Norwalk Transit District And Wheels Hub
Many in the Norwalk Community were shocked to hear about Norwalk transit districts plans for the
next year.
In the transit plans for next year the NCC shuttle is going to be permanently shut down along with
other buses starting January 1st 2017. This will affect many who go to Norwalk Community College
from the train station.
The Norwalk hour covered the story before the majority of the campus found out. The article focused
solely on the changes the shutdown of just the NCC shuttle will have on some students like Jesse
Lawrence and faculty as well.

The public hearings took place October 17 and 18 same times as the informational meetings. This lead
to some confusion.
NCC Students who showed up to the informational meetings left shortly after being told that in these
meetings the public is not allowed to voice their opinions since it was not a public hearing. There was
however a testimony form that could be filled out telling the Transit how the changes will affect you
which was not advertised.
The informational meeting was set up so that there were four tables that people can sit at while they
wait for one of the board members or Morton to talk to them about the changes they wanted to make
to the bus schedules.
The board gave out printed Power Points at this meeting explaining every change they are trying to
make and a couple other important documents. There were three bus drivers there but none that are
going to be impacted heavily by the changes being made.
Morton is responsible for the transit company as a whole and she explained that the transit is funded
by the state and federal transit system. Morton talked to each person that stayed at the informational
meeting to explain the reason behind her plan.

The Office of Warren G. Harding
In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall,
Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were,
and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the
decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden,
reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his
campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that
appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was
successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy
and revival, by lowing income tax for the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington
Naval Conference.
Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the Bureau
of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it eventually
helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This Bureau also
allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy very easily. It
saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited government
spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced

The Pros And Cons Of Homeless Women
The Homeless Period On average, women spend about $3,360 on essential feminine hygiene products
throughout their entire lives, but what happens when a woman cannot even afford her monthly
menstrual expenses? Every month homeless women are put on a crisis situation recurring to extreme
methods to cope with their periods. These women want to feel clean; unfortunately, they do not have
the means to do so because pads and tampons are expensive. In fact, they are taxed as luxury items in
more than thirty states. As of today, there is not a clear policy as to where homeless women can find
free feminine hygiene products when they need them. This is more paupers problem, it is a health,
hygiene, and dignity issue. The government needs to make a legislation that allows homeless women
to get free pads and tampons The means by which homeless women cope with their periods are
unbelievable. In their own voice periods brings inconvenience to the level of misery (Shay). When
these women cannot afford to buy feminine hygiene products, they use whatever they can to keep
themselves clean. Some of the common substitutes of pads and tampons are toilet paper, paper towels,
plastic bags, towels, cotton balls, makeup pads, socks, and [old clothes] (How do Homeless Women
Cope with Their Periods). On bad days, some women even have to reuse the same rag multiple times
by washing it, drying it, and putting it back in. Feminine hygiene products are expensive and

How Did Winston Churchill Shaped Europe
Everything has a history, and Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill played one of the biggest in
Europe s. Born November 30, 1874 in Oxfordshire, England he experienced a tough childhood, but no
doubt did he prosper to do great things for his country. At a time of chaos during World War II,
Winston Churchill brought strategic ideas and courage to defeat one of Europe s greatest, yet worst
leaders, Adolf Hitler. Churchill was a british statesman, army officer, writer, and served as Prime
Minister for the United Kingdom from 1940 1945 and then again from 1951 1955. Winston Churchill

Churchill did not approve of this and had even proposed that Britain preempt German aggression by
unilaterally occupying Norwegian iron mines and sea ports. Neville did not listen and Germany
invaded and occupied Norway. During May of that year Parliament had a debate concerning Neville
Chamberlain and his capabilities since the Norway crisis. The people of the United Kingdom were
becoming scared, Germany was invading and taking over territory after territory in Europe. Something
had to be done or they would be next just like everyone else. After the debate on what action to take
concerning Chamberlain, King George VI appointed Sir Winston Churchill as Prime Minister and
minister of defense. People were whispering and talking of Winston being back. In ways it seemed to
have brought the people hope for their country s future. At first Churchill did not see the threat of
Adolf Hitler in the 1930 s, but around 1938 when Germany began seizing control of their neighbors he
saw Hitler for who he really was. With the people of Great Britain being concerned and scared for
their country, Churchill knew that they would need to know it would not be

The Impact Of The Opium War
The Opium War was a war between the United Kingdom and Imperial China. Smoking opium for the
stimulating impacts is not noted in China until the eighteenth century, but rather likely started at some
point before. The Chinese Imperial Government in the mid eighteenth century turned out to be
progressively concerned with the spreading dependence on opium and its crippling impact. The
Imperial Government disallowed the offer of opium blended with tobacco and banned opium smoking
houses (1729). The Government classed offering opium for smoking was classed with burglary and
affectation to kill, and rebuffed with expulsion or passing. The Government found, be that as it may,
extremely hard to stop the exchange, particularly as the British consistently ... Show more content on

