12 Angry Men Character Analysis
In the movie Twelve Angry Men, Henry Fonda plays a character known as jury member number eight,
otherwise also known as Mr. Davis. Henry Fonda s role in the movie for many, may be thought of as
the most important character in the entire movie. Though this statement may be true, the movie also
involves eleven other characters who have huge contributions to the story line. Throughout the movie,
the audience watches twelve jury members discuss the alleged murder trial for an eighteen year old
boy who is being accused of murdering his father. All men, but one agree that the boy is guilty. The
movie 12 Angry Men may cause some people to question their own morals and beliefs, however the
overall outcome of the movie truly shows the importance of optimism, honesty, and standing up for
what you think is right. Henry Fonda plays the role of jury member number eight, also known as Mr.
Davis.
This character that Henry Fonda plays believes that the boy on trial is not guilty. When questioned by
the other eleven men, Mr. Fonda s character never argued, yelled, accused, or even acted as if he was
right. He remained very optimistic and open minded throughout the entire movie. These qualities his
character plays can be things some people can apply in their own lives and use in everyday situations.
The next character that many people might think of as extremely important would be jury member
number five. This character is important because he relates to the eighteen year old

St. Thomas Aquinas Influence On Religion
Both in the times of St. Thomas Aquinas and in our times, there are many other religions. To avoid an
everlasting war many chose to accept those of the different religions. The Catholic Church teaches that
it is the true Church and that salvation cannot be found outside of the Catholic Church (Catechism of
the Catholic Church, 816). When St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of unbelievers he speaks of those who
are not Catholic. Even though Aquinas is addressing Catholics, his views can be used today to address
other denominations of Christianity that did not exist in his time. Unbelievers are very different from
heretics. While the Church tends to treat unbelievers the same as they have for many years, it no
longer treats heretics in the way they once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sharing of many of these opposing views allows for questions to arise of who could possibly be
excommunicated. In the twenty first century most, excommunications have occurred due to an
individual s stance on the topics of abortion, homosexual marriage, or for the ordination of female
priest. Four prominent figures in today s time have used social media to convey their opinions and
their opinions have had many people calling for their excommunications. Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden,
and Tim Kaine are all public speakers who have exclaimed views different from Church teachings
while claiming to be Catholic. These views can include abortion, contraception, homosexual marriage,
the ordination of women priest, of many other issues. Fr. James Martin is also known for his views
that oppose the Catholic Church. Fr. James Martin has often spoken out and interpreted the Bible in
ways many would call heretical or he has referred to the Holy Spirit with feminine pronouns. Fr.
Martin has also promoted transgenderism in children and the lack of chastity in same sex relationships
(The Vortex). These four Catholics have used social media as an outlet to oppose the Catholic Church
and through undermining them, they have been viewed as heretics by many. Their use of social media
has made it even more dangerous to the souls of others because their heresy is quickly spread and

The Controversy Over Internet Censorship
Thesis: There has been much debate about the commonwealth s and the Australian communications
and media authority s campaign to give the Internet censorship that is not required. For reasons such
as freedom to talk about ideas, to talking to people around the world. In china there are estimated to be
around 30 thousand police surfing the web, covering up websites the government does not want you
looking up. Things such as just searching up human rights will bring you to a page that says you
cannot access, and this is mainly the cause of communism.
Explaining my topic:
Today most people have the right to read whatever they want and also to write whatever they want, all
with little to no law enforcement. So why should the Internet be anything other? The Internet should
be a free place that allows people to look up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is highly controversial whether or not we should implement Internet censorship as a result of this
law. Human rights are what makes us human beings, and for these laws to be in place Internet
censorship should not be implemented to Australian Internet. All evidence points towards Internet
censorship not working listening learning and educating all come into play when human right laws
step in, and to put censorship over human rights is clearly breaking their own law. Human rights
commissions, as they are evolving, are an attack on our fundamental freedoms and the basic existence
of a democratic society... It is in fact totalitarianism. I find this is very scary stuff . (Stephen

Russell On Truth
Bertrand Russell discussed certain problems he found with philosophy. Russell was concerned about
how much did we really know. There is the stuff we know with our mind when we have a particular
idea, and stuff we know through actually experiencing it which would justify it. But how do we know
if it is real, or even there, for that matter? Russell says, For if we cannot be sure of the independent
existence of object, we cannot be sure of the independent existence of other people s bodies, and
therefore still less of other peoples minds, since we have no grounds for believing in their minds
except such as are derived from observing their bodies (Russell, 47). How can Farmer Brown be sure
that the dairyman just didn t have an idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings us to knowledge of things. Russell believed that all of our knowledge, both knowledge of
things and knowledge of truths, rest upon acquaintance as its foundation. It is therefore important to
consider what kinds of things there are which we have acquaintance (Russell, 57). You know stuff
through acquaintance by directly experiencing it and you know stuff through description from hearing
what other have told you from there direct experiences. William James on the other hand would have
had different views than Russell in some aspects. James believed that you needed more than just an
idea to make something true, it needed power. James believes that truth is dynamic rather than static.
James feels truth happens when everything holds together, when what you believe actually fits in with
other things you also believe. While at the same time, James believed something is false when it doesn
t fit in with the systems of your beliefs. James said, The most violent revolutions in an individual s
beliefs leave most of his old order standing. Time and space, cause and effect, nature and history, and
one s biography remain untouched. New truth is always a go between, a smoother over of transitions.
It marries old opinion to new fact so as ever to show a minimum of jolt, a maximum of continuity
(James, 124). Truth is a web where each belief contributes to support our other beliefs. James would

Camelot Caper Short Story
The Camelot Caper written by Elizabeth Peters in 2012, is a nonfiction story about a young American
woman who goes to England to meet her grandfather and return an old family heirloom. Jessica soon
realizes that returning the ring would be more dangerous and more of an adventure than she ever
thought, when she is followed by two men who try to steal the ring. While escaping from the two men
that were chasing her, she discovered a new friend and lover in David. David is the next most
important character of this story because he is the hero of the story. He gets beaten up multiple times,
climbs through miles of rocky and swampy terrain, makes elaborate plans for escape, ideas to capture
the pursuers, and he is shot in the shoulder, all because he is in love with Jessica. His mouth curved up
and he gave her a quick hard kiss (Peters, pg 215). As Jessica and David follow and are followed by
the two men, and she finally discovers that one of them is her cousin John and the other is one of his
friends named Frank who is helping with one of John s schemes. John is a smart, young man who used
a fake mustache to deceive Jessica and David, so that they would stay away from her grandfather long
enough until he died, and he takes Jessica and David through many adventures including chasing,
being chased, kidnaping and being shot at. Jessica and David visited various English cities, which
included: Salisbury, London, Stonehenge , and finally Cornwall, where her grandfather lived,

