SalingerSymbolism InCatcher In The Rye
Catcher EBR Salinger used erasing profanity and museums to convey his theme that everyone
experiences a loss of innocence at some point in their life as it is unavoidable. Salinger uses the
symbol of erasing profanity to symbolize an attempt by Holden to protect the school children s
innocence. While Holden is waiting at the school to deliver his note to Phoebe he notices that
someone wrote fuck you on the wall. Holden tries to save the kids from seeing these bad words as he
erases it off of the wall. However what he doesn t realize is who wrote the explicit words. Holden
assumes it was some homeless bum because he doesn t realise that the kids in the school know what
these words mean. He just thinks that by erasing the words he save the kids innocence, like he is the
Catcher in the Rye . Somebody d written Fuck you on the wall. It drove me damn near crazy. I thought
how Phoebe and all the other little kids would see it, and how they d wonder what the hell it meant.
(Pg, 221) I figured it was some pervert bum that d sneaked in the school late at night. (pg,221) Holden
still has this idea in his mind that all kids are innocent and that he can help them stay away from the
adult world forever hence being innocent forever. He just assumes that it was some bum off the street,
but that s absurd as why would a random person just think that writing those words on the wall would
be funny. Holden still

The Purpose Of The Supernatural In Literary Works
The purpose of the supernatural in Literary Works The purpose of the supernatural in literature can
vary in function from story to story. The supernatural can be used to create a certain mood in writing
or to enhance the dramatic effect of a story. The supernatural can also be used as the reasoning behind
a story and act as the theme it centers on, creating a paranormal effect and a mystical experience for
the reader.
In human nature there exists a morbid desire to explore the darker side of life. As human beings we
make every effort to deny our curiosity in the things that frighten us, but deep down we secretly thrive
on that cool rush of fear. Despite our efforts to maintain a balance of our emotions, we are a society of
people who slow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story again reinforces the severity of defying the supernatural, and the strong belief the puritans
held in the actuality of a figurative God and Devil. This story repercussions the idea that there is
nowhere to hide from these supernatural powers.
Poe uses the supernatural to create a fear and set a mood in his stories. They are dark and always seem
to have a surprise lurking around each turn. He reinforces the fear of an overpowering doom that
cannot be escaped. In the story, The Telltale Heart, the imagery of a heart beating beneath the
floorboards is riveting. You feel that the heart is really beating; it s not just the imagination of a
madman. The narration is done totally in the first person and never gives the sex of the person. The
narrator is described as the caretaker of an old man. This technique allows the reader to identify with
the narrator/murderer and assume the caretaker is the same sex as the reader. When women read the
Telltale Heart most feel the narrator is a woman, as most caretakers are women. When a man reads
this story he believes that the narrator is a man, for most murderers are men. Poe puts good against
evil through sharp contradictions in the story. The old man s deformed eye represents evil, yet the
narrator describes him as never wronging her or insulting her. The narrator insists she is not crazy, but
then commits

The US minority groups include the blacks, Asian Americans, Hawaiians and American Indians.
Based on gender, men are the majority while the women are the minority with the religious category
including the Muslims, Amish, Mormons and Roman Catholics as the minorities. The class that will
be considered and laid emphasis on in this paper is the ethnic classification. The rich cultural diversity
that the Indian Americans and African Americans brought into America can be identified through their
cultures and how they interact and relate to one another. Through this paper, I will discuss the
elements of each culture, compare and contrast the differences and similarities and how the two may
interact with the dominant group as minority groups.
African Americans
Most of the African Americans in the United States have their roots deeply embedded in Africa. The
Africans were held captive in the US from 1555 to 1865 when the slave trade was rampant (Tishkoff,
et al., 2009). The African Americans had numerous titles such as Negroes and Colored, but the terms
are no longer accepted in English and currently people of the ethnic group are referred to as African
Americans or Blacks. The Blacks originated from the numerous ethnic groups from mainly the Central
and Western Africa. Another minority group originated from eastern and south eastern Africa. The
different groups may have been different

`` Confessions Of A Workaholic `` By Wayne Oates
One in four workers can be classified as a workaholic nevertheless; it is still vastly underestimated in
the damages it can cause (Griffiths, 2011). Workaholism has been coined as the respectable addiction
and the hard working man s disease; however, workaholism is a deadly disease that affects the
workaholic, their family, friends, and even coworkers. The Japanese term for workaholism is karoshi
and is estimated to kill over 1,000 deaths a year (Williams, 2012). The definition of a workaholic
remains vague and unconstructive; however, the symptoms and manifestations can be quite clear.
Merriam Webster defines workaholic as a person who chooses to work a lot: a person who is always
working, thinking about work, etc. In 1971, Wayne E. Oates coined the term Workaholic in his novel,
Confessions of a Workaholic. Wayne Oates was an American psychologist and religious educator.
Oates asserts that working can become an addiction just as alcohol (Oates, 1971). A major contributor
to the problem is the belief that hard work leads to greater wealth (Williams, 2012). Workaholism is
considered by many to be a respectable addiction and a positive thing. These people lack
understanding into the true nature and dangers of this addiction. Numerous myths surround
workaholism including: workaholics are always working; no one ever died of hard work;
Workaholism only adversely affects the workaholic (Fassel, 1990). It is imperative that a distinction
be made between workaholism and

