Competitive Advantage Vs. Competitive Strategy
C. Competitive Advantage Related Theory Competitive strategy is the moves and methods that the
firm has taken and is taking to appeal buyers, improve its market position, and to endure competitive
pressures. The strategy is about what a firm s capability to try to knock off competitors and attain
competitive advantage, which can be offensive or defensive. There are three approaches to
competitive strategy, which are low cost leadership strategy where struggling to be the overall low
cost manufacturer in the in industry. Moreover, pursuing to distinguish one s product offering from
competitors (differentiation strategy), and the last one is focus or niche strategy where aiming on thin
portion of the market rather than the whole market (Porter, 1998). There are also some risks for each
strategy. Upholding cost leadership can be risky because of the requirement of frequent capital
investment to sustain cost advantage, then cost surges narrow price differentials and diminish ability
to compete with other s brand royalty. Differentiation strategy has some threats, such as imitation
decreases alleged differentiation, buyers need for differentiation falls. Meanwhile, the risks for focus
or niche strategy are the differences in preferred products or services between the strategic market and
target as a whole narrows, the cost discrepancy between wide ranged competitors and the focused
firms broadens to eradicate the cost advantages of allocating a narrow target or to offset the

Jeff Harold The Future
The first piece of art we will be looking at was done by Jeff Harold. It is called The Future and is a
black and white photograph taken on 2015. It is 19.5 inches by 13 inches displayed in the gallery at
The College of Lake County. The back and white photo is of what appears to be either a bridge or
possibly train tracks which is centered in the photo. The perspective of the photograph is from under
the bridge looking down the length of it. The bridge is resting on a cement path the fallows the bridge
out into what seems to be water and fog which appears on either side of the cement path. This work is
a great example of lines, because it has many going various directions. All of the lines I m about to

horizontal and smaller, the the rectangles under are all larger and vertical. The colors within these
rectangles are not a flat color. They color is sponged on with varying hues of the same color creating a
marbled appearance utilizing tones and shades to create this look. The colors are muted. Some of the
colors within these paintings are pink, yellow, purple, red, brown, white, gray, and teal. However, the

Success And The Downfall Of Brands
Success and the Downfall of Brands Having positive brand awareness and recall is essential for
building a strong brand. Being able engage the target market with the brand is also a basic quality that
all strong brands have accomplished. After all, if the consumers won t buy or need the product of
service, how will success be possible? Apple, Ikea and Twitter have strong brands due to their
demonstration of these qualities.
In 2015 Apple observed a 43% growth, making it one of the top rising brands. (Interbrand). Much of
Apple s success can be linked directly to the quality of their products and creating a unique customer

experience, and best of all, its affordable! Due to their approach to business Ikea is The world s largest
furniture retailer by sales (Mollnos). Ikea s furniture allows room for creativity within the space being
designed. Their affordable prices are ideal for the average consumer. Ikea has a fruitful way to bring in
a younger crowd based on the success of their Instagram account. The account shows rooms
transformed from dull and cluttered to organized and inviting. Being able to view real average people
who have transformed their homes with affordable, modern furniture is an excellent move for Ikea.
When shopping at an Ikea store, the products displays are meaningful and products that coordinate are

Hayeks Contribution to the Business Cycle Essay
Hayeks Contribution to the Business Cycle
Friedirch August von Hayek was born in Vienna on May 8, 1899 and died on March 23, 1992, in the
city of Freiburg in Breisgan in Germany. Hayek was a central figure in 20th century economics and he
represented the Austrian tradition. After Hayek served military service, he became a student at the
University of Vienna where he got his doctorate in law and political science. In 1923 4, Hayek visited
New York and then returned to Vienna where he continued his work. Hayek became the first director
of the Austrian Institute for Business Cycle Research in 1927. He also gave some lectures in England
at the London School of Economics in 1931. In England, he participated in such debates as monetary,

