Differences Between 16th and 19th Century Imperialism
The Differences Between 16th and 19th Century Imperialism and their Effects on the World Today.

1. What is imperialism ? How did 19th century colonialism, empire building, high imperialism differ
from those of earlier times: in particular from the colonialism of early modern mercantilism (16th
to18th centuries)?

For example, the original thirteen colonies that Britain established on North America s east coast have
gone on to become the world s main superpower, the United States of America. Britain s colony in
China, Hong Kong, has gone on to become Asia s premiere financial center with Singapore (another
British jewel) trailing just behind. Even Britain s prisoners set up the only first world country in the
Southern Hemisphere, Australia! Compare this to Spain s imperial efforts, for example Mexico is the
only third world country in North America and has always struggled to overcome a legal system
plagued with corruption. Why is it that the British colonies were so successful and the colonies of
other countries such failures in comparison? I feel the answer to that is British law. British law has
been a keystone in these colonies success. Their political ideals have helped sculpt the success stories
of the modern world, albeit there have been some failures such as India and Rhodesia where there
were civilians revolting against their new leaders. The British education system helped produce a new
class of educated Africans and Asians that were able seek employment once they had completed their
schooling.
16th Century Imperialism
Imperialism in the fifteenth century was new and exciting, the rules were unwritten. People believed
back then that the civilized world back owed it to the rest of the world

Obamacare Controversy
Acts never pass through Congress without opposition. Someone in Congress always opposes a bill,
sometimes without sensible rationale. When a bill affects as many people as the Affordable Care Act
does, it can spark heated debates and controversy on an extremely large scale. Right from the start, the
country has split in two over this act. Although the ACA is often the subject of criticism and censure, it
helps millions of people across the country on a daily basis. Susceptible to manipulation, some
American people have become so influenced by their political parties, the parties opinions trample
original thought. As Kevin Drum comments, Republicans hate the idea that Barack Obama is
responsible for a pretty successful program, and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Kaiser Foundation s studies indicate that, despite a forty seven percent majority that has an
unfavorable opinion of the bill, they want to reform it, not repeal it (Cohn par. 1). America s
population dislikes the ACA, but they generally agree that this country needs an affordable healthcare
system. All the politicians who advocate for repealing the law do not represent the general public.
Statistics from Olga Khazan show that seventy four percent of Republicans want the ACA majorly
reformed, not repealed (par. 2). That many Republicans want the ACA drastically changed rather than
eliminated which means they want a better system. Unfortunately, many Republican politicians do not
share these ideas. Achieving a good healthcare system could happen more quickly once everyone
works together instead of against each

The Road Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka ( 347 U.s.
Historical Setting The road to Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (347 U.S. 74 (1954)), is littered
with many Supreme Court cases that have battled for equality in education. The Fourteenth
Amendment strengthened the legal rights of newly slaves and became the stomping ground for many
Supreme Court decisions. There were six separate cases concerning the issue of segregation in public
schools that was heard and consolidated into the one case named Brown v. Board of Education. The
cases included were Brown v. Board of Education (347 U.S. 483), Briggs v. Elliott (342 U.S. 497),
Davis v. County School Board of Prince Edward County (347 U.S. 483), Bolling v. Sharpe (347 U.S.
497), Belton v. Gebhart (347 U.S. 483) and Bulah v. Gebhart, (347 U.S. 483), which discussed the
implications of segregation in public school. The Brown case decision could not have happened prior
to 1954 if these cases had not set a precedent for violations of the Fourteenth Amendment under the
equal protection clause. In the case Plessy v. Fergguson (163 U.S. 537(1896)), this case was
responsible for the separate but equal doctrine, where segregation began. In the case, Sweatt v. Painter
(339 U.S. 629), African American law students fought for an equal opportunity education. These cases
also helped set the precedent for the Brown v. Board of Education case. In the case, Missouri ex rel

Walter Mitty, in the story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, can be considered to be

like to go more than forty. You were up to fifty five (Thurber 1). Walter Mitty is forced to adjust
because of her wife s preferences, showing him as limited in the actions he takes as a cause of the

Some materials that appear homogenous are actually a mixture of different substances, one example
being ink. To see what colors make up black ink, one can allow the substance to move across a fixed,
absorbent material such as paper. This technique, called chromatography, is a forensic method of
separating a mixture of chemicals into their individual components. Although the separation of colors
is the most elementary application of chromatography, the process of a liquid or gas mixture moving
over a stationary state of matter (liquid or solid) is a tool used by local and federal law enforcement to

The article brings to some interesting views on the futures of colleges and the experience that goes
along with that first important step into adulthood. He brings some serious points to the argument.
First, the traditional college experience versus an online college experience. Next, the quality of the
online course information, as well as, having a tenured professor or an average non degreed person

Ethical Behavior Is Important For The Welfare Of Society
Growing up we are taught by our parent about the law but ethics is something we pick up from our
environment and our peers. Ethical behavior is important for the welfare of society as a whole. What
we can and cannot do is inherently instilled in us from a very young age. In today s competitive
market, ethics is one of the most important aspects to business development. Business decisions are
implemented with a right and wrong mentality. To a business ethics is an instrument used to exam
principles and morals in a business environment because something for example polluting the
environment may be legal but is it moral for a company to do so? Therefore, business ethics helps to

