Late Adulthood social development Late adulthood begins at the age of 65 and continues to death. It is a time and period where everything starts to
change. For example, the declining of a person physical health, mental health and their social relationship with other. To know more about late
adulthood development I observe the movie call "Driving Miss Daisy". This movie is about an old, Jewish, retire school teacher who is seventy–two
years old name, Daisy. She lived alone with her housemaid Idella. One day, when she drove into her neighbor's yard with her car, her son, Boolie,
hire Hoke to drive her around. At first, she does not like Hoke and she refuses to let him drives her, but gradually give in. As Miss Daisy and Hoke
spend more time together, she begins to appreciate him. This movie is about her 25 years of late adulthood life. As she reaches around her ninety, her
physical, mental and social activity starts to decline. In late adulthood social development, some people become less involved with day to day event,
while others continue to remain active with people and their areas of personal interest. There is three major theory that provides this... Show more

In late adulthood, people start to withdraw himself from the world on a physical, psychological, and social level. On a social level, older adult
engages in less interaction with other, in terms of both day to day, face to face encounters and participation in society as a whole. Disengagement
theory suggests that withdrawal is a mutual process because norms and expectation about aging, society, in general, begin to disengage from those in
late adulthood. In the movie, the example of disengagement theory is when Miss Daisy is in her late adulthood stages and she a retired teacher who
lives alone with her housemaid. She withdraws her self from Hoke by telling him not to help her with

This shows the key signs of memory deterioration as well as reasoning which are common in Alzheimer's ( Meyers, 2011, p. 460). These symptoms
are present when Daisy keeps believing that she is a teacher and tries to convince Hoke too. A cause of this is the lack of the neurotransmitter
Acetylcholine in the brain. As people grow older the neurons that make Acetylcholine can start to deteriorate and no longer produce this vital
neurotransmitter, which is key in both learning and memory (Meyers, 2011, p. 57). Lack of Acetylcholine explains why when Daisy got older she
showed the symptoms of these two degenerative diseases. Parkinson's disease is also common in the elderly population like dementia and
Alzheimer's. Daisy shows symptoms of Parkinson's such as bradykinesia which causes Daisy to move slowly as she walks. She also shows the key
signs of tremors as shown when she attempts to eat the pie and cannot stop shaking with the fork in her hand. Another symptom that Daisy shows is a
change in the way she speaks, her speech pattern becoming slow and drawn out (Mayo Clinic). Parkinson's disease can be caused by a lack of the
neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is integral in functions such as bodily movement, emotion, and attention. When the brain is devoid
of dopamine it can create tremors which cause a loss of

Driving Miss Daisy
Driving Miss Daisy Driving Miss Daisy is an American comedy–drama movie in which the growth of a relationship between a southern Jewish
widowed teacher, Miss Daisy, and her African–American chauffeur, Hoke, is depicted. Besides having Idella, an African–American elderly woman, as
her housemaid, Miss Daisy resides by herself in a big house in Atlanta. After Miss Daisy's car accident in her yard, Hoke is hired by Miss Daisy's
son, Boolie, who is concerned about his mother's abilities to drive.Miss Daisy, who takes a great pride in her independence, resists accepting Hoke as a

During the period of Civil Right Movement, both Jews and people of color were victims of racial prejudice. Hoke, who is aware of the Black–Jewish
alliance, comes to the Boolie, a Jew, for a job and says "I'd rather work for Jews...I know folks say they stingy and cheap ... But don't say none of that
around me!" While Boolie is very considerate toward Hoke and other African–Americans who work for his family, Miss Daisy is more conservative
toward them in a way that her biases slow down the growth of her relationship with Hoke, who probably could even become her lover if they were to
meet in more recent time. However, she has grown up in a Southern culture with the privilege of being White and having a higher socioeconomic status.
Southern tradition of considering African–American as a second–class citizen is ingrained in her. This is not to say that Miss Daisy does not believe in
equal right as she always insists that she is not a prejudice woman and shows interest in the process of Civil Right Movement by saying "I think it's
wonderful the way things are changing." It is only after couple of incidences throughout the time, including bombing the Jewish Temple and Martin

Similarities Between Wilson And Tom In The Great Gatsby
The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald takes place in the prohibition era, telling a story full of affairs and illegal activities. In
Fitzgerald's novel, Tom Buchanan and George Wilson are more similar than different in their attitude towards women, their ways of showing
violence, and their reactions to being cuckolded. Sexism was very prominent in the early 1920s; Tom's unfaithfulness is fueled by his sexist nature
and rudeness towards women. Tom cuts off women many times in his dinner with Nick and Miss Baker. Tom's wife is quick to blame him for his
physical abuse when questioned about her injured finger "Brute of a man, a great big hulking physical specimen" (Fitzgerald 41) George is a more
caring figure in the novel and he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom has a vicious temper and is accustom to getting his way; when Myrtle disobeyed him and kept mentioning Daisy's name "Tom Buchanan and

shouted Mrs. Wilson. 'I'll say it whenever I want to! Daisy! Dai––' Making a short deft movement Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand."
(Fitzgerald 41) Tom is also demonstrating his expectation to always be able to make rules and for people to actually follow without question. Tom
is used to getting his way; when Myrtle doesn't immediately give in Tom's vicious temper flares. George is also a savage, but his temper more
resistant to control under normal circumstances. George loses it in a devastating situation and does something irrational and kills Gatsby. To get out
of paying his consequences he kills himself. Both men have anger controlling their lives. Only tom, with his money and power can get away with
his actions whereas George would have had to pay the full price of his actions if he did not take the easy way out and kill himself. Tom is more

Cultural Differences
Cultural Differences

For any relationship to succeed both parties need patience, tolerance, and understanding. This becomes especially important when individuals come
from dissimilar cultural backgrounds. If the individuals take the time to learn about the other's culture many stereotypes and misconceptions will be
eliminated. If they slow down and listen to one another they will likely find that despite their differences they share many basic needs; this can serve as
the common ground or a starting point needed for understanding one another. However, if both parties remain staunchly entrenched in their own
culturally–based viewpoints confusion and turmoil will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geert Hofstede, a cultural anthropologist examined cultures and ordered them according by dominant patterns of value orientations regarding power,
self, gender, predictability, and time (Lustig & Koester, 2010). Analyzing the power distance patterns of Miss Daisy and Hoke's respective cultures it
becomes evident there were major differences overcome in order for these two to form a relationship. All cultures have preconceived beliefs regarding
class inequalities. Miss Daisy held it to be true that each individual has a rightful place in society and that authority figures should not be confronted or
questioned. During the time period this film portrays the European American culture can be ascribed as a culture with a large power distance. African
American culture during the civil rights movement was seeking to minimize power distances, and believed that class and social inequalities should be
minimized. Throughout most of the film Miss Daisy exemplifies large power distances demonstrating her beliefs regarding her status, and her beliefs
that her authority should not be challenged. Despite her insistence that she was not prejudice, she repeatedly demonstrated her beliefs that she was
superior to and separate from African Americans by her continually referencing them as "they," and referring to African Americans as little children
who need to be instructed on what to do. Miss Daisy also demonstrated her power distance

