George Gordon Lord Byron was a famous English poet born in 1788 in London to an aristocratic family. He attended Cambridge University and published several popular works. Byron traveled extensively for inspiration and joined the Greek forces in their war for independence against Turkey, where he eventually died of illness in 1824 at age 36. One of his most famous poems is "She Walks in Beauty" which describes a beautiful woman in romantic terms.

1788. He
belonged to
an old
aristocratic
family.

4. When Byron
was ten, his
great uncle
died and
Byron
inherited
the title of
Lord.
Byron was also an heir to the ancestral
estate , Newstead Abbey.

5. In 1805 he entered
Cambridge
University. In 1808
graduated from
Cambridge,
receiving A.M
(Master of Arts).
There is a
monument to a
famous student in
Cambridge.

6. After graduating from the University, Byron set out
on his journey. This travel served as an inspiration
for his poetry.

7. At the age of
21 by the right
of birth he
became a
member of the
House of
Lords.

8. He had a deep sense
of justice and hated
wars and opressions.
So he went to Greece
where he joined the
Greeks in their
struggle for liberty
against Turkey.

9. In Greece Byron fell ill and died in 1824. He
was thirty-six years old.

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes :
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy days denies.
One shade the more , one ray the less,
Had half impair’d the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tres ,
Or softly lightness o’er her face;

How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent.
