The Influence Of Sonnets
Similar to people in each period, literature is defined by its era. Likewise, critical literary periods
influence motifs such as love and therefore are expressed differently over centuries. Within literature,
love is expressed differently in the sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This is evident in
Since brass, nor stone, nor boundless sea by William Shakespeare,John Fletcher s, Take oh ,take those
lips away written in the Renaissance of the Elizabethan period, Life in A Love by Robert Browning,
Thomas Hardy s Broken Appointment from the Romantic period and To My Valentine by Ogden Nash
and Langston Hughes Love Again Blues written in the Modern period . Each poem of different

Sonnets increasing popularity is evident in the Renaissance through Shakespeare s works. However,
Shakespeare, like many other poets, imitates the literary pieces of famous poets of the time such as
Spenser, who has a sonnet format with his name (Nature Poems). Spenser who found inspiration in the
Renaissance period before the Elizabethan period greatly appreciated the works of Petrarch, a poet
who frequently utilizes comparisons to nature (Nature Poems). Therefore, due to Spenser s high
influence in literary society, Shakespeare also writes many sonnets with an underlying theme of
nature. In Shakespeare s Since brass, nor stone, nor boundless sea frequent use of nature and its
aspects depict love in the poem. Shakespeare depicts love as a fragile item. Shakespeare uses a
metaphor of a flower when his persona states, Whose action is no stronger than a flower? (4). With the
comparison of a flower to love, Shakespeare compares the fragility of love to a flower s weakness to
external forces in nature. Similar to the metaphor of the flower, Shakespeare also compares love to
other frail items in nature such as summer s

Facebook Has Enriched My Life
Fame is very much a double edged sword. Kevin Bacon
I can liken my presence on the web to a double edged sword because of the associated advantages and
disadvantages. In a positive sense, it has allowed me to establish a professional presence that I use to
showcase my work to my peers, professors, and potential employers. In a negative sense, it has
changed the way I communicate with friends and family members, which has stifled some
relationships by making them less personal than they would be without the aid of the web.
When I first came to State University, I tried to minimize my presence on the web by selecting privacy
settings that would not allow people outside the State community to view my work. I was under the ...

This only reinforces the idea that a Facebook friendship is often perceived as empty and meaningless.
Typically, when I think of someone as a friend, I don t consider my Facebook friends first, but rather
the people who I have recently interacted with on a more personal level. Even though one has the
ability to have hundreds, or even thousands, more Facebook friends than might be feasible for real
life, I do not believe that Facebook has changed the upper limits of friendship previously set by nature
but rather serves as a supplement for real world friendships and a breeding ground for digital
friendships. Although most users have well below Professor Robin Dunbar s upper limit of 150
friends, the Dunbar number, most of my Facebook friends have between 200 and 2,000 friends (The
Virtual Revolution). Personally, I have 705 Facebook friends which includes real world friends, digital
friends, family members, acquaintances, and even some celebrities. However, I only associate with a
handful of these friends, mostly real world friends and family members, and I don t consider each one
of these 705 friendships the same way. A major advantage of Facebook is that it allows me to maintain
a digital friendship with those who I m unable to maintain a real world friendship. I think of a digital
friendship as one that may or may not have started on line and has significantly more on line
interaction than in person interaction. In contrast, a real world friendship

Keats Allusion
When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be was written John Keats in 1884. In his sonnet Keats
displays fear of not being able to finish his literary work he has has set out to accomplish in his
lifetime. To accompany him is a cloudy night reminding him of a lost lover that he fears he will never
see again. He seems alone and seeks a simple life over love and fame. Showing, that to him, existence
and purpose is more important than any other distraction in life. Unfortunately, it seems to John Keats
that life itself is the distraction. Constantly being obsessed with any aspect of life is an unhealthy way
to live. The tone is identified immediately when Keats begins with a very common human fear, the
fear of death. His sense of paranoia to premature death reinforces the central idea in that it reveals the
authors personal struggles with the concept of life and death. He doesn t want to die feeling
unaccomplished, and he realizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats uses several different allusion is his piece. In the poem we see the use of allusions,
personification, symbolism, and a simile. He commonly uses allusions, laying reference to several
items without any explanation. Examples are the use of vague terms such as charactry which he uses
to describe writing. He also uses the term, garners (Keats) which refers to farm storehouses. In the
same line he uses the phrase, full ripened grain, (Keats) a simile used to compare the bountiful amount
of literary pieces he hopes to complete.
In the use of various language devices, he also includes personification by giving several intangible
objects human features. His first example is shown when the stars are given a face, When I behold,
upon the night s starred face. (Keats) Again, he gives chance (Keats) a physical hand, Their shadows,
with the magic hand of chance.

