Analysis Of The Book The Essay
Callum shouldered his sack, eyes focused on the back of the man before him, trying not to think
about the ache in his feet, the soreness of his back, the grime that layered his body. Just keep
marching, keep moving Callum repeated in his head like a mantra.
Callum could see in the distance beyond the trees the faint outlines of green hills. Hills that he last
remembered were bathed in red and flesh. Over a year has passed since the First Battle of Bull Run
and so much as changed since then. With a lack of manpower and volunteers, the Confederacy
issued a draft for all men of age. Of course, Callum could have bought his way out of the draft, if it
were not for his rat bastard of a father. Said war would put some hair on his chest that it would be
good for him and then refused to cover the draft fees.
So here Callum was, trudging alongside several thousand men under General Lee s command.
The Union has been trying to gain control of Virginia since the very inception of the war. After
Virginia joined the Confederacy, it was rewarded with the Confederate capitol in Richmond due
to its industry and factories. His hometown was the only large scale industrial city in the
Confederacy. Having the capitol and the bulk of the army here allowed for easy restocking of
supplies. It was a logistically sound move, but also a dangerous one.
Virginia lies at the border of the Confederacy and the Union, not even a hundred miles south of the
Union s capital in Washington. Losing

Magical Realism In The Film Big Fish
Magical realism is the idea of unordinary events happening throughout a novel or film. The events
are bizarre, yet occur in a realistic setting with normal people. Magical realism is similar, yet is
not to be confused with, fantasy. In fantasy the author creates their own world, whereas magical
realism is based in the real world. Fantasy can include many unrealistic concepts, such as dragons,
the land of make believe and evil witches. All these things would fit in an elaborate fantasy story
just fine. However, with magical realismthe illogical events are subtle and the story s plot doesn t
necessarily revolve around the magic. In a way it s like mixing reality with fiction, sort of like a
dream. Many parts of a dream are realistic yet there s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story begins with a raging storm that has been ongoing for three days, the setting of the
story is gloomy and grey. Marquez states, The world has been sad since Tuesday. Sea and sky
were a single ashgray thing and the sands.. had become a stew of mud and rotten shellfish (par
1). This foreshadows darkness and the possible renewal with the connection to the third day.
Amongst all this havoc an angel arrives and the qualities of human evil begin to show through
Pelayo and his wife Elisenda. When they re told that he is infact an angel, they decide to keep
him captive in their house. Pelayo is very aggressive in his demeanor towards the angel, Pelayo
watched over him all afternoon from the kitchen, armed with a bailiff s club, and before going
to bed he dragged him out of the mud and locked him up with the hens in the wire coop ( par 3).
From the moment the couple discovered this being whom was different then they are, they
ostracized him. Marquez highlights the negative response humans reflect on those who are weak
and or odd. Once Pelayo and Elisenda s child recovered it is stated, they felt magnanimous and
decided to put the angel on a raft with fresh water and provisions for three days and leave him to
his fate on the high seas (par 3). Although that would be better than captivity, it isn t necessarily
kind to leave something weak to fend for itself.

Research Paper On Amy Winehouse
The Jagged and Short Lived Excellence of Amy Winehouse We all have seen musicians and artists
come on go because they lose the spark that makes them stand out from the rest. We have
witnessed bands introducing their demise by going on a long hiatus, soloists going downhill
because their singles weren t followed up by remarkable ones or musicians who weren t strong
enough to take control of what they have.
The world of music is a rollercoaster ride; one moment you re famous and in the next you will find
yourself in the state of utter oblivion. Truly, it takes a lot of courage, talent and branding to keep
the spotlight pointing your way, but how about those who never see it coming? What about those

if there is a knife carelessly lying about and one of the patient, who is mentally ill comes and
pick it up, not knowing that it is harmful and if misused it could seriously hurt them. Unclean
environment: This is a major hazard because if the environment in a nursing home is unclean
this can lead to spreading diseases, infections and causes the environment to start to smell and
that could add up to the patients illness. Nursery: In a nursery there are many hazards so staffs
need to be extra careful on what they leave hanging around especially when dealing with
younger children. Also there are round the clock service is provided. Loose wires: This is a
very important hazard everywhere and if there are loose wires hanging carelessly around at a
nursery it is more likely that one half of the children in a class would trip over it and get badly
injured so if possible keep the wires out of reach . Toys left carelessly on the floor: This is really
important because if there are toys on lying on the floor carelessly it is more likely that a child
could trip over it or put it in their mouth and injury themselves with it. Cleaning products:
Cleaning product should be kept far away from a nursery area and should be kept in an area that
children cannot reach and locked up because if this hazard is seen by a child in the nursery they
could put it in their mouth thinking it

Compare And Contrast All Quiet On The Western Front And Night
Essay draft All Quiet on the Western Front and Night are two novels that talk about wars and
author s experiences. They are different in author s perspective which All Quiet on the Western
was written in a German soldier s view and Night was in Jewish people s view, one is the warrior
and one is the victim. Despite those differences, these works share the same idea of the
dehumanization of war and how it can physically and mentally affect people by using real events
and ironic writing style.
The writing style in both All Quiet on the Western Frontand Night have a lot in common that the
author used irony tones to express the emotion of detesting of war. For example, We are old folk

Quick Summary
This guide will compare and contrast pasteurized cheeses with unpasteurized cheeses. It will discuss
and explain the basic nutritional similarities and differences between pasteurized cheeses and
unpasteurized cheeses and how to tell the difference between pasteurized cheeses and unpasteurized
cheeses when considering the purchase and consumption of these foods. This guide will also
analyze the various health concerns with both pasteurized cheeses and unpasteurized cheeses, such
as the advantages and disadvantages of consuming both. This includes why pasteurized cheeses are

These are the processed cheeses most commonly found in grocery stores and markets in the United
States. These cheeses do not require refrigeration and have a very long shelf life, sometimes going
several weeks or a few months without spoiling. American cheese and reduced fat cheeses are
common examples of processed, pre packed pasteurized cheeses. Typically processed cheeses are
required to have artificial flavoring added to them because during the pasteurization process, the
milk s natural flavors are removed, which reduces the natural flavor of the cheese itself. These
processed, pre packaged and pasteurized cheeses are also commonly referred to as club cheeses or
cold cut cheeses.
Pasteurized cheeses are the most common types of cheeses found in markets and grocery stores
and they are the only type of cheeses considered safe and approved for regular consumption by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Pasteurized cheeses are also good for many recipes, whether
just as an appetizer or paired with crackers, fruit, and wine.

Alternative Theories to Profit Maximization
Alternative theories to profit maximization ranging from perfect competition to strict monopolies.
Companies and The Market
Most companies are profit oriented. Companies survive and live on profit. Even governmental
institutions, NGO s and NPO s are profit oriented, what they do with profit is different though.
Saying this means that companies seek always to be at a position where profit is maximized. As
we know by now this happens when MC=MR but this is an always changing point as supply and
demand are dynamic, effectively meaning that if firms get it right once they can t just do the same
eternally, they still need to adapt to every market factor as a new change is a new reality all
together that needs to be studied and addressed. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One step away from perfect competition is monopolistic competition. This type of market structure
has a number of different characteristics from the above. Which turn it into one of the most used
market structures. In this scenario, companies are not all price takers and start making use of
economies of scale in order to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase profits. In the scenario
companies sell a differentiated product at different prices. Like in perfect competition no barriers
are put to entry and newcomers a constant threat to the market keeping every player always in
search for a better mean to produce and compete.
An oligopoly, is when there are only a few number of companies that control a specific market. The
barriers to entry can be both legal/political (ie. number of licenses awarded to cell phone operators)
to the fact that the companies themselves create a cartel like attitude effectively brushing of the
market new entrants through aggressive measures like undercutting pricing on new smaller
entrants, controlling inputs for production, etc.
On the other end of the market structures are monopolies. Monopolies are generally quite
inefficient in the sense that consumers don t have a choice in terms of what to consume and
generally speaking don t offer good value for money as the company dictates the price of the good
irrespective of cost (as we

Bayou Farewell By Mike Tidwell
In Bayou Farewell by Mike Tidwell, Tidwell explores how the Cajuns in Southern Louisiana have
been impacted by climate change. Tidwell brings to attention that Louisiana has 40% of the
United States wetlands, but people do not realize all of the economic benefits and ecosystem
services that these wetlands provide. Sadly, these wetlands are being submerged and destroyed at
the rate of over a football field an hour. The main causes of Louisianas wetlands disappearing are
the levees that prevent the Mississippi from dropping rich sediment at the mouth of the river to
create barrier islands, and the careless actions of oil and gas companies (creating pipelines
everywhere and frequent oil spills).