Prior to the Opium wars China had begun to build up a urban business economy, however once the
wars started, China was presented rashly to western commercial enterprises. China couldn t contend
and got to be subject to remote products and exchange. While the wars did give China a urban
business sector economy, they likewise about devastated the economy as of now set up. After the wars
China understood that the nation couldn t keep on being so independent. Scholarly people understood
that they must attempt to comprehend western society, particularly if they somehow managed to beat
the West. Lin Zexu, Xu Ji yu, and Wei Yuan read deciphered material from the West and distributed
books on western nations and society. They found out about western political thoughts, social
structures, and economies. Surprisingly, China set up an outside service. They attempted to modernize
China s armed force and set up processing plants. Then again, the greater part of the business
undertakings were keep running by medieval administrators, who did not completely comprehend
private enterprise and the business economy. They attempted to hoard the business sector, which

Candian Health Care
Canadian health care differs quite drastically from any other country. To begin with Canada s health
care system is built upon the Canada Health Act. The Canada Health Act is federal legislation that puts
in place conditions by which individual provinces and territories in Canada may receive funding and
get health care services.(Canadian Health Care, 2004) This act was put into place in order to obtain the
primary objectives of the Canadian health care policy which is to protect, promote and restore
physical and mental well being of residents of Canada and to facilitate reasonable access to health
services without financial or other barriers.(Health Canada, 2010) There are five key features that

(Long Term Care Canada, 2011) All in All for this form of service it would be beneficial for this
individual to either have private insurance or for the family to care for them. Palliative or End of life
care is an issue faced in every country, and every country handles this situation differently. Canada has
a rather large support for Palliative care. This form of care can take place in several different settings
such as, hospitals, long term care facilities, home or hospice. The care can be provided by nurses,
physicians, social workers, spiritual advisors, trained volunteers, family and loved ones. (Health
Canada, 2010) Once again this form of care is not required under the Canada Health Act, it is up to the
province/territory to determined coverage. Certain provinces/territories do include this service in their
provincial health plans while others include it in provincial home care budgets or other health service
budgets. While it may be covered, many families still carry a burden of about 25% for caring for their
family members at home or at any facility other than a hospital (Fact Sheet: Hospice Care, 2012, p. 5).
The association that provides the assistance to every Canadian resident is Canadian Hospice Palliative
Care Association. Health care procedures are completed based on the necessity of the procedure.
Acute hospital care is covered according to the Canada Health Act. These services may include,

Compare Beowulf And Forrest Gump
Nowadays many people believe that Beowulf and Forrest Gump are similar because they both
considered as heroes of the time in which they lived. First of all, Beowulf considered as a hero
because he is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is brave, and at the
same time, a decent hero. There is no reason to doubt his merits. Forrest Gump is also considered as a
hero because he thinks about faith, love, honesty, patriotism. He is a kind person who remained
faithful to his family, friends, and his country. He is a man who always carries God in his soul, and
lives according to the laws of Christian love to God and to the nearest ones. Both Beowulf and Forrest
Gump do things that other people consider impossible. Beowulf and Forrest Gump can be compared
as heroes representing their time period and cultures. Beowulf is a medieval heroic epic. The poem
originated on the basis of ancient traditions related to pagan times. The poem represent an early
example of precisely moral heroism, but not the one that is caused by the desire for fame and power.
The main character of the poem, Beowulf, is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of
justice. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others.
His courage is shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane s enemies. By being self
assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the
time Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, I ve never known fear,
as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon
hiding in his tower dares to face me. (ll. 2511 2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the
dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying,
When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which
of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this
monster. (ll. 2525 2534) In his actions, Beowulf s bravery is clearly shown throughout the poem. As
king, Beowulf is the

Kabuki Greek Culture
In 1603, the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate allowed Japan to stay at peace until 1868
(Theatre histories 203). The return of peace allowed for a new culture to emerge that was the opposite
of samurai elegance and control; there was a new form of entertainment called Kabuki. These types of
performers reversed gender roles and mocked samurai rulers, which caused the samurai, traders and
workers in wealthy towns to disapprove of these performers. Even though they were annoyed at these
performances, it confirmed what they took to be their innate superiority to the rowdy culture of the
cities (203). The success of these performances can be explained by the cultural hierarchy theory. The
cultural hierarchy is the idea that cultures create a divide to depict the ethical differences. There is a

of how they were being used to get around the government regulations in place to censor anything that
undermined the political and social hegemony of the samurai. When Kabuki first emerged, samurai,
traders and workers in wealthy towns disapproved of these types of performances, but Ieyasu and his
warriors decided to allow them because of how they believed the ban of these performances would
only lead to more trouble. The Samurai and wealthy traders and workers thought very poorly of the
low class people like merchants, so they believed it was better they were being distracted by
entertainment because that way they are not turning to serious crime. However, the Samurai rulers
thought that these performances should be regulated, so soldiers and young men of their class would

