Think before choosing a
Research Topic
DR. QAISAR ABBAS
What is a Research Topic?
 A research topic is known as an issue/problem or subject that a
researcher is interested in when he is going to conduct a
research.
 A perfect and well-defined research topic is the starting point
of each and every successful research thesis or project.
 Selecting a research topic is a continue process in which
researcher explore, define, and refine his or her ideas.
What is a Research Topic?
 The ability to prepare or develop a perfect research topic is an
essential skill.
 A Teacher sometimes assign you a suitable topic, but mostly
teachers require you to develop/select your own topic of
interest.
 Before developing a topic, consider the following:-
Think before choosing a research topic
1. Is your topic interesting?. It will hold your interest throughout
the entire research process.
2. Is your topic researchable?. It can be investigated through the
collection and analysis of data and is not stated as an effort to
determine what should be done.
3. Is your topic significant?. It contributes in some way to the
improvement or understanding of educational theory or
practice.
Think before choosing a research topic
5. Is your topic ethical?. It does not involve practices or strategies
that may embarrass or harm participants.
6. Is your topic manageable?. It fits your level of skill, available
resources, and time restrictions.
Some Examples of Research Topics
 Analysis of digital literacy skills of pre-service teachers and their attitude
towards digital literacy
 Analysis of digital literacy skills of secondary teachers and its impact on
their job performance
 Effect of digital literacy on the academic performance of students at
College level
 Analysis of quality of ICT model developed by institutions/ organizations
for their use in teacher training programs
 Investigation of current training models and professionalization of

education institutions
 A study of availability of computer, interactive video and other modern
gadgets for teacher education
 An investigation of the attitudes of student teachers towards teaching
profession
 Comparative study of attitudes towards teaching profession of

 Relationship between research on teaching, educational innovations and
teaching practices
 Comparative study of effectiveness of teachers produced by face to face
and by distance method
 Developing strategies for open book examinations in teacher education
courses
