Symbolism Of Modernization In Kokoro
Modernization Symbolized in Kokoro
By James Schradle for IAH 204 In this modern era the gulf between modernized
nations and nations who are not grows constantly, and if a country hopes to bridge the
growing gap they must advance quickly. As with any other growth, growing pains are
routine. Among others is the pain of the existence of generations whose world is
changed completely over the course of a lifetime. In few places is this effect starker
than in Japan s modern history, a country whose traditional ideals had to find a way to
adapt modern westernized ideals to a historically traditional nation in a small amount of
time. This era, the Meiji Restoration, put Japan through their growing pains and pushed
the country to compete on the global level. Natsume Soseki offers a character whose
relationships in the novel Kokoro are analogous to the progression and end of this
Meiji era and how it effected the individual and their perceptions of change. Sensei is a
character whose life and relationships offer a full range of understanding of the
difficulties caused by the changing times. Though it is not apparent exactly when he
was born, it s clear that it was between the dawn modern and the end of pre modern
Japan. This era was exceedingly traditional, a time in Japan s history when cities were not
tall and gray with streetcars stretching through them. A time when traditional social
patterns prevailed and Confucian values still lingered. This can be seen in a quote
Police Misconduct Research Paper
Abstract
Police misconduct and corruption are abuses of police authority. Sometimes used
interchangeably, the terms refer to a wide range of procedural, criminal, and civil
violations. Misconduct is the broadest category. Misconduct is procedural when it refers
to police who violate police departments rules and regulations; criminal when it refers to
police who violate state and federal laws; unconstitutional when it refers to police who
violate a citizen s civil rights; or any combination thereof. Common forms of misconduct
are excessive use of physical or deadly force, discriminatory arrest, physical or verbal
harassment, and selective enforcement of the law.

Unknown to Slager a witness had recorded the incident and it went against the officer s
claim that Scott reached for his gun which made him shoot in self defense. It should be
noted that there is a gap between Slager initially stopping Scott and when the witness
starts to record. Unlike many other police involved shootings, Officer Slager was
charged with murder. His first trial ended in a
More Than A Bag Of Tricks
More than a Bag of Tricks: Using Creative Methodologies in Environmental Adult and
Community Education explores alternate and to some educational institutions,
unorthodox methods of educating using the art based activities that are interactive. This
method focuses on method versus content. By using the art based activities, the educator
encourages interaction with active learning, participation, uses the senses and skills used
for learning, uses the learners life experiences, and at the end reflects on the whole
process. The author, Dr. Jose Roberto Guevara discusses in detail these key elements to
this learning methodologywhich seems to establish that art based activities are viable for
adult students and community education, making learning more relevant and
meaningful. There were several strengths in this article. It was very evident with the
amount of international research that was prepared. First, the author believes and cites
from several sources that one the strengths of these art based activities are that it
provides the opportunity for adults to share their feelings and encourage greater
interaction. By allowing this, it would create and tailor new ways of understanding the
material to be discussed. This seems very logical as interaction is a key element to
learning at all levels of education.
Upon reflection the author was able to identify several principles that helped them move
from limits of art based activities to a broader understanding using create
Monkey King Research Paper
All along, people have discussed monsters no mater they are from the East or the West,
people are always curious about which faction is more powerful. If there must have a
battle between Hulk and the Monkey King, for this epic battle, I believe the Monkey
King will beat Hulk. A monster s combat capability is divided into five parts: strength,
speed, scalability and intelligence. It is obvious that, the better fighting ability, the greater
the possibility of winning for the monster. Comparison of the overall strength between
Hulkand the monkey king, Hulk is very strong that he has the best physical strength and
resistance of Marvel University, comparing with the monkey king, even though the
Monkey King is also a strong monster but he is not as mighty as Hulk. However, the
Monkey King is recognized as the smartest monster in the East who has an incredible

And he also got an amazing self healing ability and resistance to mind control which
means that the Monkey King cannot defeat Hulk by direct combat or try to control his
mind. The fighting strategy for the monkey king is trying to make a quick battle to
force Hulk to make a quick decision, since Hulk will getting more powerful when he is
angry, it is obviously that long time fighting is beneficial for Hulk. Therefore, according
to this analysis, the Monkey King can beat Hulk in short battle but they might be no clear

The Pros And Cons Of Natural Hair Braiding
Braiding without a license or any kind of permit is becoming more and more
prominent in the US. This braiding is most commonly referred to as natural hair
braiding, this is a type of African braiding.Since African style braiding does not use dyes
or chemicals, this causes some people to believe that it is reasonable to braidwithout a
license. There are many reasons that natural hair braider is not the best option, some
examples of these things are that they can have unsafe salon conditions and environment,
there are also other people that get their license and put the time and effort in to
preceding this carer, and finally so these braiders are kept safe.
When someone goes and has, their hair done they want it to look good. There are some
really good braiders out there who were taught how to braid in a very young age and
have been braiding for years. Since they ve been braiding for years then they should be
good and know how to properly braid but sometimes people don t know all the different
things they need to know.Things that a braider should know are how to spot contagious
and communicable diseases, what alopecia looks like and how they can braid the hair
where its no to taunt against the head.
Alopecia is a type of baldness, most commonly found on the scalp. Alopecia can make
the scalp sensitive. These sensitivities can have side effects to braiding that is to tight,
some are they lose more hair or they may develop skin irritation if a braid is pulled to
tight.These
Greek Influence On Mycenaean Culture
The country I choose to research is Greece (known as Hellas or Ellada in Greek). It is
in southeastern Europe. I choose this country because I ve always thought that it d be a
great place to visit and explore. I also didn t know much about the country before I did
the research.
The first thing that I researched was, the development of Greek civilization. The first
Greeks were the Minoans and the Mycenaeans. They were the first to populate Greece.
Since there wasn t much written or physical evidence of their civilization not much is
know about them. But they do know that the Minoans occupied the island of Crete and
the Mycenaeans were a group of people who migrated from India. They both conquered
territory until they ran into one another. (ushistory.org) That s when the Mycenaeans
wiped out the Minoans. Soon after the Mycenaeans were wiped out as well. Greece then

The official language of Greece is Standard Modern Greek. However, the Greek language
is one of the oldest attested Indo European languages, it s earliest written from dating to
the 15th Century BCE. (Loring Danforth, 2015) Standard Modern Greek is a
combination of two historical forms: one that is widely spoken (Demotic) and one that
was written, that appeared in government documents and newspapers (Katharevusa).
There are many minority languages spoken in Greece including Turkish, Macedonian,
and Albanian just to name a few. Religion in Greece is divided into areas throughout the
country. Most of Greece belongs to the Church of Greece. The Church of Greece is
ecclesiastically independent and headed by 12 metropolitans. The non Orthodox sector is
composed of Muslims. Athens is where the Roman and Greek Catholics preside. While
the rest are on the western islands that are currently under Italian rule. Excluding the
supporters of Protestantism and Judaism. The Jewish population was practically wiped

The -for and Against Argument with Regards to Innate and...
Q.1 In your own words, detail the for and against argument with regards to innate and
learned behaviour. Feel free to include your own opinion, but be sure to justify it. Try to
include an equal amount of information for the both sides. Use at least 500 words for
your answer. For many years psychologists have been researching behaviour patterns
from birth. This is where the Nature vs Nurture debate begins. Nativists believe that
humans are born with various skills needed to survive, where as Empircist believe that
humans acquire all or almost of all their behavioural traits from nurture . Some
behaviours are innate, unlearned and instinctive. From the moment we are born there are
instinctive motions that we do. An example of this... Show more content on

