It creates a unique learning environment where students can have authentic experiences that lead to discovery and deep understanding. The 5E model is used to implement inquiry, engaging students, allowing them to explore, helping them explain their understanding, and challenging them to elaborate on their ideas. Evaluation occurs throughout as students reflect on and assess their learning.
Reading is a complex process that involves word recognition, comprehension, fluency and motivation. It requires the interaction between the reader's prior knowledge, information from the text, and the reading context. Comprehension is the main goal of reading, as without understanding the meaning, reading is just recognizing words. Teachers can help students' comprehension with strategies used before, during and after reading such as activating background knowledge, asking questions, summarizing and discussing ideas from the text.
Critical thinking is reflective reasoning about beliefs and actions used to determine if claims are true. It traces to Socratic questioning in Ancient Greece and involves examining propositions to assess if they correspond to reality. Critical thinking requires skills like observation, interpretation, evaluation, and inference as well as intellectual traits like open-mindedness, integrity, and courage. The purpose is to use reason to improve the quality of thinking on any subject.
