Analysis Of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried ...

Male love in The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from
Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by
telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect
them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the
experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these
soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place,
the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a
stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense
and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details
depicting and technique of repetition.
Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show
the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam war, but
is more about the things that they carried, and the emotions and stories behind these things. All
soldiers bring some small items, like comic books and hunting hatchets, which contain their memory
from the past, to the war. My girl. What about her? The picture, it was

IV Therapy Complications
Issues Intravenous fluid therapy has been used for almost 200 years and remains a fundamental part of
hospital patient care. There is always danger involved with prescribing and giving people iv fluids.
The wrong administration of IV fluids such as the incorrect volume or the incorrect type of fluid could
result in serious complications. Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVCs) are a tool in the delivery of
patient care. PIVCs enable people to have therapies such as medications, fluids and nutrition to reach
patients quickly and effectively through the bloodstream. A study found a complication rate for PIVCs
in place for 96 hours to be close to 50 percent. Some of the most recognized complications of PIVCs
are phlebitis, occlusion, infiltration and extravasation and IV infection. Some of these complication
could and in the past have caused death among patients. Many complications with IV fluids are
leading up to more dangers complications. Most can be treated but they are very painful but some
complications are life threatening such as deep thrombophlebitis caused by the building of a clot in a
blood vessel. Some complications caused by IV therapy are very costly such as occlusion because
they have to replace the catheter. Also many effects caused by IV therapy cannot be noticeable until
the IV is taken off. This is very dangers because if the complication is not treated over a period of time
it could evolve into something more dangers. In this project I will describe

Evaluating Areas Of Conflict In The Workplace
There are a variety of areas of conflict within my organization. In my opinion the conflicting areas are
as follows lack of communication, leadership skills, management skills, and the lack of productive
workers. As a results of these conflicting areas many of the employees within my organization are
experiencing a lot of stress and are at risk of burning out. In order to reduce the level of stress within
the workplace many of the productive workers have determined that it is more appropriate to do the
bare minimum and are becoming less productive. Those who have burned out no longer have strong
work ethic, instead their professional work ethic has become weak and pretty miniscule. How I work
through these conflicts are pretty simple I take

Essay On John Donne
John Donne was an English Poet, Priest and outsider. He was born into a devout catholic family in
1572 in London, however, he did not stay true to his families Catholic beliefs. Donne grew up as a
catholic in a rough period in England when the anti Roman period was reaching new heights. This of
course caused problems for him until the 1590 s when he returned to London from his studies abroad
in Theological issues and converted to the English church. During these early days of his life, Donne
converted because his brother was imprisoned for being Catholic and later died in prison. With Donne
now in the English Church writing he soon became the secretary to Sir Thomas Egerton, Lord Keeper
of the great seal. While for many this would prove to be the beginning of a great career, it would soon
end. This was because he secretly married the teen niece of Egerton, Ann More, in 1601. He was then
forced to move away to the countryside living in a poverty stricken lifestyle. Although having twelve
kids and living in poverty seems horrible, Donne still thrived in his poetry. According to Wendy
Smith, Poetry written during those years limns an ecstatic physical and emotional union with an
intelligent, passionate companion. Perhaps this blissful society of two was the home Donne had been
looking for (7). However, his wife died and his poetry took another unexpected turn, as it became
more dark and not as full of love. As the years went on Donne slowly began to get sick more

Self-Reliance Vs Transcendentalism
Autonomy Being able to rely on one s own capabilities and judgements or resources is called self
reliance. Self reliance was a key attribute to obtain during the Transcendentalism time period. This
period was a direct reaction of the Age of Reason. The Transcendentalist era lasted from about 1826 to
1860 and also ran as a part of the Age of Romance. During this time, the primary beliefs were that
people understood that God and everything going on was in direct correlation with nature. Another
popular belief was that everything was connected by an oversoul. Passages that demonstrate self
reliance perfectly are Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walden, or Life in the Woods by
Henry David Thoreau. Although inferior to Walden, or Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Self reliance was a major factor in this era. Both works demonstrate great examples of self reliance.
Both authors contributed a huge amount to the Transcendentalist era, even though one actually lived
out what the other one preached. Although inferior to Walden, or Life in the Woods, Self Reliance is
still a strong transcendental piece about being able to fully rely on yourself, it is just not as in depth
and detailed about the true transcendental life. Both Walden, or Life in the Woods, and Self Reliance,
show examples of independence, reliance on one s abilities, and having the ability to make a life on
your own. The Transcendentalist time period was truly one for the history books. Many people were
too scared to be individual and stand out, while others lived the true life of a transcendental, free of all
worries, and being free to make whatever choice they

