- 1. How does your media product represent different social groups?
- 2. The representation of an inspirational and iconic musician is a key feature throughout my magazine, allowing for a wider target audience. The artist I chose to interview was the teenage girl of 18 years old, ‘Alice Donovan’
- 3. It challenged stereotypes of women and young musicians in the music industry, as she was portrayed as a hard working and talented, thus making my magazine more appealing to females with similar interests and of a similar age to the artist.
- 4. In addition, her ‘indie’ style of music was similar to existing artists. This made my magazine appeal to more readers of other ‘indie’ magazines such as NME that represent solo artists of a similar age and music genre. Also, I made the article more light hearted by featuring quotes such as “I’m not letting the success get to my head, it’ll only come back and slap me in the face” – this makes her seem less of a celebrity and more of a musician which would appeal to an ‘indie/acoustic’ audience.
- 5. The images I used on my double page spread also reflect the audience I am aiming my product at. More readers of 16-24 may be more inclined to read an article or magazine if they see images of an artist they can relate to
- 6. The photographs portray her as a typical teenage girl rather than a celebrity. I made a feature of the colour of the subject’s hair as this made the cover and article more eye-catching to readers. People who listen to the ‘indie’ genre of music may be more inclined to pick my magazine over another, as the style of the artist features on the front is similar to theirs.