We were both encouraged to breast feed and having had daughters only a few months
apart we shared the experience for a short period of time. My sister struggled, with my
niece unable to latch onto her for several weeks. Feeding time soon became a very
traumatic experience for both parties, however my daughter and I had a completely
different experience. From the first feed we had success, it continued that way for
many months. Later my sister learnt that her daughter had had colic , which is a
condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or displays symptoms of distress
frequently and for extended periods of time, without any discernible cause. With this
information in mind, it left me wondering whether it in fact took my niece a longer
period of time to learn how to breast feed, or if the natural motion was there but her
colic condition prevented this from happening. Nurture, historically was referred to as
the care given to children by their parents, with a mothers role being of particular
importance. This term is now regarded as any environmental factor including external
family, their peers, as well as extending influences such as media. BINNS (1965)
demonstrated this experimentally. He studied babies less than 5 days old and found clear
differences in a babies reactions to being suddenly disturbed. [ref1] (Ahrens 1954), stated

Breaking Rules or Creating Hero Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone by
J.K.Rowling shows the world of magic and wizardry. The main character Harry Potter
is a boy who grows up in his uncle and aunt Dursleys house. Harry s childhood was not
so perfect. The Dursleys do not like him very well, and they treat Harry more like a
servant than a family member. Fortunately, Harry is not a normal boy. His parents are
wizards killed by Voldemort. Voldemort is a fallen wizard, he kills everyone who is
against him but Harry. Harry survives under Voldemort s attacks which makes him

Harry can feel the presence of his father. Professor McGonagall is guider of Harry:
Potter, this is Oliver Wood. Wood I ve found you a Seeker! Wood s expression changed
from puzzlement to delight. Are you serious, Professor? Absolutely, said Professor
McGonagall crisply. The boy s a natural. I ve never seen anything like it. (120). When
Professor McGonagall said she found a new seeker, it can be easily imagine how
excitedshe is. McGonagall must know that a first year is not allowed to fly a
broomstick. But she ignores the rule and sees the talent of Harry. After Harry joins the
team and gets first win in the Quiddtich game helping to Harry builds his own
confidence. It is very important to Harry because his childhood is not very perfect.
Pressures from the Dursleys make Harry very unconfident. He is afraid to against
bullying from his family members. If McGonagall punish him when Harry against
Malfoy s bully, would make Harry feels his action is not correct. He would be afraid to
fight back the wrong things. Just like Nevill to escape from Malfoy s bullying. The
support from McGonagall is not less than the support from Dumbledore. McGonagall is
the one who builds Harry s characters. In the troll instance, Quirrel , who is the carrier
of Voldemort sets the troll free at Hallowing night. Everyone panics and Dumbledore ask
prefects to lead students back to the dormitories. At this time, Harry realizes
Three Ways People Respond To Crisis
How do people respond to crisis? There are many different ways people respond to
crisis. We will examine three ways people respond to crisis: people hide from it,
people ignore it, and people take action and stay calm. We will examine these three
things with the help of the following passages: The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar
Allan Poe; Scurvy at Sea from making History with Vitamin C by Penny Le Couteur
and Jay Burreson. And finally Heroics Behind the Miracle on the Hudson written by
Liana Stanley from The New American . So, once again we will see three ways people
respond to crisis: people hide from it, they ignore it, and some people take action and
stay calm. People hide from crisis. What is exactly hiding from crisis, and... Show more

Let s look at an example of this. In the magazine article from The New American titled
Heroics Behind the Miracle on the Hudson by Liana Stanley said The Captain
remained calm and in control after the landing. As the occupants were escaping the
sinking plane onto the wings and life rafts, Sullenberger retrieved the planes manifest,
to be used to account for all the passengers. As we can see Captain Sullenberger took
action, as the plane went down thanks to geese clogging the engines, he landed the
plane on the Hudson River. Then he got everyone out of the plane before himself. He
then grabbed the manifest which had all of the passenger s names and inspected the
whole plane twice, to make sure no one was inside. Once they got off the wings of the
plane and onto a boat he called role of all of the passengers. Captain Sullenberger was
the last off of the plane, and he is a true hero. He managed everything responsively and
calm. Finally, everyone reacts to crisis differently. Some people act scared and hide
like price Prospero and his guests in the blue room. Others ignore it like some sailors.
And very few act brave and calm like Captain Sullenberger did when he landed a plane
on the Hudson River. Everyone can react differently in
The Faerie Queene By Edmund Spenser Analysis
This week s lecture is on The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. This lecture focuses
on Edmund Spenser s life, the sources and influences that created Book I of The Faerie
Queene , themes, devices, and meaning, purpose of Book I, and The Legend of the
Knight of the Red Cross . Edmund Spenserwas born in 1552 to a modest family of
modest means with a similar background such as Marlowe and Shakespeare. Spenser
was a well educated man much like Marlowe. Spenser spent his first years of education
at the Merchant Taylors School before attending university. Edmund Spenser would go
on to receive a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts from Cambridge University.
After university, Spenser would begin a career as a minor civil servant where he was
a personal secretary to men of power and influence. His work would lead him to a few
minor colonial government posts in Ireland. Afterwards, Edmund Spenser was
bestowed a castle and 3,000 acres of land in Munster, Ireland. However, the castle was
burned down into a rebel uprising. This was due to Spenser being disrespectful of the
Irish and their religion. Edmund Spenser would then go on to be a poet. He was
creative and adventurous when it came to his work. His greatest works are The
Shepheardes Calendar and The Faerie Queene. Spenser became a great influence to
several poets such as Milton and other romantics. In the end, Edmund Spenser became
one of the greatest English poets of his time.
The Faerie Queene is similar to works of Beowulf because of its Anglo Saxon epics.
Also, Book I has a hint of classical and renaissance adventures. The Faerie Queene is a
perfect combination of themes and motifs that was already introduced in other
assignments. This makes Spenser s The Faerie Queene an epic poem. An epic poem is
described as a long narrative in elevated style while presenting characters of high
positions in adventures thus forming an organic whole through their relation to a central
heroic figure and their development of events that play an important part to the history
of a nation or race. The common characteristics of the main character is that the hero is
played by a person of importance such who would have a historical or legendary
significance. The
Serebrier 9th Symphony
A bit close to a decade ago, I confessed to a friend and fellow reviewer, Julian Grant,
who graced these Amazon pages with his own informative and thought provoking
reviews I took the pleasure in reading, of how dissatisfied I was in music programmes
particularly in America s concert halls. I was ranting about how too little we were
exposed to the great composers like Glazunov, Atterberg, Nielsen, Popov, Myaskovsky,
and others and the need to rectify that in part by not overplaying the familiar
Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Beethoven, et al. in these halls. But Julian Grant put the matter
into perspective in reminding me that repeated listening is a complex ingredient in music
appreciation. It is indeed amazing, now that I am thinking about it, of how... Show more