He showed how sudden injection of credit into economy could cause changes in the relative prices
between goods and lead to overinvestment that cannot be maintained. When money and credit vary, it
sets up a train of events which draws resources into places where they would not normally go. In
particular, an increase in credit stimulates investment (Butler, 8). Thus, Hayek shows that it is a
response to the false signal of new credit being created, and therefore this investment cannot be
maintained.
Hayek concentrates on the initial disturbance that starts a cycle. It is used to create new bank credit in
the shape of unwarranted advances to enterprises. He considers money (credit) as a factor to explain
the cycle theory.
The elasticity of the money supply (MV) is what allows and facilitates the disequilibria of business
cycles. By expanding the currency, malinvestments in capital are generated, which are not productive
enough to be maintained (Haney, 681).
Having said this, Hayek makes two points here. He talks about voluntary saving and enterprisers
anticipation of rising prices. The former is concerned with the changes in capital structure brought
about by changes in the volume of money. It is the difference between voluntary saving and the
creation of new credit currency by banks. In particular, Hayek describes the self reversing real effects
of credit expansion. He states

Visual Merchandising in Retail
Visual Merchandising in Retail For this assignment I have been asked to describe how visual
merchandising is applied to the three selected retail outlets to an identified range of goods. Store one
Tesco Merchandising techniques In Tesco the merchandising techniques they use are: Senses. A
supermarket like Tesco would use this technique to try and bring more customers into the store by
using smell, sight, sound and taste. They would play music to try and attract people into the store, and
they would also have staff at the front of the store offering free samples to customers to try to try and
persuade them to buy the product. They would use lighting for an example for sight as it would draw

This technique influences customers to buy the products as they are usually by the tills and are
sometimes on special offer. Sales and discounts: Tesco uses this technique because it will influence
more people buy the product as it is cheaper. This is very appealing for the customer as it provides a
quick route for those who are shopping for bargains. This also keeps the customers looking at different
parts of the store as this link leads to the display of many of their products. Sales and discounts can
encourage so called trial and repeat purchases. Retailers can use special offers such as buy one get one
offers. Coupons are another way to encourage purchases by offering discounts on products. Free gifts
with purchase also encourage customers to purchase products and increase sales. Sales whether
advertised in the store, online, in newspapers or via some other medium will help get customers into
the store. Retailers can place sales signs in window displays as an incentive for customers to shop.
Store two Volkswagen car dealer One of the merchandising techniques Volkswagen use is lighting,
they use this as one of their techniques to make certain cars look more appealing to the customers, and
to also make the car look of a higher quality. Another reason they use lighting in the showroom is to

Introduction Of Sudden Cardiac Death
Introduction
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading cause of death in exercising young athletes. 1 Current
estimates of the incidence of SCD in athletes range from almost one in a million to 1:23,000 athletes
per year, while some subpopulations of athletes are reported at even higher risk with an incidence of 1
in 3,000. 2 Such deaths often receive more attention because of the youth of the victims and the
perception that physically trained athletes are healthy. 3 SCD is often a result of structural cardiac
abnormalities that can be detected through the use of pre participation physicals. 1 Pre participation
cardiovascular screening is the systematic practice of medically evaluating large, general populations
of athletes before participation to eliminate risk of SCD. 3 The National Athletic Trainers Association
(NATA) requires BOC (Board of Certification) certified athletic trainers to be educated, trained, and
evaluated in six major practice domains. 4 Prevention and clinical evaluation are two of the six
domains. The American Heart Association suggests that pre screening athletes can improve the
detection of cardiac abnormalities. 5 Athletic Trainers are increasingly required to be the health care
professionals administering pre participation physicals. Athletic trainers need to have clinical
competence such as knowledge and skill, and confidence in performing cardiac auscultations to
effectively detect cardiac abnormalities in athletes. The purpose of this study is

Thematic Comparison Of Literature Of Smart Cities
Thematic Comparison Of Literature
The recent years have seen a growing trend towards concentration in each country in major urban
centres. This fact constantly evolves and would place all of city infrastructure. Parallel to this
situation, there are problems in the various fields that determine the standard of living of a society
such as health, transport, and environment and caused concerns about their solution. Growing
urbanization and the serious economic and environmental challenges guide the creation of smart cities
as how to offer technological solutions. This option is designed to bridge the gap between supply and
demand as well as reduce the impact on the environment because of intense urbanization