Seamless Editing In The Field Of Film Making
Film editing was the concept related with the process of film making. However as the developments
are taking in the field of technology; hence this concept has changed towards the use of digital
technology. The film editor works with the raw footage, selects the best shots and then combine them
into sequences to create a finished motion picture.
Film editing is defined an art that can be used in various ways. It can create sensually provocative
montages; help in bringing out the emotional truth in an actor s performance. Also it can be used for
telling of a story and also for creating illusions.
Editing is considered an important part of film making as it helps in creating the mood and theme
which is being thought of portraying in the eyes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of seamless editing was used because it was one of the first films to use more than one
scene. This was the first narrative film that audiences could see going somewhere and was very
successful amongst different audiences. This film became so successful because alongside using
traditional editing techniques; it included new techniques such as Parallel Editing, Minor Camera
Movement and Crosscutting.
Later editing was also made to add color to the movies through the process of colorization. Also
specific techniques like flashbacks, close up and parallel actions were given in the movies to arouse
specific reaction from the audience (Poland, 2007).
Theories of editing
Soviet montage theory is an approach to understand and create cinema that relies heavily upon editing.
This was based on the concept of montage which was idea that arises from the collision of
independent shots wherein each sequential element is perceived not next to the other, but on top of the
other.
The following montages were used during editing:
Metric where the editing follows a specific number of frames cutting to the next shot no matter what is
happening within the image. This montage is used to elicit emotional reactions in the

Blindness In King Lear Essay
The Shakespearean tragedy, King Lear, is a significant play that explores the concept of blindness
whilst communicating the importance of the theme for the characters King Lear and Earl of
Gloucester. Blindness is in literary terms is defined as the inability of the eye to see, however in
Shakespeare s play blindness is perceived to be a mental flaw that people possess and is the catalyst
for false decisions that eventually place the two characters into emotions of despair and regret. In the
play, Lear s self delusion and his inability to determine between right or wrong and genuine or fake,
leads him to a remorseful state. The prominent theme of blindness is explored throughout the play and

Gloucester s two sons; the legitimate and righteous Edgar and the illegitimate, disguised devil ,
Edmund, both whom Gloucester loves equally however due to his bastard son, he is blinded and
misunderstands Edgar. This act of blindness can be sighted in Act 1, Scene 2 as Gloucester is blinded
by Edmond who had given him a letter that he wrote himself, but presents in Edgar s perspective.
Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to
Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells
him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before
placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth
through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him
to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. Through the use of repetition whilst cursing Edgar, it
is evident that Gloucester has concluded that his legitimate son, Edgar, is the villain , without any
further investigation. He states, O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter! Abhorred villain!
Unnatural, detested, brutish villain! Worse than brutish! Go, sirrah, seek him. I ll appre hend him.
Abominable villain! Where is he? The repetitive use of villain , whilst Gloucester curses Edgar and
makes it clear that he has fallen into Edmond s deception. This also suggests Gloucester s gullibility,
which is his inability and mental flaw that Edmond deviously takes advantage of in seek of power.
The concept of blindness is explored in this scene between Gloucester and Edmund, making it evident
that placing trust in people can result in much suffering, which Shakespeare has

consumers experience may obviously be more valuable than any other tangible asset. The Ritz Carlton
realized how important this was, therefore, a team was assembled to research many of their day to day
processes (Heizer Render, 2014). Through their appraisal of methods, any issues were distinguished
and addressed with achievable pathways to pursue in order to positively change these actions. The
process is necessary in order to improve the customers experience. Again, benchmarks are necessary
in order to track the progression towards a positive end result.

This worksheet demonstrates another way I asked my students to construct knowledge; by examining
a document (in this case a difficult, non narrative poem) for its details, to try to sum those details to
meaning (comprehension) and to try to figure out how the student knew how to sum those details
(metacognition). While the practical, classroom end of this worksheet was a brainstorm regarding the
details of the poem and an increasingly specific investigation of the diversity of potential meanings in
the poem, by allowing my students to write before speaking to gather their thoughts and ideas before
even a spoken brainstorm I allowed each of my students to feel as though they had something to
contribute to the class and to the classes construction of a reading (or a series of readings!) of the
poem. Allowing students to chart the known, this activity ultimately allowed my students to make the
leap to charting a small section of ideas that were, before this activity, unknown. Before students can
trust each other enough to share their ideas and to construct knowledge with each other the teacher
must engage students in activities to foster classroom community. During Brown Summer High
School, my co teachers (Jen Fordyce and Jenny Morse) and I started each of our classes with what we
called an AGFA (an Attention Grabbing Focusing Activity) that had a twofold intent:

Acquisition Process Analysis
The acquisition process is a vital component of project management. The requirements to ensure
successful execution of a project must be logical and efficient. It requires rigorous planning and
constant improvement of the project plan in order to discover and address any potential issues that
may interrupt the final delivery. Applying proven acquisition processes and principles will aid Project
Managers in creating an environment for success. The level of detail needed during the refining
activity is contingent upon several factors, such as the size and complexity of the project, the proposed
timeframe and the risks associated with the project (Career Education Corporation, 2013). My project

The decision to choose a product or service from an external supplier or vendor is referred to as
outsourcing. The decision to outsource a product or service is a significant one, and the Project
Manager must take into consideration additional costs, changes to schedule, deliverables, and value.
Furthermore, there are also other decision making factors, such as the need for control over the
quality, proprietary technology, time constraints, and lack of expertise or limited capabilities of the
external supplier (Project Management Institute, 2013). From a financial and scheduling standpoint,
the decision is straightforward, as the success of the project is dependent on resources available
through outsourcing. Since the project is dependent on an outside entity, the Project Manager must
follow prudent measures to control the process. The first step in controlling the process is to determine
the appropriate acquisition process. One reliable process is known as Performance Based Acquisition
(PBA). Performance Based Acquisition (PBA) is a results oriented contracting method that focuses on
outputs, and is written so that payment or contract extension is based on measurable performance. The
main benefit of using PBA is to minimize costs, while improving vendor performance (NIGP, 2012). It
is paramount that diligent research and evaluation methods are used to ensure that the best available

