The Effects Of Hiv On Female Sex Workers
Introduction
Since the first cases of HIV were detected among female sex workers (FSW) in Chennai, India in
1986, dramatic progress has been made in the last three decades in the battle against HIV both in India
and globally (Mayer, 2011). Despite this progress, new infections continue to occur in 2012, there
were an estimated 2.3 million persons newly infected with HIV globally (UNAIDS, 2013). Many new
infections often occur within the context of a serodiscordant relationship an infected partner in a
relationship transmits HIV to the uninfected partner. Over the past thirty years, several interventions
have been identified to prevent HIV transmission from HIV infected persons to uninfected persons in
serodiscordant relationships. Yet, transmissions continue to occur. Interventions such as voluntary
counseling and testing, condom promotion, and risk reduction counseling are very effective in
preventing transmission among serodiscordant couples but are underutilized in India despite their
widespread availability (Kumar et al., 2011). Interventions such as pre risk exposure prophylaxis
(PrEP) and universal antiretroviral therapy (irrespective of CD4 count) have been newly identified but
face several challenges that impede their widespread implementation in India (Kumar et al., 2011).
Serodiscordant couples in India also face certain unique socio cultural issues such as marital and
fertility pressure (Gupta et al., 2010).

The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay
Introduction
Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The
power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person
should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and
women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and
women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements
impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective
of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with
specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns,
symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this
paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying
arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions
and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others.
Methods
The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which
focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s
products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube
channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained

Analysis Of Land Of The Free, Because The Brave
Land of the Free, Because of the Brave
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave, O er the land of the free and the home of the brave? (
The Star Spangled Banner America s National Anthem ) America is only the land of the free because
of the brave, and some of the most important battles for freedom took place before the United States
of America became the United States. These battles were fought not by soldiers, but by citizens whose
rebellion allows Americans many of the freedoms they enjoy today. Religious tolerance, freedom for
both sexes, as well as minority groups, and freedom of the press are just some of the benefits from
these battles. Rebellion is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as ... action organized by a group of ...

This is not the only area in which he showed unusual respect for the Natives. In 1635 he was put on
trial in Salem for harboring views which proved too radical for the locals there. One of the radical
views Williams preached was that land should be bought from Natives, as opposed to being taken. In
fact, after his trial, (and subsequent banishment), the land on which he founded Providence, Rhode
Island was land he had purchased from the Narragansett Indians. Roger Williams helped shape
America into the refuge it would become by creating a colony on principles of religious tolerance and
equality regardless of race. While Williams was preparing a sanctuary for outcasts, a battle for
equality was also being fought by future resident of Rhode Island, Anne Hutchinson. Anne Hutchinson
embodied rebellion by promoting equality, which she did by working for the liberation of women,
particularly in the religious field. Although entirely without formal schooling, like virtually every
woman in her day, Anne Hutchinson had been well educated on her father s knee. Francis Marbury, a
Cambridge educated clergyman, school master, and Puritan reformer, was her father. In the late 1570s,
disagreements with Anglican authorities led to his censure, his imprisonment for several years, and his
own public trial on a charge of heresy, the same charge that would be brought against his daughter, of

Contract Transfer of Title to Real Property Essay
What advice R.J. is likely to give Padrina depends predominantly upon whether she and Orande have
an enforceable agreement. For a contract involving an agreement to transfer title to real property, as
here, to be enforceable, more than offer, acceptance and consideration must be present. The contract
must also comply with the Statute of Frauds. The Statute of Frauds requires that either the contract or
some memorandum of it is in writing and that writing is signed by the party to be charged. The writing
must also contain sufficient evidence of the contract s terms. Here, we are told to assume there is a
contract. However, there is no mention or evidence that the contract is in writing. So, we need to see if

In many cases where the parties did not specify some terms, the courts will presume they intended to
act according to a normative standard in the community. Here, the facts state the parties had a
contract. So, we do not need to address the formation issues. The property description does not have to
be a legal description if the evidence shows that, as between the seller and buyer, there was an
understanding of which property was involved. Here, there is no legal description. But, there is no
evidence Orande owned any other property known as CALIacre in Las Nachos. Therefore, this note
probably meets the property description test. The note refers to the parties by name. So, it provides
that term. The note refers to Orande s agreement to sell and Padrina s to buy CALIacre with the
attached apartment. As a result, it provides evidence of their agreement to sell and buy. The notes state
the price as $1,500,000. So, it meets that requirement. When, as here, the parties fail to state the terms
of payment, courts presume payment is in cash at the time of closing. Here, the note refers to a
mortgage amount and Padrina s having the rest of the money in cash. Therefore, a court would likely
presume they intended a cash payment to Orande at the time of closing. If the parties fail to state a
closing date, courts infer they intended to close within a reasonable time after they entered into their

Problems With Legal Aid In The Canadian Justice System
The Rich Get Richer: Problems with Legal Aid in the Canadian Justice System
In a 2007 speech by Beverly McLachlin, the Supreme Court of Canada Chief of Justice, she stated that
access to justice promotes social stability and also that if people can t get justice, they will have less
respect for the law (Eberts, 2013). By her words alone, the necessity and importance of legal aid is
demonstrated. Socioeconomic status can put individuals at an unfair disadvantage in many aspects of
life, especially in regards to legal proceedings. Legal aid [was] introduced to Canada in the 1970 s as a
way of ensuring fair trial, and decreasing the frequency of common problems that result from
misunderstanding of the law, unrepresented litigants and the power of money (Abell, 2010). However,
like any tool or procedure used to improve society, there are always imperfections. Legal aid resources
have become difficult to obtain financially and situationally, and the quality of this resource is often
put into question. Without it, people and the justice system face consequences that need to be resolved
in order to achieve the social stability that McLachlin speaks of.
Access to Legal Aid Of the 717,850 Canadian legal aid applications in 2014/2015 only 466,923 were
approved, this leaves 250,927 applicants with potentially no other option for legal representation
(Statistics Canada, 2016a; Statistics Canada, 2016b). There are many factors that contribute to these
statistics and to the denial

My Childhood At The Alemany Farmer s Market
It has been years since I have gone to the Alemany Farmer s Market and walked down the wet
concrete to look for fresh vegetables and fruits. As a four year old, I would wake up at exactly half
past five every Saturday morning to get dressed in my warm jacket and make it to the farmer s market
by six. I would hold my mom s hand and walk down the same exact wet concrete sidewalk, playing
games with the ground, trying not to step on the cracks to keep myself busy. My mom would make
small talk with the vendors, asking about their lives and how they were doing. She always got the best
groceries, the ones hidden from the public. My favorite vendor was always at the very end of the
market where we would get our flowers. Every Saturday I would run up to her booth with smile and
the old Japanese lady would smile back and hand me a flower. The colorful murals and the smell of
the greens and flowers brings back the fond memories of my childhood at the Alemany farmer s
market as I walk down the wet concrete as a high school senior with a different mission in mind. Even
though it is a little later in the morning and the market seems to be bustling with more people than I
remembered, the familiar San Francisco fog and encouragement of my mother makes me feel like I
had never stopped my Saturday tradition. Little green tents are set up at the entrance and beyond them
are the separate booths and some more white tents. They have canvas tarp signs hanging at the top of
the tents with the

And Disadvantages Of E-Commerce
Transactional websites also known as e commerce (abbreviation for electronic commerce) are
websites that are used for online trade between two parties (the buyer and the seller). Transactional

Educating The Youth In The Kite Runner
Why is it that you go to school as a child while you are young, rather than as a more mature adult?
Education is started at the age of three in most places because children are the future. The next
generation. That is why educating the youth is the most important task in achieving social injustice.
Educating the youth can be achieved in many different ways, one of them being through the teachers
in classrooms. In The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, you see Assef bullying Hassan about how he
is a Hazara. Later Assef goes on to use the analogy of the Pashtuns being the Nazis, and says,
Remember that if they had let Hitler finish what he had started, the world would be a better place (40).