Essay International Adoption
International Adoption
The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million
orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care
within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14).International adoption in the United States was
jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war
had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the
United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children.
Americans often fail to realize the need for intervention within their own country and their duty to
take care of domestic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this sense of subordination women in poor countries [feel as if] they and their children serve as
commodities for privileged Western people ( qtd. in Hollingsworth 48:209). A sense of vulnerability
leads several women in developing countries to believe that they have to give their children up to
wealthy Americans because of the high status of the American people. The implementation of acts
such as manipulating illiterate mothers, infants taken by force, and the paying of young girls to have
children are just a few ways that the naïve are taken advantage of (Hollingsworth 48:209). When
Americans adopt children that were gained through these unjust acts, it is as if Americans are
supporting the injustice, regardless of their previous knowledge of the existence of such situations
(Hollingsworth 48:209). By stopping international adoption, these acts of injustice would not be able
to continue and families would not face exploitation. Not only are families exploited but also the
children involved. In poor countries, disabled children face discrimination along with older children.
These children are often forgotten about, since the foreign adoption of these children does not bring
enough money to corrupted governments (Wingert, vol.151). Gender discrimination is also taking
place. Hollingsworth uses statistics to show this gender discrimination since in 1997, seventy eight
percent of the children

Perotin Is Hailed As A Kind Of Mozart Of His Time
Pérotin is hailed as a sort of Mozart of his time. He was a scholarly musician and musical innovator .
Pérotin is called by many different names: Perotinus his Latin Name and Perotinus Magnus Pérotin
the Great ; and even optimus discantor , or great composer of discant. According to Hussman, Pérotin
was a court composer for Notre Dame, but his connection to Notre Dame is not entirely confirmed. It
is because of an account by the English traveler Anonymous IV and letters to a Bishop that it is
accepted that Pérotin was associated with Notre Dame. Whether he wrote specifically for Notre Dame
or not, Pérotin wrote magnificent music that has been preserved for several centuries to this day .
The life of Pérotin is uncertain and full of speculation. Different scholars have very diverse ideas of
Pérotin s life. Tischler believed that Pérotin was born sometime between 1155 and 1160. He also
stated that he was a pupil of Leonin, the composer of the Magnus liber. Pérotin is believed to have to
have been a better organum composer the Leonin himself and even revised the Magnus liber at the end
of the 12th century between 1180 and 1190 . In revising the Magnus liber, Pérotin composed and
inserted his own clausula and puncta, such as Alleluya Nativitas into the Magnus liber. The works of
Pérotin are known to be beautiful and thoughtfully voiced with colorful textural harmonies. Sometime
after revising the Magnus liber, Pérotin began composing three voice organum. Later in his life,

The Human Brain Is An Interesting Artifact
There has only ever been one animal that has ever had dominion over all biodomes in the Earth. They
re all over the world, and have been since nearly the beginning of time. It seems like wherever and
whenever you look, this animal is there. Please allow for the introduction of the... DRAGON!!!
Dragons are seriously everywhere. But why? Why is it that nearly every culture developed the dragon
individually? Well, since they ve been around so long, it could, be argued that the dragon has been
hardwired into the human mind. The human brain is an interesting artifact. It can over complicate the
simple and make a mockery of the convoluted. It can understand something as easy as one two three
and as crazy as those confounding emotions. Speaking of which, what is emotion? Specifically, what
is fear? What makes someone feel fear? Scientifically speaking, ...fear is controlled by a small,
almond shaped structure called the amygdala. (Zielinski) Okay, so this little gland has the ability to
make anyone suddenly lose control of their cognition? Not quite, and not always. In a study done by
Justin Fienstein, John Wemmie, and a team of other graduate students from the University of Iowa, 3
patients who had suffered from a disease called Urbach Wiethe Disease were put to the test of feeling
fear. Urbach Wiethe damages the Amygdala, causing those who suffer from this disease to not feel
fear the way most people do. Even after having a patient do things that would make most everyone s

American Middle Eastern Minority
One of the least known minority groups in the United States is the Middle Eastern minority. Although
the place of Middle Easterners became the forefront of public discussions recently, especially with
relation to Islam and terrorism after 9/11, Middle Easterners in the United States have a long history.
They have become part of the American society, and many second and third generation Americans
with Middle Eastern background have become publicly recognizable figures, working in the business,
political, entertainment, and media sectors as well as the U.S. military. Among these figures are
General John Abizaid, Apple Inc. co founder Steve Jobs, actress Shannon Elizabeth, Miss USA

Majority of Middle Eastern Americans are of Arab descent although there is a sizable population of
Iranian Americans. It is estimated that at least 1.7 Americans are of Arab descent and over 300,000
Americans are of Iranian descent. Iranian Americans are largely concentrated in the states of
California, Texas, and Washington D.C., while Arab Americans live in all 50 states. One third of all