The stakeholder approach is intended to provide a flexible way for managers to match these interests.
This approach helps management anticipate future elements and develop plans to combat any
problems that might occur. Stakeholders are also concerned with the survival of their company. So for
a company to be successful, stakeholders must implement a course of action that positively affects
themselves and their community.
Werther mentions that the stakeholder approach enables firms to respond to the dominant trends in
society today globalization, rapidly evolving communication technologies, and ever increasing
expectations of social goals beyond profit maximization (Werther, 2011, p.34.). Here he explains the
importance of generating profits but also explains the benefits that come from maximizing a company
s profits.
Another author calls attention to the importance of investing in the relationships with those who have
a stake in the firm. The stability of these relationships depends on the sharing of core principles and
values. This approach allows management to incorporate their personal values into the implementation
of strategic plans. Schendel describes this relationship by answering the question What do we stand

Foundation Of Engineering Ethics And Values
Foundation of Engineering Ethics and Values Interaction between Ethics and Technology
SUBMITTED BY SHIRISH KUMAR KATA 1498381 ADVISOR Prof. Colin Doyle OKLAHOMA
CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT: At the outset morals and innovation appear to have no
collaboration. On the other hand, we see the impact of morals on innovation both from the calling and
the general population. Case in point the code of expert morals has changed the techniques in
distinctive parts of science, building and innovation, and has given a specific heading to the sorts of
tasks done, their degree, and executions. The affectability of customers to pick good values has
additionally brought about the alter of course for some advances. Open investment in science and
innovation and the legitimate stations are alternate components that shape the impact of morals on
engineering. All the more disputably on the other side we see the effect of engineering on morals. One
can contend how and why the absolute most theoretical thoughts like regulating moral hypotheses or
Kantian morals have been responses to the progressions in science and engineering. Also, the impacts
of mechanical change have significantly impacted cutting edge relativistic morals. Innovation has
given new potential outcomes to human life and made new moral inquiries as well. It could be said,
Connected morals is the result of mechanical improvement. I. INTRODUCTION

E-Commerce and the Global Market
Electronic commerce (e commerce) over the Internet is the fastest growing method for consumers to
conduct business. Less than ten years old and it already has radically altered the potential to economic
activities and the social environment. There are nearly 200 million Internet users worldwide currently.
Of these 200 million users, roughly 40 percent reside in the United States (Styliano, A., Robbins, S.
Jackson, P., 2003). E commerce currently affects large sectors such as communications, banking and
the retail industry. E commerce has also had an effect on the education, health and government
(Wyckoff, A., Colecchia A., 1999). It is predicted that commerce on the Internet could total tens of
billions of dollars by the turn of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been some negative effects on the economy due to the emergence of e commerce. It is
assumed that the availability of goods online should increase competition but this does not always
occur. Reputable companies who have majority control over their industry can sometimes maintain
high prices. Further, the Internet allows companies to obtain pricing information from their
competitors companies easily and allows them to react immediately to external changes. Company
monitoring can also work against consumers. Since other companies can quickly change their price,
the original company would not make any extra revenue from increased sales (LaRose, R.,2000).
There is also the issue of product differentiation. Increased competition due to ecommerce allows
companies to better create products especially for a certain target audience. This makes it difficult for
consumers to compare products and lessens the competition and keep prices high.
As electronic commerce expands it has a greater social impact. The social impact of e commerce is
characterized by the globalization of markets, the shift towards an economy based on knowledge and
information, and the growing prominence of technology in everyday life (Jones, B., n.d.). As e
commerce expands, there becomes a greater need to improve education about the business and
technical side of e commerce. Traditional educational institutions will have to

The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission
Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the
Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full
retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy
lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese
forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours
are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move
during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons
are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads;
we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers
approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the
forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be
faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest
that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be
debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Friendly forces will

Goneril, the eldest daughter of King Lear, portrays the influence of lust on morality through her
increasing malevolence. Shakespeare depicts her character with a strong thirst for power yet still

Furthermore, the symbolic use of goatish establishes the lecherous nature of man that tempts
Gloucester to commit adultery. The mythological allusion with the reference to the constellations
symbolizes the lascivious, demonic nature, which dictates the superstitious belief that an illegitimate
son born outside of marriage, like Edmund, is ineluctably evil in nature. Despite Gloucester s blame
on the nature, his sin brings disturbance to the order of the universe with the birth of his bastard son,
which results in his nemesis as the retribution of his indulgence in lust. Shakespeare s use of expletive,
fut , establishes Edmund s despise towards his father, who brings him to this world due to his failure
to resist the temptation, yet labels him illegitimate for his own flaws. Hence, Shakespeare establishes
that Gloucester s hamartia is the weakness in resisting temptation and his ignorance that fails to