One day in school Scout was learning about Hitler and how he was such a bad person. Their teacher
explained that he had done all these bad things. Later, Scout overhears her teacher at the courthouse
speaking negatively about blacks. Scout being curious says to jem, Jem, how can you hate Hitler so
bad an then turn around and be ugly about folks right at home (283). Throughout the court case Scout
matures due to Atticus teachings and realizes the social injustice that occurs every day to the blacks in
their own town. Scout is the only student that we saw realize this, and it is because of Atticus. We see
this when Scout says, Ugly about folks right at home . When Scout says, Turn around it is Harper Lee
explaining to us how the townspeople are two faced. However, not Atticus. He sticks by his morals the
whole time. He took the Tom Robinson case, to teach his kids that there are social injustices, and they
need to be fixed.
In conclusion, the Education of children is the most vital way in gaining social justice and equality.
Education however, can be taught in many different ways including school, parents, and friends. When
children are taught about the injustices in society, they come to an understanding that things need to be
done and changes need to be

Unit 10 Lead Manage a Team within a health social care setting answers
Amanda Dickinson
AC 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
Syer Connolly (1996) describes a team system as a group of people who constitute a system of
interrelated entities and whose members share a common goal. They argue that team members need to
develop awareness of themselves and each other, and of their differences, through giving descriptive
feedback. This allows appreciation of differences, good contact and improved communication. Trust,
respect, team spirit and synergy may then emerge. Consequently this leads to a highly developed
awareness. The notion of a cycle more easily suggests the kind of continuous process that teams go
through and need to revisit as new members ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clarity of purpose increases but plenty of uncertainties persist. Cliques form and there may be conflict
and power struggles. The team needs to be focused on its goals to avoid becoming distracted by
relationships and emotional issues. Compromises may be required to enable progress. The leader
coaches.
Norming stage 3
Agreement and consensus is largely formed among the team, who respond well to facilitation by
leader. Roles and responsibilities are clear and accepted. Big decisions are made by group agreement.
Smaller decisions may be delegated to individuals or small teams within group. Commitment and
unity is strong. The team may engage in fun and social activities. The team discusses and develops its
processes and working style. There is general respect for the leader and some of leadership is more
shared by the team. The leader facilitates and enables.
Performing stage 4
The team is more strategically aware; the team knows clearly why it is doing what it is doing. The
team has a shared vision and is able to stand on its own feet with no interference or participation from
the leader. There is a focus on over achieving goals, and the team makes most of the decisions against
criteria agreed with the leader. The team has a high degree of autonomy. Disagreements occur but now
they are resolved within the team positively and necessary changes to processes and structure are
made

Second Circuit Conjunctive Analysis Essay
Since Frank Lyon, the Circuit Courts have been divided on how to apply the two prong test of the
economic substance doctrine. The inconsistency is reflected in the current and ongoing STARS
transaction cases. Each circuit has chosen a different path pertaining to the test. The Second Circuit
applies a flexible unitary analysis. The Federal Circuit applies a conjunctive analysis but takes a
different approach from the Second Circuit in applying the objective prong of the test. The Eighth
Circuit also applies the conjunctive test and also applies the objective prong differently. Finally, the
First Circuit applies a disjunctive analysis.
Alongside similar facts, the courts faced a common key question in analyzing the objective prong in
the STARS cases: whether the relevant transaction created a reasonable opportunity for profit
exclusive of the tax benefits claimed.
BNY explicitly included the foreign taxes paid by the U.S. bank as part of the costs of the transaction,
despite authority that both U.S. taxes and foreign taxes should be ignored in the evaluation of pretax
profitability. However, BNY and Salem did not include income from the Bx payment in their analysis
of profitability because they had characterized that payment as a tax effect. Santander took the
opposite approach. It concluded that the Bx payment was not a tax rebate and therefore treated it as
income for purposes of the profitability analysis, resulting in a determination that the satisfied the
objective prong

Essay about Mistaken Identity for Twelfth Night
Mistaken Identity William Shakespeare, in his well known comedy Twelfth Night, creates a plot that
revolves around mistaken identity and deception. Mistaken identity, along with disguises, rules the
play and affects the lives of several of the characters. Shakespeare s techniques involve mistaken
identity to bring humor, mystery, and complication to the play. Many characters in Twelfth Night
assume disguises, beginning with Viola who is disguised as a eunuch, Maria who writes a letter to
Malvolio as Olivia, and then the mix up between Sebastian and Viola are revealed. The instances of
mistaken identity are related to many disguises in the play. Viola, who puts on male attire, begins to

Maria and the conspirators decide to mislead Malvolio into thinking that Olivia is in love with him.
Maria decides to lead him on by writing a letter, but means to be from Olivia. This love letter is meant
to instruct Malvolio to do actions that Olivia despises. Maria is able to mislead Malvolio because she
has the same print and seal as Olivia. Shakespeare is able to trick the characters and create many
portrayals of them. The mistaken identity in this play is related to the prevalence of disguises in the
play as Viola s male clothing leads to her being mistaken for her brother Sebastian. Sebastian is
mistaken for Viola (or rather, Cesario) by Sir Andrew and Sir Toby, and then by Olivia, who quickly
marries him. Meanwhile, Antonio mistakes Viola for Sebastian and thinks that his friend has betrayed
him when Viola claims not to know him. While Viola is in a sword fight against Sir Andrew, Antonio
is trying to be a loyal friend by taking the place of Viola, who he thinks is Sebastian. Antonio is not
liked by Orsino s court, so he is then arrested and taken away. While this is happening, Antonio asks
Viola for his purse back, which he gives to Sebastian. Viola becomes extremely confused and claimed
not having his purse and being a close friend of his. Antonio takes this as deception and thinks that
Sebastian, who is really Viola, is a coward. These cases of mistaken identity, common in

A Research Study On Black Males
Problem Statement: In many school districts throughout the United States, Black males are more
likely than any other group to be suspended and expelled from school (Meier, Stewart, England,
1989). Youth of color are disproportionately likely to grow up in poor, disadvantaged neighborhoods
characterized by high levels of psychosocial stressors and inadequate supportive resources; Poverty
and racial minority status correlate with an increased risk of high school dropout, teen pregnancy,
substance abuse, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)(Ssewamala, et. al, 2011). Affected with
such a threatening collection of social and economic adversities, it is amazing that the experience of
Black males in education, in relation to attainment and gauges of academic performance have not been
analyzed more closely. I propose to do a qualitative research study that explores: 1. Educational
attachment in the Black male community in the Bronx. On the rise, or failing below the average? 2.
What are the barriers to educational attainment for Black men living in the Bronx? 3. If there are
barriers, what are these barriers? Are they unique to Black Men? 4. How can these barriers be
overcome? (Institutional, or cultural) Method and Analysis: Over the next 6 months a descriptive
qualitative study will be conducted based on a variety of psychosocial factors that affect Black Male
youth from 14 21. Using surveys, and semi structured interviews. A systematic random sample of