The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man And The Citizen Analysis
By reading the Encyclopedie and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, one can
understand that there were many problems concerning people during that time, such as the creation of
a just government as well as the responsibility of a father. Firstly, the author in the Encyclopedie put
forth his belief of a just government, in which the rights of the people would be preserved. In other
words, this could also show the people s fear at the time of a creation of a tyranny or a government
which was regulated for the benefit of those who governed only. Moreover, the author argued against
other writers saying that their reason for one to oblige to follow the unjust laws of the government
because they were born the subject of their fathers

The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Education
Gone are the days of children getting off of school to help their family farms during the summer. Now,
children as well as the teachers get out for some much needed relaxation. So why do we still follow
the same schedule? It seems every school year the discussion of year round education captures the
attention of the general public. Is it time for year round education (YRE) to be the new norm?
Ultimately, there are not that many pros for year round schooling to be the new thing and the
traditional 180 day schedule should be kept.
Many schools across the America have tried implementing year round education. However, some
school districts that tried YRE go back to the 180 day schedule (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael
Rooney 1). When year round education is proposed most of the time opposition is met. In 1992,
parents of a possible pilot school were surveyed on their thoughts. 59% of the parents responded.
There was an overwhelming amount of rejection. Just 10% of those surveyed favored YRE where
83% were against (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1).
So why is there such opposition for year round school? The concerns seem to arise with the idea of
taking away summer vacation. Most cite that both the students and the teachers need a break from
school. This also the time where many families have vacation. Summer is the time where family spend
time together without homework and project due dates looming over the students. This looming
inevitably happens during the

Research Paper On Kingdom Of Heaven
It is pretty well known that hollywood likes to dramatize things. Viewers want more romance, more
action, more violence, and filmmakers know to play this up for audiences. This is a common
occurrence. They are movies, not documentaries, so the movie is it expected be completely accurate.
An example of this would be Kingdom of Heaven. The movie Kingdom Of Heaven is based on
historical events that happened during the Crusades. While it is more accurate than other movies, there
are still some things that should have been different. According to a commentator credited by James
MacDonald, The longbow was the machine gun of the Middle Ages: accurate, deadly, possessed of a

Whether or not a film is accurate or not to history is important.Since this essay ties in with English
Language Arts and HIstory. Here is some science, just for the heck of it. In order to have a positive
future, we must treat life like the experiment it is. After each test life sends your way, you must revise
and edit your plan, and adjust. In order to do this, you must reflect on the past, not just yours
personally, but history as a whole. It s impossible to do that correctly without the right information.
For example, in the film, Saladin is portrayed as a respectful and merciful leader, despite being the
antagonist. Had he been different, you would apply the knowledge and lesson differently towards
dealing with the antagonist in your own story, who may be a lot less understanding or more cruel than
Saladin. History applies to everyday life, whether it is dealing with someone with opposing views, or
trying to make an important decision about your future. An easy way to be successful is to learn from
history and use it to your advantage, and in order to do that, we need accurate portrayals of history in
the media, like this movie Kingdom of

Development Of A Nation s Development
By definition development means the act or process of developing; growth; or progression . The world
s nation states are commonly categorized based on their state of development; nations who have
reached the end state, that being developed, are colloquially termed as developed nations or first world
nations . In contrast, nations working towards this end state are referred to as developing nations or
third world nations . However obvious or apparent these designations may seem, the constituents
affecting the status of a respective nation s development is quite convoluted. What qualifications do
developed nations hold over developing nations; what does it mean exactly to be developed or
developing. The process of development is dynamic, and so is the system by which nations received
their designation. A series of indicators, institutions and measures are used to assess the state of a
nation s development; historically, these indicators have varied throughout time and space.
Development theory has been largely presupposed to the fact that the only institutions of importance
were those directly expediting market activity. Directly following World War II, the health of a nation
was predominately based off its gross domestic product (GDP). This view of the market as the magic
bullet dominated the social construct of development; however, this paradigm began to shift come the
late 1980s/early 1990s. This archaic way of thinking has now expanded to explore new theories of

precious. The amount of time that it takes a student to secure a degree varies by college, yet the

Anti-Semitism In The 19th Century
Anti Semitism is described as a perception toward Jewish people which discriminated and prejudiced
them as a community. Jewish people as a minority group were discriminated from Christians for ages.
They were asked to abandon their religious formalities, in order to have full rights. Jews were accused
from the Christian church as ignorers of God, being devil people and unwilling community to join the