How Are Biddy And Estella Alike
Will Layton A Contrast in Characters Throughout the book Great Expectations, Biddy and Estella are
contrasted with Pip. Through this, Dickens is able to show Pip s flaws and advantages throughout the
book. Biddy and Estella are complete opposites for the most part and many of their traits are complete
opposites of each other. For instance, Biddy is kind and nice to Pip, but Estella bullies Pip and tells
him that he is not good enough for her. Biddy is very plain and simple and as Pip describes her as
common. (Dickens p.100) On the other hand, Estella is described to be very beautiful and extravagant.
These descriptions would make them exact opposites however the comparison does not stop there. It
is also said that Biddy is very smart and intelligent, which plays a big role in her character

She teaches Pip everything that she knows and despite this he only uses her for what she has to offer

confidence in no one but Biddy; but, I told poor Biddy everything. Why it came natural to me to do so,
and why Biddy had a deep concern in everything I told her , I did not know then, though I think I
know now. (Dickens p.78) Another similarity with Pip and Biddy is that they are both Orphans
brought up by hand, this also puts them in the same class order however despite this Pip still tries to
get out of his low class no matter what and his drive for a little success is scary. This drive will almost
certainly be his downfall. Throughout the story Biddy and Estella are pretty much foils of each other

everywhere. Whether a Scandinavian is visiting and treats America as Scandinavia, leaving a child

in America a child should never be left unattended. It puts the child in harm s way, and there is lack of

Outsourcing the Processing of Sensitive Information
A current trend in business in the first world (United States and Western Europe) is for the service

Identity Negotiation Theory Paper
Identity negotiation theory is a theory that suggests that people are constantly negotiating who they are
to other people that they talk to, if even only subconsciously. Identity negotiation refers to the process
through which perceivers and targets come to agreements regarding their identities Swann (2014).
This essay analyzes self identity theory, based on the facts that the theory suggests, particularly how
people negotiate their feelings, respect for each other, and in many ways even their interests and
disinterests, then I will critique the theory in question. First, this essay will discuss how people
negotiate their feelings on a daily basis based off the theory in question. When one says hello or a
similar greeting to someone else the speaker is asking (if even somewhat subconsciously) how the
other person is feeling. Usually the other person will communicate back their feelings, which is
answered in a pretty simplistic manner. If the person that answers the greeting says that they are doing
well, then that means that they are in a good mood and are interested in driving the communication
further; if that same person says that they are doing bad then that means that they re not feeling well
today, but are still interested in furthering the conversation; and if a person doesn t answer the
question at all, then that means that that person is probably not ... Show more content on

No-Fault Divorce Pros And Cons
Marriage is a beautiful, life changing event that bonds two people together forever. However, together
forever isn t always the case for most couples. Marriages can fail for various reasons and divorces are
usually filed. Unfortunately, divorce is becoming more common and normal. When a couple becomes
unsatisfied in their marriage for whatever reason, they can file for a No fault divorce. In a No fault
divorce, either one spouse or both can file and does not have to prove any fault on account of the other
spouse. All the spouse needs to do is give any reason that the state honors for the divorce. When
considering a No fault divorce, it is important to first consider the pros and cons.
Pros of No Fault Divorce A No fault divorce can be beneficial in many ways such that the divorce
process is shorter, depending on the state s law of minimum required days of residence and less
expensive due to not having to deal with outrageous lawyer fees. A No fault divorce is also beneficial
because privacy is being respected. Spouses do not have to give reasons, point fault, or involve anyone
in their personal lives. No fault divorces have also shown less emotional stress and reduced incidents
of violence on children and spouses. Children play a big role in divorces. Seeing their parents split up

A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines
A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson,

human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The
story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was
an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white
people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the
novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this
lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated
man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school
that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his
community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity
is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards
his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his
people s advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel
that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel,

INTRODUCTION
Spectroscopy is used as a collective term for all the analytical techniques based on the interaction of
light and matter. Spectrophotometry is one of the branches of spectroscopy where we measure the
absorption of light by molecules that are in a gas or vapour state or dissolved molecules/ions (Tombs,
et.al, 1959). Spectroscopy is the use of electromagnetic radiation by a sample in order to identify
components of the sample (qualitative analysis) or to measure the amount of material in that sample
(quantitative analysis) (Tombs, et.al, 1959). Absorption is a process in which ... Show more content on

Charlotte Beers At Ogilvy And Mather Essay examples
BACKGROUND
Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group Plc in
1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega agency,
whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure
at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure
in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry.
ANALYSIS
The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core
level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding.
Charismatic founder David Ogilvy s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Ogilvy s chronic failure to institute systems for managing collaboration across regions
contributed to a general lack of financial discipline, lack of focus on cost, and lack of structured
decision making that had cumulative negative effects on the company. As a result, Ogilvy s
competitive advantage as the most local of the internationals, the most international of the locals was
undermined by competitors consistently lower costs.
Compounding Ogilvy s problems was the perception that media advertising was a mere commodity,
leading bargain hunting clients fled to new, lower cost boutique creative shops. Ultimately, despite its
consistent 15% up market performance, and the success of the independent subsidiary Ogilvy Direct,
Ogilvy lost over $100 million in advertising contracts from longtime clients including Unilever, Shell,
Seagram s, Nutrasweet, Campbell, Roy Rogers and American Express. Its net income actually
decreased by 2.8% in 1991.
Clearly, beleaguered Ogilvy s new CEO needed to prevent further decline by instituting changes that
were long overdue:
1. Redefine the corporate vision based on Brand Stewardship;
2. Modify the organizational structure to facilitate collaboration among the company s various
regional and local offices and central office; and
3. Resolve the centralization vs. localization issue more definitively, in terms of authority and
compensation. OBSTACLES TO CHANGE Beers

Diocletian s inauguration as emperor in 284 A.D. managed to temporarily end the anarchy and
reestablish peace and order in the Roman Empire, his unprecedented retirement as emperor 21 years

Eventually, only two Roman generals, Constantine and Maxentius respectively, were left fighting for

How To Teach Literacy
When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things this
one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but it has
recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as well.
For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and siblings
and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an individual,
introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place in the form of
reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not teach the child how to
read.