The Church Of King Henry VIII And The English Reformation
The churches of the Anglican Communion have their historical roots in the English Reformation
(Anglican History). The Anglican church originated when King Henry VIII split from the Roman
Catholic Church in 1534 when Pope Clement VII refused to grant the king an annulment.
The following overview derives from the New Catholic Encyclopedia. Henry VIII, the second s son of
King Henry VII, was groomed for ruling the Church during his youth, with a broad education in
theology, music, languages, and poetry. His elder brother was being prepared for the throne, but
passed away from a sudden illness. Henry VIII took over as King, and became engaged to his brother
s widow, Catherine of Aragon. Based on the Old Testaments ban on marrying the widow of your
brother, King Henry VIII became concerned his marriage was cursed by God. He petitioned Pope
Clement VII for a papal annulment, but the Pope immediately rejected the annulment. In 1531, he
compelled the English clergy to accept him as head of the church of England, leading the Parliament
to pass a series of laws depriving the Roman Catholic Church of any authority in England. King
Henry VIII received the same legal authority over the English Church that the Pope operated over the
Roman Catholic Church. Following this, Kind Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn, and split his church
from the Roman Catholic Church, forming the original Anglican Church.
The word Anglican originates from the ecclesia anglicana, a medieval Latin phrase that dates back to
1246. The Latin phrase means The English Church. The Church of England traces its history back to
the 2nd century, when Christianity first arrived in Britain. The religion of Anglicanism believes that
there is only one God, but there are three elements of the Divine: God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit. Anglican theology tends to be biblical pastoral and apologetic, rather than
dogmatic of confessional. The valid baptism in the Anglican religion is by water, in the Name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People baptized during infancy are expected to reaffirm
their baptismal promise as they get older (Encyclopedia of Religion).
Anglicanism is sometimes called the via media, the middle way,

Traditional Aboriginal Dancing
Traditional Aboriginal Dancing
There were many Indigenous Australian Aboriginals that danced different dances in different ways,
when and where they performed dances varied immensely, as did the way they were taught or the
reasons behind why they danced.
Who performed Aboriginal dances?
Traditional Aboriginal dances are performed by Indigenous Aboriginals from numerous tribal groups
across Australia (Aboriginal Australia Art Culture Centre, n.d.). The technique and approach observed
in performances varies and is tailored to suit the region (NSW Department of Education and
Communities, 2011). The way an Aboriginal person dances really depends on where they came from

To conclude a day and families use dancing as a way of entertaining and communicating to each other
before a new day would start (Australian Government, 2015). They would also perform a variety of

How did they learn to dance?
Each generation teaches the dance to the most deserving of the next generation which is a great

Australian Aboriginals used danced to communicate stories of the cultural spirits and legends, along

The Death Of Hektor And The Destruction Of Troy
The death of Hektor and the destruction of Troy were solely caused by his own pride. His refusal to
the surrender, which would protect him and most importantly the whole town of Troy, demonstrated
his unimaginable selfish behavior. Instead of protecting Troy, Hektor, without hesitation, picked to
fight in order to prove his superiority. . This is an example of how one s life can be demolished if pride
and honor is prioritized. Hektor acquiesced his whole life to a strong desire for honor, which was
implanted in his head by his parents. Oppositions towards my personal beliefs are made by associates
from church. Very Slavic beliefs are still heavily implied in the surrounding society and the tendency

Main users of financial Statements
Users of financial statements are same as stakeholders. Stakeholders can be defined as people who

Investors, Lenders, Suppliers and other trade creditors, Employees, Customers, Governments and their
agencies and The public. According to the financial statement, they can get useful information.
Investors are people who invest money in companies in order to make the profit or get advantages.
They need to know whether it has the risk to invest in this business or company, they need to consider
about does this company have an internal financial problem? Also, they need to know how much they
can get after they invested in this company.
Lenders are people who lend money or something to someone or a company. For example, Bank. The
Bank needs to know dose this company has the ability to repay the loans and interest. Also potential

Hot Chocolate Cookies Essay
The name of the recipe I will be making is Mexican hot chocolate cookies. The reason I chose
Mexican hot chocolate cookies is I find this cookie super unique in taste and texture compared to other
cookies. It is fairly simple to make. I learned how to make these cookies with my mother. It was not
for a special occasion, we just wanted to try a new recipe. Our family often packages the cookies,
three per bag, to take to the military base and distribute to the security forces folks on duty. They
really appreciate being thought of. They often tease my mother saying it has been too long since she
brought them by. There are stories of people hiding them from their spouse or family members. The
recipe originally appeared on Martha Stewart s website. My mother made some changes to the recipe
along the way. It is best to gather all of the ingredients and equipment before you begin to prepare the
recipe. One important tip is to set the butter on the counter for twenty minutes before starting the
recipe. We learned quickly that the temperature of the butter plays a big role in how the cookies turn
out. Consequently, if the butter is too warm the cookies spread out while baking. We determined that
somewhere between twenty and thirty minutes is best. The equipment needed for this recipe is:
Equipment: parchment paper, a medium size bowl, a large bowl, a hand mixer or stand mixer, mixing
spoon, measuring spoons, sifter, spatula, cookie scoop, fork and two cookie sheets. The

Dystopian Bildungsroman
The effect that dystopian societies have on Bildungsroman is not necessarily large, but it still alters the
traditional view of it. First off the dystopian society has a few trademarked aspects. These include: the
use of propaganda to control people, restrictions on freedom, a certain concept is worshipped by
society, constant surveillance, fear of outside world, dehumanized state, real world is banished and
distrusted, individuality is bad, and the society is supposed to be a utopia. (readwritethink.org)
One of the major differences in Dystopian Bildungsroman is that traditionally the protagonist will
have people who are mentors and help them to find their correct place in society, but in dystopia there
are not many good mentors leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bildungsroman was originally directly about the protagonist s character formation and finding their
place in society, but the dystopian society brings more of a focus on the protagonist discovering their
place despite the corrupt society surrounding them. In Divergent Tris has a choice to make about her
future, she has her family to stay with and a community that she grew up in and is expected to stay in.
What the society has ingrained in her is that despite what she wants her best place is with her family in
the same faction. Society has supplied them with a false hope of making their own choice when they
turn sixteen. When they do turn sixteen, they must take an aptitude test and attend the choosing
ceremony. The aptitude tests place the teens in simulations of situations that are meant to tell them
where they fit the best in society, and generally the teens only receive one faction that best fits them.
In Tris case she received three different factions as possible choices and was told to keep her results a
secret because this rarely happened and she would be in danger if the people in power found out. This
breaks the mold of Bildungsroman because Tris society has inadvertently given her more than one
option showing that there isn t just one place she can be useful but

Building A Strong Faith Community Essay
Building a strong faith community is the primary mission of St. Timothy Catholic School.
Consequently, administrators and teachers work together to provide students with formal religious
education, enriched with faith centered activities and assignments. Through such activities as
sacramental preparation, saint reports, and devotions to Mary, students are encouraged to learn about
their faith, develop a deep and personal relationship with Jesus, and spread the good news.
Furthermore, as primary educators of their children, parents are welcome to participate in the school
faith community. Most notably, St. Timothy School parents developed the Mary s Corner component
of the school website. Contributing to the Catholic identity, Mary s Corner is a parent created and
maintained blog on faith filled activities, and other information that helps parents stay connected to
the faith community.
The St. Timothy School Infiorata To foster and enhance the faith community, St. Timothy Catholic
School held an Infiorata. Traditionally, Infiorata is a flower art festival held in Italy, among other
countries, as a prelude to the feast of Corpus Christi. In this centuries old tradition, townspeople
throughout Italy work through the night on Saturday, to cover the streets with religious images
depicted using only flower petals. On Sunday morning, in celebration of the feast of Corpus Christi,
the bishop carries the Blessed Sacrament in procession, walking on the flower carpet.

According to Channel Newsasia on 24th February 2016 in the report of Malaysia January inflation
rate rises, but rates seen on hold , and proven again by lately news on 25th Macrch 2016 from The
Star online Higher food prices push February inflation above forecast , both of the news are expecting
the inflation rate of Malaysia will increase in 2016. We are adopting the news as our fundamental
analysis to the futures trading to predict the effect of macroeconomic variable which is inflation that
could affect the stock price movement in April. As we can read from the news, Malaysia s inflation
rate rose at a faster than expected pace of 4.2% in Febraury from a year ago following higher food
prices and a jump in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Moreover, the Statistics Department also
proposed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for February rose by 4.2% to 114.5 compared with
109.9 a year ago. Economists had forecast a 4.1% increase. As we know, CPI is proxy as inflation.
CPI is the benchmark inflation and it uses a basket of goods approach that aims to compare a
consistent base of products from year to year, focusing on products that are bought and used by
consumers on a daily basis. The price of your milk, eggs, and daily essential are all captured in the
CPI. So, based on our analysis that rely on news that release to the public from January to March, we
should alert to the macroeconomic changes that could give a huge impact to KLCI price movement.