Rascher had subjects put into low pressure chambers that simulated altitudes as high as 68,000 feet,

Even worse, to the subjects that survived the chamber, Rascher would perform vivisections,

Contrast The Spanish And English Colonies From 1492 To 1700
In a time when Native Americans occupied present day America, the Age of Exploration began in
Spain, and the Puritans who disagreed with the Church of the England fled to a place where the
Puritans could practice their faith without scrutiny. It is in this context that the Native Americans used
to dominate the New World until the Spanish founded New Spain for Gold, God, and Glory. The
English explorers who settled in the New World after being persecuted in England and to make profit
this caused conflict with the natives eventually leading to the French and Indian War. The Spanish and

Admittedly, there was a difference in the way the Spanish and English lead to the Native Americans
downfall. The Spanish Friars forcibly convert the indigenous people with the mission system going as
far as to kidnap a Native America to convert him to Catholicism. The English converted the natives
using Praying towns which were completely optional and did not force the Native American to work
for the colonist. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and the conquistadors were more
focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers mainly wanted to save the
indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and doomed. On the other hand,
there was similarity in the way the Spanish and English forced the Native Americans to war after
attacking their religion and taking their land. The way the Spanish used the encomienda system. This
was a system set up by the Spanish king in which he lent out land to conquistadors to make profit by
using anything that was on the land including people. This was under the condition that the
conquistadors protected and converted the indigenous people on their land. The Spanish used this to
justify the need to extract labor and resources from the Native Americans who inhabited the New
World. The English used the way the Spanish treated the natives as a guide on how the

Film Analysis Of Rear Window Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Reality is ultimately dependent upon what is seen and how it gets seen. Rear Window, directed by the
renowned Alfred Hitchcock, centers around a temporarily wheelchair bound photographer and his
beautiful, affluent girlfriend, who believe that one of his neighbors has murdered their wife. With the
help of his caretaker and a friend of his, who is a detective, they attempt to prove that the murder did
indeed take place. L.B Jeff Jefferies, played by James Stewart, is the hindered photographer, who is
confined to his apartment. To kill time, Jeff develops the diseased habit of watching his neighbors
through his professional grade camera and lens. His girlfriend, Lisa Carol Fremont, played by Grace
Kelly, is heavily involved in the fashion industry and is well known for her elegance. However, she
deeply in love with Jeff and desperately wants to be a part of his life, even if that means she has to
embark on the unpleasant, and often life threatening, adventures that he goes on for his work. The
neighbor, Lars Thorwald, played by Raymond Burr, is a strained salesman, whose wife is a bed ridden
invalid. He tries to tend to her needs, but it never seems to be satisfactory to her. One night he decides
that he is done nursing her, so he murders her. The audience is brought into a cross courtyard game of
cat and mouse, through the unique perspective of Jeff and his camera lens, and also must deal with the
unnerving abyss of the unseen. Hitchcock uses an unparalleled first person

wife and live at the cost of his possessions. On the other hand, a few people like Eumaios remain
steadfast to the truth and work to maintain Odysseus estate and possessions. Eumaios, Odysseus
swineherd, embodies compassion, love, and loyalty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eumaios feels the pain and hardship that Laërtês endures, as he feels that the distressed Laërtês needs
instantaneous notice of his grandson s return.
In addition to being empathetic throughout the poem, Eumaios loves those who need it most:
Odysseus, Telémakhos, and the swine entrusted to him. When everyone else had finished dinner and
went to bed for the evening, Eumaios took a sharpened lance, and went to rest / under a hollow rock
where swine were sleeping (14.629 30). Homer uses this as an opportunity to show that Eumaios truly
treasured his swine; instead of sleeping like the others, he ventures out into the cold to watch over the
vulnerable swine. Later, when Telémakhos returns from searching for Odysseus, it is remarked that
Eumaios kissed the young man s head, his shining eyes / and both hands, while his own tears brimmed
and fell (16.21 2). In Odysseus absence, Eumaios essentially assumes the paternal role in Telémakhos
life, and Eumaios was ecstatic to see that his son had returned safely to Ithaka and avoided the
murderous suitors. Another emotional scene takes place when Odysseus reveals himself to the faithful
swineherd and cowherd. When Eumaios hears the news, he puts his arms around the old soldier,
weeping, / kissing his head and shoulders (21.251 2). Eumaios beams with excitement and joy when
he finds out his long last master has finally returned;

