  • 2. Group discussion is a co-operative, problem solving activity, which seeks a consensus regarding the solution of a problem
  • 3. Group discussion can be defined as 3 0r more participants who have an agreed topic to discuss & share their views in all aspects & submit/present their views in the form of report to bigger gathering
  • 4. • Opportunity to share information • Opportunity to gain & share knowledge related to educational objectives • Develop skill of group development, socialization under leadership of teacher • Variety of information learned in short time
  • 5. Discussion • involves a group • is oral • Involves interaction • Is purposeful • Proceeds systematically from question/problem towards increased understanding/decision • Should proceed with classification of limited questions • Members must accept group orientation
  • 6. Small groups • Individual conferences • Informal classroom discussion • Seminar • Clinical conference • Case analysis Large Group: • Panel discussion • Symposium
  • 7. • Closed group discussion - Study group - Workshop - Staff meeting - Round table • Decision making groups • Public discussion - Panel discussion - Symposium - Conference - seminar
  • 8. • Need adequate & effective planning of topic of discussion, objectives & environment • Time & motivation must be provided for preparation of topic • Leader & members of group should be aware of their responsibility during discussion • Teacher should open discussion session with brief introduction of topic & objectives
  • 9. • Students are facilitate to express their ideas & viewpoints • During discussion, teacher assumes the role of mentor & leader, also intervenes in case of arguments/ clarification of doubts • Over talkative students are discouraged & passive students are motivated • One student from a group is ask to record the proceeding of discussion • End of discussion, teacher summarizes the discussion with conclusion
