Freight Broker Sales Representative Job Description
Job Overview
Conduct research and identify opportunities for new business; generate profitable new revenue by
converting leads, working through customer boards and calling and emailing potential customers.
Manage and expand an individual book of business by focusing on profitable margin expectations.
1. Lead and solicit business from designated customers by understanding HG Logistics
strengths and leveraging them appropriately to drive rapid and sustainable growth. Serve as
an extension of sales to expand HG Logistics total capacity solutions; work with
designated department personnel to monitor, bid and handle awarded freight Monitor
Logistics Email Box and marketing campaigns to ensure timely lead follow up and best-in-
class customer service; maintain documentation of lead information and contacts for
potential new business. Provide necessary presentations, reports and research as requested.
2. Learn pricing best practicing and market trends to effectively utilize appropriate tools to
provide quotes, negotiate pricing (within given matrix) and commit transportation services
on the spot with customers; maintain knowledge of customer contractual requirements.
3. Manage multiple logistics accounts; develop and maintain customer relationships by
providing transportation solutions and excellent customer service in an open, transactional
soliciting environment. Build mutually beneficial, lasting relationships to increase business
with customers over time.
4. Serve as customer's first line of communication; lead and perform customer service
functions regarding assigned number of accounts or customers. Ensure flawless execution
by ensuring all requirements are met regarding customer expectations; prioritize and
communicate customer commitments. Monitor and trace shipments from pick up to
delivery, proactively notifying the customer of service issues. Anticipate and facilitate
problem resolution on all load issues to meet or exceed total satisfaction of customers.
Research and code all applicable service failures.
5. Maintain customer data; set up new customer and shipper codes, maintain current
reporting, contact information and key account notes through appropriate websites or
other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools. Leverage CRM tools to effectively
maintain and expand customer base.
6. Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers; carry out
calls to qualified and targeted prospects and accounts within assigned responsibilities.
Achieve outbound call frequency objectives.
7. Support quality and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) quality initiative,
providing input and documents when required. Anticipate and facilitate problem
resolution on all shipment issues to meet or exceed total satisfaction of customers and
service providers. Assist designated department personnel with collection issues upon
request. Adhere to all company policy and procedures
8. Maintain and expand a positive, professional and proactive work atmosphere by acting and
communicating in alignment with company demands, ethics and guiding principles, and
expectations.
9. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership, including occasional business
travel.
Position Requirements:
Sales experience with ability to maintain motivation and energy for cold calling and prospecting;
customer service experience, focused on value delivery; results oriented; entrepreneurial spirit with
proven ability to solicit new customers and meet specific revenue targets; exemplary telephone
skills; strong sense of urgency and purpose, with a bias for action; cross-functional collaboration
to drive exceptional results; MS Office Suite tools; data management through spreadsheet and
database applications; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; possess above average
public speaking, negotiation, time management, writing and organizational skills; ability to
understand and enforce company policies; maintain a professional appearance and work
environment; self-confident and self-starter without the need of close supervision; ability to
operate in a busy, demanding environment; ability to seamlessly adapt to ever changing duties and
milestones; integrity, credibility and trust oriented.
