They co-existed with early modern humans known as Cro-Magnon for approximately 5,000 years, as evidenced by fossils found in Châtelperron caves. Neanderthals had short, robust bodies adapted to cold environments, with wide pelvises, short limbs, and prominent facial features including low brows and no chin.
