Titles
The Occupants
The production company (A Go Go Lucky Entertainment) is the first thing that is shown to
the audience and this is shown before the intro of the film is started in white font against a
black background. The introduction then starts and when that is finished the title is shown.
The title goes from white writing into red. This suggests that it is a horror film as red is a
colour we tend to associate with danger and can also represent blood. The contrast of
colours are effective and attention grabbing getting the audience ready for the film to start.
When these titles are shown there is nothing else on the screen meaning the audience pay
more attention to the title of the film, this is helped by the big sized font, even though it is
quite a basic style of font.
The Corrupted
The first thing that is shown at the start of this film is also the companies name/logo. This
company mainly creates horrors/thrillers which is obvious through their name and the way it is
shown with the use of the leafless tree to create a creepy feel. The film begins and there is a man
sat on a beach playing guitar. The titles begin to come in with the waves and then fade out with
the waves as well. The first thing that is shown is the name of the film. It then goes onto people
who helped create the film and people who star in the film. I personally don’t think this is the best
way to do the titles as nothing is happening and people tend not to pay much attention to who is
in the film/who created it so this could lead to the audience getting bored and not paying
attention to the film.
13 Sins
The order of the begging of this film is interesting as they start the film before doing any of
the titles. The titles begin just after about 1 minute and 30 seconds of the actual film being
shown. It then starts the titles which begins with people who helped create the film and
companies involved. Next it goes onto the name of the film ’13 Sins’ then finally onto actors
who star in the film. I think this is quite a weird way to make the intro to a film, however I
believe it is effective as showing the audience the start of the film and then cutting into the
titles leaves them on a cliff hanger making them want to continue with the film. It may also
lead to them paying more attention to the actual titles of the film. It is mainly shades of
brown that are used when the titles are being shown and these dull, subdued help create the
ominous mood of the film.
Conclusion
From looking into titles I have learnt that they’re important to the
opening of a film and can help create mood and atmosphere. When
making the titles for my film I will make sure to think about colour, size
and font style as well as what order to do them in, making sure to
incorporate dull and dark colours as well as brighter colours such a red
or white to contrast with them. I will put who made the film first
followed by who is acting in it, however I think I am going to do this
whilst the actual film is beginning.
