Dunstan s Spiritual Journey In Fifth Business
In the novel, Fifth Business, we are introduced to a boy, Dunstan, whose journey goes through the
process of individuation. Thus, his physical journey coincides with his spiritual journey. As
Dunstan goes through his journey, with the help Diana Marfleet, Padre Blazon, and Liesl
Vitzlipuzli, they serve a purpose of helping Dunstan define himself to grow towards individuation.
Dunstan has lived a tough life with guilt in his hands. After being in a coma for six months, he
meets Diana Marfleet. Dunstan and Diana go through a deep, intimate, sexual relationship where
Dunstan undergoes new experiences which leads him to see Diana as The Mother Figure . After a
period of time, Diana had fed [him] and washed [him] and lured [him] back into this world when
[he] was far away . She also, [taught him] to walk, showing the greatest patience when [he] was
most clumsy . (81) Through their relationship, Dunstan has experienced the... Show more content on

Blazon tells him that he must find [his] answer in psychological truth, not in objective truth
(169) where he is to understand why he feels such obligation towards her. Moreover, he tells
Dunstan that God is subtle, but He is not cruel (169) explaining that the misfortunes of Mrs.
Dempster s life was likely a part of God s work and that Dunstan should not feel guilty being that
he should forgive [himself] for being a human creature (170) who makes mistakes as well as
others. Therefore, Padre Blazon, The Wise Old Man has given Dunstan more insight on his life by
sharing his wisdom and guides him towards his individuation. Dunstan comes across a hideous
woman, Liesl Vitzlipuzli, who teaches him a moral lesson about secrets. With the help of Liesl, he
has come to the moment where he faces his Shadow; more likely his devil. As he faces his shadow,
he confronts his own guilt; thus, becoming his own

Similarities Between the Scottsboro Boys and Tom Robinson...
There are many similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson in the
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never
occurred produced as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of
two white girls by nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931
(Linder 1). The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the
Scottsboro trial and based the trial of Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of
1931. The three main similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson are the
geographic settings, the portrayal of racism, and the specifics of the court... Show more content on

Both trials were based off of false accusations against black men. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom
Robinson was accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. And in the Scottsboro trial Charles Weems,
Clarence Norris, Andy Wright, Ozie Powelll, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie
Roberson, Roy Wright, and Haywood Patterson were accused of rape by Ruby Bates and Victoria
Price, a known prostitute. The witnesses for the state have presented themselves to you gentlemen,
to this court, on the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that
you gentlemen would go along with them on the assumption the evil assumption that all Negros
lie, that all Negros are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around
our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their caliber (Lee 204). This quote was
stated by Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird in the court and he is stating the beliefs of most people
in the south during the Great Depression. These trials took place during a time of segregation and
racism so most people took the side of the white women. Both of the juries and judges for these
trials were white. Because of this, the accused had no chance of getting equal treatment or justice.
The last and most important similarity between the Tom Robinson trial and the Scottsboro trial is
the similarities within the court.

Organizational Impact Paper
The impact that innovation has on an organization is significant. Defining what innovation,
creativity, and design are to and organization and the impact it can have on an organization. When
an organization looks at innovation the company should be looking for a new way to do something.
To expect change in innovation cannot be avoided in this changing and competitive world of

Abti Personality Test Paper
My results for the MBTI personality test was ISTP. Which represents me as introversion,
sensing, thinking, and perceiving. I have personally never taken this test but I believe I got put
into the right category. I was slightly introverted which wasn t too much of a surprise for me
because I am pretty shy sometimes. I love hanging out with people and never pass up an
opportunity for a good time, so I would say I am more towards the middle between extroversion
and introversion. For example, I wouldn t go up and talk to someone out of the blue, but if
anyone ever asked me to go meet people or do something I would usually say yes. The result for
the way I make decisions seem very accurate to me. I usually always think logically and would think

Chimpanzees In Through A Window By Jane Goodall
In the book Through a Window by Jane Goodall, Goodall tells the reader about her experience when
studying chimpanzees in Gombe for thirty years. Goodall explains how chimpanzees and humans
are very much alike, not only in DNA structure but also in social behavior, intelligent ability, and
emotions. Goodall talks about these similarities throughout the book. Chimpanzees can use tools,
have social organization, have a way to communicate, a similar diet, and locomotion all of which
show how humans and chimpanzees are more closely related then what was originally thought.
Anatomy of the chimpanzee brain is quite similar to that of a human. Since the brain of both are so

Goodall believed that chimpanzees and humans were more closely related then what was believed.
She used the scientific method to complete this experiment. The scientific method has five steps:
observation, induction, deduction, testing, and results. Goodall went to Gombe to observe the
chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Throughout the thirty years Goodall was able to recruit more
volunteers to come and help observe the chimpanzees. By there would be anywhere from 10 to 30
volunteers at a time to get as much information as possible. Goodall induction was that
chimpanzees and humans were similar in multiple ways. This hypothesis was based off of what she
had seen in her early years of observation. Deduction is an if/then statement made from assuming if
the hypothesis was true then this must be true. I could not figure out what Goodall s deduction for
her experiment was. I could imagine that her deduction was something along the lines of: if
chimpanzees are similar to humans in DNA and anatomy then chimpanzees must be similar in
emotional and social behavior. The next step would be testing this if/then statement. Goodall tested
her hypothesis by watching the chimpanzees in their natural environment. Goodall studied how the
chimpanzees acted toward each other, the emotions of the chimpanzees, and how the chimpanzees
responded to different events such as a

characters such as Mrs. Ashford states that why would one of Gods wildest creatures to be in

people as objects is entirely wrong. No one including whites should have to experience
dehumanization. The abolitionists portrayed in the movie are seen through Mr. Davinier who
along with a bunch of students hoped that the end of the slave trade would end. They all would

A Family Of Five Were The First Group Shot
A family of five were in the first group shot. A gray haired elderly woman cradled a baby. The
child couldn t have been more than three months old. She was singing and tickling the little one to
keep her from crying. The baby cooed with delight. Everyone was standing around with tears in
their eyes.
A father holding the hand of his six year old spoke softly to him. The boy wept from fear. His
father stroked the boy s head and pointed to the skies. It was as though he was explaining
something to him. The machine guns opened up. They and others fell backward into the dry
riverbed.
There was an elderly frail snow white haired woman. Others helped her undress to the shouts of the
insurgent s to hurry up. Two young women helped carry her to her place in line in front of the
makeshift grave.
A young couple held each other tightly. Their wedding day was the following weekend. Looking
into each other s eyes, the man spoke tenderly to her. He told her about how their families had
arranged a nearby hotel for their honeymoon. Now they lay together in a cold, uncaring hollow in
the ground. About thirty people at a time they led to the slaughter.
When the little girl s turn, came. As she made her way to the pit, she saw a mound of bodies
tightly wedged together. In the distance, she heard screams from other people being killed a little
way away. The terrorists dragged their blood covered bodies over to the riverbed and dumped them
in on top of the others.

