The realm of elder law covers an array of legal issues, ranging from decisions that
must be made about a relative s home health care to appointing a guardian for an
elderly loved one. These decisions often become emotional, and may cause
permanent rifts in families. Many family members have submitted their elder law
disputes to mediation for a more peaceful resolution to these disagreements. Elder
law mediation helps families address a number of conflicts. Financial issues are a
major source of tension as loved ones age. For example, if an elderly relative needs

Family Mediation and Reimbursement of Uninsured Medical Expenses The
reimbursement of uninsured medical expenses must be addressed in any child
support order. Uninsured medical expenses are the portions of a child s medical costs
that insurance does not cover. After a divorce or separation, parents commonly argue
about the reimbursement of uninsured medical expenses. Family mediation may help
these parents figure out how this matter should be approached. During family
mediation, a mediator will discuss the dispute with the parties and help them figure
out how to resolve it. With disputes involving the reimbursement of uninsured
medical expenses, ineffective communication is usually the culprit. The mediator
may suggest a number of ways to resolve these issues. For example, for all expenses,
receipts or invoices should be exchanged within seven days, and reimbursement
should be completed within an additional seven days. Clear expectations and
deadlines will make this process much

Rifleman Dodd Essays
RIFLEMAN DODD: A NOVEL OF THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN The story in
the book talks about an infantry warrior named Private Matthew Dodd and his
journey to re unite with his fellow soldiers. The British army was retreating to the
lines of Torres Vedras and Dodd was left behind since he separated from his
comrades during the retreat in Portugal behind enemy lines. He knew that he had
to do one thing, and that was to kill all the Frenchmen. Private Dodd ran through a
lot of problems during his journey trying to find his way back to his men. With
some help here and there from the natives, but mostly his own, he raids the French
with his rifle to try and prevent them from building a bridge across the Tagus River.

Mind you, this was the little rations he had the night before he was left behind, he
saved it just in case they d run out. With him doing this, he gave himself the hopes
to not only sustain the little amount of food he had but also the strength and
energy that he was going to need in case he would end up in the heat of battle.
After traveling many miles on foot, Dodd crept through several fields during the
day and night time so that he wouldn t run into any Frenchmen. He was seen by
Frenchmen, so the French started to fire at Dodd and still missed. Dodd fired
back and took out numerous amounts of men. As the day goes by, Dodd starts to
feel like he could no longer walk, his next challenge was that he had to go through
during his separation was the battle of fatigue. It was really starting to tear him
away. Fatigue is a major factor to a person who is in the heat of battle because a
person can do so much to keep their strength and move forward without stopping or
giving up. It was hard for Rifleman Dodd because he had been starving for days but
he still found the durability to look beyond himself and continue to fight to return
back to his men. He had a plan of attack to help him sleep at night and continue on
with his mission in the morning by using tactics. For example, one night he slept with
his pack on his back sitting straight up with his rifle
How To Read Like A Writer By Mike Bunn
When studying through a textbook, reading an online blog, or watching a
YouTube video, most people simply absorb the raw information that is provided
after all, that is what those sources are generally used for. However, behind all that
information lies deeper knowledge of a vast ocean of context. This context sets the
criteria for effectiveness, a topic discussed in the essay How to Read Like a Writer
by Mike Bunn. Bunn states that every text or video publisher has an intended audience
that it aims to please, and they achieve those goals through a specific choice of
conversation, selected diction, and an understanding of the consequences that could
happen after the audience reads or watches their content. The correct choices
increases the effectiveness of hooking the attention of their audience. There were
several articles that displayed efforts of effectiveness for their target audience, but this
essay will discuss one YouTubevideo that stood out amongst the rest. In the YouTube
video How Wolves Change Rivers published by Sustainable Human, the narrator
argues that the introductions of wolves to Yellowstone National Park not only altered
the ecology of animals, but that they also brought upon massive improvements to the
luscious environment as well. The author brings upon the conversation by discussing
a term used in the food chain called the trophic cascade , a term that describes how
the introduction of an organism at that top of the food chain can
Father Son Relationships In The Last Of The Mohicans
In The Last of the Mohicans , we see many different relationships being portrayed
between the characters. We see a father son relationship between Chingachgook and
Uncas, and we also see a father daughter relationship between Munro and his
daughters. Although the relationships themselves are similar, there are many
differences between the two different families. The father son relationship between
Chingachgook and Uncas is more of a stern relationship than a loving one. The father
son bond that most relationships tend to have is not seen as much between
Chingachgook and Uncas. Although the affection between each other is definitely
there, it s not as visible as most feelings between them. Their relationship is more of
an apprentice and their master. Chingachgook is determined to teach Uncas right
from wrong, regardless the situation. Throughout the forest scene, and fight scenes,
we see Chingachgook criticizing Uncas. Where praise is due, he gives it. But while
this relationship is more of an apprenticeship for Uncas and his father, Munro has a
completely different relationship between him and his daughters.... Show more

