1. Like all of OK magazines the masthead is in a Box in the left top hand corner and this is a bright red colour and in
bold capitals to really stand out and grab the attention of consumers and people who are looking to buy a magazine if
they are not likely to buy the OK magazine weekly. The font used for the OK magazine’s strong font, complements
how the news and interviews from celebrities is real and trustworthy. Under the Masthead there is the magazines USP
(Unique Selling Point) is that this magazine is ‘First for Celebrity News’ which again shows how this magazine’s news
is new and truthful. Also underneath the masthead is the date and the issue number of the magazine which is an
important part of a weekly magazine.
‘Christmas and New Year Special Double Issue’ is at the top of the magazine cover and is another
‘PUFF’ quote to boost the magazine image and also get people buying the magazine due to the fact
that some people may think that this issue of the magazine is special due to the fact that it covers
two of the most popular events of the year.
Each cover line and plug uses a mixture of headlines
and quotes from stars but all in capital letters to
highlight the importance of the story. For example
‘EXCULSIVE INTERVIEW AND PICTURES’ this stands
out on the front cover due to the fact that the
information is in a coloured box meaning it is
something that will grab people’s attention.
Like all Magazines the barcode is found on the
front cover, for this magazine it is on the side in
the bottom next to an article plug and this
barcode is joined with the price of the magazine
which allows people to know how much they are
paying for the magazine.
Peter Andre is a famous singer and
now family man at this moment in
time for his marriage to doctor Emily
so having them on the front cover as
the central image of the magazine
generates its own interest as some
people may just buy the magazine for
the story about how Peter and Emily
are spending their Christmas. They are
both looking directly at the camera
engaging with the consumer. Emily’s
bright makeup and the Christmassy
background stands out and with the
red of the dress complements the
masthead.
The same font is used across the whole front cover
which makes the cover visually effective along with a
mixture of colours to gain readers and consumers.
Seeing as this magazine is aimed at
women between the ages of 18 and 35
the first thing you see on the magazine is
a picture of Peter Andre which will grab
people attention due to the fact that he
is so well known. Each cover line is about
a topic that would be interesting to their
customers which is something that the
magazine editors take into consideration
when choosing the cover lines and plugs
for the magazine.