For mobility, private cars can, most probably, help to reach where public transportation is not
available. What s more, it s more comfortable in a private car than in a bus, because you don t have
to tolerate the irritation caused by the bad smell or the confined space, especially at peak hours.
Superior as the above mentioned points are, nevertheless, public transportation also has attractions
of its own. Public transportation is much more environmental friendly compared to private cars, it
doesn t produce that much exhaust gas. Also, undoubtedly, you won t be frustratingly confronted
with the petroleum price hovering at a high level, the heavy tax and the auto insurance. Moreover,
public transportation makes great contribution to a lower rate of accidents than private cars, so why
not choose it? Here is the website http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/fare information/ where provide

The power of time management skills as a predictor of Personal Success suggests its importance
in the wider domain of life success (George, Stansal, Gelb, amp; Pheri, 2008). Maintaining a good
balance between work, family, and school, is crucial in one s ongoing career as a full time student.
Physical and mental health are very important in maintaining a positive and forward thinking
outlook. As noted by George, Stansal, Gelb, and Pheri (2008), health related variables (healthy
diet, quality of overall health) played a surprisingly powerful role as predictors of success (pg.
714). Maintaining your health and mental wellbeing can be beneficial at keeping stress at bay. In
several studies, stress emerged as an important variable with relationships to grade point average
(GPA) and intent to persist along with goal commitment. College students with lower levels of
academic stress and more satisfaction with their academic experiences also manage their time well
(P., Newbold, amp; Mehta, 2011). Maintaining good sleep patterns can help keep students alert
when working on schoolwork. Staying healthy can help with stress management, which in turn, can
help with family life and make things at home easier and less stressful. With less stress at home,
education goals are easier to accomplish.

Romeo And Juliet Vs Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet go through a lot since meeting each other. They are considered one of
literature s most exciting couples because they do whatever they can to be with each other. They
also share a love that is one of the finest in all of history. Romeo and Juliet are truly in love with
each other because they value their time together, they have constant thoughts about each other,
and they are willing to sacrifice what either of them has to be together. First of all, Romeo and
Juliet truly value their time that they have together. This is shown on page 404, line 33, where
Shakespeare states, O Romeo. Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? and on page 405 , line 66,
where Shakespeare also states, With love s light wings did I o perch these walls; For stony limits
cannot hold love out, And for what love can do that dares love attempt. This shows that both,
Romeo and Juliet, truly do value their time together because of the way they longer for each other

anything for Juliet as long as they are in love. Another case where Romeo or Juliet makes a

will not away. What s here? A cup closed in my truelove s hand? . . . This is thy sheath; there

Meiji Japan Changes
Meiji Japan Political Changes
By Natalie Starkoff
Introduction
The Meiji Restoration, an important era in Japanese history, saw the abolition of the feudal system
of the Tokugawa period and political changes which contributed to the modernisation of Japan.
The political leaders in the late Tokugawa period with the main source of power were the shogun
and daimyo as the emperor was only a head figure. The new political system that was introduced in
the Meiji period had a great effect on Japan completely changing their way of living. This new
system was responsible for the development of Japan s infrastructure in areas such as railways,
shipping and technology.

The new government attempted to modernize and develop the country in an attempt to protect
against foreign domination; this is shown by the treaty ports of Yokohama and Kobe and the laws
that applied to foreigners in Japan (http://www.japanvisitor.com/). Middle of the nineteenth century,
Japan s ruling Shogunate was a weak, feudal order, unable to control all its own domains, much less
defend the nation against a threat from the Western powers (Afe.easia.columbia.edu). The Japanese
were convinced that modernization depended on putting an end to the feudal order; a group of
middle ranking samurai overthrew the military government of the Shogun. In 1871, the Meiji
government announced the abolition of feudalism as a form of government and all Japanese all
Japanese were to be loyal to the emperor. Central Government then divided Japan into 75 regions
governed by centrally appointed officials. On the 7th April 1868, Mutsuhito issued a declaration
known as the Five Articles Oath which outlined the main aims and the course of action to be
followed during Emperor Meiji s reign, setting the legal stage for Japan s modernization and can be
considered the first constitution of modern

Non Aboriginal Community Research Paper
Introduction
This paper will define what a community is and discuss some of the strengths and the differences
between Australian Aboriginal Communities and Australian Non Aboriginal Communities.
What is Community?
A community is described by many as a group of people who have the same ideologies on their
cohabitation. They share the same interests and more often know how to work together.
The first meaning of community as a locality refers to the territorial or geographic notion of
community the neighbourhood, town or city. The Second meaning of community, the relational
community, refers to qualities of human interaction and social ties that draw people together
(Heller 1989, pp.3 cited in Taylor, Wilkinson and Cheers, 2008). Whereas... Show more content on

In Non Aboriginal communities, the commonality of ethnicity forms the basis of community life
whereas in Aboriginal communities, kinship is an important factor holding community life together
(Taylor, Wilkinson and Cheers, 2008).
As the times and generations change communities of the future will be very different from the ones
we live in today. Geis, D Kutzmark, T. (1995) noted that communities will need to be different
because, as we move through the end of the twentieth century and into the twenty first, we face a
whole new set of socioeconomic, technological, and global forces that are unlike those that brought
us to where we are today.
Conclusion
Communities must have a base structure however there are fundamental differences when looking
at different communities as each community is different in many ways. For example a rural
community may be strengthened by local initiatives to diversify its economy while some
Aboriginal Communities may be strengthened through improving the quality of relationships with
members of its community such as the Djinda Falcons Program.
While all communities need social interaction to foster trust, reciprocity, tolerance and leadership
the ways in which these qualities are developed within Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal Communities
will vary to other non Aboriginal

Cardozo Case Summary
A recently graduated accountant accepted a company wanting to go public as its first client. That
company was Cardozo and Co, Inc., incorporated in Massachusetts, but headquartered in Miami,
FL. The IPO was successful, and the public company decided to remain with the accountant. After
the IPO, the accountant provided tax advice on matters, such as sheltering money to the Cayman
Islands, and helped to prepare the financial statements for the proxy statement during a merger to
another company that would significantly increase its worth. The auditor s opinion on the
financial statements prepared had been released to the public, and even used by a Prosser Bank to

v. Touche, the court used the primary benefit test, which became known as Ultramares. Ultramares
requires privity, the accountant has a fiduciary duty only to whom they performed work for or an
entity very close to privity. Ultramares requires four aspects for a nonclient; the accountant must be
aware of the name, purpose, extent, and that the client is aware of the nonclient s use. If Ultramares
was used by Prosser Bank and the shareholders, it would fail on several requirements, but primarily
due to the fact that privity is not present, and the parties existence was unknown to the accountant.
In the case of Tricontinental Industries, Ltd. v. PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Tricontinental relied
on the Anicom, Inc. s financial statements audited by PWC, but PWC did not note in its opinion the
discrepancies it discovered during the audit, and Tricontinental entered into an Asset Purchase
Agreement. Anicom eventually restated its financials and became bankrupt. Tricontinenal blames
PWC for negligence. The judge ruled in favor of PWC. Even though this case has different facts
than the Cardozo and Co, Inc. situation, under Ultramares, the accountant intended his work to be
used by his client. The Restatement (Second) of Torts, specifically with regard to the foreseen