The Evolution Of The Music Industry Essay
The evolution of the music industry follows the familiar pattern of digitization. Innovation began with
the introduction of the vinyl record, transitioned from the cassette tape to the compact disc and landed
us in an era of digital downloads. The emergence of music streaming services like Spotify has
progressed the industry even further, giving consumers the ability to access music on demand using
download free online platforms. Spotify faces criticism from artists as a result of the overlap of
creativity and commerce. They argue that business activities corrupt creativity, transforming it into a
tool for profitability rather than an outlet for expression. Artists insist that Spotify deters album sales,
favors established artists and fails to support them financially. However, Spotify was created for
consumers. It delivers an accessible alternative to purchasing and downloading music. The interplay
between creativity and commerce is changing the nature of the music industry. Spotify has adapted to
this change, providing a platform that supports both artists and consumers. Through analysis of the
market, artist s revenue, record labels and consumers, I will argue that artists should accept the
evolution of the industry and support Spotify.
Spotify is a product of change. Consumers today are not the same as they were fifty years ago.
Businesses like Spotify know this and use it to their advantage. According to industry expert Dave
Touve, people pay more, on average, for

would lose my way. In addition, I can order pizza or anything else in the internet. In business, we
cannot without it. We used for information based system, intranet, and paperless system at work. We

Aesthetic Expression
Aesthetic Expression is addressed in the power point presentation in lesson one. In this presentation,
the students are given insight into the song and its origin so that they may understand and appreciate
the culture that it represents. By giving a brief history into the musical aspect the culture and showing
how it benefits daily life, student will be encouraged to use music to express themselves. They should
also develop respect and appreciation for their own culture and musical genres.
Citizenship is addressed in the choice of song. The text to the song is in Spanish, a foreign language
that is a connection to the core curriculum of music. By using a piece that is not of their own culture,
the students will expand their knowledge of multiculturalism while it deepens their understanding of
the contributions other cultures have made into developing and defining our own. Explaining the
similarities and differences of the Spanish culture to ours will also foster a deeper understanding of
our own cultural identity and our heritage. This explanation will also take place in the power point

Factors Affecting Population Growth
According to the book, there are three main factors that influence population growth. The first factor
the book addresses is childhood mortality. Childhood mortality refers to the amount of children who
die before age five. According to a website called ourworldindata.com, the child mortality rate in 2015
was around 4.3 percent. Childhood mortality can impact population growth because if the mortality
rate is high, the amount of childhood deaths would cause less population growth. A decrease in
childhood mortality could cause families to have smaller families since there is a higher likelihood of
their children surviving. Education is the second factor that impacts population growth. According to
the book, people who are educated tend to wait to have children or get married due to their occupation
or due to them working towards their occupation. This can impact population growth by reducing the
number of children a women has due to her getting married older, having children when she is older,
and dedicating time to work and children. Women who live in uneducated areas tend to marry and
have children around their teens, increases the population yet also increasing poverty and lack of
hygiene. The third and last factor is the lack of access to contraceptives. According to the book,
contraceptives tend to decrease the amount of children a women has, allows more women to have
children who survive the birthing process, and reduces the amount of women who die in childbirth.

Is Belgium A Nation Of The International Market Through...
Belgium becomes a nation that creates a foothold in the international market through colonization in
Congo. Even though the exploitation was ramped throughout all the colonies, Congo might have been
the most extreme case of exploitation. Through the exploitation of the Congo lands, and the
government deeming most of the rain forest uninhabitable those lands were turned over to the
Belgium government and the resources were exhausted in that area. As the rubber vines would dry up
and die the expectation output from the Belgium government remained the same. In fact it was well
documented that government officials gave the green light to allow harsh punishments to be
administered on to the villagers if they were short on the amount of rubber that was produced. Soldiers
killed gathers or sometimes their families as punishment for not meeting their quotes (Gilbert and
Reynolds 279). The brutality of the soldiers methods were barbaric, to show that [the soldiers] had not
stolen or wasted the ammunition [the soldiers] were expected to bring back the hands of their victims
(Gilbert and Reynolds 279). With the diminishing supply of rubber in the Congo the harsher the
punishment was being distributed to the African people in the Congo, and King Leopold s Free State
was losing money.
As the demand rose and the supply was diminishing many of the villages fled into the forest (Gilbert
and Reynolds 279) while others would rebel against the Belgium government, and hostilities

Heart Of Darkness Sexism
In Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, he tells the story of an adventure from Europe to
Africa during the 1800 s. The narrator, Marlow, tells the majority of the story and all about his
adventures while traveling to the Congo River. Many critics have commented on the novella since it
was published in 1899, stating that Conrad was a racist, but there are many other things also wrong
with the way he writes the short story. Despite the fact that the novella was written during a time
period when only upper class white males had rights, Heart of Darkness emphasizes the differences in
races and sexes. Conrad s Heart of Darkness is filled with many male characters and very few women.

Marlow says She must have had the value of several elephant tusks upon her. She was savage and
superb, wild eyes and magnificent; there was something ominous and stately in her deliberate
progress. (Conrad 60). This is another place in the novella where a women appears to be out of her
place, due to Conrad constantly stating that women need to be in their place . Conrad wants his
description to come off as describing the women as beautiful and sexual with no knowledge, yet she
actually appears to be wealthy and have some sort of status. Mcintire also found this to be true stating,
Nevertheless, the African woman is given an important signifying power since as she struts along the
river bank, holding her head high ... (Mcintire). Throughout Heart of Darkness, there are only a total
of 8 women mentioned and all of them are supposed to lack knowledge and only live in their world .
Yet, Conrad seems to accidentally or possibly purposely, give some of these women a significant role
in the novella. Despite these women having some sort of authority in the novel, it is clear in that the
way he describes this authority is very brief which reveals how he is actually threatened by women.
Throughout the novel there are many male characters, all who have names, voices and authority, yet
none of the women have any of these things. All of the women in

Cinematic Techniques in Strictly Ballroom Essay
Extended Film Response
How the film techniques used by Baz Luhrman to influence the portrayal and development of
characters in the film Strictly Ballroom?
In the film Strictly Ballroom, the director Baz Luhrman uses many different film techniques to
influence the portrayal and development of characters. Costume and makeup is used as a vital
technique to show the audience the characters personalities and also the development of some
characters. Camera angles and lighting is another technique that is used to exaggerate the characters
personalities and the scenes they are in. Luhrman also uses character behaviors as an effective
technique in portraying each characters personality.