Evenwel Vs. Abbott Case Analysis
Evenwel versus Abbott court case was held on April 4, 2016, the U.S. Supreme Court was challenged
by the registered Texas voters, due to the reason that they think each district should have equal number
of population. However the legislature suggested that eligible voters should be used. In other words,
each district should have equal number of eligible voters. As a result, the justices have permitted the
legislative districts by dominating total population instead of voting population. The Evenwel versus
Abbott case is about Texas voters are complaining that their value of votes is being cut out because
there are many people who are considered as non citizens in the state. The Texas voters vote counted

For example, most of the justices support to protect the minority voters (especially African Americans)
after the Civil rights reforms, and also they lowered the voting age from twenty one to eighteen, other
than restrictions on felons, the entire adult population is legal to vote. Another case would be Shelby
County, where majority of justices agree to protect the minority voter s rights. Furthermore, the legal
model is also best fit in this case because based on the justices statement, they refer to the laws as their
evidence to support total population. In addition, the Evenwel v. Barrott court case, the liberal justices
all favored using population vote in Texas, whereas only two justices were against it. This court case
was left behind without an answer, but the Supreme Court will uphold until here is there is a similar
court case appears. Also, based on the evidence in the Evewel s v. Barrott, the societal and legal model
are most convincing to explain how the justices made the decision in this

Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael Business Ethics
Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael In my previous job, there was a couple of
ethical dilemmas I had over a period of time, but I m only choosing one of them to focus on in this
paper. This situation involved me catching another co worker stealing products from the shop. I didn t
say anything at first because I thought maybe this person had gotten permission to use these items. I
decided from then on that I was going to watch this person closely, to see if they would take anymore
products. Sure enough they did, and that was the moment I knew for sure they were stealing from the
company. I felt like I had to do something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stems from the greed of wanting more material assets, like I mentioned before. There are a
couple of different social pressures that I felt in this situation. The first is how nobody wants to be
called a nark or a taddle tale , so many people turn to keeping their mouth shut in situations like this so
they don t cause any waves. I felt the pressure to not say anything about the problem and just keep my
mouth shut. I also feel the social pressure of defending my employer and not letting them get taken
advantage of. There is a certain obligation that I have with the company since I m an employee, and
that is to stay honest and trustworthy, and to look out for potential problems that can conflict with
those values of honesty and trustworthiness. If I faced the same dilemma today, I think I would go
straight to management, unless I was especially close to the employee. Since I m not a manager I
should stay out of these kind of problems, and leave it up to them. It becomes to akward for me to
confront a fellow employee, because they often become to defensive and management gets involved
anyway, and then you end up looking bad if the issue is brought up in front of them. They will want to
know how come you didn t tell them and why are you trying to handle it yourself? I think in the future
it will be much

Romeo And Juliet Gender Roles
Role of Servants Excerpt: Find them out whose names are written here? It is written, that the
shoemaker should meddle with his yard and the tailor with his last, the fisher with his pencil and the
painter with his nets. But I am sent to find those persons whose names are here writ, and can never
find what names the writing person hath here writ. I must to the learned in good time! (Act I Scene II)
Explanation: This excerpt is from Peter, a servant of the Capulet family, when he is told to invite
people from a list to an event at the Capulet household. Servants have so little education that even this
is a big job. This is shown when Peter explains that it will be difficult to invite people due to the fact
that he cannot read. He details ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My child is yet a stranger in the world. She hath not seen the change of fourteen years. Let two more
summers wither in their pride Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride. PARIS Younger than she are
happy mothers made (Act I Scene II) Explanation: This exchange takes place while Juliet s father is
talking with Paris, who is in love with Juliet. This excerpt reflects both the gender roles and the norms
of marriage in Shakespeare s time. The woman , which is Juliet in this case, does not have much of a
say in her marriage, for marriage is more about gaining status than love in this time. This fact can be
reflected by the excerpt because Juliet doesn t even have a say in the matter of her marriage and when
it would be appropriate for her to marry. Foreshadowing Excerpt: Go ask his name. If he be married.
My grave is like to be my wedding bed (Act I Scene V) Explanation: This quotation is from Juliet
when she is talking to the nurse about Romeo. She said this to mean that she would die if he was
married. This foreshadows the fact that their love will actually lead to her death , and that she does die
shortly after they get married. Dramatic

