The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar
Characterized to Be Emasculated
Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s
perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar,
Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male
characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney
/Pixar releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472).
However, Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity
stripped by another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong
male model to the New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in
each of the movies who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an
effeminate identity.
Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the
alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards
any forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male
qualities were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the
main emotions that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration
(474). Why did Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? The

Social Media s Influence On Human Interaction
In today s society, social media has caused us to demote human interaction and reward imitation
connections and communications, making it hinder us from maintaining close personal
relationships. We would rather talk to someone over the screen then over coffee, and only
identify the worthy aspects of our life and disregard the undesirable. This want and desire through
social media for a false persona and false ties gives us an aesthetic good life , but ultimately hinders
us from reaching a genuine good life .
Social media has replaced most human to human interaction, leading to decreased physical and
mental abilities, making some lives less desirable. In Robert Waldingers TED Talk, The Harvard
Study of Adult Development, his second lesson learned was that people who are more socially
connected to family and friends are happier, physically healthier, and live longer. When this study
took place, social media had not yet been revealed, leaving them with minimal options on how to
communicate with people. Social media has changed the way that individuals interact, and in a
sense, humans themselves. We find ourselves conversing more and more over social media
websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, but when faced with actually face to face
contact, are found speechless. With this new technology, more and more are likely to not become
as connected to friends and family as the subjects were in the study, decreasing their overall
happiness and hindering society.

The United States Civil War Essay
The United States Civil War can be considered as one of the darkest times in American history.
The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to
preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the
capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort
Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the
Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry
and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the
South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would
meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments
supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the
Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine
how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh
and whether or not they accomplished this goal. In this essay, the Confederacy s goals for attacking
Grant s troops at Shiloh and their failure to accomplish those goals will show just how unsuccessful
the Confederate army truly was at this battle.1
There had been decades of tension between the Southern and Northern states of America. The

The Ignored Lessons Of Anne Frank, By Bruno Bettelheim
Everyone seeks the approval or ratification of other individuals, whether it is a doctor seeking the
approval of peers, or individuals complying with the wishes of their doctors, as a means of
pleasing them. Ratification can be dangerous as individuals give power to those from which they
seek ratification. This can lead to relying on deception in the pursuit of ratification, as well as
others completely complying with those they deem as experts, in pursuit of the doctors ratification.
The article The Ignored Lessons of Anne Frank, written by Bruno Bettelheim, A Holocaust survivor
and former professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, provides evidence that supports
experts abusing power in pursuit of ratification. Likewise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She did all of this despite obtaining none of the qualification required to diagnose mental
disorders, as she is a doctor of anthropology and has never obtained a PhD in Psychology. Where
she abused her power by presenting herself as a doctor of psychology, was where she gains
access to a local mental hospital by presenting herself as such, stating in her article that one day
each week for a period of three months I observed, interviewed, and tested young patients of the
district mental hospital (587). This shows her grievous abuse of power to further her research
project, the purpose of which is to gain the ratification of her peers. Likewise, Dr. Bruno
Bettelheim demonstrates a similar abuse of power by an expert, both in his article, and in his
fabricated credentials. Dr. Bettelheim fabricated his credentials in that he presented himself as a
doctor of psychology, when he was not, and used these false credentials to live as a professor at the
University of Chicago, lecturing, researching and conducting clinical practices when he was
nowhere near qualified to do any of those activities (Finn). Yet in the article The Ignored Lesson of
Anne Frank, Bettelheim states, As a prisoner in Buchenwald, I talked to hundreds of German
Jewish prisoners who were brought there (Bettelheim pp.85) and concluded that they were too
attached to their possessions to escape persecution, criticizing them in the process. He states this

Betty Williams Rights Activist
How would you feel if you witnessed your child get stripped of his or her rights? How would
you feel if your child was treated inhumanely in front of your very own eyes? Children should
never be viewed as powerless or be limited of their rights. They should always receive the same
rights given to everyone else in the world. People need to stand up, defend, and help children.
That s exactly what Betty Williams did. Williams was a determined and hard working peace
activist who devoted her life to helping children, and still does today. Had Betty Williams not
acted as a representative for children and fought for them, life for children would never be the
same. On May 22, 1943, Betty Williams became a face in this world. She was born in Belfast,
which is located in Northern Ireland. Williams was part of a... Show more content on

Life for them wasn t always like that. On August 10, 1976, Williams witnessed a horrific incident
in her town. A mother was walking down the street with her children, and became victims in a hit
and run situation. They were hit by a Provisional Irish Republican Army. All of the three children
died, but their mother, Anne Maguire, survived. Unfortunately, Anne Maguire couldn t bear with
the pain of her children s death, and took her own life. Williams noticed that nothing was done
about the accident. This tragedy inspired her to represent children and ensure that they live good
lives. As Williams once said, We want for our children, as we want for ourselves, our lives at
home, at work, and at play to be lives of joy and peace ( Betty Williams 3). Soon after this
occurrence, Williams came together with the aunt of the children that were killed, Mairead
Maguire. Together, they fought for children. Their goal was to unite all of Northern Ireland. Also,
they wanted to bring justice to children s deaths and other cases involving them. They did not rest