The Equal Justice Initiative has recently documented 3,959 African Americans lynched between 1877

Early Rock And Roll Research Paper
Early Rock and Roll
The year is 1960. You walk into the crowded concert, and take your seat as the sound of guitar riffs fill
your ears. The crowd cheers, as the singer struts onstage with his guitar and starts to wave a tale with
music as he sings along to his strumming guitar. This is early rock n roll. In this paper I will first tell
you about the history of early rock and roll. Then I will tell you about the famous composers of this
music style and the way it has impacted our society, in the past and present.
Rock and roll is nicknamed American music. This style of music arrived in the hearts of composers in
the mid 1950 s. It is speculated that the first early rock and roll song was Jimmy Preston s Rock this
joint . Rock and roll was combined with many styles of music to make it what we hear of today, and
some of those styles are boogie woogie, the rhythms of R B, country, gospel and blues. It mostly just
evolved from the 1950 s early rhythm and blues. The words rock and roll and concept of rock and roll
was first used by Alan Freed, a Cleveland DJ, who used it when playing the song My Baby Rocks Me
with a Steady Roll . This music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

popular dances, and it was one that most everyone used. Also, the crazy rock and roll artists had crazy
clothes that affected the way people dressed in some cases. Although, some songs impacted societies
in the wrong way, especially the songs that encouraged sex, violence, drugs, and drinking. But, not all
songs were like that, and instead offered new hopes in times of danger, including WWII. Those are

The United States And Its Impact On The Nation...
There are many challenges when it comes to rebuilding failing states and retraining their militaries.
The practice is done for the purposes of advancement of political objectives, also the attempt to
provide stability within a hostile region, saving a fragile nation from collapse, and to provide support
to oppressed groups and populations aligned with similar value structures. It is not a new policy tactic
for the United States, there have been several cases where America has played a big role in nation
reconstruction and redeveloping regional armed forces. While there have been some successful
campaigns in these efforts to fight insurgency, improve conditions in regional civil conflicts, and
stabilize areas, it has not always been effective policy. The United States has had a pretty varied
legacy with these types of interventions. From different case examples, it can be concluded that when
a liberator is rebuilding a state or a military, and is dealing with a population that is multi ethnic and
has deep religious divisions, the effort is probably more likely to fail than to succeed. Further research
also indicated that acting multilaterally produced much better results with nation
reconstruction/intervention. Usually, during intervention campaigns, short term goals were reached,
although there are often issues with achieving long term goals of peace and stability.
Some scholars have acknowledged that some attempts at saving failing states have resulted in

Romans were heavily influenced by Etruscan and Greek culture. Economics and Politics The economy
and politics of Greece were extremely complex. Most importantly Greek commercial expansion
through new trade markets around the Mediterranean with the non Greek world made it possible for
more men to purchase land and power. At the same time the concept of a polis (city) and demos
(common people) and the idea of discussion of public choices and possible outcomes with collective
concern were born in the city state. Two of the most well known to us today are Athens and Sparta, but
there were many more. The mountainous terrain as well as a deeply entrenched sense of independence
probably allowed the system to remain more of a loose confederation than a central republic, like that
of Rome. The early Roman republic probably began around the year 509 BCE and lasted for more
than 450 years before the gradual decay of its republican institutions. The Senate, which concentrated

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electronic Media
1.0 Introduction
In the 1970s and 1980s, books, newspapers, and magazines were printed on large presses by national
and multinational publishing houses. Print was a flourishing industry that had managed to overcome
any challengers, including television and the radio. Any legitimate writer, academic researcher,
scientist, or journalist was published in print. For those seeking the most up to date, respected, and
accurate information, books, periodicals, and newspapers were the chosen source. This is as it had
been for many years, and it seemed that this would be so for hundreds of years to come. Until, when in
the early 1990s, a relatively unheard of new technology called the Internet, which had begun in the
early 1960s as a government and scientific computer network, began to emerge on college campuses

while the attraction of internet and web cannot fully overtake the fascination of newspapers and

since it fulfils their needs and fits in their lifestyle. Digital media have not replaced printed media, but
they have taken over a large portion of the audience. As, technological innovations surface and are

The Importance Of Security In School Security
Identification and exploration of need
I aim to design a simple system to implement into the schools existing security as at the moment it is
very easy for people to enter and exit the school both in and out of school hours. Also with incidents
involving the school poorly set up security system makes more of a need for an update the current
one.Although it is a bad thing be so open it also does have the benefit of allowing staff and students to
leave when allowed but also allowing them to leave without permission.Having a stricter system may
slow down the process of people exiting and entering the school legitimately
Areas of investigation
Areas i believe need to be investigated
How often staff or students leave the school with permission within school hours ?
Is it a danger not having it ?
Consideration of design factors
Criteria to evaluate success
The success of this design will be assessed from the function and ergonomics of this design as it needs
to function and solve the problem of the lack of security currently, yet whilst stricting the security
make sure people that are trying to leave and enter the school properly can do so.Meaning that the
system will be deemed successful if it is aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to students and and the
community yet have a distinct look that will deter unwanted people. Also it will need to perform the
the task of keeping people inside the school safe and the schools property safe as well