A Fantastic Voyage Into the Body
TOP SECRET FOR YOUR EYES ONLY MISSION BRIEF DATE: 7 July 2012 TIME: 14:50 GMT
LOCATION: Anywhere, NY SOURCE: TOP SECRET OVERVIEW: Ms. Emma S., senior operative
for the OSPI Organizational Unit in Beijing, fell ill last night. Preliminary tests show that during a
cocktail party at the Slobovanian Embassy, she ingested a bacterium in an appetizer that has now
settled in the lower lobe of her right lung. This bacterial invasion is of no type we have ever seen, and
the concern is that she is meant to be the carrier of a new biological warfare weapon, ostensibly tested
prior to spreading to the United States. MISSION: Using our new secret miniaturization process, we
will be injecting you and a team of medical and viral experts into Ms. S s right femoral artery. You
will proceed with all due haste, cataloging your views and findings along the way, to the lower right
lung lobe, then, if appropriate, use laser, chemical, and genetic measures to mitigate and alleviate the
infection. Time is of the essence, as you know, we are only able to keep you miniaturized for 2 hours,
at which time you and your craft will begin to grow large enough to cause the body to view you as a
viral invader, and you will be destroyed by white blood cells and other body defenses. GENERAL
DIRECTIONS: The right femoral vein merges into the inferior vena cava, which then merges with the
superior vena cava and enters the heart via the right atrium. Once in the heart, you will be propelled

This is because, having passed the age where children learn things in a simple way, Genie would not
benefit much from the fast approach. It is difficult for a person in their adult age to grasp things in
their environment in a simple way like when they were in the childhood. Therefore it requires time
more time for them learn and effectively interact with the environment. I would handle Irene s with
more special care and at the same time being more observant to identify any possible development.
This is because, having experience untold harm, Genie s rehabilitation and care to a normal person
would require extra attention and a step by step evaluation.
Since Genie, demonstrated no sense of personality, leave alone that of sexuality, I would apply the
slow approach to get Genie learn the environment. This would enable her effectively discover things
by herself through experience. When Genie was eighteen years old, she still had a lot of difficulty in
learning basic aspects of life. As a researcher, I would have located her to an appropriate environment,
probably a rehabilitation center where she would start to learn by discovering things by her own. The
handling of the Genie s case was subjected into three big mistakes. Firstly, the psychologist who
developed as attention to study her case placed her in an appropriate position and condition. As she
was already a severe victim, Genie would have

Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center
Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled in a
ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his second home . In
2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th President as a tribute
to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university resides today. As a result the
Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded in 2007 at the university. In essence the Theodore Roosevelt
Center was founded to manage Roosevelt s archives as like many prior presidents, he did not have an
established presidential library. Many of his papers were scattered in archives around the country
including the Library of Congress, Harvard University, six national parks, and in smaller collections at
numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began a partnership with the Library of Congress to
digitize the Library s vast holdings related to Theodore Roosevelt, with the intent to make them freely
available online. Its broad audience scope is to attract everyone from scholars and schoolchildren,
enthusiasts and interested citizens and to provide well organized high quality reference material to
enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president. The physical library is expected to open in 2019 but is
available online.

Persuasive Essay On Why We Are Homeless
Throughout our cities streets we see a majority of people who are homeless everyday. What was once
almost a rare site to see, has now become something common and is increasing in great numbers. As a
society our first instinct when we see a homeless person is to ignore them and judge them based on
how they look and what they re doing. We don t seem to take into consideration that they may be
homeless based on their circumstances. Many people try to help those who are homeless, but it s not
enough. If we have laws that prevents people from being homeless, then shouldn t we have laws
enforcing resources for those who find themselves homeless? As a society we have many ways to help
those who desperately want and need the help. It would not be a matter of supporting them forever but
helping them and giving them the opportunity to get back on their feet. We have the ability to create a
system that offers people a second chance when life has knocked them down. In 2015 a study was
found where it was discovered that over five hundred thousand people in America alone were
experiencing homelessness in some way or another. Throughout those numbers we don t know how
many of them are children. Does that change the way we choose to look at the issue? Families who
have become homeless are also apart of those numbers and they are increasing rapidly. Homeless
families make up about forty percent of the homeless population. Homeless shelters are not all that

Unlike them, Hamlet does not seem confused by the world. He lights the scene, then plunges it into
darkness. His ability to control what viewers see indicates his power. He changes and affects people s
lives in ways that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern cannot. For example, he kills Polonius, then disposes
of the body. When Hamlet speaks, he frequently confuses other characters with riddles. Hamlet reads
the letter ordering his execution in England. But he reads it silently, masking whatever emotion he
might be feeling about his friends betrayal. Regardless of whether he is actually insane, Hamlet s
rational behavior stands in contrast to the slow, puzzled demeanor displayed by Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern stand in for humanity as a whole. Unlike real people,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern lack imaginative power and memory. For instance, Rosencrantz cannot
imagine England. He tells Guildenstern that he cannot picture himself leaving the ship or speaking to
the king. Rosencrantz cannot imagine the future. But neither he nor Guildenstern remembers who has
the letter for the English king. They cannot learn from their mistakes, nor can they conceive of acting
in any way other than what they have done before. Each moment exists separately from the one that
came before or the one that is to come, so that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are constantly being
surprised by their situations.

The Third Largest Coal Ash Spill
The third largest coal ash spill in United States history has left some citizens in North Carolina fearing
their water is not safe to drink. This fear is a result of anywhere between 50,000 and 82,000 tons of
coal ash and up to twenty seven million gallons of contaminated water being dumped into the Dan
River in Eden, North Carolina on February 2, 2014. The spill was caused by a busted storm drain pipe
that ran under an unlined coal ash pond at Duke Energy s Dan River Combined Cycle Station ( Duke
Energy s Grievous ). Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal for energy and contains substances such
as arsenic, lead, and mercury. These toxic chemicals are not only harmful to the environment but to
the human population as well (Christian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The coal ash that is buried underground still has the potential to seep into the neighboring water
supply. Also, the high risk ponds will not be evacuated until 2019 and the low intermediate risk ponds
as late as 2029. Subsequently, there will still be run off from these ponds polluting fresh water for the
time being ( House, Senate Approve ). This settlement is not a win for residents surrounding these
impoundments. Preventing seepage from coal ash ponds and completely removing the coal ashes
away from fresh water is the only way North Carolinians will feel safe about their drinking water, no
matter the proposed risk classification.
For instance, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) handed out a Clean Water Act
permit to the Duke Energy Riverbend coal ash site on Mountain Island Lake on the Catawba River
which supplies water for Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Mount Holly, and Gastonia. This pollution
discharge permit is supposed to protect Mountain Island Lake from harmful coal ash pollution coming

pollution and was issued to remove the coal ash pond at Riverbend. The coal ash lagoons are

In 2004, Szabo and Griffiths conducted a study on the importance of exercise for sport science
students compared to general exercisers. They found that exercise addiction was twice as high at 6.9%
than the rest of the population at 3.6%. Based on this data, it was concluded that exercise students
were simply committed to their sports studies both personally and professionally (Szabo Griffiths,
2004, p. 27).
Among athletes, exercise addiction was found in 52% of triathletes with 26% being male runners and
25% female runners (Berczik et al., 2012). Besides these sports, Krivoschekov and Lushnikov (2011)
found addiction to exercise in those practicing sports such as martial arts, weightlifting, athletics, and
bodybuilding. Addiction was also observed in people performing exercises for health. Individuals that
did exercise purely for health were motivated by the rewards of weight regulations and good health
(Lichtenstein, Larsen, Christiansen, Støving, Bredahl, 2014).

