The Collapse Of The Housing Crisis
Economists cite a plethora of reasons on why the Global Financial Crisis started. However, most
economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by
regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of
debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression.
The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the
initial trigger of the crisis. The beginning of the bubble was due to the readily available credit in the
U.S. that was fueled by a large influx of foreign funds following the Russian debt crisis and Asian
financial crisis. This led to a boom in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slumps in value made it difficult for banks to sell assets at almost any price or use them as collateral
for short term funding. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to
5.35%. The devaluation of homes caused them to be worth less than their mortgage loan, giving
consumers an incentive to foreclose on their mortgages. In addition, homeowners that were barely
able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with
the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon,
dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial
strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage
backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing
bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world
economy. With the collapse the housing bubble and the value of asset prices, banks began to doubt the
viability of their counterparties. Without trust, which is the ultimate glue of all financial systems,
banks stopped lending, which is the exact opposite of what banks are supposed to do. For example, the
investment bank BNP Paribas told investors that they would be unable to take out money from some

A Study Of Aneurysm Pathogenesis And Progression
Over the past 30 years, the study of aneurysm pathogenesis and progression has become a
multidisciplinary e ort involving a wide range of areas spanning from molecular cell biology to solid
and fluid mechanics. The studies have been motivated by the need of providing an swers to the
following questions [12]:
1. Formation:Whatcausesarterialaneurysmstoform?Whydoonlysomepeopledevelop aneurysms and
others don t? Why do aneurysms dominantly form at specific locations in certain arteries?
2. Growth: Which factors a ect aneurysm growth, once it has formed? Can aneurysm growth rate be

Therefore, it is standing to reason to assume, that aging plays an important role in AAA pathogenesis.
The assumption is, that
18
specific changes in the geometry of the vessel (length, diameter, and wall structure/sti ness) resulting
from the natural aging process combined with changes they induce in the hemo dynamics, are the
primary cause of aneurysm formation. This assumption postulates, that the mentioned coupling
induces a segment of the aortic wall to degrade and simultaneously leads to a gradually increase of its
diameter.
A lot of research has been devoted to the fundmental mechanisms of aging in the arteries. Generally
spoken, the aging process leads to an increase in the arterial diameter and a sti ening as well as
thickening of the arterial wall. The median layer undergoes the bigger changes thinning out and losing
its orderly arrangement of elastin laminas and fibers. The elastin laminas and fibers become
fragmented and unorganized leading to decreasing elastic properties and increasing the sti ness [16].
From fluid mechanical viewpoint, the speed of the pulse wave in the artery increases, as sti ness goes
up with age. It was shown, that the wave speed nearly doubles for a 60 year old adult compared to a
10 year old child (from 6.5 m/s to upwards of 11 m/s) [17].
Studies found out, that the aging iliac

How Does Lahiri Present Examples Of Unexpected Events In...
The train accident is a masterful example of the unexpected events in life and how different characters
in the novel react to them. This passage ultimately acts as a prompt for the immigration of Ashoke
Ganguli which consequently enables him begin a new life in America. The first aspect of this passage
is it s allusion to The Overcoat . Lahiri introduces the protagonist of this story in the line Immersed in
the sartorial plight of Akaky Akakyevich, lost in the wide, snow white, windy avenues of St.

Her use of interior monologue is particularly important and reveal the most, as it brings to surface the
subconscious thoughts of a character which would not of otherwise. In this passage, Lahiri provides a
mass of details of Ashoke s surroundings which he is noticing while he is trapped in a sea of dead
bodies. Anaphoric use of he remembers emphasises the impactful blow this accident has bestowed
upon Ashoke s memories and the uncontrollable trauma which continues to haunt him afterwards and
throughout the course of the novel. While there is not one explicit description to wards the current
thoughts and emotions of Ashoke, there really is no need for explicit since the devastating mood of the
passage is already so well embedded in the rush of sounds and sensations vividly described in this

Wake Up !-Personal Narrative
Soon after, Constantine left with Oliver, leaving Team Flash the time alone they needed, promising to
be a call away for anything. Once the speedster was back with his speedster suit on, mask off,
everyone ended in the cortex, closely watching the monitors to follow his vitals and the cell feed,
waiting for Barry to finally join them again. How were them even gonna break the news of what they
just did? The young man already hated them enough without adding that. Let me talk to him, when he

it. I m still here? Look like everything you tried failed, just as I predicted. Thanks for the nap, anyway.
The speedster coldly said. What do you want, old man? Pretty sure I already stated I never cared about
you. Even if Joe knew it wasn t really Barry talking, hearing the boy s voice say this statement was
piercing like a knife to the detective s heart, but he somehow found the strength to keep his neutral

Barry snorted as an answer. Really? Guess you re not as smart as I thought you were. Well, not that I