Activity Sectors
The creation of a framework that can be used to characterize the way in which developed a smart city
and design initiatives that promote this growth opposes the view of some of the smart cities. The
researchers simply see it as smart urban centres which make better use of information and
communication technologies. Instead, the effort should focus on a broad and comprehensive approach
to improve the efficiency of city operations, citizens quality of life and the economy. The axes which
move the development framework and improving the smart city are the economy, people, governance,
mobility, environment and living.
The development of smart city requires managing a complex system of factors in the line of the above
axes. This is because everyone s dimensions give the actual value that is required to achieve the target.
The smart city is defined as a superset systems aimed at optimization of public and private city
systems. The processes leading to the improvement of urban business is

Summary Of Rudyard Kipling s The Great Gatsby Essay
They re there, there, there with Earth immortal
(Citizens, I give you friendly warning).
That the things that truly last when men and times have passed, they are all in Pennsylvania this
morning!
Rudyard Kipling 1. The Commonwealth They Served
The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning,
December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered in
the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station.
Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph
newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy.
During that week Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively
mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one
of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state
employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early 20th
century effort to improve its personnel management practices.
By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded
contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of
the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus,
and divisions make Pennsylvania

The Many Evils of Iago in Othello by Shakespeare Essay...
The Many Evils of Iago in Othello by Shakespeare
Iago is a man of jealousy, and he is proposing revenge against Cassio and Othello. He claims both
Cassio and Othello have seduced his wife, Emilia, a warm hearted, simple woman. He proposes, as
revenge of wife for wife, to put Othello into such a jealousy as judgement can cure (Jorgensen 59). We
know therefore from the start why Iago hates Othello . . . (Modern 3). Iago s hatred for the Moor is
deep, and there is apparently reason. The Ten Commandments teach us to love thy neighbor and to not
steal. It seems that Othello has in a sense broken both those rules, or at least that is what Iago wants us
to believe. By trying to seduce Emilia he is not loving thy neighbor, and he ... Show more content on

Iago believes that he can exploit signs and forms from the outside while remaining..unscathed by the
consequent mystification (Eagleton 69). Iago s plans are carried out by causing sexual jealousy. The
successes of his plans depend on his pose of unswerving honesty a pose which none of the other
characters, not even his wife, is able to penetrate (Scragg 52). The other people involved in Iago s plan
have no idea what is about to happen to them. Iago uses their ignorance to destroy all of them. All are
oblivious of the false mind behind the honest mask and of the many specific machinations by which
they are victimized (Evans 116). Even though Iago is accused of all these evil deeds, that are not
revealed until the end of the play, it can still be reduced to look like a minute act. Iago can be reduced
to a resourceful intriguer who exposes the hero s weakness to ridicule and devises an appropriate
punishment, says Mehl in Shakespeare s Tragedies: An Introduction. In order to first fool Othello,
Iago must victimize several other people. Iago s success in fooling Othello is but the culmination of a
series of such betrayals that includes the duping of Roderigo, Brabantio, and Cassio. Each duping is
the explanatory image of the other, for in ever case Iago s method and end are the same: he plays on
and teases to life some hitherto controlled and concealed dark passion in his victim. In each case he

Analysis Of The Poem Dream Deferred
Pursuing Dreams
The overall meaning of this poem is about the consequences of not pursuing your dreams. For some
this can be a horrible thing while for others, it can be a blessing in disguise. The poem begins with a
simple question, What happens to a dream deferred (line 1)? What occurs when an individual goes in
another direction from a goal or ambition they had once desired? Does it cause a weight to be lifted?
Does it cause fear and anxiety? This poem focusing on the consequences or benefits that are the result
of a dream that goes unachieved. The speaker lays out the possible different outcomes that would
occur when someone gives up on their dreams. The first of the possible scenarios is listed as Does it
dry up / like a raisin in the sun (lines 3 4)? The dream begins as a youthful, ambitious goal for life.
This goal slowly begins to fade as the person ages. Whether this is due to shifts in priorities or
unforeseen circumstances, things have changed over time. A dream that once seemed to be very
achievable is now nothing more than a small memory in the back of ones mind. The metaphor that is
used here is a grape drying up to become a raisin, just like their dreams can shrink down into a
fraction of what they once were. The next scenario is a how a deferred dream can affect you a little
more harshly. The speaker asks, Or fester like a sore / And then run (lines 4 5)? The sore that is
mentioned can be thought of as more of a wound. It is not so much the result