Even though Fran became more confident, her costume and makeup still suited her personality. For
example at the Pan Pacific Grand Prix, all of the other female dancers wore bright coloured, revealing
outfits, Fran wore a traditional red Spanish dress. At the end of the film Fran s physical appearance
changed dramatically and so did her confidence. These characters are good examples of how Luhrman
uses costume and makeup to effectively influence the portrayal and development of characters in the
film.
In Strictly Ballroom, Luhrman uses many different camera angles and lighting techniques to
exaggerate scenes, settings and even characters personalities. An example of this is at the start of the
film, when Scott Hastings is dancing by himself in a room, there is a bright, white spotlight on him as
he dances, drawing the audience to watch him. This happens whenever Scott dances and it shows the
audience that Scott has a sense of purity and that he is the protagonist of the film. Luhrman uses low
angle shots when Scott and Fran are dancing at the end of the film, this is a good technique used so the
audience can see them dancing and also gives the audience the impression that they are dominate and
confident. Another character who is a good example of camera angles and film techniques being used
on them to portray their personality is Barry Fife. Barry is a mean character and Luhrman uses dark,
reddish lighting to make him seem evil.

Al Seckel Visual Illusions
Al Seckel, a cognitive neuroscientist, explores the idea that a violation in our visual perception can
cause us to feel a sense of joy during a TedTalk presentation in Monterey, California on February 26,
2004. He elaborates on this idea by presenting the audience with various examples of visual illusions
concerning a violation in depth, colour, shape, size, and etc. The lecture is packed with various types
of visual illusions ranging from old to new, from artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci to Arthur Ganson
and he even included several examples of the visual illusions he has created. His hypothesis regarding
the delight in visual illusions is correct, as throughout the lecture, when presented with new visual
illusions the audience is entertained and joyful.
Textual Connections
Several connections can be drawn between the topics and types of visual illusions covered in the
textbook and the types of visual illusion shown by Al Seckel in the TedTalk lecture. One of the
connections I was able to draw from reading the chapter in the textbook regarding visual illusions and
watching the TedTalk lecture was the violation of size, accomplished by using a converging line. The
textbook shows the Ponzo Illusion, where the line closer to the converging line is perceived as being
much larger than the line farther away from the converging line (Cramer et al., 2017). Al Seckel shows
an image he has created using the Ponzo Illusion, called Pick on Someone Your Own Size (Seckel,
2007). In

Sexual Identity And Cultural Identity In Mosquita Y Mari
Mosquita y Mari is a film about two sophomore girls who begin a friendship, and quickly develop
intimate feelings for one another. Main character Yolanda is a straight A, 4.0 GPA student who has the
goal of going to college in the United States as her main priority. Upon starting high school, Yolanda s
two best friends from middle school drift away from her, meeting new crowds and begin consuming
marijuana and alcohol regularly. Unable to ask her parents for advice due to the growing tension in
their marriage, Yolanda opts to start a new friendship with a neighbor and classmate by the name of
Mari. Mari is a rebel that does poorly in school, skips classes and sells shop flyers to help her mother
pay bills after the death of her father. Like many second generation Mexican immigrants in the United
States, Yolanda and Mari experience different cultural identities on a day to day basis. A cultural
identity is the feeling of belonging to a group of people. A majority of second generation immigrants
experience American cultural identities in public and Mexican cultural identities in the household.
Individual conflicts may arise when an individual tries to integrate a new culture into their lives,
which can create stress and identity issues. One identity issue that many immigrants struggle with is
the development of a sexual identity, also known as how a person views themselves in relation to
whom they are attracted to. Second generation immigrants to America fail to explore

Slavery was a massive issue many African Americans faced during the civil war. The film Lincoln,

American people. Lincoln wished to pass the thirteenth amendment in the House of Representatives,

Many people disagreed with the passing of this law. Many feared that the abolishing of slaves will
affect many job opportunities for themselves. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863,
which had freed most slaves as a fighter in the war but had not made slavery illegal. Lincoln faith
towards passing this issue was very extreme. Slaves where page the bare minimum for their service in
the war. However, in order for slavery to be abolished, Lincoln had to gain votes from Democratic and
Republican parties. Some politicians see peace as a necessary precursor to the passing of the

What is hairspray made of?
Hairspray is a solution of long, chainlike molecules (called polymers) in a very volatile solvent.