Analysis Of Virginia Woolf s Woolf
When it comes to reading infamous modernist novels and short stories, Virginia Woolf is the way to
go. Woolf was famous for a few of her famous novels, many short stories, and her feminist views that
were not as normalized as it is today. Because of her work and who she was as a person, Woolf s work
left a mark on the literary world in the twentieth century. Woolf s work is presented in many different
ways because of the many ways that she formed her thoughts onto paper. Woolf has her way with
different words and styles, which is why she is significant to our literacy world today. Virginia Woolf
was a British author who was a well educated, wealthy, essayist, and publisher, which was not
common for her time. Woolf obviously did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woolf s mother died in 1895, which would have made Woolf thirteen, and triggered her first of many
mental breakdowns. Woolf s father died in 1904. However, Woolf had a strained relationship with her
father so it was as upsetting as living through her mother s death. (Lovelady) Due to these morbid
events Woolf suffered from severe depression, mental breakdowns, possible bipolar disorder, and was
suicidal. Woolf s mental health issues would carry on into her adulthood and would somewhat affect
her writing. Woolf s characters in her novels/essays and how they act tie into her own mental health
issues. (Virginia Woolf Biography) Woolf started off her career as a journalist and started writing
professionally in 1900, making her eighteen years old. Woolf began writing for The Times Literary
Supplement in 1905, but ended up becoming the famous novelist the world knows of today. Woolf
moved to the city where she could get more inspiration and started writing. Woolf came out with her
first novel The Voyage Out in 1915, and then her career took off from there. (Virginia Woolf
Biography) At thirty years old, Woolf married Leonard Sidney Woolf. Woolf and her husband then
started a publishing company together called the Hogarth Press. Not only was Woolf famous for her
own writing, but her publishing company as well. During the prime of Woolf s career, the world was
at the peak of chaos. World War I had recently ended when most of Woolf s most famous works were

Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare
Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay
Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the most
popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden book, the
Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from the original
story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and similarities between
the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions.
There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is circles,
which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book is A pumpkin
rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is becoming complete
because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she marries. Another example
of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms version There she had to do hard
work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows wholeness in the morning when the
sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle. Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the
Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in
the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is coming complete because she has found her destiny
which is the price she meets at the ball.
The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the Little
Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the prince lived
happily ever after (12). This shows the them by the hard work Cinderella had to do at home and also it
means that because of all the hard work she got a reward which was to marry the prince and live the
life of her dreams. The theme for the 2015 Disney movie is Have Courage and be kind . This was
shown throughout the movie when Cinderella s mom told her have courage and be kind just before she
died. Also this is seen right before the prince s father died and tells his the same message. Cinderella
acted this way mainly because she was the princess not by blood,

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Henry David Thoreau s Civil...
Henry David Thoreau in his speech turned essay, Civil Disobedience, makes the case for individuals
to be self sufficient and independent. Thoreau s purpose is to illustrate the importance of those
qualities in everyday life and how someone should always keep these unwavering principles
throughout their existence. Utilizing diction, imagery and syntax, Thoreau adopts a forthright tone to
invoke independent thinking, action, and self contemplation in the American populace. Thoreau s
diction utilizes readers connotations of words and phrases to spark independent thought and
encouragement of individuals to challenge and to investigate beliefs. One such connotation is when
Thoreau discusses the government and its control over the people, comparing the government s tactics
to black arts (Thoreau 3). The phrase black arts typically refers to black magic, which is the idea of
invoking evil spirits to be used antagonistically. By using that phrase, Thoreau demonizes the
government by comparing its tactics to a fairy tale like villain, solidifying his view of the government
as purely diabolical with no redeeming qualities or factors to it. This demonization makes the
government become something seen as negative for the country. Thus, Thoreau aggressively
challenges how the government is viewed by the public and whether the fairly positive light it is given
is justified or not. Similarly, Thoreau uses the phrase a man the American government can make a
mere shadow and

battles of the civil war to help the wounded soldiers, she once said, I saw many things that I did not

The Importance Of Dress Codes
Throughout the years the debate over school dress has been a hot topic, while dress codes are nothing
new, they have been a growing issue that past few decades. According to Laura Birkett on the Toronto
Star, For as long as there have been teenagers, there have been adults aghast at their habits... often
expressed by their wardrobe ( Students Protest Dress Codes IN7). Dress codes pose to have no actual
effect on students in today s world. Birkett also explained that with dress code or without it kids will
do what they want and will still, most likely, grow up to me respectable adults in the working class (
Students Protest Dress Codes IN7). Dress codes have been proven unnecessary and therefore, have no
positive benefits on students.
Dress codes are also sending the wrong message to students about body shaming. Donna George for
the Washington Post reveals that, at a School in Maryland a young girl was called out for her leggings
which were said to be a distraction by the young girls teacher. School administrators are shown
supporting the body shaming of students when the mother of the young girl, Eboni Banks filed a civil
right complaint confirming that, Administrators are being allowed to discriminate and engage in body
shaming behaviors (George). The fact that school district employees are being given the right to
determine if a girl s clothes are too distracting or not makes the girl being victimized feel as if she s
doing something wrong and should be ashamed of

