Guy Fawkes was an English Catholic who took part in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The plot aimed to blow up the English Parliament building with gunpowder while King James I was giving a speech, killing him and other Protestant leaders. Fawkes was found guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder in the cellar and was subsequently arrested, tortured, and executed. His failed attempt is still commemorated annually in the UK as Guy Fawkes Night on November 5th with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes.
2. Who Was Guy FaWkes?
Guy Fawkes is an English noble
Catholic. He was born on 13 April in
1570 and died on 31 January in 1606. He
grew up in York. Fawkes was the most
famous member of the Gunpowder plot.
He was instructed to light the fuse on 5
November in 1605. But the plot failed
and Guy was arrested and sentenced to
hanging, evisceration and quartering
on 31 January.
However, on execution day he managed to jump off
scaffold and broke his neck. So he died avoiding the agonizing
death.
3. The GunpoWder ploT
The Gunpowder plot was Catholic conspiracy. They
decided to blow up the English Parliament building, because
members of the Parliament supported Protestants. Catholic
planned to do the blast on 5 November in 1605 during King's
speech, when there were King James and Lord's Chamber in.
Among the conspirators were Robert Catesby, Thomas Winter,
Thomas Percy, John Wright, Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes and
Francis Tresham.
Conspirators put under 2,5 tons of gunpowder in cellar. It
was enough to destroy the Parliament, Westminster Abbey that
was close to it and many houses that were located within 800
meters.
4. But their plot was uncovered by anonymous letter that
was sent on 26 April in 1605 to Lord Monteagle. On the night of 4
to 5 November the Parliament building was searched and here at
mignight Guy Fawkes was found with evidences of crime.
During the week all the plot’s members were found and defused.
Their executon took place on 30-31 January in 1606 in the yard of
St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
5. Celebration
Guy Fawkes Night , also known as Bonfire Night is a
traditional English annual holiday. It is celebrated on 5
November. At this night Brits celebrates the fail of the
Gunpowder plot. They light fireworks and burn Guy Fawkes’s
scarecrows on fires. Children rejoice and ask people “Penny for
the Guy” to buy petards. This holiday is mainly celebrated in
England and its former colonies. So celebrates are always bright,
amazing and impressive!!!

Moore’s novel called “V for Vendetta” and the film with the
same name.
After Guy Fawkes’s death a word “guy” began to mean
his scarecrow, then a scarecrow at all, later poorly dressed man
and today it means a boy.
