Plants breathe through tiny pores called stomata, mostly found on the underside of leaves and stems. During the day, stomata are open to take in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and release oxygen. At night, they are open to take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Fish breathe through gills, which are flaps rich in blood vessels located on either side of the head. The gills absorb oxygen from water and release carbon dioxide back into the water. Some plants like mangroves and mudskippers have adaptations to breathe in environments with low oxygen.