South Park Michael A Chaney Analysis
The writer for the scholarly journal, Michael A. Chaney, is analyzing how race is shown in the TV

to fit with the formality of an educative journal. For instance, the writer supported their main point by
proving how Eric Cartman, the main character, is appropriating black culture through his voices and
actions. Moreover, the type of diction the writer chose were specialized words because they are trying
to appeal to an expert interests in the topic of race. As a consequences of their words, their tone of

Balancing Solidarity and Empathy
Going through life pathways you develop a sense of what you want to do with your time and with
your life so, it is asked what is more important to ones personal fulfillment furthermore, what
decisions and values are most important to you? Some believe that being in solidarity has more
advantages with getting tasks done than being around others for example, in the essay The Rewards of
Living a Solidarity Life author Mary Sarton explained that, Human intercourse often demands that we
soften the edge of perception, or withdraw at the very instant of personal truth for fear of hurting, or
being inappropriately present (42). Others argue that having empathy for others can be better for you
and for the world, in the memoir by author Azar Nafisi Mysterious Connections that Link Us Together
, says Through imagination and our desire for rappart we transcend our limitations, freshen our eyes,
and are able to look at ourselves and the world through a new and alternative lens (44). Balancing
alone time and working with others brings out the best in everybody and can be important for ones
personal fulfillment.
One of the arguments in personal relationships and having empathy for others is that empathy is
feeling that you understand and share another person s experience and emotions: the ability to share
someone else s feelings, for example Nafisi says I believe in the kind of empathy that is created
through imagination and through intimate, personal relationships (44). Some

The El Nino Southern Oscillation
Abstract The El Niño Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that
take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate
phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric
and oceanic conditions. El Niño, also known as the warm phase , is the first cycle that begins when
warm water in the eastern Pacific Ocean shifts to the west toward South America. During El Niño, the
east to west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant disturbances in the
biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La Niña is the complete opposite of El Niño. La Niña,
also called the cold phase brings unusually strong east to west winds and colder temperatures along
the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular atmospheric conditions
of the world; El Niño is linked to both droughts and floods, La Niña is linked to extreme tropical
cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have relationships to forest fires, economic
changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO is necessary in order to
attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and severity of this phenomenon
that occurs globally on average every two to seven years.

All speeches need to begin with an introduction, which you ve learned about in previous lessons. The
point of an introduction is to grab your audience s attention and provide an overview of what you re
going to speak about; in addition, your introduction needs to include a thesis statement: What point are
you arguing? All speech also need to end with a strong conclusion. The conclusion of a speech should
not simply summarize the main points. Instead, use your conclusion to convince your audience to take
action. Revisit the thesis in your conclusion: In light of the evidence you ve provided, why should
your audience now believe your thesis? Why is your opinion right ?
What happens in your speech between the introduction and the conclusion can vary. Two possible
models for structuring a persuasive speech include the following:
1. Problem/Solution: the first part of your speech explains the problem (More than 60 percent of

