Genocide during the Bosnian War
Raphael Lemkin described genocide as acts of barbarism that should be outlawed, even in times of
war . Lemkin is right. Genocide is a cruel vicious act that I do not wish upon my greatest enemies. It is
torture and death. A lot of people think genocide is a thing of the past. After all it is 2014 already. We
are so much more advanced and connected then back during the time of the Holocaust. A genocide
started just 22 years ago and it was during the Bosnian War. The Bosnian Genocide was atrocious
because it classified and dehumanized a religion, it allowed for the extermination of a people based on
religion and the murderers denied they ever committed a crime and tried to cover the deaths up. The
Bosnian War took place in the republic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Serbs who stayed friendly with Muslim neighbors or tried to protect them were considered traitors,
and they were dealt with harshly (Ching). The prisoners in the camps were beaten, denied food and
water, housed in horrific conditions, sexually assaulted, tortured, and finally killed (Bosnian
Genocide). There was no food, little water, and a lot of fear (Bosnia 1995). Some detainees there were
killed on a pyre of burning tires, while others were forced to load dead bodies onto trucks, or to dig
their own graves. As many as fifty thousand Muslim girls and women, aged nine to sixty, were raped
by Serbian soldiers and volunteers. This made them unfit, according to Muslim culture, to be either
wives or mothers (Ching). The Serbian soldiers would declare after rape that the women had given
birth to Serbian babies. Due to these incidents, many of the female captives lost all of their strength
and suffered from a number of sexually transmitted infections. The first goal of the Serbs was to wipe
out the educated, the intellectuals, the wealthy, and any other non Serbs who actively opposed their
rule. By June 1994, fewer than 50,000 remained in their home and the area had been determined
purified . (The Combat). Most Bosnian Croats and Serbs had the option of fleeing to Croatia and
Serbia. However Bosnian Muslims had nowhere to go. They crowded into Bosnian cities that were
still widely thought to be safe. Serbian forces continued to carry out

Kants Critiques of Pure reason and Groundwork of the Metaphysics
Kant states that, In the order of time, therefore, we have no knowledge antecedent to experience, and
with experience all our knowledge begins, but although all of our knowledge begins with experience,
it does not follow that it all arises out of experience, (CPR,41). What he means is that we do not rely
on experience inorder to have knowledge, but knowledge and experience are connected for to have
knowledge we must begin with experience. There are four types of knowledge that Kant deduced. A
priori, which is knowledge that is independent of experience, knowledge which is always true, does
not rely on a person to experience it inorder for one to realize that it is true. A ... Show more content

Kant affirms that, Judgments of experience, as such, are one and all synthetic, (CPR, 49). This makes
sense because it would not make sense to found an analytic judgment on experience.
Kant thinks that the general problem of pure reason is contained in the question: How are apriori
synthetic judgments possible? Kant postulates that if he is able to figure out or understand the
conditions in which the sciences are possible to exist he can also figure out the conditions of which a
priori synthetic judgments can exist. Kant defines pure reason as, that which contains the principles
whereby we know anything absolutely a priori. Phenomena is an object as it is perceived by the
senses, as opposed to a noumena which is an object as it is in itself independent of the mind (the thing
in itself).
Rational beings may align their quot;will quot; either with the objective laws of reason and morality or
with subjective needs and interests. Reason s demands may be called quot;imperatives. quot;
quot;Hypothetical imperatives quot; command that a particular action is necessary as a means to some
purpose, such as the attainment of personal happiness. Categorical imperatives require that some
action is necessary in and of itself. Thus the categorical imperative may be formulated as follows: act
only in such a way that you could want the maxim of your action to become a universal law. This
statement can

Waldo Reflection
Where is Waldo? This question has been occupying my mind for years. Sometimes, I would spot him
right away in those crowded pictures. For the times I couldn t, I wouldn t give up or get bored; I d turn
the book to see the picture from a different angle. I would spend hours if I had to, ignoring my sore
muscles just to spot a red and white shirt. Over the years, this particular question has changed
numerous times and possessed a myriad of disparate forms, but my childhood attitude and resilience
towards a question, any type of question, would stay unchanged. In the end, Waldo was always there...
waiting to be found.
As I learned more about radiology, my troubling question of what I want to become was answered.

Finding answers can be very fulfilling, and so can finding new questions. There are yet more
questions out there. The idea of incorporating the abstractness of radiology and its depth of knowledge
on the human body with an actual body needing intervention was something that genuinely intrigued
me. Consequently, after I graduated from medical school, I joined the research team of the
Interventional Radiology Section at the University of Wisconsin, Madison to study intra arterial
therapies. My hard work as a volunteer was appreciated, and I was offered a paid research position to
investigate novel imaging modalities and thermal ablation treatments.
In the pursuit of my destination, I ve learned a lot from my experiences through my competencies and
curiosity. However, good mentoring and teamwork have also been vital in my development as a doctor
and a scientist. Can Waldo still hide for long if I have extra eyes and know where to look at? That is
why I want to pursue my training in the US, where I can most resourcefully shape myself to become a
competent radiologist. To this end, I believe spending my preliminary year in surgery would further
enhance my motor skills and the patient care I provide while it would advance my knowledge of
anatomy and give me the opportunity to personally experience the dynamics of the human body.
I understand that real life is a lot more

Physician Remuneration Case Study
In 2010 11, Ontario spent, 40.3% of its total spending on healthcare programs and it was determined
that if left unchecked this trend would expand to more than 44% by 2017 18 (Drummond, 2012).
Physician remuneration accounts for the third largest share of health dollars (15.5%), behind only
pharmaceuticals (15.7%) and hospitals (29.5%) (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2015).
These three categories are by far the largest single categories of expenditure and when combined
represent 60% of total health spending. Furthermore it is important to note that the growth rate of
physician expenditure (2.2%) has outpaced that of hospitals or drugs since 2007 (Canadian Institute
for Health Information, 2015). Due to the pressing nature of ballooning ... Show more content on

In this case the principle is the government, which has an objective of maximizing the health care of
Ontario while also efficiently utilizing resources to keep costs low. However the government
(principle) cannot achieve this on its own and need physicians (the agent) to carry out the task related
to health improvement. The government aims to motivate physician through financial incentives to
improve health, nonetheless physicians are always striving to increase their own utility via higher
income, which occurs as a direct result of patients visits to the physician which is higher when the
population is unhealthy. This represents an endless cycle of repetition, where the government wishes
to improve health status but the intrinsic value of physician remuneration is a direct result of the lack
of health in the population. This results in the fee for service model being both technically inefficient
and costly since physicians have a financial incentive to over utilize resources such as conducting
exams that may not necessarily be needed. Furthermore due to the nature of Universal health care
patients also have also a tendency to over utilize health services, as individuals do not personally incur
costs for accessing health services. This leads to the expressed demand curve of health care being
higher than it should if it were solely based on necessity (Figure 1). Each extra unnecessary access of
healthcare provides diminishing marginal benefit in large part due to opportunity cost. If a patient did
not access said health care their time could have gone towards a different activity that has a higher
marginal benefit. As a result true marginal social benefit is lower than modeled and utility decreases
overall as the public healthcare model and fee for service model for physicians results in over
utilization regardless of the