Other polymers used in plastic based hairsprays are copolymers with vinyl acetate and copolymers
with maleic anhydride .
Some hairsprays use natural polymers and solvents like vegetable gums dissolved in alcohol. One
popular ingredient is gum arabic is made from the sap of certain trees that grow in the Sudan. Gum

Summary Of Dead Girls Don t Write Letters `` By Gail Giles
Kreena Patel Book Talk
For the mystery book talk, I read, Dead Girls Don t Write Letters by Gail Giles.
The setting takes place in present day Texas throughout the whole novel. The main characters were
Sunny Reynolds (14) who was the main detective of the novel, and the younger sister of the dead
sister, who died in a fire in New York, but was deeply loved by everyone, Deborah Hallard a girl who
looked and pretended to be Jasmine Reynolds (the girl who died), but knew everything about her and
her family, and Dan and Lily Reynolds the parents of Sunny and Jasmine. Dan had a drinking
problem, and Lily was depressed because of her beloved daughter who was dead, Jasmine. The
mystery of the story was when a letter arrived to Sunny s house from her dead sister, two months after
her sister passed away. It said that Jasmine was going to come home because she ran away even
though she was reported dead. When Jazz arrived at her family s doorstep, everyone besides Lily
knew that it wasn t the real Jasmine. They weren t sure who she was, why she was at their home
pretending to be someone who she wasn t, and how she knew everything about the Reynold s family
and their secrets. The detective in the novel was Sunny Reynolds. She was always trying to find clues
about the girl pretending to be her sister, calling people to get as much information as possible, and
would even look through the girl s bags even if that risked her getting caught because unlike some
people, she had nothing

Mr Snape s Roof By Dorothy Wordsworth
Ordinarily looking at a person s private journal is inconsiderate, but hypothetically what if it was the
only thing left of you. Is it acceptable to read someone s actions from day to day and their inner most
thoughts, if you are trying to piece together who they are? Whether the person would want you to read
their journal or not it is a good way to get to know a person, especially when they can not tell you
about them themselves. This is the case with William Wordsworth s sister, Dorothy Wordsworth who
wrote in her journal and it is a testimony to not only her life but to the lives of the people around her.
You can look at her everyday activities and know exactly what kind of person she is. Most of her
journal is the trivial day to day tasks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we have all probably found out, talking about someone behind their back never works for the
better. Her friend Beatrix talks about a man who lives in another town who writes tour guide books as
a living. Her brother would stop writing poetry and start to write something useful like this so that
they can get more money. As to not squander his time, Dorothy thinks he should change what he is
writing so they could sell a book and actually live off of his hard work. if only William would turn his
gills to something similar, we could both perhaps find pleasure. But no, he will not listen. He has ears
only for his Muse. Wishing that her brother would not be as lazy as she thinks he is would not be a big
problem if she took the issue to him. Dorothy instead brings her problems to a friend and they talk
about him and other men. This behavior could lead them to trouble if they do not get a hold of their
need for hurtful gossip. Moreover, William probably takes pride in his work and they are too quick to
say it is useless. That poetry will put him in the history books. Their need for gossip overrides the fact
that her brother has feelings and would not appreciate the slander against his

The Benefits of Reducing the Intake of Fast Food
Fast food has turned into a diet to millions of people across the world. This is because of the fact that
the food is readily available and provided in many business premises along the streets. As one of those
individuals who have been addicted to fast food consumption, I have realized the need to change the
behavior for the better. There are various benefits of reducing the intake of fast food, strategies and
challenges of changing my behavior which will be analyzed. There are three benefits I will enjoy by
reducing the fast food consumption. First, the change of the behavior will assist in improving my
immunity. This is because of the fact that keeping a healthy and balanced diet is an essential aspect
when it comes to strengthening the immunity. The second benefit of changing the behavior is that it
reduces the chances of suffering from health problems such as obesity. Consumption of fast food for a
long period of time exposes me to the risk of obesity. The third benefit of changing the behavior is that
it will lead to my being in good spirits. Fast food is known as one of contributing factors of the
number of depressed young people. This is due to the fact that fast food leads into the alteration of
hormonal system which is responsible of controlling mood and behavior swing. Eventually, it may
lead me to suffer from high blood pressure. By getting rid of the bad habit, I am likely to benefit from
reduced chances of suffering from such health issues. Moreover, there

Social Anxiety Disorders
The diagnosis of social phobia requires the symptoms to be consistent and persistent , as well as
causing significant distress which damage social, occupational, or other important areas of life
functioning (Irena, 2015, p.). Unlike shyness, where most people occasionally experience in their
lives, social phobia is much more disruptive and pathological (Jefferson, 2001). For people with social
phobia, they could even feel the pain before an event that they know would involve evaluation
actually happen (NIMH, 2013; Irena, 2015, p.).
People with social phobia are often aware of their unreasonable fear, but they can t seem to overcome

In a study examining the cultural aspects in social phobia, Hoffmann et al. (200x) concluded that an

Course Number
November 13, 2014
Faculty Name
Executive Summary
Introduction
In the paper, the researcher learned about the poor integration system that was created by the
consulted. In order to improve the system there were certain things that had to be enhanced such as the
security within four main department of the campus, so it was necessary to find the best way to reduce
the WAN, include a VLAN structure and reduce broadcast traffic.
Methodology
An IP addressing table that includes routes for Denver and Houston was created to update the router
and link addresses. A multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) will be used to enhance the security and
the label within so that it can make the decision regarding the best option to transfer data from
downstream to upstream. A public client network citizenship will also be linked with the WAN reduce
unwanted network traffic. A VLAN structure will also be implemented to enhance the security.
Results
After the implementation the new structure. The routing protocol for the router can speech a language
that they can understand to transfer data across links. The public client network citizenship (GPO) will
reduce redundant links. The new IP addresses gives the computer the ability to communicate
anywhere in remote location.
Implications
There are enough IP addresses available for growth. A min. of 20% growth is available with the
network. If they need more IP address they will have to go