It is indeed a despondent, anguish work, written (in 1910 originally for piano) at the
time in Russian history where violence and uncertainties abounded. Its bleak language is
very much akin to that of his Two Prelude Improvisations (1918) for pianoforte where
conditions were even more precarious. Truth to tell, I cannot think of a more striking,
penetrating orchestral realization of the work s profound sense of melancholy and
dreariness than Gavriil Yudin s. And Serebrier brings these attributes movingly, with the
menacing flutes, prominent in the middle allegro moderato section, that are perfectly
caught. Come to think of it, it would ve been interesting if Glazunov s dramatic overture
The Song of Destiny is included here, for it too shows the composer s changing musical
persona under the conditions he was in.
But be that as it may, this album, extremely well recorded and reverberant, caps what is
now the most absorbing, revelatory, thought provoking, satisfyingly searching Glazunov
symphony cycle to date (and imagine that admirable sense of preparation and
knowledge of these symphonies in the performances of them that took place in just
four days June 2 5, 2009). And while some will take issue with Serebrier s essay where
he uses the Bernstein/Mahler series as an example of how much of a revelation a series
like this is (or how much it can be), I for one will not pose an
How Is Macbeth A Tragic Hero
Throughout the story Macbeth could show a true example of a tragic hero in William
Shakespeare s story but i do not believe he is. To understand why Macbeth could be
shown as a tragic hero in shakespeare s work it s important to know what exactly a
tragic hero is. A tragic hero is someone who shows greatness and royalty. All together
someone who is good but fails in some way due to not being as perfect as they thought.
From messing up and causing a big failure in their position of loyalty and leadership.
Considering the attributes to be labeled as such a tragic heroi do believe Macbeth could be
but truly isn t a tragic hero in the shakespeare s work.
On the contrary, one might say that Macbeth is technically a tragic hero throughout the
play because he meets all the standards and attributes that goes into being a tragic hero.
One might point out that he comes from a noble background. Some might say he showed
greatness and true loyalty and leadership for his people. They might consider that since
he showed greatness and showed tragic by failing in some way that he meets the
standards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when the messenger told the king that Doubtful is stood (Act 1, Scene 2,
p.5) with the battle. I would consider this to not be great leadership since he did not
have the situation and what was going on completely under control from the start. A
major reason I don t believe Macbeth isn t fair or the best fit for the position would
come from when he murdered Duncan and didn t get punished for it, he got promoted
instead. Not only that but I think he isn t the best man suited for the position because i
believe someone else in the play would be
Juarez Essay
Juarez
The movie Juarez, starring Paul Muni, Bette Davis, Brian Aherne and Claude Rains, has
the perfect story line. There s action, love, violence and heartbreak, but most importantly,
it brings attention to a piece of history that is rarely recognized: monarchs in Mexico.
Louis Napoleon III of France, played by Claude Rains, saw the American Civil War as
an opportunity to advance the French government. Louis wanted to establish French
influence in Mexico, which he knew was against the Monroe Doctrine. He took
advantage of the fact that America was in a weak state due to the war, and could
therefore not intervene as per the Monroe Doctrine. In the film, he discusses with his

Although Maximilian had many supporters, it was not enough to fight against the
Mexican Republicans and Benito Juarez. On several occasions in the movie,
Maximilian was asked to step down from his position as emperor and allow Mexico to
go back to its former democracy. Juarez sent messengers as well as letters, and the
final letter he sent mentioned a threat of Maximilian s blood spilling if he did not
oblige. Maximilian would not step down and insisted he was doing what he was sent
there to do. As the Civil War in the United States ended, the United States was finally
able to help Mexico fight against the French. This led to a weakening of the French
presence in Mexico and eventually Napoleon decided to pull out his troops. Napoleon
was very persistent in his efforts of getting Maximilian to leave Mexico, and almost
succeeded, but not before Carlotta could go back to France and beg him to change his
mind, and instead support the monarchy. Napoleon would not budge on his decision
and Maximilian gave in and wrote his letter of abdication. When Maximilian read his
letter to his soldiers, they were extremely upset and General Mejia, who was an Indian
and never showed emotion, cried. Colonel Lopez protested Maximilian s abdication
and told him that if he left, it was surely a death sentence for all of them. Maximilian
could not allow the men who had loved and supported him, to die for him after he had

Creating Federal Express
In 1965, Yale University undergraduate Frederick W. Smith wrote a term paper about the
passenger route systems used by most airfreight shippers. Mr. Smith viewed them as
economically inadequate. Smith s paper focused on the need for shippers to have a
system designed specifically for airfreight that could accommodate time sensitive
shipments such as medicines, computer parts and electronics. After spending a short
period in the military, Smith purchased controlling interest in Arkansas Aviation Sales
located in Little Rock, AR in August 1971. In operating this firm, Smith realized the
tremendous difficulty in getting packages and other airfreight delivered within one to

McDonald s and Burger King both offer kids meals, but McDonald s however has
more appealing options. These options range from food and drink items, to the
packaging they come in. Many times McDonald s relates their toys to the latest big
movie or a popular television show (DePietro, 2010). This could vary depending on
the restaurants location. Burger King has 11,100 locations worldwide where
McDonald s has over 30,000 locations (Brantley, 2007). Because there are so many
Burger King s and McDonald s around the world, the toys are sure to vary depending
on the most popular movie and television show out in that country. Although there is
one thing that really separates these two kids meals from each other, and that s the
price. A Burger King Kids meal can cost as high as $5.00 depending on your location.
Whereas the McDonald s happy meal will cost you up to $3.00. Cost is really one of
the biggest differences between these two franchises. Aside from both places offering
the dollar menu, their overall pricing on other items, is very different. A McDonald s
value meal can cost up to $4.00, whereas Burger King s value meals can cost up to
$6.00! Saving a few bucks by going to McDonald s sounds a lot better than spending
unnecessary amounts of money at Burger King. Just by looking at the sales difference
between the two, you can see that people would agree. In 2009, Burger King s profit
dropped 10% in its second quarter, while McDonald s sales grew a solid

What were your first impressions of the main characters?
James Watson: An American biologist man who has a research about the DNA. For
me, James Watson at first was a bit weird guy because of the way he stared and looked at
people around him. He is a mysterious guy and a bit naughty to the ladies he has seen. As
one of the character said, he is the boy wonderer . He is also a very eager to know the
research and very observant.

also eager to know what is in DNA and the relationship of it with the double helix.

What were your later impressions of the main characters?
James Watson: Watson has the wit and capabilities to do the research he is doing. Once
he wants to do something, he wishes and grants to finish the research heartily. He is one
of the awardees of the Noble Prize.
Francis Crick: Similar with Watson, Crick is also eager to finish the study as soon as
possible. He is also one of the awardees of the Noble Prize.
Rosalind Franklin: She wanted to do the research on her own. She studies alone and
makes it well. She also contributed to the discovering of the double helix but kept the
study herself.
Maurice Wilkins: He is one of the awardees of the Noble Prize. And he also contributed
his previous researches to Watson and Crick.
Why this movie is called Race for the Double Helix ? Do you think scientific research
should be a race? Why? Why not? In my opinion on why was the movie called Race
for the Double Helix , because at the middle of the presentation, although Franklin and
Wilkins find it difficult to work together, the possibility of their collaboration heats up
the race to discovery, as Watson and Crick see it. Watson and Crick knew that there
was someone who is also doing the discovering for the Double Helix, the American

Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled
comprehending towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a
boy named Pi Patel that ends up stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life
of Pi a major key thematic statement that Yann Martelmakes during Pi s journey is that
just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t mean that people cannot overcome or
complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious development, and the
banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message.
First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual
setting in general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an
acidic island with a tiger, but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets
Pi running into an acidic island made of no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to
the investigators, they have a really hard time believing Pi. Pi had been through a lot
during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so traumatized.
He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. There right underneath his bed
sheet. The men seeing these actions done by Pi, confuses them and that even leads to
them not thinking that the story he is telling is true. As they continue to listen to Pi he
adds things like how he wasn t the first human on this carnivorous island. Pi continues on
by explaining how there
How Customization And Service Quality
Customization and service quality are both important aspects for any successful
restaurant. These components have many different qualities that can ultimately be very
beneficial for businesses or quite the contrary. By executing these qualities in a particular
restaurant setting it is likely that the given company will prosper. For my application
paper I will focus in on how customization and servicequality can be improved
specifically at Charley G s Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana. Charley G s Restaurant
takes pride in having exceptional service. The staff is very accommodating to
customers and do they do their best to provide phenomenal service. The restaurant is
equipped with Point of Sales system which helps waiters quickly and efficiently send
orders out to the kitchen which is very beneficial when it comes down to customizing
particular orders. In fact, both the line cook and the saucier chef for the restaurant were
both definitely in favor of using the technology. Jordan Causey, a line cook for Charley
G s, commented You can type in specifically what each customerwants. It speeds up the
ordering process tremendously because the orders are immediately sent to our kitchen
staff (Causey). (See exhibit 1) Because the kitchen gets the orders in so quickly, it
accelerates the entire cooking and service process immensely. Although we have come to
the conclusion that the POS system is definitely an advantage to Charley G s, it also has
one downfall, personal errors
Causes Of Bipolar Disorders
In this world, there are many kinds of illness and diseases that affect our body in
different ways. Some illness or diseases can kill us while other ones can be treated.
For example, Bipolar Disorder is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in moods
such as energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day to day tasks. Bipolar is
also known as manic depression . Bipolar disorder has affected about 5.7 million
people in the United States in any giving year, month, week, day and even time.
Bipolar disorder can be affected in both men and women. Affecting any kind of human
being will have the cycle of Bipolar Disorder that can last days, weeks and even months.

For example, at the age of 27, Bennett spoke to her doctor about some depressive mood
issues she was experiencing, for which the doctor prescribed antidepressants. At that
point in time, she was feeling isolated, as she was living in British Columbia while her
family was living in Ontario California. To make herself feel better, she was self
medicating by smoking marijuana, staying up late and generally not taking good care
of herself. Bennett s behavior was becoming increasingly erratic, and her roommates
were really concerned. They called her family to let them know what was going on.
So her sister and mother came to visit her in British Columbia they were hoping to
bring her back to Toronto to see if they could get her some help. Because of Bennett s
manic episode, she had convinced herself that the people coming to visit her were not
her family, but clones of them. She was so convinced, she asked a friend to come with
her to the restaurant where they were meeting and bring a video camera to tape it. She
thought that she could use the tape as evidence that someone had cloned her sister and
mother and could take that to the authorities. This concludes that by not having her
family she felt the need to do drug and might though that her family did not even care
for her because she was some where else in a

Goodman Brown Historical References
In Young Goodman Brown , Hawthorne uses historical references as a back drop for
the story. Hawthorne s family was directly linked to the Salem witch trials. A relative
of his was a witch trail judge His personal experience with the time frame has
influenced his work greatly. ( Hawthorne, Nathaniel (1804 1864). 363). He was raised
in Salem Massachusetts is known for its era called the Witch Trails. During the Witch
Trials, Americans struggled with their own duality between good and evil much like the
character Goodman Brown. The character of Goodman Brown is a puritan living in
Salem Massachusetts with his wife of three months, named Faith. Brown s struggle to
discover his own path leads him on a journey of horror. Where he is forced to choose to

His respect for his elders allows Brown to accept conversing and following an old man
he meets on his path. Hawthorn hints that this old man has a supernatural quality by
stating he was able to get from Boston to the wood in Salem in fifteen minutes, and
having his walking stick wriggle and writhe like a snake. Goodman suspect that this
man is the devil but continues to go with him deeper into the woods. Hawthorn
implies that this old man is really a reflection of Brown, describing him as having the
same rank of life as Goodman Brown...simply clad as the younger, and simple in
manner too (Hawthorne 2). Once Brown sees his community member in a secret
meeting, at night and in the woods, with that looks like an alter he begins to deeply
question his faith. The concept of Faith plays an integral role in the everyday life of the
puritan settlers. And Goodman Brown aptly named wife Faith represents that for him.
Their everyday life, as a puritan, is filled with fear and the insistence to refrain from any
temptation. Despite the risk of such a journey with all its unforeseen evils Brown leaves

The Roles Of Women In The Roaring 20 s
Women in the Roaring 20 s Women s fashion was a social controversy in the 1920 s. This
controversy was influenced by women s clothing, swimwear, hairstyles, makeup, and
attitude alone. This attire and new found character traits added a certain attitude and
confidence to these women, starting what would eventually be remembered as a
revolution.
Before the 1920 s, women s attire was considered fairly modern. Women would have
worn clothing with more of a silhouette than clothing that was loose and flowy. The
length of their dresses never revealed more of their leg than just their ankle. Women
received bad reputations when showing their knees or even their calfs. Women in the
1920 s also had a different ideal figure than most women do today. The body types
women wanted to achieve also transformed into a more feminine look. This look
consisted of low bust lines, higher hems lines, and showing off more curves than ever
before. These women became unapologetically fearless. However, none of these changes
happened over night. It took a strong influence from something or someone in order
acquire the changes that all women wanted to have. The only problem was that
Telecommuting Suggestion Report
The first course of action this tech firm should take is to create a productivity report to
analyze the current state of the company s workforce. It was mentioned that the
organization already has fifty employees telecommuting. However, the head executives
have yet to make a formalized plan. This was a large oversight that could have potentially
caused a lot of tension between the two groups of employees. Although guidelines should
have been created before telecommutingbegan, it will help show any differences between
the two groups in the productivity report. A suggestion for how the report should be
created and implemented would be to weigh whatever task is most important for each job
and compare the performance between onsite and telecommuting staff members. Having
this information will help determine if the company should even allowing working off
site all together.
Unfortunately, the prompt did not specify how well telecommuting had been working
for the firm before asking for suggestions. Hypothetically we will say that the
percentage of productivity for off site workers was equally as high as on site. A company
would have a difficult time if everyone telecommutes, however, it would be wise to
allow some flexibility in work schedules. The tech firm could include temporary off site
work as well. For example, allowing an employee with a cold to work at home or if a
deadline is pressing and a staff member works better at home. If the company executives
decide to allow a
The Problem Of Teen Drinking
Every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash. A
dangerous issue facing society today is the problem of teen drinking and driving.
Currently an approximate of 10,076 people die in drunk driving crashes per year. If
positive progress to ceasing this act does not happen, teens will continue to drink and
drive putting everybody on the road at risk. Teens who drink and drive put everyone on
the road at risk, causing serious crashes that could be preventable. Background of the