Leadership Skills For A Good Leader Essay
INTRODUCTION
This paper would be evaluating leadership skill with the focus on Microsoft corporation and its leader

evaluation, efforts would be made to critically evaluate the factors that drives a good leader and how
they affect a brand like Microsoft, benefits, limitations, etc and a conclusion of research and findings.
Leadership is a major factor that drives the success or failure of an organisation, good leaders foresee
(vision) a need for change and forward movement of an organization and influence, inspire, motivate
others into participating in strategized activities that can bring about such positive impact
(achievement of goal). The best way to be a good leader is by being an example, Microsoft was

Analysis Of The Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, was a novel written to expose the harsh conditions of the meatpacking
industry. The novel also describes the struggles of a family living in America. The novel changed the
way many looked at society. Fortunately, that was Sinclair s purpose of the novel. In other words,
Sinclair included many themes for the novel like The American Dream , capitalism versus socialism,
and even the horrors of the meatpacking industry. First, Sinclair included the theme of The American
Dream . The American Dream is the idea that the idea that hard work and morality will yield material
success and happiness. As stated in the book, rich or poor, a man was free... he did not have to go into
the army, he did not have to pay out his money to public officials he might do as he pleased and count
himself as good as any other man. This quote explains how Jurgis and his family thought The
American Dream was like before the moved to America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sinclair was basically trying to say socialism is better than capitalism throughout the book. As stated
in The Jungle, Here was a population, low class and mostly foreign, hanging always on the venge of
starvation, and dependent for its opportunities of life upon the whim of men every bit as brutal and
unscrupulous as the old time slave drivers; under such circumstances immorality was exactly as
inevitable, and as prevalent, as it was under the system of chattel slavery. In other words, he was

Analysis Of My First Selected Poem By Jane Hirshfield
My first selected poem is a poem written by Jane Hirshfield called The Poet . The Poet is about a
female poet trying to re discover her skill of creating beautiful poems. When reading this poem, the
reader can infer that this poet is in distress and frustrated because the poet sets a depressing mood. You
almost start to feel a little sympathetic for her, but the mood lightens when the poet finds out that her
poems aren t discovered in a calm and perfect situation. This changes the mood from depressing to

Ocean Climate Change
Essay #1 Over the years, climate change has affected marine species because it has increased the
ocean temperature, causing it to get warmer, which is causing a negative impact to most marine
organisms like echinoderms and cnidarians (Quinn, 2016). In many cases, the optimum temperature of
growth increased 1 6°C, which created harmful effects on stages of development (Quinn, 2016). In
some cases such as the American lobster (Homarus americanus), warming of the ocean had caused
smaller body sizes (Le Bris et al., 2016). Even though there is some research that showed that the
warm temperature could also benefit the lobster s population, most of their population has declined in
the warmest and southernmost regions of the lobster s range in places like southern New England and
Long Island Sound (Quinn, 2016). In those places, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another study, it was also found that climate change has affected the ocean temperature because it
caused smaller sizes at the juvenile stage (Le Bris et al., 2016). Also, Le Bris and other researchers
(2016) found that juvenile period is shortened to increase survival in their adult stages. In this study, it
also shows that the increase in temperatures causes the lobsters to molt faster and have lower
increments of average growth (Le Bris et al., 2016). They also collected water temperatures from May
to October, and their results portrayed that there was a 2.8 millimeters decrease in the height of
lobsters for every 1°C in temperature in the ocean (Le Bris et al., 2016), which shows climate change
has directly affected the American lobster s size. In the experiment, there were not a lot of limiting
factors, but they should have mentioned whether the increase in ocean temperatures affected the
development pattern of the lobsters. Overall, in both studies, it has been indicated that the length at
50% maturity has been declining in the last 20 years, and the size range at which maturation occurs

Giancarlo De Carlo, An Italian Architect
Giancarlo De Carlo was an Italian Architect. He wasn t known as an architect until the 1940s, but
rather a writer and a teacher. He trained as an architect in the 1940s, which was during the Second
World War, leading him to generate his philosophy towards life and architecture but he did not start
building until the 1950s. He was a founding member of Team X, Team X was a group of architects
that formed at the 9th congress of CIAM (Congrès International d Architecture Moderne). Their aim
was to reassess the role and function of architecture, paying attention to rebuilding built environments
and their surrounding social and natural conditions. Famous works by De Carlo include The Magistero
at Urbino, 1968 76, Collegio del Colle at Urbino, 1962 66 and Faculty of Economics at University of
Urbino, 1986 99. De Carlo has strong opinions about Modernism Movement; he often critiques the
Modern Movement. He sees that the Modern Movement was an opportunity wasted, as he had written
a number of articles regarding Modern Architecture.
Modernism was a radical movement that first emerged in the early 20th century, but was not popular
till after the Second World War. During the 1970s, many architects began to notice the increasing
failures of the Modern Movement. De Carlo has a lot of criticism towards the Modern Movement.

Causes And Effects Of Autism
When someone mentions electric shock therapy what comes to your mind? Is there a connection
somewhere in your family tree to Fragile X ? Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than
we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your
unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism.
Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers
and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be
anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t
help wondering if you are responsible in some way.
Thesis Statement
There is growing evidence that the rapid rise in reported cases of autism is caused, and influenced
equally, by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include a broad range of
influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines
and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in
combination with environmental ones. It is believed that over time genetic changes brought on by the
environment are passed on to future generations predisposing them to disorders as autism. While
thousands of dollars and countless studies claim to have found a concrete link between environmental
and genetic factors and the new

The Characters Of A Samper From The Sniper And The Sniper
When i was in kid, i wanted to learn how to play soccer. All my friend played soccer but i didn t.
Instead of going to my friend for help i grabbed my soccer ball went to the field and played each and
every day. Though i was not that good that year i showed determination to keep going and get better
and by my third year i was one of the best on my team. BY not wanting anyone to help me learn to

In the story The sniper by Liam O Flaherty, the sniper show determination through making hard

is that even though he got shot he was determined to kill the enemy sniper. The quote that show this is

injured he will still keep going and what he is determined to kill the enemy sniper. Even though his
arm is badly broken and he is bleeding out. Another example of how the sniper showed determination