Consequences And Effects Of The Partition Of India
The partition of India left a lasting legacy on India politics. Although the British rule was
exploitive, it did much to modernize India (Roskin 336). This all began in 1947 when the British
left India and the state was divided into two separate states. A mostly Hindu India and a mostly
Muslim Pakistan. This caused for massive immigrations on both sides. It also caused a large
divide between the two states causing violence and hatred between the two. There were over half
a million lives lost during the partition (Roskin 331 8). The partition in India lead to Indian
independence. According to Roskin, India won its independence when British colonial rule ended
on August 14th, 1947. This was after the British sent Lord Mountbatten to negotiate, and the
Muslin League insisted on a separate Pakistan. Although this partition was unplanned, bloody, and
hasty, it lead to Indian independence, something that is still celebrated today. This independence
is what makes India have such a strong democracy today. In the biggest democratic election ever,
Indians dumped a worn out centrist party and gave a majority of parliamentary seats to a
rightwing party and leader, Narendra Modi (Roskin 344). This democratic election resulting in a
new leader for India would not be possible without the partition. This partition lead to
independence and democracy nationwide, and this is easily seen in India s elections. Some say
that India is one of the few countries where religion is really alive;

Sea Turtle Research Paper
People should protect sea turtles as much as they can. It is always good to know about the
animals around you and sea turtles are one of them, especially if you live by an ocean. Sea
turtles have been around for over 65 million years and you can t stop protecting them now.. It is
important that humans respect the sea turtles and let them be as long as they are doing no harm
to you or your family. Sea turtles are a big part of the marine ecosystem, they eat the seagrass,
control sponge distribution, and also feast on jellyfish. Without sea turtles, these things wouldn t
be happening in the oceans around you. So if you happen to see a sea turtle, leave it be as it will
make its way back to the ocean with its family. People should protect sea turtles because they eat
the seagrass in the oceans. Anyone who walks on the floor of the ocean knows that stepping on
that slimy plant/grass is very frightening and you probably don t think it s a plant in that moment,
buts its seagrass. Sea turtles eat the seagrass which helps them live and get the energy they need,
but also helps us because when they eat it away, it is most likely going to be in a... Show more

As stated on healthyliving.azcentral.com, Divers who collect sponges may come in contact with
toxins. These toxins live on the sponge or are sprayed through the pores as a defense against,
causing skin rashes on humans. These sponges that are living in the ocean are very harmful to
humans, so it is amazing that turtles control sponge distribution, because if they didn t they re
would be a lot more of these sponges living in the oceans, which would cause a lot more harmful
skin rashes on humans. It also states on helathyliving.azcentral.com that, In rare cases these skin
rashes cause you to feel nauseous and faint. Again its really great they can control the sponge

Making Sense Of Creativity And Conceptual Performance
Making sense of Creativity and Conceptual Performance
In this first summary paper I will focus on the article called Looking Inside the Fishbowl of
Creativity: Verbal and Behavioral Predictors of Creative Performance, written by John Ruscio,
Dean M. Whitney, and Teresa M. Amabile.
I will break this summary paper to three headings focused first on the preliminary of the research
based upon educated guesses by the researching authors, second the research conducted to answer
the questions pertaining to creativity and performance, then lastly with heading three, the outcomes
of the experiment.
What can we say before the test?
With any research, there has to be a hypothesis of the outcomes expected. Ruscio, Whitney, and
Amabile questioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, personalities with stronger constitutions tend to adapt with more ease to take in

outcomes.
Testing the question 1
The researchers, wanting to answer the question: Is there any correlation of motivation and
creativity so they came up with some tests to prove if their hypothesis was right. They first came
up with a pre test that asked over 151 college students who were volunteers, below the graduate
level questions related to how they formulate ideas pertaining to solving answers to their
everyday lives, along with a short consult. This is a troublesome task in itself because the person,
or persons being tested on their life questions could feel too embarrassed to answer the questions
honestly, and falsify their answer making it harder to formulate their research. Also, by have an
inner dialog a certain type of question can have an effect of the outcome because one has to take in
account of what has been going on during the assessment combining it all together whether the task
was hard, easy, or the participant was just not really interested. Another way that a test questioner
can fail to gather the best information is if the questions are not set up in categories to more
formulate the hypothesis. Asking questions in related areas can easily formulate the answers more
quickly, easily, and can be more succinct. A way to limit this anomaly is to ask the

The Beat Generation By Allen Ginsberg
The Beat generation
The Beat Generation, a generation that was sick of its mainstream culture and decided to break
down the walls for individuality of thought, fashion, personal achievement, and poetry. At the end of
World War two, young adults in particularly the east and west coasts of America where left in
questioning thought about their own government as if it was really trying to do what s best for
their people. And in those upset minds a Beat Generation was born. A generation of tired young
poets eager to open the minds of others through their own thoughts and views. The most influential
figures during the Beat Generation where Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Jack Kerouac, and William
Burroughs. And although their bold, expressive poetry led to great fame, this generation of poets
gained a new fan base of critics who thought their work was just a way to seek attention and was
not seen as serious art.
Allen Ginsberg, born 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, unknowingly found himself creating a new
generation of people when he was attending Columbia University and met Jack Kerouac and
William Burroughs. There they exchanged and shared common interests and later would become
prominent figures in the Beat Movement. Allen Ginsberg s rise of fame didn t become apparent
until his book Howl and other poems came to the public eye. But what stood out most for Allen
was his poem Howl , written in 1955, which was written particularly outraged toward the way he

Persuasive Essay On The Matrix
As we grew up, and got into a more understanding stage as a kid, we always have questioned
everything that comes new to us, with the, five W s, (when, where, why, who and what). We
experienced new things like, different hobbies, food, traveling to new places, etc. As we enter the
teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate
and finally our dream job, but life isn t that easy isn t? Life involves money, dealing with people,
meeting new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things
come one it. Watching The Matrixgave me a real life lesson and made me more open minded about
life that can help anybody. I believe The Matrix answers some questions concerning serious life
issues like, self doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self doubting makes
us feel unwanted and unbelieving on your self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only
takes place when somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may
be a start to something better, and start understanding what you re here for. In The Matrix ,
Morpheusfinds Neo because he knows he is the one. After Morpheus find him and tells him you

Race Power And Prejudice Research Paper
Race, Power and Prejudice: An exploration of social and political vision of J.K Rowling in the

пЃ¶Background to the research:
Generally speaking, it is very difficult to give an apt definition of racism. Race, however, can be
defined as a group of individuals belonging to certain ethnicity. The reason for one s inability to
give a proper definition of racism is that the concept in itself at its roots stems out of distinctions
based upon one s own mentality, outlook or social construct that they were born in. So, racism or

Tay-Sachs Disease Case Study
Tay Sachs disease is a human genetic abnormality that results in cells accumulating and becoming
clogged with very large and complex lipids. Which cellular organelle must be involved in this
condition?
A) the Golgi apparatus
B) the lysosome
C) membrane bound ribosomes
D) mitochondria
E) the endoplasmic reticulum
In the most simplistic explanation, lipids are synthesized in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum,
transferred to the Golgi apparatus to be changed and sorted, and then they can be released
outwards, maybe directly to a lysosome. In the lysosome, the lipid will be digested by the active
enzymes in the organelle (Nature, 55).
The Golgi apparatus, is incorrect. The Golgi apparatus takes lipids and proteins that were sent from
the rough endoplasmic reticulum and both modifies and sorts them (Schechter, Lecture #8). These
either remain in the membrane or are released to the outside of the cell and to another lumen
(Nature, 55). Therefore, the chance of the Golgi apparatus becoming clogged with large and
complex lipids is very slim.
C. Membrane bound ribosomes, is incorrect. Ribosomes are made of two different subunits that
each have a significant purpose within the cell and each aid in building proteins. If mRNA encodes
with a protein used for secretory processes, the ribosome then gets attached to the rough
endoplasmic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the lysosome, food from the cell is digested. This food is digested by strong enzymes. The
highly acidic pH of the lumen in the lysosome makes an appropriate home to these digestive
enzymes, which break down proteins, nucleic acids and lipids (Schechter, Lecture #8). The
lysosome is most likely to have the most built and large lipids, after they have been exchanged
through different organelles in the cell. (Nature, 55) The lysosome could become clogged with
very large and complex lipids because if these enzymes stop doing their jobs, or stop working as
well, molecules could easily pile up within the