Network Is The Cooperative Engagement Of A Collection Of...
An ad hoc network is the cooperative engagement of a collection of mobile nodes without the required
intervention of any existing infrastructure or centralized access point. A wireless sensor network is
spatially distributed autonomous sensors which is used to monitor physical or environmental
conditions, such as temperature, sound, pressure, etc. and to cooperatively pass their data through the
network to a main location. Many ad hoc routing protocols and wireless sensor routing protocols are
based on some variant of flooding. Despite various optimizations, many routing messages are
propagated unnecessarily or some of the routing messages does not reach all the nodes in the network.
To overcome such problems we are proposing an adaptive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A sensor network is capable of processing, sensing and communicating which helps the base station or
command node to observe and react according to the condition in a particular environment (physical,
battle field, biological).
Sensor network protocols have a unique capability self organizing. Another interesting feature of
wireless sensor networks is that the sensor nodes cooperate with each other. Sensor nodes have an in
built processor, using which before transmission raw data is processed. These features facilitate wide
range of applications of wireless sensor networks like biomedical, environmental, military, event
detection and vehicular telematics.
Wireless networks of sensors are very much likely to be widely deployed in the future because they
greatly extend our ability to control and monitor the physical environment from remote locations.
Such networks can greatly improve the accuracy of information obtained via collaboration among
sensor nodes and online information processing at those nodes. Wireless sensor networks can also
improve remote access to sensor data by providing sink nodes that connect them to other networks,
such as the Internet, using wide area wireless links. If the sensors share their observations and
processes then that meaningful and useful information is available at the sink nodes, so users can
retrieve information from the sink nodes to monitor and control the environment from afar.
An ad hoc network is a network without any

McPherson and Hearn on Abraham Lincoln Essay
The presidency of Abraham Lincoln came during a highly radical and chaotic period of American
history. For historians such as James McPherson, they see Lincoln as the greatest leader in American
history. For McPherson, Lincoln succeeded in combining military pragmatism with the political
ideologies of the North, as well as Lincoln s own idealism, thus assuring Northern victory. However,
not all historians agree that Lincoln was a masterful tactician. Chester Hearn, believes that although
Abraham Lincoln was one of America s most venerable statesmen, his presidency was marked by
flaws and a general misunderstanding of how war is waged. McPherson s Tried by War and Hearn s

Although Hearn does not entirely refute the commonly view of Lincoln as a brilliant tactician and
morally inspired leader, he also provides many examples of Lincoln s failures. Many of the policies,
which McPherson celebrates, Hearn depicts as misguided and desperate.
Although James McPherson presents Lincoln as having numerous qualities that defined him as a
brilliant leader, he wastes no time in revealing what he believes to be Lincoln s greatest strength. In
his Introduction, McPherson states regarding Lincoln s political leadership: In a civil war whose
origins lay in a political conflict over the future of slavery and a political decision by certain states to
secede, policy could never be separated from national strategy.... And neither policy nor national
strategy could be separated from military strategy (McPherson, p.6). Lincoln could not approach the
war from a purely martial standpoint instead, he needed to focus on the issues that caused it. For the
catalyst of the war was also the tool for its solution; a war started by differing ideologies could only be
resolved through the military application of ideology. This non objective approach to the waging of
the war almost resembles the inspired approach McPherson brings to his examination of Lincoln
himself.
For Hearn, Lincoln s true level of tactical skill is hard to discern due to the legendary status that
history has given him. In response to this confusion, Hearn

The Consequences Of The Atomic Bombs
The not so wild 1950s frontier were vastly sprawling lands comprised of gorgeous geology. The dry
ecosystem inspires carnivorous creatures to roam the desert in search of their next meal. The sun

no doubt of natures undisturbed beauty. Those moments, were then interrupted with a blinding light.
An accession of a mushroom cloud followed behind, indicating the destruction of all in total

The military tested numerous atomic bombs in Nevada s deserts which could be seen as an everyday

The Secret Life Of Jay Gatsby
The Secret Life of Jay Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is meticulously written to portray characters as soul sucking,
money thriving, moral lacking individuals who are thrashed by his language, and scrupulous
descriptions. Gatsby is depicted as a suave, cordial, and prosperous gentleman who is trying to raise
himself in the ranks of riches, and approval. At first glance, it is hard to tell if there is a clear hero, or
someone with qualities thereof; at least in the traditional sense. We have Gatsby as a tragic hero, or as
close as you could come to one. I will analyze his background, fatal flaw, and the tragic fall to defeat.
James Gatz, a man of youth at the time, came to the realization that he no longer wanted to be the
offspring of homesteaders, or poverty stricken. He was a common man of the time, one of no
recognition throughout society. That is, until Dan Cody plucked him out of his old self, which was a
skin he was already starting to shed, and rapidly sets him into his new persona: Jay Gatsby. Nick
shares the truth was that Jay Gatsby of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of
himself. (105) A young man from North Dakota was on his way to becoming the strong, well known
man, who set sail on the Tuolomee destined for greatness that day. Little did he know, every person
has their Achilles heel.

