A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson,
Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of

There is Hepzibah Pyncheon, who can live there as long as she wants, Mr. Holograve, who is a
hypnotist that rents the upstairs apartment, and an old maid, who serves Hepzibah. Then one day a
pretty young girl, Phoebe Pyncheon, comes in and brightens the gloomy atmosphere; about the same
time Hepzibah s insane brother, Clifford, arrives to live with them. Since Clifford dislikes Hepzibah s
ugliness, attitude, rustiness and scowl she soon quits reading and playing the harpsichord for him.
Then she sadly resigns the tasks of keeping him happy and leaves them to Phoebe.
At the same time Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon visits Hepzibah and demands to see Clifford about the old
deed threatening to send him to the insane asylum for life. She has Jaffrey sit in the parlor as she goes

Recently in Journalism class, we watched the movie titled Spotlight which was based on the story of
the 87 priest molestation cases that occurred in Boston alone. This movie followed a team of
Journalists, the Spotlight Team, who worked for the Boston Globe. This team tracked down 87
molester priests and cultivated a story to bring attention to the issue. While there were a lot of
important concepts highlighted in this movie, the three main concepts of the film were on why this
issue has been happening for such an exaggerated period of time, preposterous events can occur in the
most unexpected places and that vulnerable people are effortlessly taken advantage of. The world let
these incidents go on for too long. For years, the priests not just in these Boston churches, but around
the globe had been performing inappropriate acts on powerless children in their churches. It was even
made known that these churches were fully aware of these events and masked the truth from their
communities. The church essentially wanted so desperately to believe that it was a minor flaw in the
system. In reality, it was happening in an exuberant amount of religious areas. It is partially based on
the statement that no one wants to cuff a priest because they feel that in a way, it would make them

shown that HABP2, LPS and LMW HA can activate the small G protein, RhoA, in EC (36, 39, 41 44).