Atheism And Agnosticism
Atheism and Agnosticism: Ignorance OverDivine Being
John Carlo N. Saberdo
I. Background One of the most common criticisms of atheism is that life can have no meaning without
God belief. I ve always found this argument puzzling, because even if true, it does absolutely nothing
to prove the existence of God. What the believer is saying is that God belief gives him or her the
feeling that life has meaning. Well, that s great, but your feelings don t prove anything. There are
indicators, however, that atheism is growing and is more widespread than the media and in fact, there
are more than half of the world s population, and more than 90% of the world s scientists, do not
believe in a personal God.
In this paper, I will argue that this argument

Direct applicability is the capacity of E.U. law to immediately form part of national law of Member
States without a need for any further implementation .
Directives do not automatically form a part of English law, and therefore Rochelle needs to rely on the
doctrine of direct effect if she is to succeed with this Directive. Direct effect applies in principle, to all
binding EU law. Broadly the doctrine is provisions of binding EU law which are sufficiently clear,
precise, and unconditional to be justiciable can be invoked and relied on by individuals, before
national courts , however such definitions are disputed. (Page 180 181 EU LAW text cases and

Van Gend Loos established the doctrine of direct effect; this case involved two conflicting laws
between a Dutch customs law (national law) and Article 30 of the TFEU. The Government argued that
Article 30 conferred rights and obligations between states, and were not enforceable at the suit of
individuals i.e. the company Van Gend en Loos. In addition it was claimed that the treaty provided
enforcement procedures under Articles 258 and 259 of the TFEU. In Advocate General Romer s
opinion, Art.30 TFEU was too complex to be enforced by national courts .
Notwithstanding this, the article was held directly effective by the Court of Justice, it was stated that
EU law imposes obligations upon individuals, but also confers on them legal rights . The courts saw

Climate Change, Human Security and Violent Conflict Essay
Climate change is becoming a focal point for security and conflict research. Research suggests that
violent conflict is affected by climate change and this could become increasingly worse in the future.
Barnett, J., Adger, W. (2007) suggest that climate change undermines human security by reducing the
access to natural resources that sustain people s way of life. Climate change also has the capacity to
undermine states as well by cutting off the states ability to provide opportunities and services that help
maintain life and which help to maintain and build peace in daily life. With access to natural resources

Third, it explains that climate change may weaken states ability to provide resources and services to
the people. And finally, it outlines further research that could be conducted on climate change human
security (or the lack of) and violent conflict. It is evident that the climate of the world is changing and
has been since the creation of the earth but over that past decade the change had begun to occur more
rapidly. With this occurrence of climate change is the occurrence of violent conflict among humans. In
most parts of the world the climate change impacts social ecological systems such as temperature, sea
level, and annual precipitation. Other occurrence have just increased in intensity and frequency such
as floods, droughts, storms, cyclones, fires, heat waves, epidemics and hurricanes. Yet these
environmental changes do not undermine human security but they do assist in the use up of the natural
resources that humans need to maintain the normal daily life and most importantly survive. Violence
happens for a number of reasons some to include leaders are able to mobilize groups to do certain
things that cause violence, the loot ability of natural resources and other products and because some
individuals choose to be violent. It is very important to note that climate change will not make
violence nor increase the risk of violence in isolation, it also requires other important social factors.

Native American Stereotypes
Some of the stereotype of The Native Americans in the film were, Pawnee people being savages and
Lakota people being the more calm and family people. I understand why the filmmakers showed both
sides of the Native Americans, the good and the bad. Which they also did the same with the white
people. The Pawnee people acted like savages in the film, they killed with no remorse and took what
they wanted from the white people and Lakota people. The most positive Native American character
in the film was Kicking Bird. Since he was the holy man of the Lakota people he was very calm and
collected. He did researched and did a lot of thinking before deciding what his people should do.

Lisa Sherman Case Analysis Essay

October 2010

orientation .Then one fated day, there was a diversification workshop with her fellow managers. The
outcome of this was that her coworkers were bigoted towards homosexuality. Lisa Sherman had a
tough decision to make, whether to stay or to leave. The following analysis shows a suggested
solution.

She felt that if she were to tell anyone it would affect her career, which allegedly proved to be a
correct assumption, from the comments that her co workers made. One of the most homophobic
individuals turned out to be one of Lisa s mentors. In essence, the people Lisa had been closest to
turned out to be bigoted individuals.
When deciding what to do, Lisa needs to be sure it is in the best interest of her needs. Since she has
been with the same company for 15 years, and quickly worked her way up, she probably has a myriad
of opportunities waiting for her. She can inform the CEO Ray Smith of her sexual orientation, as he
wants the company to become more progressive and would (allegedly) not be bothered by her
sexuality. However, the rest of her coworkers still feel that Gay people are immoral, disgusting people.
Even if the CEO did not mind her sexuality, her coworkers would still see her in a different light.
I feel the best decision that Lisa can make is to look for different work, with a more open, progressive
company, then resign from Verizon. This decision would allow her time to get her finances in order.
However, if she had a large savings, then the best decision would be to resign immediately, because
being around such bigoted individuals would cause her undue stress, and her performance may be
affected.
If Lisa Sherman chooses to resign, since the CEO Ray