The Hittite, Jewish, Phoenician, Persian, And Assyrians
The Hittite, Jewish, Phoenician, Persian, and Assyrians nations are all very important nations
within Mesopotamia. They share similar attributes but differ at the same time. The HIttites were

their chariot building. The Hittite empire soon fell to the Assyrians. The Jewish were led to Israel

Sone, they became expert sailors and grew wealthy from trade. The creation of the Phoenician
alphabet is one of the greatest accomplishments they achieved and was used by many other
civilizations. With the founding of Carthage and other colonies, the use of paryus before the
Greeks is a few of their other achievements. In 550 B.C.E. to 331 B.C.E. the Persian empire went
from India all the way to Europe. Cyrus the Great was one of Persia s kings. The geography
limited trade with other neighboring civilizations. Persia conquered Anatolia for the purpose of the
use of their seaports for trade. Cyrus son created the Persian satrap (governors). After
unsuccessfully invading Greece, due to the rebellions within the civilizations, Persia was
conquered by Alexander the Great. The Assyrian empire spans over modern day Turkey, Syria,
Iraq, and Iran. The rivers Tigris and Euphrates both ran through the Assyrian empire which also
contained rich and fertile land. The spoken languages they used were Akkadian and Assyrian (
Assyrian Neo Aramaic) while writing with cuneiform. The Assyrians participated in the religions
Ashurism and Christianity. Assyrians were often militaristic and known their advanced and

encouraged and assisted immigration and absorption as part of a pro immigration ideology and
policy. Israel is a safe haven for Jews. However, the heavy migration of the Soviet Jewsinto Israel
caused Israelis to rethink their past . The immigration of Soviet Jews to Israel brought significant
social and cultural changes to Israel in terms of the historical question about the nature of Jewish

American Conspiracy Theory
The Effects Conspiracy Theories Have On American Culture Conspiracy Theories are defined as a
belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for a circumstance or event. An
uprising problem in American culture is the spread of the perpetuation of misinformation through
many online sources and social media platforms. A part of this issue is the publishing of fake
news and conspiracy theories, mainly by authors and editors who are seeking compensation for
their information . Crazy storylines are created or more is added to a previous story and are shared
with the internet to get the attention of the population. The publishers are aware that they are

The author from The Atlantic discusses the effect that the publisher of these conspiracy theories
has on the American citizens. It is harmful as these theories have become normalized through
politics, a great portion of many lives and has led them to have their free mind almost being
altered. The spread of fake news is becoming a prevalent issue currently to owners of any media
platform across the web as stated through Gale Databases. As it has spread to websites and social
media it has become hard to distinguish the real from the fake if you are constantly being
surrounded by the fake. The question of why so many people believe in conspiracy theories can
be embarked upon in many different aspects as seen by Time. Through studies, we see that one s
income, education, or political beliefs can alter their mind. But also a mentality implemented
through politics and the tension around that can be harming people. In which every way it is
absurd that people are still being fooled by this false information and that it is allowed to still
continue on. All three sources can come together to agree that the perpetuation of misinformation is
a very real, toxic product that is affecting the way in which our society views events or stories. It
can be taken on through politics and rumors present there, conspiracy

Why Investment Banking Is Like Doing Drugs
Doing investment banking is like doing drugs: on your good trips you dance in clouds of

that was recklessly spent by commercial banks.

speculative in the pre Depression era, not only because they were investing in to their own assets
but also because they were buying new issues for resale to the public. The banks became greedy,
taking on huge risks in the hope of even bigger rewards. Banking itself became sloppy and

Intercultural/International Communication

Cultural conflict and popular culture are two experiences in life that assist in defining intercultural
communication and how its influence affects our daily intercommunication. Cultural conflict is
inevitable as we live out our daily lives in the identities we have selected for ourselves, the identities
relating to our ethnicity and in those identities others have selected for us. These identities are
bound to conflict with another individual s identities which is why there is a need for

Popular culture was demonstrated when the granddaughter was texting during the grandmother s

when Walt came to the rescue. Walt had a quite a few verbal stereotypes for all of them in addition
to using his gun to break up the conflict. Popular culture
Of the five types of Cultural Conflict the three most significant conflicts in intercultural
communication in the film Gran Torino are found in conflict in values, conflict in goals, and
cognitive conflict. Conflicts in values are the differing ideologies as in philosophy and principles.
Two examples of conflict in values found in the film Gran Torino are:
1. Walt and the priest had different ideologies on life and death. The priest kept approaching Walt
with the offer of confession which he had promised Walt s wife before she died. Walt did not think
much of religion, attending church or confession or the priest. The priest resolved to get Walt into
confession with his philosophy, principles and outlook on life as his religion dictated.

A nonfiction book A Night to Remember was wrote in 1955 by Walter Lord that consist of ten
chapters of a true minute by minute story sinking of the most glamorous ship in the world. It is the
legendary tragedy of the world biggest ever ship of the White Star Line called Titanic. The every
moment happened of her maiden voyage that night are summed up below.

Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And...
Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1
Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014
P1
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and
web functionality.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its
customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more
expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all)
as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT)
although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure.
Web Hosting Services
Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their
websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone
trying to access it via a server.
Domain Structure
The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of
numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this
makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a
website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various
resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos.

Bacterial Lawns
1. Did your bacterial lawns contain only one species of bacteria on each plate, based on lawn
appearance? If not, why do you think that is?
I do believe that my bacterial lawns contained only one species of bacteria on each plate, they are
consistent in color and appearance from the bacteria colonies from Experiment 1. There is only
one difference and it involves plate 1, the toilet handle. I was unsure if it was because of the bacteria
or in reaction to the antibiotics but around the Kanamycin ZOI there is a brighter yellow ring
around it. I thought it was strange that only around there was such a reaction but as I said I was
not sure if it was a reaction to the Kanamycin.
2. Which antibiotic was most effective in killing the bacterial lawn on each plate? Which was the
least effective? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that the bacteria for this lawn have cells that are surrounded by a cell wall which
includes a thin layer of peptidoglycan and surrounding that is an outer lipid membrane that does not
contain the Gram strain. Yet at the same time while Kanamycin was the most effective the
Ampicillin and Penicillin had reactions as well. The Ampicillin would kill both Gram positive and
Gram negative so this could indicate that there are Gram negative bacteria in the lawn, but the fact
that the Penicillin worked as well was what was interesting. This means that this bacterial lawn
contains both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Gram positive are bacteria with cell walls
that contain a thick layer of peptiodoglycan that retains the Gram strain. For plate 2, trashcan lid,
only the Kanamcyin worked which indicates that the only bacteria in this lawn are Gram negative,
but if that is true why didn t the Ampicillin work at all? Ampicillin works to kill both positive and
negative grams, but there was no reaction this time. Could it be that it needs more