The Discussion For This Week Is Group Dynamics
The discussion for this week is Group Dynamics. Webster s dictionary defines group dynamics as
the interacting forces within a small human group; also, the sociological study of these forces. A
well renown change management expert and social psychologist Kurt Lewin. He created the phrase
group dynamics in the mid 1940 s (Moreno,1953) He has written quite a bit about individuals
choosing a distinctive characteristics and conduct when placed in a group. He studied the influence
of the distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno, 1953).
I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to work as a
group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences, as well as horror
stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years, and I could tell early on whether
the team I am assigned to would be a positive experience or negative experience. There are
indicators that stand out clearly. The first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive,
is there trust amongst the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects,
and is the team striving for a shared goal.
When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and progress is not made.
The team is not working at the optimum level that a company requires to remain successful and
competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have noted that teams with positive

The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Hueshi
Hanif Kueishi s Buddha of Suburbia depicts a young man called Karim Amir and his search for
identity in 1970s London. As the plot progresses, it becomes apparent that Karim does not fall
into a distinct category, defined by sexuality, class, or race. He is a young mixed race man with
fluid sexuality. He is a funny kind of Englishman a product of two old histories (Kureishi 3). He
is placed in the position of a hybrid because of his cultural background, and by the endless racist
encounters that occur in his life. He is not a traditional protagonist who fully belongs to one social
group or identity. The narrative ultimately brings Karim to a realization that it is impossible for him
to find a place in the society. Karim s character dismantles the normativemovement of adolescence
into a societally accepted adulthood, and the societal expectations that discriminate against him
because he is almost English. By residing in a queer space and time in the Buddha of Suburbia,
Karim not only subverts the conventional construction of adulthood, but also withstands the
hegemonies of race that affect him as a half Indian living in London. Often placed as the Other,
Karim rejects both extremes. He rejects England s racialized view of him, and normative ideas of
home, and family. He acknowledges his odd mixture of continents and blood, of here and there, of
belonging or not and sets out to look for trouble, which would distract him from his gloomy, slow
and heavy family life (3).

Taoism And Confucianism Comparison
Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism have influenced each other and have similar principles. For
example, the wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation are considered the key concepts of
Confucianism and Buddhism. Additionally, the leader of the Taoists faith and philosophy, Lao
Tzi, had Buddhist and Confusion influences in his life that led to the development of Taoism. For
example, Lao Tzi wrote Dao de Ching, which translates to Book of the Way and gives 81 ideas for
wisdom, a key concept of Confucianismand Taoism. Even though both Confucianism and Taoism
believe in the Yin Yang, the principle of balancing chaos in the world, they have distinct differences
which distinguish these two schools of philosophy. For example, Confucianism supports

Plato s Theory Of Form
Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory
for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic
questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison
to Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotlecriticizes Plato s theory of Form
because it only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and
what identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four
causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures.
In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of
causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it
is important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were
four causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the
material form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which
is the force that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or
function of the thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the
thing in question exists. In the example of a house the material form is the wood, concrete, and

What s Wrong With Cinderella Analysis
Problems With Princesses
In Peggy Orenstein s article, What s wrong with Cinderella? she discusses the problems with
princesses. The first problem being that princess merchandise is everywhere. Orenstein writes
about when she took her daughter to the dentist and once the check up was over, her daughter
got a princess sticker. Princesses are embedded into a child s everyday life, making a princess
more of a way of living than a fantasy. To further this point, Orenstein mentions how even now, in
a show that is supposed to be about teaching other languages, Dora the Explorer, has turned into
Dora finding a fairy tale land where she becomes a princess at the end of her two part movie. This
is only the beginning of the issues that are brought to attention in this article.
She mentions how all girls are exposed to princesses, no matter where they go. Orenstein expresses
her concern as a parent and how princesses could be damaging to the mental and emotional ... Show

This is because Tinker Bell s reign as a princess didn t last, and Mulan and Pocahontas don t have
glamorous outfits like the traditional princesses, even though they seem to be the most
independent. This implies that an important aspect of being a princess is having a ballroom gown
to go along with your title. Beautiful gowns have become something that coincides with princesses
and their culture, making this something that little girls pay attention to. However, when [princess
culture] is so dominant then it s no longer a choice, She carries out her argument by stating that
there are 25,000 princess products, so no matter where you go you can t really get away from that.
This really answers the big question, What s wrong with Cinderella? It s just a monopoly. Once we

Why does Hamlet delay taking action against Claudius? This is a question that everyone want to

Hamlet delays before he takes action.
One reason why Hamlet delays to take action against Claudius is because he does not just want to

