Essay about Birth Order
Birth Order
Does being the eldest child make people highly intellectual, people pleasing, perfectionists? Are the
middle children always impatiently competing for parental attention by rebelling against the rules?
Are all last born children the spoiled, selfish, favorites? Birth order, a highly controversial topic, is
defined as the dynamics of an individual s place in the family compared to that of their siblings. Birth
order has been in a fiery discussion for over one hundred years; some say it s the very foundation of
each one of our personalities, while others claim that the margin of error is just too wide for these
coincidental patterns to bear any meaning.
Alfred Alder, the first to study birth order and the family dynamics that ... Show more content on

Another famous, or infamous, characteristic eldest tend to portray is that of selfishness (Murphy).
Born into a life of privilege and not having to share a single thing gives them their first dose of the
selfish trait. They are the receivers of the first time parent pampering love, and they are the first to
experience the confusion that accompanies the birth of a younger sibling. They are not used to having
to share everything; therefore they act as if they are the Alfa male to the new arrival, which also
explains the previously stated dominant trait that domino effects them into the role of the mentor.
One thing is for sure about eldest children: They are nothing like middle born children. Middle
children are dubbed as the outgoing, friendly, and loud sibling. All too often do they get lost in the
madness of the family dynamics and, in turn, develop a competitive nature. They are eager for their
parents approval and praise, but feel as if their older sibling received too much credit and their
younger sibling receives too little discipline compared to them (Neal). They are both teacher and
student, babysitter and babysat, too young for the privileges of the firstborn but too old for the latitude
given the last (Kluger).
Much could be said about the last born children because they seem to always fit the molded stereotype
of themselves. Their characteristics can be picked up on in a matter of minutes in a conversation; there

The Scottish and International Film Industry s Contribution to the Development of Scottish Identity in
the Last Part of the Twentieth Century
When people hear the word Scotland there is, as said by C McArthur (2003:59) Diverse images and
narratives right down to particular words and phrases that immediately come into their head . These
images may it be of tartan, misty landscapes, bagpipes or castles contribute to how Scotland is
portrayed and create what is known as a Scottish identity. There is a continuing debate on whether
Scottish identity actually exists or is it as argued by H T Roper 1 an Eighteenth Century invention . By
looking at films that have represented Scotland since the early 1930 s ... Show more content on

D Bruce explains that these stereotypical images represent Scotland (1996:6). These images have built
a picture of Scotland popular with tourists from all over the world.
When looking at films that represent Scottish identity the list is not exhaustive and although the
question is with regards to the later half of the Twentieth century there were films made early that also
made a contribution. These should be mentioned for example Bonnie Scotland (1935), The Face of
Scotland (1938), Whisky Galore (1949) and Brigadoon (1954). In more recent years there are again
several films to consider these include Rob Roy (1995), Braveheart (1995) Trainspotting (1996) and
Shallow Grave (1994). A review of a few of these films contribution to the development of Scottish
Identity follows.
In 1937 The Films of Scotland Committee was set the task of producing a series of films for the 1938
Glasgow Empire Exhibition, by Walter Elliot the then Secretary of State for Scotland. The prime aim
of the films was to promote the Scottish Nation. One of these seven* films was The Face of Scotland
(1938) The 14 minute black and white documentary set out to ask the question What and why is the
Scot? (Hardy 1990:44) by showing a brief history of Scotland with clips of Borders landscape, hills

Hip Hop And Hip Rap Music
The study of hip hop music has been cited well throughout its growth over time. The purpose of this
paper is intended to discuss hip hop culture and address cultural stereotypes associated with rap and
hip hop music, but also how its original lyrical intentions were forms of expression and art. It will
begin by guiding the reader through how it originated, its influence with the African Americans with
its subculture and popularity in urban areas, its styles of evolving, the introduction of hip hop and rap
to the public, the depiction it gave off with its criticisms from outsiders. An evaluation of hip hop
artists songs by Sugar Hill and the Gang, Run DMC, Queen Latifah, and N.W.A. Including lyrics from
the songs Rappers Delight , King of Rock , Latifah s Law , and Niggaz4Life . In the conclusion it
exposes how hip hop music is clearly for black Americans to express themselves freely and in fact did
not cause violence.
Hip hop cannot be understood by just examining how the artists might carry themselves or just their
lyrics alone. The uniting of hip hop in to society gave accommodations in an integrated generation of
young Americans and it changed the racial dynamics in the United States. Even though you might not
be born in the 70 s when hip hop was originated, it has become a part of our generation and has stuck
around ever since. This paper is written with the intentions to prove how the evolution of hip hop or
rap music has ultimately made America