The Role Of Women In The Great Gatsby
At first glance it may seem that throughout The Great Gatsby the women play a very submissive part and always seem to stay obedient to the men of
the story. The women in the setting of the novel suggest that they support the idea that the inherited wealthy men have the utmost authority because the
women always seem to obey their every word. When in reality, the men's wealth is just a veil to camouflage the fact that under the radar, the women
throughout the entirety of the novel are actually the puppet masters behind the scenes of everything that goes on from end to end of the novel. Because
males comfortably become more wealthy while females frequently collect commands and judgments, it is possible to make the logical leap to believing
that although men have the "fatherly authority", the women still seem to have the upper hand. In The Great Gatsby, many, if not all, men collectively
gather wealth in a consistent and dependable manner. However, when looking at what the women collect and how they collect throughout the novel's
entirety, they seem to collect influence and power in their own sort of way. Even though it isn't completely evident when first taking a look at them,
you can still see how manipulative and they are authoritative when they always seem to get their way, what they want, and when they want it. For
example, Daisy wanted to be with Gatsby and Tom simultaneously because she claimed to care about both of them equally, and although for a short
time, she was

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Great Gatsby
Foreshadowing, in literature, is used to indicate a significant event or a series of significant events that occur later on in the piece of writing. Often, the
reader does not fully comprehend the importance of indicative words and/or phrases until being made aware of them later. In The Great Gatsby,
Fitzgerald foreshadows the inevitable outcome for his main star, Jay Gatsby. The events prior to Gatsby's death all foreshadow the final outcome.
Almost every characters are foreshadowed with how they end up. Fitzgerald uses imagery to convey hints and clues to Gatsby and everyone
surrounding him and all of their eventual destination.
Firstly, Fitzgerald uses a few incidents involving cars to foreshadow the recklessness of Daisy, resulting in the death od Myrtle. In chapter three,
Owl–eyes is accused of crashing his car in the ditch. When in reality, it was a man who was drunk and disordered. Owl–eyes represents a lack of
vision within the story. Of course, the recklessness of the drunk man with the car foreshadows Daisy's recklessness with Gatsby's car. To further the
foreshadowing of that event, Owl–eyes insists that the problem is not the tire, that is lying on the ground, but is that his car is out of gas and requests
that it be brought to the gas station: "'Wonder'ff tell me where there's a gas'line station?' At least a dozen men ... explained to [Owl–eyes] that wheel
and car were no longer joined by any physical bond" (Fitzgerald 56). Not only does Owl–eyes have impaired vision, but this also foreshadows when
Tom, Nick, and Jordan stop at the Wilson's auto mechanic shop for gas.
Before getting in the car, Tom argues with Daisy and Gatsby about the entire love triangle. Tom insists on driving Gatsby's bright car with Daisy.
Daisy chooses to go with Gatsby in Toms car. Out of rage, Tom drives fast and recklessly. The recklessness in Gatsby's car foreshadows the later
recklessness is the same car, but with Daisy at the wheel. Upon running low on gas, Tom reluctantly stops at the Wilson's mechanic shop. Myrtle, from
the window, sees Tom and miss sees Jordan as Tom's wife, Daisy. Myrtle also takes note on the brightly coloured car which foreshadows her
misunderstanding of who the car actually belongs to.

Alfred Uhry 's warm, Pulitzer Prize–winning theatrical production "Driving Miss Daisy" shows itself to be equally if not more capable of tugging at
the audience 's heartstrings in film form. The narrative primarily follows the twenty–five year development of a beautiful, albeit atypical relationship
between the proper–but–prickly Miss Daisy, a well–off Jewish senior citizen, and her chauffeur, the ever–attentive Hoke, an African American
gentleman. The audience sees the development of the plot primarily through the eyes of the unlikely pair. After nearly destroying her car as well as

The old woman has a deeply engrained, closeted distrust towards African Americans, despite often impressing upon her son Booley that she 's "never
been prejudiced." She displays her close–mindedness early on when she looks down upon Booley 's wife, her daughter–in–law, for "socializing with
Episcopalians." This foreshadows what her initial treatment of a black driver will be. If she can 't seem to coexist with white Christians without
swallowing her disgust, one dreads her imminent treatment of an unknown black man . She 's overly domineering towards her hired help, in
particular Hoke, and yet is unwilling to accept help of any kind from him until six full days into their arrangement. When Hoke commences with
dusting the light bulbs around the house and maintaining her garden due to the fact that he hasn 't been asked to drive his patron anywhere for
weeks on end, she scolds him, calling his idea of dusting the light bulbs stupid, and responding to his efforts in the garden with a curt "If I want a
vegetable garden I 'll grow it myself." Her attitude towards Hoke falls just short of unadulterated loathing, with no motive other than her own
delusions about being independent and her obvious dislike for any African American who isn 't Idele. The dynamic nature of Miss Daisy 's character
only truly shows itself after the case of the "stolen" salmon can has been solved. At this point in the film, she has grown suspicious of her driver to the

The theme of carelessness in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott...
"I couldn't forgive him or like him, but I saw that what he had done was, to him, entirely justified. It was all very careless and confused. They were
careless people, Tom and Daisy–– they smashed up things and creatures and the retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever
it was the kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made" (Fitzgerald 180–181). In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, the characters Daisy and Tom demonstrate the theme of carelessness. Tom and Daisy show carelessness through being foolish thus lacking a
lack of good sense or judgment. Furthermore, they both show the theme of carelessness by being inconsiderate of others. The theme of negligence is ...

'You forget there's a lady present,' said Jordan. Daisy looked around doubtfully 'You kiss Nick too.'
'What a low, vulgar girl!'
'I don't care!' cried Daisy, and began to clog on the brick fireplace." (Fitzgerald 116) It is evident that Daisy's words "I don't care" show that she is
inconsiderate of other peoples' feelings. She rudely shows her affection for Gatsby in public without considering the fact that Nick and Myrtle are
present. In addition to being inconsiderate of Nick and Jordan, Daisy is inconsiderate to Tom as well. "She looked at him [Tom] blindly. 'Why
––how
could I love him––possibly?'" (Fitzgerald 132) It is extremely inconsiderate to be telling Tom–– the man to whom she is married–– that she never loved
him. Therefore, even though Tom showed carelessness through being inconsiderate of Daisy, Daisy was the more careless one because she was
inconsiderate of more people as a result of her behaviour. These people include Nick, Jordan, and Tom.
Finally, both Tom and Daisy show carelessness through being foolish. Tom Buchanan exhibits foolishness by physically harming Daisy. "We all
looked. The knuckle was black and blue.
'You did it, Tom,' she said accusingly.
'I know you didn't mean to, but you did do it. That's what I get for marrying a brute of a man, a great, big, hulking physical specimen of a––'"