What is culture? Are we that different? The English Anthropologist Edward B. Taylor explained it in
his work Primitive Culture as Culture or civilization is a complex whole which includes knowledge,
belief, art, morals, law, customs, and other capabilities acquired by human as a member of society.
Valuing and understanding cultural diversity is very important in terms of being able to understand the
differences and histories of a society.
Culture itself is a key feature in the identity of a society as it helps people within the society to
identify how they view themselves and other ethnic groups. Every community, culture, or ethnic group

Many habits are very similar to practices in the United States. Germany is a small and densely
populated country. Unlike the United States, which is a huge and densely populated country.
The greatest shock to Americans is probably that there are no speed limits on the German Autobahn ,
which is the Highway. Speed limits in cities are strictly enforced, but on most of the Autobahn there is
no limit.
In Germany people usually greet others when walking into a waiting room or train compartment. A
simple Guten Tag or, in my home state Bavaria Gruess Gott , is the standard. Germans are also
diligent hand shakers. Not only do they shake hands when meeting someone for the first time, but at
every meeting thereafter. Arriving at parties and gatherings, it is not unusual to greet everybody
individually, with a handshake and then repeat the round again when you leave. But Never have a
hand in your pocket when shaking a Germans hand and always make eye contact.
Germans are quite reserved and typically won t take the initiative to meet with someone unless it s
necessary, especially if they know that you are American and their English is bad or nonexistent.
Germans expect Americans friendly, so it s a good idea for you to take the initiative and introduce
yourself. Every little bit of German you learn helps. Germans and all Europeans appreciate Americans

II. Popular science and Australiana retail brand; Australian Geographic Retail has begun closing down
sixty seven of its stores across Australia, as owner Myer Family Investments (MFI) seeks to close the
loss making business. MFI bought the Australian Geographic chain in 2007, but due to increased retail
competition from stores such as Kmart and Target, the brand has recently failed to return profits.
Where the stores have recently begun a process which will likely lead to a controlled exit from its
retail business during the first half of 2017 . As a result of globalisation, multinational co operations
are forcing smaller and local businesses to close their doors through the use of online retailing and
lower prices, depriving the smaller businesses of demand and revenue. These lower prices will benefit
the consumers, saving them money, yet this comes at the expense of others. In particular, third world
countries and their undeveloped regulation systems are being exploited for their cheap labour,
lowering their living standards. This decreases the cultural diversity of products, as consumers will be
restricted to the goods supplied by the multi national co operations.

Netflix Argumentative Essay
It is no secret that pretty much everyone has a Netflix account, and everyone is always binge watching
a new show. So when it was decided that our favorite shows from the past were going to come back on
Netflix, account holders went wild and those who didn t have an account made sure they got one
beforehand.
Take for example Fuller House: Full House was a family favorite from when it first aired, to when the
younger generation watched it at night before they went to bed. So, they decided it was a good idea to
bring it back on Netflix for what the creators thought was only going to be a chunk of episodes.
However, (like I could have guessed it would,) it took off, and viewers were asking for a season 2 and
more episodes. Fans of the show

So now after the success of Fuller House, writers of television shows became inspired. For example
Gilmore Girls, another very popular television series from the past is coming back this November with
a Netflix revival and I can almost bet my luck that it will be as successful as the other one.
Netflix revivals have also been popular not to bring back old cancelled shows, but to save ones that
have just recently been cancelled. Arrested Development was cancelled by Fox after three very
successful seasons, and picked up by Netflix for a fourth, and it getting ready for a fifth. They also
revived Trailer Park Boys, Longmire, (information I learned from fortune.com) and I m sure those are
just the ones that aren t working behind the scenes in the minds of Netflix producers.
So what is it about Netflix that makes them so sure. Sure enough to bring back shows from many
years ago, and sure enough to bring back shows that were cancelled from big name television
networks like Fox. Well, it doesn t hurt that they have a ridiculous amount of subscribers paying ten
dollars (give or take a few) every month, to watch the same shows over and over

Advantages Of Fundamentals Of Database Management System
Fundamentals of Database Management Systems.
What is Database Management System?
Today, Database management systems play a main role in management, data transportation,
administrative and control systems. A database management system (DBMS) is system software for
creating, managing databases. A database management system creates a systematic way for programs,
apps and users to create, retrieve, delete, update and manage data. DBMS ensure that data is
consistently organized and remains easily accessible. As a normal person we access to database
management systems every day within our personal computers, mobile phones and various digital
devises for various purposes like play online games, find something, find a place. Today every
business, organization use a DBMS for store, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is the very first DBMS. Then IBM created their own database system, called IMS. That creates
for NASA s APPOLO space shuttle program. These two systems are the navigational data bases.
These database systems are not easy to use. In 1970s EDGAR CODD thought of a way to make things
a bit easier. He wrote a paper A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks. This concept
becomes relational DBMS.
Advantages of a DBMS
There are so many advantages of using DBMS. The biggest advantage is DBMS lets end users and
application programmers access and use the same data while managing data integrity. And data is
better maintained and protected. Data can be shared using a DBMS instead of creating new iterations
of the same data stored in new files for every new application. A central storage of data provides by a
DBMS that can be accessed by multiple users in same time in a controlled manner.
Central storage and management of data within the DBMS provides:
Data security. (DBMS provides high security. Anyone cannot access data without root s permission).
Data independence and abstraction.

Fumimaro Konoe s Invasion Of China

Family Life Revealed In Taoist Writings
Have you ever heard of Taoist Writings? Taoist Writings were initially created to provide guidance to
wise rulers or those who wished to live wisely. Through the poem, Tao Te Ching, I learned that the
culture centuries ago believed that life happens to you and nothing you do can change it. Therefore,
they preferred to sit back and accept their fate. In this poem, there are fundamentals that we still in
modern times live by. For instance, we both believe family is the most important thing in our life. A
quote from the poem that proves they held this value, In family life, be completely present (Mitchell
414). A concrete example from modern times that proves we have this value is Thanksgiving. On
Thanksgiving, we get together with our family to celebrate. It is believed that without a family it is
difficult to live happily since there is no one to cherish and appreciate you. Without a family, you can
not share your happiness. Therefore, I believe that we share this fundamental with the people back
when Tao Te Ching was written. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the poem, it, speaks of the ideal where people act without doing anything. A quote
from the poem that proves they held this value is, Therefore the Master acts without doing anything
and teaches without saying anything (Mitchell 414). In modern day, you will find that this ideal is not
respected or preached. In America, we believe that you will achieve nothing if you don t apply hard
work and dedications. Those who take the initiative, are the ones who succeed. A personal example
would be my sisters. My sister is getting her masters in political science and has done multiple
internships so she can get somewhere in life. Due to the reasons mentioned above, you can see how
this is an idea that we do not

Essay Affirmative Action
Affirmative action works. When these policies received government support, vast numbers of people
of color, white women and men have gained access they would not otherwise have had. These gains
have led to very real changes. Affirmative action programs have not eliminated racism, nor have they
always been implemented without problems. However, there would be no struggle to roll back the
gains achieved if affirmative action policies were ineffective. The implementation of affirmative
action was America s first honest attempt at solving a problem, it had previously chosen to ignore. In a
variety of areas, from the quality of health care to the rate of employment, blacks still remain far
behind whites.