Essay On Pestle Analysis Of British Airways
Executive Summary
I am going to undergo a PESTLE analysis on my chosen company (British Airways).
I am going doing this to look at the external factors affecting a business and what
advantages/disadvantages there may be and if it affects the company in the long term.
The results I have gotten from doing this are that there are many factors of a business that affects other
things such as the consumers and the environment, (for example, pollution affecting the environment
or noise pollution effecting the people). These factors may result in loss of profit or loss of customers
and cause problems within the company. I have also learnt there are many factors that a company must

Fletcher, N. (2016) Travel and tourism shares sink after Brussels attacks . A clear illustration referring
to the terrorist attacks at Brussels airport, leaving several people dead and hundreds injured. This led
to a decline of IAG (International Airlines Group) share price, by 1.5 per cent. These terror attacks
caused political crisis which has resulted in strict safety laws within the US and European skies. This
political crisis comes at a disadvantage and has affected British Airways as it has forced them to
cancel all flights to multiple destinations, including the Middle East, therefore also tying in with the
economic factors, causing them to lose money in the long term. Also, it has caused the public to
become more frightened to fly and would result in airlines having to lower the cost of the air fare in
order to convince people to fly to these destinations again.

There are many economical factors that could affect an airline company. Britain s decision to leave the
EU in the BREXIT vote has prompted a major fall in the value of the pound in comparison to the

The Long Way Home Analysis
The Long Way home was written by David Laskin, a passionate reader who graduated from Harvard
College in 1975 with a degree in literature and history. Laskin in recent years has been writing about
non fiction events in which people are thrown into situations they cannot control, such as war, horrific
weather, and genocide. In The Long Way Home, Laskin did not hold back details from the reader. His
focus on the details are what made the monograph so impactful, and with that, they give the reader a
very good sense of what these individuals in past time hardships had to deal with. The horrors of the
immigration boats, coming to an America that was nothing like they were told it was, and the
unimaginable mental destruction of war; All of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same year Meyer had also been enlisted just only five years after coming to America. Meyer s
experience on the front lines began when he was called in as a replacement for a man who bled too
much to keep fighting. He was now part of America s big offensive. His first night of active combat
consisted of old trenches and bomb shell torn land. There was little German resistance... There was no
other sign of life (pg. 250). That night there was harsh rains and no fires could be built. He spent the
night cold and wet, but he was alive. Epifanio s army life came differently in a sense. His division
early on in the summer had joined with British Forces. His fellow comrades kept talking about how
the front lines weren t so bad unless you were at Ypres. Turns out that s exactly where they ended up.
Laskin quotes a soldier I can t describe the awfulness of war ... As most men say, it is not war, it is
slaughter. Don t go near Ypres (pg. 230). Epifanio had it rough; He was amongst the toughest lines of
battle known amongst men at the time, and every combat soldier that thought they wouldn t see action,
did not get off easily in the autumn of 1918. Both men experienced hell, and while they were on
different fronts, they both shared a life known as a soldier s

The Importance Of Labeling Gmos
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are genetic materials; which have been altered through
biotechnology. Many crops sold around the world are genetically modified. GMOs undergo changes to
fit a specific purpose such as pest resistant crops. Despite the fact that GMOs are commonly used,
there has been many disagreements regarding whether or not they should be labeled. Although GMOs
have been deemed safe by the FDA they concluded that labeling GMOs are unnecessary, citizens
disagree and suggest GMOs should be labeled because labels provide benefits and also allow people
to have positive attitudes regarding GMOs; also not labeling GMOs infringes on an American citizen s
freedom and the labels could start a governmental public campaign ... Show more content on

In Consumers Call on FDA to Label GE Foods Colin O Neil feels that not labeling GMOs infringes on
an American citizens freedom. Colin O Neil argued that one choice Americans are not free to make is
whether their food contains genetically engineered ingredients based on the fact that the FDA is not
required to label GMOs (O Neil 31). Back in 1992 the FDA issued a policy statement that GE foods
were not materially different from non GE foods and thus did not need to be labeled (O Neil 31);
Colin O Neil rebutted We as consumers no longer base our decisions solely on what we can see or
taste or smell, so why should the FDA continue to do so? (O Neil 32) The FDA believed that GE foods
were the exact same as non GE foods and did not need any labels because the consumer could not tell
the difference. O Neil wanted to change the FDA s stance on labeling because 90 percent of
Americans want GE foods to be labeled and consumers do not expect food to be genetically
engineered absent labeling (O Neil 32) even with a great portion of American citizens wanting labels
the FDA still insisted that there was no need despite the fact it is the duty of the FDA to protect
consumers. The FDA s stance on labeling GMOs affects the American consumer because they cannot
make the decision whether or not to purchase an item containing GMOs thus forcing them to consume
something that contained a substance