Zombie Apocalypse Disasters
There are all kinds of emergencies that we can prepare for; a zombie apocalypse is one of them.
Zombies may be fictional, but natural disasters are a very real concern in which we would take the
same precautions. To prepare for those kinds of outbreaks, you should have a well structured plan.
During a disaster such as a zombie apocalypse, shelter is a vital part in surviving. With zombies
running rampant across the city, we must have a safe and secure shelter for all citizens to hide out
until the apocalypse is over. With that being said, what kind of building should we provide, and
where should these types of shelters be placed? These buildings will be placed underground, so that
the zombies are unable to reach the citizens and resources we have packed inside. To enter these
types of buildings, all people will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Chinese Room Argument
John Searle 1980(in Cooney, 2000), provides a thought experiment, commonly referred to as the
Chinese room argument (CRA), to show that computers, programmed to simulate human cognition,
are incapable of understanding language. The CRA requires us to consider a scenario where
Searle, who is illiterate in Chinese, finds himself locked in a room with a book containing Chinese
characters. Additionally, he has another book which has a set of instructions written in English
(which he understands), that allows him to match and manipulate the Chinese characters so that
he can provide appropriate written responses (in Chinese) to incoming questions, which are also
written in Chinese. Moreover, Searle has a pile of blank paper with which he uses to jot down his
answers. Subsequently, Searle becomes so proficient in providing responses that the quality of his
answers matches that of a native Chinese speaker. Thus, Searle in the CR functions as a computer
would, where he is the system while the books are the program and the blank paper acts as storage.
Surely, we can conclude that Searle does not actually understand Chinese, but... Show more content

In everyday communication we tend to use the two words interchangeably, believing that the
referent of understanding is the same as the referent of meaning, while sometimes believing that
understanding constitutes meaning (Raatikainen, 2010:2). However, understanding refers to our
knowledge about syntax, arrangement, the what, how and when to do or say things. In this
way, knowledge of understanding (KU) regards formalities in the world. In contrast, knowledge
of meaning (KM) refers to our knowledge of the why . In other words, when we acquire KM we
make sense of why we do what we do, when and how we do them. As a result, KU happens
mainly without the appreciation of what our actions or words mean, whereas KM allows us to

Cowden Syndrome
A 43 year old woman presented with a one year history of abdominal pain and constipation. She
also gave a history of nodules in her mouth which biopsy showed papilloma (Figure A). In
endoscopy nodularity of the esophageal mucosa was seen in the entire length and a single nodule
was seen on the epiglottis. Coarse nodularity was seen in the stomach from cardia and fundus to
the antrum. Nodularity of the bulb and D2 was also seen and multiple polyps of different sizes
were seen in colon (Figure B) (Video 1). Biopsies was taken from these polyps and reported as

In 1996, the susceptibility locus for Cowden syndrome was mapped to chromosome 10q22 23, and
in 1997, germline mutations in the PTEN gene (phosphatase and tensin homology, deleted on
chromosome 10) on 10q23 were first reported in families with this syndrome. Hamartomas in
Cowden syndrome affect all three germ cell layers but most commonly arise from ectodermal and
endodermal elements. Almost all patients (90% to 100%) have mucocutaneous lesions that include
trichilemmomas, acral keratoses, and oral papillomas. Breast lesions affect the majority of female
patients and include fibroadenomas, fibrocystic disease, and adenocarcinomas (25% to 50%).
Thyroid abnormalities, such as multinodular goiter and follicular adenoma, are found in one half to
two thirds of patients. Thyroid carcinoma occurs in 3% to 10% of patients. Macrocephaly,
cerebellar gangliocytoma, and genitourinary malformations are also frequent components of
Cowden syndrome. Increased risks for endometrial carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma have been
added to the operational criteria for Cowden

Plato And The Euthyphro Dilemma
Siddhanth Goyal
Does morality stem from God? Or does it exist independently of his presence, not subject to
arbitrary decisions? The first discussion over these questions appeared in Plato s Euthyphro, in
which Plato chronicles the proceedings of a highly repetitive argument between Socrates and
Euthyphro, a prophet and holy man, over the nature of piety and holiness. The questions produced
in this dialogue have been expanded to remain relevant even in a modern religious context. It has
achieved so much fame that the core question presented in this dialogue is now known as the
Euthyphro Dilemma. In the dialogue, Socrates presents Euthyphro with a choice, Is what is holy

According to this theory, there are no moral standards that exist without God s will, and without his
commands, nothing would be right or wrong. God is omnipotent, and therefore, morality itself is
derived from God s nature. Without God, there is no basis for our moral structure and under this,
what is moral is so because God has decreed it as such.
This theory would stress the complete sovereignty of God s will, and the concept that morality
exists based not on reason, or any logical basis, but simply due to the arbitrary nature of God s
commands. This theory proposes that there is no rationale, moral or immoral, behind divine
commands, and hence renders both his commands and morality subject to his whims. On this
theory, God could have commanded, for example, for one to kill an innocent child, and it would
have been mandatory for a person to do it. Abhorrent acts, or ones we would consider as such, are
automatically pious, simply because God has decreed it, though many, including those who might
be inclined to side with the this theory, would agree that they are abhorrent. The theory also rules
out the option of assuming that God is just an agent of morality, not its progenitor, leaving the
devotee with a puzzling quandary.
On the other hand, rejecting the divine command theory, and accepting that moral principles exist
independently of divine