Congress also passed a number of civil rights laws barring discrimination against blacks in hotels,
theaters, and other places. However, the South reacted by passing the Black Codes, which severely
limited the rights of the newly freed slaves, preventing them in most states from testifying in courts
against whites, limiting their opportunities to find work, and generally assigning them to the status of
second or third class citizen. White vigilante groups like the Klu Klux Klan began to appear, by
murdering and terrorizing blacks who tried to exercise their new rights. Legal ways were also found
for circumventing the new laws; these included grandfather clauses , poll taxes, white only primary
elections, and constant social discrimination against and intimidation of blacks, who were excluded
form education and from any job except the most menial. Affirmative action has had its greatest
amount of success in city, state, and government jobs. Since the 1960s the area of law enforcement
witnessed the greatest increase in minority applicants, and in jobs offered to minorities. This should be
viewed as an extremely positive thing, because prior to affirmative action these jobs were almost

The Lost Type Co-Op
As I was searching through various font foundries through Google search I came across one that
piqued my interest the font foundry was Lost Type Co Op. They caught my eye because they have
produced some really great vintage and retro style fonts. I also chose this font foundry because they
have an unusual font buying system where they leave their visitors with the choice to pay what they
can afford for the fonts on the site. They left it this way expecting people to have a moral code and to
pay what they felt the font was deserving; as well as giving designers with little means the ability to
purchase fonts to use in their designs. After doing a little digging through more searches I found the
history of how the Lost Type Co Op was founded. It originally started off as a bet between the co
founders Riley Cran and Tyler Galpin after finding a 1940 s Ball glass jar poster both designers were
enamored with the secondary font promoting the glass jars. Cran bet Galpin that he could produce a
full alphabet of the font face in 24 hours; Galpin said if he could he would make a website for the font.
24 hours and some collaboration later the Font Muncie was completed. They offered Muncie up to the
design community as a completely free typeface. After some thought they decided to try to make it a
go as a font service; and started to call other design friends who were turning towards creating fonts
for their design work. After a few months they had a selection of thirty different

My Family Of The Family Tree
I derive most of my identity from my Mother s side of the family tree, so this autobiography will be a
little lopsided; much like my personality. My maternal grandmother s family came from Sonder
Stenderup of Jutland, Denmark and my maternal grandfather s family is of German descent. The
original family name was Gron, however my great grandfather change the surname to Green in order
to sound more American. My mother s grandparents came from Jutland, Denmark in 1905 and my
grandmother was born in Racine in 1920. The only characteristic I inherited from that side of the
family is my punctuality, my outspokenness, and my ability to drink. I grew up in a three bedroom,
one bathroom house with my mother and four brothers along with a neighborhood full of kids (mostly
boys). I have three older brothers; 10, 9, and 8 years older and one brother who is three years younger
than me. My older brothers all joined the service as they turned of age, therefore it created a split
upbringing for me. Up until I was 8, I was treated as the baby sister and my younger brother and I
were constantly dragged to my older brother s friends houses. My mother worked quite a bit,
therefore, my eldest brother was in charge of the rest of the clan, however, he usually delegated one of
the other two brothers to watch me my younger brother. Which is why I learned to play poker at a very
young age, even though I m still not good at bluffing my opponents. After I turned eleven, all of my

Graduation Speech
When my family arrived in the United States as immigrants in December of 2000, we were foreigners
in a strange place. We did not know any English so my siblings and I were placed in a school that had
an English as a Second Language program specifically designed for immigrant students. I remember
being pulled out of my normal classroom regularly to work with teachers and other students on
activities that were designed to teach me English. The memory that stands out to me the most when
thinking of those classes are the teachers who patiently worked with me sounding out words in books
or writing sentences. The teachers made me excited about learning even when I was pulled out of my
regular class at times when we were watching a movie or playing games. One day we were reading
out loud in class and I nervously raised my hand to volunteer to read. I began reading the sentence in
my small timid voice and as I continued reading I heard the voice of a girl who was comfortable and
assured in the words she was speaking. There were no unsure pauses or nervous stutters in my reading
and I remember feeling a sense of triumph that I could read so clearly. The separate time I received
with these teachers played a large role in my success as a student. I was able to form a comfortable
relationship that allowed me to be more engaged in the class and willing to learn without fear.
Although I was disadvantaged because of

The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar
Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar
The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no courts, labor, and is a
day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of church and state, Christmas is considered a
legal holiday and one needs to question the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when
one looks at the concept of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in
today s modern society.
Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal holiday due to the fact
that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays that recognize other religions. The United
States does not have a recognized national religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally
recognized holidays.
In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of view on this matter.
Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American Lexicographer, between a holiday and a
holy day, where by the latter should be used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the
former should rather denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the
common impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day of rest
and legal inaction? (Uhle 137)
With cultural diversity being what it is today, and the many different religious traditions that comes of
this, establishing a holyday as a legal

Compare David And Goliath
One of the most distinctive images from Caravaggio s post Roman work is his tragically famous
rendering of David with the Head of Goliath (Fig. 10). Compared with the jubilance David is
expressed as having in the original Bible verse (I Samuel 17:20 58) the image of David in Caravaggio
s interpretation is much more solemn, pensive and brooding. The young David gazes at the
decapitated head of Goliath not in pride, but almost in pain. The furrowed brow of the young boy
suggests some sort of discomfort, which leads analysts to consider the painter s mental state at the
time. The story of David and Goliath is known to be about humility defeating pride, something
Caravaggio could be desperate to prove in this year of his life. The artist was still ... Show more