How is Apple Cider Vinegar made?
Apple cider vinegar is obtained by the fermentation of apple cider or apple must which is made from
crushed organic apples. Just for your information, fermentation means an act of conversion. Organic
apples have some kind of bacteria and yeast on their skins. So when they are crushed, you get pure
apple juice with a mixture of bacteria and yeast.
After which you leave it to mature for a while. During this process, sugar in the apple cider is broken
down by yeast and bacteria which turns into alcohol. It s more like a brewing process which
eventually turns into vinegar after a second fermentation.
If you don t have all the time or resources to make one at home, you can easily purchase ACV from
any departmental stores. First of all, make sure you get the organic ACV with the labels saying With
the Mother with an ideal acidity (pH) level of five to seven. This means that it is in raw and pure form

A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay
A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books
Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is
usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code
heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could
have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented,
and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea
or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it
were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would probably not have transpired as

Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than
sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero.
Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s
disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause
whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills
the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems
that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very
dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not
escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his
growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission,
he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz
down by not doing what he was sent to do.
At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces
Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his
misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out
without a fight. By

What Does Wonder Woman Symbolize Feminism
Wonder Woman has a close connection with feminism. In the era when most superheroes are play and
direct by male actors and producers, the production of Wonder Woman is a call for women s power
(Munford, 2014, Pg. 3). She is a unique hero who serves not only as a hero for all audiences but a hero
especially for the women to satisfy their need on the equalization in power and the establishment of
independence from men (Pg. 4 5). Wonder Woman is the idealize icon for women, and of course for
men, to worship and follow. Moving on, the representations of Wonder Woman s physical abilities and
mental well being in the movies can be explored in detail to show how Wonder Woman symbolizes

scenes in the movie are the Amazon Island scenes. In these scenes, Wonder Woman leaves her
peaceful homeland to enter the unknown world and face the brutal war. The choice Wonder Woman
makes is what gives her a chance to transform from Princess Diana of Themyscira to Wonder Woman
of America. The transformation Wonder Woman experienced matches feminism theory about the
transformation of private to public for women (Snyder, 2008, Pg.175). The transformations Wonder
Woman goes through indicates that women should not be restrict to stay at the private home but can

Absolutely no software cost:
Computer requires both the hardware and software for its smooth functioning. The computer software
costs more than the hardware, therefore, many users have been deprived of buying it. Instead, they
resort to use the illegal version of the software. This does not give them any legal right to own,
distribute or use the product in the open environment.
2. No virus attacks:
We often complain of many viruses on our computer, this causes the computer to be formatted at least
once a month. Besides this, we are constantly targeted by the spammers. This is primarily due to, the
90% of the computer users highly depend on the commercial softwares for their daily activities. Only
the 10 % of the users depend on the open source applications. Therefore, all the spammers and viruses

Thus, there will always be a less scope for hackers for targeting the open source applications.
Let us take an example from Microsoft, every one of us uses the Windows as our preferred operating
system. We constantly receive warnings from spammers, viruses and other notifications about the
problems with our illegal versions of Windows. During such occasions, we can neither contact the

Minds, Brains, and Science by John R. Searle
Functionalism remains, to this day, one of the most influential theories of the mind. While many facets
of functionalism has been tested throughout the century, one of the more interesting questions came in
the form of computers. Similarly to a human brain, could computers also think? This idea was
explored by John R. Searle, in his book titled, Minds, Brains, and Science. The author is a renowned
American philosopher, particularly in the philosophy of language and mind, and is currently teaching
at the University of California, in Berkeley ( John R. Searle, 2014). Searle earned his Ph.D. in
philosophy at Oxford, and has made several contributions to his field on topics, such as consciousness,
artificial intelligence, and the problem of free will ( John R. Searle, 2014). His Chinese Room
experiment is known as one of the main critiques to the concept of artificial intelligence. In Searle s
book, Searle describes his thought process into this experiment during the second chapter, titled Can
Computers Think? Searle s purpose of this chapter in the book is to explain his perspective on the idea
that digital computers will never develop the capability to form thought processes, and that a concept
such as artificial intelligence could never exist, because our mental states exist in a biological manner.
He utilizes his Chinese Room argument to aid in the development of his objectives.

The Importance Of Owning Property With Great Historic And...
Many questions arise regarding the decision of owning property with great historic and economic
value. In the artistic world of museums, there has always been a craving to own the most valuable
antiquities created by human kind. The biggest battle of antiquities relies on the Elgin Marbles, which
were once part of the Parthenon, a magnificent creation of Athenians to worship Athena The Goddess
of War (British Museum web npg). This temple stands atop the Acropolis, on the site of another lost
temple to Athens patron goddess. Little is known about this first structure except that it was still under
construction in 480 B.C. when Persian forces sacked the city and demolished the Acropolis. The
Parthenon is very famous, and tourists from all over the world visit this temple to contemplate the
talent of past generations. In present times, we have Greece, which claims that the Elgin Marbles
should be repatriated; on the other hand we have Britain, which currently possesses the Elgin Marbles
displayed in the British Museum. The British Museum acquired these sculptures thanks to Lord Elgin,
a British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Lord Elgin was passionate about the ancient Greek art.
Between 1801 1805 he removed about half of the remaining sculptures back to Britain (BM web npg).

The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying to
supplement the education that was denied to them as children.
However, as illustrated by eighteenth century French theologian and moralist, Jacques Joseph Duget,
there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth century corrupting
society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth century had evolved from this, now
trying to revive society through the philosophes Republic of Letters.
The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of collaboration
and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism. Salons were
characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth of intellectual
practice as a valuable interest. The serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided philosophes with
the environment necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the involvement of
women in the enlightened community. The Republic of Letters developed complementarily with the
salon s social, institutional advancements, mirroring the interconnectivity of philosophes and
salonnières alike in the Enlightenment project. Epistolary networks of intellectual discussion and the
continued exchange of letters was vital to the growth and characterization of the Republic of

Transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one location to another.
Transportation is the system of road transportation, rail transportation, marine transportation and air
transportation.
Transportation always played an important role in the history of Canada because of building the
railway system many provinces such as British Columbia and Prince Edward Island agreed to join
Confederation. The first Canada s railway line was built in 1836 and the first railway system was
completed and opened in 1885. November 8, 1885, the first rail train traveled across Canada from sea
to sea. There were the first steps of transportation s history of Canada.
Transportation is an essential component of the Canadian economy. The transportation s system makes
possible to Canada to trade and develop local and international businesses. Canadians like to think of
themselves as residents of an autonomous nation, but increasingly, local and national politics are
dictated by the global shipping network. Without foreign buyers of raw materials like softwood and
oil, Canada would be a much poorer place. Shelves would go bare and the economy ... Show more

When Canadian government, in the 1870s, promised to build a railway from Nova Scotia to British
Columbia it took more than two years just to find a company who agreed to do it. Also, it happens
today when the country needs to grow up the transportation system the government asks companies or
people to help. For example, in March 2015, Vancouver s government interviewed residents for an
option of paying a 0.5 per cent sales tax in exchange for a vastly upgraded rapid transit system.
Funding infrastructure projects in Canada, and elsewhere in North America, are a perennial challenge
that s been most commonly answered by taxpayers, said Fiona Crofton, a sustainability professional
and former University of British Columbia

