTP which may have being caused by the LTD. LTD is the opposing mechanism of LTP, resulting in a decreased synaptic strength and therefore eliminating the formation of the memory. It occurs when Ca2+ flows through a voltage gated calcium channels within the postsynaptic neuron, resulting in an alternative Ca2+ encoding. This different encoding activates a protein phosphatase which induces a protein cascade that will dephosphorylate and remove APMA receptors from the neural membrane. • 41. Human Vs Robotic Space Missions Essay Human versus Robotic Space Missions Debate Support sending exclusively robotic missions Supporting Statements: 1. Nowadays, with the advancing technologies, robots can perform like humans. Robots can see , hear , touch and smell like humans. Also, robots can think like humans, including solving problems, studying new things and adapting to new environments. (American Ceramic Society Bulletin 5) Robots, such as rovers, landers and orbiters have done almost all the recent space explorations in the solar system. And they gained a big success in exploring every planet in the solar system and many of their moos. (Mann 1) 2. Robots can complete tasks impossible, dangerous or hard for humans, especially in space missions. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 4. Sending exclusively robots to space missions is cheaper than sending humans. Human spaceflight is really expensive and scientific goals can be more efficiently completed by robotic space crafts. Sending an astronaut to space costs about $1.7 billion but sending a robotic space craft costs about $500 million. (Mann 1) 5. Advancing robotic techniques have allowed the remote emplacement of instruments on planets or moons. In this way, telepresence can be realized to instruct robots remotely. Telepresence, which is the remote projection of human abilities into a machine, can permit field study on space without the danger and logistical problems associated with human spaceflight. With this technology, robots can reproduce the movements of a human operator on Earth. Humans don t need to physically present in space missions, instead, we can just give robots orders using telepresence. (Paul D 1) Discussion refuting arguments made by the opposing side: 1. Robots don t have the human ability to make quick decisions in response to changing or new conditions. They can only wait for time delayed instructions from Earth. They can only handle existing problems but can t solve problems they meet for the first time. Human are more mobile than current robot explorers. (Mann 1) Refute: The machines have been designed to learn from each other and past experiences, and had been trained to act like humans. When they meet the problems new for them, they can look for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Thucydides Retelling Of The Peloponnesian War In ancient Greek times, it was typical for all written texts to focus on the Greek Gods and their omnipotence. Thucydides retelling of the Peloponnesian War is considered a secular text mainly due to the fact that the work was one of the first of its time period to not put any emphasis on the Gods. Many believe that the work s lack of religious referencing is what makes it secular; however, under further examination, the reason the text does not discuss Gods could be due to the overall topic and theme of the book. Since Thucydides is based primarily on the history of the Peloponnesian War, the lack of referencing to the Gods may have been unintentional on Thucydides part. The Old Testament, in opposition to Thucydides as a secular text, was written for religious purposes. Since the Old Testament is predominantly composed of religious prophecies, and its purpose is utilized in different religions, it is considered a religious work. Thucydides wrote his work as a historical and objective work for readers to learn about the Peloponnesian War. The lesson that readers are intended to learn from this work is that we must learn from our past mistakes, such as going to war for no logical reasons. Thucydides may not have incorporated any Gods into his work because of the fact that the purpose behind his objective work was to teach future generations of mankind s faults of creating this war. Thucydides wrote this as he first handedly observed the Peloponnesian War in Greece and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