The relationship Munro has with his daughters is the typical dad and daughter
relationship. Munro loves his daughters, and his daughters love him. He also tries to
shield them from anything negative, contrasting to what Chingachgook does with
Uncas. We see a prime example of this when Heyward walks into Munro s room to
tell him something, and Munro has the girls leave so they don t hear anything. Munro
treats them like children, much unlike how Chingachgook treats Uncas. We view this
in how immature and unprepared Alice is for conflict. We also catch Alice sitting on
Munro s knee, much like a young child. This shows much in how the bond with their
father is
Differences Of Social Class And Inequality Of Class
Social class and equality of class has come a long way, from racial struggles all the
way to woman suffrage. Although, with these advances there are still differences
between social class that bring out a serious sense of inequality. Some of the social
class differences could be because of things such as: a family s income, race, and
someone s educational level. There are social standards that can limit certain class
abilities to accomplish high reaching goals. There are some people that truly
believe that if someone is to fall under a labelled category, that they may not be as
qualified as another person because of something out of their control. There is a
disagreement on what abilities lower class families have against a higher class
family. Lower class is defined as the lowest social rank or standing due to low
income, lack of skills or education, and the like , while a high class is deemed
naturally superior in all qualities. In Angela Locke s article Born Poor and Smart
she makes the comment about her mother that says, She did things that poor people
aren t supposed to do (338). What she means by things poor people aren t supposed
to do was that her mother educated her children extremely well and this lead to a
high intelligence level in her kids. Locke s mother providing this for her children
opened up opportunities for them that would not have gotten otherwise. According to
Brink Lindsey in his article Culture of Success this should not have been
Argumentative Essay On Creationism
The Big Bang, you all know what it is. Whether you completed an assignment on it
or you ve seen the TV shows Intro. It s a product of true science backed with hard
facts it created the planet your standing on and all the animals around us. But a
force around us is threatening to tear down our great society. It does not discriminate
it affects men, woman the young and the old It s a Trojan horse that has embedded
itself so deep into all our lives. Religionthat s it there s nothing more to it. Religion
is one of the roots to all evil in this world. Whether it s a sick and dying child denied
treatment from their own parents because God will help him, or it could be a family
slaughtered in their own home because they follow the wrong faith. It all leads back
to the wolf in sheep s clothing we know as religion.
When Charles Darwin first explained the theory of evolution 143 years ago, the
scientists of the time wouldn t accept it as the truth. The amount of evidence that
has proven the theory outweighs any evidence of creationism, from palaeontology,
genetics and zoology. But sadly in the 21st century, we are the most scientifically
advanced race we know of but people still believe in creationism. If 200,000 people
can say they are Jedi or followers of the flying spaghetti monster, which is actually a
real religion. Any person in this room can create a religion if they want. We can
barely call the theory of evolution a theory anymore, the evidence is too abundant
because
Love In Virgil s The Time Machine
The ancient Roman poet, Virgil, once said, Love conquers all. This has been
conveyed in many ways, and many people tend to believe it. The Time Machine is a
classic novel that will relate to all teens by showing them that love will remain even
when everything else is gone. In The Time Machine, the author uses conflict to teach
that even when humans have lost all intelligence and strength, lovewill always
remain. For example, The Time Traveler shows how the Eloiconvey affection when
he says, We passed each other flowers, and she kissed my hands. I did the same to
hers. This means that after The Time Traveler saved an Eloi named Weena s life,
she grew rather fond of him. As a result, her and The Time Traveler became friends.
This evidence proves that even though Weena is lacking in much, she still is able
to convey her love and affection toward The Time Traveler. Additionally, The Time
Traveler states, Weena had been hugely delighted when I began to carry her, but
after a time she desired me to let her down, and ran along by the side of me,
occasionally darting off on either hand to pick flowers to stick in my pockets. This
evidence proves that a lot of the physical strength and knowledge of the Eloi are
gone since it shows that he is having to carry her, and also that she is using his
pockets as vases. Although she doesn t understand that his pockets aren t vases, her
picking flowers still shows her love and affection for The Time Traveler. Clearly, the
Development Of The Intelligent Agent Essay
The essay will briefly introduce the concept of the delegation and think about the
relationship amongst the smart technology assemblage and people. Then, it will put
more empathises on critically analysing two primary types of the intelligent agent,
which transforms our life, although it has led to some criticisms including privacy
and people are labelled as a lesser being . At the end, the essay will look forward to
the development of the intelligent agent in the near future. SMART
TECHONOLOGY AND DELEGATION Today, Smart technology assemblage is
changing the world through transforming the way people live and work. It integrates
a variety of elements of communication technologies and information including
practice, representations, experiences, affects, human bodies, actions and passions
(Slack Wise,2015). The successful assemblage of smart technology shows the
improvement of creativity. For example, smartphone assemblage is an articulation of
software, hardware, the Internet, appearance, application, function, setting,
technology, distribution chains, retailers and more. The assemblage also can be
extended to what it will give, how users perceive the brand value, how it shapes a
private space, and how users use the phone based on previous experience. As to
delegation, people can assign a task or responsibility to smart technology to do
certain jobs, enabling people because they don t have to do and think about them
anymore. That is, delegating to smart technology can

Why Disco Died
Disco music gained popularity during the 1970 s. Most famous disco artists were not
connected to their music and didn t feel it was necessary to take artistic control over
their recordings. With this and the corporate drive to make money, performers
garnered much public attention while producers worked behind the scenes to develop
the disco sound. Along with its catchy beat and syncopated bass line, disco thrived
and soon gained mainstream success that would create an enormous cultural impact
on the music industry as we see it today.
Disco music gained fame through clubs that played these novelty tunes as well as the
gay, latino, and psychedelic communities that flocked said clubs. This genre became
mainstream because of its

Bacon s Rebellion Essay
Previous to the American Revolution, Bacon s Rebellion was one of the largest
revolts in history, and accordingly its consequences include the American Revolution.
It was the war between the English and the Indians, and the civil war between the
colonists of Jamestown and their government. But it was also the fierce struggle
between two powerful leaders with very different beliefs. The African slaves and
white indentured servants joined together to fight side by side against their common
enemies. Sir William Berkeleyarrived in Virginia in 1642 to act as the Colonial
Governor of Virginia. He was the King s envoy in Virginia, though he was a selfish
royalist who believed in himself before the King. He brought together some... Show

Because the low grade tobacco was being overproduced unceasingly, prices
dropped over the years. Tobacco had been the colony s sole way of income for
many years. Berkeley attempted to improve conditions by introducing other
industries and building new towns in several places. Unfortunately, the towns could
not be maintained and other attempts only resulted in dissatisfaction and increased
taxes. Taxes were also increased due to a need for defense against the Dutch and the
Indians. The rising price of English manufactured goods and the increasingly limited
English market created more problems for the Virginians. From the terrifying tales
of Native American attacks, Virginians learned to fear the Native Americans. They
pleaded to the governor for protection from the Native Americans, but Berkeley
refused to listen to their tales of Indians committing murders and thieving. It seemed
to be that the Indians were the ones receiving protection from Berkeley. The
Governor and his grandees were controlling the Indian beaver and otter fur trades,
so he didn t want to lose the profit he was making off of his business of trade with
the Indians. Many white indentured servants were not happy with the Indians who
had ownership rights of land, when they needed to find land to buy when their time
serving was completed. The attack of the Doeg Indians on the plantation of Thomas
Matthews in the summer of 1675 was equivalent to the starting of a forest fire. The

Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay
In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society
has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key
elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid
the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors,
reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle
is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do
not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always
have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and questionwho wrote the definition, why,
and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently... Show more content

What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill
during World War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small
words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to
mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in
the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly
influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors.
Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is
a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and
understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other
things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the
confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate
words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a
concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions
of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly
influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by
Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that
are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history
A Note On Bad News
Communicating Bad News Bad news has come from companies in different forms
over the years, employee layoffs, unexpected financial outcomes, crises both internal
and external, and natural disasters to name a few (French, S. L., Holden, T. Q.,
2012). For Toyota it came in 2010, with 4,872,583 vehicles recalled, accounting for
29.7% of all vehicles recalled that year (Mezey, A., Hamilton, S., Kuwahara, K.,
Sandlin, C., 2013). The failure on the company s part was in how the recalls were
handled, the lack of internal and external communication, as well as the lack of
acceptance of responsibility both played substantial roles in the public s view of the
company.
Background

Which may have to do with the fact that consumer activism is underdeveloped and
lawsuits are uncommon in Japan (Mezey et al., 2012). Although in American and the
West in general the lack of time sensitivity was taken as a sign if indifference and
inconclusiveness on Toyota s part (Mezey et al., 2012).
Internal Communication Issues The lead problem stems from the fact that Toyota
failed to communicate with its own employees that safety was first, quality was
second, and production was third according to the president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda
(Mezey et al., 2012). He stated that Toyota had pursued production over the
development of their people and the organization (Mezey et al., 2012). The failure to
properly communicate between North American and Japanese executives caused
issues, although the North American executives had a better understanding of the
reality of what was happening, they had no say in the recall process (Mezey et al.,
2012). That corporate structure is what prompted the U.S. Secretary of
Transportation, Ray LaHood. to worry that the North American executive issues were
not being communicated in Japan (Mezey et al., 2012). LaHood and the Nation

Ethical issue from GVMs Perspective The Ethical dilemma that GVM faces is
whether they should go ahead with the GV project knowing that there are protests
regarding it. To analyse the situation better we need to look at the three tiers of
responsibility that GVM, as a corporation, owes. The tiers are: Economic, Legal
and Social, Economic being the narrowest and Social being the broadest. Analysis
will be carried out to determine whether there is any breach of these responsibility.
Economic Responsibility At this level, the major responsibility that GVM owes is
to GVFN and to its own sustainability. Going ahead with this project is in the
interest of GVM as they gain profits (Egoism) and as mentioned above it s an act
that s also in the interest of the majority of GVFN (Act Utilitarianism). Tangible
benefits can then be maximized for the various stakeholders, in particular, the
GVFN groups will stand to benefit economically and in terms of standard of living
and GVM who gain maximized profits (Adam Smith, Invisible Hand). Legal
Responsibility From a legal point of view GVM went through all the right legal

Assignment #3 Option 2 The Human Genome Project
Tuesday November 17, 2015
What makes one person differ from the other? Is it physical appearance, personality
or mentality? These three factors separate each individual from one another and it is
what makes them different. Physical appearance, personality and mentality are made
up from the same building blocks which are known as DNA sequences. DNA
(deoxyribonucleic acid), is a self replicating material that is found throughout every
living organism. It s a large macromolecule that transforms characteristics into life.
DNA is made up two strands that run in opposite directions therefore they are known
to be antiparallel. The lagging strand runs in the 5 3 direction while the leading strand
run s in the 3 5 direction (International Baccalaureate Organization, 2009). There s a
phosphate group attached by a covalent bond to the carbon atom which is covalently
attached to a nucleotide base. The two DNA strands are attached to each other by
hydrogen bonds. There are two hydrogen bonds found between Thymine and
Cytosine and three hydrogen bonds found between Guanine and cytosine
(International Baccalaureate Organization, 2009). Many studies have been done in
order to gather information about the human DNA. The sequence of base paring in
DNA was determined by The Human Genome project (International Baccalaureate
Organization, 2009).

The first wave of gentrification ended when the dot com bubble burst and the
number of Ellis act evictions plunged. In 2005, however, after new technology
companies like Google, Facebook, and cisco began attracting thousands of high
paid employees to the bay, the number of Ellis evictions tripled.1 In 2013, Ellis
evictions grew 175 percent from the year before.1 The companies moved to the
south bay but the city attracted many of these young techies. The techies would
live in the city and end up commuting to the Bay area. During that time more than
half of the Ellis evictions were carried out less than a year after a building had
changed hands. Since 2011, 69 percent of the evictions have occurred n the

people out. Whether the individual tech workers are conscious of it or not, they are
complicit in the process of gentrification. The Google bus protests struck a nerve
because they highlighted how the Tech sector is facilitating the forced displacement
of families.

Most gangs are created to form a sense of power and control. All types of problems
are presented to the youths of today growing up in major cities. Before being so
eager to jump to conclusions, we must try to understand these problems, or we will

Charles to develop a deep jealousy of his brother. Subsequently, Charles becomes
enraged one day and tries to kill Adam. The twist to this part of the story is that
Charles did not kill Adam, showing he is not all evil. While Adam is recovering
from the beating, Cyrus enlists Adam in the military. Adam has no desire at all to

the two brothers. Meanwhile, having no choice, once he heals from the beating he

Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants Analysis
Sisterhood of the traveling pants Lifelong friendship can teach you to forgive and
to learn how to deal with your own problems. However sometimes they are not

Blood Transfusion Essay
Blood Transfusion, Adult
Introduction
A blood transfusion is a procedure in which you receive donated blood, including
plasma, platelets, and red blood cells, through an IV tube. You may need a blood
transfusion because of illness, surgery, or injury. The blood may come from a donor.
You may also be able to donate blood for yourself (autologous blood donation) before
a surgery if you know you might require a blood transfusion.
The blood given in a transfusion is made up of different types of cells. You may
receive:
Red blood cells. These carry oxygen to the cells in the body. Red blood cells are the
most common type of transfusion.
White blood cells. These help you fight infections.
Platelets. This helps your blood to clot.
Plasma. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your body s defense system (immune system) may try to attack the new cells. This
complication is rare. The symptoms include fever, chills, nausea, and low back pain
or chest pain.
Infection or disease transmission. This is rare.
You will have a blood test to determine your blood type. This is necessary to know
what kind of blood your body will accept and to match it to the donor blood.
If you are going to have a planned surgery, you may be able to do an autologous
blood donation. This may be done in case you need to have a transfusion.
If you have had an allergic reaction to a transfusion in the past, you may be given
medicine to help prevent a reaction. This medicine may be given to you by mouth or
through an IV.
You will have your temperature, blood pressure, and pulse monitored before the
transfusion.