Shakespeare s Sonnets Of 14 Lines
Shakespeare s sonnets of 14 lines, are written in iambic pentameter, five metrical feet to a line, each
foot having one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable, with three quatrains and rhymed
couplet scheme of abab cdcd efef gg. Often the beginning of the third quatrain marks the line in which
the mood turns, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany. Shakespeare in his unique way, wrote
Sonnet 99 with fifteen lines, Sonnet 126 has six couplets and two blank lines marked with italic
brackets, Sonnet 145 is written in iambic tetrameters, and in Sonnet 29 the normal rhyme scheme is
changed by repeating the b in quatrain one in quatrain three, where the f should be, differentiating
them from the true Shakespearean sonnet.
Shakespeare s Sonnets are in motion, with different patterns, which differ radically from his
contemporaries at the time. In fact, his sonnets have great emotional depth, complexity, and human
perception. He borrowed diction and rhythms of ordinary speech from religion, law, courtship,
diplomacy, astronomy, and everyday life, turning them into expressions of his own unique linguistic
strategy. William used his half untold story using Renaissance themes of love, time, mutability, the
conflict of body and soul, passion and reason (Sonnets of Shakespeare). Shakespeare s compositional
strategies gives his speaker depth as a character; emotionally his moods are conflicting and volatile,
his mind has many compartments of discourse, he is a

The Unjust Society Of Selfish Society In John Locke s...
The Unjust Society of Selfish Men Can a man s private interests result in an unjust society? In John
Locke s Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains that private interests lead to injustice. Private
interests lead to an individual s desire for power which is the over arching theme in men s interest.
Everything a man does he does for himself and his prosperity, instead of living in a state of equality.
Selfish desires always lead to injustice because man consequently deprives others of what he has
achieved. The violation of the rights of others is unjust, so by working for self gain, men deprive
others rights. Since men live in a state of equality, treating others with fairness maintains that state.
Unfortunately, men are naturally selfish, which means they live through their own self interest, and for
their own self gain. Moreover, through a man s self interests equality does not exist, which leads to an
unjust society. A man s self interests result in an unjust treatment of others, because as he works for his
own self prosperity he is depriving others of the same opportunities. Injustice is a result of a man s self
interests, such as wealth, property, and the desire of authority. The amount of wealth a man possesses
determines his level of power, which leads to an unjust society. The amount of money a person
possesses also determines his quantity of wealth. A man earns money, charged on the account of
labour (Ch. V, Sec. 43, pg. 27), which means the large

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Steel
CHAPTER 5 MATERIALS USED
5.1 STEEL:
ADVANTAGES OF STEEL AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Strength of steel is approximately ten times that of concrete. Due to its large strength to weight ratio,
steel structures tend to be more economical than concrete structures for tall buildings and large span
buildings and bridges.
Steel structures can be constructed very fast.
Steel structures are ductile and robust. Steel structures can be easily repaired and retrofitted to carry
higher loads.
Steel is also a very eco friendly material.
Since steel is produced in the factory under better quality control, steel structures have higher
reliability and safety.
DISATVANTAGES OF STEEL:
Steel structures when placed in exposed conditions leads to corrosion. ... Show more content on

Shrinkage of concrete
Shrinkage is the time dependent deformation, generally compressive in nature. The constituents of
concrete, size of the member and environmental conditions are the factors on which the total
shrinkage of concrete depends. However, the total shrinkage of concrete is most influenced by the
total amount of water present in the concrete at the time of mixing for a given humidity and
temperature. The cement content, however, influences the total shrinkage of concrete to a lesser
extent. The approximate value of the total shrinkage strain for design is taken as 0.0003 in the absence
of test data (cl. 6.2.4.1).
Thermal expansion of concrete: The knowledge of thermal expansion of concrete is very important as
it is prepared and remains in service at a wide range of temperature in different countries having very
hot or cold climates. Moreover, concrete will be having its effect of high temperature during fire. The
coefficient of thermal expansion depends on the nature of cement, aggregate, cement content, relative
humidity and size of the section. IS 456 stipulates (cl. 6.2.6) the values of coefficient of thermal
expansion for concrete / oC for different types of

3.0 CRITICAL APPRAISAL This chapter will explore the main themes that have been identified from
the four pieces of research selected for use in this literature review. The articles consist of two
qualitative papers, one quantitative and one mixed methods. Two papers are from the United States,
one is Australian and One is from the Republic of Ireland. No papers from the United Kingdom have
been selected due to the lack of recent research on the selected topic and inferior quality of the
available material. Moreover, the similarities within the Emergency departments are such that the
research is both generalizable and transferable and can be applied in a British hospital setting. The