Attempts to Mends the Nation During the Reconstruction Era
Historians are right to call Reconstruction one of the darkest times in American history. Nobody was
sure of anything. After the Union victory over the Confederacy, politicians were tasked with trying to
mend a nation divided down the middle. It was a time of many questions (Independence Hall
Association in Philadelphia, 2008).
Questions ranging from: What would be the conditions of readmitting the Confederate States back
into the Union? Who would be tasked with creating the terms, Congress or the President? What was to
become of the Confederate leaders? What labor system would be replacing slavery? What would
former slaves social status be (Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia, 2008)?
In the end, three different plans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Wade Davis bill demanded that fifty percent of a Confederate states male voter population take
the ironclad oath before reentering the Union. However, President Lincoln used his pocket veto to
keep the Wade Davis Bill from ever becoming a law. By the end of the Civil War President Lincoln s
plan for reconstruction was ultimately a bust. States like Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Virginia
followed President Lincoln s plan for readmission to the Union, but Congress refused to seat the
Senators and Representatives elected from those states. President Lincoln s assassination followed
shortly after and his plan for reconstruction died along with him (HighBeam Research, LLC, 2005).
After President Lincoln s assassination his Vice President Andrew Johnson became the new President
and began his own version of reconstruction. Although it was common knowledge at the time
President Johnson did not like southern planter elites, he was surprisingly lenient towards them. He
even blocked radicals in Congress attempts to pass punitive legislation on the Confederate states
(ushistory.org, 2008).
Just as his predecessor, President Johnson s main reconstruction goal was to get the Confederate states
back into the Union as fast as possible. To help speed up this process President Johnson returned
property confiscated by the Union s army to southerners. He issued pardons to both

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
My topic for my James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) research project is about solar panels. I wanted
to learn about how they work and how they were created. Sometimes when I m outside, I think about
how do we get energy from the sun? How can the sun power something as large as the JWST? As I
researched my project, I learned that the solar panels of the JWST are honey combed shaped. Also, the
panels are gold but not made out of real gold. Additionally, the mirrors are six times the size of Hubble
s Telescope but less massive (Technology at the Extreme Overview, 2014). I can only imagine how
small I would look if I stood next to the solar panels. Also, the primary mirrors on the JWST are made
of beryllium. Beryllium is made of a gray metal with an atomic number of 4 (The Primary ... Show

Definition of what comprised a Balanced Scorecard was sparse and focused on the high level structure
of the device. Simple causality between the four perspectives was illustrated but not used for specific
purpose. Kaplan and Norton s original paper s focus was on the selection and reporting of a limited
number of measures in each of the four perspectives (Kaplan and Norton, 1992). The paper suggested
use of attitudinal questions relating to the vision and goals of the organisation to help in the selection
of measures to be used, and also encouraged the consideration of typical areas of interest in this
process. Kaplan and Norton s original work makes no specific observations concerning how the
Balanced Scorecard might improve the performance of organisations; the implication is that the

The Age Of Enlightenment, And Social Revolutions
The Age of Enlightenment attacked the churches on issues which have been continuously going on in
the past. Which sparked the revolutions, and created a drastic change in the way the people were
governed. The colonists demanded a change in their social structures because they were tired of
absolute monarchies, which were selfish and believed in the divine right to rule. Meaning that their
power was specifically given to them by God. Most rulers did little to nothing to actually make a
beneficial change for the people and instead invested most of their time to themselves, rather than
using the time to create new ways to get rid of economic crises. This lead for their people to become
extremely needy and used any chance of help that came to them. The Enlightenment was a period of
both hardships and social growth, which made the people s perspectives towards the world different,
and spreaded Ideas which created Revolutions and made philosophers come up with different ways of
reasoning and influenced the Enlightenment in almost everything they did the outcome reshaped the
world and them a voice. Many philosophers who heavily influenced the Enlightenment ideas which
sparked the revolution, caused people to think for themselves. A philosopher named John Locke
studied human reasoning and agreed that people were indeed reasonable and moral. Locke s ideas on
people having natural rights, which were rights that he thought were to be given to all people and
shouldn t be taken away

