Guy Fawkes and others plotted to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Guy Fawkes was caught under the House of Lords with explosives and was later hanged, drawn and quartered for his punishment. On Bonfire Night, children make Guy Fawke effigies to burn in bonfires while fireworks celebrate his death, and traditional foods like baked potatoes, toffee apples, and parkin are eaten.

2. The Story of Guy Fawkes In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and his friends planned to kill King James I of England. This was called ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ Guy Fawkes was caught hiding underneath the House of Lords with lots of explosives. He was later hung, drawn and quartered as his punishment.

3. BONFIRE NIGHT TRADITIONS On Bonfire Night, the children create their own Guy Fawkes and put him on the Bonfire. We let off fireworks as this is what the people did to celebrate Guy Fawke’s death. We eat baked potatoes, toffee apples and parkin. Children write their names in Sparklers.