Hierophanies In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane
Since the beginning of mankind Jerusalem has been a holy city and a site where religious man finds
communication and guidance from God. Throughout the biblical text a fine line between sacred and
profane space is drawn and realized through hierophanies. From the elaboration of Romanian historian
Mircea Eliade, a hierophany is when the sacred manifests itself in the form of a supernatural sign.
Many instances within the Bible established a strong relationship between mankind and the divine in
Jerusalem, which made it a sacred space to major religions including Christianity and Judaism. Made
clear through multiple hierophanies, God chose Jerusalem as his home and his people s home. In
Mircea Eliade s The Sacred and The Profane: Sacred Space and Making the World Sacred, he
proposes that the sacred and profane are separated by a manifestation, a hierophany. Once the sacred
shows itself, people on Earth will seek to memorialize or consecrate that object or place, and stay
close as if it was a direct source of communication with God. Hereafter, an axis mundi or center of the

Bantu Languages And The Languages
Bantu The word Bantu which means people in many Bantu languages, refers to a group of about five
hundred African languages and to their speakers, today numbering ninety million. The Bantu people
of Sub Saharan Africa, lived about one thousand CE. They shifted from hunting and gathering to settle
agriculture about four thousand years ago. The Bantu people traveled in to West Africa and Southward
into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows that they absorbed most of
the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas they migrated to. The farming
techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few years. The technique is called slash
and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They cut down the vegetation using their
machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil creating a fertile garden area. However,
this process caused the land to lose its fertility quickly and is abandoned for another plot in a new
location. When they moved, the Bantu speakers shared their skills with the people they met, adapted
their methods to suit each new environment, and learned new customs. They followed the Congo
River through the rain forests. There they farmed the riverbanks, the only place that received enough
sunlight to support agriculture. As they moved eastward into the savannas, they adapted their
techniques for herding goats and sheep to raising cattle. Passing through what is now Kenya and

Examples Of Social Deviance Goode
Social Deviance
According to Erich Goode, individuals living in poverty are considered to be deviant in the U.S
culture because of two reasons. Goode terms the first reason as priority, explaining that the poor get
exposed to deviant attitudes mush earlier in life. They therefore have higher chances of learning and
internalizing deviant attitudes. The second reason has to do with the intensity of interaction between
the poor and deviants. Most deviant people are to be found in areas inhabited or frequented by the
poor. The frequent association with deviants gives the poor higher chances of developing deviant
attitudes and skills. Goode maintains that one learns deviance the same way one learns to clean their
teeth. People living in poverty

The Nazi Regime Essay
The Nazi Regime
In this essay I will be analyzing the statement; The most important reason why there was little
opposition towards the Nazi regime was because of its use of propaganda. In order to do this I will
explain how the Nazis actions and the events leading up to the war prevented opposition.
During the pre ww2 era and particularly in the 1930s Hitler focused a lot of his attention on the
propaganda surrounding himself and the policies of his Nazi party. A massive propaganda campaign
was launched which aimed to convince the German people that all the Nazis did was right and good.

Of course, Hitler seized on this event and claimed that a bolshevist revolution was underway in
Germany and that communist were attempting to seize power.
The church was also involved in opposing Nazi regimes. An organization called the confessing church
was formed. It spoke out against Nazism, how it infiltrated the church and the Nazi anti Semitic
policies. Members of the Confessing Church also helped approximately 2000 Jews escape to freedom.
Probably one of the most significant and blatant acts of opposition towards Nazism occurred during
the latter stages of the war in July 1944 when a bomb plot executed by members of the German army
took place. The intent was to kill Hitler and hopefully end his regime, however the plan failed and
Hitler survived despite badly injuring his right arm. The plan was nicknamed the Stauffenberg bomb
plot.
Although the opposition instances mentioned caused the Nazis some concern, Goebbles and his Nazi
propaganda machine managed to overcome them. They did this by taking control of the medial and
cultural aspects of Germany to win over the German people. They also manipulated events (e.g. the
Reichstag fire) using propaganda to abolish any opponents who were seen as a threat towards the Nazi
power struggle. Goebbles fought for control of newspaper companies and radio stations and hundreds
of pro Nazi films were made. Germany

State Trooper Research Paper
Have you thought about what you want to do after high school i have thought about it over and over.
After hard thinking I came to conclusion what i would want to be. I would want to be a Arkansas State
Trooper. The history of the Troopers, is that on march 19th it was approved that arkansas had a state
police department. When it first started out, they were just seen as rangers . By 1948, the state trooper
had grew in size, were there were now over sixtyfive officers, including highway patrol and criminal
investigation. In the same year the state police stated being called as highway patrol as troopers . By
the year 1957 the state police had doubled in size. At this point in time every county had their own

But you always have to keep in mind that you could work over time and make extra money. Having a
career it is very important to make sure that you have benefits. As having benefits as a state trooper,
they would be social security, disability, healthcare, pension, and also you have time off and to be with
your family. In every job that we people have, there are risk that come with the job. Some of the risk
of being a state trooper is accidents happening, for example a hit and run, when you pull someone
over, and you are hit from the side or if someone is trying to leave a sense. A bigger risk is someone
not wanting to get into trouble for something that they have done and they may try to fight you. For
example, just this year alone there have been 76 police officers who have been killed. Most of them
deaths have came from people who either ran the police officer over, or have shot the officer. But like
i had said, with every job there is there are the benefits, and then there are the risk. That is why I
choose this career over any other ones. I want to be the one who can try to make sure that people are