The Culture Of Popular Culture Essay
Popular culture is a term that holds various meanings depending on where it s being defined and
the context of its use. It is usually recognized as the language or people s culture that prevails in a
society at a point in time. As social researcher Brummett explains in his book Rhetorical
Dimensions of Popular Culture, pop culturereflects the characteristics of social life, where the
publicly are most actively involved. Popular culture is known as the culture of the people . This
culture is determined by the interactions between people within their daily activities, for instance,
dressing styles, use of language, greeting rituals and the ways that people behave in public, etc. are
all examples of popular culture. Popular culture is also diverted by the mass media (Abbott and
Sapsford, 1987).
Popular culture is generally believed to be comprised of a variety of elements. For example,
popular culture covers the most contemporary and instant aspects of our lives. These aspects can
often show the characteristics of rapid change, especially in today s highly technological and
informative world in which, people are highly influenced by the universal media. Certain
standards of behaviour and common beliefs are reflected in pop culture. Because of its cohesion,
pop culture both influences and reflects people s daily life. Moreover, brands can reach iconic pop
status. However, these aspects are not constant and may change rapidly. (Abbott and Sapsford,
1987).

Definitions Of A Dictator Essay
Dictators have been around for centuries, terrorizing and oppressing civilians through manipulation,
genocide, and many other sadistic methods of force. Starting in Ancient Rome, the term dictator
originated from the Latin root word dictare in the late 14c. So, what is a dictator? The earliest
definition that can be found was one who has absolute power or authority . Other words that have
been used to describe dictators over the years is tyrant , despot , autocrat , and many more.
Everyone has seen dictators in the current news or historic documentaries such as Kim Jong un,
Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, etc but perhaps were unaware of their dictator title. Many leaders have
been labelled dictators as they have absolute power that was either taken by force or through
manipulation or even just through blood. However, today we will be focusing on two dictators

Addie is also disconnected from her children. They are a part of Anse and they violate her

United States Pipeline Industry
Pipeline transportation has been around for many years and is very contributory to the United
States transportation system. According to Pipeline101 (2016d), the use of pipelines for oil
transport has been around since the 19th century (p. 1). The first pipes only went a short
distance, and delivered oil from drill holes directly to tanks or refineries (Pipeline101, 2016d,
p.1). As the demand for products increased, so did the pipeline industry. During the 1860s, pipe
material changed from cast or wrought iron to steel (Pipeline101, 2016d, p.1). In the beginning of
the 20th century, the oil business shift from kerosene lamp oil to gasoline in an effort to keep up
with the rise of automobile production (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). After some successful years of
business, the Federal government felt the need for involvement and passed the Valuation Act in
1913 as their first attempt in the ratemaking (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). Within twenty years crude
oil pipes were running across most of the nation (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). Just as things were
going well, oil production declined throughout the lower states and the petroleumsupply was
mostly derived from Canada and overseas (Pipeline101, 2016c, p. 1). Companies in the Gulf

Stereotypes By Naomi Wolf
Ever since the past, there had always been gender stereotypes. For an example, during the wars
in America, men who always the one who fought and women would do the clerical and nursing
jobs. But it was also women who filled in the jobs when men were at war. Women are always
judged and taught to look a certain way when they are more than just that. In Naomi Wolf s
essay, she quotes The contemporary ravages of the beauty backlash are destroying women
physically and depleting us psychologically. If we are to free ourselves from the dead weight that
has been made of our femaleness. it is not ballots or lobbyist or placards that women will need first;

Dietary Supplements Can Damage the Liver
Many people use dietary supplements to boost their health and prevent disease. It is reported
that up to 40% of adults use at least one over the counter dietary supplement daily and most of
these people do not ask or inform their doctors about taking these supplements. Herbal and
nonherbal health supplements are popular because some people believe it is easier to take these
than to buy and prepare healthy meals, especially when they are busy with work or if quality
foods are not easily available. To others, taking specific food supplements is a means to increase
immunity to certain diseases, support bodybuilding, or achieve weight loss. Some health care
providers recommend taking dietary supplements to replace nutritional deficiencies but most
experts advise consuming a healthy, balance diet that provides most of the nutrients one needs to
maintain health. Supplements that can Damage the Liver Studies show that certain dietary
supplements, especially vitamins, minerals and antioxidants have many health benefits, which
includes prevention of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. However, experts warn that some
herbal and dietary supplements have side effects, especially when taken in large doses or if they
are taken for long periods. Research shows that almost 20% of all liver injuries recorded from

The Impact Of Stuxnet Worm On The World s Nuclear Facilities
Another occurrence of cyberwarfare and its power lies within the Stuxnet worm, unleashed
primarily to attack Iranian industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the nation s Nuclear
facilities. The Stuxnet worm is typically introduced to its target environment via an infected USB
flash drive, and upon being loaded onto a computerrunning the Microsoft Windows operating
system the worm would then seek out Siemens Step7 software. This software will then allow for
Stuxnet to control Iranian PLCs, collecting information on industrial systems and causing the fast
spinning centrifuges to tear themselves apart. Stuxnet s complexity is evident in its three prong
approach to infection: It unloads a worm that executes all routines related to the main attack, it
executes a link file that automatically activates other copies of the worm on the same network, and
it activates its rootkit, which allows it to hide its processes and activity on the local computer as
well as the entire computer network. Kaspersky Lab, an international software securitygroup
operating in almost 200 countries and territories worldwide, concluded that the attack is a one of a

attack could only be conducted with nation state support and backing . In May 2011, the PBS

The Importance Of Phedateracy Pedagogy In Education
As with all elements of life, education has evolved since the introduction of schools in Australia in
the 1800 s. Didactic literacy pedagogy was the starting point for most educators which evolved to
authentic pedagogy, then functional pedagogy and critical pedagogy throughout the twentieth
century. To maximise the effectiveness of all student s literacylearning, areas of difficulty in
delivery of information were highlighted, which led to changes being implemented and new
pedagogies being adopted alongside changes in curriculum and school structure. Although literacy
pedagogyhas undergone many changes within the Australian educational climate, there is no one
right or wrong pedagogy, rather, classrooms would benefit from a modernisation of older
pedagogies which can be woven together and applied in the classroom to ensure each student s
success in their literacy learning.
Didactic literacy pedagogy is best known as featuring the teacher as the authority figure in the
classroom who explicitly presents facts and theories of literacy to students who are expected to
memorise the content, such as the formal rules relating to the ways letters, words and sounds
work together (Kalantzis, Cope, Chan Dalley Trim, 2016, p.85; Paul, 1990, p.328 332). Having
been in existence since the 1500 s, and used in classrooms since mass schooling was introduced,
didactic literacy pedagogy was supported with textbooks, developed by Petrus Ramus, which