Fake IDs are often very effective because they are not always taken seriously in the
bouncer world. There are approximately more fake IDs than real that are used on
college campuses. A Her Campus survey found that 54.5% of readers surveyed had or
currently have a fake ID (Collins, 2012, p. 2). The people guarding the doors at clubs
and bars aren t always equipped to spot fake IDs. In an interview, FIRST NAME
Shubaly, a New York bouncer, quoted I never received any formal how to spot a fake
ID training (Goldberg, 2009, p. 5). The rate that underaged people are getting into
clubs factors into how easy it is for teens to get alcohol, which only increases the risk
of a teen to get behind the wheel while under the influence, even if they were not
planning on drinking that night. Teens who take on the responsibility of being a
designated driver are sometimes still pressured into drinking. Teens who get peer
pressured into drinking when they know they had a responsibility to drive later often
still do. Some teens decide to drink a little bit at parties so it looks like they are trying
to get drunk to other teens around them in order to look or feel cool. While 71% of
teens have tried alcohol by the end of high school, far fewer drink to get drunk (Barker,
2013, p. 6). When a teen gives into peer pressure or takes just one sip, they do not
always know what they are getting themselves into. Most kids wildly overestimate the

How Did Hippocrates Advance The Modern Medicine
Today I ll be talking about How Medicine Became Better. Which brings us to our word
of the day, which is medicine. Today my hook is how did Hippocrates advance the
modern medicine? Three ways that Hippocrates changed the modern medicine are by
doing an observation, conducting an experiment, and recording the data.
First I ll talk to you about the the way Hippocrates did an observation on the medicine he
found. In Source 1 paragraph 2 it states that He discussed medical subjects freely and
without an air of mystery, and he was courageous enough to admit his limitations and his
failures. This means that Hippocrates use one of the Steps in the Scientific Method Make

The Structure Of Roller Coasters
The structure of roller coasters present many factors in physics and in engineering,
engineers must contain an abundance of knowledge and research in order to assure the
safety and the structure as a whole. AAPT needs entries at their annual roller coaster
competition that include the use of only gravity to get from the beginning to the end of
the track, so a structure will be built to present overall knowledge on kinetic and potential
energy, as well as calculations. Relating to other fields, this project requires knowledge
on kinetic and potential energy, especially while transitioning from one stage to the next
while keeping the total mechanical energy the same at all points (Annenberg, 2014).
The overall structure will be tested on multiple obstacles including a loop, funnel,
humps, zig zags, and possibly a corkscrew. Not only will it be tested on these stages,
but its safety and design should also be expected to receive an evaluation. The overall
purpose of this project is to build and test a roller coaster that is built based off of
knowledge and research while ensuring the fun and excitement while making sure the
riders reach the end of the ride. Roller coasters indeed trade height for velocity and
velocity for height (Annenberg, 2014). Its first hill can affect the rest of the ride because
so many things depend on it. While making the first hill, it s important to think about the
maximum kinetic energy, because the energy presented here will show whether or not
Main Cause Of Childhood Obesity
Childhood Obesity Childhood obesity is a disorder where a child is considerably
overweight for his or her age and height. It has become more and more common in
recent years with more than 3 million cases in the United States a year. It can also lead
to a lot of childhood health problems some of which are diabetes, high blood pressure,
and high cholesterol. Understanding the causes of childhoodobesity will help to get it
under control and lower the number of cases per year instead of adding to it. Three
major causes of childhood obesity are poor parenting when it comes to food, kids
spending too much time indoor and not getting enough exercise, and schools making
junk food readily available to children. The first main cause of childhood obesity... Show

Schools are filled with vending machines stocked with junk food and soda. A lot of
parents make a conscious effort to get their kids to eat healthier and exercise, but
parents can t be with their kids at school where they are free to choose less healthy
alternatives. Public schools must take a big share of responsibility for the current
epidemic of childhood obesity (Schlafly). Along with vending machines filled with
less than healthy snacks, the lunches that are provided through the school are less than
nutritious. They serve a vegetable with the main lunch course, but most of the time
kids can opt out of getting it. What s the point of serving a vegetable when the kids
refuse to get it on their trays? Why not just make more nutritious lunches that taste
good? They are also cutting down on physical activity and sports. For some kids the
only exercise they get is through recess at school or through playing on the school
sports team. Play time is a very important part of learning, it s how kids learn to work
together, sharing, and teamwork. It also gives kids much needed exercise. Schools are
more concerned with standardized test scores than children getting the exercise they
need. Cutting recess short or taking it out of the curriculum altogether in favor of more
class time or more standardized tests is doing the children of today a great disservice.
Childhood obesity is a serious problem that effects the youth of today. Improving the
entire family s diet and exercise habits is one of the best ways to achieve a healthy
weight in the child. We need to teach our kids better eating habits, get them playing
outside and get them active, and parents need to get more involved with the vending
machines they are putting in schools and the food their children are being served; or
these unhealthy habits will continue into
The Human Body, A Biological Organization Of Physiological...
Introduction The human body, a biological organization of physiological cascades, is
surprisingly fragile but yet highly adaptable to withstand the varying challenges
encountered in the lifetime of an individual. From chronic illnesses to acute and rapidly
changing events, the integrated cooperation between human organ systems can
dramatically influence the potential outcomes of a patient. It is multiple deployments of
singular compensatory mechanisms in response to abnormal changes that provides this
infinite flexibility. While this continuous flexibility is illustrated in lifestyle diseases such
as hypertension and diabetes, its role in acute attention demanding events are remarkable.

Hemothoraxes, however, have also been documented to occur in cases of improper

Initialism Of The LGBT Community
LGBT, or GLBT, is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender
[3]. In use since the 1990s, the term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB, which was
used to replace the term gay in reference to the LGBT community beginning in the mid
to late 1980s [4]. Activists believed that the term gay community did not accurately
represent all those to whom it referred [5]. In 2016 GLAAD s Media Reference Guide
states that LGBTQ is the preferred initialism, being more inclusive of younger members
of the communities who embrace queer as a self descriptor [6].
Sexual orientation refers to a person s physical, romantic and/or emotional attraction
towards other people. Everyone has a sexual orientation, which is integral to a person s

Dad took me to my very first 49ers game at Kezar Stadium for an exhibition contest

temperature a cool 60 degrees.
We left our home at 11:30 a.m., and we walked down Lincoln Way towards the stadium.
Dad said that this was his weekly ritual, traveling the same way to every home game. The
narrow streets leading to Kezar were jammed with cars; many headed in the wrong
direction, while fans were coming by foot, by bus, by trolley, by bicycle, even on roller

For me, pro football was born August 24, 1952. Every 49er would now be playing in

We settled on wooden benches that was our seating at Kezar for the afternoon. The
benches allowed about sixteen inches per backside, and each row had thirty six seats.
From our vantage point, we sat directly under a giant scoreboard; the clock displayed
had a minute and a second hand; which noted the time left in a quarter.
Dad described: When the clock wound down to the final minute, with the two hands
converging, players and coaches always had difficulty determining how much time
remained. There would be a couple of guys inside watching the game through those little
slots with big numbered cards, inwhich they would manually change the score as the
situation changed.
Game programs cost 25 cents, and Dad was quick to buy one. Inside the program were
great photos of many 49er players in action poses. There was also a cartoon of a gold

in love with the zany little prospector. Dad commented that gold miner shooting his

