Clotrimazole. Candid 2% Vaginal Gel is
supplied in 30 gm tubes, in a box.
Each gm of Candid V contains 20 mg of
Clotrimazole in vanishing cream base.

Candid V Gel (Generic Clotrimazole 2%
Vaginal Cream) is used to treat a fungal
infection in the vagina and vulval area
(thrush). Thrush could cause the following
symptoms: vaginal itching, vaginal soreness,
a white odourless discharge from the vagina
(like cottage cheese) and pain during
intercourse

➢One applicatorful of Clotrimazole 2%
vaginal cream intravaginally once daily
(preferably at bedtime) for 3 consecutive
days.

Apply the missed dose of Candid V gel as
soon as you remember. Skip the missed
dose if it is almost time for your next
scheduled dose.
Do not use extra medication to make up the
missed dose.

Clotrimazole 2% Vaginal Gel (Candid V)
has to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Generic Clotrimazole 2% Vaginal Cream
(Candid V Gel ) is not for ophthalmic use.
Patients must seek medical advice if they
have frequent vaginal infections or if their
yeast infection returns in less than two
months.
As with all topical agents, skin
sensitization may result.
Use of Candid V gel should be
discontinued should such reactions
occur, and appropriate therapy instituted.

Treatment during the menstrual period should
not be performed. The treatment must be
finished before the onset of menstruation.
While sexual relation may be had during
treatment with Candid V gel, most couples wait
until treatment has finished as the partner could
become infected.
Concomitant medication with vaginal
Clotrimazole and oral Tacrolimus/Sirolimus
(immunosuppressant) might lead to increased
Tacrolimus/Sirolimus plasma levels.
Patients should thus be thoroughly monitored for
symptoms of Tacrolimus/Sirolimus overdosage.

Contraindications
Candid V Gel is contraindicated in
patients with a hypersensitivity to
Clotrimazole or any other component of
this medication.
This medicine should not be used in
the first trimester of pregnancy.

➢The following side effects have been
reported in connection with the use of
Clotrimazole 2% Vaginal Cream:
➢Immune system disorders: allergic reaction
(syncope, hypotension, dyspnea, urticaria)
➢Reproductive system disorders and breast
disorders: genital peeling, pruritus, edema,
erythema, stinging, blistering, discomfort,
general irritation of the skin and pelvic pain,
vaginal hemorrhage
➢Gastrointestinal disorder: abdominal pain

➢In case of an allergic reaction, stop
using Candid V Gel (Candid 2% Vaginal
Cream) contact your doctor immediately
or contact the Emergency Department of
your nearest hospital. A very serious
allergic reaction to Candid V gel is
unlikely, but seek immediate medical
attention in case it occurs.
➢Signs of an allergic reaction can include
rash, itching/swelling (especially of the
face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness,
trouble breathing.

15. Candid Vaginal Gel Overdose

Acute overdosage with topical application
of Clotrimazole 2% Vaginal Cream
(Candid V Gel) is unlikely and would not
be expected to lead to a life-threatening
situation.

Candid V Gel (Clotrimazole 2% Vaginal Cream)
has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category B.
Clotrimazole is very poorly absorbed following
dermal application or intravaginal administration to
humans. There are limited amounts of data from
the use of Clotrimazole in pregnant women. During
clinical trials, use of vaginally applied Clotrimazole
in pregnant women in their second and third
trimesters has not been associated with ill effects.
There are, however, no adequate and well-
controlled studies conducted in pregnant women
during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Animal studies with this medicine do not indicate direct
or indirect harmful effects with respect to reproductive
toxicity.
Although intravaginal application of Clotrimazole has
shown negligible absorption from both normal and
inflamed human vaginal mucosa, Candid V Gel should
not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy
unless the doctor considers it necessary to the welfare
of the patient.
The use of applicators may be undesirable in some
pregnant patients and digital insertion of the vaginal
tablets may be considered.
Available studies in animals have shown excretion of
Clotrimazole and metabolites in milk. Breastfeeding
should be discontinued during treatment with
Clotrimazole 2% vaginal cream (Candid V gel).