Apnea without breath is the term used when someone stops breathing for very
short periods of time, usually 10 to 20 seconds. During the apneic episode, the

Linguistic Factors Of Diglossia
The contact between languages is one of the various fields investigated by socio
linguistics. Commonly it is thought that monolingualism is the most usual linguistic
behaviour but language studies disprove this belief showing that all speech
communities and individuals hold a rich linguistic repertoire which may include two
or more distinct languages, different varieties of the same languageand a wide range
of registers, styles, social codes etc.
The concept of linguistic repertoire is not to be intended as a mere sum of linguistic
codes since it also concerns the way such codes interact with one another, their
hierarchy and the rules running their use. In order to clear up the logic underlying the
relations emerging from the steady contact among languages sociolinguistics
introduced concepts such as diglossia code switching, bilingualism, dilalia etc.
In the following essay the focus will essentially be on the difference between the
concepts of diglossia and code switching alongside with the description of some
examples supported by an attempt to identify the non linguistic factors which affect
speakers linguistic choices.

ignorance of such principles is considered a real social gaffe and is responsible for

exciting game that provides intense enjoyment for both the competitors and the

motor sports games also range from Fortune 500 companies to small motor clubs

precautions taken to safeguard spectators, only little efforts had been put to protect
motorsport participants from fatalities or serious injuries caused by accidents until in

Many believe that wind power is the best solution to this world s problem it helps fuel
infrastructures without causing air pollution and reduces greenhouse gas emission
(Burnett 247). However, H. Sterling Burnett, author of the article Wind Power
Puffery , suggests differently when he states, No, the truth is wind power s
environmental benefits are usually overstated, while its significant environmental
harms are often ignored (247). Burnett implies there are problems that come
attached to wind power; the main one being wind towers only generate power
within a certain range of wind speed. He adds that wind towers being shut off due to
wind speeds results in fossil fuel powered stations
Post Secondary Education Essay
President Obama once said, Every single one of you has something that you re good
at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to
yourself to discover what that is. That s the opportunity an education can provide. For
about two decades, people have been quarreling about whether post secondary
educationis necessary. Opposers against collegeargue that one can still have a good
job without a college degree. However, post secondary education is essential
because there is a lesser chance of being unemployed, the greater chance of a better
salary, and it can help inspire someone to change the world.

In addition to a better job, college graduates will receive higher pay, in contrast to
those with only high school diplomas. BLS presented that Workers with a
professional degree, such as lawyers and physicians earned about $612 more a
week than did workers with a bachelor s degree, and over $1000 more per week
than workers who have a high school diploma as their highest level of education
(BLS). A well paying job is attainable with college. Having a successful and
luxurious life is not as achievable with only a high school education because the
possibility of having a high paying profession is low. The higher the education one
receives will determine their salary. Another benefit of graduating college is the
opportunity to make the world a better place. President Obama stated that You ll
need the knowledge and problem solving skills you learn in science and math to
cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and
protect our environment (Obama). Most high school graduates do not have the
knowledge to create a resounding difference in the world. Landing a job, higher

Edgar Allan Poe s A Predicament
Major Question: In A Predicament, why is Poe s depiction of Zenobia and Pompey
so particularly disparaging? How does this relate to his vocal opinions on female
sensationalist authors and the literary tactics of abolitionist movement?
Thesis Statement: The silencing and degradation of the characters within Edgar Allan
Poe s A Predicament are produced from the shifting popularity of literary genres in
America resulting in the fear of losing his complete authority over both white women
and black men.
The mid 19th century was marked by an increase in popularity of sentimentalism and
sensationalism in the American literary market. This trend reflected the threatening
of Southern society and its hierarchy that placed white men noticeably above white
women and slaves. This provoked anxiety for Poe, which resulted in his need to both
demean and silence these groups within his short story, A Predicament. The shifting
trends in American literature from this period ... Show more content on

It has been argued that this relationship can be seen throughout Poe s work. For
slaves, Poe attempted to counter abolitionist claims in this particular piece by
reinforcing the Sambo trope. Pompey was described in dehumanized and grotesque
language but did not actually meet any real pain or horror like his mistress. With
strong parallels to antebellum slavery, Poe is able to both belittle black men through
willing submission while also promote slavery through Pompey s weak relationship
with Zenobia. Furthermore, Poe s animosity towards independent women who refuse
to submit to men is immensely apparent within much of his writings. The narrator s
eventual demise reinforces the notion that women, even those who are also writers,
must submit to men in silence. For Poe, submission is required from both of these
groups, so if they refuse to comply, they must be traumatically
The Importance Of The Supernatural In Macbeth
Joseph Joubert once said Without the spiritual world, the material world is a
disheartening enigma. The spiritual world is the supernatural which is attributed to
some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature. In Macbeth there
was a ghost, witches, visions and hallucinations throughout the book which is part of
the supernatural. The witches had prophecies about the future of Macbethand his
friend Banquo which all came true in the end and they showed Macbeth four
apparitions which would also come true. Banquo s ghost appeared at a dinner
Macbeth was having after Banquo got murdered and Banquo s ghost distracted
Macbeth which ended of party. The visions and hallucinations were when Macbeth
saw the dagger and when he heard something tell him that sleep was dead meaning he
would have sleepless days. William Shakespeare made the story more supernatural
than natural by using a ghost, witches, visions, and hallucinations and to prove
Macbeth s inevitable destiny. William Shakespeare made the story more supernatural
by using witches. He had three witches that spoke to Banquo and Macbeth about their
future by telling them three different prophecies that will later come true in the story.
The witches make three prophecies, the first two regarding Macbeth and the last
regarding Banquo. Macbeth shall be named as Thane of Cawdor and then king;
Banquo, although he shall not himself rule in Scotland, will be father to future
generations of kings.