What Was The Trials Of The Salem Witch Trials
An important event in the history of America, Salem s Witch Trials in 1692, were attributed to
fourteen women and five men, being hanging because they were charged for witches . In addition, a
man was squeezed to death for being guilty ; At least eight people were killed in prison, including a
child and a child; More than 150 people are arrested for trial. For the survival of major documents,
registers, depositions and official decisions, the main events, documents, arrests, judgments and
executions are known. They learned to search for witch hysteria . The proposals to show witchcraft are
numerous and contradictory. On January 20, 1692, in the village of Salem, nine year old daughter of
Samuel Parris, Elizabeth, and eleven year old niece, Abigail Williams began to exhibit strange
behavior, including screaming, blasphemous and tranches. Finally, Parris called a local doctor,
William Griggs, who has found a girl having hallucinations and ran around the room barking like
dogs. The doctor is confused and does not explain the medical definition, but suggests that it can be
the work of the evil forces. Paris held consultations with the local minister and he will wait to see
what happened. But, the rumors of the unexplained crisis spread urgently in the village of Salem, and
soon a few other young women, including three from the house of Thomas Putnam, showed similar
behavior. To be quick to explain what or who has led their behavior, the girls named three witches in

Partisan Media Analysis
The article begins by explaining the main purpose for the research inquiry. If this recent election has
proven anything, it is that there is vast wealth of election coverage. Citizens can now access political
information, and news coverage from almost anywhere through a variety of mediums. This increased
access has opened a new dimension. Partisan media effects have been researched in the past.
However, this article points out that there is a lack of inquiry on the timing of partisan media influence
during the election cycle.
A common mistake that occurs during past research is the assumption that partisan media effects are
static. This however, is not the case. The article points towards an evolving and dynamic media effects

This shows a diminishing return effect. More exposure repeatedly reduces the effect. These two
referenced influences set the stage for the following research designs.
The two surveys utilized data from the National Annenberg Election Study. The data was retrieved
using Internet and telephone collection methods. An advantage to this method was the utilization of
two pools of sampling. The pools were each collected from the Internet, and one telephone. Also, the
author used already available data. This significantly reduced the time and financial strain that a
survey could take up. The sample was collected through random digit dialing and availability to the
Internet. This adds to the reliability of the results. Traditional phone surveys use a set list of phone
numbers. This would exclude those who have private or unlisted numbers. This problem is avoided
with random digit dialing. The surveys were conducted during four different waves. The waves were
from winter, spring, summer, and fall waves. The winter wave resulted in 19,190 respondents. The
spring wave resulted in 17, 747 interviews. The summer wave included 20,052 interviews. The fall

Genji is the main character in a Japanese classical work The Tale of Genji , which is considered the
world s first psychological novel written by Japanese novelist Murasaki Shikibu during the Heian
period. Using extended prose narrative, Murasaki Shikibu portrays Genji s romances, usually tragic,
with different women in his life.
Among all the women Genji has a romance with, there are three special women, Fujitsubo Lady,
Yugao and Murasaki, he shows great love to. Fujitsubo Lady, with a high status and resembles Genji s

spend extra time with Aoi and impelled him to search for alternative women especially those who are
more submissive and docile. Genji s encounter with Yugao made him find an ideal woman who is
submissive enough. According to Genji, Yugao is extremely submissive, willing to accept whatever he
might do (Page67) and she had clung to him all day long with a timidity that he found touchingly
childish (Page71). He found Yugao is much different from his current wife Aoi who is always cold

The Impermanence of Knowledge
That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow. Consider knowledge
issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge.
Knowledge is defined as justified true belief . The concept of justified true belief states that in order to
know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one
must also have justification for doing so . New knowledge is based on the credible theories,
generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory observation are
inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we see and hear is
coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence, new knowledge
depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees hears which are
again dependent on the observers beliefs and values and also on the bias of the individual / society in
deciphering the same. To what extent is the discarding of the existing knowledge justified by an
individual/ society? While we see that the new knowledge is important, discarding of the existing
knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at large. We shall consider the
above knowledge issue in ethics natural science by studying the new knowledge received on
Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in astrophysics through emotion,
perception and reason.

The Controversy Surrounding Genetically Engineered Foods...
Food Biotechnology
There is much controversy surrounding genetically engineered (GE) foods and the use of
biotechnology. However, they offer many scientifically proven advantages that could have a dramatic
impact on world hunger and our environment in the near future. At the same time, the public is asking
many good questions and raising concerns about what long term negative effects genetically
engineered foods may have on the population s health and the environment. Never the less, based on
the following list, the advantages biotechnology currently provides, seems to out way the potential
disadvantages they could impose on our future.
Advantages of Biotechnology:
1. Genetically engineered fruits and vegetables provide extended shelf lives, which allow farmers to
harvest them at the peak of flavor and nutrition. The result is a better quality product, which is
produced with less waste, can be transported farther for sale and provides more profits for farmers. (1,
3)
2. Using a strategy called biofortification; scientists are able to genetically alter crops to fortify
themselves with key vitamins and minerals versus having to fortify them during the food processing
phase. The long term success of biofortification could effectively eliminate nutrient deficiency
diseases around the world. (1)
3. Foods can be processed more efficiently when they are genetically engineered. Production elements
themselves can be genetically engineered, which can saves time, money and space.