They were a highly religious group of people with a variety of literary works. The Puritans had no
single voice that represented them, but instead a variety of voices that represent their group. The
Puritans and their literary works were the prominent between 1620 to 1783. The purpose of Puritan
literature was to apprise both his neighbor and his fellow Englishman across the sea of recent
events taking place in the colonies (Warner, 588). Edward Taylor was an incredibly prominent Poet
during this time period, writing many different poems and sermons. He was an orthodox,
reactionary, New England Puritan Minister, ably caring for his congregation and vigorously
defending the American Federal Theology. The poetic works of Edward Taylor conform to the

Many prominent poets from the Puritan era would use biblical themes and biblical language.
Examples of poets who used biblical language were Anne Bradstreet and Roger Williams who
would merge the language of the Bible, the Old World, and the New World (Johnston, 126).
Edward Taylor followed suit with this idea and often The voice of Edward Taylor...is a sensuous
voice (Johnston, 126) .This is well demonstrated in his poem I am the Living Bread. Taylor
described God and the heavens as luxurious in the lines , In this sad state, Gods Tender Bowells
run Out streams of Grace: and he to end all strife The purest Wheate in Heaven (Taylor, 19
21). In these lines Taylor uses vivid imagery to describe the biblical figure of God. The words
purest , tender , and Grace have highly extravagant connotations that create a mood of luxury. This
characterizes God as a magnificent and divine being. Taylor is focusing on the theme of god and is
describing him in a sensuous

Argumentative Essay On Boxing And Women
The sport of boxing is the epitome of masculinity. With its largely aggressive and physical nature
and high injury rate, it is no surprise that author Joyce Carol Oates, in her collection of boxing
essays, states, boxing is for men, and is about men, and is men (72). In refuting of this claim,
women have been partaking in the sport of boxing since the eighteenth century ( van Ingen Kovacs,
2012). Women have made great advances to enter the world of combat sports. However, research
shows that they are not shown the same amount of respect that their malecounterparts receive due to
the attention paid towards their femininity instead of their passion for the sport.
Because of the high degree of physicality involved, many people have wondered if women even
possess the aggression needed for the sport and if they can perform to the same level of prowess
as the boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier once did (Beki, 2013). Women and girls are
given the stereotypes of submissive, compliant, unassertive, and sensitive and are therefore lacking
in the basic qualities assigned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The premium network for pay per view sporting events, Home Box Office (HBO), has been the
prime channel for sporting events yet not once have they aired a woman s match ( van Ingen
Kovacs, 2012). The female sports that do receive the most coverage are the feminine sports and
those females that do not adhere to those standards do not receive the same amount of attention
(Krane, 2001). Women have found that they tend to receive more attention when they are being
sexualized (van Ingen Kovacs, 2012; Lindner, 2012; Krane et al, 2004). The female athletes were
aware that their uniforms were perceived as sexy and thus garnered male attention. To reduce their
feeling of the male gaze, the athletes would cover up in additional clothing prior to their events

That will also be true if the egg comes from the nucleus donor s mother, because mitochondria are
inherited maternally. Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to
eggs from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals,
they will not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different
mitochondrial genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro
fertilization (IVF): the union outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a
zygote. The zygote (from here onwards also called an embryo) divides into two and then four
identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be separated and allowed to develop into separate but
identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted in a uterus. The limited developmental potential
of the cells means that the procedure cannot be repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two
identical mice and probably no more than four identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is
contributed by germ cells from two individuals the mother who contributed the egg and the father
who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like those formed naturally or by standard IVF,
have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical. Because this method of cloning is
identical with the natural formation of monozygotic twins and, in rare cases, even quadruplets, it is
not discussed in detail in this

Cultural Event Analysis
A culture event I attended was a Christmas Holiday Parade. I choose this event because this holiday
can be interpreted in multiple different ways throughout the world. Differing cultures, societies,
family traditions, and religion, are all factors on how each person celebrates this particular cultural
holiday. ChristmasDay is a huge occasion that is acknowledged and honored by many every year.
Although it may be interpreted differently, the celebrations and festivities are seen all around the
world. Christmas is a yearly celebration inspired by the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th.
Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving, Christmas music and caroling, an
exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various
Christmas decorations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas). Other customs for more religious
cultures include attending church on Christmas Eve and observing various parades starting days
for the holiday. Modern decorations include Christmas lights, wreaths, mistletoes hanging, and
decorated Christmas trees with lights and ornaments. The traditional colors of Christmas
decorations are red, green, and gold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas, Decorations). Famous
figures such as Santa Claus, whose name can be traced back to the Dutch culture meaning Saint
Nicholas, is a popular American gift giving icon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas, Gift
bearing Figures). Other famous figures that can

The Last Report On Miracles At The Little No Horse
Family, peer influence, nature versus nurture, religion, and formal schooling all have an impact on
making individuals unique. With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine
which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a
controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity
across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on
Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to
that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their
tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition
to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her
twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west
from a non western perspective.
While some literary figures choose to continue along the lines of their cultural traditions, others find
flaws in traditional practices and decide to rebel against tradition. Marie Kashpaw. Defying tradition
is an interesting theme in literature, as well. Not all traditions should be continued, such as the
succession of abuse in the PUyat amily. Father Jude knows nothing about Ojibwe culture, so he
misses the undertow of clan meaning when Father Damien explains that Sister

Microsoft Packard Faces Intense Competition Essay
THREATS
Intense competition
Hewlett Packard faces intense competition in all its business segments in terms of price, quality,
brand, technology, reputation, distribution, range of products etc. The company faces stiff
competition in the PC market. The company has become the market leader in the PC segment in
the third and fourth quarter of 2006, relegating Dell to the second position. With Michael Dell
returning as Chief Executive Officer, Dell is likely to come back strongly and make a fierce bid
for market leadership. Other significant competitors in the PC market include Acer, Apple
Computer, Gateway, Lenovo Group and Toshiba Corporation. Moreover, Acer s acquisition of
Gateways has made it the third largest PCs supplier in the world. In some regions, the company
faces competition from local companies and from generically branded or white box manufacturers.
The company s competitors in enterprise servers and storage include broad solutions providers
such as IBM, focused competitors such as EMC Corporation in storage, Dell in industry standard
servers and Sun Microsystems in UNIX based servers. The imaging and printing group s key
competitors include Canon USA, Lexmark International, Xerox Corporation, Seiko Epson
Corporation, Samsung Electronics and Dell. Hewlett Packard s inkjet market share expanded as
Lexmark and Epson discontinued their unprofitable printer bundling arrangements with personal
computer and retail partners, under which printers were given free with PC

A Day At The Sherry Netherland Hotel
Our plan for having a fun and relaxing day at The Sherry Netherland Hotel in New York City
was perfectly planned out. We would head out to the pool, eat pizza, play in the arcade, and then
go explore the city. Here we are, two brothers, in a luxurious hotel, in the middle of a big city, what
could go wrong?
So, we set the alarm for 10am in hopes to be back in our hotel room by 8pm. We woke up the next
day excited to start the day. We noticed our dad was still sleeping. So we take the opportunity to
make a prank call to the front desk, now the employee at the front desk is suspicious of our prank
call. Once our dad woke up, he asked if we were excited for our day ahead of us. Immediately we
got ready for going to the pool and packed some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

closed. After getting on, I reached into my pocket for my phone and realized it wasn t there. It
must have fallen out when we quickly jumped onto the elevator. I have to go back up to get it
before someone steals it.
All of a sudden the elevator abruptly shook to a slow stop, making a screeching sound louder
than I ve ever heard. The shaking and abrupt stop caused everyone to fall on our feet. Trying to
regain my hearing from the deafening sound Dean exclaimed, what in the world was that!? I
don t think the elevator isn t moving anymore is it? Derek(me), Dean said, are we stuck here, I
really don t like this. I replied, we can just use the phone built into the elevator to call the front
desk. I ll call them right now so I took out the phone hatch and hit the button to call them. Once I
got the people from the front desk I said, our elevator got stuck halfway down to the first floor
and we can t get out. The lady at the other end of the line replied, aren t you that kid that made a
prank call this morning? I said, yes but we re really stuck and this isn t a prank. I heard the phone
go blank as she hung up and thought, why did we do that.

