INTRODUCTION
• Gesture recognition is a topic in computer
science and language technology with the goal of
interpreting human gestures via
mathematical algorithms.
• Gestures can originate from any bodily motion or state
but commonly originate from the face or hand.
• Current focuses in the field include emotion
recognition from the face and hand gesture
recognition. Many approaches have been made using
cameras and computer vision algorithms to
interpret sign language.
The objective of this project is:
• To understand and explore using an
accelerometer and flex sensor.
• To make a Human Computer Interface /
Human Interface Device
• Having fun!
INPUT DEVICES
FLEX SENSOR
These types of bend sensors
are passive resistive devices
typically fabricated by
laying a strip of resistive ink on
a flexible plastic substrate,
shaped as a thin, flexible stripe
in lengths between 1” and 5”.
At rest (when laid flat), the bend sensor is
characterized by an intrinsic resistance. As
the sensor is bent, the resistive materials inside it are
pulled further apart.
Acccelerometer
An accelerometer is an electro
mechanical device that will
measure acceleration forces.
These forces may be static, like
the constant force of gravity pulling at your feet, or
they could be dynamic - caused by moving or
vibrating the accelerometer.
Application
• Gesture Glove Mouse
The glove is capable of
reading your wrist move
ments, translating that
into cursor movements.
Want to click on an icon
or menu option? Just use
your thumb and index
finger. It works wirelessly,
and has a maximum working
range of 10 meters.
Signal Gloves
• Signal Gloves are lighted traffic control gloves
that change color pattern based on hand
position Signal
Hand keyboard
With floating touch, you're essentially using your finger
like a mouse cursor on your phone's display, hovering
your pointer finger over the screen and pre-
highlighting links and icons before you actually touch
them
Future application
• Use it as an aid for the disabled
• Can provide an Immersive Virtual
Reality experience
• Use it to guide a quadcopter or a car.