Strengths And Weaknesses Essay
Working in a family business can be challenging as each person knows his coworkers quite well. At
Rabon s Barber Shop, Bill and his two sons, Cliff and Phil, discover that their individual strengths
compliment one another well, particularly in challenging situations.
Family Members Strengths Compliment One Another at Barber Shop
When asked which of the men is the best barber, Bill does not hesitate. We all are the best barber...all
three of us. People will come in and request any one of us. * He lets either son cut his own hair and
does not seem to play favorites. They have each cut hair of men, women, and children.
The Rabons have seen their share of hairstyles through the years. Our most popular cut is your basic,
regular haircut, Cliff says. They also cut many flat tops and fades, which are also known as high and
tights. Phil has cut one woman s hair three times to donate to Locks of Love. Shaving lines in hair has
also been popular, and Cliff and Phil found themselves challenged when clients would request special
designs in their hair in years past. Phil particularly remembers doing a Nike symbol. Cliff mentions
cutting a Batman bat signal. The bad thing about that was I didn t even think to charge extra! Bill
defers to his sons for special hair designs such as those.
Bill trained at a Winston Salem barber school while Cliff and Phil received their barber training in
Charlotte. The program lasted approximately nine months. It was almost like we were in nursing

Masculinity As A Man s Man
When I m talking to groups that are all men , said Gloria Steinem, writer and political activist, we talk
about how the masculine role limits them. They often want to talk about how they missed having real
fathers, real loving, present fathers, because of the way that they tried to fit the picture of masculinity
(Steinem). This particular idea of masculinity is a much more modern interpretation that has changed
drastically over the centuries. Masculinity used to be defined as a male who was a man s man that
exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the
years, especially in literature, the evolution of masculinity can be directly traced through careful and
considerate evaluation and analysis. As we explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to
fully understand include what exactly it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time,
and what it means to be a man in today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a
specific image is conjured in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a
great athletic physique, and the idea of an overcomer. In a certain time period this would be exactly
correct, but masculinity has evolved and changed since this definition held true. So what exactly does
it mean to be a man? There are a plethora of answers to this question when looking only at one
society, let alone the entire world. However, when looking at American

History of Punishment
According to (Seiter, 2011) Cesare Beccaria is known as the founder of the classical school of
criminology, the first organized theory of crime causation linked to appropriate punishments.
According to (Seiter, 2011) Beccaria suggested that the purpose of punishment is utility or the
prevention of crime. According to (Seiter, 2011) Jeremy Bentham is the creator of the hedonistic
calculus suggesting that punishments outweigh the pleasure criminals get from committing crime.
According to (Seiter, 2011) another way to remove offenders from society was through transportation

According to (Seiter, 2011) the Pennsylvania system was known as the separate and silent system with
silence enforced and inmates not allowed to see or talk with each other. Through this approach, it was
believed that offenders would not be morally contaminated and be trained in crime by other prisoners.
According to (Seiter, 2011) the Auburn system became known as the congregate and silent system as
officials continued to reduce the spread of criminals ideas by inmates through silence and strict
discipline they wanted inmates to march with their eyes looking down at the ground. They did not
want the inmates to give other inmates ideas. According to (Seiter, 2011) the emphasis was on having

Pantheon Vs Parthenon
This essay will be about two structures that were built by two different cultures. One was built in
Greece and the other was built in Rome. Both structure have the classical style of architecture but
were built in two different time periods. Both started out with the same function. One of the two
structures are no longer standing in all its glory and the other is still standing and being used today.
The building of the Parthenon was started in 447 BC at a time when the Athenian Empire was at the
height of its power. The temple continued until 432 BC.
The Parthenon s columns were of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian Order. The temple was dedicated to
the goddess Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin). The temple was triangular and had only two rooms. ...

The Pantheon is the best preserved building from ancient Rome. http://www.ancient.eu/Pantheon/
Archeological excavations have shown that the Pantheon, Rome had been destroyed, except for the
façade, not once but twice before it was completed.
The Pantheon, Rome has large granite Corinthian columns. The section of the building behind the
façade is round. It was originally faced with white marble stucco but is now brick and concrete. It has
a large circular domed cella with an oculus in the center to provide a natural source of light, as well as
serving as a cooling and ventilation method. The dome originally had a bronze ceiling, but in 1626 CE
Pope Urban VIII removed all of the bronze and had it melted and recast into 80 canons for the city s
Castel Sant Angelo.
Unlike the Greek temple Parthenon, the Pantheon, Rome s interior was deliberately made to outshine
the exterior of the building. This building has seven alcoves. Three of which are semi circular and four
rectangular. As noted earlier, the Parthenon only had two rectangular rooms.
Relatively early in its history, 608 CE, the building was converted into the Church of St. Mary of the

Generational Differences Between Baby Boomers and Millennials and The Impacts on HR
Kimberly Senkler
September 14, 2010
Human Resource Management BA 421 KP Normally we tend to think of diversity in relation to age,
race, gender and religion. These days there is more focus being given to diversity in the form of
generational differences.
While the other factors in diversity (age, race, gender and religion) tend to lead to legal issues,
generational diversity is generally more of a performance issue. Generations can be loosely defined as
bodies of individuals born and living at about the same time. Each generation is molded by distinctive
experiences during their critical developmental periods (Twenge, 2008). The ... Show more content on