Chemical Contamination In Marine Mammals
Abstract Dating back to the 1970s when people began to realize the toxic effects pollutants like
PCBs and DDT were having on all kinds of organisms, marine mammals came into focus as
particularly vulnerable and at risk for adverse health effects with exposure to these contaminants.
Since then researchers have worked to determine exactly what harm these animals are succumbing
to. The chemical properties of persistent organic pollutants along with the biomagnification of
organochlorines through the trophic levels and the bioaccumulation of these chemicals in the
blubber of marine mammals, explain why these animals are significantly affected by these
hazardous chemicals. Bioaccumulation can also explain important trends in PCBs and DDT
concentrations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marine mammals can live for decades and have large blubber layers that attract and store fat
soluble chemicals. They also feed at the top levels of long food chains and therefore act as and
end point for much of the accumulation in food webs (O Shea, 1999). This concept encompasses
two major principles of contamination in marine mammals: bioaccumulation and
biomagnification. The latter is described as the tendency of organochlorines to concentrate as
they are moved up the trophic levels (O Shea, 1999). An evaluation of the chemical contaminants
found in marine mammals from Washington state found that PCB concentrations in seal blubber
were 110 times higher than levels found in their fish prey in the Puget Sound, and 56 times
higher than their fish prey in Hood Canal (Calambokidis et al., 1984). Calambokidis et al. (1984)
concludes there was a significant percentage of organochlorines in fish prey being absorbed and
stored by adult male seals. Biomagnification relates to the various diets of marine mammals at
different levels in a food chain. Odontocetes and pinnipeds who feed on higher trophic levels such
as fish, invertebrates, squid, and other marine mammals, tend to have higher organochlorine

this is comparing two eco types of Orcinus orca, transient and resident, from the Kenai Fjords

between these two groups such as habitat use, the main one is that transient killer whales are
marine mammal eaters and resident killer whales are fish eaters. This difference causes much
higher concentrations of organochlorines in transient killer whales than in resident groups,
indicating species who feed in higher trophic levels collect more organochlorines (Ylitalo et al.,

Bottlenose Dolphin Informative Speech Essay
The Bottlenose Dolphin
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the bottlenose dolphin species.
Central Idea: Dolphins are unique creatures that possess numerous abilities such as, their
intelligence, communication skills, and behavioral patterns.
Introduction
I. Imagine yourself surrounded by a pool of water, but not just any pool of water, the biggest one
of all: the ocean. You re in the ocean attempting to swim, but only this time, instead of moving
your arms over your head and your legs up and down, your only moving your lower half, up and
down. You swim for a period of time and then suddenly realize your oxygen supply is slowly
running out. You swim to the surface and breathe, then your right back at it, swimming with no...

a.Communication occurs within the dolphin itself.
i.This includes a range of echolocation clicks in the dolphin sonar system used to identify objects
underwater. ii. Studies by the US Navy have proven that a dolphin s sonar communication is
accurate.
1.Dolphins can locate a 3 inch sphere 400 yards away (Wexler, 1994).
b.Communication can also occurs between two or more dolphins.
i.This was measured using the rate of whistling in dolphins.
1.According the University of St. Andrews study, of 29 different dolphins, whistling rates during
non polarized and socializing movements were higher than surface travel (Quick amp; Janik, 2008).
ii. Dolphins alert stress levels to other dolphins by altering the pitch of their signature whistle
(Wexler, 1994).
Transition: After learning about a dolphin s sense of communication, we can now build upon this
information by examining their unique behavior.
III.A final ability worth noting is the social inclination of dolphin behavior.
a.It has been proven that a lot of their behavior revolves around social activity.
i.Randall Wells and his team observed groups of male dolphin behavior in Sarasota Bay, Florida.
1.The dolphins lifted their heads, which allowed them to toss each other out of the water.
2.This proved that these interactions were defining their social relationships (Rohan, 2003). ii.
Another study consisting of 52 dolphins proved that social

Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles
Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that
classical, in particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have
chosen three beatles songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope
to find many correlations between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have
chosen is the song Blackbird. McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s
Bouree in E minor, of which he and George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https:/

/watch?v=APNI2CC0k6A list=RDAPNI2CC0k6A index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor
(Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar, for example the song Blackbird is
majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as named, is in a minor key.
This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and therefore the relative major
key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the similarities between the two
pieces. The BourrГ©e is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the
upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the BourrГ©e and reharmonized it into
the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the musical idea
throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies. Part of its
structure is a particular

Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees
There is nothing perfect, August said from the doorway. There is only life (Kidd 256). This
quote from The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd explains Lily Owens life, a young girl
with an unloving father and a mother who abandoned her and was later shot and killed by her
own daughter, Lily. Lily has a hard time finding her place in the world and understanding why
her life is the way it is. She decides it is time for her to take charge of her own life. She finds
herself in Tiburon, South Carolina with her nanny Rosaleen and three black women, August,
June and May who unravel the story to her mother s past. Lily s story can be seen in different
layers, the most significant layers are the religious, thematic and symbolic layers. These three
layers are essential when trying to gain understanding of The Secret Life of Bees. In The Secret
Life of bees you can learn a lot from the thematic layer. Three salient themes in this layer are
forgiveness, hope and strength. Hope is shown when Zach talks to Lily about becoming a
lawyer one day, I ve just never heard of a Negro lawyer, that s all. You ve got to hear of these
things before you can imagine them Bullshit. You gotta imagine what s never been (Kidd 121).
Zach has hope that one day he will become a lawyer despite his skin color and what everyone else
says about it. He doesn t give up because of what society thinks, he stays hopeful. During this time

Utopian Cults Essays
For many years, cults have been a subject of great controversy. A cult is a group of people that
are bound together by an appreciation of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. Usually these groups
keep close because of religious reasons, but their beliefs are almost always considered strange by
outsiders. Cults are similar to clans or congregations, but are usually referred to as sects.
There are many different categories that a cult could be sorted into. Apocalyptic, Utopian,
Spiritualistic, Satanic, and Witchcraft/Voodoo cults are just some of the more basic types. While
an Apocalyptic cult would focus on the end of the world, a Utopian cult would center more on a
perfect land, or in other words a heaven on Earth. Spiritualistic cults ... Show more content on

A utopia is any visionary system of political or social perfection. In Moore s novel an ideal place
to live was described and since then many people on Earth have searched to find a utopia of their
own. Utopian Cults created exclusive, self supporting communities that were completely isolated
from the sinful world. In all of these cults, success of the community was most important and
individual wants came second. The leader of the clan would assign jobs to his/her followers and
they had to work. Assignments were usually tasks such as farming, because the cult s community
was isolated from the rest of the world and needed to feed themselves. All recorded Utopian cults
have failed within 20 years of effort proving that none of them were up to the enormous challenge
of perfection. The most famous Utopian cult of all time was led by Jim Jones and it was called the
People s Temple. At the age of 22, Jim Jones opened his first church, the People s Temple in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Jones taught his followers to treat all races equally which was not popular
in the early fifties. To show their disapproval, many people would knock him off of his bike and
some even threw dead cats into his church, but Jones kept preaching. Things turned around for
Jones when the Civil Rights Movement began, his church expanding not only over Indianapolis
but all over America. In 1961, Jim Jones and his family moved to Brazil where Jones served as a
missionary for two years. He

everything goes downhill. Glass finds himself shifting from the New Republics key to success, to