Group Reflection Essay
Participation in group discussions has been a weakness for me, but I have communicated with my PIE
group everyday to discuss homework and exams. Although I was not a leader in the classroom, I did
serve as leader in my tri pie and I took initiative to talk to Mrs. McMillan about my speech and group.
I believe I deserve a 90/100 in my communication and participation skills.
With my tri pie, I would remind them everyday for homework, projects, and exams. I would explain
any questions they would have and provide extra info and study guides for them. For example, I
would insist that they do the quizlet I created for Freshmen and Sophomore vocabulary everyday for
at least 15 minutes a day. I also used videochat to help both of my members for presentation and
speeches. We would practice for at least 30 minutes for any presentation, such as the Side Project. As
a result, we got a 38/45. We took advantage of break by practicing our part during that time. This
helped us improve our abilities and skills on presentation because I would give my perspective on our
group s strengths and weaknesses. From this communication, I decided to create a group chat called
Carrot Juice to discuss our problems and how we could solve them by working together. One of the
problems we had was our grade checks, so we used our group chat to message each other when to
meet up, such as at break. By doing this, we were familiar with each other and our communication
began to grow because we began using this social platform more often. When one of our PIE members
was absent, we would use this group chat to collect and turn in their homework even though they were
not there. Furthermore, I communicated with Mrs. McMillan about my speech and how I could
improve on it. I took her notes into consideration about my posture and engagement with the audience.
I asked her how I could improve my specific flaws, which resulted in me choosing a different story in
my fifth attempt. Because of Mrs. McMillan s advice, I received an all perfect on my speech.
Additionally, I asked McMillan s advice on how I could further support my group because I believed a
person with year s of experience would be more helpful than doing it alone. I discussed my

The Barbary War
I claim that the Barbary war helped set the foundation for the United States military that we have
today. America has been fighting terrorism from almost the very beginning. Barbary pirates ran the
trade off the northern coast of Africa, they required many wealthy countries to pay off the pirates to
keep their merchant ships safe. The United States was not one of those countries, mainly because it
didn t have enough money to pay the pirates off. After multiple American merchant ships had been
seized by these pirates, Thomas Jefferson became fetup. Jefferson pleaded President Washington to
take action. This eventually led to the birth of the U.S. Navy. The Barbary war started the layout of the
U.S. Navy that we know today. The Navy made its debut against the pirates it was a test, but it helped
shape the Navy and helped make it stronger. Although it was brand, the Navy stood up to widely
feared Barbary pirates, and showed just a glimmer of what it would become in the future. Had it not
been for this fight against these terrorising pirates then it might have taken much longer for the U.S. ...

Navy wasn t the only expansion in the U.S. military to help fight the pirates. There was a new addition
added in the same undeclared war against the Barbary pirates, the Marines were the newest asset in
the United States military. When the blockade of Tripoli harbor didn t workout as the U.S. had planned
they decided to send troops in,the only problem was that they didn t have enough ground troops. It
wasn t until General William Eaton and Lieutenant Presley O bannon led eight other marines and six
hundred mercenaries on an attack of Derna. While the Marines had existed before the Barbary war,
fighting in the Revolutionary war as well, it wasn t until they went to battle against the Barbary pirates
that they would become an official part of the United States military. The Marines proved their worth
during their fight against these pirates who reigned terror on the

Essay on Suggestions for Effectively Talking at Your Tenants
The National Institute of Justice issued a report in 1996 detailing the intricate and complicated
connections between the physical environment and crime. One of the interesting concepts in the study
was directly related to tenant perceptions and outcomes. The authors called this concept resident
generated territorial features . In essence, this is how residents outwardly communicated their
ownership and value of the neighborhood.
Which leads a conversation about other types of communication written and verbal.

On the phone and in person conversations
For sensitive matters, face to face conversations are typically best. Be sure to allow the other person to
express their thoughts even if you disagree with their point of view. Repeat statements to express your
understanding of their point of view. Maintain an open ear; then calmly state your position.
Speaking in concise language is not the same as being blunt and rude. Concise means that you express
yourself clearly and briefly. You can disagree even issue an edict with a respectful tone and attitude.