The Pros And Cons Of Pantheism

I don t believe that by holding the conviction of an infinite looping universe will put as much strain
and questions to the said already existing conceptions as we think it would. I already spoke about how
equally absurd pantheism and monotheism is in the eyes of science . Yes, we can say that monotheism,
on one hand, satisfies the need for an (As Aquinas would say it); uncaused mover, whereas for
pantheism, they do not propose the idea that there exists a god/God, well at least in the traditional
sense (ie a divine entity) which also from a completely scientific standpoint (the God hypothesis) is
not a falsifiable hypothesis. Science claims that if God were to exist, there are certain pre requisites
that ought to be met to show that he exists, unfortunately, God as we both know him to be, does not fit
the criteria of an existing god , well at least according to a purely naturalistic biased scientific view. So

Hip hop music contains more than just empty meanings; it can educate, motivate and encourage. In
addition, it possesses the power to inform one about current technology and urban life. Nevertheless,
since the start of the 21st century, hip hop has lost its originality by focusing on topics such as sex,
money, and drugs, rather than its original roots which educated on meaningful issues such as racism,
police brutality, and segregation. A good example of this would be Tupac Shakur s song Changes.

Dear White People Sparknotes
The Scientific Revolution made and advancement in what was called the empirical method. In the
Humanistic Tradition Gloria Fiero, the author states This method of inquiry depends on direct
observation and scientific experimentation as the bases from which one arrives at general conclusions
(Fiero pg.114) as she defines was the empirical method. Francis Bacon was an English scientist and
politician who advocated this method. Bacon was a believer in new ideas and he argued against
traditional and religious belief. Bacon published one of his work called Novum Organum which
according to Fiero it impassioned plea for objectivity and clear thinking and the strongest defense of
the empirical method ever written (Fiero pg.115). Bacon believed that the four false notions prevented
clear thinking. Dear White People directed by Justin Simien is a film that in comparison to Bacon s
Novum Organum tells a story about African American students attending a college in which they deal
with racial discrimination from a white college. In Bacon s Novum Organum he defines the four false
notions as idols of the Tribe, idols of the cave, idols if the marketplace, and idols of the theatre. He
first goes to define what he considers idols of the tribe to be, in which he explains are the human
mistakes one seems to make which are uncontrollable. He addresses For it is false assertion that the

Attending School Year
The winter weather in the U.S. can be very unpredictable, and can disrupt school for any period of
time. The southern most states generally don t have to worry about it, but anything can happen as you
travel farther north. I have had first hand experience with crazy winter weather since I live in
Michigan. In past years my school has been close to extending the school year, but have never actually
had to do so. I believe if there has been a very significant amount of school canceled then a
combination of actions should be taken.
First, a certain amount of extra school should be added on to the year if the winter was severe enough,
but should not exceed a week or maybe two. The reason the school year should not exceed two extra
weeks is because motivation of students would decline drastically. If a school were to exceed two
weeks, I believe the students would be so unmotivated that the material that they learned would be
close to useless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a school were to have an intense winter they should not add days to the year for anything
unnessicary. Doing so would most likely cause students to become unenthusiastic about their school

In conclusion, schools should have the right to extend the school year if a vicious winter caused
cancellations. However, in my opinion, the smartest decision would to cut the days added on to a
reasonable amount for the students sake. In doing so. schools could successfully catch up on lost time

Comparison of how Orwell in 1984 and Ishiguro in Never Let...
Comparison of how Orwell in 1984 and Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go use failure and futility in human
relationships as a theme in their dystopian novels
As humans, we judge ourselves by how others perceive us and seek to conform to a universally
accepted code of ethics and laws. It is this inherent value that we possess, a conscience that make us
different from animals and it is also what is missing to a large extent in Orwell s 1984 and Ishiguro s
Never Let Me Go . The futility of relationships in these works is part of what makes the worlds in
which they are based seem so bereft of hope and consequently, dystopia in nature.
In Orwell s vision of humanity s future, the only truly acceptable thing to love is Big Brother. The
Party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional structure of society in Never Let Me Go is altered, as there is clearly a subsection of
humanity that the donors inhabit which is not apparent in our own lives. However, Ishiguro s world is
not so different from our own, Hailsham seems like it could easily be a twentieth century boarding
school with the result that the events have a more profound effect on the reader. Orwell uses a slightly
different technique as the structure of human life is reduced in 1984 rather than altered. It is carried
out up to the point where, No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend . Instead they turn to the only
thing in their life that seems concrete, Big Brother. The Spies are the ultimate example of this because
the Party has managed to sever the paternal bond, which should be stronger than almost anything else.
The extent to which this is achieved is shown by Parson declaring he is, proud of his daughter for
denouncing him as it proves that he, brought her up in the right spirit. It is as though the greatest
achievement for a parent has become to create a tool for the party. Winston sums this up by saying,
The terrible thing the Party has done was to persuade you that mere impulses, mere feelings, were of
no account, while at the same time robbing you of all power over the material world. To protect and
nurture your offspring is a natural instinct, but the Party has removed this and in doing so has reduced
humanity. It is this that

