This document discusses Diane Larsen-Freeman's framework for teaching grammar. It challenges conventional views of grammar by arguing grammar involves form, meaning, and use. It presents a three-dimensional framework for analyzing grammar, with dimensions of form/structure, meaning/semantics, and use/pragmatics. Examples of analyzing the possessive 's and phrasal verbs using this framework are provided. The framework helps teachers identify learning challenges students may face with different grammar points. The goal is not memorizing rules, but developing students' ability to use grammar accurately in communication.