The Normalization of Rape in the Democratic Republic of...
Ruined by Lynn Nottage is a powerful play that narrates the nearly normalized issue of sexual
violence against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Nottage personally
traveled to the DRC and interviewed the victimized women and created a play that is based on their
stories. She composed a very powerful play that made its audience to become aware of tragic
situations that take place in African countries today. Throughout the play, Nottage brings the reader to
raise several questions, such as why did these vulnerable women become the target of violence and
what drives militiamen to commit these crimes rather than protecting them.
While war in the DRC already created unpleasant outcomes, such as poverty and corruption, it also
created cruel type of a weapon, humiliation and rape of women beside the guns and bombs. Meger
asserts in her article that the majority of the rape crimes involve gang rapes, with an average of 4.5
attackers per victim, and they also tend to be systematically preplanned (127). Women depicted in
Ruined are examples of rape victims. Salima s story in particular demonstrates how violent and
unforgiving it can be out in there. She was gang raped when she was in her garden and her attackers
even ended up killing her infant. Not only was she brutally assaulted, but also neglected and
abandoned by her husband and the village, which left her nowhere to turn to. Salima sees Mama Nadi

Some of the Victorian values that would have influenced George Eliot are the traditional family values
and the role of women in families and society. Women were expected to stay at home and look after
the family. They were not expected to work or do anything to displease their husbands. At the time,
George Eliot was writing her book, the industrial revolution was also taking place and economic and
class values were changing. England was going through a series of tumultuous cultural, social and
economic transformations.
This could be reflected in the seemingly robotic work Silas does. He weaves continually only to save
every penny into a box under his floorboards for him to count and worship.

What Is Racial Fetishism
From as early as the 1760 s, prostitution has been referred to by different names. French philosophers
used the word fetichisme, which loosely translated to mean primitive religion. Later, according to
Anne McClintock, Marx, in 1887, used the term commodity fetish which was believed to mean
primitive magic to express the idea of an economic side to the fetish, thus claiming it to be an industry.
McClintock goes on to explain that Freud evolved fetishism in to sexuality and finally into what is
known as erotic perversions. Later, religion combined the term sexuality and money, therefore
removing the primitive idea, making prostitution a racial and sexual degeneration (McClintock, 1992).
It is believed by certain scholars, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Examples Of Anglo Domination
Three examples of how Mexicans in New Mexico, California, and Texas resisted Anglo domination
from the documentary, The Latino Americans, is through the court systems in California, land
domination in New Mexico, and the battle of the Alamo in Texas. The first example of resistance
against Anglo domination is that of Mariano Vallejo, a Mexican elite who owned a 65,000 acre spread
of land in California where he made of living through grape vines and livestock. Furthermore, Anglo s
from the East were invading the West due to the gold rush. In addition, once the gold had been wiped

Eiland, L., Romeo, R. D. (2013). Stress and the developing adolescent brain. Neuroscience, 249, 162
171.
The adolescent phase is characterized by diverse and dynamic physiological and psychosocial
changes. One of the most integral changes, as elicited by the authors, is the response to stressors. With
specific regard to this stage, the author denotes that the stage is characterized by major shifts in HPA
(hypothalamic pituitary adrenal) axis reactivity that amounts to escalated induced hormonal reactions.
The author further explains that the factors that mediate such changes with respect to stress reactivity,
as well as the consequent impacts that they may have on an individual, are yet to be substantiated.
However, this literary research establishes that the stress sensitive cortical as well as limbic brain areas
that are always in constant growth, especially during this stage, are extremely vulnerable to the
changes that are prevalent. On the other hand, the perturbations with respect to the adolescent may in
turn contribute to heightened psychological dysfunctions inclusive of depression, drug abuse, and
anxiety.
The adolescent stage is faced with continued brain growth and maturity. These changes are intuitively
core in the emotional and physiological behaviors of adolescents. These authors establish that the
stressors that are pertinent during this developmental stage have an

Bigger Thomas is a fictional, 20 year old, Negro male living in Chicago during the Great Depression.
This character, created by Richard Wright in Native Son, became assigned with the job of giving