The presentation drew the attention of countless art critics who were now interested in investigating
the final tragic years of a once great artist. While relatively small, with only sixteen paintings out of
the suggested twenty one that Caravaggio completed after fleeing Rome (twenty two if you count the
Nativity, which was stolen thirty five years ago in Palermo) the exhibit is still awe inspiring and
emphasizes not only the talent of Caravaggio, but also the speed with which he was able to work.
Richard Spear echoes this accomplishment in his article Late Caravaggio: Naples and London, noting,
nearly half of the twenty two paintings are big, multi figured canvases. Even granting that Caravaggio
painted quickly during his last phase, this is an impressive output over four years from an artist who
had to resettle six times in five different cities and spent a month in prison . The speed at which he
created these works, however, was not at the price of their extravagance. David Packwood, author of A
Brush with Death applauds Caravaggio for these later pieces, saying, it is astounding that he produced
such a body of original and innovative work during a period when he seems to have been fearful for
his life . As examined above, the fear that Caravaggio was feeling was no doubt channeled into many
of these exceptional works, especially in those in which his

How Does The Hobbit Change The World
I have always loved to read. I love to escape from the drama and stress of real life by opening a book
and getting sucked into a world drastically different from my own and stepping into a character s
shoes. This love made me want to create these stories on my own; I want to take my own ideas and
create a world as vivid as the ones in my favorite books. My love for unreal worlds pulled me to
J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He spent years weaving together different
myths, languages, and traditions of all of the different races of people and creatures in his stories, and
I wanted to be able to create a lore like that in my own books. Tolkien was one of the most influential
writers of the twentieth century, and he almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used his personal experiences in his fiction, giving everyone who read his books a look into his
past, and into the past of our world. Tolkien showed to those paying attention that his books were not
just frivolous fantasy. If you look to his war experiences, you notice that Bilbo in The Hobbit, like
Tolkien, was torn from his peaceful home and tossed into unfamiliar and dangerous new surroundings.
In The Lord of the Rings, the way Sauron ravages Middle earth is strikingly similar to that of Hitler in
World War II (J.R.R. Tolkien). When reading The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, one would
hopefully notice that The Lord of the Rings is much darker than its predecessor. However, The Hobbit
can take on a deeper meaning when one considers that through Bilbo, we are connected to Tolkien s
personal experiences and emotions during war; it s not just a silly children s book. When The Lord of
the Rings is connected to World War II as well, one may realize that all of Tolkien s work is rooted in
our world s history, despite being fantasy (J.R.R. Tolkien). All of his books now have a much deeper
meaning. Now, even in the twenty first century, Tolkien s work is still a favorite among all ages;
maybe it s because of its deeper meaning, or maybe it s just the depth and mystery in his writing.
Either way, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have now sold over tens of millions of copies; they
are classics (J.R.R.

The Treaty Of Versailles and Establishment of Peace Essay...
The Treaty Of Versailles and Establishment of Peace
The Treaty Of Versailles established an uneasy peace. I will prove this by looking at such factors as
The Big Three s lust for revenge on the Germans, the four major problems encountered when
composing the treaty, the final terms of the treaty and the Germans anger at it.
The Big Three were three powerful leaders from three powerful nations. They would be Woodrow
Wilson, Georges Clemenceau and David Lloyd George, of the USA, France and the UK respectively.
These great men would decide the fate of Germany.
Woodrow Wilson wanted to create a League of Nations which was a new organisation which could
end disputes between countries without wars. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war ran through France and therefore people s homes, land and other property were destroyed. All
the countries who were lost went into debt, therefore the Germans had to pay war reparations, despite
the damage not being entirely the fault of Germany.
Self determination also caused problems and nationalist groups were keener than ever to rule
themselves and be free of their empires. Woodrow Wilson encouraged self determination, as he saw
smaller countries less of a threat. This was included in the Treaty of Versailles.
Russia was taken over by communists in 1917. It was spreading all around the world. Capitalist
countries were scared that the communists would take over. Communists wanted everyone to be equal.
(Communist countries were denied membership to the League of Nations.)
Twenty million people died in WWI. There had never been a war like it. It was meant to be the war to
end all wars, but failed to succeed, Consequently causing more problems.
The following points were decided and written on the final Treaty of Versailles.
Alsace Lorraine must be returned to France after being stolen in 1871. The French PM, Georges
Clemenceau wanted it back.
The Rhineland, in between Germany and France will remain part of Germany, but no German military
forces are permitted to enter, because it would be the optimum point to attack France.

Who Is Responsible For The Deaths Of Romeo And Juliet
The play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a classic Elizabethan styled tragedy, with two
star crossed lovers doomed by their families long standing feud. In the play, Shakespeare constantly
outlines the theme of hate and its destructiveness, conveying a strong moral tale to the audience and
characters. Juliet s hate and resentment towards her parents became the spark that later on caused the
destructive death of Romeo, Juliet and Paris. Furthermore, the hate filled feud between the Montagues
and Capulets lead to the tragic death of Tybalt and Mercutio, causing a great deal of destructiveness.
Finally, the damage that both houses suffered at the end of the play puts forward the strong moral of
hate only destroys to the audience.

Reflection Paper On My Diet
Summary I had such an unhealthy diet before but my diet has changed since I made a few plans for
the Journal #1. And I was pretty good to keep it until when I just finished the Journal #2. Most of them
are going pretty well still now too but recently I have something wrong on my diet again. Even if I did
not plan such a big thing, to keep everything that I planned was a little difficult because I had been
having the unhealthy diet for a pretty long time which means it takes time to change my old habits. I
just realized that I am getting to return to my old habit and I have to plan again to improve it.
Challenges I realized that I am getting to return to my old diet habits and I was thinking about what
cause that. And I think the reason could be my schedule of the school because I realized that I usually
take food at home or school and I do not take an instant food at home anymore. It means the school is
the only place that I take food except for home. One of my challenges that I made was that taking a
breakfast and I still keep that because I could buy homemade Korean food that composed of a light
soup with a few side dishes which are very healthy food for every week. But at the school, I always
have two classes that from 8 or 9 a.m. to around 3 or 4 p.m. during the weekdays and I should take a
lunch at school. But, in the school I do not have many choices for food. So, I just take food for satiety
and I cannot digest well and it also cause that I take dinner at late night.