Rhetorical Analysis
Do traffic signals make a difference when drivers are conducting their vehicles? In U.K. the roads have less signs and are smaller roads than in the
United States. The United States has great amounts of traffic signals and symbols all over the road to make the driver more aware. In the U.K.
accidents do occur but not that often has in the United States. In the Unites States every second there is huge amounts of accidents going on over the
nation. John Staddon in his magazine article "Distracting Miss Daisy" tries to persuade that traffic control is making traffic more dangerous because
we do not pay attention to the road, but to the signals. In the article "Distracting Miss Daisy" John Staddon wants to reach the United States drivers and

Why Did Wilson Kill Myrtle's Death
George Wilson, husband of Myrtle, shoots with his gun to kill Jay Gatsby. When I think about the scene created, I had one thing on my mind. How
did Wilson kill Gatsby on the right spot as he was floating on his swimming pool? As Wilson was sad because of the terrible accident of his wife,
Myrtle, he had sleepless night, however, he managed to kill Gatsby without missing one bullet. I think the book is based on emotional rather than
logical, because Wilson murdered Gatsby thinking that he might be the murderer of his wife and "lover" of his wife, which is not true. Based on the
yellow car, Tom ensures Wilson that it was his car and that he hit Myrtle. If Wilson had thought more about the situation, he might not take an action
murdering Gatsby and then commit a suicide later on.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First thing, Jay took all the blame for the crime because he loves Daisy, second thing, Daisy struck Myrtle driving Gatsby's car because she was
interfering her and Tom's marital life, and third thing, Wilson knew that his wife was having an affair but didn't even know who was it exactly, he
ended up killing Gatsby without even thinking. I understand when you get mad or furious at someone, you cannot control yourself and just want to
do whatever you want, but it's not how life goes. Gatsby wanted to be with Daisy and so did she, but Daisy can't deny the fact that she used to love
Tom even though he was having an open relationship with Myrtle. In my point of view, Daisy used Gatsby just to make her husband jealous and
then driving his car to kill her husband's girlfriend. One of my biggest confusion would be how come Wilson had a gun, as he was poor even though
he was a mechanic. I don't think he could have owned a gun or a

Essay about Driving Miss Daisy
Driving Miss Daisy
This is a report on the story "Driving Miss Daisy". The main characters are Daisy Werthan, Boolie Werthan, and Hoke Colborn. Alfred
Uhry wrote the play. It started in nineteen forty–eight and ended in nineteen seventy–three. It's a play based on a female Jew, which is Daisy Werthan,
which passes the ages of seventy–two to ninety–seven years old, and a black chauffeur named Hoke. Daisy's son Boolie is stuck in between Daisy's
prejudice and Hoke. Here goes.
Daisy showed her first type of prejudice when Hoke told her "yo zinnias cold use a little tendin' to". She told him to leave them alone. He
also offered to put vegetables in the garden. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She might not want Hoke to ask questions about her husband because it would remind her of her husband. There's also the prejudice way to look at it.
Since Daisy didn't like black people, she might not want them looking at her stuff, let alone be in the same house.
The next part is confusing. It was when Hoke was going to wipe off her (Daisy) car. Daisy said not to touch her car. She also gave more rude
remarks, such as "it's never been out of the garage", and also "I don't want you touching my car, you understand?". She could
have said that because she doesn't want him driving her anywhere. It might be because she is jealous of her car, or she might not want to take care of
it so she can get a new one and start driving again. Then there is the prejudice way. She doesn't want, in her words, "one of them" touching
something of hers that's valuable, let alone anything being touched. Hoke offers to go sit in the kitchen until five o'clock. He probably expected to get a
reply from Daisy telling him not to, but instead she just told him that it was okay. That was rude of her.
Hoke told Daisy that he had to take her to Piggly Wiggly to buy coffee and Dutch Cleanser because they were running low and Idella told them to
buy it. She (Daisy) said she was going to take the trolley instead. Daisy likes doing things on her own, so that could be why she didn't want Hoke to
take her. It could

Driving Miss Daisy Tandy
"Driving Miss Daisy": Jessica Tandy
In the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" Jessica Tandy is Miss Daisy, an aging, stubborn and well–off Jewish local of 1948 Atlanta, whose life is furled
when her son, concerned about her increasingly irrational road intelligence, engages Hoke as her driver. Jessica Tandy does a great job of bringing the
dramatic character of Miss Daisy to life. She brings Miss Daisy to life through her bossy personality, and her vulnerability through her interaction with
the other characters.
Tandy gives a memorable performance when portraying Miss Daisy's bossy personality. Miss Daisy has a sharp tongue. At the beginning of the film,

The best example is the drive to Mobile. After Hoke and Miss Daisy have got lost and are running late to Uncle Walter's birthday party, Hoke tells
Miss Daisy he has to stop the car to relieve himself. Miss Daisy refuses to let him stop, and Hoke is forced to confront her. First, he must help her
understand his position. He does this by reminding her that he could not go at the gas station where they stopped because there were no "colored"
restrooms. He also authentically shares with Miss Daisy how it feels for him as a grown man to have to ask her permission to stop the car so he
can relieve himself. When Hoke leaves the car, Miss Daisy become frightened and the audience immediately realizes that beneath her bluster she feels
vulnerable and scared. In the article The Stage: 'Driving Miss Daisy' by Mel Gussow, he remarks how "Miss Daisy's crusty façade gradually
crumbles as she comes to trust–and to cherish–Mr. Freeman" (Gussow). Through the facial expressions that Tandy expresses in the scene provides
evidence of power of speaking the truth in love and also the power of recognizing Miss Daisy's vulnerability. Through her bossy personality, and her
vulnerability Miss Daisy is brought to life by Jessica Tandy in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy". Tandy shows that Miss Daisy's independence if very

Symbolism In A Rose For Emily And Barn Burning
Although Henry James died when William Faulkner was but a young man, both authors contributed to literature with great works, using symbolism
to play a huge role in their short stories. In James' "Daisy Miller", he incorporates symbols to help characterize the female protagonist of his story.
Meanwhile, Faulkner uses symbolism in several of his stories, including "A Rose for Emily" and "Barn Burning", having ordinary objects represent
characteristics of his main characters. "Daisy Miller" follows a young man who finds himself infatuated with the lovely Miss Daisy Miller. Though he

Miss Emily is a isolated woman, who lives alone with a servant. She refuses to accept the modernization of the world, for she "refused to let them
fasten the metal numbers above her door and attach a mailbox to it" (662). Miss Emily's house is a traditional home. In fact, it is almost like a
historical monument for a town that is growing more modern. Miss Emily's refusal to add to or alter the house reveals her mindset that she will
not allow for her family home to become like that of the other houses in her town; in other words, Miss Emily is against modernization.
Furthermore, Miss Emily's father plays a role in her life, even after he passes away. When he was alive he controlled his daughter, not allowing her
to date the young men that were interested in her; additionally, following his death, Emily still seems to be influenced by her father: "We knew that
with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her" (662). Miss Emily's father takes away the possibility of her leaving him. He
isolates her from the world, especially young gentlemen, which leads to her solitary life; moreover, her father represents Miss Emily's isolation, with
his overwhelming control succeeding his death. However, Miss Emily does find one