Furthermore, the researches included a chaplain and a social worker in the survey, thus making the
suitability of the participants questionable, which may invalidate the results (Parahoo, 2014). The
study concluded that the majority of healthcare providers (HP S) were supportive of FWR (73%)
despite concerns regarding the behaviour of family members and concern for the emotional burden
that they associated with witnessing resuscitation. However, most participants stressed that they would
prefer a designated member of staff to accompany the witnesses during the resuscitation (Lederman
and Wacht, 2014). In contrast, a study by Bushby et al (2012), which comprised of a self completed
anonymous questionnaire of all HP s within the ED of a single Australian hospital; found that the
preponderance of staff who were opposed to FWR perceived that it would have a negative emotional
impact on the family member. Their concerns focused on the prospect of the witness developing Post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, there is a wealth of strong evidence to suggest the
contrary (Jabre et al, 2013; Hanson et al, 2005; Holzhauser et al; 2006 and Meyer et al, 2000. This
suggests that awareness of current FWR research is limited, and implies that education programmes

The Characteristics Of The Taj Mahal Of India
Parodi (2000) stated that the Mausoleum of Akbar at Sikandra close Agra was begun by Akbar and
finished by his child Jahangir in 1612 A.D. who changed the initial design of his dad. Moreover,
planned on the model of a Buddhist Vihara, it is set in the focal point of a square garden. The nook
divider on every side has a portal. The core way has four white marble minarets in the four corners
and the mausoleum has five patios, ascending from the storm cellar, one over the other, decreasing in
size as they climb. The red sandstone passage portal is the biggest and is luxuriously improved with
decorated shaded stonework. With its enchanting extents, it is independent from anyone else a work of

It is noticed from the literature and results that Taj Mahal is among the prominent Mughal buildings
that has unique interior characteristics. One of the most prominent characteristics of the Mughal
Interior Architecture and Design is the Synthesis of Indian and Persian Style. The buildings contain
the style of both the culture and tradition due to which their designs are exceptional and unique. The
construction is also made in the manner that makes the existence of these buildings inimitable. The Taj
Mahal is based on square platform and made up of white marble all over the building. This type of
structure and design is not found in any other building. Therefore, based on the case study of Taj
Mahal, it is noticed that Mughal interior architecture and design is distinctive. The complete Mughal
architecture is an excellent combination of different local and foreign characteristics, which relates it
globally with different particular types of architecture. These are also a source of motivation to some

Ellicott City Flood Case Study
In the Washington DC area, it is not at all uncommon to see flash flood warnings scroll across the
television screen, but nothing comes of it other than some rain. This past weekend, however, during
Memorial Day weekend, Ellicott City, Maryland, which sits just outside of the beltway, experienced a
horrible flash flood. The death toll still has yet to be announced, as cleanup and the search for
survivors has just begun. Two waves of intense flooding hit the town unexpectedly, and with little
warning. The town is a quaint little area with cute shops and storefronts, which sits in a valley, and the
main street cuts a swath between two higher vistas. Several storms had been forecast earlier that day,
and heavy rain was expected, but no one could have predicted such devastation, in such a short
amount of time. This is the second massive flash flood to hit this area in as many years, leaving
business owners, and residents alike, stunned and heartbroken. ... Show more content on

Examples Of Archetypes In An Old Friend
Intro to Lit
Ellie Schwartz
Block 4
Mid Term
After doing what a young girl at the edge of adulthood does like sneaking around, going to meet boys
rather than doing what she tells her parents, a young rebellious girl, Connie, who has a bad
relationship with her parents, works through the temptations and situations from a creepy guy by the
name of Arnold. Her consciousness of right and wrong outweigh all the temptations. These decisions
and temptations are shown through archetypes in Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by
Joyce Carol Oates. Oates focuses on biblical symbols, symbolic colors, and her beliefs in order to
create her story and make it have the meaning it does. Arnold Friend is a mysterious, creepy man who
takes over Connie when her parents are away. Arnold s name is connected to An Old Friend if you

The light colors usually, most the time represent good things. Dark colors most likely mean evil. In the
story most the colors go from light to dark, so things are good and turn bad. Arnold s car is an example
of bright things having a dark meaning because His car is painted a bright gold that caught the
sunlight opaquely so even though it was bright, it had a dark feel to it meaning something bad (2). His
name appears on his car in tar like black letters and both boys, Arnold and Ellie, wear metallic
sunglasses constantly as if they don t like the sunlight and are avoiding it, reflecting and keeping it out
because they are evil. Connie s dress does the same thing. In the beginning she has on a bright green
blouse and toward the end the dress darkens because she s sweating(3). This shows the tone of her
being happy hanging with friends, to bad and scared because of what Arnold is doing to

Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay
Interpretation of Muir s Horses
My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and
anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind
of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day
from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back
into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way
to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out
images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show