Romeo And Juliet Vs Pyramus And Hebe
Romeo and Juliet VS. Pyramus and Thisbe Compare and Contrast Essay It is not too often that we

Resistance By Bachrach Debor The Resistance
Resistance is seen in many parts of daily life. For example, take a baby that will not eat its food and
hits the food away when the food is brought to close to the babies mouth. Or a dog that refuses to go
on a walk after a person has put on the dog s leash. One of the most important aspects of resistance is
refusing. This is because it shows what a person believes in and what a person will do to achieve their
beliefs. In genocide, few people resist the group in power because most victims are too afraid to show
what they believe in because of the repercussions. Those who do resist the group in power strongly
believe that what the group in power is doing is wrong. People who resist genocide make a difference

Throughout the book The Faces of Resistance, author Stuart Kallen gives examples of people who
resisted the Holocaust. He does so by going into depth of their situations and in what ways they
resisted the Nazis. One of the examples was a man named Raoul Wallenberg who saved 100,000 lives
at the cost of his own life. Wallenberg gave Jews passports bearing the Swedish seal. Wallenberg set
up hospitals, nurseries, and soup kitchens. When Nazis began death marches Wallenberg issued
thousands of Swedish safe passes. He followed groups of Nazis that were carrying Jews. Wallenberg
also protested for the release of Jews from German and Hungarian custody. Wallenberg began offering
bribes and he stood between Jews and their captors saying that they should take him instead. He also
forged papers and driver s licenses (Kallen). As seen here, Raoull Wallenberg took every possible step
to ensure he could save as many Jews as possible from captivity. In any genocide, if more people are
brave enough to risk their own lives to save the victims of the genocide, then there would not be
nearly as many casualties. In conclusion, if more people were willing to risk their lives for victims of

The Aeneid Vs Odyssey
Before comparing the actual stories of The Aeneid and The Iliad, one must consider the remarkable
success that the two respective stories have received since their origins in ancient Greece and Rome.
Homer, author of The Iliad and its famous counterpart The Odyssey, is a legendary figure in history.
Some question his actual existence and prefer to regard his two most famous works as stories of oral
tradition that were constructed and refined with thousands of retellings by numerous poets over time.
Others see Homer as a real man who entertained guests with his witty, complex stories and later had
scribes write down his famous words. It will be assumed throughout this paper that Homer did exist
for the sake of simplicity. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the major differences between the overall plot of the two books, the final battle scenes are
remarkably similar. As with anything, there is always a precursor to the end that informs the audience
of the impending crisis that the protagonist will have to face. For the Iliad and the Aeneid, this
precursor comes in the form of a shield given by divine powers. Both Achilles and Aeneas were in
desperate need of a new shield that would not only offer protection against the strongest spear
throwers but also provoke intimidation and wonder. Achilles had given his previous shield to Patrocles
and subsequently lost it to looting due to Patrocles s tragic death. Aeneas, meanwhile, was at the tail
end of an epic journey across much of the ancient world. His people had lost almost everything in the
sacking of Troy and although he had weapons they were not powerful enough and not worthy enough
for the leader of the quest. Both receive shields from divine sponsers. Achilles entreats his mother for
help and she convinces the blacksmith Hephaestus to craft a shield which he makes ...large and strong,

moon, and stars in the middle and complex designs of humans and cattle ringing the outside layers. In

Assessing and Measuring Competitiveness of Commercial...
The main goal of this section is to provide a review on literature and related models to the research
problem. Generally, there are numerous empirical analyses by international scholars about assessing
and measuring competitiveness of commercial banks. However, there is no any study related to this
problem in Vietnam. Firstly, the school using Factor Analysis method to measure competitiveness of
commercial banks, XIA Bin, PAN Bin, và XIA Hui, (2008) said that the sharp change in the
management environment in banking system of China is an important sign to implement researches
and analyses objectively and efficiently. Therefore, in their studies, authors used Factor Analysis

Bilbo Friendships
J. R. R. Tolkien once said, The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you
cannot forever fence it out. We can try to escape any sorts of adventure by clinging to our routine and
repetitious lives, yet it often arrives unexpectedly. For Bilbo Baggins, the prudent protagonist of
J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit, adventure simply arrives on his doorstep. Bilbo had always led a simple
life as a hobbit in the town of Hobbiton, but one day a wizard named Gandalf and thirteen dwarves
convinced him to embark on an adventure to reclaim the dwarves treasure from a nefarious dragon
named Smaug. As a somewhat dysfunctional group, the company faces and overcomes obstacles,
makes unforgettable friendships, and achieves the impossible. ... Show more content on

Before Bilbo s adventure begins, there is already conflict between him and the untidy and uncivilized
dwarves during the unexpected dinner party (13). After this conflict is resolved, with the help of
Gandalf and his encouraging words, and the company starts on their journey, they encounter conflict
with a groups of trolls. Again, Gandalf saves the company from their predicament, but it is only
moments later when the group faces more conflict. Additionally, throughout the entirety of the novel,
there is Character versus Character conflict present between Bilbo and Thorin. Their contrasting
personalities cause them to disagree on most decisions and to not develop faith in each other. And, it is
not until the very end of the novel, only moments before his death, that Thorin expresses, I wish to
part in friendship from you (262) allowing him and Bilbo to put all of their disputes behind them.
Bilbo and the corrupted hobbit Gollum also display Character versus Character conflict but on a much
more radical level. Initially, Gollum attempts to eat Bilbo but is then persuaded to engage in a riddle
contest in order to decide Bilbo s fate. The two exchange several riddles such as, voiceless it cries,
wingless it flutters, toothless bites, mouthless mutters [wind] (70) before Bilbo asks an unanswerable
question and loses Gollum s confidence. The conflict