Pros And Cons Of Tasers
In this current period of time, police men and women have an even bigger target on their backs
compared to times of the past. In the past year, we as students have had a very unique opportunity as
criminal justice majors to see some interesting events unfold, such as the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, a
number of allegedly wrongful deaths done by the police s hands, to the riots in Baltimore. With all of
this happening, I feel that the use of technology and militarization is beneficial to the men and women
across America who serve as police officers. Along with this, not only is it more beneficial to police,
but it could be more beneficial to civilians as well. For Example, one of the new advances that police
use that are beneficial are tasers. Tasers are less lethal compared to firearms, but are effective enough
to subdue a suspect. Of course there are critics of taser use, but more concrete studies show increased
level of suspect resistance are generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Protection of the people is one of the police s most important jobs, and if that means we adopt a more
militaristic style of policing compared to a more community based policing style, then so be it. For
example, a study was done on the Long Beach Police and found the department became more focused
on tactical concerns such as patrol and counter terrorism while abandoning policing activities such as
foot patrol. (Lee, 2010). Now, I am not an expert on the crime patterns in Long Beach, however, I
believe it would be safe to say the crime levels have dropped due to the militarization, as would be
criminals may be more likely to wimp out , knowing the police have the weapons they need in order to
stop them. Finally, with all of the tools available to the police in this time of militarization, they should
be able to handle just about any situation that they may come into contact with, which is a very good

An Initial Link Effect On Gambling Behavior
Suboptimal choice: An initial link effect on gambling behaviour
Introduction
Human gambling often involves the decision to choose a low probability pay off, with the illusion of
gaining quick and easy money, over a high probability pay off. This reflects a form of suboptimal
choice behaviour. Suboptimal choice refers to the choice that does not result in the highest overall
reinforcement one could achieve. The probability of actually winning is slim to none when gambling,
but these behaviours are significantly popular. One of the most insidious behaviour humans engage in
is compulsive gambling, which had been associated with several negative outcomes for the
compulsive gambler and their loved ones. Thus, it is important to understand why humans make
suboptimal choices and ultimately know how to reduce the probability of such choices to occur
(Fantino, Navarro, O daly, 2005). Research on this topic aims to investigate the underlying
mechanisms involved such as the environmental factors influencing suboptimal behaviour, and the
behavioural process in making decisions.
Several animal studies have been used to investigate the underlying mechanisms of this suboptimal
choice behaviour (Cowie, Davison, Elliffe, 2011; Gipson, Alessandri, Zentall, 2009; Jimenez Gomez
Shahan, 2012; McDevitt, Dunn, Spetch, Ludvig, 2016; Spetch, Mondloch, Belke, Dunn, 1994; Stagner
Zentall, 2010; Zentall, 2014). The use of animal studies is particularly powerful in modeling similar

The Importance Of Literacy Pedagogies
Literacy pedagogies have a developing and complex history in education, intertwined with social and
cultural change and evolution. Each change has paved a new path for more significant approaches and
strategies, which cater to diverse learners allowing them to create meaning and communicate more
effectively. These literacy pedagogies brought out by the changes in education have both strengths and
weaknesses. As such, educators need to explore and understand the four knowledge processes
portrayed by Kalantzis, Cope, Chan and Dalley Trim; didactic, authentic, functional, and critical
literacy approach (2016), to be able to consider how they can influence teaching and learning so they
are able to make informed decisions with regards to their students literacy learning. Teaching is
becoming increasingly complex; this is particularly evident in the area of literacy. This paper will
explore the four literacy pedagogies, their limitations and their strengths, and how they have impacted
literacy learning within the Australian educational context.
During the 19th century, didactic literacy pedagogy was the first pedagogy to become prominent
subsequent to the mass obligatory, institutionalised education (Kalantzis et al., 2016, p.84). This
approach was widely seen during the Victorian era where education was seen to be teacher centered;
according to Watkins (1999), this approach can also be seen in Australian education during the 1970s
and 1980s. During this time this pedagogy was