How Does Your Personality Shape Your Workplace Effectiveness
How does your personality shape your workplace effectiveness?
Introduction
Personality is an important trait which has an impact on the surrounding in your workplace. As a
manager, I believe that a workplace has several types of people who come from various religion, race,
country and cultural beliefs. Each individual need to be treated with respect and care, there issues need
to be addressed without neglecting and they should be given room for their own personal growth
within the organization. Personality is related to the culture being practiced in the organization. They
are directly proportional to each other. Culture needs to be initiated by the management and
employees follow it.
Effective management skills require managers to develop policies having the employees in mind,
along with this regular interval for employees and also trips can be organized for team building
purposes. Managers are known to have a good vision, interpersonal skill, technical skill and also
perception. As manager s, they need to understand their strengths and weaknesses by conducting
personality tests and follow certain practices to make their personality better in order to better deal
with employees. It needs a lot of dedication and commitment to be a good manager with pleasant
practices on a day to day basis. We as managers, need to remember that we are role models for the
employees in an organization and they look up to us to be a better person.

Pros And Cons Of Cochlear Implants
Cochlear Implant: Its Pros and Cons
Hearing loss is one of the most difficult disabilities you might face. It has many causes, such as birth
defect, loud noise, illness and accidents. Luckily, there are many ways to treat this condition, such as
hearing aids and devices, among which a very popular choice called cochlear implant.
A cochlear implant uses an electronic device that is surgically implanted within your ear, particularly
its canal. It is performed if you suffer from severe or worsening hearing loss. Essentially, the implant
replaces the function of your inner ear s hair cells, which help you register sound vibrations and when
damaged, are not able to function. While a cochlear implant will not give you back 100% of your
hearing ability, it is enough to allow you to hear and understand most sounds and communicate better
with other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It poses some surgical risks and complications.
You should know that surgery, in and of itself, always runs risks, and if you have any medical
condition prior to it, it may make things more difficult healing may be hindered or complications may
arise. Considering that cochlear implants require a surgical insertion, you should always talk to your
physician regarding your current and past health concerns. Surgery can also lead to numbness of the
surgical site, muscle spasms, minor facial paralysis or occasional facial numbness.
Even older adults who receive the implant might have permanent or temporary electronic conversion
complications in the brain, which are not painful nonetheless. Electronic signals might not register
fully, causing some hearing and speech hindrances.
Moreover, some people will have surgical complications or are found to be not compatible with the
device. Their body might reject the implant, which could require further surgery or removal. If the
device fails, patients will experience around the same level of hearing loss or deafness before until
repair is done.