start painting until he was 27. Van Gogh shot himself 10 years after starting his career. In those 10
years van Gogh created more than 2,000 pieces of art. The first two years of van Gogh s career he was
self taught and learned by copying other artists work. He later moved to Paris, then the Netherlands,
Belgium, and back to France. During these years van Gogh experimented with many different themes
in his art. He started with copying prints and then progressed to landscapes. During the winter of 1884
he painted a series of present life. Van Gogh is most know for his still life portraits and his nature
portraits which he composed while in Arles, France. It is here that he had a mental breakdown and was
hospitalized for slicing his ear. After recovering van Gogh continued to paint and even used the term
sung a lullaby with color when describing his paintings. Color was a main factor in all of van Gogh s
work and important to him as he believed that one should learn to paint in black and white before
moving on to color. For this lesson students will focus on van Gogh s use of colors throughout his
career. Van Gogh was very good at using complimentary colors to make objects and scenes stand out.
Complimentary colors are colors directly opposite of each other on the color wheel. This technique
brings attention to the object by making a drastic difference in color. Children often are drawn to this
style of art for its vibrant colors. The two paintings today will draw interest because of bold use of

A Realist Look
The End of St. Petersburg: A Realist Look
Two years ago, I made my first film. It was called Freelance and I wanted to make a more realistic
looking film. I don t like quick cutting or jump cuts. So, I wanted to have longer takes, pans, and
medium shots. I would only use close ups only when it was necessary. I always felt that having too
much cutting in a film, jump cuts, and too many close ups took away from the viewer. I felt that it
wouldn t leave any room for development and give the audience an unsatisfied understanding of the
characters development. Too much cutting would still allow you to watch the whole story, however it
would not let you question any motives or even allow you breathing space to compile all the things

This is where they manipulate the audience and thus preventing them from formulating their own
meanings. As for Realism, the materials in reality should be able to speak for themselves. Realists
strive mainly for allowing the audience to interpret their work in their own ways, by allowing
abstractions, questions, or interpretations to come out. This is accomplished by intentional ambiguity
and not emphasizing any specific aspects of their film. Realists achieve and rely heavily on
cinematography, not editing, or doing so as little as possible. As for cinematography, that includes
long shots, wide screen, lengthy takes, deep focus, panning, craning, or tilting.
Realists allow the audience to make observations that they should make and opinions instead of being
guided by a filmmaker s desired reactions. However, a director should put his personal vision and
beliefs into his or her film but let the people decide what they think. As for me and my film Freelance,
I wanted to leave questions about the people that you see throughout the film. Was there a back story?
Do you feel like the character had some personality? And I left an open ending to my film. I used
everything that a realist would have for the cinematography. I left out as much as I could for editing. I
look back at the 1920s and 1930s films and I look at Vsevolod Pudovkin s The End of St. Petersburg
and I think to myself Wow, how far we have come to make better

Moderation Lab
Introduction
The problem with moderation is that only people in the films have perfect white teeth and people keep
paying millions with mouth or teeth surgeries to receive that irresistible smile. Unknowing of what
might give you that impeccable million dollar smile is frequently thought to be something surgery
could only do up, however this feat can be accomplished by brushing your teeth after every meal also
using mouthwash before and after you wake up. This experiment was created in order to test the truth
of what would happen if you where to eat or drink staining foods that could cause problems for your

Imagine a world without Tex Mex foods. People would not be able to go to Taco Bell anytime of the

Soviet Imperialism And The Soviet Union
The United States and the Soviet Union operated as associates and fought against the Nazi regime
during World War II, however, the merger did not last long and ultimately became the Cold War.
Americans had for some time been careful about Soviet socialism and worried about Russian pioneer
Joseph Stalin s overbearing, ruthless guideline of his own nation. As far as concerns them, the Soviets
loathed the Americans decades long refusal to regard the USSR as a real part of the universal group
and also their postponed section into World War II, which brought about the passing of a huge number
of Russians. After the war ended, these grievances aged into a staggering feeling of shared doubt and
animosity. After the war, Soviet expansionism in Eastern Europe drove numerous Americans fears of a
Russian arrangement to control the world. In the meantime, the USSR came to disdain what they saw
as American authorities pugnacious talk, arms development and the interventionist way to deal with
global relations. In such an unfriendly air, no single gathering was total to fault for the Cold War; truth
be told, a few history specialists trust it was unavoidable (History.com, 2009)
When the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, president George H. W. Bush through his secretary of state
James Baker promised Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev that in exchange for Soviet cooperation on
German reunification, the Cold War era NATO union would not increase one inch . Baker stated,