The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths
are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace,
this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at
line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24.
The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25,
after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the
use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to
seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the
word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of
Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the
letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo
begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad
breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger
impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more
almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and

floor the underlying message provided by the facilitators is considerably complex. The Atkins Library,

The Atkins Library gives the impression of being intellectually rewarding, as perceived on the ground

There are various ways in which this message is conveyed, namely in the form of posters. There are

The Implications Of Overwhelming Tourism In Venice
The Implications of Overwhelming Tourism in Venice Venice of old was a thriving center of
commerce, but today it has been overrun by tourists. For the Venetians this is a crisis that they are
trying to stop before their way of life is completely lost. Many residents have moved away from the
city due to effects caused by the high tourist traffic. A major part of the identity of Venice lies within
its inhabitants way of life, and the tourists threaten to take that away from them. One of the most
prominent issues of the tourism in Venice is the unsightly cruise ships that obstruct many of their
landmarks. By stopping the large scale tourism that is brought in by the cruise ships in Venice, we may
be able to potentially save Venice and stop other cities from going through a similar crisis.
In this article Horowitz talks about how tourism effects Venice, and how many of its inhabitants view
it. For many, the tourists brought by cruise ships are unwelcomed, but the revenue the tourists bring is
needed by the city. The large tourist traffic often obstructs the regular activity of Venice which is an
essential part of its identity. The enormous cruise ships, which are often big enough to eclipse
structures such as St. Mark s Square, are also another major problem that the Venetians have with the
amount of tourism their home receives. The large scale tourism has taken a drastic toll upon the city s
population as well. The population of Venice has fallen from around

Paragraph On Secondary School Teacher
Secondary School Teacher Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world,
Nelson Mandela. Secondary school teachers can essentially make or break the next generation of
America. What students are taught in school can heavily affect how their future turns out to be.
Secondary school teachers are some of the people that are heavily credited for many famous
celebrities or athletes successes for the education they gave them. NBC News anchor Brian Williams
is an example of someone who has given his secondary school teachers some form of
acknowledgement for his success. Secondary school teachers are an important part of a person s life in
their spiritual, mental, and moral growth in life, and are some of the people who help shape young
mind s to do whatever they put their minds to. A skilled worker, regardless of the job description,
remains a treasure, Madeleine M. Kunin. Over one million secondary school teachers currently hold
jobs in the United States. Secondary school teachers typically teach students in grades ranging from
seventh to high school senior, primarily in English, arithmetic, and science fields ( Secondary School
Teachers 490), and each day they teach three to six classes of varying sizes. Secondary school teachers
have a lot more benefits to their job than what it appears to be. A good majority of them are spiritual
or mental benefits, but some benefits are physical or monetary. Some secondary school teachers direct

Swanson was chosen to fill an unexpired term due to a former Council member resigning. I was
appointed to fill the vacancy created when someone left, says Swanson. In 2012, Swanson ran for
reelection for his fourth and final term. Becoming a councilman for the town of Winona Lake was
Swanson s first office job held in political local areas. When I ran for election four years ago, I made
the point then that I would not be running for another term after this current term, says Swanson. He
believes in term limits, and that it is good to always have new people cycling through a political

Receptor Cell Essay
THE RETINA: RECEPTOR CELLS
The receptor cells are the RODS and CONES. Each consists of: * A process consisting of outer and
inner segments. * An external fiber connecting the process with the soma. * A soma or body
containing the nucleus. * An inner fiber that resembles an axon and synapses with a bipolar cell.
Rods are extremely sensitive to light and can react to a single photon. The light is absorbed by the
pigment rhodopsin and the energy acquired results in decrease in cGMP which in turn causes the
closing of Na+ channels. This hyperpolarizes the cell causing a release of synaptic vesicles.

The Meyer s loop fibers carry information from the lower retina, and thus from the upper part of the
visual field to the lower bank of the calcarine fissure.
THE VISUAL CORTEX
The information received by the primary visual cortex is illlustrated in A below: It is inverted and
reversed, and the center has high resolution which becomes progressively worse toward the periphery.
In addition, there are fewer cones at the periphery, so the image contains less color at the periphery.
The visual cortex reconstructs the image with constant color and resolution.
INFLAMMATION OF THE OPTIC NERVE
Because nearly ½ of the fibers in the optic nerve are from the fovea, inflammation of the nerve will
affect color perception and resolution in the central vision in the ipsilateral eye.
LESION OF THE OPTIC NERVE
A lesion that destroys the optic nerve will destroy all input from that retina, leading to monocular
visual loss (blindness in that eye).
LESION OF THE OPTIC CHIASM
A lesion of the optic chiasm will destroy the fibers from the medial halves of both retinas where they
cross. Remember that the medial half of the retina receives the image from the lateral half of the visual
field. Thus a lesion of the optic chiasm will result in loss of the lateral halves of the visual fields,
sometimes called tunnel vision (bitemporal hemianopia).

