SEMINAR ON
HAND GESTURE RECOGNITION
ABSTRACT
Gesture Recognition topic is one of the futuristic topic in computer science and
language technology with the goal of human gesture.
Is one of the active research areas fields of human-computer interface due of its
fields flexibility of user friendliness.
To study through get an understand about concept of touch less interface of
technology.
Develop a system that can be used to convey information by person and
controlling device .
INTRODUCTION
Gesture Recognition enables humans to interface with the machine and interact
naturally without any mechanical devices.
Using the concept of gesture recognition , it is possible to point a finger at
the computer screen so that cursor will move accordingly.
Gesture Recognition can be conducted with techniques from computer
vision and image processing.
Gesture Recognition can be seen in a way for computers to understand
human body language ,thus building a rich bridge between machines and
humans with graphical user interface.
WHAT IS GESTURE
A gesture is a form of non-verbal communication in which visible bodily actions
communicate particular message either in place of speech or together and in
parallel with words.
Gesture includes movement of the hands , fingers of the body parts.
Gesture are an important aspect of human interaction ,both interpersonally and in
the context of man-machine interface.
EXAMPLE
Military air marshals use hand and body gesture to direct flight operations
aboard aircraft carriers.
WHAT IS GESTURE RECOGNITION ?
Interface with computers using gestures of the human body , typically
hand movements.
Gesture recognition is an important skill for robots that work closely
with humans.
Gesture recognition is especially valuable in applications involving
interaction human/robot for several reasons.
HAND GESTURE RECOGNITION
Hand gesture recognition acts as a highly adaptive interface between machines
and their users.
Hand gesture recognition technology allows operations of complex machines.
Using only a series of finger and movements, eliminating for physical contact
between operator and machine.
This is hand gesture recognition device used
Radar and RF sensor in these.
The devices used in the above HGR.
This glove can provide input to the
computer about the position and
rotation of hands.
The camera are used to capture
the physical data by bending
fingers.
It as two or more lenses it allow
binocular vision to capture
three-dimensional images.
Is the ability to recognize and
interpret movements of the
human body in order to interact
with and control a computer
system without direct physical
contact.
SIGNLANGUAGERECOGNITION
Certain types of gesture recognition software can transcribe the symbols
represented through sign language.
These measurements can be used to measure the distance of a
human hand or body parts from an object.
Sign language is manual communication commonly used by people
example like deaf .It is the primary language of many North Americans.
VIRTUAL CONTROLLERS
For a system where the act of finding or acquiring a physical controller could
require too much time, gesture can be used as an alternative control
mechanism.
Controlling secondary devices in a car, or controlling a television set are
examples of such usage.
ADVANTAGES
Easy to operate.
Single equipment = Multiple applications.
Replace mouse and keyword.
No physical contact with the computer.
DISADVANTAGES
Is the fact that they are self-revealing nor self
explanatory.
APPLICATIONS
Gesture can be used to control interactions for entertainment purposes such as
gaming to make the game players experience more interactive or immersive.
Military application to control robotics.
Remote control with the wave of hand of various devices is
possible.
CONCLUSION
The gesture controlled Robot System gives an alternative way of
controlling robots.
Is a natural way of controlling devices makes control of robots more efficient
and easy.
We have provided two techniques for giving gesture input, finger count
based gesture control and direction of hand palm based gesture control.