Big Mama Presley s Comparison
While there are some similarities between Willie Mae Big Mama Thornton and Elvis Presley s
versions of the song Hound Dog, I am of the opinion that there were more differences. The
obvious similarities would be the lyrics retained in Elvis version of the song, though the
interpretation of those lyrics were very different. Perhaps what I feel is colored by growing up
in a household where my mother was an Elvis fan who played his version, and my father, who
was a coal miner s son born in the 1920s in the hills of Virginia, sang and played a much loved copy
he had of Big Mama Thorntons version. While my father masculinized the song when he sang it,
he did so retaining much of the spirit Thornton s recording had. Early on I was too young to
understand any of the risquГ© meanings behind the lyrics, but I knew it had a deeper meaning than
the fun version my mother and her sisters would bounce to while it played.... Show more content on

Big Mama Thornton s style was gritty, sassy, and powerful. The tempo is slower, her words
clearer (in her version, she enunciates better than Elvis Presley), as was her intent. She was fed
up with her man s philandering and she was not going to take it anymore, no matter how much he
wags his tail, she was no longer going to feed it. I also decided to watch a recording posted online
of Big Mama singing Hound Dog. I found two versions, one with Buddy Guy obviously performed

Many People Only Think Of The Ancient Greeks As The Inventor
Many people only think of the ancient Greeks as the inventor of the Olympics, but they had many
artistic accomplishments as well. They influenced art for centuries after the philosopher Protagoras
claimed, man is the measure of all things , as the human body became the central focus of ancient
Greek art. No discussion of Greek history would be complete without mention of the art of ancient
Greece. Its classical Greek art and architecture has left its mark throughout the ages and across the
world. Greek art is categorized under three headings; the archaic period, the Classical period, and
the Hellenistic period. Some experts would also add a fourth heading: the geometric period, which
preceded the archaic style.

The whole war started because Athens supported the Ionian Greeks when they were rebelling in
Anatolia against the Persians. That made the Persian king Xerxes mad, so he led two major
campaigns against the Athenians, and the Athenians enlisted the help of all the other Greek city
states. In the wake of their shared victory, the city states began to see themselves as Greeks, rather
than Spartans, or Athenians. Leading into the Golden Age, Athens emerged as the de facto capital
of Greece. The defeat of the Persians in 479 BC left a long standing self importance on the Greek

Workplace Bullying Institute states, many studies acknowledge that there is a fine line between
strong management and bullying. Comments that are objective and are intended to provide
constructive feedback are not usually considered bullying, but rather are intended to assist the
employee with their work. If you are not sure an action or statement could be considered bullying,
you can use the reasonable person test. Would most people consider the action unacceptable

or can alternatively engage many individuals working as a group. Although, the border line that

Electricity In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Electricity in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath signifies Esther s evolving condition; it describes both a
domineering and destructive force that she imagines from the beginning of the novel, and
experiences later in the form of electroshock, but it also describes her sexual awakening and
development as someone capable of adult intimacy. These two forms of electricity are radically
different, yet both relate to powerful moments in Esther s life as a young adult. While electricity in
the form of electrocution and electroshock becomes associated with punishment and a loss of
control over oneself, static electricitymarks Esther s transition from an almost childlike idea of
romance, absent of sexual intimacy, to an adult who embraces that sexual intimacy as part of love.
In the first paragraph, the novel refers to electricity and connects it to events that are public and
associate with punishment, which Esther then quickly personalizes and relates to her own disgust,
horror, and some subtle indication of attraction. The novel opens with the description of how, It was
a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn t know what I
was doing in New York (XX). The first siting of electricity comes in relation the infamous
Rosenbergs, and therefore associates electrocution with punishment and treason. Moreover, the act
of electrocution is monumental, such that it marks not simply a particular moment or event, but an

beginning of the Second World War. By the time Pearl Harbour was bombed, the Springfield and
Winchester Armoury both gradually made mass production of the M1 Garand and by the end of
the war four million units were made and used.
Modifications were made to the M1 Garand such as adding an extra scope or an extra long

International Marketing Strategy For The Global Market
Nowadays, the global market becomes more and more competitive. The multinational companies
must be able to develop a good international marketing strategy in order to compete in the global
market. Different countries will have different political, economic, socio cultural, technological,
environment and legal and regulatory system. These factors can influence the firm s decision to
conduct business globally by using standardize or differentiate strategy. The cultural differences
will also impact the product strategies as every people in different countries may have difference
beliefs, values, religions, and culture. Thus, it is important for a firm to choose a right marketing
strategy in different foreign markets.
Culture is the main factors that will influence the firm s decision to use standardize or differentiate
strategy. People in different countries hold different cultures. They may have different values,
beliefs, customs, practices and preferences for goods and services. Thus, understanding the
cultural preferences of each country is important for a firm to operate successfully in a foreign
market. The firm should design the goods and services that meet the needs of local people. For an
example, KFC produce Halal food in Muslim country to meet the demand of Muslim customers.