Millennials tend to be technologically advanced and eager to learn. They also value social
responsibility and team work. They are often seen as impatient and quick to express opinions without
having all of the data. Millennials are quick to jump ship if they do not feel if they are progressing fast
enough, often at speeds that might be seen as unreasonable. Dayan (2005) says that about 5.6 million
Millennials are about to enter the employment market. Millennials are said to be the most challenging
generation for employers. Attracting Boomers and Millennials The number of employees over the age
of 55 has increased by 30 percent; however, the number of 25 to 54 year olds has only increased by 1
percent (Claire, 2009). In 2008 the eldest of the 77 million baby boomers turned 62. Estimates are that
by the end of the decade about 40 percent of the work force will be eligible to retire. As people begin
to reach the age of retirement there may be not be enough new employees to fill the gap (Clare, 2009).
Companies need to find ways to attract Boomers and Millennials. Companies that want to attract
Boomers and Millennials need to be creative in their culture, HR policies and work environments.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau the number of people 65 and older will possibly double by the
year 2030. According to Yager (2008) forecasts are showing that the United States could reach a labor
shortage by 2030. As

Submarines During World War 1
The common modern view on the U boat is that they were some sort of epically triumphant
mechanical monstrosity. Many people admire the size and advanced technology aboard the U boats
and ignore the fact that they ultimately never achieved their goal of gaining naval control in Europe
and the Atlantic. U boats, short for unterseeboot which translates to undersea boats, were weaponized
submarines used primarily during the World Wars. After the moderate successes of U boats during
World War 1, the Treaty of Versailles did not allow Germany to build naval weaponry. Despite this,
they continued to develop their navy over the next few decades. The Germans prepares a new fleet of

Attacking and bombing U boats off the coasts of Germany through the air allowed the Allies to scare
off other potential U boats in fear of them being bombed as well: The escort carriers proved to be a
potent weapon against the U boats because of their ability to put aircraft in the sky over waters distant
from land bases (The Sinking of the Laconia and the U boat War). This description highlights the
effectiveness of aircrafts as a defense mechanism against the submarines. They were very mobile and
thus could be deployed from far away to attack distant places and enemies. Additionally, it was a
method of destroying a U boat that did not take many men or resources. With sonar and radar that
could identify the location of the boats, the aircrafts were able to be flied over and bomb the ships and
water around them. Because of the size of the U boats, they could be easily seen from miles above and
were a sitting duck due to their lack of speed. After many attacks on the U boats, the German navy
was apprehensive about sending many more U boats into the ocean, fearing that they would be
bombed by the airplanes, and this demonstrates the huge effect that airplanes had on the effectiveness

Southwest Airlines. The agenda for the meeting was to review Southwest s competitive position in

BACKGROUND
No tC op
On June 18, 1971, Southwest Airlines, headquartered at Love Field in Dallas, began flying with three
Boeing 737 aircraft serving the Texas cities of Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
Southwest s competition was Texas International and Braniff, and, to a lesser extent,
Continental. Continental used every political and regulatory means to ensure that Southwest would not
get off the ground, including keeping Southwest out of the recently built Dallas Fort
Worth airport and waging a four year legal battle that left Southwest almost bankrupt at the time of its
first flight. One outcome of the legal battle was the so called Wright Amendment, named after James
Wright, then Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Wright Amendment prohibited any air
carrier from offering direct service into Love Field from any place beyond
Texas and the four contiguous states of Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico. This law
meant that passengers flying into Southwest s central location at Love Field from

Analysis Of The Song Thrift Shop By Macklemore And...
In our ever increasingly consumerist world, we are taught that extravagant spending on luxury
clothing is a sign of being fashionable and stylish, but Macklemore and Ryan Lewis beg a differ in
their hit song Thrift Shop. In the song, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis illstrustates that a person can still
have a unique and individualistic sense of style while saving money by shopping at a secondhand or
thrift store. During the course of the song, Macklemore and Lewis comically recount their time
shopping together at thrift shops and recounts to audiences the unique and sometimes bizarre finds
they come across, such as flannel zebra jammies or a dookie brown leather jacket. After successfully

These verses show that Macklemore is not afraid to show that he is man who buys his clothes on a
budget and preferences to save money by buying second apperal. Another example of repeating verses
that to make clear to listeners that Macklemore s song is a ballad to celebrate looking good on less, is
the repeated verse I m in this big ass coat, big ass coat from that thrift shop down the road, which puts
forth that the artist is satisfied that he in the way that he looks in his cheap, second hand clothing and
wants people to know that and he wants to flaunt it. By repeating this verse and others, Macklemore is
telling his audience that he doesn t care about how cheap his clothes are because his feels good and is
saving is hard earned cash. After a person listens to Macklemore s song, listeners get a clear message
that Macklemore take delight in looking great while spending very little by repeating these and others
verses in his hit song. Usually the main point of a music video is to help tie into the message of the
song and give listeners a clearer perspective of what the artist is trying to convey, and that is true with