The Management System Of An Organization
Introduction In recent years, a lot of organizations have emphasized more on efficiency and
effectiveness due to higher rate of competition in the industry. This shift in focus is meant to allow
organization to deliver the best in class product and service by improving the key performance metrics
(Institute for Operation Excellence, 2012). Operation excellence focuses on the entire area of an
organization. The area of focus can be broken down into 3, behavior, management system, and
process. For any change to be sustainable, the people s behavior has to be such that can support it.
People s behavior and mindset has to change, everybody has to contribute regardless of what level of
organization. The management system piece is also a key because of the impact of management
support that is needed to promote operation excellence within an organization. Process is where it
directly impacts the product. It has to be improved to meet a best in class standard, either by line
balancing, implementing a lean flow, or by other form of improvement (Duggan, 2011). Every
employee involved should be able to see the value flow from the organization to the customer and vice
versa. Some industries struggle in their implementation of operation excellence. For a successful
implementation, there has to be a right definition, one that every employee at every level of the
organization understand what it means and how their role impacts it. As much as operation excellence
shows a lot of positive

The Types Of Bone Tissue
Bone tissue is a connective tissue with an abundant matrix of intercellular substances that encloses
widely separated cells. The bone matrix is made up of an inorganic component known as mineral salts
that hardens the bone, and an inorganic component collagen fibres and an amorphous mixture called
ground substance, which gives the bone its strength (Tortora, Grabowski 2001). There are three types
of cells that can be found in the bone, they are osteoblasts, osteoclasts and osteocytes. Osteoblasts are
the cells that synthesizes a specialized organic material called osteoid which is important in the build
up of mineralized bone, osteoclasts are relatively larger multi nucleate cells made up of mitochondria
and lysosomes that are responsible for the continuous erosion of bones. Lastly the last cells found in
the bone are osteocytes, these are adult osteoblast cells found in the lacunae that have been surrounded
by mineralized matrix. (Thibodeau, Patton 2003).Osteocytes are responsible for maintaining
metabolism within the bone such as the exchange of nutrients with the blood.
There are four types of bones short bones, long bones, flat bones and irregular bones, which have
different characteristics so at to be able to function effectively. Long bones are greater in length than
width and is made up of varying numbers of ends and a shaft, an example is the humerus which is
located in the arm. Short (sesamond) bones are almost as broad as they are long, such bones can be

Early Childhood Educator
As a future early childhood educator, I took it upon myself to get a better understanding of what my
future would look like. I began working at the Boys and Girls Club in the early childhood education
program, and it has been one of the most beneficial and inspirational parts of my life. While there, I
have worked with children who come from completely opposite sides of the socioeconomic, language,
and development spectrums. My first year gave me my greatest teaching dilemma I have faced yet.
Preschool girl twins were placed in my classroom after moving from Africa just days prior. Neither
girls nor mom could talk English, both girls wore the exact same clothing and hair every day, and they
always needed to be hand in hand. I was overwhelmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the boy and the girl have developmental differences. The girl is incredibly independent, a quick
learner, but is also highly sensitive and socially resistant. Her brother is especially dependent, slow to
learn, and extremely sensitive. I mostly worked with the boy and tried to understand who he is as a
person. I quickly learned that he will have a meltdown if something is wrong with his clothes like if he
spilt milk on his shirt and was wet or if there was a rock in his shoe and it hurt. I also observed that he
constantly has to be touching something whether it be another child, the pictures on the wall, the rug
on the ground, and anything in between. During a meltdown, I would talk to him on his level face to
face and stay calm when asking what is wrong and what can I do to help him. I continuously reassured
him that he has an extra shirt that is dry and all we have to do is take his shoe off to get the rock out. I
also changed the way that I taught him lessons by giving him physical objects of what we were talking
about to hold on to and feel. When it was circle time, he was given a small ball to hold on to and
manipulate as long as it was not distracting to other children or taking his attention away from the
lesson. My strengths in this experience were understanding his developmental tendencies and adhering
to them in a calm and productive

Americ A Great Success For The Europeans
Settling America was a great success for the Europeans, but not Native Americans. The New World
gave many a chance to move up in the social order and seek religious freedom. The poor were given
an opportunity to trade their labor for passage over as indentured servants and even some women
gained the right to conduct business and own property. Unfortunately Europe s gain harmed the Native
Americans greatly. Their population was decimated and they were pushed from their homes to make
room for new settlers. Though many benefitted, many were also harmed. Unlike most of history,
colonization helped many women gain more rights and respect. In order to have an equal gender ratio,
England sent tobacco wives (women sent to marry men in the ... Show more content on

After they had served out their contract they would be given freedom dues, land and money, for their

Economy of Europe was an important deciding factor for many colonizing the new world. Spanish
settlements were primarily for finding precious metals and other resources to send back to Spain,
using Indian labor for mining and anything else that needed to be done. Most countries were looking
for gold or resources to send back home. Colonies in the West Indies and South Carolina grew sugar,
other colonies grew tobacco. Due to that, they needed more labor for their plantations, giving the
opportunity to more people to come over. Virginia had lumber, which was used to build ships, which
were used to send other goods back to England. America became essential to international trade, and
even had trade agreements with the Indians, which was one of the time they did benefit from
colonization. More so than economic reasons, religion was the number one push factor for many to
move to America. Whether it was to spread their religion or for religious freedom, they were given the
opportunity to do both. The Puritans came to America for both those things. They wanted to spread
Protestantism among the natives, but their own reformed version, which they were persecuted for in
England. They created a society based on Puritanism, with the Church being the center of their

