High Priest who performed the rites of the Gods of MOUNTMADYA-
AS.
5. CHARACTERS
LABAW DONGGON:
Eldest Son of Datu Paubari and Alunsina, brother of humadapnon and
dumalapdap.
MANALINTAD:
The first monster that Labaw Donggon killed. (eto yung pinutol yung buntot
para sa dowry).
ANGOY GINBITINAN:
Beautiful maiden from Handug. First wife of Labaw Donggon.
6. CHARACTERS
SIKAY PADALOGDOG:
Giant with a hundred arms. Second monster killed by LabawDonggon.
ABYANG DURUNUUN:
Maiden from Tarambang Burok, second wife of LabawDonggon, sister of
sumpoy.
SUMPOY:
Lord of the Underworld, Brother of Abyang Durunuun.
7. CHARACTERS
SARAGNAYAN:
Lord of Darkness, Undefeated enemy of Labaw Donggon, Husband
ofMalitong Yawa Sinagmaling Diwata.
MALITONG YAWA SINAGMALING DIWATA:
Young wife of Saragnayan, she is from Gadlum.
ASO MANGGA:
Son of Labaw Donggon and Angoy Ginbitinan.
8. CHARACTERS
ABYANG BARANUGON:
Son of Labaw Donggon and Abyang Durunuun, He set hisfather free by
defeating Saragnayan (niloko kasi siya na bumalik na sa nanay siya,nakakabit
pa kasi umbilical cord niya).
HUMADAPNON:
Brother of Labaw Donggon and Dumalapdap, Son of Datu Paubari and
Alunsina (siya yung naghigante sa mga tao ni saragnayan cos’ kinawawa yung
brother niya na si labaw donggon).
9. CHARACTERS
BUYONG MATANAYON:
Swordsman from Mount Matiula, trusted friend ofhumadapnon.
PIGANUN:
A sorceress from Talagas Kuting-tang, tricked humadapnon.
DATU UMBAW PINAUMBAW:
Ruler of Piniling Tubig (siya yung ipapakasal yunganak niya sa kung sino
man ang tatanggal daw nung malaking boulder).
10. CHARACTERS
DAUGHTER:
Daughter of Datu Umbaw Pinaumbaw, first wifey of Humadapnon.
MINSTREL:
Someone who sings with a harp accompaniment.
BURIGADANG PADA SINAKLANG BULAWAN:
Goddess of Greed, Second wife of Humadapnon.
15. EXPOSITION
The epic opens with the goddess of the sky named Alunsina whose
father, the king of gods, kaptan, obliged her to be married. Many gods in
various domains of the universe attempted to win Alunsina’s heart.
However, she chose Datu Paubari, the leader of Halawod causing the
enragement of her admirers. The gods planned to destroy Halawod by
flood. Luckily, Suklang Malayon warned the couple that they should protect
themselves from harm by going on a higher ground. After the flood,
Alunsina and Paubari, lived near the mouth of Halawod River secretly.
16. RISING ACTION
Months have passed; Alunsina bore triplets named Labaw
Donggon, Humadapnon, and Dumalapdap then asked the help
of Bungot-Banwa to perform a ritual to guarantee the good
health of the infants. After the ceremony, a cold wind came
from a window that made the triplets mighty and good-looking
men.
17. CLIMAX
Labaw Donggon’s first journey is for Angoy Ginbitinan. He fought
Manalintad, a monster and he defeated the creature through the help of
his magic belt. His success in battle is part of the marriage settlement
between him and Angoy Ginbitinan. Labaw Donggon’s second quest is for
Abyang Durunuun’s hand. Because of his might, he defeated the giant
named Sikay Padalogdog to pass a ridge and won the heart of Abyang
Durunuun and also, took her home. Labaw Donggon’s last journey was for
the hand of Malitong Yawa, the bride of
Saragnayan, the lord of darkness.
18. CLIMAX
Labaw Donggon challenged him to a fight for Malitong Yawa but he was
defeated and imprisoned under Saragnayan’s house. Later on, Labaw
Donggon’s wives bore sons named Aso Mangga and Abyang Baranugon
who fought and defeated Saragnayan for their father’s freedom. Labaw
Donggon’s defeat made Humadapnon angry. He promised to revenge on
Saragnayan’s followers with the help of a swordsman named Buyong
Matanayon. Humadapnon and Buyong came to Tarambang Buriraw and
were tricked by sorceress named Piganun.
19. CLIMAX
After seven months, Buyong helped the unconscious Humadapnon to
escape. Humadapnon and Buyong continued their journey and went to
Piniling Tubig that is ruled by Datu Umbaw Pinaumbaw who was giving her
daughter for marriage to whoever could remove the boulder at the centre
of the village. Humadapnon was able to remove the boulder and married
the Datu’s daughter. After the wedding, he seeked for the hand of the
goddess of greed, Burigang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan.
20. CLIMAX
During his journey, he encountered Buyong Makabagtang who was also on
the same agenda. Humadapnon fought Makabagtang, won, married the
goddess of greed, and brought her home. Dumasig and Dumalapdap went
to a place called Tarambuan-ka-banwa where they encountered and
executed a two-headed monster Balanakon. Upon entering a gate where
Lubay-Lubyok Hanginun si Mahuyokhuyokon lives, a bloody battle between
Dumalapdap and Uyutang, a bat-like monster occurred for several months.
21. CLIMAX
On the seventh month, Dumalapdap was able to kill the monster by
breaking its ankle and stabbing its armpit. The monster cried out causing an
earthquake that formed the island of Negros and Panay.
22. FALLING ACTION
Dumalapdap married Lubay-Lubyok Hanginun si
Mahuyokhuyokon. Datu Paubari prepared a feast when he was
reunited with his sons.
23. DENOUEMENT
After the celebration, the triplets journeyed to the different
parts of the world; Labaw Donggon went to the North,
Humadapnon to the South, Dumalapdap to the West, and Datu
Paubari stayed in the East.
27. LESSON
•True and faithful love shall and always prevail. Deference to your
parents and elders will always be rewarded.
• Listen to the counsel of your parents.
• Do not remove yourself from the right path.
• Do not succumbed to temptation for it will lead you to tragedy and
failure.