Examples Of Relationships In The Great Gatsby
Love and Relationships– the Great Gatsby
"In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity. (Erik Erikson). Your identity is who you are, it

relationships. "Just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."(Great Gatsby, pg1), In the Great Gatsby by
F. Scott Fitzgerald the readers see many of the main characters undergoing a change of identity. One of the main causes of this change in identity of
these characters is the age old trap of love.
In the first chapter of the book the reader is introduced to Nick Caraway the narrator of the book. Through his eyes we see the change in identity of
many of the characters. We also witness the change of his identity as he starts to mix with his cousin (daisy) and her husband (Tom). While Nick

She is having hard time with driving because of her age. Her son told her that he will hire a driver for her after she dangerous drove in to a
neighbor's house. She did not like the idea because she sees driving as fun, freedom, and being independent. Her son insists, he hire her a driver
named Mr. Hoke. At first, Miss. Daisy refuse the driver to take her anywhere but because Mr. Hoke was patience, he convince her to let him driver

I learned how to be patient when dealing with people and as a nurse you have to be patient with your clients. You have to provide them with all the
information they need and allow them to make their own decisions. For instance Hoke and Boolie provided Miss Daisy with the information she
needs to help her change her mine to have a driver instead of driving herself and they waited for her to change her mine instead of forcing her. I
learned to love people no matter their race, religion, or cultural background. In the movie, Hoke showed a lot of love to Miss Daisy even though
they are from different cultural background and he won her heart from doing so. Boolie also showed so much love for her mother in the movie. He
was always there for her when she needs him. On one occasion she called him to come over to her house, he thought it was something serious, when
he came she told him that one of her can fish was missing, somebody has stolen it. His son was very angry because his mother called him to come

Characteristics Of Jordan Baker In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby
The novel The Great Gatsby has many different characters, and all of them are different and unique. Daisy Buchanan is egocentric, selfish and
uncaring. Jordan Baker is careless, nosey and reckless. Nick Carraway is trusting, calm and considerate, throughout the story Nick trusted that the
characters could and would become better people. Jordan Baker is careless, nosey and reckless throughout the novel and this behavior throughout the
novel causes Nick Carraway to break off communication with her. "A subdued impassioned murmur was audible in the room beyond and Miss Baker

never judging people to make Gatsby feel better. "I lived at west egg... My house was at the very tip of the egg, only fifty yards from the sound,
and squeezed between two huge places that rented for twelve or fifteen thousand a season" (9), Nick Carraway rented a small cabin that is in the

All The President's Men Essay
Freeman & Redford's Acting Style, Believability and Physicality Morgan Freeman's role as Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy and Robert Redford's role
as Bob Woodward in All the President's Men both displayed a superb acting style, provided the audience with a believable performance, and had
physicality that helped to driving their acting performance home. Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford played their characters well. Both men
allowed us as viewers to feel as if the scenes we were watching were occurring in real life. Since both films were based around real life events, the
two men gave justice to their characters as can be seen in the dedication that they provide their characters. In Freeman's case, he is persistent in trying
to actually do his job by driving Miss Daisy around, while Redford along with his co–worker are persistent in finding out the truth about the burglary at
Watergate. Going along this framework, both men tried to do the right thing in all the situations that they were placed in. Freeman did not feel right

conservative, Jewish woman. Freeman's character is patient, although persistent in his quest to have Miss Daisy accept him as her personal driver.
The movie spans over twenty years, as we watch the slow changes take place in Hoke and Miss Daisy's relationship. Robert Redford played the role
of a young, and new reporter for the Washington Post, which allowed him to create a more fast pace feeling with his character. Redford successfully
allowed his character to be persistent and have a fast pace feeling as can be seen with the little time that is wasted in finding the next person to

The Great Gatsby Dishonesty Quotes Analysis
The Great Gatsby; F. Scott Fitzgerald
Without rules and regulations the wealthy can live very extravagant lushes lives but there are consequences for dishonesty. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The
Great Gatsby dishonesty supplies a method of creating escape from consequence for the wealthy. The wealthy feels as if they are better than the other
classes and can lie. Without consequences, Fitzgerald shows this by using diction to show how dishonest behavior, manmade privileges, and social
mannerisms cause the wealthy to live recklessly without consequences. Throughout this book gatsby's choice lead him to his ultimate downfall.
Gatsby's life has been told many ways and he has not been honest to many people about it, leading to the end of the book where there are a series of
events that inevitably kill Jay Gatsby. "'Was Daisy driving?' 'Yes,' he said after a moment, 'but of course I'll say I was ...'"(Fitzgerald 15). The
paradoxical idea of who was driving the car and the lie Gatsby will tell, enforces the idea of dishonest behavior. The contradiction between true events
and what will be told to the public, except for Nick, connects the belief that they can get away with the killing of ... Show more content on

Should The Driving Miss Daisy Be Kept In The School...
Driving Miss Daisy is a great educational movie/play script to give to the class because of how it teaches children about discrimination and how
people can change. Driving Miss Daisy should be kept in the 7th grade educational curriculum because it demonstrates the effects of racism, addresses
discrimination of age and religion, and describes the how people who were once mean can turn quite the opposite. Read on to find out how Driving
Miss Daisy, a great play, can help students as a whole learn how to to be a better person and learn about some troubled times in history. In the first
place, Driving Miss Daisy should be kept because the story gives the audience a firm understanding of what racism was like back in time. Driving
Miss Daisy shows a sad but important time in history that was very racist. An example of this is when in the movie and script the State Trooper 1
says "An old Nigger and an old Jew woman takin' off down the road together." Driving Miss Daisy shows what racism is and how it happened back in
time. This is important because students can hopefully stop racism in schools now knowing the effect it puts on people. An example ... Show more

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
While most novels that are read for school typically use physical objects and maybe even characters as forms of symbolism to convey a deeper
meaning within that is not in the same realm as the main plot, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is notable for using different colors as
symbols to display deeper themes. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses various colors to describe the qualities of different characters and the
circumstances of events that take place within the story. Three colors and their symbolic meaning in the novel come to mind with this topic: green
is used mainly to convey a meaning of perhaps unreachable hope or desire, the color grey is utilized as an indicator of lifelessness or otherwise a
sense of "boredom", and the color yellow is generally a strong descriptor of death and corruption. Whether or not they showed up for a prolonged
period of time, all three of these colors are quite important at different points in the novel.
The first notable color that showed up in The Great Gatsby is green. This color is a strong portrayer of "hope", or otherwise "desire" that may be too
difficult to actually reach. It portrays a very large part of the plot well, and is highly indicative of what happens later–on in the bulk of the story; this
specific instance is described early, specifically at the end of the first chapter. During that moment in the novel,Jay Gatsby is first "seen", and is
described standing at the end of his dock