My Favorite Movies
Whenever I was dealing with any stress or problems, I would go to the movie theatre and sit down and
immerse myself in a two hour long film. And all of a sudden all my problems were not an issue. It s
like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a doctor s
recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve been anxious
about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make this theatre my safe
haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be made, so at the end of every
movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after watching an abundance of movies I
finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th
grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase, because my mom said so. At the time I had no
equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right,
maybe it was all phase. Like I had said going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the
movies I watched were made with computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it
made your jaw drop. However this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty
years ago. This began the love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future,
sparked the thought I don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching

Ice Hockey Is The Highest Level For Men s Hockey
Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use
their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent s net to score points. Ice hockey
teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two goaltenders.
Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score
a goal against the opposing team. Teams normally have a goaltender as their sixth on ice player, whose
job is to prevent the puck from entering the goal.

The contemporary sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Winsor, where the
first hockey game was played on March 3, 1875. Some characteristics of that game, such as the length
of the ice rink and the use of a puck, have been retained to this day. Amateur ice hockey leagues began
in the 1880s, and professional ice hockey originated around 1900. The Stanley Cup, emblematic of ice
hockey club supremacy, was first awarded in 1893 to recognize the Canadian amateur champion and
later became the championship trophy of the NHL. In the early 1900s, the Canadian rules were
adopted by the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace, the precursor of the IIHF and the sport was
played for the first time in the Olympics in the Olympic Games of 1920.