Theories Of Aging
Why do people age? Over the ages people have wondered how do we age? Do our genes determine
our lifespan? Does damage to our DNA affect how long we live? There have been many theories
answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t
magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging.
The first theory is that we live as long as we do because our genes determine how long we live.
This means that we have a gene that tells our body how long we have to live. If this is true we
could change that gene and live longer than predetermined. For example that gene is a timer that is
counting down, imagine you could add time to the timer prolonging the time left. Different animals
have proven this theory to work. A type of worm can to 300 years old, which could support the first
theory that genes determine your lifespan.
The second theory is that over time our body and DNA receive damage until the point when our
body will not function anymore. This theory states that how long we live ... Show more content on

Theories And Research Of Educational Psychology
Select one area of applied psychology in this module. Discuss how theory and research in this area
has been helpful or unhelpful in addressing human problems.
Educational psychology has produced a vast array of theory and research that can be applied to
educational settings to address problems that may occur. This essay will discuss how helpful, or
not so helpful, research and theory has been in dealing with problems found in schools such as
morality and understanding how children learn in order to create a rounded curriculum.
Piaget was the first to create a systematic study of cognitive development, and although he did not
specifically relate his theory to education others have gone on to do so. This has had many
implications in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is support for this idea as according to Piaget practice on a task that you are not biologically
ready for should not improve performance until sufficiently mature. Research supports this
argument as it has been found that children aged 10 and 13 did not improve on formal operational
tasks when tutored, but 17 years olds did (Danner Day, 1977) as Piaget s theory would expect.
Therefore, the concept of readiness may be helpful in understanding why children may not show
improvement on challenging tasks even with tutoring. If this is the case then teachers should revise
the material they are teaching to make sure their age group is biologically ready to interpret the
material.
On the other hand, there is research that also contradicts the idea that a child has to be
biologically ready to be able to learn something. Bryant and Trabasso (1971) showed that children
in the pre operational stage could be trained to solve some logical tasks which, according to Piaget
s theory they should not be able to do. Instead, they argued that children s failure was due to
memory restrictions and not an absence of logical thinking that appears in the operational stage.
They showed that when given suitable training 4 year olds showed good performance on these
tasks. They then suggested that it is practice and not readiness that matters when children are
learning new

Psychological Factor That Affect Sports Performance
Arousal is a psychological factor that can affect sports performance and is defined as the level
of activation or readiness that an individual will experience when faced with a task (Malpeli
2010, pg. 369). Effective performance requires an athlete to achieve optimal arousal which can
be recognised in certain arousal theories (Malpeli 2010, pg. 369). The level of arousal that is
considered to be optimal varies among every individual (Abernethy 2013, pg. 304). High arousal
can affect performance as it often leads to more tense muscles, higher blood pressures, heart rates
and respiration rates (Abernethy 2013, pg. 302). In comparison to high arousal, low arousal can
lead to a lack of motivation, tiredness, lethargic muscles and a drop in enthusiasm and
concentration and therefore a decrease in performance (Malpeli 2010, pg. 369). Personality is
another psychological factor that can affect sports performance and can be defined as the multiple
characteristics in which an individual possesses to make them unique (Abernethy 2013, pg. 298).
People who are usually introverted like things more quiet and are often good at concentrating
whereas people who are extroverts are generally more excited and lack concentration which can
affect sports performance (Honeybourne 2003). It can be seen that people with certain traits or
characteristics will potentially perform better in particular sports (Abernethy 2013, pg. 299).
Another psychological factor that can affect performance is

Film and Its Impact on the American Culture
Modern film was brought to the Americas when the Kinetoscope, the basic film viewer, was first
invented by Thomas Edison in 1889. This, along with his Kinetograph allowed short films to be
displayed in Kinetoscope parlors; these would later evolve into the movie theaters of today. Many
people loved the concept of movies because they allowed one to see different events from the
comfort of a theater. Films however do more than just entertain they can also impact society in a
beneficial or harmful way. This essay will explore the history of film, its changes throughout time,
and its impact on American culture.
The creation of film first began in 1659 by a Dutch scientist named Christiaan Huygens.
Huygens invented the magic lantern, which later became the slide projector. The magic lantern
used a hand painted glass that was illuminated by a light source to project images through a lens.
Later in 1827 the first photograph was taken, it was a view from a window at the Le Gras and
was taken using a technique involving a glass plate invented by Claude Niepce. This technique
however was not efficient as it took 8 hours to develop. In 1834 the Zoetrope which was an
illusion toy invented by William George Horner in which pictures were put into slots and spun
around and when these were viewed through a mirror the images would appear to move. The
Zoetrope was later adapted by Eadwaerd Muybridge into the Zoopraxinoscope in 1878 while
settling a bet on if a horse s hooves left the ground