1. Pre existing cultures are often threatened by the immigration of diverse cultures. Two percent of the
world s population are living in a country they were not born in. Yet even though they make up a small
piece of the total population they often are seen as a cultural threat to the native ninety eight percent.
With an influx of new cultural and religious ideas, natives rush to preserve their way of life. A drive
toward destructive integrity is a phrase that means arrestment of expression. Clifford Geertz, the one
who coined the phrase, meant that dominant cultural groups require minority groups to conform to the
mainstream and popular way of life. In class we discussed how borders often can result in a change in
identity and ethnicity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where should the line be drawn in our society? Also, as importantly, who should be the ones who
make the decision of what is a good life for individuals. Shweder did not provide an answer because it
is evident that there really is no generalized answer that one can give. Each problem that arises must
be taken on a case by case basis. Shweder stressed the importance of cultural anthropologists
weighing ethnographic facts before judging what is to be done. This relates to our class discussion
about the importance of realizing that most cultural practice has underlying logic. This fact is often

Challenges of Leadership
Leadership Book Analysis
Modern World Leaders Angela Merkel
The person chosen for this leadership report is Angela Merkel. I read Modern World Leaders Angela
Merkel written by Clifford W. Mills. Being born in Berlin, with my pride in being German, as well as
being a female with my own leadership ambitions, I felt Angela Merkel was a perfect fit for me.
Gaining knowledge on the leadership style from one of the most powerful and influential women in
the world, while also learning the values and beliefs my country is grounded on, I find Angela Merkel
to be extremely interesting leader to study. Angela Merkel (born Angela Dorothea Kasner), was born
in Hamburg, Germany on July 17, 1954. Angela ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Germany teachers quiet strict and at one point she had a teacher that would punish the entire class if
a presentation differed even slightly from what the teacher told them to do. Deep down inside Merkel
knew that the students put in extreme effort into the presentations and that this matter was so serious
that the students could all be expelled from school. After explaining the situation to her parents,
Merkel wrote a petition which she also presented to some GDR officials. Merkels class was saved; the
teacher was later disciplined. I characterize her leadership style as one that is based on ethics and
morals while also being very direct. She is both task oriented as well as relationship oriented. Merkel
focuses on the business task at hand while putting great emphasis relationships and networking... I don
t think it make sense to go round and round in circles arguing about this crisis. We have to manage it
instead. But that s something we can only do together with our neighbors, our partners, the big ones
and the small ones. I think Germany is destined, partly as a result of its geographic position, to be a
mediator and balancing factor.
From this statement I feel as though Merkel is very direct and to the point there is no point in arguing,
let s do something about it. At the same time Merkel puts emphasis on leader member relations.
Previous chancellor Schroeder was known for his extravagant sleigh rides with

Over the course of the past few weeks, students have presented topics regarding pollution and
endangerment of species. However, one of the three most interesting topics for me was the red wolf.
This name is very peculiar, for you would expect it to be more scientific. However, it s sad story just
makes the name look irrelevant. The red wolf has been hunted down by early settlers, making it s
wildlife population to be fourteen. That is shocking, for this unique animal is suffering because of our
needs. However, the thing that caught my eye was not it s dire situation, but the fact that people are
working to help this animal thrive. The Red Wolf Recovery Program oversees the health of this
animal. Now, they are breeding them in captivity and

The Concept Of E Learning Inclusion Into An Education Essay
The Concept of e learning inclusion into an education begins with the teacher and the manner in which
they teach. A simple explanation of the view is that the teacher is the final authority and source of
knowledge. The problem for many teachers is transition of teaching in manner than accommodate the
use of technology. Mining how they have previously been teaching with the use of technology which
gives birth to e learning. In e learning, Technology is simply a mean that teachers may use in different
ways in the new environment than can affect students and results.A teacher mulls to make use of
technology needs to think how it may give a solution a problem of teaching they have within their
learning environment. To overcome this problem in teaching use of e readers could be the best way. It
also overcomes the problem to a lack of textbooks. Another way could be helping students understand
new ideas and concepts with the help e learning platform. Many service organizations in society have

Biological or non biological connections between families in all societies are what make kinships.
Whether one has been raised in a biological family or non biological family, kinship means one is still
oriented to the family they have. In a story where two babies were born in the same hospital, they
were switched at birth. These two women grew up in non biological families, but still consider their

The Freedom Of The Press
1) One of the most important American documents is the Bill of Rights. This Bill of Rights essentially
protects Americans from the government. Among the ten original amendments, the first amendment is
often looked at as one of the most important, protecting the right to practice religion, to assemble, to
petition the government, and the freedom of the press. The protection of these rights is essential to
help maintain the United States a free and democratic country. I believe the most important rights are
the right to practice religion and the freedom of the press. As I will explain in my essay, these two
rights are paramount to the success of a democratic country. The first amendment stands as a reminder
of our roots as a country of citizens who wanted to give the most representation and voice to the
people as possible. As a result of this fiery resilience to a dictatorship, the Bill of Rights was created as
a way to preserve many rights enjoyed by free men. Among this Bill of Rights was the first
amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the
free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. One way to
remember the freedoms granted in this amendment is R.A.P.P.S (Religion, Assembly, Petition, Press,
and Speech). Practicing religion is one of the oldest behaviors in human existence.