Research Paper On Shared Intention
Gilbert s account of shared intention
In Gilbert s (2009) paper, Shared Intention and Personal Intentions, she had given a
clear statement about shared intention that it is an action acted by agents together as
a body in the future plans. The first step to share intention is to have an agreement
between agents. They usually shared their intention literally and expressed by a
shared intention sentences of form We intend to do A , We are going to do A , and
so on. They may also use the sentences of form like We intend that... to show their
shared intention on thought. In some cases, a future directed shared intention can be
arose without any agreement between agents. For example, Liam and Gary plan to
go to supermarket together. Liam said Let s go to supermarket together this
afternoon. Gary replied Sure. Our fridge is out of food. In this ... Show more content

Under this criterion , the concurrence of all agents is required to change or rescind
the shared intention, or to release an agent from participating in the action, without
special understanding backgrounds (Gilbert, 2009). We can use Liam and Gary
case to illustrate this criterion more. If Gary suddenly do not want to go to
supermarket, instead, he want to go to bank on their way to supermarket, Gary could
not leave unless Liam agree with it. This is because Gary had an agreement with
Liam that they would go to supermarket together this afternoon. If Gary quit the
action, he would betray their agreement and broke their shared intention. On the
other hand, however, if Gary gives an understanding background to Liam in the first
place, that is Gary told Liam that he may go to bank this afternoon when they are
achieving the agreement, Gary can feel free to go without agreed by Liam. Certainly,
one can also make their own decision not to do according to the shared intention, but
it doesn t mean that they had changed or rescind or quit from the shared intention

The Benefits Of Fertilizer In Russia
Within Russia, there are several unmet needs across the nation. One potentially
viable product that our organization can introduce is fertilizer for farmers. Fertilizer
is a product that may vary from area to area, but contains the necessary nutrients that
are needed to add to local soils for the growth of specific agricultural products. This
is a significant need within Russia, as the agricultural industry has been falling behind
in recent years. It seems that the nation has difficulty producing enough agricultural
product to support its needs from year to year. Additionally, farmers do not often use
fertilizers to help their crops, which in turn prevents increased productivity. If farmers

Their cost structure is also inefficient, which will require capital to restructure.
Because they are larger companies these changes will take time, and should be
incorporated into their vertical structures. Their current cost structure decreases their
profit margins and the marginal benefit from their economies of scale.1 These
mechanical deficits will be to the company s advantage should we choose to enter
the market. This type of enterprise is supported by the Russian government through
tax incentives and lower tariffs, as food production and development is essential to
economic growth. They also specialize in more expensive fertilizers, while there are
cheaper components and means of production in the U.S. These weaknesses can be
taken advantage of, while these competitors are focused elsewhere. The Russian
government is encouraging better food production, especially in wheat farming.
Farmers are always looking for ways to beat the constant inflation that they face.
Providing an effective product, at a lower cost with tax breaks can prove profitable.
This product is a utility good, so there are social connotations attached to it. Cultural
differences would arise, when marketing the product to farmers. Marketing should be

and face to face), as theirs is not as technologically developed as the U.S. Straight

The Repeal Of The National Minimum Drinking Age
The repeal of prohibition by the twenty first Amendment in December of 1933
allowed for each state to set its own alcohol consumption age. After the passage of the
twenty sixth Amendment, which lowered the national drinking age to eighteen, thirty
states had lowered the minimum drinking age to eighteen, nineteen, or twenty (
Prohibition ). In 1984, the enactment of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act
prompted states to raise the legal age for purchase of public possession of alcohol to
twenty one or risk losing millions in federal highway funds. By 1988, all fifty states
had raised the minimum drinking age to twenty one. The United States is one, of just
a handful of countries to have a drinking age as high as twenty one. Of the one
hundred and ninety nations, one hundred and fifteen, or sixty one percent, of the
countries have a legal drinking age starting at eighteen or nineteen. In some countries
such as the Central African Republic, the drinking age starts at ten ( Minimum Legal
Drinking Age ). The United States should follow suit with most of the other countries
and lower the drinking age to eighteen.
Dr. Henry Wechsler, a researcher at Harvard School of Public Health, and a leading
expert on college binge drinking states, President Ronald Reagan made the legal
drinking age 21, it was the right decision. The Legal drinking age should remain at
21 for the entire nation (Giamo 1). Although the legal age to purchase alcohol is

The Argentine land component also was not a critical strength. The Argentine troops
on the Falklands, with few exceptions, were conscripts not trained to fight in the
hostile South Atlantic winter. The best forces the Argentine s possessed for this
action were the two battalions of mountain commandos at Comodoro Rivadavia.
However, they were kept at their base throughout the conflict as a hedge against a
possible attack by Chile.[ii] Despite having, in some cases, more firepower and
better equipment than the British forces, the Argentine land forces showed little
initiative or motivation to take the fight to the British, except in rare
circumstances.[iii] It might be tempting to cast the entire Argentine air component
as a Center of Gravity. Indeed, of the six British ships sunk during the conflict, four
were sunk by bomb attack; and of the eleven ships damaged, ten were victims of
bombs and strafing runs from the Argentine s Air Force and Naval Air Forces
Skyhawk, Mirage and Dagger aircraft. This compares to two ships sunk by air
launched Exocets. However, the circumstances that account for these numbers are the
same ones that prevent the entire Argentine air forces from becoming the Argentine
Center of Gravity. The Argentines paid a heavy price in bomb and strafing attacks;
suffering a 41% attrition rate in attack aircraft over the course of the conflict.[iv] All

Analysis Of The Film The Social Network
Essay 4: The Social Network Critique
The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David
Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light
on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the
beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it.
Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic
depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of
informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and
captivating their interest.
The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is
dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a
long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of
the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and
communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on
obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo

Reflection On Math
Math has many different categories within itself and for this project, we had to
observe and solve problems on certain college placement tests. There were many
college placement tests to chooses from but I wanted to choose the college I want to
go to and the test that I wanted to answer. I chose the Monmouth Mathematics
Placement Test and Barton College Practice
Placement Test. For each one, we had to categorize how many questions were in each
type of math whether it was algebra, geometry, or calculus. The Barton test had 64
geometry problems and 16 trigonometry problems while the Monmouth test had 50
problems which were all algebra.
I answered the Barton test because I liked the different variety of algebra problems
it was consisted of. The Monmouth test I will do at a future date because that is
where I wanna go and it will help me practice math and help me pass their
placement test. I was actually surprised about both of their tests because I thought
they were gonna be a lot harder. Most of the problems seemed like Algebra 1 and I
believe I have excelled in that since freshman year. They both had problems on
their tests that were very easy and I did them fast and efficiently. A couple
problems were hard since I haven t had a refresher on that section of trigonometry,
but if I studied, I would have easily gotten them right. I felt confident with these
tests because even if i had only gotten a couple wrong, I would have still easily
passed. Also, it was even easier since

their choice of language, tone and pace, alongside both using literary techniques.
The author of The Sorrow of Sarajevo , Goran Simic uses a tone that differs greatly

family photographs, something that are always personally treasured, to be in a
garbage truck shows that the person that owns them is either gone or has lost worth
in the photograph. This leads back to the main topic of war, and how it had destroyed
the civilians and their families.
In Dulce Et Decorum Est the writer uses sensory language, a literary technique, to
describe the exhaustion of the soldiers. This can be seen when the speaker mentions
the quote, Drunk with fatigue; deaf to even the hoots of disappointed shells that
dropped behind, In that quote, the author uses the sense of hearing, showing that the
soldiers were so tired that they couldn t even hear the shells dropping. This technique,
sensory language, highlights how extreme the fatigue of the soldiers was, enabling
the reader to begin to fathom how much the war life put them
Balance Sheet and Goodwill
Goodwill is an intangible asset, probably the most intangible of all intangible assets,
hard to measure and even more difficult to account for. Goodwill today constitutes a
much larger part of acquisition prices than it did previously, resulting in a much
greater impact on financial statements.
During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In
the earlier days goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a
proprietor of a business with his customers. The present concept is broader in that it
encompasses many more intangible economic factors of a business enterprise and
accountants now consider that goodwill results from the evaluation of the earning
power of a business by investors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable
earnings, frequently opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a
merger. Since no goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous
prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it
makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger, the FASB
decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all
transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed
this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would
cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an
acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written
off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the
goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it).
The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on
Friday July 23, 2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling
of interest method for booking mergers. The method had been popular with
dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a premium without marking
up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future amortization expenses and
depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also passed

Bridging Unit TASK One: Career Plan Career aspirations In the near future I
would like to work in primary education. I originally wanted to go into secondary
education with a qualification in Religion and Theology, however over the course
of my first year in A Levels I realised that I had chosen the wrong subjects and this
could be seen in the results that I got. I still wanted to work with children so I
decided to go into Primary education. I had thought about two different ways into
how I could approach my future ambitions, they are as the following, the first route
was to complete my education go to university and complete a degree in Primary
education, and my second route was to quite education and go into an apprenticeships,

Personally I believe that I am organised, I always carry round a diary, where I note
down important dates and deadlines, and therefore allowing me to manage my time
more efficiently. Another strength that I have is that I know how to operate a
computer and I know how to use a computer effectively, at GCSE I got a B in my
exam in Information and Technology, therefore giving me an advantage compared
to someone who do not know how to use the computer. I also believe that I am
confident, and that I have courage and the ability to speak to new people and
adapt myself to a new environment without feeling uncomfortable. As well as that,
I am also able to work in a group, where I can listen to my members in my group as
well as voice my own opinion. Although I have many strengths, I equally have my
weaknesses. One of my major weaknesses is that my revision techniques aren t as
strong as it needs to be, by this I mean that I have the material which is required for
the revision, however I do not know how to revise effectively. Although I can speak
in public without fear, or voice my opinion without having any difficulties, I am
unstable when it comes to writing, I have the basic grammar but because I only

The marketing and advertising advertisements created by the franchisor leave
franchisee with more time to focus on the daily operating of business. This is a win
win for both parties. It helps increase sales by means of franchise, which, on the
other hand, allows the parent company to collect more fees. (Bernd H. 2008)
Continuous support
It recognizes that the success and profitability of many international chain brands are
inextricably linked to the success of the franchises (Minkler, A., 1990). A highly
qualified group of professional advisers offer continuous support on everything from
human resources to computers and accounting. The field adviser can become a
valuable business partner and a sounding board for ideas.
Guaranteed Territory
In most cases, a franchise parent company would guarantee franchisee a
predetermined territory and assist it in succeeding in that field (Tansev G, 2004).
Territories vary depending on the company which is worked with, but not having to
compete with another franchise location from the same company in territory can help
to generate revenue.
3.3Shortages of Franchise
One major problem for a new business is predicting how much business it might
enjoy, running the risk of either cashflow problems or the difficulties associated with
overtrading. The turnover and profit from any outlet will vary, depending on a wide
range of internal and
An Obligation Of Duty Between A Corporation And An
Individual
Issue[s]:
What conditions create an obligation of duty between a corporation and an
individual, and at what point, does one have the right to hold a corporation negligent?
Rule[s]:
Duty a) Reasonable Person Standard: Members of society have to behave so as to
avoid unreasonable risk or harm to others, b) Reasonable Foreseeability of Harm:

Actual Cause A factor without which the result in question could not happen
(Cornell).
Proximate Cause: An event closest to, or immediately responsible for causing, some
observed result (Cornell).
Duty Application[s]:
The first step in this case is to determine if a duty existed between Citywide and Mr.
Jetson. Established in prior cases of negligence , the courts have the power to
determine the question of duty, through the use of three factors: 1) relationship, 2)
foreseeable harm, and 3) public policy concerns.
While Citywide can argue that no duty existed between the two parties based upon
the fact that Mr. Jetson was not a patron

