3. HOW WAS BONFIRE NIGHT/ GUY FAWKES
NIGHT STARTED?
 On the 5th November 1605, there was a plot to blow up parliament: called THE
GUNPOWDER PLOT.
 With King James INSIDE!!
 One of the men, Guy FAWKES, was caught, put on trial and was found GUILTY of
TREASON!!
 He was EXECUTED
 King James ordered the people of England to set BONFIRES on the night of 5th
November to celebrate the capture of GUY FAWKES!

6. The TALE of GUY FAWKES is why, nowadays, there is a figure (effigy) of a man in the FIRE…to REPRESENT Guy
Fawkes being exucuted…
But. Guy Fawkes was not executed by fire…he was HUNG, DRAWN, AND QUARTERED.

8. FIREWORK SAFETY
 Due to the POPULARITY of FIREWORKS, every year in the week before Bonfire
Night, there is a national CAMPAIGN PROMOTING firework SAFETY.
 You have to be 18 to buy fireworks legally in the UK
 Fireworks can be very DANGEROUS, and firework MISSUSE is considered
ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR.
 BUT, can be fun when used CORRECTLY