Theme Of Hopelessness In The Great Gatsby
Futility and despair are common themes that overwhelm many tragedies. "The Great Gatsby" is a novel that follows this precedent. Regardless of the
efforts of the protagonist to have happy endings, unexpected events direct them back into misfortune. In the novel, "The Great Gatsby" Francis Scott
Fitzgerald creates the tone of hopelessness. This is achieved through the specific use of diction, the dissatisfaction of characters and unfaithful
marriages.
Francis Scott Fitzgerald manipulates the literary device of diction to present the tone of hopelessness found in the novel. Primarily, neighboring the end

This is why the color blue is associated with it being a cool color. The diction of these musical pieces adds to the tone of hopelessness in the novel.
Moreover, not only does diction display the hopelessness of the novel, but as well as the dissatisfaction of characters. Throughout the novel the truth of
Gatsby's wealth is unknown with a lot of speculation as to how he acquired such wealth. It appears to the reader that this mysterious character of Jay
Gatsby always existed. The truth to these questions are reveal when Gatsby explains to Nick "His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm
people...For over a year he had been beating his way along the south shore of Lake Superior as a clamв€’digger and a salmonв€’fisher or in any
other capacity that brought him food and bed." This description of Gatsby being poor contrasts perfectly with the state Gatsby is in when he first
meets Nick. Gatsby becomes very wealthy, so wealthy that his house is described by Nick as "the one on my right was a colossal affair by any
standard it was a factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one side, spanking new under a thin beard of raw ivy, and a
marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of lawn and garden. it was Gatsby's mansion." Gatsby legitimately began with nothing and ended
up being one of the riches people of his time and yet he was still dissatisfied with his life because he did not have Daisy. He had everything a man

Daisy lives a wealthy life which makes others enviable. However, as a matter of fact, Daisy has nothing except money. At that time Daisy is just in the
unimportant social position and doesn't have profound existence value. She is only an attachment of men and enjoys the affluent life. In the fact, she
does enjoy the life for the money rather than love.
Five years ago, Daisy was by far the most popular girl with the officers from Camp Taylor. One of them was in the car with her.It was Gatsby. The
way he looked at her is the way all girls want to be looked at. And both of them fell in love with each other at that time. However, Gatsby was sent
off to war. Daisy waited for him lonely. When the war ended. But for some unknown reason, Gatsby couldn't return. A year later, Tom Buchanan of
Chicago swept in and stole her away. Maybe Daisy was tired of waiting and maybe she just attracted by the wealth which can be brought to her by

really close from her home and would visit often to check up on her. Another example is that Hoke was able to drive through a storm to bring Miss

personal life satisfaction. This film is an excellent film to describe the processes and changes that older adults go through. The way Miss Daisy was

The Great Gatsby Literary Analysis The Great Gatsby includes many forms of important literary elements. The element that stands out the most is
conflict. Throughout The Great Gatsby many conflicts arise and the main character deals with some very interesting situations. The author,F. Scott
Fitzgerald, does a tremendous job of allowing those conflicts to sneak up on the reader. In The Great Gatsby, the amount of conflict surely increases
towards the end, and both internal and external conflict are being shown throughout the book. Nick Carraway, the main character, is very calm and
collected, although he is going through many conflicts in the story, The Great Gatsby. Already somewhat shy, Nick is moving to New York to learn
and take part in the bond business (Fitzgerald 3). As Nick's character is unfolding during the beginning of the novel, Nick is describing a visit with
his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. Fitzgerald describes the character Tom, "Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the
enormous power of that body..." (7). As Nick is continuing to go on about Tom, the reader can see that he is acting in a possibly intimidated manner.
This is showing his internal conflict with self image. Fitzgerald continues on about Tom and includes some dialogue from Tom to Nick, "'...just
because I'm stronger and more of a man than you are.'"(7). This is feeding into Nick's internal conflict of self image and

Gerald Scott was published in 1925. This story is has to do with a rich young man whose name is Jay Gatsby. In the book, many people have different
dreams for their life. However, their dreams cannot be accomplished, and they become shattered in the end. The story begins with Nick who is the
narrator of this story. Nick is a straightforward person who knows all the events in the book. Some people believe that Nick is just a bystander when
he describes this story. I don't think so. He is the only person that felt bad for Gatsby when was killed. His mood was ever–changing with the
advancing story. I believe this is evidence that he is not only the narrator but also the protagonist in the story. All of the plots are around the lead
characters, Gatsby and Daisy. As the story unravels, their personalities are revealed. On the surface, Gatsby was born in the rich family and he
was very gentle and confident. Daisy wanted to be rich and she liked money. In fact, Gatsby has a pathetic personality. If he were poor, he would
not have had the confidence to pursue Daisy. Daisy wanted to have a steady life. Although she liked Gatsby, she knew that he wouldn't be able to
give her that. Therefore, she decided to just stay with her husband. My favorite character in the book happens to be Nick because he was the one
person who actually understood who Gatsby really was. I felt sad for Gatsby. He didn't get anything in the end. He even lost his life. When I read
about Gatsby's watching Daisy's house, I feel sad because he was lonely and I could feel his loneliness. Although he had so much money, he couldn't
have the one thing he really wanted. What he could do was watching Daisy's house to miss her. To sum up, I learned something deep from this book.
One thing is about Gatsby. On the face, he is brilliant. But in fact, he is a lonely person. Sometimes, people envy rich men. They don't realize that rich

Comparing Don Quixote, Driving Miss Daisy, And Huckleberry...
The textbook says that love can often be described as "caring more for another than oneself", resulting in the argument that platonic love is almost
always present in friendships (R. Janaro). This idea is supported with examples from Don Quixote, Driving Miss Daisy, and Huckleberry Finn. The
common factor in the stories is the notion that one of the two main characters is concerned so deeply for the other that it can be said that they love the
other person. The book says that the relationships in the three stories qualifies as friendship but also as love. I disagree with this idea that caring
excessively for another person is labeled as love. I care deeply for all of my friends, regardless of gender and do everything in my power to make sure

Driving Miss Daisy Essay
Driving Miss Daisy is a 1987 Pulitzer Prize–winning play written by Alfred Uhry that is set in the mid–1900s. The film directed by Bruce Beresford
affectionately explores the twenty plus year relationship between an old white Jewish wealthy women by the name of Daisy living in the south and the
strong–willed African–American chauffeur Hoke her son hires for her. How is this drama, comedy structured film between the conflicting relationships
of two outsiders be able to appeal to our current culture and be deemed worth watching?
Overall my general impression towards the award winning film "Driving Miss Daisy" is a that Bruce Beresford's film is expressed with great love and
patience, telling a story that takes 25 years to unfold, exploring its characters as few films take the time to do. Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy do
a fantastic job in this immensely subtle film, in which hardly any of the most important information is carried in the dialogue and in which body
language, tone of voice or the look in an eye can be the most important thing in a scene. After being surrounded by many movies in which shallow and