Homeschooling Is An Effective Education
Mahatma Gandhi once said There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a
virtuous parent. Homeschooling has evolved into a popular and fast growing alternative to traditional
schooling. In 2003, there was an estimated of 1.1 million homeschooled children, and in 2007
homeschooling had continued to grow to over 1.5 million. Opponents of the homeschooling method
argue that parents are not as qualified to educate their children as teachers are; therefore, their children
will not measure up to the academic level of traditionally schooled children. Additionally, they argue
that homeschooled children will not be on the same social level as children in regular schools and will
lack adequate social skills for the real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, other studies say that parents who home school are spending too much time with their kids
and are swaddling them. (Jeub) Homeschooling disproves all the arguments above. Jeub affirms that
parents are not their child s main educator, but their child learns independently because of his desire to
learn. No matter how qualified parents are, homeschooled children have proven to excel academically.
Also, homeschooling allows children to learn at their own pace. Every curriculum is designed for a
specific child. Individualized learning allows all children s needs to be met. Homeschooling gives
freedom to learn at their own level unlike public schools, where every child must learn a set
curriculum in order to keep up with the class. In response to the argument that homeschooled children
spend too much time with their parents, they actually have positive relationships with their parents and
other adults in the community. Instead of looking at adults as disciplinarians, many view adults as
their mentors as their jobs, other home school parents, or family friends. Lisa Revero adds that
homeschooling provides an environment for the family to learn and live together harmoniously and
frequently unlike a traditionally schooled family where spending family time is often rare. Life
revolves around jobs, endless carpools, sports games, and play practice, leaving little time for the
family to

Caitlyn Jenner Speech Analysis
Communication is a process that allows us to construct identities based on the interpretation and
intention of speech acts. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, spent most her life
identified by her master identity as a cis white male and until a few years ago she adopted the
interactional identity of a transgender female. In this paper, I will demonstrate how various forms of
speech acts build, remain and/or change the master and interactional identity of Caitlyn Jenner as well
as her relationships to others. To do so I will explain how Caitlyn Jenner seeks advice from her close
family member Scott Disick to help her understand the variety of speech acts coming from both her
private and public life: ranging from Scott who demonstrate face redress and accept her based on her
new interaction identity as a female, while also dealing with the face threats that come from those
(particularly males) who only see her as her previous master identity as a male. To start, in lines 1 and
4 Caitlyn seeks to understand the perspective that guy s have on her transition, in both lines she draws
out the word guy to emphasize her lack of understanding on how males think. She notes that she s
struggled with it (male s perspective) even though contextually she had the master identity of a male
the majority of her life, she has always struggled with the standards that come with that identity and
that still remains. Therefore, she seeks the perspective of a close male in her family to provide her
with that outlook. In contrast, Scott, who possess the master identity of a male and also accepts it as an
interactional identity chooses to influx and draw out the word me in line 7 in his account that not
every male will be comfortable with her change in identity because while he notes that he is
comfortable with her change in line 24, he also draws out the word every to signify that he is inferring
that male perspectives are not always homogenous and he does this by using an upward intonation of I
to highlight the contrast which is prevalent through his tone change between both words. Additionally,
in line 25, Caitlyn utilizes the example of Kris Humphries tweet that was an indirect face threat about

Enterprise content management (ECM) is the strategy of managing the content across an organization,
so that it can be retrieved from the database whenever it s required. These content can be structured or
unstructured and its very required for an organization for its smooth running of process(Xue Yahya,
2012). Below figure represents the steps involved in an ECM system of an organization.
Fig1.
Earlier the ECM systems were deployed in on premise systems with servers residing behind the
company firewall (ADOCS, 2015). Although it has the advantage of control of security, easy
integration, independent of internet etc. It was much costly particularly in maintenance and was very
time consuming for an upgrade or system expansion. The scalability options were limited and the size
of the document continues to increase and there the storage requirement.
To address all the above issues of an on premise ECM system, organization started opting for an off
premises deployment like in cloud. Cloud computing as defined by (Mell Grance, 2011) is a shared

Analysis Of Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1
FINAL HAMLET PASSAGE COMMENTARY ACT III, SCENE I, LINES 150 198 This specific
excerpt comes from Act III, Scene I of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It comes directly after Hamlet
s famous To be or not to be... soliloquy, and the character of Ophelia has just broken off her quasi
relationship with him while being spied on by King Claudius and her father Polonius. Although, at
first glance, Hamlet s aggression and Ophelia s lamentation seem to be caused purely by their
tumultuous breakup, Shakespeare includes key lines, motifs, and other literary devices that hint to a
deeper meaning in this passage. When considering these devices alongside Claudius and Polonius
attitude toward and treatment of Ophelia, the reader can see that this passage is not simply about
Hamlet s outburst at Ophelia. The motifs, structure, double entendres, and other devices used
throughout the passage highlight the negative treatment of Ophelia by the other characters and
ultimately foreshadow her eventual decline in mental health and suicide.
The passage begins with Ophelia crying out O heavenly powers, restore him! ... Show more content