Spotlight Reflection
Recently in Journalism class, we watched the movie titled Spotlight which was based on the story of
the 87 priest molestation cases that occurred in Boston alone. This movie followed a team of
Journalists, the Spotlight Team, who worked for the Boston Globe. This team tracked down 87
molester priests and cultivated a story to bring attention to the issue. While there were a lot of
important concepts highlighted in this movie, the three main concepts of the film were on why this
issue has been happening for such an exaggerated period of time, preposterous events can occur in the
most unexpected places and that vulnerable people are effortlessly taken advantage of. The world let
these incidents go on for too long. For years, the priests not just in these Boston churches, but around
the globe had been performing inappropriate acts on powerless children in their churches. It was even
made known that these churches were fully aware of these events and masked the truth from their
communities. The church essentially wanted so desperately to believe that it was a minor flaw in the
system. In reality, it was happening in an exuberant amount of religious areas. It is partially based on
the statement that no one wants to cuff a priest because they feel that in a way, it would make them
look atrocious.
To keep muted on these events, people were put under restraint by their own family and friends. They
were told not to speak out about their molestation cases. The belief in the

Research Paper On Edward De Vere
The Earl of Elizabethan Literature
Edward De Vere played a critical role in shaping the style of Elizabethan Literature.
He introduced realism to Elizabethan poetry while drawing from his extensive knowledge of ancient
literature and his personal experiences as the 17th Earl of Oxford and a ward of Queen Elizabeth I. His
position in the royal court provided him access to education and classic literature that was unavailable
to his peers. This exclusive knowledge gives De Vere s poetry a unique layer of allusion that
complimented the era of English Renaissance.
As in much of Elizabethan poetry, the 18 poems attributed to Edward De Vere are rich with allusion to
Greek and Roman mythology, English folklore, and ancient legends that showcase ... Show more

In fact, viewing all Shakespearean works through an Oxfordian lense creates an entire new approach
to the study of Shakespeare that is not a possibility from the Stratfordian approach. With such little
knowledge of the William Shakespeare from Stratford Upon Avon, it is nearly impossible to verify
personal motivation for any of his works. In addition, there are overwhelming similarities in diction
between the works of Shakespeare and those of Oxford. As stated in Shakespeare Revealed in Oxford
s Poetry by Joseph Sobran, [verbal parallels] are the literary equivalent of the fingerprints or DNA
evidence that may connect a suspect with a crime beyond any reasonable doubt. (Sobran) For
example, Oxford and Shakespeare utilize many common images in their poems; such as the oracle of
Apollo, the game of tennis, women as haggard hawks, wounded deer, and the morning sun melting
dew, just to name a few (Sobran). These specific images are not found in an abundance of Elizabethan
works, but such similarities consistently appear between the works of these two poets. Based on this
evidence, and much more that would take far too long to address in this format, many scholars have
accepted Edward De Vere as the true Shakespearean

Child Labor In America, 1908-1912
Child Labor in America 1908 1912 Lewis Hine(1874 1940) was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He
studied sociology at Chicago and New York universities, becoming a teacher, then took up
photography as a means of expressing his social concerns. In 1908, Hine left his teaching position for
a full time job as an investigative photographer for the National Child Labor Committee to document
Child labor. Throughout America, child labor was ignored and unrecognized. Hine believed that if
people could see for themselves the abuses and injustices of child labor, they would demand laws to
end child labor. Hines began by photographing children in factories, mine fields, textile mills, and in
the streets. He took pictures of children working in the streets

Vascular Hyperpermeability Case Study
Vascular hyperpermeability is a causative factor in several disease states including ALI (39). Although
primarily produced in the liver, we observed that the murine pulmonary vasculature also expresses the
extracellular serine protease, HABP2 (36). Therefore, we silenced HABP2 expression in the
pulmonary vasculature and observed that it attenuated LPS and VILI induced pulmonary vascular leak
(36). Since HABP2 is upregulated in ALI, this study examined the functional consequences of HABP2
overexpression and the endogenous inhibitor(s) of HABP2 during ALI.
Reports indicate that the extracellular serine protease inhibitor, C1INH, can effectively bind HABP2
in the blood (27). We therefore examined whether C1INH can colocalize with HABP2 in ... Show

We grew HLMVEC to confluency, changed to 2% media and added either control or 100 ng/ml
C1INH one hour prior to the addition of control, 100 ng/ml purified endothelial HABP2, 1 ug/ml LPS
or 100 nM LMW HA (which we have previously demonstrated can activate HABP2 protease activity
(36)) for 15 minutes. Cells were solublized and the ratio of pSer536 p65 NF kB to total p65 NF kB
was quantitated using an ELISA kit (Abcam). Figure 2 A indicates that preincubation with C1INH
inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated NF kB activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least
likely due to the fact that it can also bind CD44v10 and TLR4 (41). We and others have previously
shown that HABP2, LPS and LMW HA can activate the small G protein, RhoA, in EC (36, 39, 41 44).
Using the same experimental setup at Figure 2 A, Figure 2 B indicates that preincubation with C1INH
inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated RhoA activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least
likely due to reasons stated above. Finally, Figure 2 C indicates that C1INH moderates EC barrier
function. Specifically, pretreatment of HPMVEC monolayers with C1INH (100 ng/ml, 1 hour)
attenuated LPS, LWM HA and purified HABP2 mediated EC barrier disruption while slightly (but
significantly) augmenting HMW HA mediated EC barrier enhancement.
We next switched our focus to an in vivo model of LPS induced ALI. Figure 3 A indicates that, in a
murine model of control (no LPS) or ALI using intratracheal administration of LPS followed by lung

Build Your Redesign Vocabulary Organizations are constantly changing over time to keep up with
internal and external environmental demands. When organizations are in the process of changing, an
organizational redesign is in the works. The purpose of this assignment is to discuss redesign
challenges that Community Health Center of Central Wyoming (CHCCW) faces during its redesign
phase of organizational change. Fundamentals of Organizational Redesign Organizational redesign is
the process in which changing an organization s informal design is due to shifting dynamics in the
organization s environment (Spector, 2013, p. 78). This happens for a variety of reasons, and an
organization should strategically consider both the internal and external environment for causes in the
dynamic shift. Organizational redesign does not just effect policy and process development, but also
the behaviors and norms of the organizational culture. One reason for leaders of an organization to
consider an organizational redesign is financial status of the organization. This is the case for
CHCCW. CHCCW has been in the process of an organizational redesign for lack of financial
sustainability, along with improving the cultural and morale of the organization for the past couple of
years. Organizational Redesign Challenges There are many different redesign challenges that
organizations must comprehend. By being aware of the potential challenges, leaders can develop a
strategic plan to be prepared if