Family Mediation and Reimbursement of Uninsured Medical Expenses The reimbursement of uninsured medical expenses must be addressed in any child support order. Uninsured medical expenses are the portions of a child s medical costs that insurance does not cover. Rifleman Dodd Essays RIFLEMAN DODD: A NOVEL OF THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN The story in the book talks about an infantry warrior named Private Matthew Dodd and his journey to re unite with his fellow soldiers. The British army was retreating to the lines of Torres Vedras and Dodd was left behind since he separated from his comrades during the retreat in Portugal behind enemy lines. He knew that he had to do one thing, and that was to kill all the Frenchmen. Private Dodd ran through a lot of problems during his journey trying to find his way back to his men. With him doing this, he gave himself the hopes to not only sustain the little amount of food he had but also the strength and energy that he was going to need in case he would end up in the heat of battle. After traveling many miles on foot, Dodd crept through several fields during the day and night time so that he wouldn t run into any Frenchmen. He was seen by Frenchmen, so the French started to fire at Dodd and still missed. Dodd fired back and took out numerous amounts of men. As the day goes by, Dodd starts to feel like he could no longer walk, his next challenge was that he had to go through during his separation was the battle of fatigue. It was really starting to tear him away. Fatigue is a major factor to a person who is in the heat of battle because a person can do so much to keep their strength and move forward without stopping or giving up. It was hard for Rifleman Dodd because he had been starving for days but he still found the durability to look beyond himself and continue to fight to return back to his men. He had a plan of attack to help him sleep at night and continue on with his mission in the morning by using tactics. For example, one night he slept with his pack on his back sitting straight up with his rifle

How To Read Like A Writer By Mike Bunn When studying through a textbook, reading an online blog, or watching a YouTube video, most people simply absorb the raw information that is provided after all, that is what those sources are generally used for. However, behind all that information lies deeper knowledge of a vast ocean of context. This context sets the criteria for effectiveness, a topic discussed in the essay How to Read Like a Writer by Mike Bunn. Bunn states that every text or video publisher has an intended audience that it aims to please, and they achieve those goals through a specific choice of conversation, selected diction, and an understanding of the consequences that could happen after the audience reads or watches their content. The correct choices increases the effectiveness of hooking the attention of their audience. There were several articles that displayed efforts of effectiveness for their target audience, but this essay will discuss one YouTubevideo that stood out amongst the rest. In the YouTube video How Wolves Change Rivers published by Sustainable Human, the narrator argues that the introductions of wolves to Yellowstone National Park not only altered the ecology of animals, but that they also brought upon massive improvements to the luscious environment as well. The author brings upon the conversation by discussing a term used in the food chain called the trophic cascade , a term that describes how the introduction of an organism at that top of the food chain can
  • 6. Father Son Relationships In The Last Of The Mohicans In The Last of the Mohicans , we see many different relationships being portrayed between the characters. We see a father son relationship between Chingachgook and Uncas, and we also see a father daughter relationship between Munro and his daughters. Although the relationships themselves are similar, there are many differences between the two different families. The father son relationship between Chingachgook and Uncas is more of a stern relationship than a loving one. The father son bond that most relationships tend to have is not seen as much between Chingachgook and Uncas. Although the affection between each other is definitely there, it s not as visible as most feelings between them. Their relationship is more of an apprentice and their master. Chingachgook is determined to teach Uncas right from wrong, regardless the situation. Throughout the forest scene, and fight scenes, we see Chingachgook criticizing Uncas. Where praise is due, he gives it. But while this relationship is more of an apprenticeship for Uncas and his father, Munro has a completely different relationship between him and his daughters.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relationship Munro has with his daughters is the typical dad and daughter relationship. Munro loves his daughters, and his daughters love him. He also tries to shield them from anything negative, contrasting to what Chingachgook does with Uncas. Munro treats them like children, much unlike how Chingachgook treats Uncas. We view this in how immature and unprepared Alice is for conflict. We also catch Alice sitting on Munro s knee, much like a young child. This shows much in how the bond with their father is
  • 7. Differences Of Social Class And Inequality Of Class Social class and equality of class has come a long way, from racial struggles all the way to woman suffrage. Although, with these advances there are still differences between social class that bring out a serious sense of inequality. Some of the social class differences could be because of things such as: a family s income, race, and someone s educational level. There are social standards that can limit certain class abilities to accomplish high reaching goals. There are some people that truly believe that if someone is to fall under a labelled category, that they may not be as qualified as another person because of something out of their control. There is a disagreement on what abilities lower class families have against a higher class family. Lower class is defined as the lowest social rank or standing due to low income, lack of skills or education, and the like , while a high class is deemed naturally superior in all qualities. In Angela Locke s article Born Poor and Smart she makes the comment about her mother that says, She did things that poor people aren t supposed to do (338). Whether it s a sick and dying child denied treatment from their own parents because God will help him, or it could be a family slaughtered in their own home because they follow the wrong faith. It all leads back to the wolf in sheep s clothing we know as religion. When Charles Darwin first explained the theory of evolution 143 years ago, the scientists of the time wouldn t accept it as the truth. The amount of evidence that has proven the theory outweighs any evidence of creationism, from palaeontology, genetics and zoology. But sadly in the 21st century, we are the most scientifically advanced race we know of but people still believe in creationism. If 200,000 people can say they are Jedi or followers of the flying spaghetti monster, which is actually a real religion. Any person in this room can create a religion if they want. We can barely call the theory of evolution a theory anymore, the evidence is too abundant because
  • 9. Love In Virgil s The Time Machine The ancient Roman poet, Virgil, once said, Love conquers all. This has been conveyed in many ways, and many people tend to believe it. The Time Machine is a classic novel that will relate to all teens by showing them that love will remain even when everything else is gone. In The Time Machine, the author uses conflict to teach that even when humans have lost all intelligence and strength, lovewill always remain. For example, The Time Traveler shows how the Eloiconvey affection when he says, We passed each other flowers, and she kissed my hands. I did the same to hers. This means that after The Time Traveler saved an Eloi named Weena s life, she grew rather fond of him. As a result, her and The Time Traveler became friends. This evidence proves that even though Weena is lacking in much, she still is able to convey her love and affection toward The Time Traveler. Additionally, The Time Traveler states, Weena had been hugely delighted when I began to carry her, but after a time she desired me to let her down, and ran along by the side of me, occasionally darting off on either hand to pick flowers to stick in my pockets. This evidence proves that a lot of the physical strength and knowledge of the Eloi are gone since it shows that he is having to carry her, and also that she is using his pockets as vases. Although she doesn t understand that his pockets aren t vases, her picking flowers still shows her love and affection for The Time Traveler. Clearly, the