One little mistake ended up exposing him completely, landing him with no job and no friends
who have his back. Stephen Glass published his biggest article yet, Hack Heaven , where he
falsely reported an immense amount of information. He claimed that he was present at the event
taking place regarding a hacker convention, but in reality he was not. In fact, none of it was true,
every single detail he wrote in the article was fake news. Glass argued that he acquired enough
information from other random sources he came across, leading him to believe nobody would find
out if he had no personal fact to back up the information himself. He made up fake people, quoted
them, referenced different nonexistent companies, and participated in other unethical actions.
Everything began deteriorating when a man named Adam Penenberg, a writer for another
newspaper, dug further into Glass story. Starting as theories, Penenberg and his co worker Andy
Fox built up a case and began supporting it with facts, finally becoming confident with the fact that
Stephen Glass fabricated the entire piece, Hack Heaven . Facts such as dates and times did not
match up with Glass statements and neither did websites and phone numbers. For example,
Penenberg told Stephen Glass that the website for one of the sources that he mentioned in his
article, Juke Micronics, was not believable. He said, Quite frankly, it

The Testament Of The Old Testament Essay
1.The Old Testament consisted of a set of the spiritual text of documentations, which were written
by different people at various times to a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains
short stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguish ways God established mankind.
These stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to
as laws, songs, genealogies, and list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The
pressing of set documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of Gods
followers. The term Old Testamentoriginated as a means to express spoken traditions and Gods
creation from that particular era. It is a method of philosophical investigation was designed to
answer the why questions within these spiritual text documentations. These religious
documentations consist of four parts. These four sections include the Old Testaments are the laws,
history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of behavior enforced within the community. The
rules are sometimes called Torah. When analyzing these Torah, these rules were located in the first
five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first Torah in Genesis, it explains the
creation, Noah s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph s coats of many colors. However, the
laws in Exodus were in regards to the going out. The going out took about 40 plus years, until the
people were lead to the promise land of God.

Observation Essay
It was about 10:30 Saturday morning when I woke up, still feeling bad from the night before.
My boyfriend decided at the last minute to surprise me and four of our children with a day at the
beach the day before. We left with only the clothes on our backs and bathing suits. It was only
after we arrived that we decided to stay the night. So we got us a room at the Sea Foam motel in
Nags Head, NC.
After I was finally able to get up from the bed, I woke the children up to get ready so we could
leave. We all took showers, packed up all our belongings and headed out. It was well past the

My boyfriend and I watched as the seagulls flew overhead and the children tossed them
breadcrumbs, ducking their heads every time one would swoop down over them. Just before we
reached the Island, I caught a glimpse of a pod of dolphins swimming along in the distance.
Minutes later we were able to spot the Island, so we all headed back to our vehicles as we
approached Ocaracoke. Once we reached the dock, we waited in the van until it was our turn to exit.
Once we had departed the ferry, we continued south on Highway 12. We passed several
restaurants and gift shops on our way. There were people walking and riding bikes along the
sides of the road as we drove past. It was not very long before we had reached the southern tip of
the Island, so we turned around on Highway 12 and started heading back north towards the ferry.
Along the way we decided to stop by one of the gift shops called The Pirates Chest. We all went
inside to look around. The shop was filled with little knick knacks, toys, shells, etc. We let each of
the children pick them out something, paid the cashier and we were on our way again.
Before we reached the ferry, we made one more stop by The Dipping Dots for some ice cream.
The shop had all sorts of goodies, including cakes, brownies, fudge and candy. The children walked

The two sources featured in this analysis are both engravings of scenes from the Cawnpore
Massacre during the Indian Mutiny . The first is of the Massacre of English women and
children freed by the Sepoys who tried to escape from Cawnpore by boat to the safety of
Allahabad. The second engraving records the story of Judith Wheeler, daughter of General

Both are from Charles Ball s The History of the Indian Mutiny which was first published in 1860,

To survive the food shortages, and to deal with problem mentally some would often write
diaries, sketch or preform to get the situation out of their mind. These firsthand accounts of the
citizens of Leningrad shows how the people tried to stop the enemies from winning. Jones says
that Each diary relates an inner journey, and together they allow us to hear the real voice of
Leningrad, which many of the diarists must have feared was about to be silenced by the enemy.
These diaries helped keep up the moral of the Leningraders who were suffering from the lack of

patriotism, but rather the perseverance of the intellect, the protest against the humiliation of
hunger, against the dehumanization. Those who saved others were saved themselves. Jones

Reflection On Coaching Shadowing
I have critically reviewed both coaches A and B comparing them to each other. I will use Gibbs
(1988) model to help me reflective critically on the coaching shadowing I had to undertake as part
of my Sport Studies degree with the University of Hertfordshire during semester A. The reflection
is for both experiences with CoachA and B.
Coach A
Description
I undertook my coach shadowing in November for three weeks at Watford Academy. Sessions
were two hours long; the plan was to shadow at 8 hours for both coaches but as their training
schedule clashed with me under 12 team matches I was not able to do so. However, the overall
experience involved me shadowing coach A from a distance because the head of academy
believed it would be best I give the players and coach space. The sessions involved a mixture of
technical practices at the start with passing, dribbling and shooting activities then would progress
into tactical practices such as 5v3 possession, one versus one on goal, 6v3 counter/overload
scenarios and would normally end with a small sided game. I was also able to observe a match with
Arsenal V Watford U16. Arsenal won 5 0.
As for coach B I coach shadowed for four sessions, 90 minutes long, sessions included 30 minutes
of technical work, 10 minute tag game, 25 minutes on overloads and 20 minute match time.
Feelings
During the start of the experience, I felt thrilled, animated and overjoyed to have an opportunity
to shadow with Watford s academy. I saw it as an opportunity to get my foot in the door at the
club, so it could be a possible club I could work for in the future. However, as the experience
continued, and the weeks went by I was sceptical at the level of coaching I observed and frustrated
with the attitude from specific Watford players. From my point of view, I see it as a fantastic
opportunity for both coaches and players to use the club as a stepping stone to better
themselves and give 100% in every session. However, at times it felt like both coach and players
treated it like they were going to do a shift in a supermarket as an example. That was the vibe I
got, perhaps the coach did not meet his role as being a motivator for his players. Overall, I feel
fortunate and thankful to have

grew firmer as he progressed from line to line, and his voice went out across the desert, into the

The paradox is in the beginning of The Hearth and the Salamander Montag s bedroom is
characterized first as not empty and then as indeed empty, because Mildred is actually there, but
her reflections and reactions are in another part. The novelist s repeated use of such paradoxical
comments notably that an individuality or thing is dead and alive or there and not there is
regularly tested to Mildred, indicating her empty, half conscious condition. Bradbury also uses
these paradoxical assertions to represent the Electric Eyed Snake belly pump and, later, the
Mechanical Hound. These paradoxes query the reality of existences that are seemingly living but
devoutly dead. The animal and nature imagery provides another important point in the tale. Nature
is bestowed as a power of virtue and truth. Much of the book s animal imagery is ironic. Despite
this society is troubled with technology and ignores nature, many formidable mechanical tools are
designed after or called for animals, such as the Electric Eyed Snake machine and the Mechanical

Symbolism In Beowulf
Can Beowulf be a representation of Christ for the Anglo Saxon era people? Many have
speculated or at least pondered on his actions to be Christ like. When it comes down to it there
are people who claim Beowulf to be Christ like and there are people who say Beowulf is not
Christ like but just pagan folklore or an epic past down from generation to generation. In this
article you will hear reasons as to why he is considered Christ like through his own actions and
free will, you will see this through symbolism, portrayal of Christ, an example of knowing that
they will die, and finally knowing that they will be betrayed by their own followers . So if you
carefully read through this argument of the epic as to why Beowulfis like that, then you can at least
see a glimpse or fully pick up on his Christ like abilities by personality, actions, and patterns....