Steven Spielberg s Interpretation of Philip K. Dicks s Minority Report
In the year 2054 crime has become a thing of the past. The relatively new Pre Crime system allows the
government to operate an elite police force, which with the help of three very talented and unique
human beings can see into the future and prevent countless crimes, especially murders before they
happen. In Philip K. Dicks s short story, The Minority Report, the world we live in is nearly infallible.
With the reduction of violent criminal acts, people can live their lives in peace and prosperity without
the fear of the pain and suffering, which usually accompanies violence. Likewise, in director Steven

In both instances, as the story approaches an end point, Anderton realizes that his original vision of the
predicament facing him was faulty. The shock and amazement that the individuals who Anderton
though were behind an apparent plot to seize his job by framing him for murder, were in fact simply
doing their jobs by pursuing him, leads the main character to uncover a plan where other previously
benign forces were at play manipulating the situation at hand for their own personal gains. In the final
moments of both narrations of the story, the somewhat ironic endings for those involved lead to the
proclamation of Anderton s innocence and the punishment of those really attempting to manipulate the
Pre Crime system for their own use.
Although both Dick s and Spielberg s versions of The Minority Report were alike in many general
ways, Spielberg s later interpretation of Dick s short story did deviate somewhat for its original
context. Whereas Dick s version of the narrative pitted John Anderton, the director of Pre Crime
against other corrupt elements of the government, Spielberg s version, had Anderton struggle with
internal elements within his own organization which were trying to assure a safe future for the Pre
Crime system. Furthermore, in Dick s story Anderton was actually being framed by an Army General,
Kaplan, in an effort to prove that Pre Crime was faulty, which would

Pride And Prejudice Essay
Pride and Prejudice: Marriage
Essay written by Maria Engstrom
Introduction
For this essay, I chose to read the perhaps most famous book by the English author Jane Austen.
During the reading I was thinking about which theme I should choose to write about and analyze, and
eventually I felt that marriage was the central keyword in the book. I will concentrate on the situation
of the daughters in the family, since these are the best described in the novel. My dealing with
different ideals and problems within a marriage will be illustrated with examples from the text.
Analysis
quot;Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so

Since money is so important, Wickham tries to elope with Georgiana Darcy only because of her
fortune of £30,000 since the property of a woman automatically becomes the property of the husband
in the marriage.
Marriage was therefore a great security for a happy life since there was nothing like the social
security, old age pensions or health insurances we are provided with today.
quot;If you go on refusing every offer of marriage, you will never get a husband and I am sure I do not
know who is to maintain you when your father is dead. quot;
The sentence above is the quoting of Mrs. Bennet to Elizabeth after the refusal of Mr. Collins
proposal. The statement reflects the situation for women in the novel and during this period. No
professions (politics, university related etc.) were open for women of the genteel classes, so
independence on the woman s hand almost never occurred. The only quot;profession quot; available
was that of being a governess, which meant educating the daughters of a family, but this was a job
with low working conditions and lowly paid. Therefore women had to marry their life into money,
happiness and a secured future (if they did not by chance happened to inherit a large sum of money.)
As Charlotte
Lucas thoughts before accepting the proposal of Mr. Collins are pictured in the novel:

Types of Family Structure
Understanding Family The type of family structure I grew up in was very traditional and structured.
The family was intact. Mom stayed home and dad went to work in order to make money to pay the
bills. He was always the breadwinner, and mom was a stay at home mom who took care of the
children and the house instead of working outside the home. Both parents were open minded, warm,
and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of the children, the house,
and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is being passed along to
future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show how things can work out very
nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the older ways of raising a family. Both
parents do not always have to work for there to be enough money to survive (Mattox, 1990). It is
possible for the mother to stay home, and if she has a lot of children it might actually be less
expensive than paying for daycare (Forbes, 2005). If mom works but her entire paycheck goes for
childcare expenses she has not gained anything. She has only lost time with her children (Forbes,
2005). While there are not as many moms who stay home today, there is nothing wrong with mom
staying home and dad working. My parents were always happy with that arrangement and did not see
the need to make changes. They were open minded enough to have made changes, though, if they had
both wanted to or if there was

Summary Of The Middle English Breton Lay Sir Freine
The following close reading concerns itself with the Middle English Breton Lay Sir Degaré, though
speculative, the poem s composition has been dated to the 14th Century and the poem survives in six
manuscripts and three early printed editions, it is a romance of high antiquity, preserved in the
Auchinleck MS. Some suggest that the poem takes clear inspiration from the Middle English
translation of Marie de France s Le Fresne: Lay le Freine. Moreover, some propose that Sir Degaré is
more accurately described as an emulation, believing it to be more an imitation made up from a
variety of stories, as it borrows not only motifs but direct phrasing from Lay Le Freine. Not only do
both texts share a similar rhyming scheme, rhyming couplets, and semi alliterative lines, they are also
similar in relation to common genre conventions. In this respect, the Breton Lay has been understood
by many to be the predecessor to the modern fairy tale, and indeed, Sir Degaré is enveloped in themes
such as love, the supernatural, and critically, the correlation between the two constructs of gender,
which themselves are manifested in the modern day fairy tale.
The opposition is apparent between the two constructs of gender, man was glad a blithe , (joyful)
(155) whereas the princess siked an sorewed swithe. (sickened and sorrowed) (156) This disparity
underlines the attitudes that permeate this text, considering the atrocity that has occurred, it is
sickening to comprehend. Alluringly,

Literature Review of Celebrity Endorsement
Running head: A LITERARY REVIEW OF CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENT
Celebrity Endorsement in Mass Media Advertising Brands Celebrity endorsement in mass media
advertising has become a very beneficial phenomenon for many countries and has significantly
increased in the past decade, and should be the main principle of brand communications since it is the
key to marketing success. Any product that is displayed in a television commercial or magazine
advertisement by a corporation that uses a celebrity or well known public figure to give a testimonial
or information about the product, is practicing celebrity endorsement. Although commonly thought of
starting in the United States, celebrity endorsement began in India during the 80s but has since ...

She was dropped from her endorsements from large companies Burberry, H M, and Chanel, when
photographs of her snorting cocaine surfaced in magazines and websites. Companies using a celebrity
endorser take into account the serious consequences (loss of revenue, bad image) of putting a tainted
face to their product since as stated above, the brand s whole personality is often dependent on the
celebrity endorser.
Another aspect that is taken into account pertaining to the effectiveness of the celebrity endorser is to
directly measure the degree that the consumers evaluate the celebrity as genuinely liking the product
that they are endorsing. According to Gilbert and Malone (1995), these evaluations are recognizable
under a type of judgment called
correspondent inferences. Correspondent inferences generally refer to a judgment that consumers
observe the endorser s behavior in the advertisement to then infer consistent character in the endorser.
For example, the consumer would observe an athlete saying he loves the breakfast cereal Wheaties,
and then the consumer would infer that the athlete really does, in fact, like Wheaties. Adding to this
study, McCracken (1986) suggests that a celebrity that best represents the appropriate symbolic
properties of the product should be selected, thus, highlighting the importance of the cultural
meanings of celebrities in the endorsement process. Culturally speaking,

Exposing The Watergate Scandal
Woodward and Bernstein faced several obstacles while exposing the Watergate Scandal and Nixon s
involvement. At first their editor blocks them because their story lacks. They had few leads, and the
leads they had led to nothing. When they called people who they thought were involved in to get
information they would not talk and would hang up. Also when Bernstein called the White House
Library to see if Howard Hunt checked out any material on Senator Kennedy. At first the librarian
knew exactly what he was wanting and remembered he had checked out the material, then the
librarian just suddenly forgot and said he did not check out any of the mentioned material. So that is
some obstacle they faced while exposing the Watergate Scandal and Nixon s