Binge Drinking in Colleges and Universities
A recent event that showcases that binge drinking is still a problem for many college students at
the University of Iowa is the story of one Iowa student during the 2013 football season.
Samantha Goudie, who is a twenty two year old University of Iowa student, was once known as
Vodka Samm not only around the Iowa City area but nationally. One day in a highly intoxicated
state, she tried to jump onto the field during a regular home football game and after quickly being
arrested was known around the nation as The World s Drunkest College Student. She was cited for
having a blood alcohol level of .341 percent, which is more than four times the legal driving limit.
This event just continued to help solidify the Universityof Iowa s out of control party school
reputation. However, it did bring light to the serious problem of the students binge drinkingand its
effects especially during home football games. In 2009, to try to reduce the amount of underage
and binge drinking, Iowa City passed an ordinance that banned people under the age of twenty one
from being in the bars pass 10:00 PM. Since this ordinance was enacted there has been a drop in the
number of citations for public intoxication, possession of alcohol for minors, and driving under the
influence. (Hennigan) The ordinance has brought good change to the city, but many people argue
that instead of actually changing the amount people drink it has only shifted where and how people
drink alcohol. Since the ordinance

Ralph Diablo Quotes
It used to be Phil s goddamn fault but now it s clear that the devil walks the earth. Phil was my
boyfriend, was, when he bought a grey shorthair kitten, Russian Blue, and called him Diablo. We
were Phil and Shane: crazy, almost in love, and young. I lived in Albuquerque; he lived in Cloud
Croft three hours south, the only mountains of New Mexico I hadn t been. I d come earlier if
Phil weren t such an obstinate asshole. He was that guy who gladly used his car, his money, and
his lips but it was how he talked, what he said, that was beyond inappropriate. But this was with
me, see. If it was in public, Phil somehow magically becomes quote, unquote: more socially
sensitive. Goddamn it, you hardly know what you re saying, Phil. You don t constantly mock and...

Thought it was incredibly ironic when Diablo made enough chaos to make Phil holler the devil
s name a thousand times. Looking back on it now, maybe that was how. Maybe that was why.
Whatever Phil did to deserve it, no one foresaw that from day one that cat was hell incarnate.
Phil never believed me of course. Not at first. Several girls, proud cat owners, shrieked when
Phil considered declawing Diablo. Don t, they warned him. It s the worst thing you can do to a
cat. You just file the claws short. Though Phil hated to admit it, the sluts were right. Only he
never filed Diablo s claws. He was lazy. He was either busy with video games and work or
passed out in bed. Sometimes Phil wasn t home for days. Phil fed him meagerly and at irregular
hours so Diablo constantly meowed. But things changed when the girls couldn t take care of
Diablo anymore. Sluts. So Phil left Diablo at home, utterly isolated for two weeks. I felt guilty
because he was seeing me. Phil was an alcoholic and I was Phil s alcohol. It should be fine..., he
told me, this time with overconfidence. Totally fine. I set several bowls around the place filled
with kibble. Diablo s fine. He ll learn how to

Guatemala Country Analysis Paper
Country Overview
Guatemala is located in Central America, bordering the North Pacific Ocean, El Salvador, Mexico,
Honduras and Belize. It is the most populous country in Central America with an estimated
population of around 15.47 million.
Guatemala used to be the center of the Maya culture during the first millennium A.D. In 1523,
Spanish came to this land, destroyed the Maya culture, and made it become a colony for around
300 years. In 1821, Guatemala won its independence. This country suffered a 36 year civil war
during the second half of last century, which killed more than 200,000 people and created about 1
million refugees. In 1996, the government ended the conflict formally by signing a peace
agreement. Since then, the political stability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The civil war which ended in 1996 left the country deeply fragmented. Land rights issues still
exist, with 1.2 percent of the population owning 60 percent of the land. The current housing deficit
in Guatemala is over 1.8 million homes. Not enough homes are being built, and many people who
have homes lack legal claim to the land or live in inadequate shelter threatened by severe weather,
theft or eviction. In addition, homes often have insufficient space or lack access to basic services.
In Guatemala, remittances could be a source of financing for the purchase of a home when basic
consumption is fulfilled. Another source of financing is mortgage. The government housing
agency, FHA, guarantees about 50% of total mortgages loans. The housing price in Guatemala rises
when the mortgage lending grows. Most local banks in Guatemala relies on short term deposits to
fund their longer term mortgage portfolios, and they tend to overlook the low income market
segment. In 2011, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a U.S. governmental
development finance institution, approved US$100 million for mortgage project in Guatemala,
which establishing the country s first multi bank, market wide mortgage platform, targeting low

Analysis Of Albert Camus The Plague Essay
The evil in this world comes almost always from ignorance. Goodwill can cause as much harm as
ill will, if it lacks understanding. Wrote Albert Camus in the plague. Today, more than ever, this
quote is relevant in the context of Afghanistan, a country in the crossroads between South and
Central Asia, country mired in conflict of varying intensity since 1979.
In the history of Afghanistan, a state, in order to be deemed as legitimate, had to satisfy three
preconditions. Firstly, it had to be a broker between clans, tribes and ethnic groups. Secondly it had
to deliver basic security and ensure secure access to public services and infrastructure. Lastly, it had
to embody the concept of Afganistan as an independent Islamic territory .
The West caricatures Afghans as hirsute warriors, wild eyed extremists, women confined to the
margins of society. But it has little relation to how the Afghans see themselves. Integral to Afghan
value is Islam. Almost all Afghans are muslims and some 80 per cent of them belong to the Hanafi
madhab, the most liberal school of sunni Islam . Of the rest, most are Shia. Although most Afghans
are devoutly religious, they see religion as essentially a private affair, ideally conducted within a
community of fellow believer but not something dictated by state.
Key to understanding the Afghan concept of identity is that it formed in relation to others: to the
family, to community, to tribe or ethnic group. A person s sense of self and place in the