Digital Divide Australia
In a world where technology is being constantly innovated, there are some people who are bound to
fall behind. Particularly because information and communication technologies have brought
significant changes to improve countries across the globe politically, economically and socially and
over the past few decades, there has been r in people s reliance and use of the Internet. The gap
between those who do and those who do not have access to the Internet is known as the digital divide.
This is a major issue internationally because information and communication technology can
empower and benefit society socially and economically to share facts and express their values, virtues
and other opinions. Some countries that are greatly impacted by the ... Show more content on

So as the divide narrows, it gets deeper. This is not the only comparable cause of the digital inequality
since, both countries have many factors that are impacting their digital divide issue such as, the
internet usage gap between the older and younger generations, the correlation between income levels
and the level of computer illiteracy. Firstly, in both Australia and Malaysia, there is a correlation in the
age of its citizens and internet usage. Australians aged from 18 to 29 years old are nine times more
likely Internet users than those over fifty, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. While in
Malaysia, there are very similar studies with similar results such as, the ones done by Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission where most of the internet users are 20 through 24
years old. This gap may be caused by the mindset of the older generations that may feel like that they
have been living without information technology for so long, they have no need for it, even though,
information technology could help them become more effective and efficient. Some of them may also
feel that information technology could jeopardize their jobs if certain processes are automated with the
use of information technology which, can actually create more jobs in the production