Superstitions in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by...
Superstition
In Huckleberry Finn multiple instances of superstitions arise and seem to be engraved in the culture,
even the most utmost examples being rarely questioned and continually passed on from generation to
generation like a hand me down. In modern society, superstition is one big mind game. Eventually,
enough people are affected by these notions that they become evidence for others. In both modern day
and in the late 1800s when the story of Huck Finn took place, superstition has been used as a cloak to
explain events or occurrences that humans cannot or simply choose not to explain in a logical manner,
oftentimes showing the illogical thinking and gullibility of a certain society.
In the story, Jim is a runaway slave. Because many unfair things happen to slaves, superstition plays a
more prevalent role in Jim s life. Jim uses superstitions to justify unfortunate events that happen to
him, just accepting what had happened rather than investigating. In Chapter 10, Huck handles a
snakeskin and Jim warns Huck that it would cause them bad luck. Later on, Huck finds another
rattlesnake. Once Huck had killed the snake, he put it in the bottom of Jim s blanket, searching for a
good laugh when Jim found it. It eventually attracted another snake that bit Jim when he crawled in.
Huck never told Jim that he put the dead snake in his blanket. Jim then scolded Huck about handling
the snake skin earlier Jim said he reckoned I would believe him next time. And he said that

  • 2. The Effects Of Hiv On Female Sex Workers Introduction Since the first cases of HIV were detected among female sex workers (FSW) in Chennai, India in 1986, dramatic progress has been made in the last three decades in the battle against HIV both in India and globally (Mayer, 2011). Despite this progress, new infections continue to occur in 2012, there were an estimated 2.3 million persons newly infected with HIV globally (UNAIDS, 2013). Many new infections often occur within the context of a serodiscordant relationship an infected partner in a relationship transmits HIV to the uninfected partner. Over the past thirty years, several interventions have been identified to prevent HIV transmission from HIV infected persons to uninfected persons in serodiscordant relationships. Yet, transmissions continue to occur. Interventions such as voluntary counseling and testing, condom promotion, and risk reduction counseling are very effective in preventing transmission among serodiscordant couples but are underutilized in India despite their widespread availability (Kumar et al., 2011). Interventions such as pre risk exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and universal antiretroviral therapy (irrespective of CD4 count) have been newly identified but face several challenges that impede their widespread implementation in India (Kumar et al., 2011). Serodiscordant couples in India also face certain unique socio cultural issues such as marital and fertility pressure (Gupta et al., 2010). New guidelines published by the World Health ... • 3. The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay Introduction Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns, symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others. Methods The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These battles were fought not by soldiers, but by citizens whose rebellion allows Americans many of the freedoms they enjoy today. Religious tolerance, freedom for both sexes, as well as minority groups, and freedom of the press are just some of the benefits from these battles. This is not the only area in which he showed unusual respect for the Natives. In 1635 he was put on trial in Salem for harboring views which proved too radical for the locals there. One of the radical views Williams preached was that land should be bought from Natives, as opposed to being taken. In fact, after his trial, (and subsequent banishment), the land on which he founded Providence, Rhode Island was land he had purchased from the Narragansett Indians. Roger Williams helped shape America into the refuge it would become by creating a colony on principles of religious tolerance and equality regardless of race. While Williams was preparing a sanctuary for outcasts, a battle for equality was also being fought by future resident of Rhode Island, Anne Hutchinson. Anne Hutchinson embodied rebellion by promoting equality, which she did by working for the liberation of women, particularly in the religious field. Although entirely without formal schooling, like virtually every woman in her day, Anne Hutchinson had been well educated on her father s knee. Francis Marbury, a Cambridge educated clergyman, school master, and Puritan reformer, was her father. In the late 1570s, disagreements with Anglican authorities led to his censure, his imprisonment for several years, and his own public trial on a charge of heresy, the same charge that would be brought against his daughter, of refuting church ... • 6. Contract Transfer of Title to Real Property Essay What advice R.J. is likely to give Padrina depends predominantly upon whether she and Orande have an enforceable agreement. For a contract involving an agreement to transfer title to real property, as here, to be enforceable, more than offer, acceptance and consideration must be present. The contract must also comply with the Statute of Frauds. The Statute of Frauds requires that either the contract or some memorandum of it is in writing and that writing is signed by the party to be charged. The writing must also contain sufficient evidence of the contract s terms. Here, we are told to assume there is a contract. However, there is no mention or evidence that the contract is in writing. In many cases where the parties did not specify some terms, the courts will presume they intended to act according to a normative standard in the community. Here, the facts state the parties had a contract. So, we do not need to address the formation issues. The property description does not have to be a legal description if the evidence shows that, as between the seller and buyer, there was an understanding of which property was involved. Here, there is no legal description. But, there is no evidence Orande owned any other property known as CALIacre in Las Nachos. Therefore, this note probably meets the property description test. The note refers to the parties by name. So, it provides that term. The note refers to Orande s agreement to sell and Padrina s to buy CALIacre with the attached apartment. As a result, it provides evidence of their agreement to sell and buy. The notes state the price as $1,500,000. So, it meets that requirement. When, as here, the parties fail to state the terms of payment, courts presume payment is in cash at the time of closing. Here, the note refers to a mortgage amount and Padrina s having the rest of the money in cash. Therefore, a court would likely presume they intended a cash payment to Orande at the time of closing. • 7. Problems With Legal Aid In The Canadian Justice System The Rich Get Richer: Problems with Legal Aid in the Canadian Justice System In a 2007 speech by Beverly McLachlin, the Supreme Court of Canada Chief of Justice, she stated that access to justice promotes social stability and also that if people can t get justice, they will have less respect for the law (Eberts, 2013). By her words alone, the necessity and importance of legal aid is demonstrated. Socioeconomic status can put individuals at an unfair disadvantage in many aspects of life, especially in regards to legal proceedings. Legal aid [was] introduced to Canada in the 1970 s as a way of ensuring fair trial, and decreasing the frequency of common problems that result from misunderstanding of the law, unrepresented litigants and the power of money (Abell, 2010). However, like any tool or procedure used to improve society, there are always imperfections. Legal aid resources have become difficult to obtain financially and situationally, and the quality of this resource is often put into question. Without it, people and the justice system face consequences that need to be resolved in order to achieve the social stability that McLachlin speaks of. Access to Legal Aid Of the 717,850 Canadian legal aid applications in 2014/2015 only 466,923 were approved, this leaves 250,927 applicants with potentially no other option for legal representation (Statistics Canada, 2016a; Statistics Canada, 2016b). • 8. My Childhood At The Alemany Farmer s Market It has been years since I have gone to the Alemany Farmer s Market and walked down the wet concrete to look for fresh vegetables and fruits. As a four year old, I would wake up at exactly half past five every Saturday morning to get dressed in my warm jacket and make it to the farmer s market by six. I would hold my mom s hand and walk down the same exact wet concrete sidewalk, playing games with the ground, trying not to step on the cracks to keep myself busy. My mom would make small talk with the vendors, asking about their lives and how they were doing. She always got the best groceries, the ones hidden from the public. My favorite vendor was always at the very end of the market where we would get our flowers. Every Saturday I would run up to her booth with smile and the old Japanese lady would smile back and hand me a flower. The colorful murals and the smell of the greens and flowers brings back the fond memories of my childhood at the Alemany farmer s market as I walk down the wet concrete as a high school senior with a different mission in mind. Even though it is a little later in the morning and the market seems to be bustling with more people than I remembered, the familiar San Francisco fog and encouragement of my mother makes me feel like I had never stopped my Saturday tradition. Little green tents are set up at the entrance and beyond them are the separate booths and some more white tents. They have canvas tarp signs hanging at the top of the tents with the ... They argue that team members need to develop awareness of themselves and each other, and of their differences, through giving descriptive feedback. This allows appreciation of differences, good