The Birthmark By Judith Fetterley
Beauty can be defined as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep
satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, a meaningful design or
pattern, or something else. In The Birthmark it is a tragic and upsetting example of what beauty,
gender, and science represent. Georgiana was devoted to make her husband Alymer happy by
jeopardizing her life so he wouldn t suffer from considering her birthmark. Thus potential perfection
is not worth a life. Analyzing the genderaspect of the story can be explained by Judith Fetterley.
She wrote an article called Women Beware Science: The Birthmark . Alymer simply looks at his
wife as someone he can control and wants nothing for her but to be perfect. Fetterley says, It is
the demonstration of how to murder your wife and get away with it. This story brings a lot of
talk of sexual politics and the way women are sometimes looked at in society. The way some
society members describe women are supposed to honor the man and never have any power over
the man, in The Birthmark it is clear that Alymer looks at Georgiana as a women that is his own
property and should be perfect in every aspect according to him. The gender portion comes into
play when the question is asked, what if it was a man obsession with another man to be perfect or a
womanobsession for a man to be perfect? In The Birthmark Alymer did not wish for Aminadab his
servant to be perfect. It is all about gender

This internship made me realize exactly what I want to do after I graduate. I want to be a
financial analyst, and if all goes well, after the two year internship at the bank, I would love to
get a full time offer by the bank and become a financial analyst and stay in the same department.
Working with the people in my team is truly a great opportunity. The bank s culture is what I
would want any institution s culture to be. One aspect the bank seems to value and try their best
to make as great as possible is the diversity and inclusion of the employee s. It is a very diverse
community and it makes me feel very welcome. One other benefit if I were to be hired as full
time is that if I want to pursue graduate school, I would be reimbursed. At this moment, I know
that I eventually want to go to graduate school and pursue my masters, but I m not exactly sure if I
want to get it right after I get my undergraduate degree or wait a couple of years. But just knowing