Berkeley attempted to improve conditions by introducing other industries and building new towns in several places. Unfortunately, the towns could not be maintained and other attempts only resulted in dissatisfaction and increased taxes. Taxes were also increased due to a need for defense against the Dutch and the Indians. The rising price of English manufactured goods and the increasingly limited English market created more problems for the Virginians. From the terrifying tales of Native American attacks, Virginians learned to fear the Native Americans. They pleaded to the governor for protection from the Native Americans, but Berkeley refused to listen to their tales of Indians committing murders and thieving. It seemed to be that the Indians were the ones receiving protection from Berkeley. The Governor and his grandees were controlling the Indian beaver and otter fur trades, so he didn t want to lose the profit he was making off of his business of trade with the Indians. Many white indentured servants were not happy with the Indians who had ownership rights of land, when they needed to find land to buy when their time serving was completed. • 14. Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and questionwho wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill during World War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history

The tiers are: Economic, Legal and Social, Economic being the narrowest and Social being the broadest. Analysis will be carried out to determine whether there is any breach of these responsibility. Economic Responsibility At this level, the major responsibility that GVM owes is to GVFN and to its own sustainability. Going ahead with this project is in the interest of GVM as they gain profits (Egoism) and as mentioned above it s an act that s also in the interest of the majority of GVFN (Act Utilitarianism). Is it physical appearance, personality or mentality? These three factors separate each individual from one another and it is what makes them different. Physical appearance, personality and mentality are made up from the same building blocks which are known as DNA sequences. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), is a self replicating material that is found throughout every living organism. It s a large macromolecule that transforms characteristics into life. DNA is made up two strands that run in opposite directions therefore they are known to be antiparallel. Commonly it is thought that monolingualism is the most usual linguistic behaviour but language studies disprove this belief showing that all speech communities and individuals hold a rich linguistic repertoire which may include two or more distinct languages, different varieties of the same languageand a wide range of registers, styles, social codes etc. The concept of linguistic repertoire is not to be intended as a mere sum of linguistic codes since it also concerns the way such codes interact with one another, their hierarchy and the rules running their use. In order to clear up the logic underlying the relations emerging from the steady contact among languages sociolinguistics introduced concepts such as diglossia code switching, bilingualism, dilalia etc. In the following essay the focus will essentially be on the difference between the concepts of diglossia and code switching alongside with the description of some examples supported by an attempt to identify the non linguistic factors which affect speakers linguistic choices. • 31. Edgar Allan Poe s A Predicament Major Question: In A Predicament, why is Poe s depiction of Zenobia and Pompey so particularly disparaging? How does this relate to his vocal opinions on female sensationalist authors and the literary tactics of abolitionist movement? Thesis Statement: The silencing and degradation of the characters within Edgar Allan Poe s A Predicament are produced from the shifting popularity of literary genres in America resulting in the fear of losing his complete authority over both white women and black men. The mid 19th century was marked by an increase in popularity of sentimentalism and sensationalism in the American literary market. This trend reflected the threatening of Southern society and its hierarchy that placed white men noticeably above white women and slaves. This provoked anxiety for Poe, which resulted in his need to both demean and silence these groups within his short story, A Predicament. The shifting trends in American literature from this period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been argued that this relationship can be seen throughout Poe s work. For slaves, Poe attempted to counter abolitionist claims in this particular piece by reinforcing the Sambo trope. Pompey was described in dehumanized and grotesque language but did not actually meet any real pain or horror like his mistress. With strong parallels to antebellum slavery, Poe is able to both belittle black men through willing submission while also promote slavery through Pompey s weak relationship with Zenobia. Furthermore, Poe s animosity towards independent women who refuse to submit to men is immensely apparent within much of his writings. The narrator s eventual demise reinforces the notion that women, even those who are also writers, must submit to men in silence. For Poe, submission is required from both of these groups, so if they refuse to comply, they must be traumatically

Banquo s ghost appeared at a dinner Macbeth was having after Banquo got murdered and Banquo s ghost distracted Macbeth which ended of party. The visions and hallucinations were when Macbeth saw the dagger and when he heard something tell him that sleep was dead meaning he would have sleepless days. William Shakespeare made the story more supernatural than natural by using a ghost, witches, visions, and hallucinations and to prove Macbeth s inevitable destiny. William Shakespeare made the story more supernatural by using witches. Research Paper On Shared Intention Gilbert s account of shared intention In Gilbert s (2009) paper, Shared Intention and Personal Intentions, she had given a clear statement about shared intention that it is an action acted by agents together as a body in the future plans. The first step to share intention is to have an agreement between agents. They usually shared their intention literally and expressed by a shared intention sentences of form We intend to do A , We are going to do A , and so on. They may also use the sentences of form like We intend that... to show their shared intention on thought. Under this criterion , the concurrence of all agents is required to change or rescind the shared intention, or to release an agent from participating in the action, without special understanding backgrounds (Gilbert, 2009). We can use Liam and Gary case to illustrate this criterion more. If Gary suddenly do not want to go to supermarket, instead, he want to go to bank on their way to supermarket, Gary could not leave unless Liam agree with it. This is because Gary had an agreement with Liam that they would go to supermarket together this afternoon. If Gary quit the action, he would betray their agreement and broke their shared intention. On the other hand, however, if Gary gives an understanding background to Liam in the first place, that is Gary told Liam that he may go to bank this afternoon when they are achieving the agreement, Gary can feel free to go without agreed by Liam. Certainly, one can also make their own decision not to do according to the shared intention, but it doesn t mean that they had changed or rescind or quit from the shared intention (Gilbert,

However, they were kept at their base throughout the conflict as a hedge against a possible attack by Chile.[ii] Despite having, in some cases, more firepower and better equipment than the British forces, the Argentine land forces showed little initiative or motivation to take the fight to the British, except in rare circumstances.[iii] It might be tempting to cast the entire Argentine air component as a Center of Gravity. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of acquisition prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements. During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In the earlier days goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a proprietor of a business with his customers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings, frequently opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger, the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it). The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23, 2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a premium without marking up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future amortization expenses and depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also passed Financial Accounting Statement 142 a closely related standard