Amazing Grace
Through the Parable of the Return of the Prodigal Son we see that the father in the story is God and
we are the son longing for forgiveness. You can compare Amazing Grace to the parable of The
Prodigal Son by comparing the verses to the son being found and seeing the grace of God. The story
of the Prodigal Son and the song Amazing Grace are both about recieving the grace of God and asking
for forgiveness. Grace is the free and unmerited gift of God s love, forgiveness, mercy, and healing to
any and all who turn to Him in faith in the name of Jesus. This concept of grace is demonstrated in
Jesus parable of The Lost Son and Newton s hymn, Amazing Grace . God gives us endless mercy and

Cardiology The human heart has a special characteristic, it has its own electrical impulse, which
allows it to beat normally outside of the human body as long as it has sufficient oxygen levels. The

Another instance where Candide drew conclusions about people from appearance alone, is his

The A 380 is becoming more popular as airlines look for ways to move the maximum amount of
passengers for the least money (Stafford, 2006). The A380 is made in passenger or freight versions.
The A380 800 is the largest passenger plane in the world. When passenger areas are divided into three
classes, the A380 can seat 550 passengers. When the entire plane is designated economy class, it can
seat 853 people. There is 50% more cabin floor space than the Boeing 747 because the A380s upper
deck goes the entire length of the fuselage ( Airbus a380 airfield, 2011). In 2010 there were already

According to FAA Order 5300, airports may submit Modifications of Standard (MOS) requests for
review of non standard compliance items as long as safety is not compromised . Making modification
would be much less expensive and less time consuming for the airports that are able to do them. Some
design standards to allow for safe use of the A380 include blast pad dimensions to be 250 x 400 feet (
Airbus a380 airfield, 2011).
Many smaller airports will not be able to fit the larger airbus and the A380 will be limited to only the
large, hub airports better able to accommodate them. Smaller airports may have to be used as feeder
airports that will connect passengers to the large airports and the A380s. This could be a problem of
increased congestion with the existing slot system if more connecting flights are needed and there are
no more gates available or slot time (Ruehle, Goetsch, Koch, 2006).
At this time intercontinental routes use the hub and spoke system. This method allows airlines to
bundle an increased number of passengers on the flights. The draw back is that it also leads to a more
complex feeder flight schedule. Those airports with the facilities and room to support the airbuses
would then become hubs for those aircraft flights. To be profitable and fill enough seats, airports with
the most potential passengers would need to be paired for flights. Any delay or cancellation would

William Wordsworth s The World Is Too Much With Us
Completely unaware? Do you notice the things that surrounds us, and the life that lives within us?
Care to much or not at all?, want it all? Or have you no love within your heart. Do you dream? Or
create? Do you see the nature all around us? Those were many of the thoughts and questions that ran
through my head when reading the poem The World Is Too Much With Us , by William Wordsworth.
Throughout the story there were three messages that stood out the most in Wordsworth s poem, which
involve love, the power to not care and be greedy, and creation within the mind.
In the poem the writing can be taken and understood many different ways, but one thing that stood out
to me was the message of love. Now not necessarily love for one another but love for nature was
expressed throughout the poem through various ways. We have given our hearts away, a Sordid boon!
(Wordsworth, Line, 5). What William was trying to explain in just that line was we would give our
hearts away to nature at any point, because it s the love for the way that nature is and all its beauty and
peace. It can so easily capture our hearts to love nature and all it has to offer. Furthermore,
Wordsworth, talks a lot and describes a lot about what nature does. For instance. He talks about how
the sea is at night time, how the wind has a sort of howl to it, and that also really shows the love for
nature that is expressed in this poem. And even the love that the narrator has for nature and its beauty.

Old Oratorio New Contemporary Christian Music
Old Oratorio New Contemporary Christian Music
Music has always been very important to religion, and the music has always been changing. At the
beginning, the music told a story of a biblical event. The current day music tells a story about life and
how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older
religion music. The current type of religion music is called Contemporary Christian music. There is a
lot of different types between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differs a lot; however, they
both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ, but that is about all they have in commons. Oratorio music
was very sacred music in its time. It was very sacred; however, it was not played during church. They
were played more for concerts. Oratorio had three different parts that was in every piece. Those three
parts would consist of a choir, soloist, and orchestra. Every piece comes from a biblical story. The
most famous composer from the Baroque ere, the era that oratorio was played, was George Frideric
Handel. A few of his most famous pieces came from the subjects, Israel in Egypt, Jephtha, Judas, Saul,
and Messiah (Baily 169). Contemporary Christian music is the complete opposite of Oratorio music.
Contemporary music consist of stories about having a relationship with Jesus Christ, biblical
inerrancy, and spreading Gods holy word. They take the form of hard rock, dance pop, and hip hop
(Lindenbaum 70). Femi Adedeji wrote a paper

The Price Elasticity Of Demand
Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of consumers to
changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199). Mathematically, the price
elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the
percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the absolute value of the percentage
change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in price, which means the absolute value
of the elasticity would be greater than one. If the absolute value of the price elasticity of demand is
less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less sensitive to the price change. There are various
factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in the following sections these factors will be
applied to the demand of desktop computers.
The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the
availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality substitutes
are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the price of desktop
computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded would most likely
decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out and purchase laptop
computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop computer. Likewise, if the
price of desktop computer