Reviewing The Contract With Marshall
In examining the contract with Marshall there are a number of factors to consider. I would have to
examine all of the professional, legal, and spiritual implications of deciding to part ways with doing

impending financial success may not have been possible without his willingness to promote the grapes
in his store. Without taking the proper steps to rectify this situation in a peaceful manner, I might

Investopedia states: An implied contract is an agreement created by actions of the parties involved, but
it is not written or spoken. This is a contract assumed to have been drawn. In this case, there is no
written record nor any actual verbal agreement. (Investopedia, 2010) Under these terms, I would have
to determine what a fair interpretation of our implied contract would be and to what extent Marshall
should be compensated under those terms. I am under no legal obligation to continue to provide goods
and services and would instead insist on using a mutually agreed upon mediator to hash out a possible
financial settlement to compensate Marshall for his promotion of the product and find out whether or
not the new company that would purchase my product would be willing to offer Marshall a set rate
with their acquisition as a part of the sale. Marshall s Legal Defense In Marshall s defense I would
have to be prepared that he could use Promissory Estoppel as a legal defense should our case be
brought before a judge. If we are unwilling to come to an agreement the judge might enact this
particular method to award damages to Marshall based of our implied contract in good faith. In the
Seattle University Law Review it states: The function of the doctrine of promissory estoppel is, under
our view, defensive in that it estops a promisor