Her soliloquy is filled with language surrounding the senses. This can first be seen when she says she
has suck d the honey of his music vows (III.i.165), a metaphor which combines the senses of taste and
hearing. The use of this metaphor can be tied into the motif of ears and hearing that runs through the
play, as Ophelia was tricked (poisoned, perhaps) by Hamlet s metaphorical music (his words). Ophelia
further details Hamlet s poisoning of her ears by saying she now sees the truth of the situation Like
sweet bells jangled, out of tune and harsh (III.i.167). This simile again compares Ophelia s difficult
situation with Hamlet to music, and the choice in diction to describe the bells as out of tune and harsh
reflects the harsh reality she must now

Dido and Camilla
Dido and Camilla Leaders Blinded by their Passions in the Aeneid
In Book I of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas observes a depiction of the female
warrior, Penthesilea, on the walls of Dido s temple. As Aeneas is looking
at this portrait, Dido enters the temple. Later in Book XI, as Camilla
walks through the carnage of battle, she is likened to an image of
Penthesilea returning home victorious. Virgil presents many such
similarities in his portrayals of Dido and Camilla because it is through
them, the only two female leaders in his work, that he illustrates the
destinies of rulers who fall victim to their passions. To Virgil, a great
leader is one who practices restraint, represses all passions, and ... Show more content on

She also had commanding power.
Venus describes how Dido was the captain of the entire escape venture.
Thus, it is Dido who is behind the founding of Carthage, a nation hard to
fight against in war. (I, 463) From a ridge above the city, Aeneas
observes Dido s Carthage for the first time:
Marvelous buildings, gateways, cobbled ways,
And din of wagons. There the Tyrians
Were hard at work: laying courses for walls,
Rolling up stones to build the citadel,
While others picked out buildings sites and plowed
A boundary furrow. Laws were being enacted,
Magistrates and a sacred senate chosen.
Here men were dredging harbors, there they laid
The deep foundation of a theatre. (Book I 577 585)
Carthage is a place of progress. Dido s subjects are engaged in building
her city s future political and defense systems. Under Dido s command,
Carthage is to be untyrranical and unconquerable. Dido and her subjects are
creating Carthage s potential future greatness. As Dido is engaged in the
building a great temple planned in Juno s honor, she is initially a pious
Queen who does not forget to make rich offerings to the gods. When Dido
first appears in the work, as she is walking towards her temple, Virgil
compares her to a goddess.
The queen paced toward her

Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne
In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of
Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his views
of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way. He
narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he focuses
on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H. Lawrence
effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion. Lawrence uses a
mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil. One example of how
Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you are a demon. A man must
be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence criticizes Hester by saying that
she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure. Even the best person in the world
would instantly fail just because of Hester according to Lawrence. He also states that The greatest
triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man:
especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as
he believes that adultery is one of the biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this
remark, conveys how he thinks that Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions.
Lawrence s mocking tone shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to
express Lawrence s dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences
to express the importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love.
in two different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never
find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short
sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too
accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to express
his thought efficiently and effectively.