contact and improved communication. Trust, respect, team spirit and synergy may then emerge. Consequently this leads to a highly developed awareness. • 12. Second Circuit Conjunctive Analysis Essay Since Frank Lyon, the Circuit Courts have been divided on how to apply the two prong test of the economic substance doctrine. The inconsistency is reflected in the current and ongoing STARS transaction cases. Each circuit has chosen a different path pertaining to the test. The Second Circuit applies a flexible unitary analysis. The Federal Circuit applies a conjunctive analysis but takes a different approach from the Second Circuit in applying the objective prong of the test. The Eighth Circuit also applies the conjunctive test and also applies the objective prong differently. Finally, the First Circuit applies a disjunctive analysis. Alongside similar facts, the courts faced a common key question in analyzing the objective prong in the STARS cases: whether the relevant transaction created a reasonable opportunity for profit exclusive of the tax benefits claimed. BNY explicitly included the foreign taxes paid by the U.S. bank as part of the costs of the transaction, despite authority that both U.S. taxes and foreign taxes should be ignored in the evaluation of pretax profitability. However, BNY and Salem did not include income from the Bx payment in their analysis of profitability because they had characterized that payment as a tax effect. Santander took the opposite approach. It concluded that the Bx payment was not a tax rebate and therefore treated it as income for purposes of the profitability analysis, resulting in a determination that the satisfied the objective prong ... • 13. Essay about Mistaken Identity for Twelfth Night Mistaken Identity William Shakespeare, in his well known comedy Twelfth Night, creates a plot that revolves around mistaken identity and deception. Mistaken identity, along with disguises, rules the play and affects the lives of several of the characters. Shakespeare s techniques involve mistaken identity to bring humor, mystery, and complication to the play. Many characters in Twelfth Night assume disguises, beginning with Viola who is disguised as a eunuch, Maria who writes a letter to Malvolio as Olivia, and then the mix up between Sebastian and Viola are revealed. The instances of mistaken identity are related to many disguises in the play. Viola, who puts on male attire, begins to have everyone believe that she is a man. By ... Maria decides to lead him on by writing a letter, but means to be from Olivia. This love letter is meant to instruct Malvolio to do actions that Olivia despises. Maria is able to mislead Malvolio because she has the same print and seal as Olivia. Shakespeare is able to trick the characters and create many portrayals of them. The mistaken identity in this play is related to the prevalence of disguises in the play as Viola s male clothing leads to her being mistaken for her brother Sebastian. Sebastian is mistaken for Viola (or rather, Cesario) by Sir Andrew and Sir Toby, and then by Olivia, who quickly marries him. Meanwhile, Antonio mistakes Viola for Sebastian and thinks that his friend has betrayed him when Viola claims not to know him. While Viola is in a sword fight against Sir Andrew, Antonio is trying to be a loyal friend by taking the place of Viola, who he thinks is Sebastian. Antonio is not liked by Orsino s court, so he is then arrested and taken away. While this is happening, Antonio asks Viola for his purse back, which he gives to Sebastian. Viola becomes extremely confused and claimed not having his purse and being a close friend of his. Antonio takes this as deception and thinks that Sebastian, who is really Viola, is a coward. • 15. The Church Of King Henry VIII And The English Reformation The churches of the Anglican Communion have their historical roots in the English Reformation (Anglican History). The Anglican church originated when King Henry VIII split from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534 when Pope Clement VII refused to grant the king an annulment. The following overview derives from the New Catholic Encyclopedia. Henry VIII, the second s son of King Henry VII, was groomed for ruling the Church during his youth, with a broad education in theology, music, languages, and poetry. His elder brother was being prepared for the throne, but passed away from a sudden illness. Henry VIII took over as King, and became engaged to his brother s widow, Catherine of Aragon. Based on the Old Testaments ban on marrying the widow of your brother, King Henry VIII became concerned his marriage was cursed by God. He petitioned Pope Clement VII for a papal annulment, but the Pope immediately rejected the annulment. In 1531, he compelled the English clergy to accept him as head of the church of England, leading the Parliament to pass a series of laws depriving the Roman Catholic Church of any authority in England. King Henry VIII received the same legal authority over the English Church that the Pope operated over the Roman Catholic Church. Following this, Kind Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn, and split his church from the Roman Catholic Church, forming the original Anglican Church. The word Anglican originates from the ecclesia anglicana, a medieval Latin phrase that dates back to 1246. The Latin phrase means The English Church. The Church of England traces its history back to the 2nd century, when Christianity first arrived in Britain. The religion of Anglicanism believes that there is only one God, but there are three elements of the Divine: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Anglican theology tends to be biblical pastoral and apologetic, rather than dogmatic of confessional. The valid baptism in the Anglican religion is by water, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People baptized during infancy are expected to reaffirm their baptismal promise as they get older (Encyclopedia of Religion). Anglicanism is sometimes called the via media, the middle way, ... But he reads it silently, masking whatever emotion he might be feeling about his friends betrayal. Regardless of whether he is actually insane, Hamlet s rational behavior stands in contrast to the slow, puzzled demeanor displayed by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern stand in for humanity as a whole. Unlike real people, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern lack imaginative power and memory. For instance, Rosencrantz cannot imagine England. He tells Guildenstern that he cannot picture himself leaving the ship or speaking to the king. Rosencrantz cannot imagine the future. But neither he nor Guildenstern remembers who has the letter for the English king. They cannot learn from their mistakes, nor can they conceive of acting in any way other than what they have done before. Each moment exists separately from the one that came before or the one that is to come, so that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are constantly being surprised by their situations. ... • 33. The Third Largest Coal Ash Spill The third largest coal ash spill in United States history has left some citizens in North Carolina fearing their water is not safe to drink. This fear is a result of anywhere between 50,000 and 82,000 tons of coal ash and up to twenty seven million gallons of contaminated water being dumped into the Dan River in Eden, North Carolina on February 2, 2014. The spill was caused by a busted storm drain pipe that ran under an unlined coal ash pond at Duke Energy s Dan River Combined Cycle Station ( Duke Energy s Grievous ). Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal for energy and contains substances such as arsenic, lead, and mercury. These toxic chemicals are not only harmful to the environment but to the human population as well (Christian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coal ash that is buried underground still has the potential to seep into the neighboring water supply. Also, the high risk ponds will not be evacuated until 2019 and the low intermediate risk ponds as late as 2029. Subsequently, there will still be run off from these ponds polluting fresh water for the time being ( House, Senate Approve ). This settlement is not a win for residents surrounding these impoundments. Preventing seepage from coal ash ponds and completely removing the coal ashes away from fresh water is the only way North Carolinians will feel safe about their drinking water, no matter the proposed risk classification. For instance, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) handed out a Clean Water Act permit to the Duke Energy Riverbend coal ash site on Mountain Island Lake on the Catawba River which supplies water for Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Mount Holly, and Gastonia. This pollution discharge permit is supposed to protect Mountain Island Lake from harmful coal ash pollution coming out of the Duke Energy s Riverbend facility. In 2015, Duke Energy pleaded guilty to criminal coal ash pollution and was issued to remove the coal ash pond at Riverbend. The coal ash lagoons are scheduled to be ... In 2004, Szabo and Griffiths conducted a study on the importance of exercise for sport science students compared to general exercisers. They found that exercise addiction was twice as high at 6.9% than the rest of the population at 3.6%. Based on this data, it was concluded that exercise students were simply committed to their sports studies both personally and professionally (Szabo Griffiths, 2004, p. 27). Among athletes, exercise addiction was found in 52% of triathletes with 26% being male runners and 25% female runners (Berczik et al., 2012). Besides these sports, Krivoschekov and Lushnikov (2011) found addiction to exercise in those practicing sports such as martial arts, weightlifting, athletics, and bodybuilding. Addiction was also observed in people performing exercises for health. Individuals that did exercise purely for health were motivated by the rewards of weight regulations and good health (Lichtenstein, Larsen, Christiansen, Støving, Bredahl, 2014). Symptoms Licensed clinical professionals can assess the distinctiveness of exercise addiction by using