  • 2. The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar Characterized to Be Emasculated Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar, Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney /Pixar releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472). However, Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity stripped by another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong male model to the New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in each of the movies who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an effeminate identity. Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards any forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male qualities were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the main emotions that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration (474). Why did Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? • 3. Social Media s Influence On Human Interaction In today s society, social media has caused us to demote human interaction and reward imitation connections and communications, making it hinder us from maintaining close personal relationships. We would rather talk to someone over the screen then over coffee, and only identify the worthy aspects of our life and disregard the undesirable. This want and desire through social media for a false persona and false ties gives us an aesthetic good life , but ultimately hinders us from reaching a genuine good life . Social media has replaced most human to human interaction, leading to decreased physical and mental abilities, making some lives less desirable. In Robert Waldingers TED Talk, The Harvard Study of Adult Development, his second lesson learned was that people who are more socially connected to family and friends are happier, physically healthier, and live longer. When this study took place, social media had not yet been revealed, leaving them with minimal options on how to communicate with people. Social media has changed the way that individuals interact, and in a sense, humans themselves. We find ourselves conversing more and more over social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, but when faced with actually face to face contact, are found speechless. With this new technology, more and more are likely to not become as connected to friends and family as the subjects were in the study, decreasing their overall happiness and hindering society. • 4. The United States Civil War Essay The United States Civil War can be considered as one of the darkest times in American history. The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh and whether or not they accomplished this goal. In this essay, the Confederacy s goals for attacking Grant s troops at Shiloh and their failure to accomplish those goals will show just how unsuccessful the Confederate army truly was at this battle.1 There had been decades of tension between the Southern and Northern states of America. • 5. The Ignored Lessons Of Anne Frank, By Bruno Bettelheim Everyone seeks the approval or ratification of other individuals, whether it is a doctor seeking the approval of peers, or individuals complying with the wishes of their doctors, as a means of pleasing them. Ratification can be dangerous as individuals give power to those from which they seek ratification. This can lead to relying on deception in the pursuit of ratification, as well as others completely complying with those they deem as experts, in pursuit of the doctors ratification. The article The Ignored Lessons of Anne Frank, written by Bruno Bettelheim, A Holocaust survivor and former professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, provides evidence that supports experts abusing power in pursuit of ratification. Likewise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She did all of this despite obtaining none of the qualification required to diagnose mental disorders, as she is a doctor of anthropology and has never obtained a PhD in Psychology. Where she abused her power by presenting herself as a doctor of psychology, was where she gains access to a local mental hospital by presenting herself as such, stating in her article that one day each week for a period of three months I observed, interviewed, and tested young patients of the district mental hospital (587). This shows her grievous abuse of power to further her research project, the purpose of which is to gain the ratification of her peers. Likewise, Dr. Bruno Bettelheim demonstrates a similar abuse of power by an expert, both in his article, and in his fabricated credentials. Dr. Bettelheim fabricated his credentials in that he presented himself as a doctor of psychology, when he was not, and used these false credentials to live as a professor at the University of Chicago, lecturing, researching and conducting clinical practices when he was nowhere near qualified to do any of those activities (Finn). Yet in the article The Ignored Lesson of Anne Frank, Bettelheim states, As a prisoner in Buchenwald, I talked to hundreds of German Jewish prisoners who were brought there (Bettelheim pp.85) and concluded that they were too attached to their possessions to escape persecution, criticizing them in the process. • 6. Betty Williams Rights Activist How would you feel if you witnessed your child get stripped of his or her rights? How would you feel if your child was treated inhumanely in front of your very own eyes? Children should never be viewed as powerless or be limited of their rights. They should always receive the same rights given to everyone else in the world. People need to stand up, defend, and help children. That s exactly what Betty Williams did. Williams was a determined and hard working peace activist who devoted her life to helping children, and still does today. Had Betty Williams not acted as a representative for children and fought for them, life for children would never be the same. On May 22, 1943, Betty Williams became a face in this world. She was born in Belfast, which is located in Northern Ireland. Williams was part of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Life for them wasn t always like that. On August 10, 1976, Williams witnessed a horrific incident in her town. A mother was walking down the street with her children, and became victims in a hit and run situation. They were hit by a Provisional Irish Republican Army. All of the three children died, but their mother, Anne Maguire, survived. Unfortunately, Anne Maguire couldn t bear with the pain of her children s death, and took her own life. Williams noticed that nothing was done about the accident. This tragedy inspired her to represent children and ensure that they live good lives. As Williams once said, We want for our children, as we want for ourselves, our lives at home, at work, and at play to be lives of joy and peace ( Betty Williams 3). Soon after this occurrence, Williams came together with the aunt of the children that were killed, Mairead Maguire. Together, they fought for children. Webster s dictionary defines group dynamics as the interacting forces within a small human group; also, the sociological study of these forces. A well renown change management expert and social psychologist Kurt Lewin. He created the phrase group dynamics in the mid 1940 s (Moreno,1953) He has written quite a bit about individuals choosing a distinctive characteristics and conduct when placed in a group. He studied the influence of the distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno, 1953). I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to work as a group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences, as well as horror stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years, and I could tell early on whether the team I am assigned to would be a positive experience or negative experience. There are indicators that stand out clearly. The first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive, is there trust amongst the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects, and is the team striving for a shared goal. When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and progress is not made. The team is not working at the optimum level that a company requires to remain successful and competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have noted that teams with positive ... • 8. The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Hueshi Hanif Kueishi s Buddha of Suburbia depicts a young man called Karim Amir and his search for identity in 1970s London. As the plot progresses, it becomes apparent that Karim does not fall into a distinct category, defined by sexuality, class, or race. He is a young mixed race man with fluid sexuality. He is a funny kind of Englishman a product of two old histories (Kureishi 3). He is placed in the position of a hybrid because of his cultural background, and by the endless racist encounters that occur in his life. He is not a traditional protagonist who fully belongs to one social group or identity. The narrative ultimately brings Karim to a realization that it is impossible for him to find a place in the society. Karim s character dismantles the normativemovement of adolescence into a societally accepted adulthood, and the societal expectations that discriminate against him because he is almost English. By residing in a queer space and time in the Buddha of Suburbia, Karim not only subverts the conventional construction of adulthood, but also withstands the hegemonies of race that affect him as a half Indian living in London. Often placed as the Other, Karim rejects both extremes. He rejects England s racialized view of him, and normative ideas of home, and family. He acknowledges his odd mixture of continents and