What was said earlier was that Beowulf was compassionate about his fellow man, he was kindly,
mild, gentle amongst man, and forgiving to his fellow man too. He was like this because he knew
man itself cannot thrive on it s own hate or prejudices but could thrive on life and learning. He
sought out the good in people to motivate them as Jesus Christ did. Beowulf did all of these good
deeds because he did it for the good of man and because he loathed the powers of evil that tempted
man. He did all this for the good of man and because he cared of his people too, in the end of the
epic Beowulf was proven to fight hard and save the treasure for his people so they could thrive
for many years. One other thing Beowulf did to prove this Christ like sense was that he always
thanked god, one example of this is, By favor of God we won the fight, did the deed of valor, and
boldly dared the might of the monster, (Pg. 19) In just that line not only did he thank God but he
was preaching to his men as well like Jesus

How Convergence And Localization Work
Introduction: Games industry as a sector of new digital media is now playing a vital role in
creating commercial value(Dovey and Kennedy, 2006). According to data given by guardian:
the number of sales of of video games(both software and hardware) reaches top for the first time,
four billion pounds in 2008, which is bigger than film and music sales(include CD,DVD and
cinema box office takings ). Furthermore, the value of sales in global games industry in 2015 is
72.4 billion dollars and specialists predict that it will value at one hundred and thirteen dollars by
2018. Video games gradually achieve great commercial value and play a vital role in the
entertanment industry. To emphasize, there are two indispensable factors making game... Show

In early age of development of game industry, localization is mainly reflected in simple
translation of text in games. Obvious examples can be found in japan game industry: As a core
of exporting video games in the early 1980s, Japan aimed to meet european and american players
need about language, we can find a lot of Japanese game translated into English: zero ring
published by SEGA, Yu Gi Oh published by KONAMI... As time went by and new need of
market and consumers occurred: Born of multiple themes of games in one game broke
traditional structure of game industry. These new games usher new creativity into the game
industry and expand markets all over the world. For example, Konami published a action game
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). This story allow you to choose a Ninja Turles to beat
the criminal and heal the world. Especially, is a ninja turtle from New York. This new mix of
western heroism and Oriental elements such as Ninja, japanese music attracts a lot of players in
new market such as Asia and achieved great commercial success in the whole world. In terms of
significance of localization, The first argument i hold about it is that due to trend of globalization,
localization is for granted seen as a irreplaceable strategy. According to Kerr and Flynn,
globalization is a continuous process that make the society closely connected. This can be shown in
a great number of flows of products, people, finance...

Rabbit Proof Fence Dehumanization
In the film Rabbit Proof Fence (Fence), director Philip Noyce has portrayed the extended effects of
the cruel treatment of the half caste children. This is done through evidence of physical and sexual
abuse, the dehumanization of the Indigenous children, and the forced cultural assimilation of the
taken Aboriginal children. Therefore the statement is true to a large extent, however the ways in
which Noyce does this are occasionally ambiguous and vague. Throughout the film the
dehumanization and animalization of the Indigenous peoples is an especially prevalent theme, and
is featured many times. The cruelty inflicted into the Aboriginal children is shown to have long
term effects on them (again shown through how Mavis is very scared in her adult years). These
effects can also be seen through Moodoo s experiences, working for Mr. Neville in an attempt to
get his daughter out of the Moore River camp. These examples are not the only ones throughout the
movie, symbolizing how the Aboriginals are treated much in the same way as livestock or animals.
Also shown through having the half caste children referred to as a third unwanted race ... Show

Through Mavis s accounts in the movie it is evident that she is being abused by her employer
/landlord. Other people like Mavis s landlord have been known to sexually abuse the grown up
Aboriginal children, in order to breed the Aboriginal out . In scenes in the Moore River camp, the
fairer skinned children in the camp are chosen by Mr. Neville and are taken away to live with
European families, to eventually contribute to the project Mr. Neville is trying to accomplish
(making the next generations of the Indigenous children whiter and upgrading them to white
status). However insightful the short scenes of Mavis and other scenes throughout the movie, the
topic of abuse is not covered especially in detail, but is still an important issue in the

Intro Aria Grande
The piece of music I decided to choose is Intro by Ariana Grande. Since I have such a strong love
for music there are a lot of song that I love and it s hard to choose one that I love the most.
However, if I was ever asked what is my favorite song I would probably say that song by Ariane
Grande is. She is a very talented artist and I love so many of her songs but that one is my favorite.
The only downside about the songis that it s only a minute and 20 seconds long because it s just
an intro to the album. Then again, I often think that s why it s such a great song, because it leaves
the mind wondering. The overall genre of this song is pop and R B which probably has something
to do with why I love the song so much because those are my two favorite genres. The... Show more

The tempo of the song is very consistent, it never speeds up nor slows down. The rhythm of this
song can be a bit hard to find since it s so slow but the rhythm follows the 1, 2, 3 pace. The texture
of the song changes, it starts off as homophonic when she accompanied by the backup singing the
accompanied by the instruments. Then it turns into monophonic with the solo of the
instruments. This song has two major functions in my life which is aesthetic enjoyment and
emotional expression. In my opinion, this song s beauty is the epitome of perfection, I have no
problem saying that this song is one of the, if not the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I
would say it functions say emotional expression because I feel as though with the melody alone
it speaks to me. Every single time I hear this song I feel that happy and peaceful feeling you feel
when you re in love. Even if not being in love this can make you excited for it. Though the song
is very slow, the mood of it is happy. You can tell from the lyrics that she is in love and happy to be
in love. You can also get hope from the lyrics, she is hopefully that they can go together and be

Gerald Graff And Rakoff s They Say I Say
In chapter seven of They Say / I Say, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein address how to improve
a topic through connectivity, and how the topic relates to the reader. They do so by introducing
the questions so what? and who cares? which, in their view, make for a more stimulating paper.
Even if an issue is obviously consequential, Birkenstein and Graff argue, the writer should go as
far as possible in answering those questions (100). One way the writer can do this is by refutibg
the standard opinion of their topic (97). Judge Jed Rakoff does precisely that in his article, Why
Innocent People Plead Guilty. He begins by noting that the criminal justice system bears little
resemblance to what the Founding Fathers contemplated . . . [and] what the average American
believes. Due to pleabargains, jury trials in the United States are exceedingly rare, in spite of
constitutional provisions for a speedy and public trial. If there is no trial, there can be no speedy
trial, and that means that this constitutional right, for most, is a myth. But while this revelation
complicates and adds relevance to Rakoff s topic, he also asks What s wrong with that? a
variation of so what? In answer to this question, he says that plea bargains are secret negotiations
that invite[] arbitrary results. Both innocent and guilty defendants, in other words, are placed in
the same pot, and the goal is to achieve the appearance of fairness, not the realization of it.
Considering ninety seven percent of federal convictions are the results of guilty pleas (Rakoff),
that is a haunting injustice. Journalist Antonia Malchik takes a similar approach to in The End of
Walking. The right to walk, as Malchik calls it, might not seem as important as the right to a fair
trial, but she is explicit about the cost. Walking, Malchik observes, is an interconnection of
cognitive processes that can have a significant impact on everything from cardiovascular disease to
muscle atrophy. Yet walking as way of life is more out of reach than ever. For instance, in 2013,
more than 4,700 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes (Malchik). Malchik further emphasizes
the seriousness of the situation by including a relevant