  • 2. Dunstan s Spiritual Journey In Fifth Business In the novel, Fifth Business, we are introduced to a boy, Dunstan, whose journey goes through the process of individuation. Thus, his physical journey coincides with his spiritual journey. As Dunstan goes through his journey, with the help Diana Marfleet, Padre Blazon, and Liesl Vitzlipuzli, they serve a purpose of helping Dunstan define himself to grow towards individuation. Dunstan has lived a tough life with guilt in his hands. After being in a coma for six months, he meets Diana Marfleet. Dunstan and Diana go through a deep, intimate, sexual relationship where Dunstan undergoes new experiences which leads him to see Diana as The Mother Figure . After a period of time, Diana had fed [him] and washed [him] and lured [him] back into this world when [he] was far away . She also, [taught him] to walk, showing the greatest patience when [he] was most clumsy . (81) Through their relationship, Dunstan has experienced the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blazon tells him that he must find [his] answer in psychological truth, not in objective truth (169) where he is to understand why he feels such obligation towards her. Moreover, he tells Dunstan that God is subtle, but He is not cruel (169) explaining that the misfortunes of Mrs. Dempster s life was likely a part of God s work and that Dunstan should not feel guilty being that he should forgive [himself] for being a human creature (170) who makes mistakes as well as others. Therefore, Padre Blazon, The Wise Old Man has given Dunstan more insight on his life by sharing his wisdom and guides him towards his individuation. Dunstan comes across a hideous woman, Liesl Vitzlipuzli, who teaches him a moral lesson about secrets. With the help of Liesl, he has come to the moment where he faces his Shadow; more likely his devil. As he faces his shadow, he confronts his own guilt; thus, becoming his own ... • 3. Similarities Between the Scottsboro Boys and Tom Robinson... There are many similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931 (Linder 1). The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the Scottsboro trial and based the trial of Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of 1931. The three main similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson are the geographic settings, the portrayal of racism, and the specifics of the court... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both trials were based off of false accusations against black men. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson was accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. And in the Scottsboro trial Charles Weems, Clarence Norris, Andy Wright, Ozie Powelll, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, Roy Wright, and Haywood Patterson were accused of rape by Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, a known prostitute. The witnesses for the state have presented themselves to you gentlemen, to this court, on the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that you gentlemen would go along with them on the assumption the evil assumption that all Negros lie, that all Negros are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their caliber (Lee 204). This quote was stated by Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird in the court and he is stating the beliefs of most people in the south during the Great Depression. These trials took place during a time of segregation and racism so most people took the side of the white women. Both of the juries and judges for these trials were white. Because of this, the accused had no chance of getting equal treatment or justice. The last and most important similarity between the Tom Robinson trial and the Scottsboro trial is the similarities within the court. The similarities within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have personally never taken this test but I believe I got put into the right category. I was slightly introverted which wasn t too much of a surprise for me because I am pretty shy sometimes. I love hanging out with people and never pass up an opportunity for a good time, so I would say I am more towards the middle between extroversion and introversion. For example, I wouldn t go up and talk to someone out of the blue, but if anyone ever asked me to go meet people or do something I would usually say yes. Goodall explains how chimpanzees and humans are very much alike, not only in DNA structure but also in social behavior, intelligent ability, and emotions. Goodall talks about these similarities throughout the book. Chimpanzees can use tools, have social organization, have a way to communicate, a similar diet, and locomotion all of which show how humans and chimpanzees are more closely related then what was originally thought. Anatomy of the chimpanzee brain is quite similar to that of a human. Since the brain of both are so much alike it makes sense that chimpanzees can do activities that were once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goodall believed that chimpanzees and humans were more closely related then what was believed. She used the scientific method to complete this experiment. The scientific method has five steps: observation, induction, deduction, testing, and results. Goodall went to Gombe to observe the chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Throughout the thirty years Goodall was able to recruit more volunteers to come and help observe the chimpanzees. By there would be anywhere from 10 to 30 volunteers at a time to get as much information as possible. Goodall induction was that chimpanzees and humans were similar in multiple ways. This hypothesis was based off of what she had seen in her early years of observation. Deduction is an if/then statement made from assuming if the hypothesis was true then this must be true. I could not figure out what Goodall s deduction for her experiment was. I could imagine that her deduction was something along the lines of: if chimpanzees are similar to humans in DNA and anatomy then chimpanzees must be similar in emotional and social behavior. The next step would be testing this if/then statement. Goodall tested her hypothesis by watching the chimpanzees in their natural environment. Goodall studied how the chimpanzees acted toward each other, the emotions of the chimpanzees, and how the chimpanzees responded to different events such as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movie puts religion subtly as racist characters such as Mrs. Ashford states that why would one of Gods wildest creatures to be in high society. The whole movie is really based on the ideal of the logical mindset that claiming people as objects is entirely wrong. No one including whites should have to experience dehumanization. The abolitionists portrayed in the movie are seen through Mr. Davinier who along with a bunch of students hoped that the end of the slave trade would end. They all would be focusing the Zong Case which is one of the turning points of the slave trade. There were slaves that were claimed to have been called cargo that was thrown overboard. Many of the insurancersstate that there were not enough water on board to provide the slaves with. In another sense, they supported their claims that there were no stops on the way eithe. Lord Mansfield is someone that is an abolitionist himself. He states that Mr. Davinier is crazy if he decided to go up against parliament. Mansfield in such ways is afraid to go against the idea of accept the idea that human beings can be insured like Cargo . If he does go against the matter then many people as Mrs. Ashford states that since had not decided on an answer to the case in the beginning of the movie, he might have been siding with the Negroes. The Second meaning of community, the relational community, refers to qualities of human interaction and social ties that draw people together (Heller 1989, pp.3 cited in Taylor, Wilkinson and Cheers, 2008). In Non Aboriginal communities, the commonality of ethnicity forms the basis of community life whereas in Aboriginal communities, kinship is an important factor holding community life together (Taylor, Wilkinson and Cheers, 2008). As the times and generations change communities of the future will be very different from the ones we live in today. Geis, D Kutzmark, T. (1995) noted that communities will need to be different because, as we move through the end of the twentieth century and into the twenty first, we face a whole new set of socioeconomic, technological, and global forces that are unlike those that brought us to where we are today. Conclusion Communities must have a base structure however there are fundamental differences when looking at different communities as each community is different in many ways. For example a rural community may be strengthened by local initiatives to diversify its economy while some Aboriginal Communities may be strengthened through improving the quality of relationships with members of its community such as the Djinda Falcons Program. If Ultramares was used by Prosser Bank and the shareholders, it would fail on several requirements, but primarily due to the fact that privity is not present, and the parties existence was unknown to the accountant. • 20. Consequences And Effects Of The Partition Of India The partition of India left a lasting legacy on India politics. Although the British rule was exploitive, it did much to modernize India (Roskin 336). This all began in 1947 when the British left India and the state was divided into two separate states. A mostly Hindu India and a mostly Muslim Pakistan. This caused for massive immigrations on both sides. It also caused a large divide between the two states causing violence and hatred between the two. There were over half a million lives lost during the partition (Roskin 331 8). The partition in India lead to Indian independence. According to Roskin, India won its independence when British colonial rule ended on August 14th, 1947. This was after the British sent Lord Mountbatten to negotiate, and the Muslin League insisted on a separate Pakistan. Although this partition was unplanned, bloody, and hasty, it lead to Indian independence, something that is still celebrated today. This independence is what makes India have such a strong democracy today. In the biggest democratic election ever, Indians dumped a worn out centrist party and gave a majority of parliamentary seats to a rightwing party and leader, Narendra Modi (Roskin 344). This democratic election resulting in a new leader for India would not be possible without the partition. This partition lead to independence and democracy nationwide, and this is easily seen in India s elections. Some say that India is one of the few countries where religion is really alive; ... It is always good to know about the animals around you and sea turtles are one of them, especially if you live by an ocean. Sea turtles have been around for over 65 million years and you can t stop protecting them now.. It is important that humans respect the sea turtles and let them be as long as they are doing no harm to you or your family. Sea turtles are a big part of the marine ecosystem, they eat the seagrass, control sponge distribution, and also feast on jellyfish. Without sea turtles, these things wouldn t be happening in the oceans around you. So if you happen to see a sea turtle, leave it be as it will make its way back to the ocean with its family. People should protect sea turtles because they eat the seagrass in the oceans. • 29. Tay-Sachs Disease Case Study Tay Sachs disease is a human genetic abnormality that results in cells accumulating and becoming clogged with very large and complex lipids. Which cellular organelle must be involved in this condition? A) the Golgi apparatus