blood, of here and there, of belonging or not and sets out to look for trouble, which would distract him from his gloomy, slow and heavy family life (3). ... • 10. Plato s Theory Of Form Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotlecriticizes Plato s theory of Form because it only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures. In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which is the force that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or function of the thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the thing in question exists. To further this point, Orenstein mentions how even now, in a show that is supposed to be about teaching other languages, Dora the Explorer, has turned into Dora finding a fairy tale land where she becomes a princess at the end of her two part movie. • 16. What Is The Chinese Room Argument John Searle 1980(in Cooney, 2000), provides a thought experiment, commonly referred to as the Chinese room argument (CRA), to show that computers, programmed to simulate human cognition, are incapable of understanding language. The CRA requires us to consider a scenario where Searle, who is illiterate in Chinese, finds himself locked in a room with a book containing Chinese characters. Additionally, he has another book which has a set of instructions written in English (which he understands), that allows him to match and manipulate the Chinese characters so that he can provide appropriate written responses (in Chinese) to incoming questions, which are also written in Chinese. Moreover, Searle has a pile of blank paper with which he uses to jot down his answers. Subsequently, Searle becomes so proficient in providing responses that the quality of his answers matches that of a native Chinese speaker. Thus, Searle in the CR functions as a computer would, where he is the system while the books are the program and the blank paper acts as storage. • 23. Plato And The Euthyphro Dilemma Siddhanth Goyal Does morality stem from God? Or does it exist independently of his presence, not subject to arbitrary decisions? The first discussion over these questions appeared in Plato s Euthyphro, in which Plato chronicles the proceedings of a highly repetitive argument between Socrates and Euthyphro, a prophet and holy man, over the nature of piety and holiness. The questions produced in this dialogue have been expanded to remain relevant even in a modern religious context. It has achieved so much fame that the core question presented in this dialogue is now known as the Euthyphro Dilemma. According to this theory, there are no moral standards that exist without God s will, and without his commands, nothing would be right or wrong. God is omnipotent, and therefore, morality itself is derived from God s nature. Without God, there is no basis for our moral structure and under this, what is moral is so because God has decreed it as such. This theory would stress the complete sovereignty of God s will, and the concept that morality exists based not on reason, or any logical basis, but simply due to the arbitrary nature of God s commands. This theory proposes that there is no rationale, moral or immoral, behind divine commands, and hence renders both his commands and morality subject to his whims. On this theory, God could have commanded, for example, for one to kill an innocent child, and it would have been mandatory for a person to do it. Abhorrent acts, or ones we would consider as such, are automatically pious, simply because God has decreed it, though many, including those who might be inclined to side with the this theory, would agree that they are abhorrent. The theory also rules out the option of assuming that God is just an agent of morality, not its progenitor, leaving the devotee with a puzzling quandary. On the other hand, rejecting the divine command theory, and accepting that moral principles exist independently of divine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Big Mama Presley s Comparison While there are some similarities between Willie Mae Big Mama Thornton and Elvis Presley s versions of the song Hound Dog, I am of the opinion that there were more differences. The obvious similarities would be the lyrics retained in Elvis version of the song, though the interpretation of those lyrics were very different. Perhaps what I feel is colored by growing up in a household where my mother was an Elvis fan who played his version, and my father, who was a coal miner s son born in the 1920s in the hills of Virginia, sang and played a much loved copy he had of Big Mama Thorntons version. While my father masculinized the song when he sang it, he did so retaining much of the spirit Thornton s recording had. Electricity In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath Electricity in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath signifies Esther s evolving condition; it describes both a domineering and destructive force that she imagines from the beginning of the novel, and experiences later in the form of electroshock, but it also describes her sexual awakening and development as someone capable of adult intimacy. These two forms of electricity are radically different, yet both relate to powerful moments in Esther s life as a young adult. While electricity in the form of electrocution and electroshock becomes associated with punishment and a loss of control over oneself, static electricitymarks Esther s transition from an almost childlike idea of romance, absent of sexual intimacy, to an adult who embraces that sexual intimacy as part of love. In the first paragraph, the novel refers to electricity and connects it to events that are public and associate with punishment, which Esther then quickly personalizes and relates to her own disgust, horror, and some subtle indication of attraction. The novel opens with the description of how, It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn t know what I was doing in New York (XX). There have been many theories answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging. • 43. Theories And Research Of Educational Psychology Select one area of applied psychology in this module. Discuss how theory and research in this area has been helpful or unhelpful in addressing human problems. Educational psychology has produced a vast array of theory and research that can be applied to educational settings to address problems that may occur. This essay will discuss how helpful, or not so helpful, research and theory has been in dealing with problems found in schools such as morality and understanding how children learn in order to create a rounded curriculum. Piaget was the first to create a systematic study of cognitive development, and although he did not specifically relate his theory to education others have gone on to do so. This has had many implications in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is support for this idea as according to Piaget practice on a task that you are not biologically ready for should not improve performance until sufficiently mature. Research supports this argument as it has been found that children aged 10 and 13 did not improve on formal operational tasks when tutored, but 17 years olds did (Danner Day, 1977) as Piaget s theory would expect. Therefore, the concept of readiness may be helpful in understanding why children may not show improvement on challenging tasks even with tutoring. If this is the case then teachers should revise the material they are teaching to make sure their age group is biologically ready to interpret the material. On the other hand, there is research that also contradicts the idea that a child has to be biologically ready to be able to learn something. Bryant and Trabasso (1971) showed that children in the pre operational stage could be trained to solve some logical tasks which, according to Piaget s theory they should not be able to do. Instead, they argued that children s failure was due to memory restrictions and not an absence of logical thinking that appears in the operational stage. They showed that when given suitable training 4 year olds showed good performance on these tasks. They then suggested that it is practice and not readiness that matters when children are learning new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Psychological Factor That Affect Sports Performance Arousal is a psychological factor that can affect sports performance and is defined as the level of activation or readiness that an individual will experience when faced with a task (Malpeli 2010, pg. 369). Effective performance requires an athlete to achieve optimal arousal which can be recognised in certain arousal theories (Malpeli 2010, pg. 369). The level of arousal that is considered to be optimal varies among every individual (Abernethy 2013, pg. 304). High arousal can affect performance as it often leads to more tense muscles, higher blood pressures, heart rates and respiration rates (Abernethy 2013, pg. 302). In comparison to high arousal, low arousal can lead to a lack of motivation, tiredness, lethargic muscles and a drop in enthusiasm and concentration and therefore a decrease in performance (Malpeli 2010, pg. 369). Personality is another psychological factor that can affect sports performance and can be defined as the multiple characteristics in which an individual possesses to make them unique (Abernethy 2013, pg. 298). People who are usually introverted like things more quiet and are often good at concentrating whereas people who are extroverts are generally more excited and lack concentration which can affect sports performance (Honeybourne 2003). It can be seen that people with certain traits or characteristics will potentially perform better in particular sports (Abernethy 2013, pg. 299).
