The document analyzes title sequences of three horror films - The Exorcist, Annabelle, and Insidious - and identifies conventions in ordering, language, color, and font used. The Exorcist and Insidious follow conventions by having minimal titles that get straight into the film, while Annabelle breaks conventions by including two pages of crew names. Red and thin fonts are commonly used to set the horror genre. Minimal titles are standard to avoid distracting from the story, though Annabelle references the previous film. The conclusion discusses balancing title length with an abrupt ending.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. In this post I will be analysing titles of three films and suggest
what are the most conventional:
- Titles/Job Roles
- Language
- Ordering
- Colour/Font
3. THE EXORCIST -
Ordering of titles;
- Studio Logos – Standard Warner Bros Logo
- Name of Director – The colour of the font connotes the genre of the film making it easier
for the audience to recognise the genre. The same font is used in the
name of the film and the other titles for continuity
- Name of Writer -The colour of the font connotes the genre of the film making it easier
for the audience to recognise the genre. The same font is used in the
name of the film and the other titles for continuity
- Title of the Film - The colour of the font connotes the genre of the film making it easier
for the audience to recognise the genre. The font used is thin and
creepy, this could be used to foreshadow events to come, the titles
can help create the mood for the film.
4. THE EXORCIST CONTINUED -
Language –
The language used in this opening is minimal to the extent the names introduced are shown on screen, when
the director is mentioned it said ‘A William Friedkin Film’ however when the writer is shown it just says ‘
William Peter Blatty’s’ By keeping the titles minimal it means that the audience can get into the film quicker.
Ordering –
The ordering of titles in this film opening are as follows; studio logo, name of director, name of writer and
title of film. The mentioning of titles in the opening are minimal, this is conventional for horror films as it is
common to have very few titles if any to get straight into the action.
5. ANNABELLE -
Ordering of titles;
- Name of the producer
- References to the film before
- Film title
- Mentions of the production company
- Mentions of the writer and director
- The font is fairly thin, this is common in horror films as it connotes creepiness.
The colour is plain making the titles blend into the background. This makes it
more mysterious and intriguing.
6. ANNABELLE CONTINUED -
Language –
When the titles are shown it gives the job title of the person and then their name. There is extra information shown in
the opening titles, for example the fact that Annabelle is the sequel to The Conjuring. This is displayed in the same font
as the rest of the titles and the way it is explained is with minimal wording so that it gets straight to the point. Towards
the end of the titles sequence there are 2 pages full of the production company, writers and directors. This is
unconventional for horror films to do this as it is usual that they want to get the titles over as quick as possible so the
events can unfold.
Ordering –
The ordering of titles in this film opening are as follows; Producer, reference to previous film, title of the film and the
followed by 2 pages of production company and directors. This is unconventional for horror films as it is typical that
the director has a title to himself, it is also unconventional for the production company, music, editors and directors to
be crammed onto a 2 page spread.
7. INSIDIOUS -
Ordering of titles;
- In association with stage 6 films
- Name of production company
- Name of director
- Title of the film
- Name of actors
All the titles are in the same font and colour. The connotations of the colour red are death and
blood. This helps establish the genre of the film quickly. The font is fairly thin like the other
titles I have decided to analyse. However when the directors name is shown his name is in black
And is backlit by a white moon like object.
8. INSIDIOUS CONTINUED -
Language –
When the titles are shown it gives the job title of the person and then their name. The jargon used is specific to the
persons job role. When the directors name is shown on screen it does now show their title, just his name. When the
actors names are shown on screen they appear in pairs, this could be to save time so that the action can be revealed
quicker.
Ordering –
The ordering of titles in this film opening are as follows; In association with stage 6 films, name of production company,
Name of director, Title of the film & name of actors. This generally sticks to conventions for this genre as the titles are
done fairly quickly, they are in colours that connote the genre of this film and there are no pages full of names.
9. CONCLUSION -
In conclusion it is common for a film in the horror genre to have minimal titles in order for the film to start
efficiently, meaning that the audience experience the films entirety without being distracted from the long
titles. The Exorcist and Insidious both show the name of the films at the end of the title sequence but Annabelle
is shown after the name of the first film in the series. This may be so that people can make associations and
relate the situations in Annabelle, to the previous film. I have found out that they include the name of the studio
and the director, but the actors names do not feature in the opening titles. This might be because they do not
want the audience to relate seeing the actors in other films. It also may be because people might not like a
certain actor which might stop them from watching the film. Obviously the production company of the film will
want the film to be a success, meaning they will do anything they can to ensure that it is successful. In
Annabelle they did not put the directors name on a separate page to everyone else's name, instead they
crammed on a lot of names to get them in the titles. This is not a convention for this genre therefore they
challenged it.
In the titles of our film we have included the Studio Logo, Directors Name, Names of producers, Names of
actors, sound engineers, make up, costume, props and then at the end of the film we had the name of the film.
This develops the normal conventions however we felt that if we only included a few titles for example, the
studio logo, director, producer and actors that the titles ended abruptly and they were shown to a short length
of time so it didn’t really fit with the opening.