  • 2. Essay about Birth Order Birth Order Does being the eldest child make people highly intellectual, people pleasing, perfectionists? Are the middle children always impatiently competing for parental attention by rebelling against the rules? Are all last born children the spoiled, selfish, favorites? Birth order, a highly controversial topic, is defined as the dynamics of an individual s place in the family compared to that of their siblings. Birth order has been in a fiery discussion for over one hundred years; some say it s the very foundation of each one of our personalities, while others claim that the margin of error is just too wide for these coincidental patterns to bear any meaning. Alfred Alder, the first to study birth order and the family dynamics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another famous, or infamous, characteristic eldest tend to portray is that of selfishness (Murphy). Born into a life of privilege and not having to share a single thing gives them their first dose of the selfish trait. They are the receivers of the first time parent pampering love, and they are the first to experience the confusion that accompanies the birth of a younger sibling. They are not used to having to share everything; therefore they act as if they are the Alfa male to the new arrival, which also explains the previously stated dominant trait that domino effects them into the role of the mentor. One thing is for sure about eldest children: They are nothing like middle born children. Middle children are dubbed as the outgoing, friendly, and loud sibling. All too often do they get lost in the madness of the family dynamics and, in turn, develop a competitive nature. They are eager for their parents approval and praise, but feel as if their older sibling received too much credit and their younger sibling receives too little discipline compared to them (Neal). They are both teacher and student, babysitter and babysat, too young for the privileges of the firstborn but too old for the latitude given the last (Kluger). Much could be said about the last born children because they seem to always fit the molded stereotype of themselves. Their characteristics can be picked up on in a matter of minutes in a conversation; there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The results I have gotten from doing this are that there are many factors of a business that affects other things such as the consumers and the environment, (for example, pollution affecting the environment or noise pollution effecting the people). These factors may result in loss of profit or loss of customers and cause problems within the company. These terror attacks caused political crisis which has resulted in strict safety laws within the US and European skies. This political crisis comes at a disadvantage and has affected British Airways as it has forced them to cancel all flights to multiple destinations, including the Middle East, therefore also tying in with the economic factors, causing them to lose money in the long term. Also, it has caused the public to become more frightened to fly and would result in airlines having to lower the cost of the air fare in order to convince people to fly to these destinations again. Economical Brexit There are many economical factors that could affect an airline company. Britain s decision to leave the EU in the BREXIT vote has prompted a major fall in the value of the pound in comparison to the dollar and euro. Laskin in recent years has been writing about non fiction events in which people are thrown into situations they cannot control, such as war, horrific weather, and genocide. In The Long Way Home, Laskin did not hold back details from the reader. His focus on the details are what made the monograph so impactful, and with that, they give the reader a very good sense of what these individuals in past time hardships had to deal with. • 18. The Impermanence of Knowledge That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow. Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge. Knowledge is defined as justified true belief . The concept of justified true belief states that in order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one must also have justification for doing so . New knowledge is based on the credible theories, generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory observation are inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we see and hear is coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence, new knowledge depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees hears which are again dependent on the observers beliefs and values and also on the bias of the individual / society in deciphering the same. To what extent is the discarding of the existing knowledge justified by an individual/ society? While we see that the new knowledge is important, discarding of the existing knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at large. We shall consider the above knowledge issue in ethics natural science by studying the new knowledge received on Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in astrophysics through emotion, perception and reason. However, they offer many scientifically proven advantages that could have a dramatic impact on world hunger and our environment in the near future. At the same time, the public is asking many good questions and raising concerns about what long term negative effects genetically engineered foods may have on the population s health and the environment. Never the less, based on the following list, the advantages biotechnology currently provides, seems to out way the potential disadvantages they could impose on our future. Advantages of Biotechnology: 1. Genetically engineered fruits and vegetables provide extended shelf lives, which allow farmers to harvest them at the peak of flavor and nutrition. The result is a better quality product, which is produced with less waste, can be transported farther for sale and provides more profits for farmers. (1, 3) 2. Using a strategy called biofortification; scientists are able to genetically alter crops to fortify themselves with key vitamins and minerals versus having to fortify them during the food processing phase. The long term success of biofortification could effectively eliminate nutrient deficiency diseases around the world. (1) 3. Vincent van Gogh had a short career of only 10 years. Being born in 1853 he did not start painting until he was 27. Van Gogh shot himself 10 years after starting his career. In those 10 years van Gogh created more than 2,000 pieces of art. The first two years of van Gogh s career he was self taught and learned by copying other artists work. He later moved to Paris, then the Netherlands, Belgium, and back to France. During these years van Gogh experimented with many different themes in his art. He started with copying prints and then progressed to landscapes. During the winter of 1884 he painted a series of present life. Van Gogh is most know for his still life portraits and his nature portraits which he composed while in Arles, France. It is here that he had a mental breakdown and was hospitalized for slicing his ear. • 26. Soviet Imperialism And The Soviet Union The United States and the Soviet Union operated as associates and fought against the Nazi regime during World War II, however, the merger did not last long and ultimately became the Cold War. Americans had for some time been careful about Soviet socialism and worried about Russian pioneer Joseph Stalin s overbearing, ruthless guideline of his own nation. As far as concerns them, the Soviets loathed the Americans decades long refusal to regard the USSR as a real part of the universal group and also their postponed section into World War II, which brought about the passing of a huge number of Russians. After the war ended, these grievances aged into a staggering feeling of shared doubt and animosity. After the war, Soviet expansionism in Eastern Europe drove numerous Americans fears of a Russian arrangement to control the world. In the meantime, the USSR came to disdain what they saw as American authorities pugnacious talk, arms development and the interventionist way to deal with global relations. In 2003, there was an estimated of 1.1 million homeschooled children, and in 2007 homeschooling