Examples Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The novel, The Great Gatsby, by author F. Scott Fitzgerald, is an eye opener onto the reality of the wealthy's lives. The "American Dream" is that
supposedly with hard work and perseverance an amazing life can be had here, but as the old saying goes, money cannot buy happiness. This philosophy
is definitely present here, as the book highlights the ingenuine and twisted life that this group of 'friends' live. From the outside, their lives may seem
perfect, but when taking a closer look the truth comes out. The group struggles with staying monogamous, lying and faking everything. In The Great
Gatsby, Fitzgerald talks about how phony and unattainable the "American Dream" is, proving that money cannot buy happiness

Daisy and Gatsby's feelings for eachother are genuine and strong, just like Tom and Myrtle's are. The only problem, is that they are married, and
refuse to end that legal bond. Daisy is broken inside, and her love for Gatsby is blatantly obvious, basically spelled out right in front of the readers.
As Daisy says, '"They're such beautiful shirts,' she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. 'It makes me sad because I've never seen such – such
beautiful shirts before"'(49). Daisy is crying over Gatsby's shirts. His shirts. She has bottled up her emotions and love for him for so long, that she
is ready to burst, and something as insignificant as his shirts made her incredibly emotional. This is such a great representation of her love, because
even though it does not actually say how she is in love with him, her actions speak louder than words can. Marriage is supposed to be a beautiful
lifetime commitment, but in the lives of the characters, it is all about what is the best on the outside rather than the inside. Gatsby is known for the
elaborate and insane parties that he throws. He has more money than he knows what to do with, so he throws these crazy parties. The parties are big
and over the top, and definitely not understated, but he is. Gatsby slinks into the corner during his own parties, just people watching, acting like a
nobody. Instead of having the parties with the people he loves and enjoys spending time with, he

Essay on Obstackes and Challenges in Life
Life is something that is much more complex than anyone can imagine. No matter who the person is or how old they are, everyone faces various
obstacles and challenges that make their lives difficult. Some people are faced with physical limitations such as not being able to pick something up
or walk up a flight of stairs while others may be faced with mental limitations such as being unable to comprehend something that's going on. Two of
the toughest points in an individual's life come during the years of adolescence and late adulthood. These points of a person's life can be
overwhelming and stressful as a person tries their best to grasp the changes occurring before their very eyes. Adolescence is often a time where drastic
changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A movie that defines many of the issues adolescents are faced with is Rebel Without a Cause. For example, when Jim Stark repeatedly asks his
father "what do you do when you have to be a man?" we see how Jim is dealing with Erikson's stage of identity versus role confusion. Still only in
high school, Jim is trying to figure out what stage in his life defines him as a man by his family and culture. He finds that although he may be
gaining more privileges year by year, he is still under the control of his parents. There are also examples of risky behavior in this movie when Buzz
challenges some thugs to a knife fight and when the teenagers engage in a game that involved jumping out of a car as late as possible before it
goes over a cliff. Part of their logic behind doing this, as explained in the previous paragraph is because their brains were not yet fully developed
and they felt as if they were indestructible. Lastly, there is also an example of peer pressure in the movie when Jim decides to engage in the knife
fight after the thugs call him a "chicken". Jim wanted to show his friends and others around him that he was not afraid to turn down a challenge and
would do anything to beat these thugs, even if he secretly had some doubt in his mind. There are also other examples of peer pressure such as when
the teenagers

Should Miss Daisy Be Taught In Schools
"Hard times will always reveal true friends." –Unknown. Well, students were reading Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry, A script about an old Jewish
woman, who had an African–American driver named Hooke around the year (1989). When there was still segregation in the south Miss Daisy and
Hooke had learned to be the close of friends. Students are in trouble, they want to take Driving Miss Daisy out of the reading book list. Driving Miss
Daisy should be kept in the 7th–grade curriculum because it teaches the students Prejudice is in the past and is still with people today, the history of
African American people and friendship can come from anywhere.
This script teaches kids about African–American history. A glimpse of what African Americans had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the students were reading the script, they Heard people referring to African American people as "them", rather than using their name. Early
in the morning Miss Daisy called her son Bootie and rushed him to get to her house. When he got there she told him hoke stole from her. Miss
Daisy said, ВЁLike children. If they want something, they just take itВЁ! That's Miss Daisy referring to all African American people. When Hoke
came in he told her that he took her can of salmon because the food she left for him was stiff. So he bought her a can of food to replace what he
took. Students also had to do a project to find if prejudices still existed. Students had to read articles on different kind of prejudices and write a
summary and a section about how people were acting, from the last two years. To see people still don't respect each other as humans even after all the
mistakes the United State made.
The school should keep this book because it shows kids that friendship comes from unaccepted places. When students first Started reading the book
driving Miss Daisy, Miss Daisy didn't want anything to do with Hoke she couldn't stand him she was rude to him. On Hoke's first day of work for
her, she didn't let him do anything. When it was time for Idella and Hoke to