Folsom Powerhouse Accomplishments
Perched high above the shore of Lake Natoma, Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park displays the
work of men who were critical to the creation of electric power systems in use today. The
Powerhouse, with its original 1895 equipment, illustrates how power systems were constructed in the
late 19th century. It is the work of a General Electric (GE) Corporation team of many brilliant
individuals whose contributions were not always recognized in their lifetimes. Many attempts have
been made to describe the significance and stunning accomplishments of the Folsom Powerhouse. The
word first is commonly used. This claim is sometimes incorrectly applied and does not do justice to

In 1884, Judge Lorenzo Sawyer s ruling against the North Bloomfield Mining and Gravel Company
(for the full story, see Malakoff Diggings) ended hydraulic mining and created a base of unemployed
workers with journeyman skills in hydro engineering. Their experience with penstocks and monitor
nozzles was invaluable, and they were eager for work. As mine shafts replaced hydraulic mining, a
power source was needed to operate water pumps, air pumps, stamp mills, lighting, and other
machinery. Steam power plants required boilers, piping, the ongoing costs of coal or wood fuel, and a
significant workforce to run the operation. Even with the cost of building dams, hydroelectricity was a
less expensive option. One of the first recorded uses of hydroelectric power for mining in California
was the 1889 DC powerhouse for the Dalmatia mine in El Dorado County. Mine owners whose
facilities were distant from a water source were eager to try the new AC technology. Those that did
began achieving milestone transmission distances. Poly phase

The Time Management Procedures I Have Developed
Two time management procedures I have developed in my internship are keeping a weekly agenda

meetings and tasks into a standard form. As you complete the tasks throughout the following week,
you check off the line items. At the close of business on Friday, you are asked to grade your PPC. Any
tasks that were not completed are marked as such, and you are required to explain why the task was
not finished as promised. This practice gets me to work on only promising tasks that can be managed

Utilizing a white board in your office promotes a community atmosphere that allows for productive
conversation.
The main problem I have encountered is planning for the future. In the business world, it is impossible
to tell what problems will come up. On any given day your priorities can change from that you have
planned. It is important to recognize the highest priorities and to tackle those items first so that you
can get to the items of lower priority before they become critical.
I get to work each morning at 6:30. The first thing I do is check my PPC, email, and outstanding RFIs
(requests for information) and submittals. Shortly afterwards I go to a daily engineer huddle where
there is a discussion of each engineer s planned tasks for the day. If there is time after the meeting, I

The Perils And Privileges Of Auto Ethnography
Reading Response Week 4: The Perils and Privileges of Auto Ethnography
Although not mentioned in this week s Marshall/Rossman chapter, feminism and autoethnography has
popped up before in prior readings, so there is some familiarity with both concepts. Now comes what
their synthesis looks like in practice. In this light the readings forced me to re examine positionality,
especially in the framework of auto ethnography. At first I thought this was too obvious but in light of
the titular question Stacey asks Can There Be a Feminist Ethnography? the feminist researcher s
proximity to the data and interpretation positionality becomes the fraught answer to consider, Her
awkwardness (if that s the right word) in balancing the tightrope as an ethical researcher between
product and personal integrity feels unexpected yet palpable. The dilemma she faces forced my
recognition that conflicts of interest and emotion between the ethnographer as authentic, related
person (i.e. participant), and as exploiting researcher (i.e. observer) (23). I feel as if she as a feminist
researcher was startled by the dilemma she faced and wonder if her surprise was compounded by not
anticipating it . How much an epiphany is it to learn that participants come with their own agendas?
Therefore participants come with their own inherent powers which threaten to usurp the researcher
and her own objectives. In the wake of this surprise she asks the provocative introspective question

The Periodic Table Of Elements
Throughout history the periodic table of elements has been influenced and amended by multiple
scientists. These scientists include Johann Dobereiner, A.E Beguyer de Chancourtois, John Newlands,
and Glenn Seaborg. As well as Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev and Lothar Meyer the creators of the
periodic table. There are many ways that the periodic table of elements was set out. For example the
table can be organized using patterns between atomic numbers, electronegativity, ionization energy,
structure (gas or solid) valence electrons and electron configuration (shells) as seen in the modern day
periodic table. Before history was recorded humans had knowledge of certain elements including gold
(Au), copper (Cu), silver (Ag), mercury (Hg), tin (Sn) and lead (Pb). Nevertheless, it wasn t until the
year of 1669 that Hennig Brand discovered the very first element Phosphorous (P) through scientific
inquiry. Hennig Brand discovered phosphorous through extracting it from urine. Due to the element
having the ability to grow in the dark it was referred to as light bearer . In 1980 English chemist
Robert Boyle discovered phosphorous independently, following Hennig Brand keeping the process of
his discovery secret. Additionally, Johann Dobereiner began grouping elements with like properties

Cultural Revolution Of The 1920s Essay
The 1920 s were times of cultural revolution. The times were changing in many different ways.
Whenever the times change, there is a clash between the quot;old quot; and the quot;new quot;
generations. The 1920 s were no exception. In Dayton, Tennessee, 1925, a high school biology teacher
was arrested. He was arrested because he taught the theory of evolution. The teacher, John T. Scopes,
was accused of having violated the Butler Act. This was a Tennessee law that forbade the teaching of
the theory of evolution in public schools. The Tennessee legislature felt that teaching evolution was
wrong because it contradicted the creation theory of the Bible. The Scopes trial received worldwide