  • 2. The Influence Of Sonnets Similar to people in each period, literature is defined by its era. Likewise, critical literary periods influence motifs such as love and therefore are expressed differently over centuries. Within literature, love is expressed differently in the sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This is evident in Since brass, nor stone, nor boundless sea by William Shakespeare,John Fletcher s, Take oh ,take those lips away written in the Renaissance of the Elizabethan period, Life in A Love by Robert Browning, Thomas Hardy s Broken Appointment from the Romantic period and To My Valentine by Ogden Nash and Langston Hughes Love Again Blues written in the Modern period . Sonnets increasing popularity is evident in the Renaissance through Shakespeare s works. However, Shakespeare, like many other poets, imitates the literary pieces of famous poets of the time such as Spenser, who has a sonnet format with his name (Nature Poems). Spenser who found inspiration in the Renaissance period before the Elizabethan period greatly appreciated the works of Petrarch, a poet who frequently utilizes comparisons to nature (Nature Poems). Therefore, due to Spenser s high influence in literary society, Shakespeare also writes many sonnets with an underlying theme of nature. In Shakespeare s Since brass, nor stone, nor boundless sea frequent use of nature and its aspects depict love in the poem. Shakespeare depicts love as a fragile item. Shakespeare uses a metaphor of a flower when his persona states, Whose action is no stronger than a flower? (4). With the comparison of a flower to love, Shakespeare compares the fragility of love to a flower s weakness to external forces in nature. Similar to the metaphor of the flower, Shakespeare also compares love to other frail items in nature such as summer s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Facebook Has Enriched My Life Fame is very much a double edged sword. Kevin Bacon I can liken my presence on the web to a double edged sword because of the associated advantages and disadvantages. In a positive sense, it has allowed me to establish a professional presence that I use to showcase my work to my peers, professors, and potential employers. In a negative sense, it has changed the way I communicate with friends and family members, which has stifled some relationships by making them less personal than they would be without the aid of the web. When I first came to State University, I tried to minimize my presence on the web by selecting privacy settings that would not allow people outside the State community to view my work. Typically, when I think of someone as a friend, I don t consider my Facebook friends first, but rather the people who I have recently interacted with on a more personal level. Even though one has the ability to have hundreds, or even thousands, more Facebook friends than might be feasible for real life, I do not believe that Facebook has changed the upper limits of friendship previously set by nature but rather serves as a supplement for real world friendships and a breeding ground for digital friendships. Although most users have well below Professor Robin Dunbar s upper limit of 150 friends, the Dunbar number, most of my Facebook friends have between 200 and 2,000 friends (The Virtual Revolution). Personally, I have 705 Facebook friends which includes real world friends, digital friends, family members, acquaintances, and even some celebrities. However, I only associate with a handful of these friends, mostly real world friends and family members, and I don t consider each one of these 705 friendships the same way. A major advantage of Facebook is that it allows me to maintain a digital friendship with those who I m unable to maintain a real world friendship. I think of a digital friendship as one that may or may not have started on line and has significantly more on line interaction than in person interaction. In contrast, a real world friendship ... • 5. Keats Allusion When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be was written John Keats in 1884. In his sonnet Keats displays fear of not being able to finish his literary work he has has set out to accomplish in his lifetime. To accompany him is a cloudy night reminding him of a lost lover that he fears he will never see again. He seems alone and seeks a simple life over love and fame. Showing, that to him, existence and purpose is more important than any other distraction in life. Unfortunately, it seems to John Keats that life itself is the distraction. Constantly being obsessed with any aspect of life is an unhealthy way to live. The tone is identified immediately when Keats begins with a very common human fear, the fear of death. His sense of paranoia to premature death reinforces the central idea in that it reveals the authors personal struggles with the concept of life and death. Examples are the use of vague terms such as charactry which he uses to describe writing. He also uses the term, garners (Keats) which refers to farm storehouses. In the same line he uses the phrase, full ripened grain, (Keats) a simile used to compare the bountiful amount of literary pieces he hopes to complete. In the use of various language devices, he also includes personification by giving several intangible objects human features. • 6. The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man And The Citizen Analysis By reading the Encyclopedie and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, one can understand that there were many problems concerning people during that time, such as the creation of a just government as well as the responsibility of a father. Firstly, the author in the Encyclopedie put forth his belief of a just government, in which the rights of the people would be preserved. In other words, this could also show the people s fear at the time of a creation of a tyranny or a government which was regulated for the benefit of those who governed only. Moreover, the author argued against other writers saying that their reason for one to oblige to follow the unjust laws of the government because they were born the subject of their fathers ... • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Education Gone are the days of children getting off of school to help their family farms during the summer. Now, children as well as the teachers get out for some much needed relaxation. So why do we still follow the same schedule? It seems every school year the discussion of year round education captures the attention of the general public. Is it time for year round education (YRE) to be the new norm? Ultimately, there are not that many pros for year round schooling to be the new thing and the traditional 180 day schedule should be kept. Many schools across the America have tried implementing year round education. However, some school districts that tried YRE go back to the 180 day schedule (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1). When year round education is proposed most of the time opposition is met. In 1992, parents of a possible pilot school were surveyed on their thoughts. 