Q2:
How long will the project take to complete? And which activities are critical? After drawing the
structure of project plan, we have to research the duration while the project take to complete. We
will find the activities that must be completed on time for the project to complete on due date.
We know all of activities required time and immediate predecessors, finding out the longest
sequences of activities in a project plan. For

What will it cost to shorten the project by as many weeks as possible?
The project can be shortened by 6 weeks maximum.
Based on the crash time for 6 activities (A3 A4 A7and B2 B5 B6), we can come up with the new
numbers of weeks that each activity needs.
According to the critical path we already found, we could see that B9 is an important activity.
Once it was changed, B6 changed. So we also need
to find how A5 B3 B8 changed.
The crash of B5, B6 leaded to the change of A4 and A5 (17,21), so the crash of A3 is invalid; The
crash of B2 leaded to the change of C5, so B8 became (18,22); B2 changed B3 to (11.21). Then the
time of B9 changed to (22,30). Since the earliest time for B9 is 22 anyway, and we crashed
B5, B6 for one week each to make it s final time 21, we could cancel
B6 s crash for its higher cost.
Then we finally crash A7 for 2 weeks. so the final time for A8 was 46 followed by calculating.
The total cost to shorten the project is
A4+A7+B5+B2
=3900+7000+1700+3200=15800

Adult Opposition Theory
Murder is a disturbing crime that shocks people when it occurs, however it s more disturbing to
think that a child is capable of such a violent and atrocious act. It is often very hard to imagine that
a young child can be the source of such extreme violence and act in such an extreme manner. We as
adults may not always be able to understand why they commit delinquent acts, or exhibit extremely
violent and even commit a heinous crime such as murder. Psychological theories are able to give us
some understanding of why these things happen and understanding what drives a juvenile to
engage in criminal behavior may be able to ultimately help prevent further delinquency or
delinquent behavior taken into account the various factors that are involved.... Show more content

It is also possible that if his parents were able to figure out the cause of what caused his actions
that they would have been able to help him in some way. We can t always know what is
happening, but even Josh s father admits he could have handled certain situations differently. This
just goes to show that children will react to situations in whatever ways they feel are necessary.
Sometimes is it hard to explain why a juvenile takes to delinquency due to the high numbers of
factors that comes into play, and what causes them to act the way they do. The best thing we can
do for juveniles is to help them in any way that fits their unique circumstances and try to show them
that there are positive outlets for their anger and frustrations and positive ways of expressing

My College and Career choices
My College and Career choices
My three college choices are University of Florida, University of Seattle and Ohio University.
Each of these colleges have good qualities for my careers. I m not very sure what exactly I want
to have a career in. Two of my main choices are veterinarian or child care. Some of my concerns
are the distance, cost of tuition, the quality of the program, and the recreation at the colleges.
University of Florida is my first choice. The tuition for my enrollment would be $6,270. With this
college there are 16 programs for this university. For each semester you need to have 15 credits.

Ohio State is very close to home. and is in state.
I talked about how I wasn t really sure what I wanted to do as my career. I thought of either child
care or veterinarian. Job requirements for child care are you have to be able to take act in a
emergency situation. You need to be able to connect with kids and show them you care. This is
a very social job too. Working conditions for this job could be outside, inside, at home, at a day
care, or in a school. The job requirements for a veterinarian is you need the skills. You need to
have passion for animals, you need business skills, and social skills. The working conditions for
this job can be in a clinic and/or outside. This job can be a traveling job, such as farms or other
homes.
The salary for child care can range from $45,000 to 116,000. The salary range for a veterinarian
is from $49,000 to $113,000. These are really good paying jobs that could really provide enough
for me. The benefits for child care are you get to interact with kids and connect to them on another
level. The benefits for veterinarian are interacting with animals and to help their needs and stay
alive.
These are to good supporting jobs. There are more and more clinics for vets and children. I feel I
will probably end up working for someone close and then try to start my own business in Florida.