Women in Movies Essay
Women in Movies Since the 1940 s, movies have predominately portrayed women as
sex symbols. Beginning in the 1940 s and continuing though the 1980 s, women did not
have major roles in movies. When they did have a leading role the women was either
pretreated as unintelligent and beautiful, or as conniving and beautiful: But she was
always beautiful. Before the 1990 s, men alone, wrote and directedall the movies, and the
movies were written for men. In comparison, movies of the 90 s are not only written
and directed by women, but leading roles are also held by older and unattractive
women. In this paper I will show the variations and growth of women s roles in movies

Ebonics In Schools
When discussing the large variety of languages heard throughout the U.S., we may hear
someone mention how their particular language is so much easier to say, pronounce and
read than another form of vocabulary. This is not uncommon. Due to the vastness of
cultural diversity within the country, it s hard to find a single city where there isn t at
least one minority group speaking their own native tongue. There is obviously nothing
ethically wrong with that, and those who are foreign to the cultures of the U.S. are
completely entitled to their lifestyle. As is the purpose behind the idea of being
American.Yet behind the veil of so called, equal economics, there is a huge difference
between the teaching a necessity, such as common english within the school community,
and something that won t become of high importance within an academic community. As
such, conducting Ebonics within American schools is not a feasible alternative to
standard language programs due to English being the main source of communication

Essay about Placing English Language Learners in Special...
When do English language learners need to be placed in special education?
In the United States, there has been an increase in in the number of children from
Spanish speaking backgrounds. The English Language Learners, commonly known as
ELL s, are being placed in Special Education without being properly tested for a learning
disability. However there are a large number of ELL s with learning disabilities in
elementary grades that truly have a learning disability and are over looked. Many school
districts have problems placing ELL s. As a result these students end up in special
education whether they have a learning disability or language impairment. Teachers are
also indecisive when dealing with ELL s. Most teachers recommend that ELL s ... Show

This is a good starting point to help teachers distinguish between a true learning disability
and learning English as a second language. If an ELL has a real learning disability then
early detection is essential. However, if an ELL does have a learning disorder and
does not receive special education for many years, because teachers were waiting for
he or she to learn the language, serious consequences could happen (Haung, Clarke,
Milczarski, Raby, 2011). Students could be grade levels behind their peers and could
suffer emotionally and socially in and out of school. Some ELLs may be able to speak
in their native language, but they may not be able to read and write in it. Finally,
teachers also have to pay very close attention to ELLs. Each ELL has had a different set
of experiences and ranges of educational exposure (Haung, Clarke, Milczarski, Raby,
2011). Teachers must push for appropriate professional development for teachers
working with ELLs. Teachers are more prepared to deliver appropriate assessment and
instructional modifications to ELLs with disabilities when they have been given
appropriate professional development (Haung, Clarke, Milczarski, Raby, 2011). There

shaped , cuneiform was recorded on clay tablets with pointed reed sticks. Archaeologists
have located many of these tablets at various archaeological sites in modern day Iraq.
Only highly educated Sumerian scribes could actually read and write cuneiform, creating
social disparities between the educated rich and the laboring poor. Other early forms of
writing, such as Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian languages, were based on
the principles of cuneiform. This early language provided the roots for other written
languages all around the world (Nardo 81 84).
Ziggurats were tall pyramid shaped buildings that served as templates for local
Mesopotamian gods. With first versions built in Sumer in the later 4th millennium B.C.
they evolved from a simple large platform to intricately designed, multi story buildings.
Ancient Mesopotamians saw the ziggurats as the connection between humanity and their
local god. Located in the center of Mesopotamian cities, they symbolized the power of
the gods and the priests who communicated with the gods ( Ziggurats 174 176). ... Show

  • 2. Symbolism Of Modernization In Kokoro Modernization Symbolized in Kokoro By James Schradle for IAH 204 In this modern era the gulf between modernized nations and nations who are not grows constantly, and if a country hopes to bridge the growing gap they must advance quickly. As with any other growth, growing pains are routine. Among others is the pain of the existence of generations whose world is changed completely over the course of a lifetime. In few places is this effect starker than in Japan s modern history, a country whose traditional ideals had to find a way to adapt modern westernized ideals to a historically traditional nation in a small amount of time. This era, the Meiji Restoration, put Japan through their growing pains and pushed the country to compete on the global level. Natsume Soseki offers a character whose relationships in the novel Kokoro are analogous to the progression and end of this Meiji era and how it effected the individual and their perceptions of change. Sensei is a character whose life and relationships offer a full range of understanding of the difficulties caused by the changing times. Though it is not apparent exactly when he was born, it s clear that it was between the dawn modern and the end of pre modern Japan. This era was exceedingly traditional, a time in Japan s history when cities were not tall and gray with streetcars stretching through them. A time when traditional social patterns prevailed and Confucian values still lingered. This can be seen in a quote

  • 4. More Than A Bag Of Tricks More than a Bag of Tricks: Using Creative Methodologies in Environmental Adult and Community Education explores alternate and to some educational institutions, unorthodox methods of educating using the art based activities that are interactive. This method focuses on method versus content. By using the art based activities, the educator encourages interaction with active learning, participation, uses the senses and skills used for learning, uses the learners life experiences, and at the end reflects on the whole process. The author, Dr. Jose Roberto Guevara discusses in detail these key elements to this learning methodologywhich seems to establish that art based activities are viable for adult students and community education, making learning more relevant and meaningful. There were several strengths in this article. It was very evident with the amount of international research that was prepared. First, the author believes and cites from several sources that one the strengths of these art based activities are that it provides the opportunity for adults to share their feelings and encourage greater interaction. By allowing this, it would create and tailor new ways of understanding the material to be discussed. This seems very logical as interaction is a key element to learning at all levels of education. Upon reflection the author was able to identify several principles that helped them move from limits of art based activities to a broader understanding using create
  • 5. Monkey King Research Paper All along, people have discussed monsters no mater they are from the East or the West, people are always curious about which faction is more powerful. If there must have a battle between Hulk and the Monkey King, for this epic battle, I believe the Monkey King will beat Hulk. A monster s combat capability is divided into five parts: strength, speed, scalability and intelligence. It is obvious that, the better fighting ability, the greater the possibility of winning for the monster. Comparison of the overall strength between Hulkand the monkey king, Hulk is very strong that he has the best physical strength and resistance of Marvel University, comparing with the monkey king, even though the Monkey King is also a strong monster but he is not as mighty as Hulk. However, the Monkey King is recognized as the smartest monster in the East who has an incredible speed, high Intelligence quotient of fighting and some magic arts.... And he also got an amazing self healing ability and resistance to mind control which means that the Monkey King cannot defeat Hulk by direct combat or try to control his mind. The fighting strategy for the monkey king is trying to make a quick battle to force Hulk to make a quick decision, since Hulk will getting more powerful when he is angry, it is obviously that long time fighting is beneficial for Hulk. Therefore, according to this analysis, the Monkey King can beat Hulk in short battle but they might be no clear winner in the long