59% of the parents responded. There was an overwhelming amount of rejection. Just 10% of those surveyed favored YRE where 83% were against (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1). So why is there such opposition for year round school? The concerns seem to arise with the idea of taking away summer vacation. Most cite that both the students and the teachers need a break from school. This also the time where many families have vacation. Summer is the time where family spend time together without homework and project due dates looming over the students. This looming inevitably happens during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Viewers want more romance, more action, more violence, and filmmakers know to play this up for audiences. This is a common occurrence. They are movies, not documentaries, so the movie is it expected be completely accurate. An example of this would be Kingdom of Heaven. The movie Kingdom Of Heaven is based on historical events that happened during the Crusades. While it is more accurate than other movies, there are still some things that should have been different. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether or not a film is accurate or not to history is important.Since this essay ties in with English Language Arts and HIstory. Here is some science, just for the heck of it. In order to have a positive future, we must treat life like the experiment it is. After each test life sends your way, you must revise and edit your plan, and adjust. In order to do this, you must reflect on the past, not just yours personally, but history as a whole. It s impossible to do that correctly without the right information. For example, in the film, Saladin is portrayed as a respectful and merciful leader, despite being the antagonist. Had he been different, you would apply the knowledge and lesson differently towards dealing with the antagonist in your own story, who may be a lot less understanding or more cruel than Saladin. History applies to everyday life, whether it is dealing with someone with opposing views, or trying to make an important decision about your future. An easy way to be successful is to learn from history and use it to your advantage, and in order to do that, we need accurate portrayals of history in the media, like this movie Kingdom of ... • 9. Development Of A Nation s Development By definition development means the act or process of developing; growth; or progression . The world s nation states are commonly categorized based on their state of development; nations who have reached the end state, that being developed, are colloquially termed as developed nations or first world nations . In contrast, nations working towards this end state are referred to as developing nations or third world nations . However obvious or apparent these designations may seem, the constituents affecting the status of a respective nation s development is quite convoluted. What qualifications do developed nations hold over developing nations; what does it mean exactly to be developed or developing. The process of development is dynamic, and so is the system by which nations received their designation. A series of indicators, institutions and measures are used to assess the state of a nation s development; historically, these indicators have varied throughout time and space. Development theory has been largely presupposed to the fact that the only institutions of importance were those directly expediting market activity. Directly following World War II, the health of a nation was predominately based off its gross domestic product (GDP). This view of the market as the magic bullet dominated the social construct of development; however, this paradigm began to shift come the late 1980s/early 1990s. This archaic way of thinking has now expanded to explore new theories of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Tyson) If Rascher were testing for Pilot survival, he would no that the pressure would slowly increase, as the ejected pilot slowly parachuted down to the ground. Rascher, however, kept the pressure chamber at a set pressure, incorrectly representing how the human body would react to ejecting at high altitude. Furthermore, if the point of the experiment was to save pilots from high altitudes, why did they let some of the subjects die in the chamber? Shouldn t they be testing ways to revive them, rather than kill them? The Spanish Friars forcibly convert the indigenous people with the mission system going as far as to kidnap a Native America to convert him to Catholicism. The English converted the natives using Praying towns which were completely optional and did not force the Native American to work for the colonist. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and the conquistadors were more focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers mainly wanted to save the indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and doomed. On the other hand, there was similarity in the way the Spanish and English forced the Native Americans to war after attacking their religion and taking their land. The way the Spanish used the encomienda system. This was a system set up by the Spanish king in which he lent out land to conquistadors to make profit by using anything that was on the land including people. While away, people will inevitably attempt to steal your possessions, seduce your spouse, and act as though you will never return. Most likely, more people will try to harm your estate than those who will continue working and behaving in an honest manner. This notion holds true in Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey. While Odysseus wages war and struggles to return to Ithaka , a multitude of suitors court his wife and live at the cost of his possessions. When everyone else had finished dinner and went to bed for the evening, Eumaios took a sharpened lance, and went to rest / under a hollow rock where swine were sleeping (14.629 30). Homer uses this as an opportunity to show that Eumaios truly treasured his swine; instead of sleeping like the others, he ventures out into the cold to watch over the vulnerable swine. Which sparked the revolutions, and created a drastic change in the way the people were governed. The colonists demanded a change in their social structures because they were tired of absolute monarchies, which were selfish and believed in the divine right to rule. Meaning that their power was specifically given to them by God. Most rulers did little to nothing to actually make a beneficial change for the people and instead invested most of their time to themselves, rather than using the time to create new ways to get rid of economic crises. Although I was not a leader in the classroom, I did serve as leader in my tri pie and I took initiative to talk to Mrs. McMillan about my speech and group. I believe I deserve a 90/100 in my communication and participation skills. With my tri pie, I would remind them everyday for homework, projects, and exams. I would explain any questions they would have and provide extra info and study guides for them. We took advantage of break by practicing our part during that time. This helped us improve our abilities and skills on presentation because I would give my perspective on our group s strengths and weaknesses. From this communication, I decided to create a group chat called Carrot Juice to discuss our problems and how we could solve them by working together. One of the problems we had was our grade checks, so we used our group chat to message each other when to meet up, such as at break.