assessment tools and clinically significant psychological indicators. The relatively new Pre Crime system allows the government to operate an elite police force, which with the help of three very talented and unique human beings can see into the future and prevent countless crimes, especially murders before they happen. In Philip K. Dicks s short story, The Minority Report, the world we live in is nearly infallible. With the reduction of violent criminal acts, people can live their lives in peace and prosperity without the fear of the pain and suffering, which usually accompanies violence. The shock and amazement that the individuals who Anderton though were behind an apparent plot to seize his job by framing him for murder, were in fact simply doing their jobs by pursuing him, leads the main character to uncover a plan where other previously benign forces were at play manipulating the situation at hand for their own personal gains. In the final moments of both narrations of the story, the somewhat ironic endings for those involved lead to the proclamation of Anderton s innocence and the punishment of those really attempting to manipulate the Pre Crime system for their own use. Although both Dick s and Spielberg s versions of The Minority Report were alike in many general ways, Spielberg s later interpretation of Dick s short story did deviate somewhat for its original context. Whereas Dick s version of the narrative pitted John Anderton, the director of Pre Crime against other corrupt elements of the government, Spielberg s version, had Anderton struggle with internal elements within his own organization which were trying to assure a safe future for the Pre Crime system. Furthermore, in Dick s story Anderton was actually being framed by an Army General, Kaplan, in an effort to prove that Pre Crime was faulty, which would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Pride And Prejudice Essay Pride and Prejudice: Marriage Essay written by Maria Engstrom Introduction For this essay, I chose to read the perhaps most famous book by the English author Jane Austen. During the reading I was thinking about which theme I should choose to write about and analyze, and eventually I felt that marriage was the central keyword in the book. I will concentrate on the situation of the daughters in the family, since these are the best described in the novel. My dealing with different ideals and problems within a marriage will be illustrated with examples from the text. Analysis quot;Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other, or ever so similar beforehand, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since money is so important, Wickham tries to elope with Georgiana Darcy only because of her fortune of £30,000 since the property of a woman automatically becomes the property of the husband in the marriage. Marriage was therefore a great security for a happy life since there was nothing like the social security, old age pensions or health insurances we are provided with today. quot;If you go on refusing every offer of marriage, you will never get a husband and I am sure I do not know who is to maintain you when your father is dead. quot; The sentence above is the quoting of Mrs. Bennet to Elizabeth after the refusal of Mr. Collins proposal. The statement reflects the situation for women in the novel and during this period. No professions (politics, university related etc.) were open for women of the genteel classes, so independence on the woman s hand almost never occurred. The only quot;profession quot; available was that of being a governess, which meant educating the daughters of a family, but this was a job with low working conditions and lowly paid. Therefore women had to marry their life into money, happiness and a secured future (if they did not by chance happened to inherit a large sum of money.) As Charlotte Lucas thoughts before accepting the proposal of Mr. Collins are pictured in the novel: quot;Without thinking highly either of men or of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Types of Family Structure Understanding Family The type of family structure I grew up in was very traditional and structured. The family was intact. Mom stayed home and dad went to work in order to make money to pay the bills. He was always the breadwinner, and mom was a stay at home mom who took care of the children and the house instead of working outside the home. Both parents were open minded, warm, and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of the children, the house, and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is being passed along to future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show how things can work out very nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the older ways of raising a family. Both parents do not always have to work for there to be enough money to survive (Mattox, 1990). It is possible for the mother to stay home, and if she has a lot of children it might actually be less expensive than paying for daycare (Forbes, 2005). If mom works but her entire paycheck goes for childcare expenses she has not gained anything. She has only lost time with her children (Forbes, 2005). While there are not as many moms who stay home today, there is nothing wrong with mom staying home and dad working. My parents were always happy with that arrangement and did not see the need to make changes. They were open minded enough to have made changes, though, if they had both wanted to or if there was ... • 41. Summary Of The Middle English Breton Lay Sir Freine The following close reading concerns itself with the Middle English Breton Lay Sir Degaré, though speculative, the poem s composition has been dated to the 14th Century and the poem survives in six manuscripts and three early printed editions, it is a romance of high antiquity, preserved in the Auchinleck MS. Some suggest that the poem takes clear inspiration from the Middle English translation of Marie de France s Le Fresne: Lay le Freine. Moreover, some propose that Sir Degaré is more accurately described as an emulation, believing it to be more an imitation made up from a variety of stories, as it borrows not only motifs but direct phrasing from Lay Le Freine. Not only do both texts share a similar rhyming scheme, rhyming couplets, and semi alliterative lines, they are also similar in relation to common genre conventions. In this respect, the Breton Lay has been understood by many to be the predecessor to the modern fairy tale, and indeed, Sir Degaré is enveloped in themes such as love, the supernatural, and critically, the correlation between the two constructs of gender, which themselves are manifested in the modern day fairy tale. The opposition is apparent between the two constructs of gender, man was glad a blithe , (joyful) (155) whereas the princess siked an sorewed swithe. (sickened and sorrowed) (156) This disparity underlines the attitudes that permeate this text, considering the atrocity that has occurred, it is sickening to comprehend. Alluringly, ... Any product that is displayed in a television commercial or magazine advertisement by a corporation that uses a celebrity or well known public figure to give a testimonial or information about the product, is practicing celebrity endorsement. She was dropped from her endorsements from large companies Burberry, H M, and Chanel, when photographs of her snorting cocaine surfaced in magazines and websites. Companies using a celebrity endorser take into account the serious consequences (loss of revenue, bad image) of putting a tainted face to their product since as stated above, the brand s whole personality is often dependent on the celebrity endorser. Another aspect that is taken into account pertaining to the effectiveness of the celebrity endorser is to directly measure the degree that the consumers evaluate the celebrity as genuinely liking the product that they are endorsing. According to Gilbert and Malone (1995), these evaluations are recognizable under a type of judgment called correspondent inferences. Correspondent inferences generally refer to a judgment that consumers observe the endorser s behavior in the advertisement to then infer consistent character in the endorser. For example, the consumer would observe an athlete saying he loves the breakfast cereal Wheaties, and then the consumer would infer that the athlete really does, in fact, like Wheaties. Adding to this study, McCracken (1986) suggests that a celebrity that best represents the appropriate symbolic properties of the product should be selected, thus, highlighting the importance of the cultural meanings of celebrities in the endorsement process. • 44. Superstitions in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by... Superstition In Huckleberry Finn multiple instances of superstitions arise and seem to be engraved in the culture, even the most utmost examples being rarely questioned and continually passed on from generation to generation like a hand me down. In modern society, superstition is one big mind game. Eventually, enough people are affected by these notions that they become evidence for others. In both modern day and in the late 1800s when the story of Huck Finn took place, superstition has been used as a cloak to explain events or occurrences that humans cannot or simply choose not to explain in a logical manner, oftentimes showing the illogical thinking and gullibility of a certain society. In the story, Jim is a runaway slave. Because many unfair things happen to slaves, superstition plays a more prevalent role in Jim s life. Jim uses superstitions to justify unfortunate events that happen to him, just accepting what had happened rather than investigating. In Chapter 10, Huck handles a snakeskin and Jim warns Huck that it would cause them bad luck. Later on, Huck finds another rattlesnake. Once Huck had killed the snake, he put it in the bottom of Jim s blanket, searching for a good laugh when Jim found it. It eventually attracted another snake that bit Jim when he crawled in. Huck never told Jim that he put the dead snake in his blanket. Jim then scolded Huck about handling the snake skin earlier Jim said he reckoned I would believe him next time. And he said that ...