  • 2. Analysis Of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried ... Xizhao Liu(Amber) American Literature Essay #3 Nov. 11, 2016 Male love in The Things They Carried The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details depicting and technique of repetition. Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam war, but is more about the things that they carried, and the emotions and stories behind these things. All soldiers bring some small items, like comic books and hunting hatchets, which contain their memory from the past, to the war. My girl. What about her? The picture, it was ... • 3. IV Therapy Complications Issues Intravenous fluid therapy has been used for almost 200 years and remains a fundamental part of hospital patient care. There is always danger involved with prescribing and giving people iv fluids. The wrong administration of IV fluids such as the incorrect volume or the incorrect type of fluid could result in serious complications. Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVCs) are a tool in the delivery of patient care. PIVCs enable people to have therapies such as medications, fluids and nutrition to reach patients quickly and effectively through the bloodstream. A study found a complication rate for PIVCs in place for 96 hours to be close to 50 percent. Some of the most recognized complications of PIVCs are phlebitis, occlusion, infiltration and extravasation and IV infection. Some of these complication could and in the past have caused death among patients. Many complications with IV fluids are leading up to more dangers complications. Most can be treated but they are very painful but some complications are life threatening such as deep thrombophlebitis caused by the building of a clot in a blood vessel. In my opinion the conflicting areas are as follows lack of communication, leadership skills, management skills, and the lack of productive workers. As a results of these conflicting areas many of the employees within my organization are experiencing a lot of stress and are at risk of burning out. • 6. Essay On John Donne John Donne was an English Poet, Priest and outsider. He was born into a devout catholic family in 1572 in London, however, he did not stay true to his families Catholic beliefs. Donne grew up as a catholic in a rough period in England when the anti Roman period was reaching new heights. This of course caused problems for him until the 1590 s when he returned to London from his studies abroad in Theological issues and converted to the English church. During these early days of his life, Donne converted because his brother was imprisoned for being Catholic and later died in prison. With Donne now in the English Church writing he soon became the secretary to Sir Thomas Egerton, Lord Keeper of the great seal. While for many this would prove to be the beginning of a great career, it would soon end. This was because he secretly married the teen niece of Egerton, Ann More, in 1601. He was then forced to move away to the countryside living in a poverty stricken lifestyle. Although having twelve kids and living in poverty seems horrible, Donne still thrived in his poetry. According to Wendy Smith, Poetry written during those years limns an ecstatic physical and emotional union with an intelligent, passionate companion. Perhaps this blissful society of two was the home Donne had been looking for (7). However, his wife died and his poetry took another unexpected turn, as it became more dark and not as full of love. As the years went on Donne slowly began to get sick more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Self-Reliance Vs Transcendentalism Autonomy Being able to rely on one s own capabilities and judgements or resources is called self reliance. Self reliance was a key attribute to obtain during the Transcendentalism time period. This period was a direct reaction of the Age of Reason. The Transcendentalist era lasted from about 1826 to 1860 and also ran as a part of the Age of Romance. During this time, the primary beliefs were that people understood that God and everything going on was in direct correlation with nature. Another popular belief was that everything was connected by an oversoul. Passages that demonstrate self reliance perfectly are Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walden, or Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau. Although inferior to Walden, or Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Self reliance was a major factor in this era. Both works demonstrate great examples of self reliance. Both authors contributed a huge amount to the Transcendentalist era, even though one actually lived out what the other one preached. Although inferior to Walden, or Life in the Woods, Self Reliance is still a strong transcendental piece about being able to fully rely on yourself, it is just not as in depth and detailed about the true transcendental life. Both Walden, or Life in the Woods, and Self Reliance, show examples of independence, reliance on one s abilities, and having the ability to make a life on your own. The Transcendentalist time period was truly one for the history books. Many people were too scared to be individual and stand out, while others lived the true life of a transcendental, free of all worries, and being free to make whatever choice they ... As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14).International adoption in the United States was jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children. Due to this sense of subordination women in poor countries [feel as if] they and their children serve as commodities for privileged Western people ( qtd. in Hollingsworth 48:209). A sense of vulnerability leads several women in developing countries to believe that they have to give their children up to wealthy Americans because of the high status of the American people. The implementation of acts such as manipulating illiterate mothers, infants taken by force, and the paying of young girls to have children are just a few ways that the naïve are taken advantage of (Hollingsworth 48:209). When Americans adopt children that were gained through these unjust acts, it is as if Americans are supporting the injustice, regardless of their previous knowledge of the existence of such situations (Hollingsworth 48:209). By stopping international adoption, these acts of injustice would not be able to continue and families would not face exploitation. Not only are families exploited but also the children involved. In poor countries, disabled children face discrimination along with older children. These children are often forgotten about, since the foreign adoption of these children does not bring enough money to corrupted governments (Wingert, vol.151). Gender discrimination is also taking place. Hollingsworth uses statistics to show this gender discrimination since in 1997, seventy eight percent of the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Hussman, Pérotin was a court composer for Notre Dame, but his connection to Notre Dame is not entirely confirmed. It is because of an account by the English traveler Anonymous IV and letters to a Bishop that it is accepted that Pérotin was associated with Notre Dame. Whether he wrote specifically for Notre Dame or not, Pérotin wrote magnificent music that has been preserved for several centuries to this day . The life of Pérotin is uncertain and full of speculation. Different scholars have very diverse ideas of Pérotin s life. Tischler believed that Pérotin was born sometime between 1155 and 1160. He also stated that he was a pupil of Leonin, the composer of the Magnus liber. Pérotin is believed to have to have been a better organum composer the Leonin himself and even revised the Magnus liber at the end of the 12th century between 1180 and 1190 . In revising the Magnus liber, Pérotin composed and inserted his own clausula and puncta, such as Alleluya Nativitas into the Magnus liber. It is this inherent value that we possess, a conscience that make us different from animals and it is also what is missing to a large extent in Orwell s 1984 and Ishiguro s Never Let Me Go . • 26. An Initial Link Effect On Gambling Behavior Suboptimal choice: An initial link effect on gambling behaviour Introduction Human gambling often involves the decision to choose a low probability pay off, with the illusion of gaining quick and easy money, over a high probability pay off. This reflects a form of suboptimal choice behaviour. Suboptimal choice refers to the choice that does not result in the highest overall reinforcement one could achieve. The probability of actually winning is slim to none when gambling, but these behaviours