  • 2. SalingerSymbolism InCatcher In The Rye Catcher EBR Salinger used erasing profanity and museums to convey his theme that everyone experiences a loss of innocence at some point in their life as it is unavoidable. Salinger uses the symbol of erasing profanity to symbolize an attempt by Holden to protect the school children s innocence. While Holden is waiting at the school to deliver his note to Phoebe he notices that someone wrote fuck you on the wall. Holden tries to save the kids from seeing these bad words as he erases it off of the wall. However what he doesn t realize is who wrote the explicit words. Holden assumes it was some homeless bum because he doesn t realise that the kids in the school know what these words mean. He just thinks that by erasing the words he save the kids innocence, like he is the Catcher in the Rye . Somebody d written Fuck you on the wall. It drove me damn near crazy. I thought how Phoebe and all the other little kids would see it, and how they d wonder what the hell it meant. (Pg, 221) I figured it was some pervert bum that d sneaked in the school late at night. (pg,221) Holden still has this idea in his mind that all kids are innocent and that he can help them stay away from the adult world forever hence being innocent forever. He just assumes that it was some bum off the street, but that s absurd as why would a random person just think that writing those words on the wall would be funny. Holden still ... • 3. The Purpose Of The Supernatural In Literary Works The purpose of the supernatural in Literary Works The purpose of the supernatural in literature can vary in function from story to story. The supernatural can be used to create a certain mood in writing or to enhance the dramatic effect of a story. The supernatural can also be used as the reasoning behind a story and act as the theme it centers on, creating a paranormal effect and a mystical experience for the reader. In human nature there exists a morbid desire to explore the darker side of life. As human beings we make every effort to deny our curiosity in the things that frighten us, but deep down we secretly thrive on that cool rush of fear. Despite our efforts to maintain a balance of our emotions, we are a society of people who slow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story again reinforces the severity of defying the supernatural, and the strong belief the puritans held in the actuality of a figurative God and Devil. This story repercussions the idea that there is nowhere to hide from these supernatural powers. Poe uses the supernatural to create a fear and set a mood in his stories. They are dark and always seem to have a surprise lurking around each turn. He reinforces the fear of an overpowering doom that cannot be escaped. In the story, The Telltale Heart, the imagery of a heart beating beneath the floorboards is riveting. You feel that the heart is really beating; it s not just the imagination of a madman. The narration is done totally in the first person and never gives the sex of the person. The narrator is described as the caretaker of an old man. This technique allows the reader to identify with the narrator/murderer and assume the caretaker is the same sex as the reader. When women read the Telltale Heart most feel the narrator is a woman, as most caretakers are women. When a man reads this story he believes that the narrator is a man, for most murderers are men. Poe puts good against evil through sharp contradictions in the story. The old man s deformed eye represents evil, yet the narrator describes him as never wronging her or insulting her. The narrator insists she is not crazy, but then commits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rich cultural diversity that the Indian Americans and African Americans brought into America can be identified through their cultures and how they interact and relate to one another. Through this paper, I will discuss the elements of each culture, compare and contrast the differences and similarities and how the two may interact with the dominant group as minority groups. African Americans Most of the African Americans in the United States have their roots deeply embedded in Africa. The Africans were held captive in the US from 1555 to 1865 when the slave trade was rampant (Tishkoff, et al., 2009). The African Americans had numerous titles such as Negroes and Colored, but the terms are no longer accepted in English and currently people of the ethnic group are referred to as African Americans or Blacks. The Blacks originated from the numerous ethnic groups from mainly the Central and Western Africa. Another minority group originated from eastern and south eastern Africa. • 5. `` Confessions Of A Workaholic `` By Wayne Oates One in four workers can be classified as a workaholic nevertheless; it is still vastly underestimated in the damages it can cause (Griffiths, 2011). Workaholism has been coined as the respectable addiction and the hard working man s disease; however, workaholism is a deadly disease that affects the workaholic, their family, friends, and even coworkers. The Japanese term for workaholism is karoshi and is estimated to kill over 1,000 deaths a year (Williams, 2012). The definition of a workaholic remains vague and unconstructive; however, the symptoms and manifestations can be quite clear. Merriam Webster defines workaholic as a person who chooses to work a lot: a person who is always working, thinking about work, etc. In 1971, Wayne E. Oates coined the term Workaholic in his novel, Confessions of a Workaholic. Wayne Oates was an American psychologist and religious educator. Oates asserts that working can become an addiction just as alcohol (Oates, 1971). A major contributor to the problem is the belief that hard work leads to greater wealth (Williams, 2012). Workaholism is considered by many to be a respectable addiction and a positive thing. These people lack understanding into the true nature and dangers of this addiction. Numerous myths surround workaholism including: workaholics are always working; no one ever died of hard work; Workaholism only adversely affects the workaholic (Fassel, 1990). It is imperative that a distinction be made between workaholism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Evolution Of The Music Industry Essay The evolution of the music industry follows the familiar pattern of digitization. Innovation began with the introduction of the vinyl record, transitioned from the cassette tape to the compact disc and landed us in an era of digital downloads. The emergence of music streaming services like Spotify has progressed the industry even further, giving consumers the ability to access music on demand using download free online platforms. Spotify faces criticism from artists as a result of the overlap of creativity and commerce. They argue that business activities corrupt creativity, transforming it into a tool for profitability rather than an outlet for expression. Artists insist that Spotify deters album sales, favors established artists and fails to support them financially. However, Spotify was created for consumers. It delivers an accessible alternative to purchasing and downloading music. The interplay between creativity and commerce is changing the nature of the music industry. Spotify has adapted to this change, providing a platform that supports both artists and consumers. Through analysis of the market, artist s revenue, record labels and consumers, I will argue that artists should accept the evolution of the industry and support Spotify. Spotify is a product of change. Consumers today are not the same as they were fifty years ago. Businesses like Spotify know this and use it to their advantage. • 9. Factors Affecting Population Growth According to the book, there are three main factors that influence population growth. The first factor the book addresses is childhood mortality. Childhood mortality refers to the amount of children who die before age