I choose this country because I ve always thought that it d be a great place to visit and explore. I also didn t know much about the country before I did the research. The first thing that I researched was, the development of Greek civilization. The first Greeks were the Minoans and the Mycenaeans. They were the first to populate Greece. Since there wasn t much written or physical evidence of their civilization not much is know about them. But they do know that the Minoans occupied the island of Crete and the Mycenaeans were a group of people who migrated from India. They both conquered territory until they ran into one another. Feel free to include your own opinion, but be sure to justify it. Try to include an equal amount of information for the both sides. Use at least 500 words for your answer. For many years psychologists have been researching behaviour patterns from birth. This is where the Nature vs Nurture debate begins. Nativists believe that humans are born with various skills needed to survive, where as Empircist believe that humans acquire all or almost of all their behavioural traits from nurture . Some behaviours are innate, unlearned and instinctive. From the moment we are born there are instinctive motions that we do. An example of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were both encouraged to breast feed and having had daughters only a few months apart we shared the experience for a short period of time. My sister struggled, with my niece unable to latch onto her for several weeks. Feeding time soon became a very traumatic experience for both parties, however my daughter and I had a completely different experience. From the first feed we had success, it continued that way for many months. Later my sister learnt that her daughter had had colic , which is a condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or displays symptoms of distress frequently and for extended periods of time, without any discernible cause. With this information in mind, it left me wondering whether it in fact took my niece a longer period of time to learn how to breast feed, or if the natural motion was there but her colic condition prevented this from happening. Nurture, historically was referred to as the care given to children by their parents, with a mothers role being of particular importance. This term is now regarded as any environmental factor including external family, their peers, as well as extending influences such as media. BINNS (1965) demonstrated this experimentally. He studied babies less than 5 days old and found clear differences in a babies reactions to being suddenly disturbed. [ref1] (Ahrens 1954), stated that from the 2nd to the 7th month of

  • 10. Three Ways People Respond To Crisis How do people respond to crisis? There are many different ways people respond to crisis. We will examine three ways people respond to crisis: people hide from it, people ignore it, and people take action and stay calm. We will examine these three things with the help of the following passages: The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe; Scurvy at Sea from making History with Vitamin C by Penny Le Couteur and Jay Burreson. And finally Heroics Behind the Miracle on the Hudson written by Liana Stanley from The New American . As the occupants were escaping the sinking plane onto the wings and life rafts, Sullenberger retrieved the planes manifest, to be used to account for all the passengers. As we can see Captain Sullenberger took action, as the plane went down thanks to geese clogging the engines, he landed the plane on the Hudson River. Then he got everyone out of the plane before himself. He then grabbed the manifest which had all of the passenger s names and inspected the whole plane twice, to make sure no one was inside. Once they got off the wings of the plane and onto a boat he called role of all of the passengers. Captain Sullenberger was the last off of the plane, and he is a true hero. He managed everything responsively and calm. Finally, everyone reacts to crisis differently. Some people act scared and hide like price Prospero and his guests in the blue room. Others ignore it like some sailors. And very few act brave and calm like Captain Sullenberger did when he landed a plane on the Hudson River. Everyone can react differently in
  • 11. The Faerie Queene By Edmund Spenser Analysis This week s lecture is on The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. This lecture focuses on Edmund Spenser s life, the sources and influences that created Book I of The Faerie Queene , themes, devices, and meaning, purpose of Book I, and The Legend of the Knight of the Red Cross . Edmund Spenserwas born in 1552 to a modest family of modest means with a similar background such as Marlowe and Shakespeare. Spenser was a well educated man much like Marlowe. Spenser spent his first years of education at the Merchant Taylors School before attending university. Edmund Spenser would go on to receive a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts from Cambridge University. After university, Spenser would begin a career as a minor civil servant where he was a personal secretary to men of power and influence. His work would lead him to a few minor colonial government posts in Ireland. Afterwards, Edmund Spenser was bestowed a castle and 3,000 acres of land in Munster, Ireland. However, the castle was burned down into a rebel uprising. This was due to Spenser being disrespectful of the Irish and their religion. Edmund Spenser would then go on to be a poet. He was creative and adventurous when it came to his work. His greatest works are The Shepheardes Calendar and The Faerie Queene. Spenser became a great influence to several poets such as Milton and other romantics. In the end, Edmund Spenser became one of the greatest English poets of his time. The Faerie Queene is similar to works of Beowulf because of its Anglo Saxon epics. Also, Book I has a hint of classical and renaissance adventures. The Faerie Queene is a perfect combination of themes and motifs that was already introduced in other assignments. This makes Spenser s The Faerie Queene an epic poem. An epic poem is described as a long narrative in elevated style while presenting characters of high positions in adventures thus forming an organic whole through their relation to a central heroic figure and their development of events that play an important part to the history of a nation or race. The common characteristics of the main character is that the hero is played by a person of importance such who would have a historical or legendary significance. The
  • 12. Serebrier 9th Symphony A bit close to a decade ago, I confessed to a friend and fellow reviewer, Julian Grant, who graced these Amazon pages with his own informative and thought provoking reviews I took the pleasure in reading, of how dissatisfied I was in music programmes particularly in America s concert halls. I was ranting about how too little we were exposed to the great composers like Glazunov, Atterberg, Nielsen, Popov, Myaskovsky, and others and the need to rectify that in part by not overplaying the familiar Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Beethoven, et al. in these halls. But Julian Grant put the matter into perspective in reminding me that repeated listening is a complex ingredient in music appreciation. It is indeed amazing, now that I am thinking about it, of how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is indeed a despondent, anguish work, written (in 1910 originally for piano) at the time in Russian history where violence and uncertainties abounded. Its bleak language is very much akin to that of his Two Prelude Improvisations (1918) for pianoforte where conditions were even more precarious. Truth to tell, I cannot think of a more striking, penetrating orchestral realization of the work s profound sense of melancholy and dreariness than Gavriil Yudin s. And Serebrier brings these attributes movingly, with the menacing flutes, prominent in the middle allegro moderato section, that are perfectly caught. Come to think of it, it would ve been interesting if Glazunov s dramatic overture The Song of Destiny is included here, for it too shows the composer s changing musical persona under the conditions he was in. But be that as it may, this album, extremely well recorded and reverberant, caps what is now the most absorbing, revelatory, thought provoking, satisfyingly searching Glazunov symphony cycle to date (and imagine that admirable sense of preparation and knowledge of these symphonies in the performances of them that took place in just four days June 2 5, 2009). To understand why Macbeth could be shown as a tragic hero in shakespeare s work it s important to know what exactly a tragic hero is. A tragic hero is someone who shows greatness and royalty. All together someone who is good but fails in some way due to not being as perfect as they thought. From messing up and causing a big failure in their position of loyalty and leadership. Considering the attributes to be labeled as such a tragic heroi do believe Macbeth could be but truly isn t a tragic hero in the shakespeare s work. On the contrary, one might say that Macbeth is technically a tragic hero throughout the play because he meets all the standards and attributes that goes into being a tragic hero. One might point out that he comes from a noble background. Some might say he showed greatness and true loyalty and leadership for his people. • 14. Juarez Essay Juarez The movie Juarez, starring Paul Muni, Bette Davis, Brian Aherne and Claude Rains, has the perfect story line. There s action, love, violence and heartbreak, but most importantly, it brings attention to a piece of history that is rarely recognized: monarchs in Mexico. Louis Napoleon III of France, played by Claude Rains, saw the American Civil War as an opportunity to advance the French government. Louis wanted to establish French influence in Mexico, which he knew was against the Monroe Doctrine. He took advantage of the fact that America was in a weak state due to the war, and could therefore not intervene as per the Monroe Doctrine. Although Maximilian had many supporters, it was not enough to fight against the Mexican Republicans and Benito Juarez. On several occasions in the movie, Maximilian was asked to step down from his position as emperor and allow Mexico to go back to its former democracy. Juarez sent messengers as well as letters, and the final letter he sent mentioned a threat of Maximilian s blood spilling if he did not oblige. Maximilian would not step down and insisted he was doing what he was sent there to do. As the Civil War in the United States ended, the United States was finally able to help Mexico fight against the French. This led to a weakening of the French presence in Mexico and eventually Napoleon decided to pull out his troops. Napoleon was very persistent in his efforts of getting Maximilian to leave Mexico, and almost succeeded, but not before Carlotta could go back to France and beg him to change his mind, and instead support the monarchy. Napoleon would not budge on his decision and Maximilian gave in and wrote his letter of abdication. When Maximilian read his letter to his soldiers, they were extremely upset and General Mejia, who was an Indian and never showed emotion, cried. Colonel Lopez protested Maximilian s abdication and told him that if he left, it was surely a death sentence for all of them. Maximilian could not allow the men who had loved and supported him, to die for him after he had gone, so he decided to stay and stand

Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that Yann Martelmakes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message. First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in general. The Structure Of Roller Coasters The structure of roller coasters present many factors in physics and in engineering, engineers must contain an abundance of knowledge and research in order to assure the safety and the structure as a whole. AAPT needs entries at their annual roller coaster competition that include the use of only gravity to get from the beginning to the end of the track, so a structure will be built to present overall knowledge on kinetic and potential energy, as well as calculations. Relating to other fields, this project requires knowledge on kinetic and potential energy, especially while transitioning from one stage to the next while keeping the total mechanical energy the same at all points (Annenberg, 2014). The overall structure will be tested on multiple obstacles including a loop, funnel, humps, zig zags, and possibly a corkscrew. Not only will it be tested on these stages, but its safety and design should also be expected to receive an evaluation. The overall purpose of this project is to build and test a roller coaster that is built based off of knowledge and research while ensuring the fun and excitement while making sure the riders reach the end of the ride. • 35. Initialism Of The LGBT Community LGBT, or GLBT, is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender [3]. In use since the 1990s, the term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB, which was used to replace the term gay in reference to the LGBT community beginning in the mid to late 1980s [4]. Activists believed that the term gay community did not accurately represent all those to whom it referred [5]. In 2016 GLAAD s Media Reference Guide states that LGBTQ is the preferred initialism, being more inclusive of younger members of the communities who embrace queer as a self descriptor [6]. Sexual orientation refers to a person s physical, romantic and/or emotional attraction towards other people. Everyone has a sexual orientation, which is integral to a person s
  • 36. Personal Narrative-Football I was nine years old in 1952, and it was on a brisk August Sunday afternoon when my Dad took me to my very first 49ers game at Kezar Stadium for an exhibition contest against the Cardinals, from Chicago. As I remember the weather was overcast and the temperature a cool 60 degrees. We left our home at 11:30 a.m., and we walked down Lincoln Way towards the stadium. Dad said that this was his weekly ritual, traveling the same way to every home game. The narrow streets leading to Kezar were jammed with cars; many headed in the wrong direction, while fans were coming by foot, by bus, by trolley, by bicycle, even on roller skates to see the game. We we arrived at the stadium around noon time. There, we stood in a long line to buy two end zone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For me, pro football was born August 24, 1952. Every 49er would now be playing in front of me. Can you blame me for going gaga? We settled on wooden benches that was our seating at Kezar for the afternoon. The benches allowed about sixteen inches per backside, and each row had thirty six seats. From our vantage point, we sat directly under a giant scoreboard; the clock displayed had a minute and a second hand; which noted the time left in a quarter. Dad described: When the clock wound down to the final minute, with the two hands converging, players and coaches always had difficulty determining how much time remained. There would be a couple of guys inside watching the game through those little slots with big numbered cards, inwhich they would manually change the score as the situation changed. Game programs cost 25 cents, and Dad was quick to buy one. Inside the program were great photos of many 49er players in action poses. There was also a cartoon of a gold miner shooting off two pistols; one of which was aimed at his own head! I instantly fell in love with the zany little prospector. Dad commented that gold miner shooting his pistols was our official team

  • 39. Ebonics In Schools When discussing the large variety of languages heard throughout the U.S., we may hear someone mention how their particular language is so much easier to say, pronounce and read than another form of vocabulary. This is not uncommon. Due to the vastness of cultural diversity within the country, it s hard to find a single city where there isn t at least one minority group speaking their own native tongue. There is obviously nothing ethically wrong with that, and those who are foreign to the cultures of the U.S. are completely entitled to their lifestyle. As is the purpose behind the idea of being American.Yet behind the veil of so called, equal economics, there is a huge difference between the teaching a necessity, such as common english within the school community, and something that won t become of high importance within an academic community. As such, conducting Ebonics within American schools is not a feasible alternative to standard language programs due to English being the main source of communication throughout the business and academic world of the U.S. and could make it more difficult for foreign people trying to adjust to the... In the United States, there has been an increase in in the number of children from Spanish speaking backgrounds. The English Language Learners, commonly known as ELL s, are being placed in Special Education without being properly tested for a learning disability. However there are a large number of ELL s with learning disabilities in elementary grades that truly have a learning disability and are over looked. Many school districts have problems placing ELL s. As a result these students end up in special education whether they have a learning disability or language impairment. Teachers are also indecisive when dealing with ELL s. Most teachers recommend that ELL s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a good starting point to help teachers distinguish between a true learning disability and learning English as a second language. If an ELL has a real learning disability then early detection is essential. However, if an ELL does have a learning disorder and does not receive special education for many years, because teachers were waiting for he or she to learn the language, serious consequences could happen (Haung, Clarke, Milczarski, Raby, 2011). Students could be grade levels behind their peers and could suffer emotionally and socially in and out of school. Some ELLs may be able to speak in their native language, but they may not be able to read and write in it. Finally, teachers also have to pay very close attention to ELLs. Each ELL has had a different set of experiences and ranges of educational exposure (Haung, Clarke, Milczarski, Raby, 2011). Teachers must push for appropriate professional development for teachers working with ELLs. Teachers are more prepared to deliver appropriate assessment and instructional modifications to ELLs with disabilities when they have been given appropriate professional development (Haung, Clarke, Milczarski, Raby, 2011). There are many
  • 41. Cuneiform History Cuneiform was an early form of wedge shaped writing developed by ancient Sumerians around the late 4th millennium B.C. Named after the Latin word cuneus or wedge shaped , cuneiform was recorded on clay tablets with pointed reed sticks. Archaeologists have located many of these tablets at various archaeological sites in modern day Iraq. Only highly educated Sumerian scribes could actually read and write cuneiform, creating social disparities between the educated rich and the laboring poor. Other early forms of writing, such as Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian languages, were based on the principles of cuneiform. This early language provided the roots for other written languages all around the world (Nardo 81 84). Ziggurats were tall pyramid shaped buildings that served as templates for local Mesopotamian gods. With first versions built in Sumer in the later 4th millennium B.C. they evolved from a simple large platform to intricately designed, multi story buildings. Ancient Mesopotamians saw the ziggurats as the connection between humanity and their local god. Located in the center of Mesopotamian cities, they symbolized the power of the gods and the priests who communicated with the gods ( Ziggurats 174 176). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