  • 2. The Collapse Of The Housing Crisis Economists cite a plethora of reasons on why the Global Financial Crisis started. However, most economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression. The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the initial trigger of the crisis. The beginning of the bubble was due to the readily available credit in the U.S. that was fueled by a large influx of foreign funds following the Russian debt crisis and Asian financial crisis. This led to a boom in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slumps in value made it difficult for banks to sell assets at almost any price or use them as collateral for short term funding. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to 5.35%. The devaluation of homes caused them to be worth less than their mortgage loan, giving consumers an incentive to foreclose on their mortgages. In addition, homeowners that were barely able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon, dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world economy. With the collapse the housing bubble and the value of asset prices, banks began to doubt the viability of their counterparties. Without trust, which is the ultimate glue of all financial systems, banks stopped lending, which is the exact opposite of what banks are supposed to do. For example, the investment bank BNP Paribas told investors that they would be unable to take out money from some of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it is standing to reason to assume, that aging plays an important role in AAA pathogenesis. The assumption is, that 18 specific changes in the geometry of the vessel (length, diameter, and wall structure/sti ness) resulting from the natural aging process combined with changes they induce in the hemo dynamics, are the primary cause of aneurysm formation. This assumption postulates, that the mentioned coupling induces a segment of the aortic wall to degrade and simultaneously leads to a gradually increase of its diameter. A lot of research has been devoted to the fundmental mechanisms of aging in the arteries. Generally spoken, the aging process leads to an increase in the arterial diameter and a sti ening as well as thickening of the arterial wall. The median layer undergoes the bigger changes thinning out and losing its orderly arrangement of elastin laminas and fibers. The elastin laminas and fibers become fragmented and unorganized leading to decreasing elastic properties and increasing the sti ness [16]. From fluid mechanical viewpoint, the speed of the pulse wave in the artery increases, as sti ness goes up with age. It was shown, that the wave speed nearly doubles for a 60 year old adult compared to a 10 year old child (from 6.5 m/s to upwards of 11 m/s) [17]. Studies found out, that the aging iliac ... • 11. The Rhetorical Analysis Of Henry David Thoreau s Civil... Henry David Thoreau in his speech turned essay, Civil Disobedience, makes the case for individuals to be self sufficient and independent. Thoreau s purpose is to illustrate the importance of those qualities in everyday life and how someone should always keep these unwavering principles throughout their existence. Utilizing diction, imagery and syntax, Thoreau adopts a forthright tone to invoke independent thinking, action, and self contemplation in the American populace. Thoreau s diction utilizes readers connotations of words and phrases to spark independent thought and encouragement of individuals to challenge and to investigate beliefs. One such connotation is when Thoreau discusses the government and its control over the people, comparing the government s tactics to black arts (Thoreau 3). The phrase black arts typically refers to black magic, which is the idea of invoking evil spirits to be used antagonistically. By using that phrase, Thoreau demonizes the government by comparing its tactics to a fairy tale like villain, solidifying his view of the government as purely diabolical with no redeeming qualities or factors to it. This demonization makes the government become something seen as negative for the country. Thus, Thoreau aggressively challenges how the government is viewed by the public and whether the fairly positive light it is given is justified or not. According to Laura Birkett on the Toronto Star, For as long as there have been teenagers, there have been adults aghast at their habits... often expressed by their wardrobe ( Students Protest Dress Codes IN7). Dress codes pose to have no actual effect on students in today s world. Birkett also explained that with dress code or without it kids will do what they want and will still, most likely, grow up to me respectable adults in the working class ( Students Protest Dress Codes IN7). Dress codes have been proven unnecessary and therefore, have no positive benefits on students. Dress codes are also sending the wrong message to students about body shaming. Donna George for the Washington Post reveals that, at a School in Maryland a young girl was called out for her leggings which were said to be a distraction by the young girls teacher. Sensor nodes have an in built processor, using which before transmission raw data is processed. These features facilitate wide range of applications of wireless sensor networks like biomedical, environmental, military, event detection and vehicular telematics. Wireless networks of sensors are very much likely to be widely deployed in the future because they greatly extend our ability to control and monitor the physical environment from remote locations. Such networks can greatly improve the accuracy of information obtained via collaboration among sensor nodes and online information processing at those nodes. Wireless sensor networks can also improve remote access to sensor data by providing sink nodes that connect them to other networks, such as the Internet, using wide area wireless links. If the sensors share their observations and processes then that meaningful and useful information is available at the sink nodes, so users can retrieve information from the sink nodes to monitor and control the environment from afar. For historians such as James McPherson, they see Lincoln as the greatest leader in American history. For McPherson, Lincoln succeeded in combining military pragmatism with the political ideologies of the North, as well as Lincoln s own idealism, thus assuring Northern victory. However, not all historians agree that Lincoln was a masterful tactician. In his Introduction, McPherson states regarding Lincoln s political leadership: In a civil war whose origins lay in a political conflict over the future of slavery and a political decision by certain states to secede, policy could never be separated from national strategy.... And neither policy nor national strategy could be separated from military strategy (McPherson, p.6). Lincoln could not approach the war from a purely martial standpoint instead, he needed to focus on the issues that caused it. For the catalyst of the war was also the tool for its solution; a war started by differing ideologies could only be resolved through the military