had continued to grow to over 1.5 million. Opponents of the homeschooling method argue that parents are not as qualified to educate their children as teachers are; therefore, their children will not measure up to the academic level of traditionally schooled children. Additionally, they argue that homeschooled children will not be on the same social level as children in regular schools and will lack adequate social skills for the real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, other studies say that parents who home school are spending too much time with their kids and are swaddling them. (Jeub) Homeschooling disproves all the arguments above. Jeub affirms that parents are not their child s main educator, but their child learns independently because of his desire to learn. No matter how qualified parents are, homeschooled children have proven to excel academically. Also, homeschooling allows children to learn at their own pace. Every curriculum is designed for a specific child. Individualized learning allows all children s needs to be met. Homeschooling gives freedom to learn at their own level unlike public schools, where every child must learn a set curriculum in order to keep up with the class. In response to the argument that homeschooled children spend too much time with their parents, they actually have positive relationships with their parents and other adults in the community. Instead of looking at adults as disciplinarians, many view adults as their mentors as their jobs, other home school parents, or family friends. Lisa Revero adds that homeschooling provides an environment for the family to learn and live together harmoniously and frequently unlike a traditionally schooled family where spending family time is often rare. • 28. Caitlyn Jenner Speech Analysis Communication is a process that allows us to construct identities based on the interpretation and intention of speech acts. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, spent most her life identified by her master identity as a cis white male and until a few years ago she adopted the interactional identity of a transgender female. In this paper, I will demonstrate how various forms of speech acts build, remain and/or change the master and interactional identity of Caitlyn Jenner as well as her relationships to others. To do so I will explain how Caitlyn Jenner seeks advice from her close family member Scott Disick to help her understand the variety of speech acts coming from both her private and public life: ranging from Scott who demonstrate face redress and accept her based on her new interaction identity as a female, while also dealing with the face threats that come from those (particularly males) who only see her as her previous master identity as a male. To start, in lines 1 and 4 Caitlyn seeks to understand the perspective that guy s have on her transition, in both lines she draws out the word guy to emphasize her lack of understanding on how males think. She notes that she s struggled with it (male s perspective) even though contextually she had the master identity of a male the majority of her life, she has always struggled with the standards that come with that identity and that still remains. Therefore, she seeks the perspective of a close male in her family to provide her with that outlook. In contrast, Scott, who possess the master identity of a male and also accepts it as an interactional identity chooses to influx and draw out the word me in line 7 in his account that not every male will be comfortable with her change in identity because while he notes that he is comfortable with her change in line 24, he also draws out the word every to signify that he is inferring that male perspectives are not always homogenous and he does this by using an upward intonation of I to highlight the contrast which is prevalent through his tone change between both words. Additionally, in line 25, Caitlyn utilizes the example of Kris Humphries tweet that was an indirect face threat about her transition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Analysis Of Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1 FINAL HAMLET PASSAGE COMMENTARY ACT III, SCENE I, LINES 150 198 This specific excerpt comes from Act III, Scene I of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It comes directly after Hamlet s famous To be or not to be... soliloquy, and the character of Ophelia has just broken off her quasi relationship with him while being spied on by King Claudius and her father Polonius. Although, at first glance, Hamlet s aggression and Ophelia s lamentation seem to be caused purely by their tumultuous breakup, Shakespeare includes key lines, motifs, and other literary devices that hint to a deeper meaning in this passage. When considering these devices alongside Claudius and Polonius attitude toward and treatment of Ophelia, the reader can see that this passage is not simply about Hamlet s outburst at Ophelia. The motifs, structure, double entendres, and other devices used throughout the passage highlight the negative treatment of Ophelia by the other characters and ultimately foreshadow her eventual decline in mental health and suicide. The passage begins with Ophelia crying out O heavenly powers, restore him! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her soliloquy is filled with language surrounding the senses. This can first be seen when she says she has suck d the honey of his music vows (III.i.165), a metaphor which combines the senses of taste and hearing. The use of this metaphor can be tied into the motif of ears and hearing that runs through the play, as Ophelia was tricked (poisoned, perhaps) by Hamlet s metaphorical music (his words). Ophelia further details Hamlet s poisoning of her ears by saying she now sees the truth of the situation Like sweet bells jangled, out of tune and harsh (III.i.167). This simile again compares Ophelia s difficult situation with Hamlet to music, and the choice in diction to describe the bells as out of tune and harsh reflects the harsh reality she must now ... Dido and Camilla Dido and Camilla Leaders Blinded by their Passions in the Aeneid In Book I of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas observes a depiction of the female warrior, Penthesilea, on the walls of Dido s temple. As Aeneas is looking at this portrait, Dido enters the temple. Later in Book XI, as Camilla walks through the carnage of battle, she is likened to an image of Penthesilea returning home victorious. Virgil presents many such similarities in his portrayals of Dido and Camilla because it is through them, the only two female leaders in his work, that he illustrates the destinies of rulers who fall victim to their passions. To Virgil, a great leader is one who practices restraint, represses all passions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also had commanding power. • 37. Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his views of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way. He narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he focuses on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H. Lawrence effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion. Lawrence uses a mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil. One example of how Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you are a demon. A man must be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence criticizes Hester by saying that she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure. Even the best person in the world would instantly fail just because of Hester according to Lawrence. He also states that The greatest triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man: especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as he believes that adultery is one of the biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this remark, conveys how he thinks that Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions. Lawrence s mocking tone shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to express Lawrence s dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences to express the importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love. in two different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to express his thought efficiently and effectively. ...