U. S. Attorney General Palmer planned a round up of communists. January 2, 1920, he ordered
department raids on meeting halls and homes in thirty cities nationwide to gather all suspected
communists. Twenty seven hundred people were arrested without being charged with a specific crime.
In all, more than 6,000 people were arrested. The raids ended after May 5th. This was due to a
government ruling that mere membership in the party is not in itself a crime. Most people that were
arrested were released, few of the people arrested were actually communists. The Red Scare continued
when on April 1, five legitimately elected members of the New York State legislature were expelled
for being members of the Socialist Party. World War I ended in 1920 with the signing of the Treaty of
Versailles. Russia and the United States were allies during the war. After the war, both became the
world s new superpowers. As the tension between the two nations grew, so did the fear of
Communism. The Ku Klux Klan was a racist organization founded in 1915 by William Simmons. The
KKK s popularity peaked in the 1920 s when its membership exceeded 4 million nationally, with

Catholics, Jews, foreigners, Communists, and organized labor. Stressing white Protestant domination,

Frequency Analysis Paper
In this paper we will analyze a sample recoding of my voice using Audacity, in both the Frequency
Analysis window graph, and also the time domain graph. I ll go over what both graphs above mean,
and what I can tell by the composition of of my voice signal. Likewise, we ll discuss the voice signals
amplitude and bandwidth. As we analyze the graphs we will see how this information could be used to
plan a transmission facility, and why we must be careful to avoid clipping. Furthermore we will dig
deeper and ask the question if, 300 4,000 Hz bandwidth, would sufficient enough for a telephone
system, and then finally end this paper with an explanation why do we want 20 to 20,000 Hz
bandwidth in music systems today. At the end of the paper I am hopeful that the information I provide

The simplest way to put is Frequency means how fast is the signal is changing. In this graph what we
have used is a small sample of an audio recording of my voice. Sound waves can be examined in
relationships of their amplitude and frequency. In the frequency analysis graph the recoding is then
plotting a graph of frequency (x axis, in Hz) versus intensity (y axis, in dB). Thus allowing us to be
able to analyze the recording signals with respect to frequency. As in which the other graph allows us
to measure the voice recording in respect with time. So in the frequency analysis graph we can see the
the higher the dB s are the higher the pitch is within that portion of the audio compared to another
fragment of the recording where the dBs are lower. The frequency of a audio wave affects the pitch of
the sound we hear. In the first graph we are able to see the length and how much time/space the

The Controversy About Car Repair Companies
One of the main reasons people complain about car repair companies is that what they thought would
be a very cheap repair ends up costing much more than advertised, or taking longer than expected. In
most cases, this can be avoided by choosing the right car repair company and ensuring that all the
work done is documented and agreed before anything is done to your car. Let s start with selecting a
car repair company. Unless you are in an emergency situation, like your car engine giving up in the
middle of a road trip, chances are you have plenty of time to choose a good and legitimate mechanic
professional to call on when needed. It s always better to ask for referrals, as few people would
recommend a mechanic they didn t have a very good

Methodology We agreed that throughout our research, we must use different methods in order to
collect the most valuable and appropriate information. We used the Cenovus Energy Inc. website,
online newspapers, journals, and magazine articles. Moreover, we used several other sources, such as
Yahoo Finance, the Bloomberg Terminal, the Globe and Mail, Gurufocus and the Oilsands Review to
gather specific data, such as financial statements and the company s capital expenditures. Also we
employed formal methods and ratios to collect numerical data to estimate the size and timing of all the
cash flows from the project. The Cenovus Energy Inc. website is a reliable source that is rich in
information. When we were browsing the website, it was easy to follow and find the information
needed because of the clear organization and listings on the home page. Furthermore, we were able to
find information related to emerging oil projects, operations, and corporate responsibility. Also, we
could find news releases and track the status of the project we were focusing on. Throughout our
research process, we came across many informative newspapers, journals, and magazine articles
relevant to the project. The newspaper articles provided us with information about events that we tied
to certain changes in the financial statements and stock prices of the company. Simultaneously, news

Responses to Arguments against the Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Lowering drinking age has been one of the most controversial issues. It s no secret that Americans
drinks alcohol before the age of twenty one. American s does many other things under the age of
twenty one, but why alcohol the most talked about? The drinking age should be lowered to a younger
age due to the fact that at age eighteen American s can vote, join the military, and is considered an
adult. The 26th Amendment lowered the voting age from twenty one to eighteen, allowing millions of
young people to participate actively in the democratic process and to have a powerful voice in shaping
their political future. Being able to vote is a huge power. Being able to vote gives many Americans the

They spend most of their time writing letters to their families, doing laundry, making meals, and
playing games with other soldiers. If soldiers risk their life fighting for us then why can t they be old
enough to consume alcohol before the age of twenty one? To conclude, if American s are old enough
at the age of eighteen to fight in battle for our country then American s are old enough at age eighteen
to consume alcohol. An adult is a person who by virtue of attaining a certain age, generally eighteen,
is regarded in the eyes of the law as being able to manage his or her own affairs. At age eighteen
American s are responsible for their self. American s can get jobs, get their license, operate a motor
vehicle, marry, enrolled in college, and etc. In addition, at age eighteen, American s are also allowed
to buy cigarettes and tobacco, but not allowed to buy alcohol. What is the difference in being able to
buy cigarettes but not allowed to buy alcohol? Cigarettes cause lung cancer, robs some of your good
cholesterol, raises your blood pressure, increases the blood s clothing, and makes it hard to exercise.
Next, American s are able to sue or to be sued, open a bank account in his or her own name, serve on a
jury, leave home, and even marry or register a civil partnership. How can someone determine when a
person is an adult? Someone is considered an adult when their able to make a lifelong decisions, and

Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Every nation has various forms of representing its people, their believes and culture through their
unique rituals, fascinating customs, and their possessions. All of these representations of culture
behold a specific meaning and unique purpose that has to be passed on to the next generation. The
same can be said about Russian famous Babushka Dolls. Babushka Dolls are also called Russian
Nesting dolls or Matryoshka, which is a famous Russian wooden set of dolls that are designed in a
very specific way, so that the wooden figures of decreasing size could be placed one inside another. In
order to do so, each figure could be taken apart in two halves like plastic Easter eggs. These dolls are
decorated in different styles, but the original way had changed since the first Matryosha was made in
1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin, who is a Russian turning craftsman, and painted by Sergey Malyutin,
who is a Russian painter and a stage designer (Terletski). Nowadays, anyone, mostly tourists, can
purchase Matryoshkas at any craft stores in Russia. However, Russian Nesting Doll is not just a very
popular souvenir, but it is also an interesting representation of our culture because it is considered to
be a very educating toy for children, a remarkable representation of female beauty, and also a symbol
of a family and fertility.
Russian Nesting Dolls is the best educating toy for children of the age of about from three and above.

A Summary On The Film The Night
Over the colossal castle, the spherical star above leaned cautiously. The noose eclipsed the sunlight;
relentless guards grabbed their attention of every creature which had clinking chains glued to their
soiled feet. Led by enslaving chains; the mist blew through the ashen compound. As dejected hostages
babbled helplessly, faint whimpers deafened the abominable scene. Masking beats of drums pursued
every hesitant shuffle.
Anxiously, the morose hostages scuffled onwards; they limped in desperation onto the wooden deck.
The inmates blistered, wounded soles struggled. Wrapping it around the peasant s bony neck, scraping
away at the remaining skin, the ruffian beast grabbed the noose. Mercilessly, he grasped the corroded
lever and heaved it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The atmosphere created a faded glow that crept behind them. Their vacant eyes had such a vivid blue
in life that made the others afraid to see what they looked like after death. Their luminous and gleam
of their eyes would soon cease and never return. The hostage s last image in their minds would be
pale, dreary corpses which are discarded.
A clammed breeze lifted the cinders from the gallows, shrouding the atmosphere in a copper haze. The
silver coin reflected with its qualities of molten riches; weathered by its eternal existence, it sat in the
diminutive palm of his hand. The relic glistened in the sun. With apprehensive energy, his eyes
coruscated as a celestial voice broke out of him; the ruthless executioner yanked the defenceless child
onto the wooden barrel, putting a noose around head as it swallowed it whole. As he sang, he reflected
on his mortal life; knowing it would vanish briskly. The adolescence, timid boy s soul poured past the
rotten, blanched ground which flawed into the emotions of the aghast crowd. Just then, death was
roused. Dubiously, the vigorous executioner marched behind him, wondering what raised his feeble
audacity.
Surrounding him, there was an aura of ashen charcoal; a state of abasement that he couldn t see
himself through. It was a world of obscurity; the glossy glint he had revealed. His melancholy,
colourless eyes spoke of his depraved anguish.

San Diego Environmental Impacts
Climate change is affecting humans every day, and yet most of us have found that every region of the
globe is affected in some way or another. For us here in San Diego, California, in the Western
Hemisphere, on the west coast, United States, North America, that impact is felt mostly with rising sea
temperatures and rising sea levels. There are noticeable predictions that by 2050, rising sea levels here
will rise as stated: At least a 16 inch sea level rise is expected in San Diego, Ca by 2050, with a
projected rise of 50% by the turn of the century. San Diego, Ca has several beaches locally therefore
this is a concern here. There are multiple beachfront properties and businesses that would be impacted
by loss of profit margins, and potentially flooding if this was to occur. The property losses would
potentially be in the millions and this does not take into consideration the impact that sea mammals
would feel. By 2100, the projected sea level rise (SLR) would be 5 meters above normal...and some
widely projected margins estimate those 7 23 inches possible for SLR in the coming years. The Fourth
Assessment (4AR) by the IPCC of 2001 gives these projections for the 21st. century. Certainly not
current by any means however these projections are for this current century. Any sea level rise would
have serious impacts on creeks, streams, rivers estuaries, watersheds and local beaches. These would

Also referred to as ocean acidification, this has the effect of lowering the oceans balance of PH,
therefore making it more polluted. This has an adverse affect on sea life as it will dissolve the

effects would be changing rain patterns, warming air and rising sea temperatures, as well as increased