application of ideology. This non objective approach to the waging of the war almost resembles the inspired approach McPherson brings to his examination of Lincoln himself. Hierophanies In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane Since the beginning of mankind Jerusalem has been a holy city and a site where religious man finds communication and guidance from God. Throughout the biblical text a fine line between sacred and profane space is drawn and realized through hierophanies. From the elaboration of Romanian historian Mircea Eliade, a hierophany is when the sacred manifests itself in the form of a supernatural sign. Many instances within the Bible established a strong relationship between mankind and the divine in Jerusalem, which made it a sacred space to major religions including Christianity and Judaism. Made clear through multiple hierophanies, God chose Jerusalem as his home and his people s home. In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred and The Profane: Sacred Space and Making the World Sacred, he proposes that the sacred and profane are separated by a manifestation, a hierophany. • 20. Bantu Languages And The Languages Bantu The word Bantu which means people in many Bantu languages, refers to a group of about five hundred African languages and to their speakers, today numbering ninety million. The Bantu people of Sub Saharan Africa, lived about one thousand CE. They shifted from hunting and gathering to settle agriculture about four thousand years ago. The Bantu people traveled in to West Africa and Southward into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows that they absorbed most of the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas they migrated to. The farming techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few years. The technique is called slash and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They cut down the vegetation using their machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil creating a fertile garden area. The South The Impact of Structure in Borge s The South Ordinarily, a short story is characterized by the inclusion of crucial details, consistent characters, linear plots, and a significant closure; Argentine novelist Jorge Luis Borges 20th century compilation of short stories, Ficciones, defies these characteristics, and, upon its release, conclusively revolutionized the genre. Such fictions hold incomplete backgrounds, thinly sketched characters, non linear plots, and open ended conclusions. • 22. Examples Of Social Deviance Goode Social Deviance According to Erich Goode, individuals living in poverty are considered to be deviant in the U.S culture because of two reasons. Goode terms the first reason as priority, explaining that the poor get exposed to deviant attitudes mush earlier in life. They therefore have higher chances of learning and internalizing deviant attitudes. The second reason has to do with the intensity of interaction between the poor and deviants. Most deviant people are to be found in areas inhabited or frequented by the poor. The frequent association with deviants gives the poor higher chances of developing deviant attitudes and skills. Goode maintains that one learns deviance the same way one learns to clean their teeth. People living in poverty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Nazi Regime Essay The Nazi Regime In this essay I will be analyzing the statement; The most important reason why there was little opposition towards the Nazi regime was because of its use of propaganda. In order to do this I will explain how the Nazis actions and the events leading up to the war prevented opposition. During the pre ww2 era and particularly in the 1930s Hitler focused a lot of his attention on the propaganda surrounding himself and the policies of his Nazi party. A massive propaganda campaign was launched which aimed to convince the German people that all the Nazis did was right and good. The man behind this campaign was Josef Goebbles, a vain, ambitious, anti Semitic womanizer. Geobbles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, Hitler seized on this event and claimed that a bolshevist revolution was underway in Germany and that communist were attempting to seize power. The church was also involved in opposing Nazi regimes. An organization called the confessing church was formed. It spoke out against Nazism, how it infiltrated the church and the Nazi anti Semitic policies. Members of the Confessing Church also helped approximately 2000 Jews escape to freedom. Probably one of the most significant and blatant acts of opposition towards Nazism occurred during the latter stages of the war in July 1944 when a bomb plot executed by members of the German army took place. The intent was to kill Hitler and hopefully end his regime, however the plan failed and Hitler survived despite badly injuring his right arm. The plan was nicknamed the Stauffenberg bomb plot. Although the opposition instances mentioned caused the Nazis some concern, Goebbles and his Nazi propaganda machine managed to overcome them. They did this by taking control of the medial and cultural aspects of Germany to win over the German people. They also manipulated events (e.g. the Reichstag fire) using propaganda to abolish any opponents who were seen as a threat towards the Nazi power struggle. Goebbles fought for control of newspaper companies and radio stations and hundreds of pro Nazi films were made. Germany ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They often want to talk about how they missed having real fathers, real loving, present fathers, because of the way that they tried to fit the picture of masculinity (Steinem). This particular idea of masculinity is a much more modern interpretation that has changed drastically over the centuries. Masculinity used to be defined as a male who was a man s man that exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the years, especially in literature, the evolution of masculinity can be directly traced through careful and considerate evaluation and analysis. As we explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to fully understand include what exactly it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time, and what it means to be a man in today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a specific image is conjured in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a great athletic physique, and the idea of an overcomer. In a certain time period this would be exactly correct, but masculinity has evolved and changed since this definition held true. So what exactly does it mean to be a man? They were very mobile and thus could be deployed from far away to attack distant places and enemies. Additionally, it was a method of destroying a U boat that did not take many men or resources. With sonar and radar that could identify the location of the boats, the aircrafts were able to be flied over and bomb the ships and water around them. Because of the size of the U boats, they could be easily seen from miles above and were a sitting duck due to their lack of speed.