B) the lysosome
C) membrane bound ribosomes D) mitochondria E) the endoplasmic reticulum In the most simplistic explanation, lipids are synthesized in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, transferred to the Golgi apparatus to be changed and sorted, and then they can be released outwards, maybe directly to a lysosome. In the lysosome, the lipid will be digested by the active enzymes in the organelle (Nature, 55). The Golgi apparatus, is incorrect. The Golgi apparatus takes lipids and proteins that were sent from the rough endoplasmic reticulum and both modifies and sorts them (Schechter, Lecture #8). These either remain in the membrane or are released to the outside of the cell and to another lumen (Nature, 55). Therefore, the chance of the Golgi apparatus becoming clogged with large and complex lipids is very slim. C. Membrane bound ribosomes, is incorrect. • 38. The Impact Of Stuxnet Worm On The World s Nuclear Facilities Another occurrence of cyberwarfare and its power lies within the Stuxnet worm, unleashed primarily to attack Iranian industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the nation s Nuclear facilities. The Stuxnet worm is typically introduced to its target environment via an infected USB flash drive, and upon being loaded onto a computerrunning the Microsoft Windows operating system the worm would then seek out Siemens Step7 software. This software will then allow for Stuxnet to control Iranian PLCs, collecting information on industrial systems and causing the fast spinning centrifuges to tear themselves apart. Stuxnet s complexity is evident in its three prong approach to infection: It unloads a worm that executes all routines related to the main attack, it executes a link file that automatically activates other copies of the worm on the same network, and it activates its rootkit, which allows it to hide its processes and activity on the local computer as well as the entire computer network. Kaspersky Lab, an international software securitygroup operating in almost 200 countries and territories worldwide, concluded that the attack is a one of a kind, sophisticated malwareattack backed by a well funded, highly skilled attack team and that the attack could only be conducted with nation state support and backing . • 39. The Importance Of Phedateracy Pedagogy In Education As with all elements of life, education has evolved since the introduction of schools in Australia in the 1800 s. Didactic literacy pedagogy was the starting point for most educators which evolved to authentic pedagogy, then functional pedagogy and critical pedagogy throughout the twentieth century. To maximise the effectiveness of all student s literacylearning, areas of difficulty in delivery of information were highlighted, which led to changes being implemented and new pedagogies being adopted alongside changes in curriculum and school structure. Although literacy pedagogyhas undergone many changes within the Australian educational climate, there is no one right or wrong pedagogy, rather, classrooms would benefit from a modernisation of older pedagogies which can be woven together and applied in the classroom to ensure each student s success in their literacy learning. Didactic literacy pedagogy is best known as featuring the teacher as the authority figure in the classroom who explicitly presents facts and theories of literacy to students who are expected to memorise the content, such as the formal rules relating to the ways letters, words and sounds work together (Kalantzis, Cope, Chan Dalley Trim, 2016, p.85; Paul, 1990, p.328 332). Having been in existence since the 1500 s, and used in classrooms since mass schooling was introduced, didactic literacy pedagogy was supported with textbooks, developed by Petrus Ramus, which assisted teachers in delivering a ... With its largely aggressive and physical nature and high injury rate, it is no surprise that author Joyce Carol Oates, in her collection of boxing essays, states, boxing is for men, and is about men, and is men (72). In refuting of this claim, women have been partaking in the sport of boxing since the eighteenth century ( van Ingen Kovacs, 2012). Women have made great advances to enter the world of combat sports. However, research shows that they are not shown the same amount of respect that their malecounterparts receive due to the attention paid towards their femininity instead of their passion for the sport. Because of the high degree of physicality involved, many people have wondered if women even possess the aggression needed for the sport and if they can perform to the same level of prowess as the boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier once did (Beki, 2013). Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to eggs from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals, they will not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different mitochondrial genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro fertilization (IVF): the union outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a zygote. The zygote (from here onwards also called an embryo) divides into two and then four identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be separated and allowed to develop into separate but identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted in a uterus. The limited developmental potential of the cells means that the procedure cannot be repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two identical mice and probably no more than four identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is contributed by germ cells from two individuals the mother who contributed the egg and the father who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like those formed naturally or by standard IVF, have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical. • 47. The Last Report On Miracles At The Little No Horse Family, peer influence, nature versus nurture, religion, and formal schooling all have an impact on making individuals unique. With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west from a non western perspective. While some literary figures choose to continue along the lines of their cultural traditions, others find flaws in traditional practices and decide to rebel against tradition. Marie Kashpaw. Binge Drinking in Colleges and Universities A recent event that showcases that binge drinking is still a problem for many college students at the University of Iowa is the story of one Iowa student during the 2013 football season. Samantha Goudie, who is a twenty two year old University of Iowa student, was once known as Vodka Samm not only around the Iowa City area but nationally. One day in a highly intoxicated state, she tried to jump onto the field during a regular home football game and after quickly being arrested was known around the nation as The World s Drunkest College Student. She was cited for having a blood alcohol level of .341 percent, which is more than four times the legal driving limit. This event just continued to help solidify the Universityof Iowa s out of control party school reputation. However, it did bring light to the serious problem of the students binge drinkingand its effects especially during home football games. In 2009, to try to reduce the amount of underage and binge drinking, Iowa City passed an ordinance that banned people under the age of twenty one from being in the bars pass 10:00 PM. Since this ordinance was enacted there has been a drop in the number of citations for public intoxication, possession of alcohol for minors, and driving under the influence. • 53. Analysis Of Albert Camus The Plague Essay The evil in this world comes almost always from ignorance. Goodwill can cause as much harm as ill will, if it lacks understanding. Wrote Albert Camus in the plague. Today, more than ever, this quote is relevant in the context of Afghanistan, a country in the crossroads between South and Central Asia, country mired in conflict of varying intensity since 1979. In the history of Afghanistan, a state, in order to be deemed as legitimate, had to satisfy three preconditions. Firstly, it had to be a broker between clans, tribes and ethnic groups. Secondly it had to deliver basic security and ensure secure access to public services and infrastructure. Lastly, it had to embody the concept of Afganistan as an independent Islamic territory . The West caricatures Afghans as hirsute warriors, wild eyed extremists, women confined to the margins of society. But it has little relation to how the Afghans see themselves. Integral to Afghan value is Islam. Almost all Afghans are muslims and some 80 per cent of them belong to the Hanafi madhab, the most liberal school of sunni Islam . Of the rest, most are Shia. Although most Afghans are devoutly religious, they see religion as essentially a private affair, ideally conducted within a community of fellow believer but not something dictated by state. Key to understanding the Afghan concept of identity is that it formed in relation to others: to the family, to community, to tribe or ethnic group. A person s sense of self and place in the ...