David H. Freedman
Health becomes one of the public s main concerns for American people, hence we are becoming more
scrupulous to our diet. People believe that being overweight is the main cause of obesity. Therefore, it
is a common believe that processed food is the number reason of obesity. David H. Freedman,
however, opposes this view. He published his article How Junk Food Can End Obesity in the Atlantic
magazine stating that processed food is not as bad as we deem it is. Freedman claims that the whole
foods are equally fattening and unhealthy (507). As for my personal opinion, healthy is a very broad
term. Its definition is generalized to be having good health, not being sick or injured. Freedman makes
me question what would be classified as healthy foods. Would a food that provides our essential daily
nutrients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by focusing on the concept of whole foods vs. junk foods, Freedman generalized junk food
as a whole to be healthy. It is true that there are certain processed foods have the proper daily
nutrients, but most of other processed foods are filled with unhealthy ingredients containing fats,
refined carbs, sugar, salt, and calories. Therefore, I feel that How Junk Food Can End Obesity is an
unfitted title for this article. Freedman also exaggerates the ability of the processed food: in fact, these
roundly demonized [fast food] companies could do far more for the public s health in five years than
the wholesome food movement is likely to accomplish in the next 50 (511). He is stating the processed
foods could make people become healthier in just a few years than the whole food would in decades.
Freedman has not only generalized the processed food to be healthy, but he has also generalized the
whole food to be unhealthy as well. As I have stated earlier, while the processed foods could provide
with all the necessary nutrients but it would be risky to say that processed foods are healthy as a

For example, the original thirteen colonies that Britain established on North America s east coast have gone on to become the world s main superpower, the United States of America. Britain s colony in China, Hong Kong, has gone on to become Asia s premiere financial center with Singapore (another British jewel) trailing just behind. Even Britain s prisoners set up the only first world country in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia! Compare this to Spain s imperial efforts, for example Mexico is the only third world country in North America and has always struggled to overcome a legal system plagued with corruption. Why is it that the British colonies were so successful and the colonies of other countries such failures in comparison? I feel the answer to that is British law. British law has been a keystone in these colonies success. Their political ideals have helped sculpt the success stories of the modern world, albeit there have been some failures such as India and Rhodesia where there were civilians revolting against their new leaders. The British education system helped produce a new class of educated Africans and Asians that were able seek employment once they had completed their schooling. 16th Century Imperialism