are significantly popular. One of the most insidious behaviour humans engage in is compulsive gambling, which had been associated with several negative outcomes for the compulsive gambler and their loved ones. Thus, it is important to understand why humans make suboptimal choices and ultimately know how to reduce the probability of such choices to occur (Fantino, Navarro, O daly, 2005). Research on this topic aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms involved such as the environmental factors influencing suboptimal behaviour, and the behavioural process in making decisions. Several animal studies have been used to investigate the underlying mechanisms of this suboptimal choice behaviour (Cowie, Davison, Elliffe, 2011; Gipson, Alessandri, Zentall, 2009; Jimenez Gomez Shahan, 2012; McDevitt, Dunn, Spetch, Ludvig, 2016; Spetch, Mondloch, Belke, Dunn, 1994; Stagner Zentall, 2010; Zentall, 2014). The Management System Of An Organization Introduction In recent years, a lot of organizations have emphasized more on efficiency and effectiveness due to higher rate of competition in the industry. This shift in focus is meant to allow organization to deliver the best in class product and service by improving the key performance metrics (Institute for Operation Excellence, 2012). Operation excellence focuses on the entire area of an organization. The area of focus can be broken down into 3, behavior, management system, and process. For any change to be sustainable, the people s behavior has to be such that can support it. People s behavior and mindset has to change, everybody has to contribute regardless of what level of organization. The management system piece is also a key because of the impact of management support that is needed to promote operation excellence within an organization. Process is where it directly impacts the product. It has to be improved to meet a best in class standard, either by line balancing, implementing a lean flow, or by other form of improvement (Duggan, 2011). • 32. The Types Of Bone Tissue Bone tissue is a connective tissue with an abundant matrix of intercellular substances that encloses widely separated cells. The bone matrix is made up of an inorganic component known as mineral salts that hardens the bone, and an inorganic component collagen fibres and an amorphous mixture called ground substance, which gives the bone its strength (Tortora, Grabowski 2001). There are three types of cells that can be found in the bone, they are osteoblasts, osteoclasts and osteocytes. Osteoblasts are the cells that synthesizes a specialized organic material called osteoid which is important in the build up of mineralized bone, osteoclasts are relatively larger multi nucleate cells made up of mitochondria and lysosomes that are responsible for the continuous erosion of bones. Lastly the last cells found in the bone are osteocytes, these are adult osteoblast cells found in the lacunae that have been surrounded by mineralized matrix. (Thibodeau, Patton 2003).Osteocytes are responsible for maintaining metabolism within the bone such as the exchange of nutrients with the blood. • 33. Early Childhood Educator As a future early childhood educator, I took it upon myself to get a better understanding of what my future would look like. I began working at the Boys and Girls Club in the early childhood education program, and it has been one of the most beneficial and inspirational parts of my life. While there, I have worked with children who come from completely opposite sides of the socioeconomic, language, and development spectrums. My first year gave me my greatest teaching dilemma I have faced yet. Preschool girl twins were placed in my classroom after moving from Africa just days prior. Neither girls nor mom could talk English, both girls wore the exact same clothing and hair every day, and they always needed to be hand in hand. I was overwhelmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the boy and the girl have developmental differences. The girl is incredibly independent, a quick learner, but is also highly sensitive and socially resistant. Her brother is especially dependent, slow to learn, and extremely sensitive. I mostly worked with the boy and tried to understand who he is as a person. I quickly learned that he will have a meltdown if something is wrong with his clothes like if he spilt milk on his shirt and was wet or if there was a rock in his shoe and it hurt. I also observed that he constantly has to be touching something whether it be another child, the pictures on the wall, the rug on the ground, and anything in between. During a meltdown, I would talk to him on his level face to face and stay calm when asking what is wrong and what can I do to help him. I continuously reassured him that he has an extra shirt that is dry and all we have to do is take his shoe off to get the rock out. I also changed the way that I taught him lessons by giving him physical objects of what we were talking about to hold on to and feel. When it was circle time, he was given a small ball to hold on to and manipulate as long as it was not distracting to other children or taking his attention away from the lesson. My strengths in this experience were understanding his developmental tendencies and adhering to them in a calm and productive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New World gave many a chance to move up in the social order and seek religious freedom. The poor were given an opportunity to trade their labor for passage over as indentured servants and even some women gained the right to conduct business and own property. Unfortunately Europe s gain harmed the Native Americans greatly. Their population was decimated and they were pushed from their homes to make room for new settlers. Though many benefitted, many were also harmed. Unlike most of history, colonization helped many women gain more rights and respect. After they had served out their contract they would be given freedom dues, land and money, for their service. With that they were able to start their own farms and families and gain success. The failing Economy of Europe was an important deciding factor for many colonizing the new world. Spanish settlements were primarily for finding precious metals and other resources to send back to Spain, using Indian labor for mining and anything else that needed to be done. Most countries were looking for gold or resources to send back home. Colonies in the West Indies and South Carolina grew sugar, other colonies grew tobacco. Due to that, they needed more labor for their plantations, giving the opportunity to more people to come over. Virginia had lumber, which was used to build ships, which were used to send other goods back to England. America became essential to international trade, and even had trade agreements with the Indians, which was one of the time they did benefit from colonization. More so than economic reasons, religion was the number one push factor for many to move to America. Whether it was to spread their religion or for religious freedom, they were given the opportunity to do both. The Puritans came to America for both those things. They wanted to spread Protestantism among the natives, but their own reformed version, which they were persecuted for in England. They created a society based on Puritanism, with the Church being the center of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. My Favorite Movies Whenever I was dealing with any stress or problems, I would go to the movie theatre and sit down and immerse myself in a two hour long film. And all of a sudden all my problems were not an issue. It s like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a doctor s recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve been anxious about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make this theatre my safe haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be made, so at the end of every movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after watching an abundance of movies I finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase, because my mom said so. At the time I had no equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right, maybe it was all phase. Like I had said going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the movies I watched were made with computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it made your jaw drop. However this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty years ago. This began the love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future, sparked the thought I don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching a film made in 1986 ...