Angels In The Christian Bible
ngels are known to be messengers of God, often depicted to be winged creatures. These supernatural
beings are believed widely in many religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and even
Hinduism. Angels are mystical beings that serve as a link or an intermediary between man and his
Supreme Creator. In the Christian Bible, they are known to be the attendants to God s throne, God s
messenger to his people, and personal guardians to each and every person. While there are also evil
angels or fallen angels, the divine angels are the ones that people can look up to for guidance and help.
It is possible to ask help from guardian angels as it is believed that every one has them. In Hebrews for
example, angels are referred to as ministering spirits who are sent to provide guidance to the world,
for the sake of salvation. Angels are known to communicate to mere mortals in many ways. They can
work through the intuition; but one of the most common means in communicating is through dreams.
In the Bible for example, people and prophets were often depicted to be conversing with angels
through dreams. Often they would receive messages, warnings or good tidings from these mystical
creatures whether through dreams or through apparitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. 12 Angry Men Character Analysis In the movie Twelve Angry Men, Henry Fonda plays a character known as jury member number eight, otherwise also known as Mr. Davis. Henry Fonda s role in the movie for many, may be thought of as the most important character in the entire movie. Though this statement may be true, the movie also involves eleven other characters who have huge contributions to the story line. Throughout the movie, the audience watches twelve jury members discuss the alleged murder trial for an eighteen year old boy who is being accused of murdering his father. All men, but one agree that the boy is guilty. The movie 12 Angry Men may cause some people to question their own morals and beliefs, however the overall outcome of the movie truly shows the importance of optimism, honesty, and standing up for what you think is right. Henry Fonda plays the role of jury member number eight, also known as Mr. Davis. This character that Henry Fonda plays believes that the boy on trial is not guilty. When questioned by the other eleven men, Mr. Fonda s character never argued, yelled, accused, or even acted as if he was right. He remained very optimistic and open minded throughout the entire movie. These qualities his character plays can be things some people can apply in their own lives and use in everyday situations. The next character that many people might think of as extremely important would be jury member number five. This character is important because he relates to the eighteen year old ... • 3. St. Thomas Aquinas Influence On Religion Both in the times of St. Thomas Aquinas and in our times, there are many other religions. To avoid an everlasting war many chose to accept those of the different religions. The Catholic Church teaches that it is the true Church and that salvation cannot be found outside of the Catholic Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 816). When St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of unbelievers he speaks of those who are not Catholic. Even though Aquinas is addressing Catholics, his views can be used today to address other denominations of Christianity that did not exist in his time. Unbelievers are very different from heretics. While the Church tends to treat unbelievers the same as they have for many years, it no longer treats heretics in the way they once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sharing of many of these opposing views allows for questions to arise of who could possibly be excommunicated. In the twenty first century most, excommunications have occurred due to an individual s stance on the topics of abortion, homosexual marriage, or for the ordination of female priest. Four prominent figures in today s time have used social media to convey their opinions and their opinions have had many people calling for their excommunications. Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Tim Kaine are all public speakers who have exclaimed views different from Church teachings while claiming to be Catholic. These views can include abortion, contraception, homosexual marriage, the ordination of women priest, of many other issues. Fr. James Martin is also known for his views that oppose the Catholic Church. Fr. James Martin has often spoken out and interpreted the Bible in ways many would call heretical or he has referred to the Holy Spirit with feminine pronouns. Fr. Martin has also promoted transgenderism in children and the lack of chastity in same sex relationships (The Vortex). These four Catholics have used social media as an outlet to oppose the Catholic Church and through undermining them, they have been viewed as heretics by many. Their use of social media has made it even more dangerous to the souls of others because their heresy is quickly spread and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Controversy Over Internet Censorship Thesis: There has been much debate about the commonwealth s and the Australian communications and media authority s campaign to give the Internet censorship that is not required. For reasons such as freedom to talk about ideas, to talking to people around the world. In china there are estimated to be around 30 thousand police surfing the web, covering up websites the government does not want you looking up. Things such as just searching up human rights will bring you to a page that says you cannot access, and this is mainly the cause of communism. Explaining my topic: Today most people have the right to read whatever they want and also to write whatever they want, all with little to no law enforcement. So why should the Internet be anything other? The Internet should be a free place that allows people to look up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is highly controversial whether or not we should implement Internet censorship as a result of this law. Human rights are what makes us human beings, and for these laws to be in place Internet censorship should not be implemented to Australian Internet. • 6. Russell On Truth Bertrand Russell discussed certain problems he found with philosophy. Russell was concerned about how much did we really know. There is the stuff we know with our mind when we have a particular idea, and stuff we know through actually experiencing it which would justify it. But how do we know if it is real, or even there, for that matter? Russell says, For if we cannot be sure of the independent existence of object, we cannot be sure of the independent existence of other people s bodies, and therefore still less of other peoples minds, since we have no grounds for believing in their minds except such as are derived from observing their bodies (Russell, 47). Russell believed that all of our knowledge, both knowledge of things and knowledge of truths, rest upon acquaintance as its foundation. It is therefore important to consider what kinds of things there are which we have acquaintance (Russell, 57). You know stuff through acquaintance by directly experiencing it and you know stuff through description from hearing what other have told you from there direct experiences. William James on the other hand would have had different views than Russell in some aspects. James believed that you needed more than just an idea to make something true, it needed power. James believes that truth is dynamic rather than static. James feels truth happens when everything holds together, when what you believe actually fits in with other things you also believe. While at the same time, James believed something is false when it doesn t fit in with the systems of your beliefs. James said, The most violent revolutions in an individual s beliefs leave most of his old order standing. Time and space, cause and effect, nature and history, and one s biography remain untouched. New truth is always a go between, a smoother over of transitions. It marries old opinion to new fact so as ever to show a minimum of jolt, a maximum of continuity (James, 124). Blindness In King Lear Essay The Shakespearean tragedy, King Lear, is a significant play that explores the concept of blindness whilst communicating the importance of the theme for the characters King Lear and Earl of Gloucester. Blindness is in literary terms is defined as the inability of the eye to see, however in Shakespeare s play blindness is perceived to be a mental flaw that people possess and is the catalyst for false decisions that eventually place the two characters into emotions of despair and regret. Gloucester s two sons; the legitimate and righteous Edgar and the illegitimate, disguised devil , Edmund, both whom Gloucester loves equally however due to his bastard son, he is blinded and misunderstands Edgar. This act of blindness can be sighted in Act 1, Scene 2 as Gloucester is blinded by Edmond who had given him a letter that he wrote himself, but presents in Edgar s perspective. Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. Through the use of repetition whilst cursing Edgar, it is evident that Gloucester has concluded that his legitimate son, Edgar, is the villain , without any further investigation. He states, O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter! Abhorred villain! Unnatural, detested, brutish villain! Worse than brutish! Go, sirrah, seek him. I ll appre hend him. Abominable villain! Where is he? The repetitive use of villain , whilst Gloucester curses Edgar and makes it clear that he has fallen into Edmond s deception. This also suggests Gloucester s gullibility, which is his inability and mental flaw that Edmond deviously takes advantage of in seek of power. The concept of blindness is explored in this scene between Gloucester and Edmund, making it evident that placing trust in people can result in much suffering, which Shakespeare has ... While the practical, classroom end of this worksheet was a brainstorm regarding the details of the poem and an increasingly specific investigation of the diversity of potential meanings in the poem, by allowing my students to write before speaking to gather their thoughts and ideas before even a spoken brainstorm I allowed each of my students to feel as though they had something to contribute to the class and to the classes construction of a reading (or a series of readings!) of the poem. Allowing students to chart the known, this activity ultimately allowed my students to make the leap to charting a small section of ideas that were, before this activity, unknown. Before students can trust each other enough to share their ideas and to construct knowledge with each other the teacher must engage students in activities to foster classroom community. It requires rigorous planning and constant improvement of the project plan in order to discover and address any potential issues that may interrupt the final delivery. Applying proven acquisition processes and principles will aid Project Managers in creating an environment for success. The decision to choose a product or service from an external supplier or vendor is referred to as outsourcing. The decision to outsource a product or service is a significant one, and the Project Manager must take into consideration additional costs, changes to schedule, deliverables, and value. Furthermore, there are also other decision making factors, such as the need for control over the quality, proprietary technology, time constraints, and lack of expertise or limited capabilities of the external supplier (Project Management Institute, 2013). From a financial and scheduling standpoint, the decision is straightforward, as the success of the project is dependent on resources available through outsourcing. Since the project is dependent on an outside entity, the Project Manager must follow prudent measures to control the process. The first step in controlling the process is to determine the appropriate acquisition process. One reliable