It is assumed that the availability of goods online should increase competition but this does not always occur. Reputable companies who have majority control over their industry can sometimes maintain high prices. Further, the Internet allows companies to obtain pricing information from their competitors companies easily and allows them to react immediately to external changes. Company monitoring can also work against consumers. Since other companies can quickly change their price, the original company would not make any extra revenue from increased sales (LaRose, R.,2000). There is also the issue of product differentiation. Increased competition due to ecommerce allows companies to better create products especially for a certain target audience. This makes it difficult for consumers to compare products and lessens the competition and keep prices high. As electronic commerce expands it has a greater social impact. The social impact of e commerce is characterized by the globalization of markets, the shift towards an economy based on knowledge and information, and the growing prominence of technology in everyday life (Jones, B., n.d.). Deep down inside Merkel knew that the students put in extreme effort into the presentations and that this matter was so serious that the students could all be expelled from school. After explaining the situation to her parents, Merkel wrote a petition which she also presented to some GDR officials. Merkels class was saved; the teacher was later disciplined. We have to manage it instead. But that s something we can only do together with our neighbors, our partners, the big ones and the small ones. I think Germany is destined, partly as a result of its geographic position, to be a mediator and balancing factor. However, one of the three most interesting topics for me was the red wolf. This name is very peculiar, for you would expect it to be more scientific. However, it s sad story just makes the name look irrelevant. The red wolf has been hunted down by early settlers, making it s wildlife population to be fourteen. That is shocking, for this unique animal is suffering because of our needs. Among the ten original amendments, the first amendment is often looked at as one of the most important, protecting the right to practice religion, to assemble, to petition the government, and the freedom of the press. The protection of these rights is essential to help maintain the United States a free and democratic country. I believe the most important rights are the right to practice religion and the freedom of the press. As I will explain in my essay, these two rights are paramount to the success of a democratic country. The first amendment stands as a reminder of our roots as a country of citizens who wanted to give the most representation and voice to the people as possible. As a result of this fiery resilience to a dictatorship, the Bill of Rights was created as a way to preserve many rights enjoyed by free men. Among this Bill of Rights was the first amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. One way to remember the freedoms granted in this amendment is R.A.P.P.S (Religion, Assembly, Petition, Press, and Speech). Practicing religion is one of the oldest behaviors in human existence. ... In 1884, Judge Lorenzo Sawyer s ruling against the North Bloomfield Mining and Gravel Company (for the full story, see Malakoff Diggings) ended hydraulic mining and created a base of unemployed workers with journeyman skills in hydro engineering. Their experience with penstocks and monitor nozzles was invaluable, and they were eager for work. As mine shafts replaced hydraulic mining, a power source was needed to operate water pumps, air pumps, stamp mills, lighting, and other machinery. Steam power plants required boilers, piping, the ongoing costs of coal or wood fuel, and a significant workforce to run the operation. Even with the cost of building dams, hydroelectricity was a less expensive option. One of the first recorded uses of hydroelectric power for mining in California was the 1889 DC powerhouse for the Dalmatia mine in El Dorado County. There are many ways that the periodic table of elements was set out. For example the table can be organized using patterns between atomic numbers, electronegativity, ionization energy, structure (gas or solid) valence electrons and electron configuration (shells) as seen in the modern day periodic table. Before history was recorded humans had knowledge of certain elements including gold (Au), copper (Cu), silver (Ag), mercury (Hg), tin (Sn) and lead (Pb). Generate random number from the repair distribution and calculate repair time require to get the machine repaired. Generate random numbers between 2000 to 8000 and estimate lost revenue due to this particular break down. Calculate the lost revenue by multiplying this number with repair time and revenue from 1 copy ($0.1). Repeat this process until sum of all the break down time exceeds 52 weeks and calculate the total loos. • 49. A Summary On The Film The Night Over the colossal castle, the spherical star above leaned cautiously. The noose eclipsed the sunlight; relentless guards grabbed their attention of every creature which had clinking chains glued to their soiled feet. Led by enslaving chains; the mist blew through the ashen compound. As dejected hostages babbled helplessly, faint whimpers deafened the abominable scene. Masking beats of drums pursued every hesitant shuffle. Anxiously, the morose hostages scuffled onwards; they limped in desperation onto the wooden deck. The inmates blistered, wounded soles struggled. Wrapping it around the peasant s bony neck, scraping away at the remaining skin, the ruffian beast grabbed the noose. Mercilessly, he grasped the corroded lever and heaved it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The atmosphere created a faded glow that crept behind them. Their vacant eyes had such a vivid blue in life that made the others afraid to see what they looked like after death. Their luminous and gleam of their eyes would soon cease and never return. The hostage s last image in their minds would be pale, dreary corpses which are discarded. A clammed breeze lifted the cinders from the gallows, shrouding the atmosphere in a copper haze. The silver coin reflected with its qualities of molten riches; weathered by its eternal existence, it sat in the diminutive palm of his hand. The relic glistened in the sun. With apprehensive energy, his eyes coruscated as a celestial voice broke out of him; the ruthless executioner yanked the defenceless child onto the wooden barrel, putting a noose around head as it swallowed it whole. As he sang, he reflected on his mortal life; knowing it would vanish briskly. The adolescence, timid boy s soul poured past the rotten, blanched ground which flawed into the emotions of the aghast crowd. Just then, death was roused. Dubiously, the vigorous executioner marched behind him, wondering what raised his feeble audacity. Surrounding him, there was an aura of ashen charcoal; a state of abasement that he couldn t see himself through. It was a world of obscurity; the glossy glint he had revealed. His melancholy, colourless eyes spoke of his depraved anguish. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. San Diego Environmental Impacts Climate change is affecting humans every day, and yet most of us have found that every region of the globe is affected in some way or another. For us here in San Diego, California, in the Western Hemisphere, on the west coast, United States, North America, that impact is felt mostly with rising sea temperatures and rising sea levels. There are noticeable predictions that by 2050, rising sea levels here will rise as stated: At least a 16 inch sea level rise is expected in San Diego, Ca by 2050, with a projected rise of 50% by the turn of the century. San Diego, Ca has several beaches locally therefore this is a concern here. There are multiple beachfront properties and businesses that would be impacted by loss of profit margins, and potentially flooding if this was to occur. The property losses would potentially be in the millions and this does not take into consideration the impact that sea mammals would feel. By 2100, the projected sea level rise (SLR) would be 5 meters above normal...and some widely projected margins estimate those 7 23 inches possible for SLR in the coming years. The Fourth Assessment (4AR) by the IPCC of 2001 gives these projections for the 21st. century. Certainly not current by any means however these projections are for this current century. • 51. David H. Freedman Health becomes one of the public s main concerns for American people, hence we are becoming more scrupulous to our diet. People believe that being overweight is the main cause of obesity. Therefore, it is a common believe that processed food is the number reason of obesity. David H. Freedman, however, opposes this view. He published his article How Junk Food Can End Obesity in the Atlantic magazine stating that processed food is not as bad as we deem it is. Freedman claims that the whole foods are equally fattening and unhealthy (507). As for my personal opinion, healthy is a very broad term. Its definition is generalized to be having good health, not being sick or injured. Freedman makes me question what would be classified as healthy foods. Would a food that provides our essential daily nutrients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, by focusing on the concept of whole foods vs. junk foods, Freedman generalized junk food as a whole to be healthy. It is true that there are certain processed foods have the proper daily nutrients, but most of other processed foods are filled with unhealthy ingredients containing fats, refined carbs, sugar, salt, and calories. Therefore, I feel that How Junk Food Can End Obesity is an unfitted title for this article. Freedman also exaggerates the ability of the processed food: in fact, these roundly demonized [fast food] companies could do far more for the public s health in five years than the wholesome food movement is likely to accomplish in the next 50 (511). He is stating the processed foods could make people become healthier in just a few years than the whole food would in decades. Freedman has not only generalized the processed food to be healthy, but he has also generalized the whole food to be unhealthy as well. As I have stated earlier, while the processed foods could provide with all the necessary nutrients but it would be risky to say that processed foods are healthy as a ...
