Question 4,5 target audience
1. MEDIA – QUESTION 4 + 5
Who are your target audience and how did you attract and address
them?
2. TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience is mainly based on fashion,
age, gender (to an extent) and music interests.
My main focus obviously is to attract an
audience that are interested in pop music. My
age group is being aimed for teenagers but
stretches to young adults whilst my gender will
mainly be female due to the house style and
layout of my magazine appeals traditionally to
a female audience. But even though my target
audience is mainly females it still has content
and gossip that attracts a male audience.
Being interested in pop music can influence
your fashion so often the people who would
buy my magazine will wear similar clothing that
may be influenced by the genre of pop.
3. MY TYPICAL READER
This is Chloe. Chloe is an example of my
typical reader, a perfect example of my
target audience. She is a young
(teenage) female, following modern
fashion styles, with modern hair style and
likes pop music. Chloe is 17, single and
favourite band is The Vamps. Her hero is
Taylor Swift. Her favourite album is Now
89 and her hobbies include pop music
and dancing.
4. MY RESEARCH TOWARDS TARGET AUDIENCE
I researched my target
audience in multiple ways,
one of these ways is through
visual concepts such as a
mood board which is shown
to the left. This mood board I
assembled when I was
investigating my genre and
target audience, I
researched the different
artists in the genre of pop
and who would be
interested in this and my
research showed teenage
girls.
5. ATTRACTING ON MY COVER
On my cover I used an image of a young, confident
woman which will appeal to my target audience as it
gives teenage girls a model that they want to live up
to and want to be like. Knowing this I put her on the
front cover so the readers will be attracted to the
magazine. Also I used cover lines that would have
artists and bands that are liked and even loved by
my target audience of teenage females. Furthermore
my title ‘BOUNCE’ is a young, fun, catchy name
which again attracts a young audience.
6. ATTRACTING ON MY CONTENTS
To attract my target audience I used house styles and
story lines that would be suited my target audience.
For example I have used artists and bands that are
specific to my chosen genre and that are popular to
my target audience. So as you can see to the left I
chose artists and bands that do pop music and are
loved by teenage girls to make them attracted to this
magazine. Furthermore my images are attracting my
target audience as they are taken of famous places
such as New York which my audience are excited by
and inspired to go and see. Also images of people
and artists that they want to be like attracts my target
audience.
7. ATTRACTING ON MY ARTICLE
In my article I used very
interesting images that would
attract my audience as it shows
a young, confident pop star that
my audience would inspire to be
like and look up to. Also knowing
that I would like to attract males
to this magazine even though
it’s ideally for females, I made
the Images look very attractive
and inviting in a sense so
teenage boys will also want to
buy this magazine to look at
their “celebrity crush”. I also
used pull quotes and large
exciting sub-headings to attract
my audience as they are
interesting and makes teenage
girls want to hear more about
the gossip.