  • 2. Genocide during the Bosnian War Raphael Lemkin described genocide as acts of barbarism that should be outlawed, even in times of war . Lemkin is right. Genocide is a cruel vicious act that I do not wish upon my greatest enemies. It is torture and death. A lot of people think genocide is a thing of the past. After all it is 2014 already. We are so much more advanced and connected then back during the time of the Holocaust. A genocide started just 22 years ago and it was during the Bosnian War. The Bosnian Genocide was atrocious because it classified and dehumanized a religion, it allowed for the extermination of a people based on religion and the murderers denied they ever committed a crime and tried to cover the deaths up. Serbs who stayed friendly with Muslim neighbors or tried to protect them were considered traitors, and they were dealt with harshly (Ching). The prisoners in the camps were beaten, denied food and water, housed in horrific conditions, sexually assaulted, tortured, and finally killed (Bosnian Genocide). There was no food, little water, and a lot of fear (Bosnia 1995). Some detainees there were killed on a pyre of burning tires, while others were forced to load dead bodies onto trucks, or to dig their own graves. As many as fifty thousand Muslim girls and women, aged nine to sixty, were raped by Serbian soldiers and volunteers. This made them unfit, according to Muslim culture, to be either wives or mothers (Ching). The Serbian soldiers would declare after rape that the women had given birth to Serbian babies. Due to these incidents, many of the female captives lost all of their strength and suffered from a number of sexually transmitted infections. The first goal of the Serbs was to wipe out the educated, the intellectuals, the wealthy, and any other non Serbs who actively opposed their rule. By June 1994, fewer than 50,000 remained in their home and the area had been determined purified . (The Combat). Most Bosnian Croats and Serbs had the option of fleeing to Croatia and Serbia. • 3. kant Essay Kants Critiques of Pure reason and Groundwork of the Metaphysics Kant states that, In the order of time, therefore, we have no knowledge antecedent to experience, and with experience all our knowledge begins, but although all of our knowledge begins with experience, it does not follow that it all arises out of experience, (CPR,41). What he means is that we do not rely on experience inorder to have knowledge, but knowledge and experience are connected for to have knowledge we must begin with experience. There are four types of knowledge that Kant deduced. A priori, which is knowledge that is independent of experience, knowledge which is always true, does not rely on a person to experience it inorder for one to realize that it is true. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant affirms that, Judgments of experience, as such, are one and all synthetic, (CPR, 49). This makes sense because it would not make sense to found an analytic judgment on experience. Kant thinks that the general problem of pure reason is contained in the question: How are apriori synthetic judgments possible? Kant postulates that if he is able to figure out or understand the conditions in which the sciences are possible to exist he can also figure out the conditions of which a priori synthetic judgments can exist. Kant defines pure reason as, that which contains the principles whereby we know anything absolutely a priori. Phenomena is an object as it is perceived by the senses, as opposed to a noumena which is an object as it is in itself independent of the mind (the thing in itself). Rational beings may align their quot;will quot; either with the objective laws of reason and morality or with subjective needs and interests. Reason s demands may be called quot;imperatives. quot; quot;Hypothetical imperatives quot; command that a particular action is necessary as a means to some purpose, such as the attainment of personal happiness. Categorical imperatives require that some action is necessary in and of itself. Thus the categorical imperative may be formulated as follows: act only in such a way that you could want the maxim of your action to become a universal law. This statement can ... For the times I couldn t, I wouldn t give up or get bored; I d turn the book to see the picture from a different angle. I would spend hours if I had to, ignoring my sore muscles just to spot a red and white shirt. Over the years, this particular question has changed numerous times and possessed a myriad of disparate forms, but my childhood attitude and resilience towards a question, any type of question, would stay unchanged. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finding answers can be very fulfilling, and so can finding new questions. There are yet more questions out there. The idea of incorporating the abstractness of radiology and its depth of knowledge on the human body with an actual body needing intervention was something that genuinely intrigued me. Consequently, after I graduated from medical school, I joined the research team of the Interventional Radiology Section at the University of Wisconsin, Madison to study intra arterial therapies. My hard work as a volunteer was appreciated, and I was offered a paid research position to investigate novel imaging modalities and thermal ablation treatments. In the pursuit of my destination, I ve learned a lot from my experiences through my competencies and curiosity. However, good mentoring and teamwork have also been vital in my development as a doctor and a scientist. Can Waldo still hide for long if I have extra eyes and know where to look at? That is why I want to pursue my training in the US, where I can most resourcefully shape myself to become a competent radiologist. To this end, I believe spending my preliminary year in surgery would further enhance my motor skills and the patient care I provide while it would advance my knowledge of anatomy and give me the opportunity to personally experience the dynamics of the human body. • 5. Physician Remuneration Case Study In 2010 11, Ontario spent, 40.3% of its total spending on healthcare programs and it was determined that if left unchecked this trend would expand to more than 44% by 2017 18 (Drummond, 2012). Physician remuneration accounts for the third largest share of health dollars (15.5%), behind only pharmaceuticals (15.7%) and hospitals (29.5%) (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2015). These three categories are by far the largest single categories of expenditure and when combined represent 60% of total health spending. In this case the principle is the government, which has an objective of maximizing the health care of Ontario while also efficiently utilizing resources to keep costs low. However the government (principle) cannot achieve this on its own and need physicians (the agent) to carry out the task related to health improvement. The government aims to motivate physician through financial incentives to improve health, nonetheless physicians are always striving to increase their own utility via higher income, which occurs as a direct result of patients visits to the physician which is higher when the population is unhealthy. This represents an endless cycle of repetition, where the government wishes to improve health status but the intrinsic value of physician remuneration is a direct result of the lack of health in the population. This results in the fee for service model being both technically inefficient and costly since physicians have a financial incentive to over utilize resources such as conducting exams that may not necessarily be needed. Furthermore due to the nature of Universal health care patients also have also a tendency to over utilize health services, as individuals do not personally incur costs for accessing health services. This leads to the expressed demand curve of health care being higher than it should if it were solely based on necessity (Figure 1). Each extra unnecessary access of healthcare provides diminishing marginal benefit in large part due to opportunity cost. If a patient did not access said health care their time could have gone towards a different activity that has a higher marginal benefit. As a result true marginal social benefit is lower than modeled and utility decreases overall as the public healthcare model and fee for service model for physicians results in over utilization regardless of the ... Ocean Climate Change Essay #1 Over the years, climate change has affected marine species because it has increased the ocean temperature, causing it to get warmer, which is causing a negative impact to most marine organisms like echinoderms and cnidarians (Quinn, 2016). In many cases, the optimum temperature of growth increased 1 6°C, which created harmful effects on stages of development (Quinn, 2016). In some cases such as the American lobster (Homarus americanus), warming of the ocean had caused smaller body sizes (Le Bris et al., 2016). Even though there is some research that showed that the warm temperature could also benefit the lobster s population, most of their population has declined in the warmest and southernmost regions of the lobster s range in places like southern New England and Long Island Sound (Quinn, 2016). In this study, it also shows that the increase in temperatures causes the lobsters to molt faster and have lower increments of average growth (Le Bris et al., 2016). They also collected water temperatures from May to October, and their results portrayed that there was a 2.8 millimeters decrease in the height of lobsters for every 1°C in temperature in the ocean (Le Bris et al., 2016), which shows climate change has directly affected the American lobster s size. In the experiment, there were not a lot of limiting factors, but they should have mentioned whether the increase in ocean temperatures affected the development pattern of the lobsters. Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism. Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t help wondering if you are responsible in some way. Environmental factors include a broad range of influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in combination with environmental ones. • 25. Family Life Revealed In Taoist Writings Have you ever heard of Taoist Writings? Taoist Writings were initially created to provide guidance to wise rulers or those who wished to live wisely. Through the poem, Tao Te Ching, I learned that the culture centuries ago believed that life happens to you and nothing you do can change it. Therefore, they preferred to sit back and accept their fate. In this poem, there are fundamentals that we still in modern times live by. For instance, we both believe family is the most important thing in our life. A quote from the poem that proves they held this value, In family life, be completely present (Mitchell 414). A concrete example from modern times that proves we have this value is Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving, we get together with our family to celebrate. It is believed that without a family it is difficult to live happily since there is no one to cherish and appreciate you. Without a family, you can not share your happiness. When these policies received government support, vast numbers of people of color, white women and men have gained access they would not otherwise have had. These gains have led to very real changes. Affirmative action programs have not eliminated racism, nor have they always been implemented without problems. However, there would be no struggle to roll back the gains achieved if affirmative action policies were ineffective. However, the South reacted by passing the Black Codes, which severely limited the rights of the newly freed slaves, preventing them in most states from testifying in courts against whites, limiting their opportunities to find work, and generally assigning them to the status of second or third class citizen. White vigilante groups like the Klu Klux Klan began to appear, by murdering and terrorizing blacks who tried to exercise their new rights. Legal ways were also found for circumventing the new laws; these included grandfather clauses , poll taxes, white only primary elections, and constant social discrimination against and intimidation of blacks, who were excluded form education and from any job except the most menial. Affirmative action has had its greatest amount of success in city, state, and government jobs. • 27. The Lost Type Co-Op As I was searching through various font foundries through Google search I came across one that piqued my interest the font foundry was Lost Type Co Op. They caught my eye because they have produced some really great vintage and retro style fonts. I also chose this font foundry because they have an unusual font buying system where they leave their visitors with the choice to pay what they can afford for the fonts on the site. They left it this way expecting people to have a moral code and to pay what they felt the font was deserving; as well as giving designers with little means the ability to purchase fonts to use in their designs. After doing a little digging through more searches I found the history of how the Lost Type Co Op was founded. It originally started off as a bet between the co founders Riley Cran and Tyler Galpin after finding a 1940 s Ball glass jar poster both designers were enamored with the secondary font promoting the glass jars. Cran bet Galpin that he could produce a full alphabet of the font face in 24 hours; Galpin said if he could he would make a website for the font. 24 hours and some collaboration later the Font Muncie was completed. They offered Muncie up to the design community as a completely free typeface. My maternal grandmother s family came from Sonder Stenderup of Jutland, Denmark and my maternal grandfather s family is of German descent. The original family name was Gron, however my great grandfather change the surname to Green in order to sound more American. My mother s grandparents came from Jutland, Denmark in 1905 and my grandmother was born in Racine in 1920. The only characteristic I inherited from that side of the family is my punctuality, my outspokenness, and my ability to drink. I grew up in a three bedroom, one bathroom house with my mother and four brothers along with a neighborhood full of kids (mostly boys). I have three older brothers; 10, 9, and 8 years older and one brother who is three years younger than me. My older brothers all joined the service as they turned of age, therefore it created a split upbringing for me. Up until I was 8, I was treated as the baby sister and my younger brother and I were constantly dragged to my older brother s friends houses. My mother worked quite a bit, therefore, my eldest brother was in charge of the rest of the clan, however, he usually delegated one of the other two brothers to watch me my younger brother. We did not know any English so my siblings and I were placed in a school that had an English as a Second Language program specifically designed for immigrant students. I remember being pulled out of my normal classroom regularly to work with teachers and other students on activities that were designed to teach me English. The memory that stands out to me the most when thinking of those classes are the teachers who patiently worked with me sounding out words in books or writing sentences. The teachers made me excited about learning even when I was pulled out of my regular class at times when we were watching a movie or playing games. One day we were reading out loud in class and I nervously raised my hand to volunteer to read. I began reading the sentence in my small timid voice and as I continued reading I heard the voice of a girl who was comfortable and assured in the words she was speaking. There were no unsure pauses or nervous stutters in my reading and I remember feeling a sense of triumph that I could read so clearly. • 30. The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no courts, labor, and is a day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of church and state, Christmas is considered a legal holiday and one needs to question the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when one looks at the concept of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in today s modern society. Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal holiday due to the fact that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays that recognize other religions. The United States does not have a recognized national religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally recognized holidays. In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of view on this matter. Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American Lexicographer, between a holiday and a holy day, where by the latter should be used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the former should rather denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the common impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day of rest and legal inaction? • 31. Compare David And Goliath One of the most distinctive images from Caravaggio s post Roman work is his tragically famous rendering of David with the Head of Goliath (Fig. 10). Compared with the jubilance David is expressed as having in the original Bible verse (I Samuel 17:20 58) the image of David in Caravaggio s interpretation is much more solemn, pensive and brooding. The young David gazes at the decapitated head of Goliath not in pride, but almost in pain. The furrowed brow of the young boy suggests some sort of discomfort, which leads analysts to consider the painter s mental state at the time. The story of David and Goliath is known to be about humility defeating pride, something Caravaggio could be desperate to prove in this year of his life. The artist was still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The presentation drew the attention of countless art critics who were now interested in investigating the final tragic years of a once great artist. While relatively small, with only sixteen paintings out of the suggested twenty one that Caravaggio completed after fleeing Rome (twenty two if you count the Nativity, which was stolen thirty five years ago in Palermo) the exhibit is still awe inspiring and emphasizes not only the talent of Caravaggio, but also the speed with which he was able to work. Richard Spear echoes this accomplishment in his article Late Caravaggio: Naples and London, noting, nearly half of the twenty two paintings are big, multi figured canvases. Even granting that Caravaggio painted quickly during his last phase, this is an impressive output over four years from an artist who had to resettle six times in five different cities and spent a month in prison . The speed at which he created these works, however, was not at the price of their extravagance. David Packwood, author of A Brush with Death applauds Caravaggio for these later pieces, saying, it is astounding that he produced such a body of original and innovative work during a period when he seems to have been fearful for his life . As examined above, the fear that Caravaggio was feeling was no doubt channeled into many of these exceptional works, especially in those in which his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tolkien showed to those paying attention that his books were not just frivolous fantasy. If you look to his war experiences, you notice that Bilbo in The Hobbit, like Tolkien, was torn from his peaceful home and tossed into unfamiliar and dangerous new surroundings. In The Lord of the Rings, the way Sauron ravages Middle earth is strikingly similar to that of Hitler in World War II (J.R.R. Tolkien). When reading The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, one would hopefully notice that The Lord of the Rings is much darker than its predecessor. However, The Hobbit can take on a deeper meaning when one considers that through Bilbo, we are connected to Tolkien s personal experiences and emotions during war; it s not just a silly children s book. The Big Three were three powerful leaders from three powerful nations. They would be Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau and David Lloyd George, of the USA, France and the UK respectively. Woodrow Wilson encouraged self determination, as he saw smaller countries less of a threat. This was included in the Treaty of Versailles. Russia was taken over by communists in 1917.