process is known as Performance Based Acquisition (PBA). Performance Based Acquisition (PBA) is a results oriented contracting method that focuses on outputs, and is written so that payment or contract extension is based on measurable performance. The main benefit of using PBA is to minimize costs, while improving vendor performance (NIGP, 2012). Through this, Dickens is able to show Pip s flaws and advantages throughout the book. Biddy and Estella are complete opposites for the most part and many of their traits are complete opposites of each other. For instance, Biddy is kind and nice to Pip, but Estella bullies Pip and tells him that he is not good enough for her. Biddy is very plain and simple and as Pip describes her as common. (Dickens p.100) On the other hand, Estella is described to be very beautiful and extravagant. These descriptions would make them exact opposites however the comparison does not stop there. Why it came natural to me to do so, and why Biddy had a deep concern in everything I told her , I did not know then, though I think I know now. • 17. Identity Negotiation Theory Paper Identity negotiation theory is a theory that suggests that people are constantly negotiating who they are to other people that they talk to, if even only subconsciously. Identity negotiation refers to the process through which perceivers and targets come to agreements regarding their identities Swann (2014). This essay analyzes self identity theory, based on the facts that the theory suggests, particularly how people negotiate their feelings, respect for each other, and in many ways even their interests and disinterests, then I will critique the theory in question. First, this essay will discuss how people negotiate their feelings on a daily basis based off the theory in question. When one says hello or a similar greeting to someone else the speaker is asking (if even somewhat subconsciously) how the other person is feeling. Usually the other person will communicate back their feelings, which is answered in a pretty simplistic manner. If the person that answers the greeting says that they are doing well, then that means that they are in a good mood and are interested in driving the communication further; if that same person says that they are doing bad then that means that they re not feeling well today, but are still interested in furthering the conversation; and if a person doesn t answer the question at all, then that means that that person is probably not ... • 21. A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson, Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his people s advancement to a sudden stop. While many facets of functionalism has been tested throughout the century, one of the more interesting questions came in the form of computers. Similarly to a human brain, could computers also think? This idea was explored by John R. Searle, in his book titled, Minds, Brains, and Science. • 36. The Importance Of Owning Property With Great Historic And... Many questions arise regarding the decision of owning property with great historic and economic value. In the artistic world of museums, there has always been a craving to own the most valuable antiquities created by human kind. The biggest battle of antiquities relies on the Elgin Marbles, which were once part of the Parthenon, a magnificent creation of Athenians to worship Athena The Goddess of War (British Museum web npg). This temple stands atop the Acropolis, on the site of another lost temple to Athens patron goddess. Little is known about this first structure except that it was still under construction in 480 B.C. when Persian forces sacked the city and demolished the Acropolis. The Parthenon is very famous, and tourists from all over the world visit this temple to contemplate the talent of past generations. In present times, we have Greece, which claims that the Elgin Marbles should be repatriated; on the other hand we have Britain, which currently possesses the Elgin Marbles displayed in the British Museum. The British Museum acquired these sculptures thanks to Lord Elgin, a British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Lord Elgin was passionate about the ancient Greek art. Between 1801 1805 he removed about half of the remaining sculptures back to Britain (BM web npg). This big dispute has garnered extensive media attention. Not all of the sculptures from the Parthenon are in the British Museum, even though a big portion of them are. You can also find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying to supplement the education that was denied to them as children. However, as illustrated by eighteenth century French theologian and moralist, Jacques Joseph Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth century corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth century had evolved from this, now trying to revive society through the philosophes Republic of Letters. The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism. Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth of intellectual practice as a valuable interest. The serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided philosophes with the environment necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the involvement of women in the enlightened community. The Republic of Letters developed complementarily with the salon s social, institutional advancements, mirroring the interconnectivity of philosophes and salonnières alike in the Enlightenment project. When I was thirteen years of age, we all went on a party of pleasure to the baths near Thonon: the inclemency of the weather obliged us to remain a day confined to the inn. In this house I chanced to find a volume of the works of Cornelius Agrippa. I opened it with apathy; the theory which he attempts to demonstrate, and the wonderful facts which he relates, soon changed this feeling into enthusiasm. A new light seemed to dawn upon my mind; and, bounding with joy, I communicated my discovery to my father. Transportation is the system of road transportation, rail transportation, marine transportation and air transportation. Transportation always played an important role in the history of Canada because of building the railway system many provinces such as British Columbia and Prince Edward Island agreed to join Confederation. The first Canada s railway line was built in 1836 and the first railway system was completed and opened in 1885. November 8, 1885, the first rail train traveled across Canada from sea to sea. There were the first steps of transportation s history of Canada. Transportation is an essential component of the Canadian economy. The transportation s system makes possible to Canada to trade and develop local and international businesses. Canadians like to think of themselves as residents of an autonomous nation, but increasingly, local and national politics are dictated by the global shipping network. • 40. Spotlight Reflection Recently in Journalism class, we watched the movie titled Spotlight which was based on the story of the 87 priest molestation cases that occurred in Boston alone. This movie followed a team of Journalists, the Spotlight Team, who worked for the Boston Globe. This team tracked down 87 molester priests and cultivated a story to bring attention to the issue. While there were a lot of important concepts highlighted in this movie, the three main concepts of the film were on why this issue has been happening for such an exaggerated period of time, preposterous events can occur in the most unexpected places and that vulnerable people are effortlessly taken advantage of. The world let these incidents go on for too long. For years, the priests not just in these Boston churches, but around the globe had been performing inappropriate acts on powerless children in their churches. It was even made known that these churches were fully aware of these events and masked the truth from their communities. The church essentially wanted so desperately to believe that it was a minor flaw in the system. In reality, it was happening in an exuberant amount of religious areas. It is partially based on the statement that no one wants to cuff a priest because they feel that in a way, it would make them look atrocious. To keep muted on these events, people were put under restraint by their own family and friends. They were told not to speak out about their molestation cases. The belief in the ... He introduced realism to Elizabethan poetry while drawing from his extensive knowledge of ancient literature and his personal experiences as the 17th Earl of Oxford and a ward of Queen Elizabeth I. His position in the royal court provided him access to education and classic literature that was unavailable to his peers. This exclusive knowledge gives De Vere s poetry a unique layer of allusion that complimented the era of English Renaissance. In fact, viewing all Shakespearean works through an Oxfordian lense creates an entire new approach to the study of Shakespeare that is not a possibility from the Stratfordian approach. With such little knowledge of the William Shakespeare from Stratford Upon Avon, it is nearly impossible to verify personal motivation for any of his works. In addition, there are overwhelming similarities in diction between the works of Shakespeare and those of Oxford. As stated in Shakespeare Revealed in Oxford s Poetry by Joseph Sobran, [verbal parallels] are the literary equivalent of the fingerprints or DNA evidence that may connect a suspect with a crime beyond any reasonable doubt. (Sobran) For example, Oxford and Shakespeare utilize many common images in their poems; such as the oracle of Apollo, the game of tennis, women as haggard hawks, wounded deer, and the morning sun melting dew, just to name a few (Sobran). These specific images are not found in an abundance of Elizabethan works, but such similarities consistently appear between the works of these two poets. • 43. Vascular Hyperpermeability Case Study Vascular hyperpermeability is a causative factor in several disease states including ALI (39). Although primarily produced in the liver, we observed that the murine pulmonary vasculature also expresses the extracellular serine protease, HABP2 (36). Therefore, we silenced HABP2 expression in the pulmonary vasculature and observed that it attenuated LPS and VILI induced pulmonary vascular leak (36). Since HABP2 is upregulated in ALI, this study examined the functional consequences of HABP2 overexpression and the endogenous inhibitor(s) of HABP2 during ALI. Reports indicate that the extracellular serine protease inhibitor, C1INH, can effectively bind HABP2 in the blood (27). We therefore examined whether C1INH can colocalize with HABP2 in ... We grew HLMVEC to confluency, changed to 2% media and added either control or 100 ng/ml C1INH one hour prior to the addition of control, 100 ng/ml purified endothelial HABP2, 1 ug/ml LPS or 100 nM LMW HA (which we have previously demonstrated can activate HABP2 protease activity (36)) for 15 minutes. Cells were solublized and the ratio of pSer536 p65 NF kB to total p65 NF kB was quantitated using an ELISA kit (Abcam). Figure 2 A indicates that preincubation with C1INH inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated NF kB activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least likely due to the fact that it can also bind CD44v10 and TLR4 (41). We and others have previously shown that HABP2, LPS and LMW HA can activate the small G protein, RhoA, in EC (36, 39, 41 44). Using the same experimental setup at Figure 2 A, Figure 2 B indicates that preincubation with C1INH inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated RhoA activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least likely due to reasons stated above. Finally, Figure 2 C indicates that C1INH moderates EC barrier function. Specifically, pretreatment of HPMVEC monolayers with C1INH (100 ng/ml, 1 hour) attenuated LPS, LWM HA and purified HABP2 mediated EC barrier disruption while slightly (but significantly) augmenting HMW HA mediated EC barrier enhancement. We next switched our focus to an in vivo model of LPS induced ALI.