On a social level, older adult engages in less interaction with other, in terms of both day to day, face to face encounters and participation in society as a whole. Disengagement theory suggests that withdrawal is a mutual process because norms and expectation about aging, society, in general, begin to disengage from those in late adulthood. This shows the key signs of memory deterioration as well as reasoning which are common in Alzheimer's ( Meyers, 2011, p. 460). These symptoms are present when Daisy keeps believing that she is a teacher and tries to convince Hoke too. A cause of this is the lack of the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine in the brain. As people grow older the neurons that make Acetylcholine can start to deteriorate and no longer produce this vital neurotransmitter, which is key in both learning and memory (Meyers, 2011, p. 57). Lack of Acetylcholine explains why when Daisy got older she showed the symptoms of these two degenerative diseases. Parkinson's disease is also common in the elderly population like dementia and Alzheimer's. Daisy shows symptoms of Parkinson's such as bradykinesia which causes Daisy to move slowly as she walks. She also shows the key signs of tremors as shown when she attempts to eat the pie and cannot stop shaking with the fork in her hand. Another symptom that Daisy shows is a change in the way she speaks, her speech pattern becoming slow and drawn out (Mayo Clinic). Parkinson's disease can be caused by a lack of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is integral in functions such as bodily movement, emotion, and attention. • 4. Driving Miss Daisy Driving Miss Daisy Driving Miss Daisy is an American comedy–drama movie in which the growth of a relationship between a southern Jewish widowed teacher, Miss Daisy, and her African–American chauffeur, Hoke, is depicted. Besides having Idella, an African–American elderly woman, as her housemaid, Miss Daisy resides by herself in a big house in Atlanta. After Miss Daisy's car accident in her yard, Hoke is hired by Miss Daisy's son, Boolie, who is concerned about his mother's abilities to drive.Miss Daisy, who takes a great pride in her independence, resists accepting Hoke as a chauffeur and having an extra hand around the house besides Idella. During the period of Civil Right Movement, both Jews and people of color were victims of racial prejudice. Hoke, who is aware of the Black–Jewish alliance, comes to the Boolie, a Jew, for a job and says "I'd rather work for Jews...I know folks say they stingy and cheap ... But don't say none of that around me!" While Boolie is very considerate toward Hoke and other African–Americans who work for his family, Miss Daisy is more conservative toward them in a way that her biases slow down the growth of her relationship with Hoke, who probably could even become her lover if they were to meet in more recent time. However, she has grown up in a Southern culture with the privilege of being White and having a higher socioeconomic status. Southern tradition of considering African–American as a second–class citizen is ingrained in her. This is not to say that Miss Daisy does not believe in equal right as she always insists that she is not a prejudice woman and shows interest in the process of Civil Right Movement by saying "I think it's wonderful the way things are changing." It is only after couple of incidences throughout the time, including bombing the Jewish Temple and Martin Luther King speech, that she becomes aware of her prejudice and soften her attitude toward ... Scott Fitzgerald takes place in the prohibition era, telling a story full of affairs and illegal activities. In Fitzgerald's novel, Tom Buchanan and George Wilson are more similar than different in their attitude towards women, their ways of showing violence, and their reactions to being cuckolded. Sexism was very prominent in the early 1920s; Tom's unfaithfulness is fueled by his sexist nature and rudeness towards women. Tom cuts off women many times in his dinner with Nick and Miss Baker. This becomes especially important when individuals come from dissimilar cultural backgrounds. If the individuals take the time to learn about the other's culture many stereotypes and misconceptions will be eliminated. If they slow down and listen to one another they will likely find that despite their differences they share many basic needs; this can serve as the common ground or a starting point needed for understanding one another. Geert Hofstede, a cultural anthropologist examined cultures and ordered them according by dominant patterns of value orientations regarding power, self, gender, predictability, and time (Lustig & Koester, 2010). Analyzing the power distance patterns of Miss Daisy and Hoke's respective cultures it becomes evident there were major differences overcome in order for these two to form a relationship. All cultures have preconceived beliefs regarding class inequalities. Miss Daisy held it to be true that each individual has a rightful place in society and that authority figures should not be confronted or questioned. During the time period this film portrays the European American culture can be ascribed as a culture with a large power distance. African American culture during the civil rights movement was seeking to minimize power distances, and believed that class and social inequalities should be minimized. Throughout most of the film Miss Daisy exemplifies large power distances demonstrating her beliefs regarding her status, and her beliefs that her authority should not be challenged. Despite her insistence that she was not prejudice, she repeatedly demonstrated her beliefs that she was superior to and separate from African Americans by her continually referencing them as "they," and referring to African Americans as little children who need to be instructed on what to do. • 7. The Role Of Women In The Great Gatsby At first glance it may seem that throughout The Great Gatsby the women play a very submissive part and always seem to stay obedient to the men of the story. The women in the setting of the novel suggest that they support the idea that the inherited wealthy men have the utmost authority because the women always seem to obey their every word. When in reality, the men's wealth is just a veil to camouflage the fact that under the radar, the women throughout the entirety of the novel are actually the puppet masters behind the scenes of everything that goes on from end to end of the novel. Because males comfortably become more wealthy while females frequently collect commands and judgments, it is possible to make the logical leap to believing that although men have the "fatherly authority", the women still seem to have the upper hand. In The Great Gatsby, many, if not all, men collectively gather wealth in a consistent and dependable manner. However, when looking at what the women collect and how they collect throughout the novel's entirety, they seem to collect influence and power in their own sort of way. Even though it isn't completely evident when first taking a look at them, you can still see how manipulative and they are authoritative when they always seem to get their way, what they want, and when they want it. For example, Daisy wanted to be with Gatsby and Tom simultaneously because she claimed to care about both of them equally, and although for a short time, she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Great Gatsby Foreshadowing, in literature, is used to indicate a significant event or a series of significant events that occur later on in the piece of writing. Often, the reader does not fully comprehend the importance of indicative words and/or phrases until being made aware of them later. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald foreshadows the inevitable outcome for his main star, Jay Gatsby. The events prior to Gatsby's death all foreshadow the final outcome. Almost every characters are foreshadowed with how they end up. Fitzgerald uses imagery to convey hints and clues to Gatsby and everyone surrounding him and all of their eventual destination. Firstly, Fitzgerald uses a few incidents involving cars to foreshadow the recklessness of Daisy, resulting in the death od Myrtle. In chapter three, Owl–eyes is accused of crashing his car in the ditch. When in reality, it was a man who was drunk and disordered. Owl–eyes represents a lack of vision within the story. Of course, the recklessness of the drunk man with the car foreshadows Daisy's recklessness with Gatsby's car. To further the foreshadowing of that event, Owl–eyes insists that the problem is not the tire, that is lying on the ground, but is that his car is out of gas and requests that it be brought to the gas station: "'Wonder'ff tell me where there's a gas'line station?' At least a dozen men ... explained to [Owl–eyes] that wheel and car were no longer joined by any physical bond" (Fitzgerald 56). Not only does Owl–eyes have impaired vision, but this also foreshadows when Tom, Nick, and Jordan stop at the Wilson's auto mechanic shop for gas. Before getting in the car, Tom argues with Daisy and Gatsby about the entire love triangle. Tom insists on driving Gatsby's bright car with Daisy. Daisy chooses to go with Gatsby in Toms car. Out of rage, Tom drives fast and recklessly. The recklessness in Gatsby's car foreshadows the later recklessness is the same car, but with Daisy at the wheel. Upon running low on gas, Tom reluctantly stops at the Wilson's mechanic shop. Myrtle, from the window, sees Tom and miss sees Jordan as Tom's wife, Daisy. Myrtle also takes note on the brightly coloured car which foreshadows her misunderstanding of who the car actually belongs to. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alfred Uhry 's warm, Pulitzer Prize–winning theatrical production "Driving Miss Daisy" shows itself to be equally if not more capable of tugging at the audience 's heartstrings in film form. The narrative primarily follows the twenty–five year development of a beautiful, albeit atypical relationship between the proper–but–prickly Miss Daisy, a well–off Jewish senior citizen, and her chauffeur, the ever–attentive Hoke, an African American gentleman. The audience sees the development of the plot primarily through the eyes of the unlikely pair. She displays her close–mindedness early on when she looks down upon Booley 's wife, her daughter–in–law, for "socializing with Episcopalians." This foreshadows what her initial treatment of a black driver will be. If she can 't seem to coexist with white Christians without swallowing her disgust, one dreads her imminent treatment of an unknown black man . She 's overly domineering towards her hired help, in particular Hoke, and yet is unwilling to accept help of any kind from him until six full days into their arrangement. When Hoke commences with dusting the light bulbs around the house and maintaining her garden due to the fact that he hasn 't been asked to drive his patron anywhere for weeks on end, she scolds him, calling his idea of dusting the light bulbs stupid, and responding to his efforts in the garden with a curt "If I want a vegetable garden I 'll grow it myself." Her attitude towards Hoke falls just short of unadulterated loathing, with no motive other than her own delusions about being independent and her obvious dislike for any African American who isn 't Idele. It was all very careless and confused. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy–– they smashed up things and creatures and the retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was the kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made" (Fitzgerald 180–181). In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the characters Daisy and Tom demonstrate the theme of carelessness. 'What a low, vulgar girl!' 'I don't care!' cried Daisy, and began to clog on the brick fireplace." (Fitzgerald 116) It is evident that Daisy's words "I don't care" show that she is inconsiderate of other peoples' feelings. She rudely shows her affection for Gatsby in public without considering the fact that Nick and Myrtle are present. In addition to being inconsiderate of Nick and Jordan, Daisy is inconsiderate to Tom as well. "She looked at him [Tom] blindly. 'Why ––how could I love him––possibly?'" (Fitzgerald 132) It is extremely inconsiderate to be telling Tom–– the man to whom she is married–– that she never loved him. Therefore, even though Tom showed carelessness through being inconsiderate of Daisy, Daisy was the more careless one because she was inconsiderate of more people as a result of her behaviour. These people include Nick, Jordan, and Tom. Finally, both Tom and Daisy show carelessness through being foolish. Tom Buchanan exhibits foolishness by physically harming Daisy. "We all looked. The knuckle was black and blue. 'You did it, Tom,' she said accusingly. 'I know you didn't mean to, but you did do it. That's what I get for marrying a brute of a man, a great, big, hulking physical specimen of a––'" (Fitzgerald 12) This is significant because since Tom was foolish by acting on impulse, Daisy got injured. How did Wilson kill Gatsby on the right spot as he was floating on his swimming pool? As Wilson was sad because of the terrible accident of his wife, Myrtle, he had sleepless night, however, he managed to kill Gatsby without missing one bullet. I think the book is based on emotional rather than logical, because Wilson murdered Gatsby thinking that he might be the murderer of his wife and "lover" of his wife, which is not true. Based on the yellow car, Tom ensures Wilson that it was his car and that he hit Myrtle. I understand when you get mad or furious at someone, you cannot control yourself and just want to do whatever you want, but it's not how life goes. Alfred Uhry wrote the play. It started in nineteen forty–eight and ended in nineteen seventy–three. It's a play based on a female Jew, which is Daisy Werthan, which passes the ages of seventy–two to ninety–seven years old, and a black chauffeur named Hoke. Daisy's son Boolie is stuck in between Daisy's prejudice and Hoke. Here goes. Daisy showed her first type of prejudice when Hoke told her "yo zinnias cold use a little tendin' to". She also gave more rude remarks, such as "it's never been out of the garage", and also "I don't want you touching my car, you understand?". She could have said that because she doesn't want him driving her anywhere. It might be because she is jealous of her car, or she might not want to take care of it so she can get a new one and start driving again. Then there is the prejudice way. She doesn't want, in her words, "one of them" touching something of hers that's valuable, let alone anything being touched. Hoke offers to go sit in the kitchen until five o'clock. He probably expected to get a reply from Daisy telling him not to, but instead she just told him that it was okay. That was rude of her. Hoke told Daisy that he had to take her to Piggly Wiggly to buy coffee and Dutch Cleanser because they were running low and Idella told them to buy it. Scott Fitzgerald While most novels that are read for school typically use physical objects and maybe even characters as forms of symbolism to convey a deeper meaning within that is not in the same realm as the main plot, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is notable for using different colors as symbols to display deeper themes. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses various colors to describe the qualities of different characters and the circumstances of events that take place within the story. Three colors and their symbolic meaning in the novel come to mind with this topic: green is used mainly to convey a meaning of perhaps unreachable hope or desire, the color grey is utilized as an indicator of lifelessness or otherwise a sense of "boredom", and the color yellow is generally a strong descriptor of death and corruption. Whether or not they showed up for a prolonged period of time, all three of these colors are quite important at different points in the novel. The first notable color that showed up in The Great Gatsby is green. This color is a strong portrayer of "hope", or otherwise "desire" that may be too difficult to actually reach. It portrays a very large part of the plot well, and is highly indicative of what happens later–on in the bulk of the story; this specific instance is described early, specifically at the end of the first chapter. • 34. The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Mandi Meins Mrs. Powell Block 4 September 21, 2014 The Great Gatsby Literary Analysis The Great Gatsby includes many forms of important literary elements. The element that stands out the most is conflict. Throughout The Great Gatsby many conflicts arise and the main character deals with some very interesting situations. The author,F. Scott Fitzgerald, does a tremendous job of allowing those conflicts to sneak up on the reader. In The Great Gatsby, the amount of conflict surely increases towards the end, and both internal and external conflict are being shown throughout the book. Nick Carraway, the main character, is very calm and collected, although he is going through many conflicts in the story, The Great Gatsby. Already somewhat shy, Nick is moving to New York to learn and take part in the bond business (Fitzgerald 3). As Nick's character is unfolding during the beginning of the novel, Nick is describing a visit with his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. Fitzgerald describes the character Tom, "Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the enormous power of that body..." (7). As Nick is continuing to go on about Tom, the reader can see that he is acting in a possibly intimidated manner. This is showing his internal conflict with self image. Fitzgerald continues on about Tom and includes some dialogue from Tom to Nick, "'...just because I'm stronger and more of a man than you are.'"(7). This is feeding into Nick's internal conflict of self image and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nick is a straightforward person who knows all the events in the book. Some people believe that Nick is just a bystander when he describes this story. I don't think so. He is the only person that felt bad for Gatsby when was killed. His mood was ever–changing with the advancing story. I believe this is evidence that he is not only the narrator but also the protagonist in the story. All of the plots are around the lead characters, Gatsby and Daisy. As the story unravels, their personalities are revealed. On the surface, Gatsby was born in the rich family and he was very gentle and confident. Daisy wanted to be rich and she liked money. In fact, Gatsby has a pathetic personality. If he were poor, he would not have had the confidence to pursue Daisy. Daisy wanted to have a steady life. My favorite character in the book happens to be Nick because he was the one person who actually understood who Gatsby really was. I felt sad for Gatsby. He didn't get anything in the end. He even lost his life. When I read about Gatsby's watching Daisy's house, I feel sad because he was lonely and I could feel his loneliness. Although he had so much money, he couldn't have the one thing he really wanted. What he could do was watching Daisy's house to miss her. To sum up, I learned something deep from this book. The textbook says that love can often be described as "caring more for another than oneself", resulting in the argument that platonic love is almost always present in friendships (R. Janaro). The common factor in the stories is the notion that one of the two main characters is concerned so deeply for the other that it can be said that they love the other person. How is this drama, comedy structured film between the conflicting relationships of two outsiders be able to appeal to our current culture and be deemed worth watching? Overall my general impression towards the award winning film "Driving Miss Daisy" is a that Bruce Beresford's film is expressed with great love and patience, telling a story that takes 25 years to unfold, exploring its characters as few films take the time to do.