In the transit plans for next year the NCC shuttle is going to be permanently shut down along with other buses starting January 1st 2017. NCC Students who showed up to the informational meetings left shortly after being told that in these meetings the public is not allowed to voice their opinions since it was not a public hearing. There was however a testimony form that could be filled out telling the Transit how the changes will affect you which was not advertised. The informational meeting was set up so that there were four tables that people can sit at while they wait for one of the board members or Morton to talk to them about the changes they wanted to make to the bus schedules. The board gave out printed Power Points at this meeting explaining every change they are trying to make and a couple other important documents. There were three bus drivers there but none that are going to be impacted heavily by the changes being made. Morton is responsible for the transit company as a whole and she explained that the transit is funded by the state and federal transit system. Morton talked to each person that stayed at the informational meeting to explain the reason behind her plan. • 4. The Office of Warren G. Harding In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall, Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income tax for the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington Naval Conference. Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the Bureau of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it eventually helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This Bureau also allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy very easily. It saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited government spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced ... Palliative or End of life care is an issue faced in every country, and every country handles this situation differently. Canada has a rather large support for Palliative care. This form of care can take place in several different settings such as, hospitals, long term care facilities, home or hospice. The care can be provided by nurses, physicians, social workers, spiritual advisors, trained volunteers, family and loved ones. • 9. Compare Beowulf And Forrest Gump Nowadays many people believe that Beowulf and Forrest Gump are similar because they both considered as heroes of the time in which they lived. First of all, Beowulf considered as a hero because he is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is brave, and at the same time, a decent hero. There is no reason to doubt his merits. Forrest Gump is also considered as a hero because he thinks about faith, love, honesty, patriotism. He is a kind person who remained faithful to his family, friends, and his country. He is a man who always carries God in his soul, and lives according to the laws of Christian love to God and to the nearest ones. Both Beowulf and Forrest Gump do things that other people consider impossible. Beowulf and Forrest Gump can be compared as heroes representing their time period and cultures. Beowulf is a medieval heroic epic. The poem originated on the basis of ancient traditions related to pagan times. The poem represent an early example of precisely moral heroism, but not the one that is caused by the desire for fame and power. The main character of the poem, Beowulf, is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others. His courage is shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane s enemies. By being self assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the time Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, I ve never known fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me. (ll. 2511 2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying, When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this monster. (ll. 2525 2534) In his actions, Beowulf s bravery is clearly shown throughout the poem. The return of peace allowed for a new culture to emerge that was the opposite of samurai elegance and control; there was a new form of entertainment called Kabuki. These types of performers reversed gender roles and mocked samurai rulers, which caused the samurai, traders and workers in wealthy towns to disapprove of these performers. Even though they were annoyed at these performances, it confirmed what they took to be their innate superiority to the rowdy culture of the cities (203). The success of these performances can be explained by the cultural hierarchy theory. The cultural hierarchy is the idea that cultures create a divide to depict the ethical differences. The practice is done for the purposes of advancement of political objectives, also the attempt to provide stability within a hostile region, saving a fragile nation from collapse, and to provide support to oppressed groups and populations aligned with similar value structures. It is not a new policy tactic for the United States, there have been several cases where America has played a big role in nation reconstruction and redeveloping regional armed forces. While there have been some successful campaigns in these efforts to fight insurgency, improve conditions in regional civil conflicts, and stabilize areas, it has not always been effective policy. The United States has had a pretty varied legacy with these types of interventions. From different case examples, it can be concluded that when a liberator is rebuilding a state or a military, and is dealing with a population that is multi ethnic and has deep religious divisions, the effort is probably more likely to fail than to succeed. Further research also indicated that acting multilaterally produced much better results with nation reconstruction/intervention. Usually, during intervention campaigns, short term goals were reached, although there are often issues with achieving long term goals of peace and stability. • 22. The Unjust Society Of Selfish Society In John Locke s... The Unjust Society of Selfish Men Can a man s private interests result in an unjust society? In John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains that private interests lead to injustice. Private interests lead to an individual s desire for power which is the over arching theme in men s interest. Everything a man does he does for himself and his prosperity, instead of living in a state of equality. Selfish desires always lead to injustice because man consequently deprives others of what he has achieved. The violation of the rights of others is unjust, so by working for self gain, men deprive others rights. Since men live in a state of equality, treating others with fairness maintains that state. Unfortunately, men are naturally selfish, which means they live through their own self interest, and for their own self gain. Moreover, through a man s self interests equality does not exist, which leads to an unjust society. A man s self interests result in an unjust treatment of others, because as he works for his own self prosperity he is depriving others of the same opportunities. Injustice is a result of a man s self interests, such as wealth, property, and the desire of authority. The amount of wealth a man possesses determines his level of power, which leads to an unjust society. The amount of money a person possesses also determines his quantity of wealth. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Receptor Cell Essay THE RETINA: RECEPTOR CELLS The receptor cells are the RODS and CONES. Each consists of: * A process consisting of outer and inner segments. * An external fiber connecting the process with the soma. * A soma or body containing the nucleus. * An inner fiber that resembles an axon and synapses with a bipolar cell. Rods are extremely sensitive to light and can react to a single photon. The light is absorbed by the pigment rhodopsin and the energy acquired results in decrease in cGMP which in turn causes the closing of Na+ channels. This hyperpolarizes the cell causing a release of synaptic vesicles. Rhodopsin which can only detect variation in intensity of light resulting in gray level visio Horizontal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Meyer s loop fibers carry information from the lower retina, and thus from the upper part of the visual field to the lower bank of the calcarine fissure. THE VISUAL CORTEX The information received by the primary visual cortex is illlustrated in A below: It is inverted and reversed, and the center has high resolution which becomes progressively worse toward the periphery. In addition, there are fewer cones at the periphery, so the image contains less color at the periphery. The visual cortex reconstructs the image with constant color and resolution. INFLAMMATION OF THE OPTIC NERVE Because nearly ½ of the fibers in the optic nerve are from the fovea, inflammation of the nerve will affect color perception and resolution in the central vision in the ipsilateral eye. LESION OF THE OPTIC NERVE A lesion that destroys the optic nerve will destroy all input from that retina, leading to monocular visual loss (blindness in that eye). LESION OF THE OPTIC CHIASM A lesion of the optic chiasm will destroy the fibers from the medial halves of both retinas where they cross. Remember that the medial half of the retina receives the image from the lateral half of the visual field. Thus a lesion of the optic chiasm will result in loss of the lateral halves of the visual fields, sometimes called tunnel vision (bitemporal hemianopia). LESION OF THE OPTIC TRACT A lesion of the ... Irish Nachos Analysis In regards to the piece that you wrote the piece seems to be about a young woman trying to wrestle with her feelings about her faith and dealing with being slut shamed unfairly. The piece also touches on alcoholism, the importance of friendship, and taking the higher road in face of adversity. I really liked your story because I ve also had a crisis of faith, but I made my decision to leave the church instead. It was interesting to see the journey your character took to overcome her demons and heartbreaking as to what happened because of a careless pastor. I am curious as to what Irish nachos are as well. I would have to examine all of the professional, legal, and spiritual implications of deciding to part ways with doing business with his store. Marshall was an intricate part of getting the grapes initial recognition and the impending financial success may not have been possible without his willingness to promote the grapes in his store. Without taking the proper steps to rectify this situation in a peaceful manner, I might experience a backlash depending on Marshall s potential decision to bring this issue before the court of public opinion. Investopedia states: An implied contract is an agreement created by actions of the parties involved, but it is not written or spoken. This is a contract assumed to have been drawn. In this case, there is no written record nor any actual verbal agreement. (Investopedia, 2010) Under these terms, I would have to determine what a fair interpretation of our implied contract would be and to what extent Marshall should be compensated under those terms. I am under no legal obligation to continue to provide goods and services and would instead insist on using a mutually agreed upon mediator to hash out a possible financial settlement to compensate Marshall for his promotion of the product and find out whether or not the new company that would purchase my product would be willing to offer Marshall a set rate with their acquisition as a part of the sale. Marshall s Legal Defense In Marshall s defense I would have to be prepared that he could use Promissory Estoppel as a legal defense should our case be brought before a judge. If we are unwilling to come to an agreement the judge might enact this particular method to award damages to Marshall based of our implied contract in good faith. In the Seattle University Law Review it states: The function of the doctrine of promissory estoppel is, under our view, defensive in that it estops a promisor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