  • 3. Analysis Of The Book The Essay Callum shouldered his sack, eyes focused on the back of the man before him, trying not to think about the ache in his feet, the soreness of his back, the grime that layered his body. Just keep marching, keep moving Callum repeated in his head like a mantra. Callum could see in the distance beyond the trees the faint outlines of green hills. Hills that he last remembered were bathed in red and flesh. Over a year has passed since the First Battle of Bull Run and so much as changed since then. With a lack of manpower and volunteers, the Confederacy issued a draft for all men of age. Of course, Callum could have bought his way out of the draft, if it were not for his rat bastard of a father. Said war would put some hair on his chest that it would be good for him and then refused to cover the draft fees. So here Callum was, trudging alongside several thousand men under General Lee s command. The Union has been trying to gain control of Virginia since the very inception of the war. After Virginia joined the Confederacy, it was rewarded with the Confederate capitol in Richmond due to its industry and factories. His hometown was the only large scale industrial city in the Confederacy. Having the capitol and the bulk of the army here allowed for easy restocking of supplies. It was a logistically sound move, but also a dangerous one. Virginia lies at the border of the Confederacy and the Union, not even a hundred miles south of the Union s capital in Washington. • 4. Magical Realism In The Film Big Fish Magical realism is the idea of unordinary events happening throughout a novel or film. The events are bizarre, yet occur in a realistic setting with normal people. Magical realism is similar, yet is not to be confused with, fantasy. In fantasy the author creates their own world, whereas magical realism is based in the real world. Fantasy can include many unrealistic concepts, such as dragons, the land of make believe and evil witches. All these things would fit in an elaborate fantasy story just fine. However, with magical realismthe illogical events are subtle and the story s plot doesn t necessarily revolve around the magic. In a way it s like mixing reality with fiction, sort of like a dream. The story begins with a raging storm that has been ongoing for three days, the setting of the story is gloomy and grey. Marquez states, The world has been sad since Tuesday. Sea and sky were a single ashgray thing and the sands.. had become a stew of mud and rotten shellfish (par 1). This foreshadows darkness and the possible renewal with the connection to the third day. Amongst all this havoc an angel arrives and the qualities of human evil begin to show through Pelayo and his wife Elisenda. When they re told that he is infact an angel, they decide to keep him captive in their house. Pelayo is very aggressive in his demeanor towards the angel, Pelayo watched over him all afternoon from the kitchen, armed with a bailiff s club, and before going to bed he dragged him out of the mud and locked him up with the hens in the wire coop ( par 3). From the moment the couple discovered this being whom was different then they are, they ostracized him. Marquez highlights the negative response humans reflect on those who are weak and or odd. Once Pelayo and Elisenda s child recovered it is stated, they felt magnanimous and decided to put the angel on a raft with fresh water and provisions for three days and leave him to his fate on the high seas (par 3). Although that would be better than captivity, it isn t necessarily kind to leave something weak to fend for itself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Companies and The Market Most companies are profit oriented. Companies survive and live on profit. Even governmental institutions, NGO s and NPO s are profit oriented, what they do with profit is different though. Saying this means that companies seek always to be at a position where profit is maximized. As we know by now this happens when MC=MR but this is an always changing point as supply and demand are dynamic, effectively meaning that if firms get it right once they can t just do the same eternally, they still need to adapt to every market factor as a new change is a new reality all together that needs to be studied and addressed. This type of market structure has a number of different characteristics from the above. Which turn it into one of the most used market structures. In this scenario, companies are not all price takers and start making use of economies of scale in order to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase profits. In the scenario companies sell a differentiated product at different prices. Like in perfect competition no barriers are put to entry and newcomers a constant threat to the market keeping every player always in search for a better mean to produce and compete. An oligopoly, is when there are only a few number of companies that control a specific market. The barriers to entry can be both legal/political (ie. number of licenses awarded to cell phone operators) to the fact that the companies themselves create a cartel like attitude effectively brushing of the market new entrants through aggressive measures like undercutting pricing on new smaller entrants, controlling inputs for production, etc. On the other end of the market structures are monopolies. Monopolies are generally quite inefficient in the sense that consumers don t have a choice in terms of what to consume and generally speaking don t offer good value for money as the company dictates the price of the good irrespective of cost (as we ... Sadly, these wetlands are being submerged and destroyed at the rate of over a football field an hour. The main causes of Louisianas wetlands disappearing are the levees that prevent the Mississippi from dropping rich sediment at the mouth of the river to create barrier islands, and the careless actions of oil and gas companies (creating pipelines everywhere and frequent oil spills). Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1 Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014 P1 Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and web functionality. Internet Service Providers (ISP) ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure. Web Hosting Services Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone trying to access it via a server. Domain Structure The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a website than to remember its I.P. address. • 20. Bacterial Lawns 1. Did your bacterial lawns contain only one species of bacteria on each plate, based on lawn appearance? If not, why do you think that is? I do believe that my bacterial lawns contained only one species of bacteria on each plate, they are consistent in color and appearance from the bacteria colonies from Experiment 1. There is only one difference and it involves plate 1, the toilet handle. I was unsure if it was because of the bacteria or in reaction to the antibiotics but around the Kanamycin ZOI there is a brighter yellow ring around it. I thought it was strange that only around there was such a reaction but as I said I was not sure if it was a reaction to the Kanamycin. 2. Which antibiotic was most effective in killing the bacterial lawn on each plate? Which was the least effective? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that the bacteria for this lawn have cells that are surrounded by a cell wall which includes a thin layer of peptidoglycan and surrounding that is an outer lipid membrane that does not contain the Gram strain. Yet at the same time while Kanamycin was the most effective the Ampicillin and Penicillin had reactions as well. The Ampicillin would kill both Gram positive and Gram negative so this could indicate that there are Gram negative bacteria in the lawn, but the fact that the Penicillin worked as well was what was interesting. This means that this bacterial lawn contains both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Gram positive are bacteria with cell walls that contain a thick layer of peptiodoglycan that retains the Gram strain. For plate 2, trashcan lid, only the Kanamcyin worked which indicates that the only bacteria in this lawn are Gram negative, but if that is true why didn t the Ampicillin work at all? Ampicillin works to kill both positive and negative grams, but there was no reaction this time. Could it be that it needs more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Chemical Contamination In Marine Mammals Abstract Dating back to the 1970s when people began to realize the toxic effects pollutants like PCBs and DDT were having on all kinds of organisms, marine mammals came into focus as particularly vulnerable and at risk for adverse health effects with exposure to these contaminants. Since then researchers have worked to determine exactly what harm these animals are succumbing to. The chemical properties of persistent organic pollutants along with the biomagnification of organochlorines through the trophic levels and the bioaccumulation of these chemicals in the blubber of marine mammals, explain why these animals are significantly affected by these hazardous chemicals. Bioaccumulation can also explain important trends in PCBs and DDT concentrations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marine mammals can live for decades and have large blubber layers that attract and store fat soluble chemicals. They also feed at the top levels of long food chains and therefore act as and end point for much of the accumulation in food webs (O Shea, 1999). This concept encompasses two major principles of contamination in marine mammals: bioaccumulation and biomagnification. The latter is described as the tendency of organochlorines to concentrate as they are moved up the trophic levels (O Shea, 1999). An evaluation of the chemical contaminants found in marine mammals from Washington state found that PCB concentrations in seal blubber were 110 times higher than levels found in their fish prey in the Puget Sound, and 56 times higher than their fish prey in Hood Canal (Calambokidis et al., 1984). Calambokidis et al. (1984) concludes there was a significant percentage of organochlorines in fish prey being absorbed and stored by adult male seals. Biomagnification relates to the various diets of marine mammals at different levels in a food chain. Odontocetes and pinnipeds who feed on higher trophic levels such as fish, invertebrates, squid, and other marine mammals, tend to have higher organochlorine concentrations than Mysticetes or low trophic level feeders (O Shea, 1999). A prime example of this is comparing two eco types of Orcinus orca, transient and resident, from the Kenai Fjords /Prince William Sound, AK region (Ylitalo et al., 2001). Although there are many distinctions between these two groups such as habitat use, the main one is that transient killer whales are marine mammal eaters and resident killer whales are fish eaters. This difference causes much higher concentrations of organochlorines in transient killer whales than in resident groups, indicating species who feed in higher trophic levels collect more organochlorines (Ylitalo et al., 2001). Imagine yourself surrounded by a pool of water, but not just any pool of water, the biggest one of all: the ocean. You re in the ocean attempting to swim, but only this time, instead of moving your arms over your head and your legs up and down, your only moving your lower half, up and down. Dolphins alert stress levels to other dolphins by altering the pitch of their signature whistle (Wexler, 1994). Transition: After learning about a dolphin s sense of communication, we can now build upon this information by examining their unique behavior. 2.This proved that these interactions were defining their social relationships (Rohan, 2003). ii. • 23. Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that classical, in particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have chosen three beatles songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope to find many correlations between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have chosen is the song Blackbird. McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s Bouree in E minor, of which he and George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxZhWCAuQw https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=APNI2CC0k6A list=RDAPNI2CC0k6A index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor (Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar, for example the song Blackbird is majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as named, is in a minor key. This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and therefore the relative major key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the similarities between the two pieces. The BourrГ©e is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the BourrГ©e and reharmonized it into the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the musical idea throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies. Part of its structure is a particular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She finds herself in Tiburon, South Carolina with her nanny Rosaleen and three black women, August, June and May who unravel the story to her mother s past. Lily s story can be seen in different layers, the most significant layers are the religious, thematic and symbolic layers. These three layers are essential when trying to gain understanding of The Secret Life of Bees. In The Secret Life of bees you can learn a lot from the thematic layer. Three salient themes in this layer are forgiveness, hope and strength. Hope is shown when Zach talks to Lily about becoming a lawyer one day, I ve just never heard of a Negro lawyer, that s all. • 25. Utopian Cults Essays For many years, cults have been a subject of great controversy. A cult is a group of people that are bound together by an appreciation of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. Usually these groups keep close because of religious reasons, but their beliefs are almost always considered strange by outsiders. Cults are similar to clans or congregations, but are usually referred to as sects. There are many different categories that a cult could be sorted into. Apocalyptic, Utopian, Spiritualistic, Satanic, and Witchcraft/Voodoo cults are just some of the more basic types. While an Apocalyptic cult would focus on the end of the world, a Utopian cult would center more on a perfect land, or in other words a heaven on Earth. Spiritualistic cults ... Utopian Cults created exclusive, self supporting communities that were completely isolated from the sinful world. In all of these cults, success of the community was most important and individual wants came second. The leader of the clan would assign jobs to his/her followers and they had to work. Assignments were usually tasks such as farming, because the cult s community was isolated from the rest of the world and needed to feed themselves. At the age of 22, Jim Jones opened his first church, the People s Temple in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jones taught his followers to treat all races equally which was not popular in the early fifties. To show their disapproval, many people would knock him off of his bike and some even threw dead cats into his church, but Jones kept preaching. I will use Gibbs (1988) model to help me reflective critically on the coaching shadowing I had to undertake as part of my Sport Studies degree with the University of Hertfordshire during semester A. The reflection is for both experiences with CoachA and B. Coach A Description I undertook my coach shadowing in November for three weeks at Watford Academy. Sessions were two hours long; the plan was to shadow at 8 hours for both coaches but as their training schedule clashed with me under 12 team matches I was not able to do so. However, the overall experience involved me shadowing coach A from a distance because the head of academy believed it would be best I give the players and coach space. The sessions involved a mixture of technical practices at the start with passing, dribbling and shooting activities then would progress into tactical practices such as 5v3 possession, one versus one on goal, 6v3 counter/overload scenarios and would normally end with a small sided game. I was also able to observe a match with Arsenal V Watford U16. Arsenal won 5 0. As for coach B I coach shadowed for four sessions, 90 minutes long, sessions included 30 minutes of technical work, 10 minute tag game, 25 minutes on overloads and 20 minute match time. Feelings During the start of the experience, I felt thrilled, animated and overjoyed to have an opportunity to shadow with Watford s academy. I saw it as an opportunity to get my foot in the door at the club, so it could be a possible club I could work for in the future. However, as the experience continued, and the weeks went by I was sceptical at the level of coaching I observed and frustrated with the attitude from specific Watford players. From my point of view, I see it as a fantastic opportunity for both coaches and players to use the club as a stepping stone to better themselves and give 100% in every session. However, at times it felt like both coach and players treated it like they were going to do a shift in a supermarket as an example. That was the vibe I got, perhaps the coach did not meet his role as being a motivator for his players. Overall, I feel fortunate and thankful to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Montag s Use Of Figurative Language Essay who reads. It was a look, almost, of pale surprise; the dark eyes were so fixed to the world that no move escaped them. Her dress was white and it whispered. (Bradbury 5). The argument feels very whimsical to me. The passage displays a great use of adjectives. Reading the verse to Millie s friends, the composer describes his talking. Then he began to read in a low, stumbling voice that grew firmer as he progressed from line to line, and his voice went out across the desert, into the whiteness, and around the three sitting women there in the great hot emptiness (Bradbury 99). This allows a very crystal feeling of the exact environment in the area through his reading. Bradbury is popular for his amazingly descriptive style. He uses figurative language (mostly metaphors, similes and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The paradox is in the beginning of The Hearth and the Salamander Montag s bedroom is characterized first as not empty and then as indeed empty, because Mildred is actually there, but her reflections and reactions are in another part. The novelist s repeated use of such paradoxical comments notably that an individuality or thing is dead and alive or there and not there is regularly tested to Mildred, indicating her empty, half conscious condition. Bradbury also uses these paradoxical assertions to represent the Electric Eyed Snake belly pump and, later, the Mechanical Hound. These paradoxes query the reality of existences that are seemingly living but devoutly dead. The animal and nature imagery provides another important point in the tale. Nature is bestowed as a power of virtue and truth. Much of the book s animal imagery is ironic. Despite this society is troubled with technology and ignores nature, many formidable mechanical tools are designed after or called for animals, such as the Electric Eyed Snake machine and the Mechanical ... • 42. Symbolism In Beowulf Can Beowulf be a representation of Christ for the Anglo Saxon era people? Many have speculated or at least pondered on his actions to be Christ like. When it comes down to it there are people who claim Beowulf to be Christ like and there are people who say Beowulf is not Christ like but just pagan folklore or an epic past down from generation to generation. In this article you will hear reasons as to why he is considered Christ like through his own actions and free will, you will see this through symbolism, portrayal of Christ, an example of knowing that they will die, and finally knowing that they will be betrayed by their own followers . So if you carefully read through this argument of the epic as to why Beowulfis like that, then you can at least see a glimpse or fully pick up on his Christ like abilities by personality, actions, and patterns.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was said earlier was that Beowulf was compassionate about his fellow man, he was kindly, mild, gentle amongst man, and forgiving to his fellow man too. He was like this because he knew man itself cannot thrive on it s own hate or prejudices but could thrive on life and learning. He sought out the good in people to motivate them as Jesus Christ did. Beowulf did all of these good deeds because he did it for the good of man and because he loathed the powers of evil that tempted man. He did all this for the good of man and because he cared of his people too, in the end of the epic Beowulf was proven to fight hard and save the treasure for his people so they could thrive for many years. One other thing Beowulf did to prove this Christ like sense was that he always thanked god, one example of this is, By favor of God we won the fight, did the deed of valor, and boldly dared the might of the monster, (Pg. 19) In just that line not only did he thank God but he was preaching to his men as well like Jesus ... • 44. Rabbit Proof Fence Dehumanization In the film Rabbit Proof Fence (Fence), director Philip Noyce has portrayed the extended effects of the cruel treatment of the half caste children. This is done through evidence of physical and sexual abuse, the dehumanization of the Indigenous children, and the forced cultural assimilation of the taken Aboriginal children. Therefore the statement is true to a large extent, however the ways in which Noyce does this are occasionally ambiguous and vague. Throughout the film the dehumanization and animalization of the Indigenous peoples is an especially prevalent theme, and is featured many times. The cruelty inflicted into the Aboriginal children is shown to have long term effects on them (again shown through how Mavis is very scared in her adult years). These effects can also be seen through Moodoo s experiences, working for Mr. Neville in an attempt to get his daughter out of the Moore River camp. • 46. Gerald Graff And Rakoff s They Say I Say In chapter seven of They Say / I Say, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein address how to improve a topic through connectivity, and how the topic relates to the reader. They do so by introducing the questions so what? and who cares? which, in their view, make for a more stimulating paper. Even if an issue is obviously consequential, Birkenstein and Graff argue, the writer should go as far as possible in answering those questions (100). One way the writer can do this is by refutibg the standard opinion of their topic (97). Judge Jed Rakoff does precisely that in his article, Why Innocent People Plead Guilty. He begins by noting that the criminal justice system bears little resemblance to what the Founding Fathers contemplated . . . [and] what the average American believes. Due to pleabargains, jury trials in the United States are exceedingly rare, in spite of constitutional provisions for a speedy and public trial. If there is no trial, there can be no speedy trial, and that means that this constitutional right, for most, is a myth. But while this revelation complicates and adds relevance to Rakoff s topic, he also asks What s wrong with that? a variation of so what? In answer to this question, he says that plea bargains are secret negotiations that invite[] arbitrary results. Both innocent and guilty defendants, in other words, are placed in the same pot, and the goal is to achieve the appearance of fairness, not the realization of it. Considering ninety seven percent of federal convictions are the results of guilty pleas (Rakoff), that is a haunting injustice. Journalist Antonia Malchik takes a similar approach to in The End of Walking. The right to walk, as Malchik calls it, might not seem as important as the right to a fair trial, but she is explicit about the cost. Walking, Malchik observes, is an interconnection of cognitive processes that can have a significant impact on everything from cardiovascular disease to muscle atrophy. Yet walking as way of life is more out of reach than ever. For instance, in 2013, more than 4,700 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes (Malchik). Malchik further emphasizes the seriousness of the situation by including a relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based on the crash time for 6 activities (A3 A4 A7and B2 B5 B6), we can come up with the new numbers of weeks that each activity needs. According to the critical path we already found, we could see that B9 is an important activity. Once it was changed, B6 changed. So we also need to find how A5 B3 B8 changed. The crash of B5, B6 leaded to the change of A4 and A5 (17,21), so the crash of A3 is invalid; The crash of B2 leaded to the change of C5, so B8 became (18,22); B2 changed B3 to (11.21). Then the time of B9 changed to (22,30). Since the earliest time for B9 is 22 anyway, and we crashed B5, B6 for one week each to make it s final time 21, we could cancel B6 s crash for its higher cost. Then we finally crash A7 for 2 weeks. so the final time for A8 was 46 followed by calculating. It is often very hard to imagine that a young child can be the source of such extreme violence and act in such an extreme manner. We as adults may not always be able to understand why they commit delinquent acts, or exhibit extremely violent and even commit a heinous crime such as murder.