It is 19.5 inches by 13 inches displayed in the gallery at The College of Lake County. After Hayek served military service, he became a student at the University of Vienna where he got his doctorate in law and political science. In 1923 4, Hayek visited New York and then returned to Vienna where he continued his work. Hayek became the first director of the Austrian Institute for Business Cycle Research in 1927. He showed how sudden injection of credit into economy could cause changes in the relative prices between goods and lead to overinvestment that cannot be maintained. When money and credit vary, it sets up a train of events which draws resources into places where they would not normally go. In particular, an increase in credit stimulates investment (Butler, 8). Thus, Hayek shows that it is a response to the false signal of new credit being created, and therefore this investment cannot be maintained. Hayek concentrates on the initial disturbance that starts a cycle. It is used to create new bank credit in the shape of unwarranted advances to enterprises. He considers money (credit) as a factor to explain the cycle theory. The elasticity of the money supply (MV) is what allows and facilitates the disequilibria of business cycles. By expanding the currency, malinvestments in capital are generated, which are not productive enough to be maintained (Haney, 681). Having said this, Hayek makes two points here. He talks about voluntary saving and enterprisers anticipation of rising prices. The former is concerned with the changes in capital structure brought about by changes in the volume of money. It is the difference between voluntary saving and the creation of new credit currency by banks. In particular, Hayek describes the self reversing real effects of credit expansion. He states ... Introduction Of Sudden Cardiac Death Introduction Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading cause of death in exercising young athletes. 1 Current estimates of the incidence of SCD in athletes range from almost one in a million to 1:23,000 athletes per year, while some subpopulations of athletes are reported at even higher risk with an incidence of 1 in 3,000. 2 Such deaths often receive more attention because of the youth of the victims and the perception that physically trained athletes are healthy. 3 SCD is often a result of structural cardiac abnormalities that can be detected through the use of pre participation physicals. 1 Pre participation cardiovascular screening is the systematic practice of medically evaluating large, general populations of athletes before participation to eliminate risk of SCD. 3 The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) requires BOC (Board of Certification) certified athletic trainers to be educated, trained, and evaluated in six major practice domains. 4 Prevention and clinical evaluation are two of the six domains. The American Heart Association suggests that pre screening athletes can improve the detection of cardiac abnormalities. 5 Athletic Trainers are increasingly required to be the health care professionals administering pre participation physicals. This reading was the lowest ever registered in the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station. Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy. During that week Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state employees. He claims both Cassio and Othello have seduced his wife, Emilia, a warm hearted, simple woman. He proposes, as revenge of wife for wife, to put Othello into such a jealousy as judgement can cure (Jorgensen 59). We know therefore from the start why Iago hates Othello . . . (Modern 3). Iago s hatred for the Moor is deep, and there is apparently reason. The Ten Commandments teach us to love thy neighbor and to not steal. The other people involved in Iago s plan have no idea what is about to happen to them. Iago uses their ignorance to destroy all of them. All are oblivious of the false mind behind the honest mask and of the many specific machinations by which they are victimized (Evans 116). Even though Iago is accused of all these evil deeds, that are not revealed until the end of the play, it can still be reduced to look like a minute act. For some this can be a horrible thing while for others, it can be a blessing in disguise. The poem begins with a simple question, What happens to a dream deferred (line 1)? What occurs when an individual goes in another direction from a goal or ambition they had once desired? Does it cause a weight to be lifted? Does it cause fear and anxiety? This goal slowly begins to fade as the person ages. Whether this is due to shifts in priorities or unforeseen circumstances, things have changed over time. A dream that once seemed to be very achievable is now nothing more than a small memory in the back of ones mind. The metaphor that is used here is a grape drying up to become a raisin, just like their dreams can shrink down into a fraction of what they once were. The El Nino Southern Oscillation Abstract The El Niño Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric and oceanic conditions. El Niño, also known as the warm phase , is the first cycle that begins when warm water in the eastern Pacific Ocean shifts to the west toward South America. During El Niño, the east to west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant disturbances in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La Niña is the complete opposite of El Niño. La Niña, also called the cold phase brings unusually strong east to west winds and colder temperatures along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular atmospheric conditions of the world; El Niño is linked to both droughts and floods, La Niña is linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have relationships to forest fires, economic changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO is necessary in order to attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and severity of this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years. Ruined by Lynn Nottage is a powerful play that narrates the nearly normalized issue of sexual violence against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Nottage personally traveled to the DRC and interviewed the victimized women and created a play that is based on their stories. She composed a very powerful play that made its audience to become aware of tragic situations that take place in African countries today. Throughout the play, Nottage brings the reader to raise several questions, such as why did these vulnerable women become the target of violence and what drives militiamen to commit these crimes rather than protecting them. While war in the DRC already created unpleasant outcomes, such as poverty and corruption, it also created cruel type of a weapon, humiliation and rape of women beside the guns and bombs. Meger asserts in her article that the majority of the rape crimes involve gang rapes, with an average of 4.5 attackers per victim, and they also tend to be systematically preplanned (127). Women depicted in Ruined are examples of rape victims. Salima s story in particular demonstrates how violent and unforgiving it can be out in there. One of the most integral changes, as elicited by the authors, is the response to stressors. With specific regard to this stage, the author denotes that the stage is characterized by major shifts in HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal) axis reactivity that amounts to escalated induced hormonal reactions. The author further explains that the factors that mediate such changes with respect to stress reactivity, as well as the consequent impacts that they may have on an individual, are yet to be substantiated. However, this literary research establishes that the stress sensitive cortical as well as limbic brain areas that are always in constant growth, especially during this stage, are extremely vulnerable to the changes that are prevalent. On the other hand, the perturbations with respect to the adolescent may in turn contribute to heightened psychological dysfunctions inclusive of depression, drug abuse, and anxiety.