five. According to a website called ourworldindata.com, the child mortality rate in 2015 was around 4.3 percent. Childhood mortality can impact population growth because if the mortality rate is high, the amount of childhood deaths would cause less population growth. A decrease in childhood mortality could cause families to have smaller families since there is a higher likelihood of their children surviving. Education is the second factor that impacts population growth. According to the book, people who are educated tend to wait to have children or get married due to their occupation or due to them working towards their occupation. This can impact population growth by reducing the number of children a women has due to her getting married older, having children when she is older, and dedicating time to work and children. Women who live in uneducated areas tend to marry and have children around their teens, increases the population yet also increasing poverty and lack of hygiene. The third and last factor is the lack of access to contraceptives. According to the book, contraceptives tend to decrease the amount of children a women has, allows more women to have children who survive the birthing process, and reduces the amount of women who die in childbirth. The narrator, Marlow, tells the majority of the story and all about his adventures while traveling to the Congo River. There are three benefits I will enjoy by reducing the fast food consumption. First, the change of the behavior will assist in improving my immunity. This is because of the fact that keeping a healthy and balanced diet is an essential aspect when it comes to strengthening the immunity. The second benefit of changing the behavior is that it reduces the chances of suffering from health problems such as obesity. Consumption of fast food for a long period of time exposes me to the risk of obesity. The third benefit of changing the behavior is that it will lead to my being in good spirits. Fast food is known as one of contributing factors of the number of depressed young people. This is due to the fact that fast food leads into the alteration of hormonal system which is responsible of controlling mood and behavior swing. Eventually, it may lead me to suffer from high blood pressure. By getting rid of the bad habit, I am likely to benefit from reduced chances of suffering from such health issues. Moreover, there ... Background One of the most common criticisms of atheism is that life can have no meaning without God belief. I ve always found this argument puzzling, because even if true, it does absolutely nothing to prove the existence of God. What the believer is saying is that God belief gives him or her the feeling that life has meaning. Well, that s great, but your feelings don t prove anything. There are indicators, however, that atheism is growing and is more widespread than the media and in fact, there are more than half of the world s population, and more than 90% of the world s scientists, do not believe in a personal God. According to FAA Order 5300, airports may submit Modifications of Standard (MOS) requests for review of non standard compliance items as long as safety is not compromised . Making modification would be much less expensive and less time consuming for the airports that are able to do them. Some design standards to allow for safe use of the A380 include blast pad dimensions to be 250 x 400 feet ( Airbus a380 airfield, 2011). Many smaller airports will not be able to fit the larger airbus and the A380 will be limited to only the large, hub airports better able to accommodate them. Smaller airports may have to be used as feeder airports that will connect passengers to the large airports and the A380s. This could be a problem of increased congestion with the existing slot system if more connecting flights are needed and there are no more gates available or slot time (Ruehle, Goetsch, Koch, 2006). At this time intercontinental routes use the hub and spoke system. This method allows airlines to bundle an increased number of passengers on the flights. The draw back is that it also leads to a more complex feeder flight schedule. Those airports with the facilities and room to support the airbuses would then become hubs for those aircraft flights. • 37. William Wordsworth s The World Is Too Much With Us Completely unaware? Do you notice the things that surrounds us, and the life that lives within us? Care to much or not at all?, want it all? Or have you no love within your heart. Do you dream? Or create? Do you see the nature all around us? Those were many of the thoughts and questions that ran through my head when reading the poem The World Is Too Much With Us , by William Wordsworth. Throughout the story there were three messages that stood out the most in Wordsworth s poem, which involve love, the power to not care and be greedy, and creation within the mind. In the poem the writing can be taken and understood many different ways, but one thing that stood out to me was the message of love. Now not necessarily love for one another but love for nature was expressed throughout the poem through various ways. We have given our hearts away, a Sordid boon! (Wordsworth, Line, 5). What William was trying to explain in just that line was we would give our hearts away to nature at any point, because it s the love for the way that nature is and all its beauty and peace. It can so easily capture our hearts to love nature and all it has to offer. Furthermore, Wordsworth, talks a lot and describes a lot about what nature does. For instance. He talks about how the sea is at night time, how the wind has a sort of howl to it, and that also really shows the love for nature that is expressed in this poem. And even the love that the narrator has for nature and its beauty. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oratorio is one example of older religion music. The current type of religion music is called Contemporary Christian music. There is a lot of different types between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differs a lot; however, they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ, but that is about all they have in commons. Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. It was very sacred; however, it was not played during church. They were played more for concerts. Oratorio had three different parts that was in every piece. Those three parts would consist of a choir, soloist, and orchestra. Every piece comes from a biblical story. The most famous composer from the Baroque ere, the era that oratorio was played, was George Frideric Handel. A few of his most famous pieces came from the subjects, Israel in Egypt, Jephtha, Judas, Saul, and Messiah (Baily 169). Contemporary Christian music is the complete opposite of Oratorio music. • 39. The Price Elasticity Of Demand Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of consumers to changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199). Mathematically, the price elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the absolute value of the percentage change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in price, which means the absolute value of the elasticity would be greater than one. If the absolute value of the price elasticity of demand is less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less sensitive to the price change. There are various factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in the following sections these factors will be applied to the demand of desktop computers. The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality substitutes are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the price of desktop computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded would most likely decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out and purchase laptop computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop computer. Likewise, if the price of desktop computer ...
